An Interlude in the Desert (Find me if you can!)
So my brain was nice enough to pop out a new outfit idea for Khepri and I wanted to record it before I forgot. Disclaimer that I am in no way a writer, but it does share a bit of what Khepri has been up to since Endwalker.
Khepri breathed in the dry dusty air around him. It was such a change from the wet humidity of the island but refreshing in it's own way. He wiped at his sweaty brow, heavy fringe having gotten longer. His hair had some wave to it now, bits and pieces braided with bright threads (Raha's doing). He had been loathe to leave their quiet island paradise but the time had come. At first it had just been Raha, Nai and him but over time their friends had trickled in. While friends were always welcome, their various requests for assistance were not, not to mention the messengers that had come with the same. He knew he was still the Warrior of Light in his own way and he had a calling to serve the greater good…but he deserved a break. So he'd left the island in the care of the mammets and headed out towards Rhalgr's Reach. It was time he paid an old miqo'te friend there a visit, not to mention Lyse and M'naago. He just so happened to be taking the long way on foot from Ul'dah. Carby had quite loudly protested this the day before, happy to take a perfectly good aetheryte. Khepri had resisted, telling his vulpine companion it had grown spoiled over their months on the island. Thus Carby was ignoring him somewhere in the aetherial rift while Cheeto happily trotted behind him. Cheeto being a chocobo and all had missed the wide open expanses as much as his caretaker.
Khepri was thankful for the coverage of his newly acquired cloak to block out the brightness of the sun. He'd asked a favor from Tataru a while back for new traveling clothes. The ones he'd worn at the edge of the Universe now brought back too many memories. Too many almost losses. She'd delivered tenfold as always, it was like she'd reached into his own head.
The cloak was an off white with a large hood, shades lighter than his own horn and scales. It was embroidered with golden suns and moons along the edge and cut into bell sleeves gathered at the wrist. Circular cutouts along his shoulders and arms provided ventilation over a crop top of the same off white. Around his neck sat the same simple necklace of moons and stars in silver and gold his mother had given to him all those years ago. Passed down in his family to honor Azim and Nhaama. Around his hips sat a heavy brown leather belt with pockets for a series of vials on his left hip and his grimoire strapped to his right.
Below that was a pair of white shorts covered by a skirt over it that hit half way down his thigh. A slit inched up the left hand side to reveal the shorts beneath and allow for easy movement. Brown lace up leather sandals completed the look, a surprising sidestep from his former heeled boots. Tataru had taken his concerns into mind when he'd said breathable and he appreciated it. Ahhh and not to forget a twisted wooden staff that doubled as both help on rockier terrain and to hit any enemies with if they came too close. The ensemble felt like a good start to a new chapter.
He continued onward at a steady pace, he could tell it was only a few hours from sunset. When the messengers inevitably found him at the Reach he would probably visit the First. Ha! He grinned to himself, see if they could follow him across shards. He thought not.

Pomegranate Seeds 3
well we got some BIG projecting going on here. if yall didn’t know i had mommy issues before, you sure as fuck do now 😂😂😂
Warnings: insecure Jask, allusions to verbally abusive/manipulative parents, lmao rebellious jask, good ole miscommunication between jask and geralt - but solved quickly, lol swearing
___________
Letter after letter reached Jaskier in the underworld, and time after time, he destroyed them. He didn’t tell Geralt, telling himself it was because the ruler of the underworld had more important things to deal with. He didn’t want to admit he was scared Geralt would send him packing.
Eventually, Demeter resorted to threats. Threats of famine that she followed through on. She underestimated just how like her Jaskier was, though. He didn’t dignify her tantrum with a response.
When she sent messengers, he started to worry.
He told Charon to alert him, not Geralt, if another god or goddess came to visit, even one of the more senior demigods. He didn’t want to take any chances. Geralt didn’t need to know anyway.
But Geralt noticed something was off.
Jaskier would say he was tired, or he couldn’t perfect a specific verse of the song he was writing. Usually it worked, but it was only ever a salve, never a cure, for Geralt’s suspicions.
“What’s wrong, love?” Geralt cradled him in his lap, lounging in the now lavish courtyard under the pomegranate tree Jaskier had brought back from the brink of death.
Jaskier nuzzled closer, “I’m just ti-”
“No, I asked you what’s wrong,” Geralt insisted, giving him a gentle squeeze and placing a kiss to the top of his head.
“It’s nothing,” Jaskier lied, hoping the sigh he accidentally let slip didn’t register, “You don’t need to worry about it.”
Geralt hummed and went quiet for a moment before he curled a bit tighter around Jaskier and whispered, “Do you want to go home?”
Jaskier scrambled up, sputtering and terrified, “Did she get to you?!” When Geralt just looked at him with an unreadable expression he started to panic, feeling hot tears welling up in his eyes as he did his best to keep his voice steady, “Don’t send me back. Please, Geralt. Anything but that.”
“I’d never,” Geralt soothed, standing and hesitantly reaching for Jaskier’s hand.
He eyed the offer warily, sniffing and trying to calm himself, “Then why would you say that?”
“I thought you were unhappy. You’ve been… acting strange.”
Jaskier ignored Geralt’s outstretched hand, choosing to wrap himself around Geralt’s torso and bury his face in the crook of his neck, “I’m sorry. I’ll be better tomorrow. It’s just, uhm. I’m just a bit off.”
Geralt instinctively held him tighter, “Jaskier I want you to be happy, not ‘better’.”
Jaskier just hummed, swallowing back his unshed tears.
“Who were you talking about?”
For a moment, Jaskier had to remind himself to breathe before he could respond, “Hm?”
“You asked if someone had ‘gotten’ to me?”
Tears spilled regardless of Jaskier’s best efforts, “My mother. She wants me to come back. She’s been sending letters and messengers.”
“And you don’t want to?”
“Never,” Jaskier insisted, “This is the most freedom I've ever had. I don’t have to hide in the treetops to feel any sense of calm, I get to make decisions, I make things grow when I want, for whom I want.”
Geralt ran a hand over his hair, resting it at the base of his skull and brushing his thumb through the little hairs behind his ear, “You don’t ever have to leave. I love you. I want you here.”
“I love you too,” Jaskier whispered, “I’m just scared.”
Geralt gently pushed him back just enough to look into his eyes, “There’s a way you could stay forever…”
The hopeful glint in his eyes told Geralt everything he needed to know, so he continued, “If you eat even one pomegranate seed you will be tethered to the underworld. You can stay and do whatever pleases you. But it is irreversible. One bite and your fate is forever tied to this place.”
Jaskier thought about it for a moment, searching Geralt’s eyes for something, anything, that could make the decision for him, “I could never leave?”
“Only if the both of us willed it and only for a short time,” Geralt explained, tenderly wiping his tears away, “I could never keep you here if you were miserable. Try as I might to think about anything else, your happiness consumes much of my thoughts.”
“Hmm,” Jaskier leaned into Geralt’s touch, turning his head to kiss his palm, “Do I need to decide right now?”
Geralt kissed his forehead, “Of course not. It’s just an option.”
“Okay,” Jaskier sighed, curling his fingers around the robes cascading down Geralt’s back, “I like it - the idea. I just… I want to take my time?”
“Absolutely.”
-
Time wasn’t something Jaskier was allowed apparently.
The two of them were just climbing out of a lovely bath when a chattering skeleton announced the arrival of a visitor.
Demeter stood in the throne room with her back turned to them, examining one of the glowing diamonds when they entered. She looked so small, almost insignificant. Her hair was in an intricate braid, she wore a cream toga, adorned with gold that made her look more like a savior than the horror she really was.
Jaskier gripped Geralt’s hand tightly and pulled them to a halt, knowing very well Demeter wanted him to speak first. It was a stand off he was familiar with. If he spoke first she had the upper hand, hearing his tone and picking apart his words. She always knew how particular her son was with words.
“Julek. It’s time to go.”
Her voice echoed off the stone walls as she calmly stated her order, not even bothering to turn and look at him.
Jaskier took a deep breath and squeezed Geralt’s hand, not looking at him for fear of crying, “No.”
“Playtime is over. You have duties. The humans did not prepare for you to leave. They’re calling it winter,” she snorted as if the idea was as ridiculous as standing on your head in a temple.
Jaskier grit his teeth, feeling the rage bubble up in his chest, “I don’t care.”
“Clearly,” She rounded on him with a condescending look of disappointment, “It doesn’t matter if you care. They’re still your responsibility.”
Jaskier took a step forward, “A responsibility you assigned me. You fixed it before, fix it now.”
“I cant.”
“Tough shit.”
Jaskier wasn’t sure how any of his words were coming out without sounding absolutely hysterical, but he was glad for it. He glared at her, daring her to try again while internally he was scrambling for a plan.
“For this particular magic, I need you. Seasons will take more work than a year round harvest, but you have set them off nonetheless.” Demeter’s voice was softer than usual, though Jaskier didn’t miss the incincerity of her words. She’d raised him. He knew her, probably better than she knew herself for all the introspection she refused to take part in, and he knew she was playing games.
"Oh? Are you no longer capable?" Jaskier laughed bitterly as he turned to walk toward the courtyard, "The great goddess of plenty and harvest can't sustain what she's built? Unfortunate. I am good at what I do here. I am so good at caring about the souls that end up in our audience-"
"Our!?"
"DONT interrupt me," Jaskier shouted, turned and stomped his heel into the ground making vines burst forth from the marble beneath them, wrapping around Demeter's waist and mouth, "I have also found I'm rather adept at torture when necessary. I love it down here! I love being able to right wrongs and show the righteous to Elysium. I love having a purpose to my actions, not just being someone's unappreciated trophy! And I love Geralt. He treats me so well and loves me so sweetly and wants only to make me happy. Nothing about your 'seasons' and 'bringing life' interests me in the slightest, Demeter. Because that's not who I am. I am rage and justice and I am to be feared, not manipulated. Take your failing crops and go." Jaskier waved a hand dismissively and the vines disappeared back into the ground.
Without looking back, he strode toward the pomegranate tree in the center of the garden, plucking a fruit from the nearest branch and turning to glare at his mother. Geralt was hot on his heels, glancing between the two but keeping quiet. Jaskier had told him he wanted to confront her himself, without her thinking he’d been told what to say. So Geralt stood by and seethed.
Jaskier pulled a knife from the holster in Geralt’s belt and sliced a nice section out of the pomegranate.
“Don’t you dare.” Demeter snarled, standing at the edge of the courtyard.
Jaskier smirked and peeled the white fiber from the blood red seeds with a casual sigh, “I don’t think your opinion matters much here.”
Jaskier flipped the knife in the air and caught it by the blade, maintaining eye contact with Demeter as he handed it back to Geralt.
“Are you sure?” Geralt’s voice was just a whisper as he took the blade.
Jaskier picked a particularly dark red seed from it’s home and turned to look at him, “There’s absolutely nowhere else I’d rather be, my love.”
With that he popped the seed in his mouth.

Say My Name and I’ll Be There:  4.1
Author’s Note:  So I’m thinking of updating every other day or every two days? I tend to write compulsively and neglect my schoolwork lol.  Juggling this with work and school will be difficult if I post every day (I can’t help it though, I love updating every day!) So yeah.  Also if anyone has chapter filler ideas or prompts they want me to write out, message me or comment below! Back to the story!
..........................................
Xiao had just cleared a band of hilichurls when he came across the small stuffed bunny lying on the ground.  It was tattered and worn, but still held its original color.  He picked it up and dusted it off, glancing in the direction of the crying girl at the top of the hill. She had been crying over her stolen toy so Xiao took it upon himself to return it to her.
He may or may not have destroyed a portion of the rice crop in doing so...but no matter! The girl was happy now.
"Thank you Mr. Adeptus!"  She gave him a toothy grin and hugged her bunny close.  "Thank you so much!"
"It was no trouble."  Xiao didn't return her smile and began to walk across the bridge that oversaw most of the rice crop.  What was it with mortal children and material possessions? Was it like him with his yaksha mask and spear?
"Mr. Adeptus sir, would you like something to eat?"
"Mortal food is not to my liking."  He continued to walk away despite hearing her disappointed 'oh.'  His eyes landed at the top of another hill, where the hall of Quince Village sat.  I should check on her Granny while I'm here.
"Welcome to my humble home!  How may I--" Granny's eyes widened significantly when she caught sight of Xiao.  "Oh my, it's been some time.  Is she alright? Has something happened?"
"Mm."  Xiao flicked his gaze around the building before he closed the distance.  "She's fine.  The Fatui will pose a significant problem.  They may come to you first."
"Oh," Granny rolled her eyes.  "Don't worry about me then, dear.  Just make sure she's safe.  I can handle the Fatui's interrogations just fine."
"There's no telling what tactics they may use or what they're after.  Make no mention of my interactions with you, nor how you found her.  It is for your own safety."
"Consider it done!  Now, would you like a cup of tea?"
...........................
"Wait, what?" You and the rest of the adventure team had returned to Quince Village on your request.
Well...when you say 'the rest of the adventure team,' it was just you and Aether.  Diluc and Bennett had returned to Mondstat on your way here from Liyue Harbor.  After your little confrontation with Childe, he claimed there was unfinished business with the Fatui in the harbor and had to remain there.  You didn't believe it one bit.
"Yeah! Do you think he doesn't like me?" Lil Luo's shoulders drooped in sadness.  She held her tattered bunny tight against her chest.
"'An adeptus that doesn't smile," Aether met your eyes.  "That sounds like Xiao."
"W-well, when was he here?  When did this happen?"  You had to refrain from shaking her little shoulders for answers.
"U-um, maybe a week ago?  I saw him a couple more times after that, but he never smiled back at me..."
"Xiao," you whispered to yourself and scanned the fields for any sign of him.  "When was the last time you saw him?"
"Four days ago, I think."
"You want to look for him, don't you?"  Aether raised a smug brow.
"Can we?"  You pleaded.
"We're here on your request.  Might as well stay a bit, right?"
"Thank you so much!"
"You can just repay us with food," Paimon popped up and was practically drooling at her own imagination.  Aether nodded in agreement.
The three of you--correction, two of you-- climbed the hill to the village center while Paimon floated carefree alongside Aether.  The second you reached the top, you were greeted with a disturbing sight.
Fatui agents.
"W-what the hell?"  You instinctually grabbed the hilt of your sword, as did Aether.  "What are Fatui doing in Quince Village?"
"Paimon has no idea.  Let's get them!"
"Doesn't your Granny live here?" Aether sent you a worried look.
"Yes, she does."  You marched right up to the nearest agent and puffed out your chest.  "Excuse me, what's going on here? Why are you morons moving my Granny's stuff out of the house?"
"Who're you callin' morons?" The agent scoffed through his mask.  "Shouldn't you be in school or somethin'?  Scram.  Get out of here.  Damn kids."
"This is MY house," your blade pressed against his neck in a flash.  "Get off of my property."  Aether followed your lead and drew his weapon too.
"I'm afraid it isn't your home anymore," an all-too familiar deep voice flowed through the air. Zhongli shot the agent a look that caused him to leave the situation to the consultant.  "I sincerely apologize for not being in touch recently.  The funeral parlor has been quite backed-up lately thanks to Hu Tao's mismanagement."
"What are you doing here?" Paimon asked the question that was on all your minds.  "The funeral parlor is so far south of here."
"The Wangsheng Funeral Parlor serves all of Liyue," answered Zhongli.  His piercing eyes turned their attention to you and Aether.  "As you know, the parlor is partnered with the Fatui."
"And? That doesn't explain why you're here," you snarled.  Don't get anything mixed up; you were happy to see him.  But the Fatui at your house? Not as much.
Zhongli released a short sigh and closed his eyes.  "We received a call from one of your neighbors.  It appears your grandmother died last night of a heart attack."
Something hard panged within your chest and it was suddenly difficult to breath.  "That's not...possible."
"Hey," Aether wrapped an arm around your shoulders as the world seemed to sway beneath your feet.  He slowly led you to the ground.
"That's horrible," Paimon muttered.  "Was it...painful?"
"Paimon!" Aether hushed.
"No.  It was rather quick.  She had not suffered long."  Zhongli knelt so that he was eye level with you.  "I had sent someone to meet up with you in Dihua Marsh, but it appears as though the messenger never met you.  My apologies for the oversight, dear friend."
"Then," you gulped, "why are the Fatui here?"
"Your grandmother had signed the house over to them a day or so before she passed."
"What? Why would she do that? She loves this house!"  Your tears dried before they had the chance to fall.  Your fists tightened as you struggled to determine who the enemy was.  Was it Zhongli?  He was technically Fatui if he worked with them.  Xiao could have been wrong about him.  "Who's in charge here?"
Zhongli almost appeared hesitant to answer.  Xiao managed to reach the grandmother in time, but it appears she still had to make some sort of arrangement to guarantee everyone's safety.  To think that Childe had somehow known to come here--
"Tch."  You stood up and brushed past Aether, heading directly toward the Fatui agent that had the audacity to tell a twenty year old to go back to school.  "Hey, dumbass!"  You gripped the collar of his coat and yanked him close.  "Tell me who's in charge here."
"Heh, want to fight your way out of a contract, eh?  Don't you worship the God of Contracts?  You're not gettin' your stupid house back."
"Tell me who sent you."
"A certain Harbinger," the agent taunted.
"Give me the name!"  You back-handed the masked agent hard enough to hurt him and split your knuckles wide open.  The blood splattered onto the wooden floor and soaked into his jacket.
"Hey, wait!"  Aether grabbed your shoulder.  Zhongli watched him do so.
"You're in luck, sweetheart.  You'd give quite the show badmouthing Childe."
"Wha--"  You stumbled backwards and knocked into Aether.  The two of you shared a look of shock, concern, and betrayal.  "This is all under Childe's jurisdiction?"
"Uh-huh," the agent lifted his mask slightly and wiped at his busted lip.  "He should be on his way back to Liyue Harbor by now, if you wanna try and take it up with him.  But I'm tellin' you he ain't gonna budge."
..........................
You stood alone in the rain.  Zhongli had arranged for a proper funeral and had refused to charge you for the provided services.  He had even managed to retrieve one of Granny's necklaces from the Fatui's grasp, and gave it to you.  He and Aether were alongside you, what...twenty minutes ago?  They decided to leave you alone in front of the new gravestone to grieve.  The funeral was simple, per your request to hold true to Granny's wishes.  The entire village had grieved with you.
"I'm sorry I came too late for a visit, Granny." The words came out robotic and emotionless.  The look on your face was blank.  You placed a small bouquet of glaze lilies on top of the stone; Zhongli had you sing to them before picking them.  "Things got busy, and Childe...well, I'm sure you met him, didn't you?"  You let out a dry bitter laugh that blended with the sound of raindrops.  "I love you.  Thank you for taking care of me even if I was a brat sometimes."
Could it be that you had been the cause of her death just like you had caused your parents'?  Just how much blood was on your hands?
You felt nothing yet everything at the same time.  Your eyes were dry.  After the initial shock, you hadn't shed a single tear.  Thus was your usual reaction to death; you were usually at peace with the idea of it.  If it was their time, it was their time.  But you were not convinced her death was caused by her heart.
Childe.  Could he have resorted to such extremes to get the house? Or was it for something more?  Perhaps he was the true danger Xiao had warned you about.
Your chest ached, desperate to release the pent up storm of emotions whirling through you.  The wind picked up for a moment.  "Xiao?"  Your hoarse greeting was met with a grim-looking yaksha.  It was possible you were just imagining him in a time of need.  You hadn't seen him in a month now.
Xiao blinked and gave you a once-over as he stood beside you.  He had heard your sorrow like it was blaring in his ears.  His eyes fell to the gravestone, and his expression saddened further.  "She's dead." His question of disbelief sounded more like a tactless statement of fact.
"Yeah," you half-winced, half-scoffed at his remark.  "She's dead."  You knew all too well that he didn't mean any harm.  "Why're you standing in the rain?"
"I don't concern myself with the weather, but you should be inside.  Mortals are fragile."
"I don't particularly care at the moment." Your words cut through the rain like a blade of ice.
She has lost all of her family now, Xiao realized.  He watched you with admiration at how strong you were acting even though it was clear you were trying not to break.
"I came back to visit and check in on her," you opened up after a few minutes of silence.  His glance towards you prompted you to continue.  "And then a little girl told me an adeptus had saved her toy bunny.  That was you, wasn't it?"
"Mm."
"Did you...see her?  My Granny?"
"I have spoken with her several times over the course of several years.  I did not think it would be the last time.  What happened?"
"Heart attack."  You swallowed.  "When I reached the house, the Fatui were clearing it out."  You caught the color draining from Xiao's face.  "What? Do you know something?"
"So my suspicions were correct," Xiao muttered distastefully.  He looked around the graveyard.  "You're sure they all left?"
"Yes.  Zhongli said that before she died she had signed a contract to hand the house over.  But she wouldn't do that so easily."
Satisfied with his scan of their surroundings, Xiao folded his arms across his chest.  "I told you I would inform you of our predicament when the time is right.  The time is now."
"After my Granny just died?"  Your undirected anger manifested at his words.
"The Fatui are after the two of us."
"Why?"
"Our guess is they wish to create adepti soldiers or yakshas using the technique I used on you when you were a child."  Your eyes raised at 'our.'  Xiao's gaze flicked to you briefly.  "Zhongli."
"Wait, why would Zhongli be involved with this in the first place?"
"He is the former Lord of Geo, Rex Lapis--"
"Wait wait wait, he's what?!  But that's not possible, Rex Lapis is--"
"--Only a select few know his identity.  Do not go around telling."  You nodded, head spinning from all this new information.  "Childe was tasked with identifying and obtaining us.  If anyone gets their hands on an adeptus or your blood, it could spell the downfall of humankind."
"What exactly is my blood?  Why would they want me?"
"My blood runs through your veins."
"U-um...?"  You shifted uncomfortably at the thought.
"That is how I saved you," Xiao uncrossed his arms and faced you fully.  "It allows you to withstand more adeptal energy than the ordinary human, which is why I can be so close to you.  It also increases your body's healing capabilities.  It is the only reason you survived that day.  It is also the only reason you survived your lawachurl wound."
"...Why didn't you tell me this before?" You mumbled beneath your breath.  The rain hitting the earth nearly overtook the sound of your voice.  "We...We could have saved her."  Your anger leaked through your voice.  It wanted something to blame, something to lash out at.  You caught yourself before you could say or think something you didn't mean.  It was a heart attack.  Xiao is not to blame for this.  Childe is the enemy.
"Childe was listening in on our conversations.  I could not disclose this information to you so we would have the advantage to work in the dark against the him."  He stared down at the gravestone.  "I am...sorry.  I did not recognize the stress it would put her through. She was optimistic and happy when I last saw her."
You shook your head.  "I doubt it caused the heart attack.  I just want to know what they did to make her sell the house," your hands curled into fists.  "Childe will pay for this."
The two of you silently stood in the rain for some time before Xiao held his hand out to you.  "You will get sick if you stay out here longer.  Let us meet with the rest of the team."  You placed your injured hand in his, having forgot that it was aching the entire time.  Xiao's eyes narrowed at this, but he did not question you.  With your blood, it would heal by tomorrow morning.

