tall spooky horror guys who stab people while in an unconscious state, wear awesome turtlenecks, sometimes get called the first slashers, are played by queer actors, and often have their films overlooked even though they’re amazing

This part in emesis blue ⬇️ at the end
Is a reference to the cabinet of dr caligari, a VERY old German expressionist horror film ⬇️
Specifically the bit about Cesare the somnambulist who sleeps eternally in a coffin, sleepwalks and kills someone (sort of)
And I am going exceedingly insane about it. the IMPLICATIONS OF THIS.

The First Horror Movie
The Cabinet of Dr.Calligari
Director and German Expressionist Robert Wiene makes use of expressionist architecture and narrative through extreme distortion of both the physical set of the movie and it’s plot. The Cabinet of Dr.Calligari is famously recognized as the very first horror movie made in 1920 written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. The Story follows Cesar, a sleepwalker and his keeper, Dr.Calligari. Cesar is said to be all knowing and is later revealed as a murderer.

Okay, do you know who my favourite character in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari ACTUALLY is?
This one background doctor at the asylum.
Seriously, I’d love to know who plays him, because he’s not credited, but he gives it his ALL. Like
The way he enthusiastically leans over Francis’ shoulder here and uses his body language (shifting his weight and putting a hand on Francis’ back to allow him to get a closer look at the book)
The way he eyes Caligari with disgust as he creeps on Cesare, then CONTINUES TO GIVE HIM THE SIDE EYE as he’s shooed out
The way he stares up in complete despair and shock as he processes what fresh hell his boss has been up to this whole time (note the way his hand grips the chair)
I see you, random background doctor from over a hundred years ago. I see you and I appreciate you.
UPDATE- we found him! We found our guy!
Thanks @ask-buddy-lewek for looking into it!
