What if Neytiri sought Uturu from the Metkayina clan and ran into Jake after him, Wari, and y/n were all happy together? And Jake felt some old feelings coming back up because of their past tshayleu connection? The potential angst 👀

“Who are you?” You asked curiously, wondering why a forest na’vi flew all the way to Awa’atlu, alone.
“Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite. Daughter of Mo’at, and Eytukan.”
Neytiri. The name seemed familiar.
“Why have you traveled so far to get here? Are you safe?”
“No, actually.” The woman lowered her head. “I seek Uturu.”
“Uturu?” Tonowari approached from behind. “Daughter of a great Tsahik seeks Uturu?” He clarified.
“Me and my former mate got into some trouble with other…species and I’m afraid I cannot stay in the forest much longer.”
You looked up at Tonowari who had a conflicted look on his face. Nodding your head to get his attention, you began to speak to him with your eyes. ‘I washed up on the shore a year ago’
‘That's different.’
‘She needs our help Wari.’
‘Y/n I don’t think you under-”
“Neytiri?” You heard Jake say in disbelief behind you. He came walking forward, looking at the na’vi woman with his eyes bugged from his head.
“Jake.” She smiled at his presence.
You backed up and grabbed onto Tonowari’s arm and watched the two interact. Jake had nicely placed his hand on her bicep, comforting her and asking about what happened.
‘That's the Neytiri?’
‘I wish I could’ve warned you sooner.’
Jake came up to you with a pleading look in his eyes. “Tonowari. I know you already-”
“She's your responsibility.” Tonowari said coldly. You looked at him confused, but stood ten toes down for him, nodding your head and ultimately accepting Neytiri’s Uturu request.
---
“Tonowari, did accepting Uturu really upset you?” You kneeled next to your husband when you had the chance. He had been twitching his ears all day, and seemingly acted unbothered to everything that happened earlier.
“I just don’t want the Metkayina tribe to be known for harboring ex-war criminals.”
You tilted your head and Tonowari sighed, finally setting down his weaving project and looking at you. “I didn’t…mean it like that.”
“I understand Wari. You take so many risks and you’re worried for the clan.”
He smiled softly, “That's why you’re my Tsahik.”
As the two of you leaned in to kiss, Jake walked in, untying his hair and setting his gun aside. “Y/n. Tonowari.” He greeted.
“Ma Jake.” You began approaching him. “How is she settling in?”
He gulped and nodded. “She's doing fine. A little emotional but, everything will be just fine.” He reassured. Tonowari looked at him with a disgraceful expression, and you were not oblivious to the look. You cleared your throat and ran your hands down your lover's arms. “Rough day for us all? Let’s get to bed.”
The three of you retreated to bed, cutting off all the lights and locking up for the night. You found yourself between the two men, leg thrown across Jake’s waist. You couldn’t help but notice a tense nature, maybe a coldness to the bed that night.
The next morning you awoke to the bed empty of your two lovers. You groaned getting up, walking to the kitchen to grab for the fruit bowl you knew Tonowari had prepped for you earlier that morning. You ate in zen, thinking of all the rounds you would have to make around the village. Schools, weaving pods, and fishing stations to see if there were any alarming districts.
The first stop you made was the fishing stations, walking on the boardwalks and watching how people made their catches. You noticed a little girl struggling with her net, so you walked over and helped her untangle the webbed mess.
“And you twist your arm and throw it out like that.” You noticed a familiar voice. You snapped your head over to see Jake guiding Neytiri. His hand was close to her waist, looking down at her entranced as he helped her out. You stood and placed your hand on the girl's shoulder, bidding her goodbye. “Hi Jake, Neytiri.” You walked over. Jake dropped his hand from her waist and turned towards you. “Y/n. Didn't know you'd be stopping by today.”
You quirked an eyebrow. “You know I always make my rounds on this day. Hasn't changed for months.”
Jake sucked his teeth and nodded.
“While I have you here, what would you like for dinner?”
“Actually, I was gonna hard body it and get some dinner with Neytiri. We do late night hunting sometimes.”
You raised your head and nodded down, not too fond of the rejection. “Okay.” You said, and began walking to make the rest of the rounds. You would be lying to yourself if you said you weren't upset. Jake had been acting brand new since Neytiri had come around, and you didn't appreciate that.
You bumped into Tonowari in one of the weaving pods, smiling at the focus he had on his project.
“Ma wari.” You cooed softly. You walked over and sat next to him, leaning your head on his shoulder. “Y/n, my love. How are the rounds?”
“Everything is just fine.” You said blankly. He hummed in approval and went back to weaving. After a few moments of silence you couldn't ignore the pit in your stomach, and looked back up at your husband for reassurance.
“You haven't….like…do Tsaheylu with someone before me did you?”
Tonowari placed his weaving pieces down and grabbed your hand. “No. I've only ever bonded with you. Why do you ask?”
You took in a breath. “Jake has been acting weird and I'm just hoping you won't be next.” You felt his lips press softly against your forehead. “You are my wife, my Tsahik. There is no woman on this land that comes before you. Jake…is another story, but I cannot abandon you.”
Smiling, you turned to climb into his lap and hug him, leaning your head into his chest.
“Love you Ma Wari.”