Kaz Brekker didn’t need a reason. Those were the words whispered on the streets of Ketterdam, in the taverns and coffeehouses, in the dark and bleeding alleys of the pleasure district known as the Barrel.
Kaz Breaker didn't need a reason, but he always found one in Inej Ghafa,a girl who had a heart bigger than the entirety of Ketterdam, a girl to whom faith bowed the way greed and grudges bowed to him and a girl who, in spite of having been stripped off of her innocence in the menagerie at the age of fourteen, nurtured mercy and forgiveness in her heart and made it look like fate had never been anything but kind to her.
"I can help you"
Those were the words she had spoken the first time he met her, the words no one had dared to speak to him since Jordie. Yet, it weren't the words but her presence that surprised him- she had bells in her costume but he didn't hear her, She wore purple silk and had dots on her shoulders but he didn't see her, not until she spoke. It was as if she were a daughter of the shadows, a messenger of the West Wind, a wraith. Without responding, he stood up and left, feeling the heat of her eyes following him as he walked out of the door. The next day, he went to the Menagerie, bought her indenture and gave her the choice to join The Dregs, the option to choose freedom, although he wasn't sure if choosing between slavery and self-sufficiency was even a choice.
He got the girl her first knife, taught her how to pick locks and named her The Wraith- a name which, in the month to come, would scare the strongest of the men and make them look around twice before uttering it, lest she should come out of the shadows and slit their throats.
As time passed, Kaz found himself seeking comfort in the shadows, the same shadows in which the Wraith lurked. He found himself falling in love with everything about her, everything except her faith in her saints.
"Why do you hate the saints, Kaz?" She had asked.
"Because those saints didn't stop you from being torn away from your family, because the saints you worship are the same saints who didn't stop others from taking advantage of you…...because no saint ever watched over me, not like you have."
He had walked out of the room without uttering a single word.
"The saints may turn their backs on you but I will never." He had found himself muttering these words over and over again that night.
And surprisingly, everyday he would find himself keeping those unsaid promises, being at her side every time she needed him. Yet, he would never stop her from fighting; he would never take her weapons from her and let her rest, because that's what they do- they fight till their last breath.
Every time a man grabbed her in the Barrel, every time Tante Haleen's men jumped her and passed lewd remarks, he wouldn't run up to them to save her like the heroes in stories do. He would wait-his jaw clenching, his fingers tightening around the head of his cane until his knuckles would turn white- and watch. He would let her fight her way out of every situation, he would wait patiently as she punched and kicked them until she managed to place a knife against their throats.
Once, after finalizing a deal with a man in his office, the man had remarked "well, Mr Brekker, this calls for celebrations. Why don't you ask your whore to come in and-"
Instinctively, his hand flew to the man's collar before he got the chance to finish his sentence. As the laughter that followed the remark died out, something shone in the man's eyes as he tried to free himself from Kaz's grip- was it anger or fear that he couldn't tell for he was too busy trying to stop the darkness from taking over him and putting a bullet straight through his head.
'You have made people suffer and bleed to death for less...then why not now?' He found himself wondering.
'Because the shadows listen and the shadows will judge' he assured himself, before letting go of the man's collar and saying,
"I don't own her. No one does."
Two days later, he found the man sitting at a table with a drink in his hand and as he tilted his head, Kaz saw the angry gash that ran down the from the corner of his jaw and reached the base of his neck: made by someone who knew their knife the way one knows their hand, someone who intended to hurt but not to kill.
"Brekker sees everything" they say. Everytime someone pays for trying to double-cross Kaz even in the smallest way, the rumours rise and multiply, like the waves during a squall. Some say that Dirtyhands has eyes that can tell pollen from dust within a fraction of a second. Others say that he has spies in every crack and crevice that embellishes the city. Kaz neither confirms nor denies any, for every rumour that has ever reached his ears had been true, although up to a certain extent.
Yet there are things that he never saw. He never saw the way his Wraith would follow him down the streets every time a new death-threat knocked on his door, he never saw the way she would take the shape of his shadow and escort him to his battles even after being asked not to do so; and he never saw the way she had his back during his personal wars as well, the ones that creeped into darkness of his room and plagued his dreams while she would stand beside his sleeping body and think "just one more minute, one more second and then I'll wake him up."
Kaz Brekker saw everything but he never saw that while the silence of the night had lulled everyone else to sleep, a shadow that wasn't his own followed him up the stairs of the Slat as he rushed into bathroom where he finally undid his armour and sank to the ground before emptying his stomach in the toilet. His white shirt was speckled with the blood that trickled from his nose and his forehead but he didn't get the chance to think about it, for every time he breathed, he could think of nothing but the contact of skin with skin as the punches assaulted him until he was wrecked from within. He wasn't supposed to get into a fight, not that late at night, but as the attackers stripped him of his gloves and beat him down to dust, self-defense was the last thing on his mind.
And while he gagged and his breathing grew heavier, Inej pressed her forehead against the door of the bathroom and waited……
She waited until she couldn't hear him retching…
She waited until she couldn't hear the sound of him breathing….
And just as she was about to barge in, she heard the sound of the tap running and water splashing against skin….
And that is when she knew that he would be okay.
She pressed her ear to the door and listened until the splashing of water turned into the sound of steady breaths and then she turned away and melted into the shadows.
Just like she always had….
Just like she always will…..
Until Fate would decide to rip them apart.
P.S.: it has probabaly been eight billion years since I last wrote something, lol😛
Nevertheless, please feel free to point out typos (ya girl wrote this in a great hurry)
God I hope I won't regret this...

---------------------------------------------------------------
Azriel wasn’t entirely sure he would ever get over ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, or any other Marvel movies for that matter, having cried when Bucky was revealed, or when Pietro died making you practically piss yourself with laughter as you muttered something along the lines of “Just wait.”
When the sun began to rise you had turned the laptop off, pulling him in tightly as you pulled the thick duvet over you and proceeded to snore softly with your head pressed over his heart and your other hand reaching out and clutching your favourite soft toy. He thinks he maybe got three hours of sleep, but he laid with you the whole morning, addicted to the heat emitting from you and the way the whole room seemed to be resting as you slept, the breeze swaying the curtains matching that of your gentle breaths and the plants drooping as they too relaxed.
When you did wake, Azriel found his way between your legs, determined to wake you up properly. Your soft cries were like music to his ears, and he made you cum three times before you were pushing his shoulders away, shaking from over-stimulation, and climbing on top of him, sinking down slowly, letting yourself feel every inch. As he sat back, his hands resting on your waist to guide you when you became breathless, holding tightly and occasionally thrusting up into you when the pace became to slow for his taste. You reached a hand to his wings as his thumb found your clit, and you kissed sloppily as you searched for release.
Soon, you fell on top of him as he grunted, hips stalling as you whined into his open mouth. He slowly pulled out and wrapped his arms tightly around your middle, the two of you laying silently simply enjoying the others presence. You soon looked up at him and gave him a breathless smile, pecking his jaw, before swinging your legs over the side of the bed and grabbing a robe of the floor. You made your way to the record player and filled the room with the sound of the Bee Gee’s, Azriel closing his eyes and letting the foreign sounds consume him. You sat down at your vanity and started putting on your jewellery, all the movements practiced, and he cracked open an eye watching you string necklaces with crystals hanging from them around your neck. He laughed as you sang along to the song, flirty eyes catching his as you swayed from side to side.
“More than a woman…” you sang softly as you pulled lacy panties up your legs and rubbed fruity lotion into your legs and hands, waving your hands to dry them before pushing of numerous rings. He sat up in bed, watching you intently as you moved to your wardrobe and pulled out a pretty off-the-shoulder, white dress with frills and faint flowers decorating it. You dropped your robe and pulled on the dress, shaking your hair out and turning to walk over to him. The golden light from the window coated you and you look like you belonged in the Day Court as your skin was cast in the glow, it seemed to weave around you alike a halo and he was struck by how angelic you looked.
“I’m gonna go wash my face,” you said, pressing quick kiss to his lips and giggling sweetly when he tried to chase your mouth for more, pulling away and leaving the room, blowing a kiss in his direction.
He stood, a love-drunk smile on his face as he went about finding his boxers from the night before and pulling them on, grimacing at the tight fit, before he wandered to the drawer you had pulled them from, laughing when he found men’s joggers as well and pulling them on. When he turned to find a top he was instead greeted by a middle-aged man in running gear. He reached for truth-teller, moving into a fighting stance, his shadows swarming around him menacingly and silently begged that you would stay in the bathroom to avoid seeing any blood.
“At ease Azriel, I won’t hurt you.” The strange man said, not actually looking at him and instead typing furiously on his phone.
“How did you get in here?” Azriel asked gruffly, assessing the man to see if he had weapons.
The man waved a hand through the air dismissively, “You are not supposed to be here you know.”
“What do you mean?” He was still uncomfortable at the fact the man knew his name, and now he was insinuating that he knew that Azriel wasn’t from this world.
“Stupid Aphrodite and her hopeless ideals messing up the routes so you could meet (y/n). The fates won’t be happy if you don’t return soon, and even worse Persephone will lose it if she thinks her daughter has been dragged into any messy situations like this, so you boy, are going home, come on.” He beckoned to Azriel, but he didn’t budge.
“Who are you?” He demanded as the man rolled his eyes.
“Hermes, messenger God, now come on I don’t have all day.”
“What did you mean by the fates?”
Hermes sighed deeply, muttering something about a pay raise under his breath before he finally looked up at Azriel. “Some soulmates simply just aren’t meant to meet I’m afraid, why do you think we wrote so many tragedies. If a Greek is born lucky enough to have a soulmate they will likely be from another world, and that means they cannot be together. I know you think she is your mate, but she must stay here, she’s not even immortal it would be cruel. I told Aphrodite to not let you two meet and that it would just end in heart-break, but she didn’t listen, felt bad for the girl or something, but either way you need to leave now.”
Azriel opened his mouth to reply but couldn’t find the words, you really were his, his mate, but now he was being told that he couldn’t be with you. He tried to reply again but before he could you were floating back into the room, smiling widely when you saw Hermes.
“Hermes, long time no see. What calls you to my humble abode?” you asked, moving to Azriel’s side and laughing when he still didn’t put down his dagger, “It’s okay Az, Hermes is actually one of the nicer ones.”
Hermes laughed at the compliment, but sadness shone in his eyes as he looked upon you.
“You look happy,” he said, a regretful look suddenly over-coming his features, yet Azriel couldn’t feel any sympathy for the man that was going to hurt his mate.
“I am.” You said, gazing up at Azriel with soft eyes, and Hermes placed his buzzing phone in his back pocket.
“My child, it’s time for Azriel to leave,” he said softly, your head whipping around to look at him.
“What?” The sharpness of your tone surprised Azriel. He had grown used to your soft side that spoke to flowers and baked homemade bread, but now he was remembering the broken part of you that was part God and build walls up in seconds. He placed a hand on your lower back as the room suddenly shuddered under your power, all plants awakening.
“You two were never meant to meet, Aphrodite just wanted you to meet him after your fall, but she forgot that he would have to return, I’m so sorry.” Your eyes filled with tears as you tried to make sense of what was happening, snarling at the God.
“No but this has nothing to do with the Gods, it- he got here on his own, we met by chance,” You were shaking as you tried to explain, sadness and confusion battling anger, and Azriel thought he could hear his heart break.
“I’m sorry child, I have to take him back. He only got here because of Aphrodite.” You were shaking your head, tears flowing freely now, gripping his arm and Hermes approached.
“NO, no there must be another way, please don’t take him from me! I need him, I love him, please don’t do this!” Hermes, shockingly, also appeared to be close to tears as he rested his hand on Azriel’s shoulder, his body going numb as he was pulled from you, unable to fight back.
“(y/n), baby, I’m sorry, I’ll figure this out okay I promise. I’m not leaving you here.” He didn’t think he would ever feel this much pain again as he watched the woman he loved sob, trying desperately to hold onto him as he was pulled from her world, the image of her collapsing to her knees as he was wrenched from her grip becoming imprinted in his mind.
--
He was gone. He was gone and you were alone again.
The scuffed wooden floor below you was cool as you pressed your forehead against it, sobs racking your body. You pushed yourself up and sat against the wall, checking the time on the clock. 15 minutes. You would cry for 15 minutes and then you would get him back. To many times you have just accepted your fate, but you couldn’t this time, you and Azriel met for a reason there had to be something. You wouldn’t let the anger and fear swallow you again.
When 15 minutes had past you forced your self to stand, wiping your eyes with your hand before searching for tissues. When you had blown your nose, you found an old notebook and grabbed your pen. A list, a list would organise your thoughts, you could find a loophole something had to work. You wrote down every theory you had, every book you would have to look in and every person you had to ask, sniffling, and rubbing the tears from your eyes. When you were done you found the backup burner phone you kept for emergencies and found Annabeth’s number. She picked up on the third ring and you took in a shaking breath.
“I think I need your help.”
--
Hermes left Azriel on the outskirts of Velaris, strangely back in his Illyrian leathers, he had apologised again, true sadness shining in his eyes, but Azriel just growled as feeling returned to his limbs. Hermes looked as if he wanted to say something but decided not to and with that left.
As Azriel shot off the ground he was struck with a sharp pain in his chest, as if being apart from her was physically paining him. He flew over his home, the city he had grown to love but even the feeling of coming home couldn’t distract from the cold that was seeping into his bones. He would destroy the Gods themselves before he let them take you from him and he fought a snarl as he pictured the hell he would make them pay for making you cry.
He landed outside the town house but before he could even open the door the wind was knocked out of him as Cassian barrelled into him in what was either a really rough hug or a tackle, it was hard to tell with Cassian sometimes.
“WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN IT’S BEEN WEEKS?!” he winced as Cassian yelled right in his ear, shoving him off him as the rest of his family, minus Amren, surrounded him. Feyre was next to hug him and he returned his High Lady’s embrace, when she pulled away he met Rhysand’s eyes, and he saw the sadness in Azriel’s, shocked as Azriel rarely let any emotion show on his face.
“C’mon lets go inside,” Rhys said, outstretching an arm for his wife. Mor, holding Nyx, followed them in and Cassian who was still glaring at Azriel grabbed his arm and tugged him in, grumbling under his breath about how Azriel hadn’t even sent a letter.
When they were all sat, including Amren who apparently just couldn’t be bothered to come greet him as she knew he was coming her way anyway, Feyre asked him what happened. His eyes instinctively found Elain where she sat huddled in the corner of an armchair, and as he took in her spectacular beauty, all he could think of was how no one compared to you. No one compared to your callused hands that had seen many fights and handled many weapons, or your scarred back that only proved how strong you truly were. No amount of beauty could ever compare to you when you had completely stolen his heart, it didn’t help that you were also the most beautiful woman he had ever met.
He paused, a small part of him wanting to keep you a secret as he feared Cassian’s flirting and the prospect of losing the woman he loved again, but as he looked upon where Cassian sat with nothing but worry for his brother in his eyes, Nesta perched next to him, back straight as usual but a hand in his brother’s, he realised he was being ridiculous. He rubbed his temples and took a deep breath, fiddling with his hands as he told his family everything.
--
Percy had forgotten how much he loved (y/n)’s cottage. It always smelt of cinnamon in winter and roses in summer and it usually had the second-best homemade goods her had ever eaten, their only flaw being the lack of blue food colouring. But he didn’t have time to dwell on how he had missed the house too much as Annabeth pulled him through the door and into (y/n)’s kitchen where she sat staring with the blank look on her face that Percy knew meant something had gone horribly wrong. She looked up when they entered and stood, practically falling into Annabeth’s arms, hugging her tightly before Percy tugged her into his own, a hand resting protectively on her head. She had always been like a little sister to him even though she was only a few months younger than him, and consistently beat him in training exercises. The first few months after they escaped Tartarus, he had brought her meals and held her when she sobbed and threw up due to nightmares, helping her through the trauma and trying not to throw up himself when Annabeth applied the ointment Will had given you to her back. When she told him of the fraught relationship she had with her father he decided that she needed someone who would be like family and had practically adopted her after they defeated Kronos, the seven, Nico and Will becoming the loving family she had always wanted.
When she pulled away, he nudged her to sit down as Annabeth started preparing chamomile tea for her in the hopes of relaxing her.
“What happened kiddo?” he asked softly, and she huffed a laugh at the nickname. He smiled when he remembered her reaction when he first said it.
“We’re literally the same age!” She threw her hands up as he laughed at her reaction.
“Doesn’t matter you’re technically younger than me.” He argued as she glared at him playfully before waving her hand, laughing when he was strung upside down by a thick vine encircling his ankle.
“Right that’s just unfair!” he laughed before adding “kiddo,” at the end, flipping her off when she rolled her eyes and let him fall and land in a heap, sitting up and rubbing his elbow.
“Rude.” He muttered but she just laughed, picking up the swords she was training with and moved to continue with her training.
They sat and listened as she explained what had happened, taking small sips of her hot tea as she went. When she finished Percy let out a soft curse.
“So Hermes just took him?” Annabeth asked, her eyebrows furrowed in a way Percy knew meant her mind was going a million miles an hour.
She nodded sadly, “there has to be something I can do right? I was finally making progress; I watched all three Iron Man movies with him.”
“That’s a lot of red,” Percy noted, and she bit her lip, nodding sadly.
“What if I never see him again?” She asked, the way her voice broke hit something inside him as he remembered how much it sucked being separated from Annabeth.
“You will.” Annabeth said with such certainty, Percy expected this faerie boyfriend to appear in the seat next to him. Annabeth lifted her bag and started pilling the books she had brought with her and (y/n) stood and moved around her living room, grabbing ones of her own.
“I figured old myths of my mum might help, y’know forbidden love and all,” she said the joke not quite reaching her eyes, but Annabeth nodded.
“I thought the same, but I also figured maybe something to do with Eurydice and Orpheus given he went to the underworld to get her back when they were separated.”
“Didn’t they both die at the end?” Percy asked and (y/n) laughed sadly.
“Shush,” Annabeth said, passing him a book and highlighter. He groaned.
“Why did I agree to this?” He asked but no one answered, and he looked up to see the two women already reading, determination covering their features, so he instead cracked his neck and picked up his own book.
--
Almost 10 hours later you slammed your book down in frustration, wiping your eyes roughly.
“Nothing, there isn’t one thing here. Either I do something stupid and we both die, or I need to find a way to be allowed to live in his world half the year and this one the other half.” Your shoulders slumped, “And that’s presuming I ever get to see him again, and then! Even then, I have what 70 years with him if I’m lucky. That’s nothing to him, he’s fucking five hundred years old.”
Annabeth looked up sympathetically, one hand woven in Percy’s hair as he slept with his head in her lap.
“I’m sorry, I just don’t think this has ever happened before. We might have to start looking elsewhere.”
“I just miss him. I know it’s not even been a day, but he was my soulmate, Hermes said so, he thinks I didn’t hear, but I did and now my chest actually hurts now that he’s gone. He’s gone and I don’t think he’s coming back.” You didn’t know how you had any tears left but they were flowing down your cheeks, hot against your cold hands as you wiped your face.
“You will, I promise we’ll figure something out, even if we have to go to the Gods themselves.” Annabeth smiled at you.
“WAIT!” Percy jumped up suddenly, surprising you both, given he appeared to be sleeping. “The Gods, (y/n) you never got your reward.”
“What?”
“After the battle and the fall, you were offered a reward, but you said no because you sensed you would need it in the future. This is the future you need it now you can be with him!” Percy was practically running circles around your living room, gesturing widely as his arms flailed but Annabeth had gone wholly still, doing the math in her head.
“He’s right, that could work.” You felt hope rise in your chest as Annabeth spoke, “But you would have to be specific, if we’ve pissed off Zeus he’ll try trick you, he’s kinda like a genie.” You let out a genuine laugh.
“I think I need to visit my mum,” you said, eyes bright with hope.
“But it’s September.” Percy said, and you gave him a pained smile, grimacing as you realised where you were going.
“I think Nico and I are overdue for a family dinner.”

