Does being part of a lyctorhood qualify you for custody rights?
Yes I am determined to make all of the dynamics in this book as awkward as possible…to be fair I don’t really have to try that much
(Btw I haven’t read Nona yet so no spoilers in the comments plz)

Schizophrenia in HtN
Sometimes I wonder if The Body is real. Or if she is, because this is a fantasy story with ghosts and gods, I think she is supposed to be a parallel to a part of Harrow’s schizophrenia.
In this excellent ted talk, Eleanor Longden describes her experiences with schizophrenia. Most of the terror came from other people’s responses, including medical professionals. She says that the voices came at a time of immense stress, anxiety, and loneliness in college, and provided comfort. They were ambivalent, passively describing the things she did every day (ie. “She is opening the door”) and were an external representation of her internal needs that were going unaddressed. In this case, attention from someone, anyone.
Developing schizophrenia as a child is much more rare and seems to require extraordinary stress/trauma. Which, I think, Harrowhark fits. Born of a massacre, the weight of her civilization on her tiny shoulders, she—everyone, including the 200 children who died for her—needs her to be the perfect prodigy.
What did Harrowhark need, when she decided to open the Tomb and die? She needed a reason to live. Someone to love her, as Gideon had just brusquely reminded her that even Harrow’s mother did not.
And that is what her mind supplied. A woman so perfect Harrow decided to live, just in case she ever woke up. Harrowhark got what she needed, and that is all that matters.

mercy killed john cleanly. he did not die in pain, she did not disrespect his body; she killed him quickly and efficiently and that was it. john killed her brutally!! he mutilated her and covered someone else with her gore and only then killed her with a tap to the back of the head. he ripped a dead woman’s cloak from her body and touched her corpse with his bare foot to prove a point!!
all this to say: necromancy is disrespect for the dead under the guise of reverence, and john isn’t even bullshitting respect for the dead anymore in Thee most obvious way. god’s mercy is finite and he has none left; i suspect that his “i’m just a little guy :)” act is at its end and we are about to see more of the man who claims that guys like him don’t make mistakes.

"We're talking low prices."
It's Alecto, in her favorite t-shirt that she never got to wear from another life! I do hope there's still some Nona in her somewhere, but I also fully support her on her quest for revenge. Come on, Barbie-- let's go party.

Re: Harrowhark lying to Mercy about her age.
It has always stuck eith me that Mercy asked her age from the point of conception. And she was told to lie about that. There has to be a reason. Well, there is one obvious oddity about Harrow's conception that may require hiding.
I think Mercy was fully aware of the Ninth's plan to rejuvenate itself by killing 200 kids. I think her and Augustine may have planted that idea in her parents' heads as part of the Ninth-House-Tomb-Opening plan. Harrowhark has said she is the Perfect Necromancer. I've seen the theory float that a huge thanergy bloom may have been needed to open the tomb. The 200 children's deaths may have been intended to be that bloom, or may have been intended as a catalyst to create the freaky Thanergy Plus™ necrobaby!Harrow who could—and did—open the Tomb.
The question is: who is the Body that she needs Harrorhark to keep this info hidden?
