Kathryn Hunter (Aikaterini Hadjipateras), the real VIP in 'Poor Things' (2023). She stole the show in The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021). She's a terribly passive aggressive mother in the Star Wars series 'Andor.'
Her voice swims in the same waters as Shohreh Aghdashloo. It's a voice that's distantly related to Tom Waits. Maybe a second or third cousin. Read an interview with her. She's a delight. Always happy to see her.
Very simplistic and light-hearted (but also very honest) approach to the matter but Macbeth not being able to take a seat because of Banquo's ghost just appearing is one of the top moments EVER in literature for me, no matter how many times I read/watch Macbeth I will ALWAYS gasp bc of it. Maybe it's the fact that, for obvious reasons, the moment is put very plainly ("Enter the GHOST of BANQUO and sits in MACBETH's place"...if Macbeth were a novel, and I were the author, I'd put it just as plainly) , maybe it's the fact that the scene going on from there is absolutely striking and, on a certain degree, heart-wrenching, I don't know. But yes. Top moments from Macbeth for sure. One of my personal favourites by Will. I. Am Shakespeare.
Continuing our look at The works of Mr. William Shakespear: in ten volumes published in 1728 by Alexander Pope (1688-1744) and Dr. George Sewell (d. 1726) for Jacob Tonson (1655-1736), this weekend we pore over Volume Seven.
This volume contains the tragedies Antony and Cleopatra, Titus Andronicus, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and problem play Trolius and Cressida. All four plays were published in the First Folio, however Trolius and Cressida seems to have been haphazardly squeezed in on unnumbered pages between the histories and tragedies adding to its genre identification problems. In step with Shakespeare’s other problem plays, Trolius and Cressida’s ambiguous tone bounces around creating a montage of possible intents and leaves viewers puzzled about how to relate to the characters.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is contemporarily known as a cursed play and superstitiously often referred to as The Scottish Play. Proposed origins of the curse are rumored in Shakespeare having used real witches’ spells in the text below angering witches who then cursed the play.
Like Rowe’s earlier collection, scene divisions, stage directions, dramatis personae, and full-page engravings by either French artist Louis Du Guernier (1677-1716) or Englishman Paul Fourdrinier (1698-1758) precede each play.
Pope’s editions of Shakespeare were the first attempted to collate all previous publications. He consulted twenty-seven early quartos restoring passages that had been out of print for almost a century while simultaneously removing about 1,560 lines of material that didn’t appeal to him. Some of those lines were degraded to the bottom of the page with his other editorial notes.
Witches say he shall be king, so with Lady Macbeth’s help he murders his way to the throne, then backstabs his only allies for fear of them plotting against him. According to the witches, he can only die if the forest marches to his gates, so he’s good to go! Until an army carrying a forest of branches arrives at his gates. a classic
macbeth was too caught up in being manipulated by his hot wife that he failed to notice his declining mental state or the fact that treason is, in fact, Not Good; scottish white boy breaking it down ne’er-be-cleaned style
Adam
He fucked around and found out! Adam was a humanoid machine created in front of androids 2B and 9S. He nearly died to them another guy came out of the stab wound but that's irrelevant to his hubris lol. Connected to a network of machines, he became fixated on humanity (which has "fled to the moon" thousands of years ago), and more importantly, their emotions. He started copying the BIBLE, going "hm yes I'll name myself Adam my brother can be Eve ig, oh lookie here apples make you smart, we don't need to eat but let's eat those" and just like. Buddy. I'm not even Christian or Jewish or anything but I don't think that's what the Bible meant. Anyways, he wonders how androids feel emotions, so, as one does, he kidnaps 9S, just kinda puts him through some good ol' psychological torture, and then stabs him and sort of crucifies him, leaving him alive Now onto the hubris! He leaves 9S there, so when 2B finds 9S, Adam tells he he wants to see HATE firsthand. He disconnects from the network, making him completely mortal, and decided he wants to see 2B fight him. And, obviously, she does, bc she is PISSED. Aaaand Adam promptly gets stabbed and bleeds out on the floor. Fucked around and found out lol;