This took a bit of time to get my head wrapped around lol x
“Who are you speaking to now” your boyfriend spoke with raised eyebrows, heading into the living room where you were sat scrolling through nothing good on social media, “oh just a friend” you shrugged back as he became intrigued, “Rachel?” he questioned as you shook your head, “nope. Well I was earlier but”
“Then who, anyone I know?” he joked as he could never recall the list of friends you had, “yeah you know him” you smiled before getting up from your comfy position on the sofa to get a glass of water, leaving your phone on the side table, “him? Who are we talking abo-“ he began just as you walked out the room. His eyes tracked your phone as it lit up with the messenger icon and missed facetime call and being nosey as ever, he couldn’t resist taking a sneak peak at who it was after your attention.
“What are you up to” you laughed, strolling back into the room where he had a firm hold on your phone, his eyes narrowed to you as he sat with a digested look on his face, “you mean what are you up to, tell me why the fuck you’re all pally with him” he said through very gritted teeth, turning the screen towards your view. “Calm down alright, it’s just Ben...” you said effortlessly, flopping down on the sofa, “I don’t give a shit, why the fuck are you messaging my teammate behind my back” he began to get defensive and jealous as per as he stood up. “Woah hang on a minute, ‘behind your back’ fuck off Christian, don’t turn this into something it isn’t. I’m telling you he’s a friend and THAT’S it, nothing more” you spat back, disappointed at the fact that thought had even crossed his mind.
“Yeah yeah whatever, funny how you’ve never mentioned it before” he laughed, heading into the kitchen as you stormed after him, “actually I have if you ever listen to a word I fucking say, what the hell is your problem tonight moody arse”
“My problem is you, texting him every hour of every day and I mean yous seem pretty close eh, a bit too close” he challenged, his face lighting up the brightest shade of red, “what so I can’t have friends now, is that it? Well quite frankly i couldn’t give two shits if you have something against it” you hissed back. “Fine then, you know what, fuck off with Ben, be with him because it’s clear I can’t compete anymore” the words left his mouth, trailing off as you went silent, tears pricking your eyes, “don’t be like this-“
“No no honestly it’s fine I’ll do you a favour and break up with you rather than the other way round ok?” he announced as you stormed off, grabbing your coat and keys before slamming the front door, not able to look at him never mind argue. At this time of night you found your feet taking you to the closest house of your friend’s, Ben Chilwell’s.
————————
The night was full of you crying into the shoulder of your comforting friend, ranting about everything, the two of you just sat talking for hours on end until eventually you drifted off to sleep on his settee.
You were awoken to the constant ringing of the bell and multiple dramatic knocks, “Jesus it’s a bit early” Ben said, rubbing his sleepy eyes as he headed over to the door, opening it to reveal a tired, fed up Christian, “hi mate have you seen Y/N by any chance, I kind of did something daft last night and thought you’d might know where she was, like if she was staying at a friend’s house” he said as Ben scratched at his head, debating whether to say anything.
“Christian...what are you doing here?” you called, coming into frame as you stumbled along the hallway, “well I was coming to see if anyone knew where you were but of course you’d be here, out of all the places. Honestly don’t know why I even bother these days” he replied in a harsh manner, looking you up and down. “We’re still talking about this really? Get fucking over it already you jealous dick” you shouted as Ben backed off, leaving the pair of you to it, “and to think I was about to apologise, you’re pathetic” he fought back as you stood stunned as ever.
“No you’re the pathetic one, can’t deal with the fact I have male friends. You seriously need to take a good look in the mirror because right now you’re just embarrassing yourself” you laughed leaning against the door frame as he turned to walk back to his car, “can we not just talk about this?”
“You’re alright, there’s nothing more to say, go back to bed with you’re new boyfriend you mean fuck all to me now...lying cheat” his words cut deeper than knife as he sped away down the drive, officially leaving you single and heartbroken 💔

What’s in a Name?
CarryOnCap’s Masterlist
Pairing: Michael!Dean x reader, Dean x reader
WC: 2,135
Summary: Weeks after Michael disappeared with Dean as his vessel, you decide to take some time away from the bunker. Nothing could have prepared you for the talk you have (or the tearful goodbye) when he pays you an unexpected visit.
Square Filled: Midnight Snack
Warnings: Season 14 spoilers if you haven’t seen it. Some angst. Sort of sappy fluff. Revelation of feelings and implied mutual pining. Minor mentions of injuries. Kind of a corny, abrupt ending. Also this gif by @teamfreewillbettertogether (I mean LOOK AT HIM.)
A/N: This is my first submission for #spndeanbingo challenge round 1 hosted by @spndeanbingo Inspired by this 14x01 gif and the end dialogue of 14x09. (I do not claim to own the dialogue from those episodes, I just paraphrased for this fic.) This was supposed to be a drabble but it got away from me. lol
Tumblr media
You had just finished a case up north-- nothing big, just a few werewolves preying on teenagers who were exploring the woods on the outskirts of town at night for “something to do.” You had tracked down the last of the pack just in time to save a young girl from becoming an unfortunate midnight snack. After driving her home and observing a tear-filled reunion with her parents, you returned to the motel you’d been staying at.
You were exhausted, covered head to toe in cuts and bruises from the hunt, and you knew you needed some rest. But sleep didn’t come easily these days and, when it did, you often found yourself dreaming of Dean. It kept you up at night knowing he was out there somewhere locked away under Michael’s control, and dreaming about him only seemed to make you miss him more.
It was late, but you decided to venture to the gas station up the street to grab a midnight snack of your own, hoping the cool evening air and a little food might help ease your mind. After cleaning up a little, you slipped out of your room and back into the night.
It had been weeks and there'd still been no sign of Dean or Michael. Sam had been working tirelessly trying to find him, but so far he still hadn’t had any leads. In an effort to help with the search, you packed a bag and set out to connect with some of your old contacts.
...At least that’s what you told Sam.
Truthfully, you had decided to leave because you needed a break from it all. The bunker had begun to feel crowded with all of the new inhabitants from Apocalypse World. Sam, Mary, Cas, and Jack checked on you at all hours of the day because they all seemed to know about the feelings you harbored for Dean. You appreciated their concern, but the lack of alone time and space left you feeling suffocated and on edge.
On top of it all, the bunker somehow also felt eerily empty without your favorite green eyed hunter. Reminders and memories of him seemed to haunt every inch of the place. With how overwhelming everything had become, it was liberating to work a case or two while you took some time to grieve and process everything in peace.
After buying a sandwich, a six pack, and a mini pie, you thanked the cashier and began the short trek back to your motel. Still lost in thought, you had taken a shortcut down an alley when a noise from behind stopped you in your tracks. It was subtle and if you hadn’t recognized it immediately, it might’ve gone unnoticed-- drowned out by the bustle of cars, sirens, and drunken bar-goers still enjoying what was left of their night.
The familiar rustle of angel wings.
Realizing you’d left your angel blade in the duffel bag beside your bed, you tried to remain calm. Cas had no way of knowing where you were and you knew the few angels left in existence were doing all they could to keep heaven running. Grappling with the fear and hope you could feel rising in your chest, you wracked your brain for any other possible explanation for who could be behind you. But even before he spoke, you knew it was him.
“Hello Y/N.”
It wasn’t his voice-- not really. Even so, the sound was oddly comforting after so many weeks without it. If you’d kept your back to him, you might’ve been able to let yourself pretend it really was him. That he had managed to break free from the archangel somehow and track you down.
But it was the way he said your name that let you know who it really was. His voice was hollow. Almost formal.
One thing you’d always loved about Dean--whether he was angry or worried or teasing--was the way he said your name. There was always so much emotion behind it. Always a trace of the unconditional love he gave to everyone he cared about. When he spoke your name, there was always a deeper implication: no matter what he was feeling or what you had done, you knew he would always protect you and have your back. There was never a need for him to say those things outright, because somehow you’d always understood.
But this wasn’t him and those weren’t the feelings you had when your name rolled off of his tongue. Taking a deep breath, you slowly turned to face the man behind you.
“Michael.”
The corner of his mouth tilted into a smirk. He wore a gray three piece suit, a long coat, and a newsboy style cap. His head was slightly bowed, casting a dark shadow over his eyes. Instead of the relaxed, bow-legged stance you were accustomed to, his posture was stiff and typical of the angels you’d grown familiar with over the years.
“It’s nice to be able to skip the introductions.”
He raised his head and the motion seemed almost robotic. His jade eyes briefly flashed a bright electric blue and the longer you looked at his emotionless face, the more unsettled you began to feel. Everything about him seemed detached and unnatural-- a stark contrast to the man you knew.
“What do you want?”
“What do I want? It’s a little...ironic.” His lips stretched into a wry grin, but there was still an emptiness behind it. “That’s what I’ve been traveling all around this world asking people. ‘What do you want?’ Their answers are always the same: Peace. Power. Revenge. Love.”
You exhaled upon hearing the final word--recalling the countless number of fantasies you’d had about Dean confessing something similar to you.
“They say the things they think I expect to hear. Give answers they hope will ensure their survival. It’s all so very...weak. Pathetic. Human. But I will admit free will does keep things marginally interesting...how these ‘wants’ seem to motivate you. To give you a cause to fight for.”
You stood motionless, soaking in every bit of the speech he was delivering. The way he spoke was flat and unhurried. You reminded yourself over and over that it wasn’t him, but as his voice washed over you...the hold he had on you was undeniable.
He took a few steps forward, hands behind his back as he began circling you like a predator stalking its prey.
“He’s still in here, you know.” He tapped a finger on his temple when he circled in front of you again. “Resisting me. Squirming and trying to claw his way out. To get back to all of you.”
“Is there a point to this monologue?” Your voice wavered, sounding feeble instead of assertive.
“I can sense how vulnerable you are in my presence because of this pretty face. Haven’t you ever wondered what it is that Dean wants most?” He began slowly pacing back and forth in front of you. “I know his thoughts. His desires. His reasons for fighting. I know all that you’ve been through together...”
“He wants the same thing we all do. To take out as many of you douchebags as we can until--”
“You are what he wants.”
You tried to swallow, but your throat had gone dry.
“...what?”
“Why do you think he said yes to me? Why do all of you sacrifice yourselves for each other? Again and again...and again.” He paused and met your eyes when you didn’t say anything. “For love. For the fear of having to live without each other. For the ‘family business’ or whatever. Now, Sam? Mary? His angel pal and even the nephilim-- sure, he loves them. He would die for them. But you…well, there aren’t words for how devastated he would be if anything ever happened to you.”
“You’re...lying,” you whispered.
“I’m just a messenger, sweetheart.”
He spun on his heel and held his hands out to his sides, chuckling as he shook his head. You wanted to believe everything he was saying, but you had no reason to. Michael had lied to Dean-- why wouldn’t he do the same to you?
“Why are you telling me any of this? Why bother finding me at all?”
“Because his squirming is like an incessant gnat that simply won’t go away. So, as a small attempt to put his floundering to rest, I decided to pay you a visit. To say the things he never could. To put an end to his doubts...the worry and the fear and the anger that keeps him fighting. To show him there’s no need to resist me any longer. Lucifer is dead and all of you survived.”
“So you’re pretending to care about his well-being now?” you scoffed. “That’s your play?”
“He’s angry with himself for saying ‘yes’--but he wanted to save his brother and the boy. To beat Lucifer and, together, that’s what we did. He’s so worried about his family’s safety but, with my help, you were all spared from Lucifer’s wrath. Now, after everything I’ve told you...do you have any idea what Dean’s greatest fear is? His reason for continuing to resist me?”
As the gears turned and every fiber of your being seemed to have a hunch about what he meant, your mind refused to even consider the possibility. There was no way he could possibly mean--
“You,” Michael sighed impatiently. “You’re the one he’s most attached to. The source of his deepest fear and regret. Because what if something happened to his beloved Y/N? What if he never had the chance to tell you that he loves you? That he’s always been too much of a coward to admit it.”
Feeling like the air had been knocked from your lungs, tears began to well in your eyes at his admission. You weren’t sure if he was telling the truth, but if there was any way to reach him...you had to try.
“Dean? If you can hear me--”
“Dean’s not home right now. He’s served his purpose and his mission is complete. Now it’s time for mine.”
You knew you should ask what he meant, but right now you couldn’t care less about Michael’s mission. Taking a measured step forward, you gazed into his eyes and hoped he could hear you, no matter how deep he was buried.
“I love you too, Dean. More than you could ever know… And no matter what happens, none of this is your fault.”
Michael scoffed at your attempt before suddenly hunching over to stare at the ground. His expression quickly grew irritated and he shook his head as he rolled his shoulders back.
“So...very...pathetic,” he mumbled angrily.
“...Dean?”
He stood abruptly, jaw clenched and nostrils flaring as he closed the distance between the two of you. You watched as he curled his lip in disgust and placed two fingers on your forehead. When his pupils flash blue once again, your body went rigid as a warm energy spread from your head to your toes.
As he withdrew his hand, you breathed heavily and rolled your sleeves up to discover the wounds from your hunt had been healed. You glanced back at him with a puzzled expression and let out a small gasp when you noticed how drastically his demeanor had changed.
Instead of blank, dead eyes, you were met with tender emerald ones. He reached a hand out and lightly traced his fingertips along the edge of your jaw.
“Y/N…”
It was nothing more than a whisper; a silent plea for you to hear everything he didn’t have time to say. When the word escaped his lips, he drew his eyebrows together-- all of the raw emotion Michael had kept locked away painted clearly on his face.
You understood completely, hearing it all in the way he said your name.
“I know, Dean. We’re gonna find a way to get you back. Just hold on.”
He cupped your cheek and a sad, longing smile graced his lips when you leaned into his touch. Without warning, his eyes flashed blue once more.
In the blink of an eye he was gone.
Clenching the bag of food and beer in one hand, you wiped away a few stray tears and fished your phone from your pocket. After selecting a number from your favorite contacts, you began jogging toward the motel. The line rang several times before going to voicemail, but you quickly hung up and dialed again.
Arriving at your room, you unlocked the door and began frantically packing your bag. You huffed in frustration when the call went to voicemail again but, on your third attempt, you finally heard Sam’s groggy voice.
“Hello?”
“Sam? It’s Y/N. So, get this--”

