I was thinking about how we don't actually know how Pyrrha died. Just that by her own telling, she "was killed," and that she was the first cavalier to die outside Cristabel and Alfred's suicide pact.

Before Nona came out, I suspected Gideon the First must have killed her, probably with her consent. That seems unlikely to me now, with everything we've learned about them in Nona.

Also before Nona came out, I came to the conclusion that the lyctors demanded John kill Alecto following a "great attack" on Canaan House and the revelation of what a Resurrection Beast is. Based on Mercymorn's assumption that Alecto was a freak who would attack her on sight, I also highly suspected that Alecto either participated in or perpetrated the attack on Canaan House, thus proving herself beyond a shadow of a doubt to be untamed and dangerous in a way that not even John could talk his way out of.

I just recently noticed a detail in Nona the Ninth that might slot all this together like puzzle pieces:

Pyrrha has seen something very like Nona's tantrums before, and that memory scares her. Enough that she avoids even thinking about it.

I think Alecto may have killed Pyrrha.

It must have been kind of confusing being fandom-in-laws with tlt when Nona came out. Yeah yeah tlt that's the one with bones and goth knights and dead lesbian space juggalos in sunglasses. and apparently a girl and her fluffy white dog??? going on a walk with her happy family??? Okay??

I just recently saw a fanart of Harrowhark as a child in her full necromancer garb and was thinking about her little ribcage she wears. Gideon had mentioned that she basically never saw Harrow without facepaint until Canaan house, so I believe it's safe to assume that Harrow canonically was in her full necromantic sacramental garb as a child too. She canonically wears bones. Real bones. Bones of real people. Most likely real ninth house citizens.

Did Harrow ever know the people whose bones she wore? Who decides whose bodies are ethically okay for necromantic use? When she was a child whose bones was she wearing? Whose little bones would fit her tiny self? Perhaps it was one of the children who was sacrificed for her. I wonder how that would make her feel. How would the heir of the ninth, who only ever had one friend, feel wearing the bones of someone who could have been another? I can just imagine her parents solemnly telling her what an honor that is. To be wearing the bones of the ninth house. To be one with the ninth house. To have been made the ninth house's saint by the very blood and bones that were its people. And told to wear it with pride.

But, who knows? Maybe Harrow found a piece of bone from some old deceased person and grew it around herself in a ribcage form. But I wouldn't put it above Harrows parents and great aunts to make her partake in wearing the childrens bones. These are the same people who made her pray for 45 minutes straight. With one of the prayers being, and I quote, "The Tomb I will serve till the end of my days, and then see me buried in two hundred graves." The same people who tied her a noose and instructed her to kill herself for her religious transgressions.

Anyhow, I feel like I'm eating nails when I think about this.
