Watching The Rings of Power, and you actually start to understand why Bilbo (and the hobbits) are so anti-adventure. Compared to other races, they were nomadic, very small beings going through unimaginable horrors with little way to defend themselves.
Like their lives sucked. They fought for their peace in the Shire, and the idea of going on an adventure and ruining that peace is so terrible.
Like I don't blame them. I don't blame Bilbo for not wanting to go on an adventure

So Hobbits are rodents, right? That’s what we’re going with?
But there’s three types of Hobbits, so let’s have fun with that
So there’s the Harfoot, which is like, the common hobbit. These boys are mice, with long fluffy ears, scruffy hair, fur covering their bodies, long tails with a little tuft at the end, and a small snout with whiskers.
Then there’s the Stoor’s which is what Gollum was. These boys are otters, with longer bodies, more claw like hands, thicker and flatter tails, more water proof fur, and webbed feet.
Then there’s the Fallohides. These boys are squirrels, clawed hands made for climbing, smaller feet but more flexible, longer bushier tail, curvier body, and sharper reflexes.
The other races can barely tell the differences between the three boys, but they will take offense if you mix them up

I made the mistake of searching "rings of power" on Tumblr because I wanted to find some cool gif/artsy stuff but I regret it so much.
Wtf is going on? All I found is hate and people having huge meltdowns and being spiteful and I can't believe it.
I understand that not everyone likes it, as I understand that people want to share their opinion but there is a different between writing
"it's not my cup of tea, and here's my reasons, but if you want to keep watching you do you!"
And
"everything is shit, and the people of colour are disgusting revisionism and I don't want it, and here's why everything sucks and you should not watch it. We have to boycott it and ruin it for those who like it. And don't forget to spread the hate to those who worked on it".
I mean when did this fandom abandon reason for madness? I feel so freaking sad right now it's unbelievable.

Those of you who are fans of LOTR and not fans of Rings of Power might enjoy this article on the flaws in the latter's world-building.
The blog post is by the historian Bret Devereaux, whose specialism is the history of ancient Rome.
@sindar-princeling I suspect you might enjoy this.