Decoy - Prologue (IN THE PROCESS OF RE-WRITING)
Prologue of sorts. Been wanting to make a Gaara fanfic for a while now with an oc I have. This is completely self indulgent and just for fun lol.
(Set sometime after Gaara had Shukaku removed by the Akatsuki.)
- 11/05/21 (Small edits on phasing where I thought reflected the characters better.)
A soft rapping against the door of the Kazekage's office stole the attention of the young man sitting at his desk inside. He shifted the papers in his hand slightly lower as he looked up, simultaneously granting the visitor access.
A softer look washed over Gaara's features as his older sister entered into the room. Her calm seemingly excited exterior reassured him nothing was amiss. Temari smiled as she nodded towards her brother. "Hikari's arrived, Gaara." she informed, resulting in a small smile to appear across the Kazekage's face.
Although the Leaf kunoichi was here on less than ideal circumstances, Gaara was still pleased to be able to see one of his close friends again. It had been some months since he had last had a chance to see Naruto and even longer since he and Hikari had last had a chance to meet.
Gaara stood from his desk and followed Temari to meet Hikari who his sister had already brought to one of the several vacant rooms inside the Kazakage tower per his request. He had wanted to make their meeting as informal as he could and so opted for a place outside his office even if it was only down the hall.
"I sent a messenger bird to inform the Hokage of Hikari's arrival..." Temari informed her brother not realizing her words were falling on deaf ears as she continued.
A familiar light, fluttering settled into the pit of Gaara's stomach as he made his way down the hall only half listening to his sisters words as they walked. He had yet to really identify this feeling, he had some idea but was hesitant to recognize or question any feelings towards his dear friend that what he thought fell outside the realms of friendship.
Though it was hard to dismiss the unique overwhelming feeling of warmth and comfort that consumed him as he laid eyes on his friend in question as Temari ushered him into the room. Hikari stood talking to Kankuro, a soft laugh in response to something his brother had said met his ears before she noticed him. Once the door shut Hikari's eyes immediately darted to his and softened as she sent a beaming smile his way, it's warmth enough to rival the sun.
"Gaara!" she greeted excitedly, making her way over to him. The sound of his name on her lips was enough to relax his previously stiffened shoulders, something his siblings never failed to notice. Temari smiled fondly as the shorter girl greeted her brother while Kankuro sported a much wider grin.
"You never miss a beat Gaara. She's only just arrived and you're already here to greet her!" Kankuro teased, not missing the slight frown he earned from the redhead. Temari side eyed her brother before coming to Gaara's aid, "Says the one who met her at the gate, we were all looking forward to seeing each other, right Hikari?" Temari smiled towards the younger in question.
"Of course! It's been too long since I've seen you guys!" she responded, her attention then returning to Gaara as she placed a hand on his arm before giving him a once over. "You've grown again, that's no fair," she laughed lightly before continuing "we used to be the same height and now I have to look up to see you!"
Gaara smiled and let out an amused puff of air, trying as hard as he could to fight off the embarrassment he felt after thinking Hikari's actions were endearing. "Temari had mentioned that before, though I hadn't really noticed myself before it was pointed out to me." Gaara responded softly.
A brief moment passed before Kankuro cleared his throat, "Not that I want to ruin the reunion but we should probably brief each other on the situation." he said effectively changing the tone of the room to a more serious one.
Temari voiced her agreement along with Hikari before Gaara nodded and headed to the door. "Agreed, we'll discuss the details in my office." he spoke before leading the others to his office.

The Outlaw Prince Part.1 (Fanasty AU Shigaraki Tomura x F!reader)
Summary: As the sovereign Queen, you must sign every execution order before the punishment is performed. This give the criminal a final chance to plead for their case. You would summon them into the castle, treat them like guests, and hear their final words. Your grandfather was the one that made this tradition, to show how he is a merciful ruler (he is not, he is only doing this to save his reputation of a being tyrant).  If they have some small final wishes, like what kind of coffin they like or some money for their family, you will fulfill that. Always have mercy on the dying, even they are murderers or human traffickers. That is what Grandpapa told you. You seen your father did this many times, but this is the first time you host such an event. Unfortunately, this criminal seems to have peaked your interests.
Notes: You all seem to love Shigaraki, so here I am. Maybe yandere in second part? This has been stewing in my mind ever since I thought about that fantasy AU. The reader is still the new Sovereign Queen, this happens before she takes suitors. Of course I am not going to make Tomura a conventional Prince! I may or may not write a bit nsfw in the later chapters, but don’t get your hopes up lol. I planned three parts, but it could get out of hand and become a multi-chapter project...
The other fics can be found on my master list.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Warnings: Swearing
Tumblr media
This is the moment you dreaded ever since you put that ruby ring on. Signing death sentence warrants. You know it is going to come sooner or later, since you watched your father perform these duties, even accompanied him on several trials. It should not frighten you.
So why does this sense of unease have been plaguing you as of late?
Now you are sitting at your desk, studying the file of this unfortunate soul.
“Tomura Shigaraki, Crimes: attempt murder of one of the most renowned mercenaries, All might.” The stunt failed, and this man received the death sentence for it.
You had met All Might back when you were a princess and think of him as that caring uncle everyone wants. He once praised your sword techniques, leaving you flustered. Who would want such a wonderful man dead? Sociopaths, probably. That is what most criminals are, after all.
           “Age:21”
He is about your age, although you cannot even begin to imagine what happened. What made a young man commit such immoral acts? There is more to this file, but you want to hear him firsthand without any prejudice. Shutting the folder, you massaged your temples and mentally prepared yourself for the trials. You received a messenger yesterday from the State Prison that they are transferring him here today. You are supposed to greet him in a few hours.
Grandpapa surely knows what he is getting his descendants into. Meeting criminals? Did he have too much time in his schedule? I know most of these people deserves death, but why do I have to be the final judge?
Cursing your grandfather under your breath, you decide to take a little nap before. Such an exhausting activity surely calls for a little rest prior, right?
As the third bell of the afternoon rang, you got up to stretch and yawn, then takes your time to the special dungeon. You had always disliked attendants trailing behind you, therefore you always traveled in the castle alone. Even if something were to happen, the sword in your skirt pocket can be put to use (That is one advantage of such elaborate crinolines). You are your most dependable protector, or so your grandfather said. So far the castle has been peaceful, thanks to the capable guards.
Even though you were supposed to treat them like guests, you cannot just let them occupy the regular guest rooms. Your grandpapa had built a special building in the northeast corner of the castle gardens, especially for this matter.
The door guards bowed to you as you stood in font of the metal gate, contemplating your mindset. Your father usually treated them like official business partners, cold and distant. That approach is prudent, but you want to do something different. You want them to open up to you, get to know them before you send them to their dooms. Maybe you can even get some wronged ones spared!
“This is the room, your majesty. Should I accompany you?” The steward of this building asks you nervously. Ah, your mind had wondered too far. You did not notice how you had followed him to the location.
“Thank you, but I’ll manage. You can sit on the other side of the glass and aid me if necessary.” You smile, though your tone is firm. This is a good chance to prove you are a competent monarch, interrogate a criminal alone.
The room was decently furnished, without a single unnecessary decoration. Except that big mirror that almost covers the entire wall, a mirror made with two-way glass, see through from the other side. Two armchairs, a little tea table in between and a couch.
There he is; the criminal you’re going to interrogate for the next month. He is sitting on the couch, with shackles on his wrists and ankles. His back is facing you, so you cannot see his appearance beside that messy blue hair.
“Finally here? Your Majesty? You certainly took your sweet time.” He did not come kiss your hand, as expected. Gods, how long has it been since he had a proper drink? Those chapped lips did not form within a day. Even with those scars, his crimson eyes still stood out as beautiful. Ignoring his mocking tone, you told the servants to bring tea and refreshments.
“Mr. Shigaraki. I am sure you know who I am, so I will skip the pleasantries. So, tell me about yourself.” Settling on one of the sofas, you start to caress the wooden handle of your sword. Even though this man is in tied in chains only long enough to just move around this room, the best thing to do it stay on your guard.
He laughs, almost sent a chill down your spine, but decides to take a set on the opposite sofa regardless. “Your country is an odd one.” Shigaraki studies you with that unsettling red gaze, with a grin on his lips. “The Queen has to have tea parties with criminals. Do you have nothing better to do?” That is when the maids brought the tea trays. She offers to come in to act as a chaperone, but you took the tea tray and assure her you are doing just fine.
“This is part of my duties. Sugar cube? Honey? Whichever you prefer.” Pouring yourself a cup of your favorite blend, you offer him some as well. Your mouth already started to water at the chocolate cake on the set.
Tomura is stunned, to say the least. He did not expect you to be so...friendly with a lowly criminal like him. He thought this is just another interrogation session, despite the guard had him bathed and dressed him in nice clothes. Sure, he knows this process, but he thought it was just a gesture of the ruling class to appear merciful.
Still, it would be rude to turn the invite from a beautiful lady like you.
He had heard about you before. A spoiled little girl who took the crown due to family tragedies. So why not indulge in some lighthearted conversations before meeting his end?
“...One teaspoon of honey.” Tomura wanted to add please at the end, then remembered the current situation. This tea sure smells good. When was the last time he drank such sophisticated beverage? He honestly cannot recall; it was such a long time ago...
The clear sound of fine porcelain landing in front of him woke Shigaraki from nostalgia. “So, mind introducing yourself, Sir?”
“You already read files about me.” “Maybe, but I want to hear your story from your lips.” You wonder whether it would be possible to let one of the guards apply lip balm on him, by force or otherwise. Taking a sip from the cup, Shigaraki begun to tell you about his hidden past.
“Despite my current situation, I was born to a high station. Although I am also the one who thrown all of it away. I abandoned my old name and took the current one. I have no family left, nothing to hold me back from my goals.” The tea is sweet, almost too sweet for his liking.
A noble fell from grace, then. You seen those kinds before, usually quite well-mannered, but bitter about how fate had treated them. At least you do not have to bear with profanities. You nod to signal him you are listening, stirring to dissolve the sugar cube. “So why would you kill Mr. Yagi? I personally would never do that, for example.”
Of course you would not. You are too good to even think about killing a hero like All Might. Girls born with golden spoons like you would never understand what peasants had to go through just for a mouthful of food.
“The current social order is crooked. Someone must fix it, by whatever means possible. Even if you were to kill me now, there’ still countless others like me. Have fun with them.” Putting down the cup, Tomura turns towards the small window on his right.
“Interesting. What is wrong with the current society?” Taking out a notebook, you begin to scribble with your pencil. “Do you think this continent should have anarchy?”
“Do you wish to give up your crown this badly? I thought you know better, little Queen. I guess I could tell you, you’re curious one.” Most people would spit on him as if Shigaraki is a rat from the sewers, forgotten who he was before descends to villainy. You are one of the few who shows compassion to him, fake or not. He wonders if this is your usual business attitude. Something in your knowledge hunger attitude, your glistening eyes makes him want to open up to you.
Kindness do come from least expected places.
“Those mercenaries, self-proclaimed heroes, disgusts me. They did the same thing as outlaws, taking lives. But they earn all those praises and adoration? Because of what? The f**king greater good.” Scratch the polite part, Shigaraki is clearly not above using swear words.
“Could you refrain from using vulgar language? You said you are of noble birth; you should know the proper protocol for talking to a monarch. Also, what is your place of birth? Which kingdom are you from?”
“I forsaken my status long ago, right now I’m nothing more then a lowlife. It is only fitting that I act like one. How about you tell me a bit about yourself, little Queen? It’s only fair, and I don’t have anyone to tell.” Cracking a wide smile, Shigaraki took amusement of how you shiver a little. Not so fearless after all, unlike the urban legends.
You do not see any harm in sharing whimsical details about yourself. Just treat him like those irritating distant cousins, you told yourself.
You start by how your grandpapa is a cruel tyrant, but you still love him dearly. How he taught you swordsmanship, riding, cooking simple meals, bandage minor wounds and make a fire in the wild. In between you offered Shigaraki some sweets on the tray, frowned when he only took a pretzel, the least sweet one.
That does not sound like a spoiled upbringing at all. That sounds like how an assassin or soldier was raised. One of his formal guards used to said how hard it was.
“Mr. Shigaraki? Are you feeling alright? Do I need to send for a physician?”
“You’re a funny girl. I think I will give you one clue of my past if you are so eager to learn. Others used to refer me as Tenko.” Shigaraki threw out the bait already, now it is time to wait and see if he can catch the big one. Even if he loses this gamble, this should provide him some entertainment in his final days. A fruitful endeavor either way. You wrote that name down, ready to do research on it.
The gentle knocks on the door reminds you it is time to wrap up this little chat. This is...a lot better than you expected. You cannot help but feel he is charming, in his own twisted, wicked way.
“Is there anything that can improve your stay? A change in meals, perhaps?” Putting the notebook back into your skirt pocket, you fetch up the tea tray and ask.
Look at you, being the good hostess, really care for Shigaraki like a guest. So nice and naïve, it would be a shame if some villain like him to take advantage of that.

Ship(s): Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, background James Potter/Lily Evans
Word Count: 2699
Summary: When Remus finds out Gilderoy is cheating on him, the next thing he has to do is find out who he's cheating with. And if that person happens to be Sirius Black, well, Remus is okay with that. Based off of the joke me and my sister have about Legend of Korra: both of Mako's girlfriends leave him for each other.

Word Count: 2694
Summary: Regulus sighed. “Come on, Sirius, let’s get you off this thing and then you’ll feel better.” They pried Sirius’s hands off the bar and helped him out of the rollercoaster, where he stood for a moment on shaky legs, clutching Regulus’s arm.“I’m going to get some mint chocolate,” he declared once his legs had regained some of their strength, “and then we’re going to the haunted house and I’m getting my revenge.”
Other: A sequel to ice ice baby by @pan-and-ready-to-stan, 90% banter, a LOT of swearing, fluff
would it kill you if we kissed
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Ship(s): Remus/Sirius
Word Count: 1741
Summary: Sirius leaned his head against the window and let his eyes flutter shut. Maybe if he slept, some of the horrible things would go away. Maybe if he slept, he would wake up to find that he was just on a normal road trip with one of his best friends. Maybe if he slept, he could forget the reason he was here at all.
Other: hurt/comfort, and also getting together!! bc I love get together fics :)
(i thought) i knew you
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Ship(s): Remus/Sirius
Word Count: 1432
Summary: Sometimes Sirius thinks that he might be okay. That maybe he’ll make it through this. He’s broken up with people before, hasn’t he? He’s been heartbroken before, and he’s always made it through. He’s survived so many things in his life that it seems silly that this would be the thing to break him.

