Great Comet Set Design

 I just watched a video about how Mimi Lien designed the lobby of Imperial Theatre for the Gret Comet and i’m so freaking impressed!! I can’t believe i’ve never seen anything about it before because it’s so well thought out

Basically it’s designed to replicate the feel of a bunker, all gray walls and fluorescent lights and posters about the war.  Because it’s supposed to represent the line in the Prologue of “there’s a war going on out there” and you walk through the lobby and halls to get to your seat, you really get a sense of the bleak war.

Then you get into the theatre and it’s luxuriously red and gold with fancy lights shining everywhere and wooden flooring and chandeliers. The war bunker is completely forgotten as you step into the embodiment of “chandeliers and caviar, the war can’t touch us here”

And i think it’s such an incredibly brilliant idea to use even the lobby as a set design to prepare the audience for the show, especially the way Mimi Lien did, so I really hope she wins the Tony for best set design!!

i think ben platt should get a tony for his Amazing performance as evan and the set was pretty cool i guess (but not better than gret comet Obviously nothings better than great comet rn) but otherwise...ill be pissed
