More Nik headcanons! This does NOT include spoilers for the new game! I'm not super happy with how this turned out, (it hasn't been edited and it's a little all over the place) but I needed to get something out so here it is! As always, these are just my own opinions so no worries if you disagree. Please don't hesitate to let me know if any of these are harmful in anyway. Have a wonderful day <3

• Takes great pride in how he looks and dresses. Invests in high quality clothes (not necessarily designer though) and hygiene products. Probably something do to with the control it allows him plus he's already got a rough job. Might as well be comfortable and look good if shits gonna hit the fan.

• I do think that gold chain has some sentimental value to him. Even sees it as a good luck charm. In my relationship hcs of him I love to see it as a gift from his SO. It is with my oc at least.

• This one's kind of... random and out of the way but he seems like he'd be good at chess, even though he rarely, if ever, plays it. Not good at checkers though. No clue why or how

• Knew Yegor when he (Yegor) first started dealing in arms and cigs, but it wasn't until after Yegor got on Zakhaevs bad side they really were able to get close. Nik probably helped him get away from Z. I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of the reason he's so loyal to Nik when he ends up joining Chimera. That, and Nik seems like the type of person to help with Yegors kids

• Speaking of Yegor, because of his experience dealing in arms he often helps Nik with that side of Chimera. Probably is the stand in leader while Nik's running around with Price

• Chimera is his pride and joy. He treats it very well and is incredibly careful about his deals and who he hires. Very few people outside the group know where the main base is. (TF141 and Laswell, for example)

• Sees the members of Chimera as his family and will die protecting them. Syd, Iskra, Krueger, Yegor, Farah, all of them. Knows their likes and dislikes by heart, helps them through hard times (and there's a lot given their jobs), jokes around with them, etc. etc.

(P.S. Used Yegor a lot here because he was in MW19, but I'll definitely include the others in later posts!)

"Welcome! I'm glad to see that we still have people interested in volunteering. We have 6 positions open this Riverseason, 3 at each of the base camps. After you fill out your paperwork I'll take you to meet the new Companions and we'll see who you connect with!"

every few years after a heavy rainy season the river swells and a lush, high, patch of forest grows around its fattened middle in a matter of days. during this time strange Creatures emerge to nest in the surrounding area, which is seemingly a safer place to rear young than the forest, and then migrate back when the river begins to lower in a few months. neither the creatures nor the Townsfolk know why the forest appears or what exactly is going on with the river but they learned long ago to (mostly) live in peace. 

while the forest makes most people uneasy, some are very eager (maybe too eager) to explore it. this includes some young Creatures who seem equally compelled to Enter. experience says that mixed teams have a better chance or survival (little guy with Powers + person with thumbs and camping supplies is a pretty good combo even if communication can be rough sometimes) and so that is how the scouting trips operate. scouts start at either upriver or downriver base camps just outside the forest and try to follow the river the entire way to avoid getting lost.

it is so easy to get lost.

most people lose sight of the other scouting teams about half a mile in even though they're all following the same river and going in the same direction. best case scenario is that you make new discoveries, map out a few things, and make it out the other side in way more time than it should really take to walk to the other side. worst case is you can't find your way out before the river starts to dry up and you hope the rain is heavy next year. 

pictured above are the little Companions ready to hike in with someone this season. you will only learn their names if you connect with one, but in loose power typing terms we've got:

a prophesy type (omens good and bad. tea leaves, smoke, tiny bones)

a wander type (never settled and never has to be. a shifter of sorts)

a fungal type (more than it seems. eager for friendship)

a celestial type (looking into the void. navigating by starlight)

a dirt type (grounded and persistent. a terror to terrors)

and a sylph type (the air in your lungs. the invisible belief)

which Companion will you choose? what name comes to you when they choose you back?

Some general Nikolai headcanons because why not! I've got so many more, but I'll try to keep this post short. As always, please let me know if anything posted is harmful, and have a wonderful day!

Can operate many different types of vehicles and holds licenses for many in areas he frequents or that are strategic or significant to any causes he is a part of. No, they are not obtained legally (that'd be too much time and work)

I don't know enough about them to say which one specifically tops them all, but helicopters are his favorite vehicle. His helis are his babies, and he treats them well.

I can't see him liking vodka. He'll drink it if it benefits him (i.e., gaining approval from potential clients, informants, etc.), but beyond that, he avoids it.

Speaking of alcohol, he keeps a high tolerance. Not because he's Russian (though, from what I understand, the drinking culture there may contribute to that), but because it's beneficial to him. It's not uncommon for people to get others drunk, so it's easier to attack or manipulate them. Since it's not always possible to skip a drink, tolerance is the next best thing.

Hairy. I don't have anything else to add to that

Does not have a 6 pack or hard pecs or anything like that. Im sorry, but it's just not something I can see, especially since I learned it's often obtained through malnutrion, dehydration, or like... steriods. Also, I love fat. I want a man with a bit of a belly and soft pecs.

Trains a lot; even if he usually isn't involved directly in a fight, that can quickly change. Plus, it helps him destress.

Gives incredible hugs. Idk what else to add. He just knows how to read people well enough to adjust to their hug preferences. Only gives em out to people he truly cares about, though.

Absolutely a terrifying force; you do not want to be his enemy. The ends often justify the means to him and that often leads to morally fucked up situations. I mean, he literally abducted a man's wife and child. He has no qualms about occasionally being the bad guy and doesn't lose much, if any, sleep over it.(This is pretty much canon, but I still wanted to add my own thoughts to it)

They do not realize that people think they have civilian identities. Or that people assume human when they tell them they have no powers. They are literally their armor and vigilante outfits, that is what they are, and they aren’t trying? To hide it?

Legacy growls deeply, tugging you close and allowing you to bury your mitten-ish hands in his soft fluff, gently poking the tip of your nose with his claws

your absolute favorite place to be is on Foul Legacy's shoulder, his hand holding you steady as you lean against his head. now you're the tallest Melusine ever! speaking of which, there's constant joking that Legacy is just a really big, armored Melusine- look, he even has two horns and a pair of glittery wings! your own little wings are more angelic, and you can't fly with them, but you can both wiggle your wings in excitement. your more adventurous siblings have taken to attempting to scale Foul Legacy's tall body, dangling off his outstretched arms as you help pull them up- with both of his arms out to the sides, Foul Legacy can carry no less than six Melusine!

So, a changeling is sort of like a p-zombie?

(For the unaware, “p-zombie” stands for “philosophical zombie”. It’s a thought experiment in philosophy that describes a being that’s outwardly identical to a human, but does not have a consciousness; that is, a p-zombie does not think whatsoever, although it looks like it thinks to an outsider observer. There’s a whole wikipedia article on it that explains the concept better than I can!)

They don't exactly think, as in "I dont want this" "I like that". But, Changelings do have a form of "Consciousness". It's just that their consciousness is more like a series of commands or tasks than actual formulated thoughts.

Timmy's Changeling has a very advanced "consciousness". It can predict future actions and reroute its tasks to pick only the best options for its situation.

We fill their heads with static to ensure that the Changeling does not form thoughts about anything. Thoughts leads to opinions, and opinions leads to incorrect actions. A proper Changeling should have more static in their mind than a TV screen on a defunct channel!