Other: texting, fluff fluff fluffity fluff, getting together, written for marauders pride fanzine
in a cottage on a cliffside
Rating: General Audiences
Ship(s): Remus Lupin/Sirius Black
Word Count: 2865
Summary: “Are you cold?” Remus asked. “I’ve got another blanket somewhere…” he trailed off, looking at Sirius expectantly. Sirius shook his head.
“I’m fine.” he smiled again, then took another sip of his tea. He made the same face as before. It was adorable.
“Why are you here?” Remus asked. Sirius blinked at him.

James wanted to play quidditch, but the risk of being seen by muggles was too high, and his parents wouldn’t allow it. James was also very stubborn. His parents should have known to keep a closer eye on the boys, but some things can’t be helped. Here is what happened:
Other: written for a discord server secret santa. very marauders friendship focused, but also wolfstar at the end :))

Her
It was like June 2020 when I started playing with Kristine. That was also the time na she got laid off so we got the chance na magkalaro sa game full time. It was also the time na, I slowly opened up to her. Because I have strong walls eh, I do not let people come in my life easily. Since Kristine looks sincere and a listener to me, I gave her the way to get in. I talk about my rants about how my day goes and my relationship status with Joan. There is something about her that makes me want to know her more. There are many things na napagkakasunduan namin that leads to laughing and feeling na magaan lang kausap. I also liked that she is interested in the Game that I am playing, We shared things from the moment she started playing pc games back then, her ex gf's, her dramas in life, her fam, her girlfriend but not too much of it. She shares her problem too, the same goes with me.
Back then, I got curious about Kristine because of the stories that I have heard from Joan about her and her ex-gf and the toxicity of her relationship with Rose.
I admit she got my sympathy. Reminded me of my past relationship and how she handled it. Later on, whenever Kristine goes back here in Manila for a vacation, she always invites us. So I have no choice but to go with Joan though I am way too shy na makihalubilo sa mga tao.
By the first time that I met Kristine she was with her ex-gf Siena. There was nothing special or any thing that I felt. I was just nervous meeting her. Idk. Because I feel like she is intimidating. It was just a stage of knowing her, but she was nice naman. That time I remember Joan blocked her on my fb friend's list because of some reasons that i am not sure of, like Jealousy. Joan is always jealous which make me feel like hindi ako katiwa tiwalang tao. Lol. Grabe lang. And since then, Kristine unblocked me.
Way back 2018, I casually message her, like saying Hi, Hello, a little update of my day, and a little sharing of how me and Joan is doing.
I remember that it was also the time that she is trying to open up about her problems with Siena and so i made a GC where me, Joan and tine are messaging so she will not think too much back in Dubai.
I think she was on the verge of breaking up with Siena?
I have work back then so our exchange of messages was not that constant.
Joan used to rant at Kristine about me and how our life have been, which I do not like. Kasi nahihiya ako na kailangan pa ilabas ang mga bagay bagay na hindi naman dapat. There are times I feel uncomfortable kapag sinasabihan din ako ni Tine about our probs. But i just shrugged it off na lang.
It was also the time that I am focus to Joan too.
'Til Pandemic came. I am so happy may kalaro na ako sa game and that is her. Most of the time we play during afternoons, we also got the chance to try voice call each other on Messenger.
Then there goes the story, we talk a lot, shared a lot and our game time is way fun because she is a good team mate.
She was a good listener. And she understands me. Not all the time she is in favor of me, there are times she helps me understand things.
But most of the time, She makes me feel valid.
August came and Joan celebrated her birthday.
September and I celebrated mine, and I received a gift from her, it was a cake. She told me in Whatsapp that it was for me only. She just made it look like it was also for Joan since she never gave her any present last month.
October came, and I decided to make a surprise for her birthday, I'm talking about Kristine here. And so I did. We call her through VC in Messenger and I greeted her in my Facebook Gaming page, and made an appreciation post for her in my IG, which she really liked.
November came and I broke my thoughts to her. It was my nephew's birthday, Ethan.
I told her through Whatsapp that I liked her. That I liked her back then because of some reasons like, She went through hell in her relationships yet she stood up, etc. and my curiosity ate me.
I told her I might not feel uncomfortable talking to her because she already knew my secret that I like her. Then Kristine said, Bakit naman?
I asked her am I not likeable? She answered me, it's not that I am not likeable, she also said that she knew that I am a good person, and she reminded me that it was wrong. I told her I have no intentions of ruining her and Kamille. I just wanted her to know that I liked her, period.
Then we played a game, shared some secrets and stuff, because I started to trust her na.
Then as days goes by, we play constant and we talk mostly.
She even shared to me the time she went to sleep over with workmates because Kamille and her had an argument. We had our first Video Call in Messenger the next day before she go to work. Send me photos that I asked her too cause I am not seeing her lately.
We still talk even at her work hours, I listen to her work rants and stuff.
Then came an issue of this gaming headset that she wants to give me without malice as claimed by Kristine. Joan did not like the gesture. So, we talked secretly and talk about it. We agreed not to pursue the headset anymore.
December came and yah, we still play. I found out she resigned at her work.
I had an issue with a basher of my page, so I have to deactivate my gaming page and make an investigation who the hell is she.
So my attention draws closer to the game itself and also Kristine. and stop streaming for a while, She decided to install the Global server instead of using Garena for months because she is running out of VPN's to use for free anymore.
I felt like we have this kind of understanding where she gets me. And she agreed. But sometimes she sends me mixed signals.
I came to a point where I became confused.
I felt the need to share this because I am having these "time bomb" like feelings that if I cannot find a way to consult it to other person i am gonna explode and became clingy at her.
So I brought my classmate back in High School named Annarie, who prefers to call herself Pacsy. We play in Garena sometimes and we chat in Messenger too. I shared her my thoughts about Kristine. And I decide to her to be like the observant of the girl I liked if she feels the same way to me.
There are times that I felt jealous whenever there is a guy flirting with her on the game and sometimes she makes me feel that she is jealous too when I do the same.
And then came February, we had an argument.
My thoughts went confused, concern at Pacsy, and at the same time jealous.
Felt bad because we made a promise to each other to be open and not keep secrets. But things fail.
I broke down and cried.
Then came Joan who confronted Kristine, and Pacsy without me knowing it because I was asleep when Joan hacked my phone. I lost all of my phone datas and apps.
And I did not like it. Joan should have talked the proper way but instead choose to hysterical all the time.
She discovered that, there is something between me and Kristine based on our exchange of chats in Messenger.
Since I'm woman enough to admit my fault, I did.
I admit that I fell to Kristine.
Joan blocked her in my Messenger first.
And next is IG.
CODM became an exception.
It was a week of pain and confusion and discoveries.
I have discovered that She admits that she felt the same way for me.
That she doesn't want to lose me too.
That I am important to her, that she thinks of me by the time we lost our communication for like a week and more.
She was the one who initiated a contact.
I knew in my heart she wants it.
Let me just have a detailed flashback:
FEB 17: That night, we played, me, Pacsy and her. Dhanush invited me. I said sorry to them. And Kristine drop this line that it will be the last time she will talk to US. So I distant myself.
FEB 18: It was like 5pm, I called Pacs and I apologized to her of what happened and I cried because of what I feel in my situation. I told her, it was so hard to tell Joan that I fell in-love with her friend.
I asked Pacs not to update Kristine about me anymore because I wanna distant too.
FEB 18: 10:30 PM Pacsy texted me that Ktine asked her a favor to tell me that Joan is attacking her on messenger. I just said, it was noted.
FEB 19: Vertigo attacked me.
FEB 26: I received an XP rewards from Kristine. Just to be clear, giving away XP rewards is customized, you are the one who will choose who to give it to. And with that gesture, I knew in my heart she wants to talk and play with me. The past days Dhanush has been chatting me whenever he is playing with her. I told Dhanush I cant because she does not want to talk to me anymore and I wanna keep my distance too.
FEB 27-28
I played in CODM that night and I message her in the app, and invited her to play. Just a duo. At first she said, "Hi joan." then I told her, "Hindi nuh, hahaha." Then we play both off mic. And I notice she is messaging me while playing and says she misses me. "imy" I asked her "Kumusta" etc. At first I did not want to answer back I miss her too, because I am doubtful that it might be Kamille who's playing, but again, I knew it was her. So I told her, I miss this duo. Then she replied ":(".
Its like we had 2 games only, I said goodbye yet she tried to invite me again for another round for a squad with Dhanush but I have to leave the app and so I did.
FEB 29
We talked in CODM Global server app. We did not play instead we just talked. She told me she created an account in deviantart.com which is a website for artists, I actually have account there for art purposes. However she cant find my account there so I suggest how about Twitter. She opened up to me that day, as I remember, she apologized to me of the things she have done like how she cracked my secret to Joan etc. She said she does not normally say sorry to anyone yet she is doing it for me that day. I asked her if, "hindi ba kapani paniwala kapag ako ang nagsabi na mahal kita?"
She answered, she feels things the same way. She understands that my IG stories was for her mostly, and I claimed it. She told me she was scared to lose communication with me, that sometimes she feels like she's using another person just to get connected at me. And I get what she is saying. She said that she felt something for me.
I am sorry but the words we shared felt like... there is something.
Days have gone by, We played again. However I am hiding it.
I made a letter for her by using a website app. I told her everything there.
We also both made a Twitter account. Obviously, we missed each other.

Worthy Chapter 5: Denial FFXV A/B/O Promnis
<Previous Chapter 4 “You think I’ve what?!” Ignis sputtered over his morning coffee.  “That is preposterous. How on earth did you come up with that, Gladio?” He asked leaning forward over his neat but cluttered desk.
The shield smiled.  “Sana and I were chatting last night, and she mentioned that Prompto may have imprinted on you.”
Ignis was still in shock by the very idea.  He hadn’t heard of an omega imprinting on anyone in years.  “That sounds barbaric,” he uttered finally as he retrieved his phone to open his calendar.
“Clearing your schedule so you can research imprinting, are we?” Gladio asked with a smirk.
Huffing, Ignis rolled his eyes at the shields antics.  “You already know the answer: I must know what I’m dealing with so I can better prepare.”
Gladio furrowed his brow. “Um, what exactly would you be preparing for?”
“If I knew that, Gladiolus, then I wouldn’t need to research, now would I?” Ignis answered curtly.
The shield smiled.  “Will you at least admit you acted differently around Prompto when he was here?”
Pausing and thinking on Gladio’s statement, Ignis did know he’d taken more care than normal in dealing the omega.  “Yes, I will concede that I have been somewhat affected by Prompto’s visit. If my research proves Sana’s theory correct then I will . . . .” Ignis trailed off.
 “Uh – you will what?”
“I will go rescue him from the frozen hell that is Niflheim and share my closet!  Gladio, I don’t know! Go away, I need to work, and you’re filling my head with ideas of domestic bliss.” Ignis huffed.
This statement elicited a bark of laughter from the shield as he stood to leave.  “Fine, I’ll leave you to it, but will you at least let me know what you find out? Honestly, I’m sorta jealous you get to experience this and not me.”
“Come now, Gladio. You and Sana are made for each other.  I know you had a rocky start, but she loves you dearly. She’ll even be moving here in a couple months.  That’s more than I can say for my nonexistent pack.”
“The invite still stands if you want into ours.  Sana thinks you’re cute.”
“I have considered the idea, but I think your pack has the perfect dynamic right now.” Ignis smiled.  “Now get out of my office.” He made a shooing motion in Gladio’s direction in hopes he’d leave.
As he watched Gladio go, Ignis felt a funny feeling tumble through his stomach.  Was he actually getting butterflies thinking about Prompto? He promptly postponed his next meeting and hunkered down at his computer to find out.
     --
“Noct!!” Prompto whined over the phone.  “What am I going to do? I’ve ruined everything.”
“You haven’t ruined anything, Prompto. Stop freaking out.   I swear to you, Ignis isn’t upset. You can still send a reply, and he won’t mind the delay.  I promise,” Noct tried.
“But it’s been two weeks since he sent it!  I was too scared to reply. How dumb is that? He asks if I’m okay, and if I had any trouble, and I ignore him.”
“I’ve known him most of my life, Prompto, and I’m telling you it’s fine.  Send him a text back. He’ll answer you. What’s the worst that can happen?”
The blond couldn’t help himself as he blurted an answer. “He bans you from having contact with me, and I die lonely and depressed.”   Prompto couldn’t help but be dramatic. It’d been two whole weeks since his return from Lucis, and he was missing it every day. It would absolutely gut him to not be able to talk to Noct.  Having a friend helped ease the sorrow of everyday life.
“I’m going to have him call you if you’re not careful, buddy.”
“Wha – No!  I’ll text – I promise, don’t have him call me. I’ll die for sure if he calls me,” he stammered.
“I expect a full report later on what he wrote back.”
Prompto sighed. “Now you are being silly. He won’t answer me.”   He could hear Noct huff. It wasn’t like he understood what life was like as a male omega.  Nothing went your way.
“I’ll remain optimistic for you, then.  Hey, I gotta go; I need to attend some super stuffy council meeting.  Can I call you later when I finish?”
“Yeah, for sure. I’m not going anywhere.”  The call ended as they both said their goodbyes. Now to the matter at hand.  What to write back to Ignis?
Opting to keep it simple Prompto, opened his messenger app to type out a reply. Glancing at the unanswered message from Ignis he winced.  Why did he wait so long! The advisor had only wished to know if he had arrived safely.
Prompto Argentum 10:18AM:          Thank you for checking in on me and I am safe.
Before he could chicken out, he hit the send button.  Tossing the phone further away, he curled up on his bed and groaned.  Why was this so difficult? It was conversation, pure and simple. A pinging noise made him bolt upright and stare incredulously at his phone.   There was no way Ignis had texted him back. It must have been from Noct.
Reaching out slowly as if his phone might bite him, he flipped it over.  A response from      the    Ignis Scientia was waiting.  Prompto’s brain took this moment to spring into action.  What if he was writing back to tell him he was not allowed to talk to Noct anymore?  Fearful of what the text might say, he didn’t open it for another ten minutes.
Finally, though, latching onto Noct’s previous words of encouragement, he took a deep breath and opened the message.
Ignis Scientia 10:20AM:          Excellent. I’m very happy to hear you are safe.  Do let me know if you need anything in the future.
Prompto looked at his phone with wide eyes.  Okay, he’d written back and left it open ended.  Now what? Should he reply? He wished Noct was available so he could ask what to do.  Was Ignis simply being polite or was he supposed to say something?
Shoving his phone away a second time, he got up and started pacing his room.  A full thirty minutes later, he made the decision to answer back.
Prompto Argentum 10:50AM: Thanks I will.  I hope your day is going well.
Again, he hit send quickly and waited.  He knew his chances of having Ignis reply right away were slim, but he still held out hope.   Apparently the astrals were being kind and granted his wish.
Ignis Scientia 10:53AM: Aside from sitting in a dreadfully boring meeting at the moment, my day has been splendid.
Prompto knew from Noct that Ignis usually attended the same meetings as the prince.  Did this mean that Ignis was texting him while he was working? Did the meeting end early? Curiosity got the better of him, and he texted his friend.
Prompto Argentum 10:55AM: Are you still in your meeting?
Noctis Lucis Caelum 10:57AM: Yes, can’t talk yet. :(
Did this mean Ignis was in a different meeting, or was he actually trying to communicate while he was working? Worried his texting would get Ignis in trouble, he wrote back a reply.
Prompto Argentum 11:04AM: Did your meeting get out yet?
Ignis Scientia 11:06AM:          I’m afraid it’s still droning on.  I do have an amusing view; Noctis is struggling to stay awake.  I would send you a photo, but it would blow my cover.
Prompto squealed out loud when he read the response.  Ignis was at the same meeting, but he could text him and Noctis couldn’t!  The blond wondered if it had anything to do with him being an alpha. He would have to ask Noct about it later.
Prompto Argentum 11:07AM: lol I wish I could be there to see it in person.
Surprisingly, Ignis texted him a few more times, and then things went silent.  Either Ignis got in trouble or he needed to focus. Prompto hoped it was the latter.  Ignis was so nice, and he didn’t want him to get reprimanded for texting a lowly omega.
The blond was about to text Noct when heard his mother call him.  Wandering down the hall, he found her staring at a fancy invitation card.
“Dear, do you know who Lady Pravus is?” she asked curiously.
The memories of Noct’s story regarding Lady Pravus, from the night of the banquet, came flooding back.  “Yeah – why?” he mumbled.
His mother seemed shocked that he knew of her.  “I’ve never met her nor heard of her until now. How do you know her name?”
“When I stayed with Noct, he told me about her.  She’s not very nice,” he added quickly.
“Oh, well, you don’t know that for sure,” she chided.  “I’m sure she’s fine. Your step brothers aren’t that bad when it comes to judgement of character.”
This really confused Prompto.  “Mum, what are you talking about?”
“Oh, sorry, I’ve just received this invitation to attend a dinner in celebration of the upcoming engagement for Alban.”
Prompto interrupted his mother, “Alban is going to marry that icky lady?!   Oh no, that’s not good.”
“Prompto!  That is no way to behave when you haven’t even met her.”
“No, believe me, mum. Noct told me stories about her, and she’s a really terrible person.  Alban shouldn’t marry her. Bad things will happen,” he urged. “Please believe me.”
She sighed but maintained a knowing look.  “I will wait to meet her before I pass judgement.  You will have a chance as well, as you’ve been invited to come along.”  Soliamare smiled. “A fancy dress party, how lovely. I do miss going out and getting dressed up.”
He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.  His mum was seriously excited about this evil lady coming to visit.  “When is the dinner?”
“Tomorrow evening.  I must make sure my dress still fits. It’s been so long since I’ve had occasion to wear it.”
Prompto watched his mum turn and happily go to her room to check her closet.  Astrals, this was bad. He had to talk to Noct.
    --
“Specs we have a problem!” Noct hissed as he shoved Ignis into a comfy armchair.  “Remember that horrible woman, Saeva Pravus?”
Ignis visibly grimaced at the mention of her name.  “If she is harassing you in some manner, I shall put a stop to it immediately.”
“No, its worse!” He huffed plopping down on the couch opposite his advisor.  “I spoke with Prompto an hour ago and snaky is trying to marry his stepbrother!”
“Firstly, Noctis I would advise you to refrain  from getting in the habit of using nicknames like that.  You may accidentally let it slip in public. Secondly, which brother?”
“You have to ask?  Alban of course, she wants to be queen.”
“Tell me everything you know,” Ignis requested with a look of determination.
Noct spent the next ten minutes outlining what Prompto had told him. The prince could see Ignis working through all the details as he went along.   Finally, when he’d finished, he waited to hear what his advisor had to say.
“I dare say that is bad news indeed.  You mentioned the dinner was planned for tomorrow evening, correct?”
“Yeah, what are we going to do?”
“Hmmfff, I don’t know that we can do anything at this point, Noct, aside from gather information.”  Ignis stood abruptly and pulled out his phone. “I must go and think on this further. Call me immediately if you hear any additional information.”
“Hey!  What should I tell Prompto?  He’s not sure what to do.”
“Tell him to be very careful, and under no circumstances should he be alone with her.  Do you understand?”
Noct nodded and watched his advisor turn to leave the suite.  He thought back to one of the first times he’d met Lady Pravus.  She’d cornered him several years ago at a party. He shuddered to think what would have happened if Ignis hadn’t saved him.  He didn’t know about her methods for entrapping people then. He’d been too young.
Apparently, she would make a rather forceful advance in private.  Then, depending on what she wanted, she would threaten to accuse her target of sexual misconduct. Heaven help you if you tried to shove her away - that would turn into one hell of a scandal.
He grabbed his phone to call Prompto. The prince wanted to warn him about her tactics.  He didn’t care what happened to King Alban so much, but Prompto didn’t deserve that.
    --
Prompto fidgeted with his cuff as his mother and he walked over to the party.  The main government building didn’t have fancy dining facilities, so most events took place at the great hall inside King Alban’s residence.   He was beyond nervous, especially after what Noct had told him regarding Lady Saeva. His plan was to stay glued to his mother’s side for the whole event.  That way he would be safe.
He wasn’t even sure why he’d been invited; no one really cared if he was there or not.  Then Prompto realized the truth: if he wasn’t there to escort his mother, then one of his icky step-brothers would have to do it.  The real reason behind his presence made his chest ache; his mother didn’t deserve such disrespect.
He’d already tried to persuade his mother to bail, but she was adamant about attending. Prompto knew if he outright refused that she would go alone.  He couldn’t do that to his mother.
The party was in full swing when they arrived, and Prompto could tell some of his step-brothers had started drinking early.  Great, this was going to be interesting. Thank the astrals he didn’t have to sit anywhere near them during dinner. He was even spared having to look at Lady Saeva. She was seated on the same side as Prompto but at the opposite end of the long table.  This didn’t stop his mother from craning her neck to catch a glimpse of the woman that seemed to have stolen Alban’s heart.
Alban stood up at one point to make a boring toast.  He was a terrible speech writer, and Prompto didn’t understand why he never asked for help.  Could someone be so proud that they’d rather look stupid? It was so strange.
Feeling a light pinch to his arm, the blond looked over to his mother.  She had that look - the one that was silently chastising him for ignoring the king.  Attempting to smile, he focused on looking cheerful. Alban stopped rambling shortly after, and Prompto bumped his mother’s arm. “The dinners over. Can we go now?” he whispered.
“No!” she exclaimed.  “I wish to meet Lady Saeva.”
Groaning, Prompto frowned.  “Why, I’ve already told you about her.”
“We’ve been over this already, dear.” Soliamare sighed. “Don’t test me.”
“Fine,” he huffed.  Prompto reluctantly got up and followed his mother as she sought out the future queen.  He had to give his mum credit; she did know how to part a crowd. Trailing in her wake, they were eventually standing in front of Lady Saeva.  She was stunning in person, but Prompto was still scared to even talk to her.
She turned and smiled demurely to his mother.  A useless conversation about dinner followed. Prompto watched in near disbelief as Lady Saeva laid on the charm so thick it was almost suffocating. His mother fell for it hook, line, and sinker.  He assumed she would ignore him as everyone else did. However, she finally turned her attention to him.
The blond could have sworn he saw Lady Saeva’s lip curl ever so slightly.  It was at this terrible moment that he realized Noct forgot to mention one very important fact:  Lady Saeva was an alpha.
 Shit.
He could see her nostrils flaring minutely; she was working to identify his dynamic.  Figures Alban wouldn’t have given her any information before the party. Instead of approaching him to shake his hand, she kept her distance.  It was as if she’d been expecting something else entirely. Lady Saeva was uneasy about something, and Prompto couldn’t figure it out.
Turning towards his mother, Lady Saeva spoke finally. “Oh my, I do need to say goodbye to my friends before they leave,” she announced. “Do forgive me. I’ll find you later and we can finish our talk.” The whole interaction reeked of insincerity.
Trying to calm his nerves was hard as Prompto waited for her to get out of earshot.  “Mum, can we go please?” he pleaded in a hushed tone.
“What? No, I must stay. She wants to talk with me again,” she breathed excitedly.  “Won’t it be nice to have another female around? I am terribly outnumbered these days.”
Prompto bit his lip. He really wanted to grab his mother by her shoulders and tell her that Lady Saeva was lying.  She had found an excuse to leave and took it. There was no intent to come back.
“I must go freshen up while she’s busy.  I’ll be right back,” Soliamare announced.
There was no time to even protest as his mother took off for the powder room.  Suddenly, Prompto felt very anxious. He didn’t want to be here in the first place, and now he was alone.  The idea came to him to hide in the ballroom across the hall. It wasn’t in use for the party, so he could rest in peace.
Scurrying to the corner of the room, he quietly slipped out the door and into the empty space.  Finally, he could breathe. It was dark, but he could still see well enough with the moonlight filtering in through the large windows.
The sound of a door creaking open caused Prompto to turn in a panic. There in the soft light was Lady Saeva.
“I thought I saw you slip in here,” she crooned.  “Come here so I can get a better look at you,      omega    ,” she ordered.
Prompto remained frozen in place.  He didn’t want to go near her, and no manner of influenced alpha speech was going to make him.
“Oh, you’re going to fight me.  I suppose then I’ll have to come to you.”
Finding that his throat had gone dry, Prompto watched her slowly saunter over.  The future queen didn’t stop until she was a few inches from his face.
“I can’t have you disobeying me, omega. That simply won’t do.   When I order you to do something, I expect you to act. Is that understood?”
Surprisingly, Prompto’s brain managed a nonverbal response despite his frozen vocal cords. A small shake of his head shook his blond locks.
“Oh, a rebel.  How cute,” she breathed.  “It doesn’t matter. I will break you, omega, and I will enjoy every second.  Perhaps I’ll start right now,” she mused.
Prompto heard the rustle of fabric, and then something pointy was being held to his stomach. He was too scared to look down, but he was pretty sure it was a knife.
“Now hold still while I see what you taste like,” she hissed as she leaned forward to sniff his neck.
A small strangled noise left his mouth, but he didn’t dare push her away.  She could easily stab him in his gut and claim he’d been the one to make an advance.  Then a door slammed, and Lady Saeva backed away immediately, hiding her knife once more.
She turned to face whoever had come in.  “Who’s there?” she demanded.
Prompto didn’t wait to find out and bolted.   He couldn’t hear anything aside from his beating heart as he rushed out of the room.  If Lady Saeva called after him, he didn’t hear it. He needed to go, but he had to find his mother first.
Soliamare was waiting just outside the main dining room, looking for Lady Saeva no doubt.  “Oh, there you are,” she said cheerfully as he approached. However, when Prompto was closer, she furrowed her brow in concern.  “Dear heart, what has happened to you? You’re shaking and have gone pale as a ghost.”
“I –I don’t feel good, mum, can we please go home?  I might throw up,” he added, hoping it would make her act.  Luckily, it did, and within minutes he was tightly gripping his mother’s arm and walking back home.  He had so much to tell Noct, but what could his friend do to help? He was a kingdom away and had his own duties to handle.
Maybe he could lock himself in his room until this was all over, though he suspected his mother wouldn’t allow it.   His mother ended up making him tea and sitting with him on the couch. He felt safe right then, but he was terribly concerned it wouldn’t last.  He hadn’t breathed a word of what had happened, but he worried his mum wouldn’t believe him anyway. Instead, he tried to calm down and eventually drifted off clinging to her.
    --
“He’s an omega!  Why wasn’t I informed?” Saeva hissed as she paced Alban’s sitting room.  “I refuse to marry you with him in residence.”
“Why? He’s harmless,” Alban defended.  “What are you afraid of?”
“That blond haired brat could bear a child and threaten your claim to the throne!  I won’t allow that to happen.”
“What, Prompto have kids?  Nah, he’s not even got a mate.”
Saeva looked offended.  “Astrals, that’s worse. He could produce bastard children left and right.  Do you want an omegan whore associated with your family name? I would think not.  You must deal with this.”
“How exactly should I ‘deal’ with it?” he huffed.  “If I sent him away would that make you happy?”
“He’d still be out there, and he could come back anytime to threaten your title.”
“He’s thirteenth in line, Saeva. Even if he had kids, they wouldn’t ever be near the throne!”
“That’s not true! If none of your other idiotic brothers wed and we don’t conceive, then one of his offspring could inherit.  That is unacceptable. I will not let your royal name be sullied by his likes.”
“I still don’t know what you want me to do about it.” Alban frowned.  “What’s left? Death? Don’t you think that’s a bit harsh?”
Saeva narrowed her eyes at Alban.  “I won’t marry you unless he’s gone . . . unless you’re too much of a coward to deal with that sort of thing,” she replied innocently.
“I’m no coward,” Alban shouted.  “I’ll figure something out.”
“Good.  Now, I’ve got a splitting headache, and I wish to retire early.  Lunch tomorrow, love?” She smiled sweetly.
Alban grinned and bowed as she left. Now to figure out what to do about Prompto.
     --
“Are you certain he didn’t see you?” Ignis asked for a second time.
“Yes, positive.  No one saw me; I’m trained to not be seen,” Nyx replied as he leaned forward in his chair.
Ignis sat at his desk in deep thought.  Nyx’s report had been very disturbing; Lady Saeva had made an open threat against Prompto.  He had to work fast. Things were in motion that he had little control over. “She said that she’d break him?”
“Yeah, it was grade A creepy shit, Ignis.  I had to work hard not to warp over and stick her with my dagger.”
“I would have found a way to make it work,” Ignis pondered quietly.
“I wasn’t sure what was going to happen after I slammed the door, but blondie took the cue and ran away like greased lightning.  I made sure to follow him and the queen back home. They made it safely.”
“Nyx, I am eternally grateful for your help in this matter, and I fear what Lady Saeva’s next step might be.  We may need to act in a slightly unorthodox method to combat her,” Ignis admitted.
“I’m all for unorthodox; sign me up.” Nyx grinned.

⁂ Lookin’ Cool (Weiming Shen)
Tumblr media
Genre: Friendship, Comedy, Slice of Life, Fluff ☁
Word Count: 2,528 ☁
Pairing: Reader, Weiming ☁
World: The Prince of Tennis – Match! Tennis Juniors ☁
Prompt: This from @write-it-motherfuckers
Author’s Note: This is my first time writing for Chinapuri and I am honestly nervous about how people will view this lol Honestly, I’m mainly concerned with the names because I’m not sure how the Chinese do their names, if it’s like Last Name First Name or reversed, or if people use first names or the full name. Anywho~ I hope you enjoyed this!
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
You paced the locker room anxiously, waiting for tennis practice to conclude. Your anxiety had been steadily building all day, so much so that you couldn’t even bring yourself to each lunch. Chen was also feeling nervous, but at least he had tennis practice to keep his mind busy. You, on the other hand, tried watching practice, reading a book, and even working on your homework, but nothing has held your attention.
A groan passed your lips as you fell onto the bench. ‘Maybe I should have picked up an after school club. I wonder if the manga club is still accepting members…’
The door swung open, Jing and Xiuwen pausing in the doorway when they noticed you.
“Why are you in here?” Jin made a face. “You’re not on the team, you’re not supposed to be in here.”
You rolled your eyes. “It’s not like you have trade secrets for me to steal.” Pausing for dramatic effect, you tapped your chin and narrowed your eyes at them. “Or do you? Maybe I should have a look around. After beating Yu Feng, lots of people are looking at Yu Qing. I bet that info’d sell for top yuan!”
Xiuwen gasped dramatically. “You wouldn’t!”
With a smirk, you rested your chin between your thumb and index fingers, striking a pose. “Oh, I would!”
Jing opened his mouth to reply when a monotone voice came from behind him. “You’re in the way, can you move?”
Stepping away from the door so Lu Xia could enter the locker room, Jing sent you a glare. “Out, Y/N!”
“Yeah, yeah.” You rolled your eyes again, grabbing your school bag before leaving the room. Chen was just rounding the corner, nearly knocking into you. “If you take too long, I’m going to leave without you.”
He scoffed. “Yeah right. You’d fall apart without me there.”
“In your dreams!” You huffed, continuing down the hallway. Not that you’d ever admit it out loud, but you knew he was right. Even with the thought of Chen being there to keep you from acting too stupid, you still felt like a bundle of frayed nerves. If he wasn’t going, you would probably just ditch the meeting and go home.
Lost in thought, you ran straight into Siyang and Zhi as they stepped into the building.
“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.”
Siyang nodded, voice monotone. “Be more vigilant, Y/N.”
You sweatdropped at his attitude. “Right…”
Zhi chuckled, resting his hands on your shoulders. “You’re pretty tense. Is everything okay?”
‘He’s got that glint in his eye. Nothing good ever happens when he looks like that…’ You forced a smile, pushing his hands away. “Perfectly fine! Just didn’t get much sleep last night.”
His lips twitched up. “Oh yes, Qiao Chen mentioned something about you having a bad dream.”
‘That son of a – I’m gonna kill him! Of all the people to tell…’ Your eye twitched and you struggled to keep up the fake smile. “A-Ah yeah. I really need to get go -”
“Wait,” Yan appeared out of nowhere, hand on your shoulder to keep you in place. “If you’re experiencing nightmares, try drinking this. It will help.”
You stared at the bottle of green, bubbling liquid and your stomach turned. “You know, I would, but uhh… it’s against my religion?”
Yan tilted his head to the left, not pulling the bottle from your face.
“Hm? Aren’t you an atheist, Y/N?” Zhi questioned, smirking when you sent him a glare.
“What’s going on -”
As soon as you saw Chen, you grabbed his arm and bolted from the building, not sparing the three a single glance. He protested as you dragged him all the way to the school gate, huffing when you finally came to a stop.
“Aren’t you just a bit too excited?” he teased.
“You’re one to talk. Still hearing music when you see Xingzi?”
His cheeks darkened and he punched your shoulder lightly. “Shaddup,”
You started down the street away from the school with Chen at your side. “Ha! What a loser,”
“You dreamed about Weiming last night but I’m the loser?”
It was your turn for your cheeks to darken. “Don’t say it like that, idiot, you make it sound dirty! Also,” you suddenly brought your arm back, punching him in the spleen.
“W-What the hell -?!”
“That was for telling Zhi about my dream!”
“I didn’t!”
“How did he know then? He may be a genius but he’s not psychic.”
“I only mentioned it to Lu Xia and Mu!” He scowled.
“You told Mu?!” You cried out, stopping to stare at him incredulously. “He can’t keep his mouth shut to save his life. Everyone he meets knows his business.”
“Mentioned,” he stressed. “I mentioned it, not told.”
“Same thing!”
“It’s not the same thing!”
“Ahem,”
Both your and Chen’s attention snapped to Xingzi who stood nearby with Weiming and Yiwu on either side of her. She was smiling in amusement, but the two boys didn’t seem happy to see the two of you. Though, in the short time you’ve known Yiwu, you’ve never even seen him smile, so that didn’t mean much.
You and Chen exchanged sheepish glances before you cleared your throat in an attempt to fight the embarrassed blush that was trying to rise up to your face.
“It’s supposed to rain,” Xingzi commented with a smile. “We should hurry to the park so we can play at least one game.” She then turned, continuing down the road with both boys following close behind.
“Che,” Chen clicked his tongue, stuffing his hands into his pockets. “Why do they always have to be so close to her?”
You frowned at their backs, copying his stance. “I don’t know, but I hate it.”
“Me too,”
Xingzi glanced over her shoulder, noticing that neither of you had moved and she waved her arm in the air. “Guys, come on!”
Yiwu mumbled something to Weiming, which made his eyes snap to yours. You quickly dodged his gaze by speeding up and passing the three. A light breeze ruffled your clothes, offering a small break from the summer heat, and the sinking sun was slowly being covered by light grey clouds.
Only a couple people were at the street court when your group arrived and they were packing up their things to leave.
Xingzi pulled out her pink racket and grinned. “So, who’s going first?”
You and Chen exchanged a look. No matter what, you didn’t want to be paired with your crush and you knew that he was thinking the exact same thing. As if it had been rehearsed, the two of you suddenly pointed at one another and chorused, “Chen/Y/N can go first!”
She giggled. “Why not play some doubles? Yiwu and Weiming versus Y/N and Chen!”
Without hesitation, Chen agreed, his face lighting up like a puppy that had just gotten attention from its master. “Great idea!”
You glared at your best friend, resisting the urge to punch him again. Thunder grumbled overhead and you glanced up at the darkening sky. ‘Even mother nature thinks this is a bad idea…’ You headed to the far end of the court, dropping your school bag onto the bench. Although you knew how to play tennis, it wasn’t something you genuinely enjoyed doing often. You knew you wouldn’t be able to hold a handle to the two boys who played tennis regularly and you were just going to make yourself look like an idiot again.
Chen bumped your shoulder as he stopped beside you, dropping his tennis bag next to your own. “Don’t worry, we got this!”
You scoffed. “I’ve never even played doubles before, but I bet our coordination is complete trash.”
“Me and Lu Xia figured it out!”
“Hardly! All you did was play singles together.”
“Maybe, but it worked.” He threw his arm around your shoulder. “This is our chance to impress our crushes! Besides,” he glanced up as another grumble of thunder passed overhead. “It’ll rain long before the game ends.”
You pulled your racket from the bag, running your fingers across the smooth surface, painted your favorite color. Taking a deep breath, you tried to steel your resolve. “Fake it ’til you make it, huh?”
“Right!” He grinned. “Let’s do this!”
Yiwu and Weiming were already on the court waiting. You took position at the back of the court and as soon as Chen was in position, Yiwu threw the ball into the air, smacking it toward you. You recognized it instantly – twist serve.
Chen just barely managed to dodge before it hit his face.
‘Twist serve, huh? They’re not holding back.’
As he prepared to serve again, you suddenly remembered the match that you had watched the night before with your uncle. The pro, Xi Yangwi, was a twist serve specialist while his opponent and childhood friend, Jang Yilong, had learned fancy tricks in order to counter it. One of the best counters, in your opinion, was the takeout. Yilong would move to intercept the ball with his face before pulling back at the last possible second, doing a spin before returning it backhanded. It always had the crowd going wild when he used it.
‘If I can pull off that move, I bet Weiming would be so impressed.’
Yiwu served again and you rushed forward, nearly knocking into Chen as he tried to hit the ball.
“Y/N -”
“I got it!” You threw yourself in the direct trajectory of the ball. You saw it heading for your face and you sent orders to the rest of your body, but it seemed as if the messenger was too pre-occupied to deliver them – you couldn’t possibly react in time. You heard your name being called, but with the blood pumping in your ears, you couldn’t tell who had said it.
The ball smacked into your face like a ton of bricks, the world spinning rapidly around you as you fell backward onto the court, pain shooting through your face. Chen’s head appeared above you, blocking your blurred view of the sky.
“Y/N! Are you okay?”
“I don’t get it…” you muttered to yourself, voice nasally from the damage to your nose.
He grabbed your shoulder and forced you into a sitting position. Yiwu and Weiming had approached the net, watching the two of you closely. Xingzi stepped onto the court and gasped. “You’re bleeding!”
You reached up to touch your face, feeling thick, warm blood on your fingertips. Upon doing so, a sharp pain shot through your face. “Motherfuking tap-dancing satan on a bagel, that hurts!”
“Then why the hell did you do it?” Chen scowled.
Xingzi pulled a towel from her bag before returning to your side. “Here,”
You took it with a grimace, carefully holding it under your nostrils to soak up the blood. “I thought it looked cool…” you mumbled, tilting your head toward the sky. The light gray clouds had turned dark, thunder roaring loudly overhead to act as a warning. A moment later, rain was blanketing the earth, the drops sending waves of pain through your face every time they landed on your nose.
Chen helped you to your feet, bringing you over to the awning that covered one of the benches. It did little to block the rain, especially with the wind blowing.
“We should take you to the hospital,” Xingzi frowned, brushing her wet hair away from her face. “Your nose might be broken.”
At the mention of a hospital, your nose instinctively wrinkled, causing you to wince in pain. It honestly hurt like a bitch, but you were positive that it wasn’t broken and you hated hospitals. You pulled the towel away from your nose and swiped your fingers under your nostrils. It was still bleeding, but it had already slowed down. “No, I’m okay.”
Chen exchanged a look with her before taking wrapping his arm around your own. “Come on, I’ll help you home.”
“You live in the opposite direction,” you muttered, pulling your arm away from his. “I’m fine, really.”
“Weiming lives in the same direction,” Xingzi commented, turning her gaze to him. “Can you make sure Y/N gets home safe?”
Your cheeks burned at the thought and you were thankful that your skin was already discolored from the injury. “Ah, no! It’s really okay, I don’t want to trouble him.”
“He’s right here, you know.” Weiming rolled his eyes, returning his racket to his bag before swinging it over his shoulder. “Let’s go before the rain picks up.”
Chen stopped him, expression deadly serious. “You better take care of Y/N.”
“I don’t need you to tell me that.” Weiming scoffed, sending him a hard look. The expression softened when he turned his attention to you, his slender fingers gently wrapping around your upper arm.
You said nothing as you walked at his side, the rain helping to keep you cool despite how hot your face was. The first few minutes passed by in silence and you were in the middle of having an internal debate over whether or not you should try to strike up a conversation when he spoke up.
“Don’t do that again.”
“Eh?” You blinked dumbly, surprised that he had actually broken the silence.
He glanced at you before turning his attention forward again. “Whatever stunt you were trying to pull, don’t do it again.”
You lowered your head, fist clenching around the towel. This made your nose throb but you were thankful for the distraction. “Yeah… I won’t.”
He continued as if he didn’t hear you. “Why would you try such a risky move? You know you’re not even that good at tennis. The fakeout is a pro-level counter.”
You winced at his harsh words and the bite of his tone. “I know I suck, you don’t have to rub it in…”
“That’s not -” Weiming paused, his fingers tightening so you’d stop walking. “Look at me, Y/N.”
You forced your eyes to meet his and nearly melted where you stood. Why did he have to be so damn attractive? Even more so with the way his hair clung to his face, water dripping down his skin.
“- that’s why.”
You blinked, realizing he had been speaking for several moments and you hadn’t heard a word of it. “Um… can you repeat that, please?”
He sighed deeply before taking you by the shoulders. “I didn’t mean it the way that came out. I just don’t want to see you get hurt again.”
Warmth flooded your body as your heart fluttered within your breast. His concern was touching and you felt happy knowing he actually cared about what happened to you. You offered him a gentle smile. “I promise I’ll be more careful. Thank you, Weiming.”
His eyes scanned your face before he nodded and released you. “Good,”
The rest of the walk was silence, accompanied by the pitter-patter of the rain, but that was okay. You now knew that he did care about you and, even though that was probably just on the friendship level, it was a start. For now, you were content just walking by his side.
Your nose might disagree, but you were happy that you had been hit.

It would be a day’s long journey on horseback to ascend the mountain.  When night fell, the two would camp.  Camping inside a nearby cave up the path, the horses and men rested.  Taehyung only freeing himself of a few pieces of armor.  Sitting around the fire of sticks and stones, Hoseok basked in the pulsing crackling warmth.  Hoping his haori would take in said warmth through the night- wanting to weave it into the very fabric of the piece hanging on his shoulders.
Waking at dawn they head further up the mountain.  The closer they got towards the peak, the wider the terrain became.  Hoseok noticed stone statues and white talisman and ribbon taped and tied around and onto tree trunks and limbs.  Enclosing further up sacred ground.
Ideally, demons shouldn’t be allowed passaged on sacred ground- the purity intoxicating to a lethal degree.  With grounds endowed with protective mantras and barriers to keep the wicked out.  Though, if not strong enough or long abandoned by their priest, priestess, monk, God, what have you- the spiritual power would weaken considerably.
Before long, the two breached the crowded forest and stood before the first torii gate leading to the long approach of a shrine.
“According to himself, the man was injured and attacked further in,” Taehyung announced before he jostled his stallion onward through the torii.  Hoseok rarely visited shrines, rejecting most Gods’ people pondered on or prayed too.  He stood without religion, so he wasn’t familiar with shrine setups if he were being honest.
Passing under the second torii he could catch a glance at the main shrine. Throughout the approach and beyond it, the lack of up-keep began to show more and more.
The sacred fence was frozen with ice and snow, the long approach road of gravel and stone coated with winter.  The front worship hall was beaten and aged with poor conditions.  Hoseok could only imagine the state of the main sanctuary past the inner fence that use to supposedly house a God.  Even the so-called sacred forest littered with previous evergreens was baren with winter stripped limbs.
What God dwelled here before has long since left his shrine to decay into the mountainside.
“Go look around the sanctuary.  I’ll scope around the approach further and check the shrine office. Tie your horse and continue on foot,” Taehyung instructed, lifting himself off his stallion as Hoseok left the back of his mare.  Tying the steeds down to any firm part of the fence they could, the two broke off to search.
Hoseok grimaced at the overwhelming feeling of demonic tension that hung in the air like a bad fragrance.  It made him on edge as each snow crunched step he took was guarded. A constant, ready hand on the hilt of his single in-use blade.  The kitsune statues that looked over and acted as messengers were broken and eroded: a bad omen if Hoseok ever believed in one.  It was as if a demon could appear from anywhere at any time.
Hoseok walked and inspected as instructed.  Scoping out anywhere for any sign of a righteous demon woman.  He couldn’t even find footprints in the snow to indicate anyone had been here recently besides himself.  Perhaps she’s moved locations by now.
Eventually, Hoseok met back up with Taehyung of whom also turned up empty-handed when it came to any possible clues to locate the demon in question.  Both men decided to stay inside the abandoned shrine for the night, tying the horses down at the main hall to keep them close and under shelter, in case more snow should fall throughout the night.
If nothing that could be of use to their objective could be found soon, they’d leave the mountain.  There would be no use in staying if there is nothing to keep them there.  If they were to go back empty-handed, Taheyung- as the acting superior warrior- would settle any following action that may be hurled at them in a negative manner.
Through the evening, the tense, thick air never lessened and the silent, uneventful atmosphere remained just that: silent and uneventful. Taking to the inside of the sanctuary as night began to fall, both experienced fighters reeled in their tense shoulders for a sliver of sleep.
Dead of night, Hoseok was forced out of restless sleep.  The demonic intensity plaguing his unconsciousness with nightmare after nightmare.  The sweat beading along his brow and the heat flashing between hot and cold along his skin made any further sleep a high impossibly and hopeless wish. Deciding to forego a time of sitting in an uneasy relaxation, Hoseok moved to leave the sanctuary to walk the perimeter once again just to make time tick by faster- albeit just barely- and hopefully clear his head.
Stepping outside, the snow had deepened to the point when he took a step, it hit nearly half the length of his shin.  Hiking up his legs to take solid steps and drag his feet through the snow, he moved aimlessly.  The shrine looked far more sinister in the nighttime than it did dilapidated in the daylight. The air was stagnant in its chill as the moon overhead became partially covered when clouds of swiped shape spotted over.
Maybe it was just the instinct in the back of his mind due to his everyday task of taking down demons, but he began to believe he should’ve brought his sword out with him. Instead, they both sat inside beside where he once lay in the room with Taehyung.
Stopping his trekking around in the snow, he turned to go back and stay inside the shrine until the chill running in circles on his spine simmered.  He was three steps retreated when something slammed into his back. It wasn’t just an object that an animal may have tossed from the tree top; no.  What hit into his back was alive and when he fell chest first into the deep snow, he felt it remain on top of him.
He felt it sit on his back, it’s feet pushing into the back of his thighs and it’s hand pushing on the center of his back and neck.  He heard growling and hissing from behind him as he pushed his head back to lift his face out of the snow.  Looping his arms behind his back, he grabbed the wrists of whatever was on him and lifted their hands off him just enough for him to gain ground.
Having mobility of his head- his neck now free- he pushed his forehead into the packed snow and forcefully twisted his hips to toss the thing off his back just enough to knock it off-balance.  Hearing it hit against the snow in a series of snowy crunches, Hoseok quickly lifted himself up out of the snow, now on his knees as he shoved the wrists away from him completely.
Leaning back to gain more ground, Hoseok hissed at the sight of the demon leering at him.  Shaking his head at the lack of a weapon, he had come to see the small hatchet lodged into the ribcage of the demon.  Hanging there and moving with each jerked breath, along with a fresh leakage of ooze that seemed far too dissimilar to blood.  The color was green and dim- thicker than the average human blood.
The demon itself was far beyond all comprehension.  It was hardly human-like, thin and sickly to the eyes like a walking skeleton.  Arms long and when hanging hitting their knees, it’s fingertips hidden in snow as the demon remain kneeled.  Legs like a spider, thin and spindly, it was shocking it held the bones above it. The face was demented and pulled back, eyes sunken in and mouth wide and more of that like a snake.
By the looks of the monster, it was already close to death.  All Hoseok had to do was find a way to yank the hatchet from its ribs and lop off its head and it would be all over for it.  He had no doubt it would eventually wither away and die afterward. It was the only chance he had if he wanted to get back inside without leading the demon back to Taehyung’s sleeping body.
Standing off with the demon as it twitched and growled, it’s pulled back skin and lips showing the rotten, carnivorous teeth that were no doubt ready to tear into Hoseok’s neck. There was silence before a pile of snow slipped from a tree limb and landed in a mound on the ground before the demon lept without consciousness leading its way.
Lunging forward, Hoseok rolled and stepped around in the high snow the best he could manage.  Tucking his knees up in a roll, he spun around the body of the front buried demon who missed in its leaping attack.
Spinning around its skeletal back, Hoseok lay in the snowbank, his back sinking in it as he pulled his knees to his chest.  Feet flexed and flat, he stomped his heels into the demon’s back; feeling its ribs vibrate and move under the sheer force of his stomping.
Rolling back up, he took advantage of the momentary distraction of the demon due to Hoseok’s back stomping, he reached from around the long eerie arms of the demon to grasp the handle of the hatchet.  Taking a breath through his teeth, he yanked the hatchet backward and ripped it harshly out of the ribcage of the demon.
The piercing shriek of the demon’s sudden gash in its chest vibrated the air.  Screaming like a woman turning ghost, Hoseok could only focus on the green blood coated on the cold hatchet blade.  The scream blurring his vision and throwing his balance.  The wooden handle of the hatchet was lightly frosted as his warm skin melted the frost; damping the wood.
The demon whirled, swinging its arms without hazard, angered and disturbed at Hoseok’s infliction upon it.  In those unaimed, meddling whirls of arm swings, Hoseok successfully avoided and even lopped off one of the demon’s arms.  Cutting it off with a swing of his newfound hatched at the elbow, the arm fell into the snow with a dull crunch as it continued twitching despite its removal from its body.
The demon howled once again. It’s anger and desperation to kill Hoseok spiking.
It was instant when the demon pinned Hoseok’s shoulders into the snow as he somehow found himself on his back again, sinking into the white of winter.  Demon face to face with the hunter as it screamed into his face, making him wince- the cold on his skin the only thing keeping him from losing his consciousness.
The severed arm leaked large, disgusting blobs of green, sick blood as it bled into the snow beneath Hoseok, tainting it.  It shrieked once more, Hoseok feeling it in his bones before all was silent once again.  The demon vanished.
Gaining his senses and realizing the demon was no longer on top of him, he felt the hatch being ripped from his grasp.  He gasped as he sat up, watching the back of someone else run off ahead.  Rushing towards the body of the demon who was suddenly lying in the snow several feet away.
Thrashing around like a headless dog, it found its way to its feet as it became ever more feral.  Thrashing and screaming like a mindless husk, the new body nimbly avoiding any and all spastic movements aimed their way.
Hoseok watched the back of the- what he can only assume was a defender- as they moved cleanly around and through everything.  He wasn’t sure how it happened, but with every single correct movement, restriction of the only attached arm left, and a swing of the hatchet, the demon’s head rolled down it’s back and into the snow.  Facedown in a mouth open scream that would never sound again.

 Part 14
Summary: Mallory is searching for answers. Michael is searching for his path. They both find each other.
Author’s note: Context, context, context!!! I’ve never been more nervous about a chapter. lol. This monster might confuse you, especially if you didn’t spend hours researching the Salem Witch Trials in both history and AHS canon. This is deep cut stuff. If it’s wanted, I can answer any questions on who or what an event or person is, or whatever. It’s mostly the first part, so after you get through that you should be in the clear. Hopefully it’s explained well enough to not be confusing. I know you guys are smart, I’m just anxious about where this takes things. I want it to be interesting and evident how it’s relevant to the story. But enough rambling. Let’s find out what Michael and Mallory find out about themselves and each other! never

A lone woman, a refugee from her broken home, found herself weeping in a dingy motel room in the city. She was pregnant, the catalyst for her ostracization from her abusive parents. She didn’t know where to go or what to do. She’d stolen cash from her father’s wallet and run away. The guy who’d gotten her pregnant had hit the road the moment she told him, and she couldn’t afford an abortion. She’d decided to make her deathbed the ugly, stained spring mattress of the motel room. Her face was wet, her fingers trembling as she poured out a bottle of pills in her hand.
A burst of white light shot through the room. The woman screamed, dropping everything and backed up against the wall, staring as this light took on a humanoid shape.
“Do not be afraid, Agatha.”
The voice was gentle, it sounded as if it came from everywhere and nowhere at all.
“Who are you?”
The light hovered closer.
“Do not be afraid to bring forth this child.”
Agatha felt a warmth caress her belly like a hand.
“I have set aside this child for a great purpose. You shall give birth to a daughter, and upon her 18th birthday she shall become pregnant, through no will of man, but by mine. And her child shall be my chosen one, who will save this world from destruction.”
She gawked at the message, doubts and fears assailing her.
“How can I possibly take care of this child? I have nowhere to go!”
Tendrils of light spread about, “Take no care as to how you will be provided for; behold, lilies of the valley neither toil nor sow, and kings are not clothed like one of them.”
Agatha crawled closer, enraptured. She reached out her hand to touch the light, electricity buzzing on her fingers.
“All right,” she answered breathlessly, “I’ll do what you say.”
The light faded, leaving Agatha in blissful assurance that all would be well.
When she took a shower that night, she noticed a new mark on her body, like raised scar tissue.
A single star over her heart.
1692
Sarah Good was among the first to fall in the Salem Witch Trials. She was a homeless, pregnant beggar despised by the community; she was tried and imprisoned, leaving behind her husband and 4 year old daughter Dorothy, who was also taken into custody upon suspicion of witchcraft. After the 4 year old was released, the trauma she suffered left her unable to function and she spent the rest of her life as an invalid. Her mother meanwhile, gave birth in prison to her sister Mercy; but the newborn died mere hours after her birth, then Sarah was led to the gallows and hung declaring to her judge and executioner, Judge Matthers, “God will give you blood to drink.”
Heartbroken and desperate, Sarah’s husband begged the newly risen Supreme of the escaping witches to raise his daughter back to life and give her a chance to live freely. She agreed, bringing the newborn back to life. Mercy Good was given into the care of Hephzibah Green and her young daughter Jescha, and was renamed Mara, meaning bitterness. The witches escaped, leaving the horrors of Salem behind. Years passed and justice for Sarah Good was left undone…
25 years later
The town of Salem, Massachusetts lay sleeping under the pale moon, its people having put away their business for the day and said their nightly prayers for protection over their souls during the night.
All except for Judge Matthers, who sat at his desk by the candlelight working into the late hours. He stifled a yawn, dipping his quill in the ink pot.
A noise disturbed him. Something against the window. He inspected the origin of the disturbance, seeing and hearing nothing else. He had just made it back to his desk when the front door swung open with a loud bang. The old man jumped and stilled his heart, shuffling over to close the door.
“Working late into the night, Your Honor?”
He turned, startled at the new voice. A young woman in her mid twenties stood in his home, dark eyes flashing with rage.
She lifted her hand, “Detendo.”
His body was thrown against the wall, his limbs gluing to the wooden surface, paralyzed. He couldn’t make a sound.
The woman strolled toward him, “Dost thou remember a woman by the name of Sarah Good?”
His mind raced back to a gallows, a fiery, deranged woman he’d condemned as a witch.
She continued, “The woman you hung 25 years past in your self-righteousness?”
She stepped closer, “I am her daughter.”
His eyes widened in terror.
She gave him a malicious chuckle, “Aye, the one pronounced dead when you showed my mother no compassion. I hath returned from the grave to exact her prophecy upon thee. Innocent blood you spilt, but in thine own sin-cursed blood shall ye drown.”
She reached into her cloak, whispering, “Patentibus.”
His mouth opened without his consent. He started shaking.
She held up a closed fist to his face, “Behold the vengeance of Almighty God, Most Honorable Judge, and the vengeance of Mercy Good.”
She opened her hand, blowing a white powder into his mouth. He coughed violently, his body trembling harder as she waved her hand to drop him to the floor. Blood poured from every orifice, his skin turning a disgusting gray as his blood splattered all around him before he collapsed dead. She spat on his corpse and left the Judge’s home, slipping away without a trace.
_____________________
Jescha confronted her upon her return. Mara hung their clothes on the line, her adopted sister asking, “Where wast thou really?”
She didn’t look up from her work, “Repaying a life for a life.”
“Hast thou no regard for your own safety?” She scolded.
“Not since my birth hath the town known me, and even then presumed dead.”
She crossed her arms, “Thou canst not put the coven in such danger.”
She looked up at her, shrugging, “I have not. No man recognized me and I did not use my given name. All is well, justice has been done.”
She huffed, stepping beside her to help her finish her chores, “Some justice shouldst be left unto the Lord.”
Mara nodded, “‘Twas if I be His messenger.”
“Beware of pride, Mara. Lest thou think thyself too important.”
“I have thee to blame. Thou hast told me I am special.”
She smiled, “And ye are. Thou art also as stubborn as the ass of Balaam.”
She bumped her, “Aye, but the stubbornness of the ass twas the Lord’s will.”
Mara had no desire to become Supreme; she was happy to spend her days tending her garden and living in peace, despite both Jescha and Hephzibah’s insistence. She did eventually attempt The Seven Wonders at their behest, only to fail the very last.
“T’would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed,” Jescha told her after the tests as they sat by the river.
She laughed, “Should I take that as compliment or criticism?”
“Both.”
“Why?” She skipped a rock, “If I am not the Supreme, then I am not the Supreme.”
Her sister pouted, “I had such faith that ye were.”
“And why hast thou not attempted the Seven Wonders? Go and show thyself to be the Supreme.”
She balked, “If thou couldst not do it, then surely I cannot. I am merely a garden witch.”
Mara feigned offense, “Careful of thy words, I am merely a garden witch.”
She leaned her head into the crook of her neck, “No, not merely. You are among the most powerful of our coven.”
Mara patted her, “Thou art just as essential as I. Providence will grant you great things, dear Jes. I’m sure of it.”
“As I am sure of you, Mara.”
The two women continued in their happy states. Jescha eventually moving away, marrying into a rich family. Meanwhile, Mara’s descendants continued the line of powerful witches. Until a girl was born with the power of special connection to the spiritual world, claiming communication with the entity most commonly called God. This woman’s name was Agatha, who did give birth to a daughter she named Leah. And according to Agatha’s predictions, Leah did become pregnant at 18 years old, though no one ever knew who the father was. And Leah gave birth to a beautiful baby girl she named Mallory.
_____________
Mallory sat on her grandmother’s knee, listening to her story. When she got to the end, Mallory clapped gleefully, “That’s me!”
Agatha ran her fingers through her granddaughter’s hair smiling wistfully, “That’s right, Mallie. Grandma knew you would be born even before she had mama.”
“Do I have magical powers?” She wondered in awe.
Agatha cupped her face, “You have more power than anyone, Mallie. You have the blood of Salem and the heritage of divinity.”
She bit her lip excitedly, “Do you still have the star?”
“No, but you do, don’t you?”
She nodded, “Mama says it’s a birthmark.”
“It is. It’s a very special birthmark. It’s a sign that you are gonna save this world one day, Mallie.”
Leah and Mallory’s stepfather found them sitting out in the garden, dragging a pouting Mallory from Agatha to go home. Leah would always try and undo her mother’s damage, telling Mallory that her grandma was senile and delusional. But to Mallory, she was the only one who understood her, the only one who confirmed the deep sense of destiny she’d felt even as a little girl. She especially became a safe haven when Mallory turned 13 and was found levitating in her bed by her stepfather. Her parents dragged her to several priests as more powers manifested; the ability to manipulate fire, psychic visions, disappearing and reappearing, etc. They believed she was worshiping the devil or possessed by a demon. Mallory was forced to endure several painful exorcisms, her powers manifesting in the middle of them due to her emotional distress. This only fueled their fear. The worst incident was when Mallory found a dead rat in their yard, torn to shreds by a local stray cat. She brought the rat to the front porch, cradling it in her hands. Her parents screamed for her to put it down, but she only placed one hand over it, closing her eyes and breathing deeply.
The rat stirred to life, its wounds completely healed, even appearing younger. It scampered off in its new life while she stared in amazement at her own power.
It was the last and worst exorcism she had before running away to live with her grandmother. When her grandmother died, she felt like she’d lost her only home.
Then, a woman named Cordelia Goode announced nationwide that she ran a school for women with exceptional powers, witches.
Mallory packed her bags and left for New Orleans.
_______________
There is no love which is not pain
There is no love which does not bruise
There is no love which does not fade
There is no love which does not live from tears...
Michael felt as if he was thrown back into his body; like he was snatched away on the cusp of discovering the final truth. He gulped in air desperately, looking around him. Mallory lay there still in a peaceful trance. She should have woken up with him.
He went to her, touching her face, “Mallory…”
She remained unresponsive.
“Mallory!”
She was still breathing, but was lost in his past, being buried beneath his darkness.
He picked her up and carried her to his bedroom, lovingly laying on his black silk sheets, propping her head on a few pillows.
Hours passed...days...weeks…
“Mallory, please,” he begged everyday, “Please come back to me.”
He refused to leave the house. His food, his work, everything was ordered to be delivered to that single room. Several Cooperative members pleaded with him snap out of it; they promised to place a guard at the house, to set up a cycle of servants so he could be notified if or when she woke up. They were met with fury.
All the while she was plunged into the deep dark waters of Michael’s past. She witnessed everything, felt everything he experienced. It was enough to surely kill her.
She finally came to after nearly two months of unconsciousness. Michael was at her side immediately, caressing her sweat-soaked face. “It’s ok,” he whispered over and over again, “It’s ok, I’m here.” Her breathing calmed, her mind cleared; she looked at him, seeing beyond him. It was as if she’d journeyed through his soul, seeing every crevice, every hidden thought, surveying every molecule of his essence. It was terrifying. She saw slit throats and corpses, demonic claws sinking into his heart, endless dark. It was sorrowful; brimming with abandonment and loss, desire to change, but no one to help, a small, scared child thrust into the arms of people who only saw him as a means to an end, a tool. Bottomless loneliness and a starving for love, true, faithful love. But more than anything... It was beautiful. He was beautiful. Despite it all. She should hate him, she should want him dead. But only love flooded her heart. There was a bond between them now that their souls were bare before each other, a golden thread that weaved among their atoms, threading them together; they were darkness and light, a dichotomy, two coexisting infinities that could never be separated. She took his face in her hands, admiring every detail of his face; she touched their foreheads together, breathing him in. “You will never be alone again.” Tears sprung to his eyes, his fingers brushing over her neck. The thread tightened, pulling them closer and closer together until their lips connected. Michael groaned the moment their lips touched, ferociously pouring out every ounce of built up sorrow and desire. Emotion overflowed in both of them; tears began to fall upon their lips, and they shared them, letting go of every pretension. Michael snapped his fingers, their clothes disappearing. They became a mess of entangled limbs and passing breaths. He kissed all the way down her body, wrapping his arms around her thighs. She sighed, her skin burning with each touch of his lips. She entwined her fingers in his silken hair, threading through it assuringly. He gave a gentle bite on her stomach, earning a surprised moan. He looked up, concerned, searching to see if she was displeased. Her pulse quickened, slick heat burned between her thighs as she looked into his pleading gaze. “I’m fine,” she whispered, “That felt so good,” she pressed her lips to his forehead, “You make me feel so good, Michael.” A desperate noise left his lips as he pulled her closer, leaving more love bites on her stomach and inner thighs, relishing every utterance of praise from her. He snaked his hands under her and started to lay on his back, Golden hair spilling on the black silk. He looked up at her under heady eyes. “Take your throne,” he begged breathlessly. She bit her lip, pulling herself over him; he made quick work with his tongue, tasting her with desperate ferocity. Her legs trembled; her grip on the headboard tightening as the pleasure exploded through her body, primal moans and worship flowed from her like a hymn. Michael’s fingers gripped and dug into her flesh; the taste of her dripping on his tongue sent a jolt of need through him. Unable to bear it, he reached down and attempted to relieve some of his growing desire for release. With a heavy breath, Mallory slid herself down his body, straddling his stomach. He was taking in air like a dying man, his tongue running over his lips with little moans of pleasure. He looked up at her, eyes begging and submissive. He traced his hands over her, cupping her breasts, massaging them, treating them like sacred objects, reverently venerating her skin. He slid his fingers up to her throat, slowly curling around it gently, whispering in an uncertain tone, “Mine?” She kept her eyes on him as she took his thumb and wrapped her lips around it, biting and sucking. His other hand traced down her body to feel her wetness coating his stomach. She leaned into his touch, sighing and raking her nails across his chest. Her own need curling into thick tendrils in her core. She leaned down, giving him a passionate kiss, “Yours.” He groaned, bucking his hips, tears pricking at the corners of his eyes. “Please, Mallory,” he could barely speak, the need building within him stealing all of his words. He sat up to grip her face and pull her into a desperate, devouring kiss. “Take me,” he whined, “Please, take all of me.” She kissed him again, but he pulled back with a needy grunt, “I need you. I need to feel you surrounding me, please. Oh, please, Mallory...” the rest of his pleas were unintelligible noises of wanton hunger. She slid down further, lowering herself; he released a shaky, prolonged moan as she took him. She vocalized her pleasure with each thrust of her hips, her rhythm and speed building with her desire. Faster. Harder. Both of them riding out their pleasure, their bodies relentlessly chasing its zenith until Their release struck them like lightning. Michael couldn’t temper his volume as he screamed out her name like an irreverent prayer. Mallory could barely breathe as pleasure like bursts of light shot through her veins. They collapsed together, slick with sweat and languid. Michael, with little strength, wrapped his arms around her, planting lazy kisses on her face and neck. She clung to him like a survivor to her last hope. “Mine.” He breathed into her ear. She kissed his neck, “Mine.” They would delight in each other several more times that night, much slower and gentler. A sensation washing over them that neither of them had felt in a long time... Peace
__________
The two new lovers were wrapped up together, sleeping as they hadn’t in years. Michael’s face was buried in Mallory’s neck like it was his refuge; her legs circled his waist, hands still entangled in his hair.
A faint hum disturbed her rest. She opened her eyes to find herself staring up at a night sky, stars dotting the velvet canvas. She eased herself up, glancing around at the field where she had first met the being posing as Cordelia. Only this time, instead of the greenhouse, a large, wispy tree curled its silver branches up to the sky, gorged, white fruit with speckles of gold hung low upon it. She approached, curious at the sight.
A rustling of footsteps caught her attention. The woman stood there, still in the guise of Cordelia, staring at the tree with forlorn eyes.
“This is not how I intended this to happen,” she sounded far away, “It was all supposed to be much simpler than this.”
Mallory glared, feeling no sympathy, “Why couldn’t I bring Cordelia back?”
She sighed deeply, meeting her gaze, “You can’t cheat death forever, Mallory. Eventually it comes to claim its due.”
She stepped toward her, “You’re lying.”
She closed her eyes and rubbed her temple, “I won’t let you, that’s why.”
“Who are you?” She demanded.
The woman shook her head, pouting slightly, “I have imagined this moment for years, eager to welcome you with open arms. And now here we are, and you already hate me.”
Mallory took another confrontation step, “Who are you?”
She smiled ruefully, holding up her arms as if in defeat, “Simply...I am God.”
Mallory stared.
“I am the bringer of light and creation. I am the light from which the daughters of Salem draw their power. And you” she dared to come closer and brush the back of her fingers over Mallory’s cheek, “...are my daughter.”
“I don’t understand,” was her dumbfounded response.
“You see, Michael’s father and I,” she chuckled, “Satan as he likes to be called, he and I are a balancing scale...a dichotomy which brings the universe into order. There is good and evil, light and dark. From the very beginning of time, we have fought for balance in the universe. However, there came a point where we stopped fighting for balance, and began fighting for dominance,” her face darkened, “He decided that he wanted to tip the scales, create chaos and violence over the whole earth. And now it is time to tip the scales back again. I am tired of his malevolence and wrath, I want to create a new world. One where death and disease is an ancient memory,” her smile returned, wistful, “And I will use you Mallory. I will use you to build this new creation. You were born to rule a new earth.”
The memories of the stories her grandmother told her crashed over once again.
“I’m just a witch.”
She cupped her face, eyes widening, “No, Mallory. Oh, you are so much more. Don’t you understand? No witch has ever been able to do what you can, because you are not simply extraordinary, you are divine.”
That doesn’t explain why you refuse to let me resurrect Cordelia.
She threw her hands down, turning in a huff, “Can’t you think of anything else?!”
Storm clouds began to gather on the horizon, “I have just told you that you are the daughter of God who will bring about a new world, and you’re worried about one stupid witch. Cordelia had to die. So did every other member of the coven,” she shook her head, frustrated, “Mallory you are my daughter, but it is also true that you are a witch. If every other witch was dead then the power of Supreme would transfer to you.”
Her words from before crossed her mind, “I wasn’t the next Supreme.”
She turned away from her, “No, Coco was.”
That was a punch to the gut. A sudden flash of a vision appeared before her. Her ancestor, Mara...and her adopted sister Jescha, who faded into Coco.
Her knees trembled. The woman went on, belligerent, “She was a vapid, stupid little girl but her powers were growing and given time and attention she would have ascended after Cordelia.” She faced Mallory again, a regretful expression scrunching her face, “Michael planned to kill everyone in the Outpost, I made sure that if no one else, Coco wouldn’t survive.”
“You wanted Michael to kill the coven,” the revelation shook the ground beneath her.
She held out her hands, almost in penance, “I know you cannot understand, but what I did was for a greater plan, a greater good.  The witches had to die...Mead had to die. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement. Michael’s father and I knew that in order for both of our children to be put on the right path...there had to be a catalyst. Mead’s death forced Michael to the Cooperative and allowed me to ensure that you would have all the power you needed to stop him.”
Fire exploded from Mallory’s fingertips, threatening to consume the woman; but she stopped the fireball, extinguishing it.
“You killed them!” Mallory screamed.
“Me?” her shoulders sagged, hurt, “Mallory it was Michael who walked into Robicheaux’s and erased your sisters.”
“You not only watched it,” she cried through gritted teeth, “you set up the pieces for it to happen.”
She tried to touch her, holding out her arms as if to embrace her, “I know my ways are difficult to understand!” Mallory knocked her back, “Don’t!”
The woman regained her stance, watching her daughter with pleading eyes.
“You think you’re different from Michael’s father? My life, Michael’s life, all of our lives are nothing but a game to you! You didn’t care about stopping the Apocalypse, you cared about winning. You and him are the same thing with different masks.”
“I am trying to make a new world!” she screamed, thunder peeling from the distance, “I want to mend everything that Michael has broken. And the only way for me to do that is if you defeat him.”
Mallory was shaking visibly, “I won’t hurt him. I won’t.”
She scoffed, “He sheds a few tears and suddenly you think you know him? He is a curse, an ugly blot on creation that should never have taken his first breath.”
She attempted to embrace her again, “You are my chosen vessel, my beautiful shining light that will destroy darkness once and for all.”
“I don’t want whatever world you create,” she spat.
The woman grew deadly serious, her voice dropping to a low, threatening tone. The storm rolled closer and closer, “Mallory, don’t make me hurt you. This will end on a battlefield, whether you choose to go willingly or not.” Mallory turned away from her, “Go to hell.”
She opened her eyes in Michael’s bed, hearing his steady breathing beside her. She clung to him and began to cry.
He awoke with a start, looking her over and trying to comfort her, “What’s wrong?”
“I know exactly who I am. And I wish I didn’t.”
He held her tightly, fully aware of their plight. He caressed her hair, “Every light casts a shadow, Mallory.”
She sobbed, “I won’t hurt you.”
“We won’t have a choice. Prophecy-“
“Fuck prophecy,” she pulled back, “fuck their stupid games,” she kissed him, “I love you.”
He breathed in deeply, laying his forehead on hers with an expression that declared his knowledge that this bliss couldn’t last; it was never going to.
“I love you,” he whispered against her lips.
...there is no happy love.
But it is our own love.