Time passed and you noticed how Jake rarely came home anymore. You placed your focus on Wari, who was still very much there and attentive to your needs, but you couldn't help but think of your other lover who had unfinished business with the two of you.
You would catch glimpses of Jake, but no longer made the effort to approach him.  Slowly implementing a cold shoulder, you made sure Jake was aware of how angry you were with him, but sadly he seemed more focused on getting home to Neytiri at the end of the night.
Tonowari got increasingly agitated at Jake as well, not only was he neglecting you, he was neglecting his duties. The newest insurrection was coming up and Jake hadn’t made any plans, only you and Tonowari.
“What the fuck is this?” Jake flung the paper onto the ground.
“Y/n choose K’arim to lead the air team. He’s one of our best warriors and he's proven to be capable.” Tonowari looked at him with a smug expression.
Jake turned towards you, upset and angry. “You replaced me…with a random warrior who has no knowledge on the-”
“Stop it with that excuse!” You snapped. “You haven’t been here. We got new updates and where were you?”
Jake stammered over his words, eyes glinting as he did so. You felt a shift in a room, a lighter one.
“I’ll….I’ll be back.” He quickly dashed from the pod, and Tonowari let out a groan. You knew what Wari was thinking because you were too. Something goes wrong and he goes running to her.
---
It didn’t take long for things to crash and burn with the three of you. Only a few days later, you walked home to find your two lovers fighting, but this wasn’t any ordinary fight, as you saw Tonowari holding and pointing his spear at Jake.
“What the hell is going on? You dropped your basket of fruit and walked over.
“He is leaving!” Tonowari pointed at Jake and spat. “I knew Uturu was bullshit.”
“She needed our help!” Jake tried reasoning with the Metkayina male. Tonowari began hissing, which came as a small warning of the anger that was to come soon. You approached Jake with tears in your eyes. “So she comes and you just leave?” You asked, trying to make sense of it all.
“Typical. She goes crying and he goes running.” Tonowari scoffed.
Jake grabbed your hands and shook his head. “Please understand Y/n. I love you, I really do but-”
“You are mated with her for life.”
He nodded, releasing your hands and looking at his best friend one last time before leaving the pod.
You turned to Tonowari, and began breaking down, falling down to your knees and sobbing. “What was the point of everything?” You whimpered. Tonowari immediately ran to envelop you in his arms. Pulling you off the ground and rocking you.
“I- I broke customs for him!” You hissed.
“I did too. This is not on you Y/n.” He comforted.
You grabbed at your husband's biceps, burying your head into his chest and crying softly. As you weeped, he ran his hands down your head and shushed you. “This is the last time I'll let anyone into our land and hurt you.”

“She is a Christian,” Floki whispered in Ragnars ear as the pair studied the girl presented to them, “We should get rid of her, not drag her around with us. She will only slow us down,”
While Floki’s eyes bore into Ragnars skull the kings’ eyes lingered elsewhere. They had taken your village some days ago when one of his men found you hiding in the forest. The sight of you on your knees, even if it were to pray to a false god to survive, was enough to convince Ragnar.
“I should like to keep her,” he said, watching how your lips wrapped around the words you mumbled, “Untie her hands,” he commanded one of his men as Floki sighed.
“What is it with you and your Christian pets? At least keep her hands bound,” he tried to reason but Ragnar just shook his head. He knew you wouldn’t run.
A couple of weeks had passed of successful raiding and gold was beginning to pile up around him. Ragnar sat at the makeshift feast they had decided to throw after taking another village however his eyes were once again on the Christian girl who sat across from him. At first you used to flush under his gaze, a sight he enjoyed and often tried to tease out by whispering pretty words in your ear.
Ragnar leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, “What are you thinking about?” he asked, your eyes snapping up to meet his.
“That I may sleep soon. The night is growing long,”
“That is an excellent idea. Perhaps I should join you,” he said, smirking at the way you began to stutter and flush, “Tell me something. Where you married before?”
You paused for a moment before answering, “No, why?”
Ragnar shook his head, “well I heard,” he said, leaning in closer and grinning as you did the same as his voice dropped to a whisper, “that it is only the married ones who get fucked,”
“I-well-I- yes it would be a sin otherwise,” you stuttered out, face growing hot as Ragnar poured himself another glass of wine. “I’m not even supposed to talk about…that,”
“Why not?”
“It is a sin,”
“Why?” he asked, tilting his head like a curious child.
The awkward smile worn on your lips made a real one grow on his face, “Because god said so,”
“Have you spoken to god,”
“Well, no,”
“Then how do you know?” a frustrated sigh left your lips that made Ragnars grin widen. He was getting to you and enjoying every moment of it. he leaned in closer once more, whispering for your sake more than anything,” Why would a god create something so beautiful then not let you appreciate its wonders?”
“It is a sin,” you clung to the excuse, realising you did not know why either.
The laugh that left his mouth however caught you off guard and your lips twitched, almost forming a smile at the smile on his face. That was until he spoke again, “Perhaps we should sin together one time,” he said, standing and grabbing his cup of wine. Before he could leave, he sauntered over to whisper one last thing in your ear, “And the idea of you falling apart on my cock is enough to make me believe in my god,”
A few more weeks had passed and soon you would be heading back with the raiders to their land. Despite still being wary of many of the men some, Ragnar specifically, had grown on you. “Where will I stay when you take me back with you?” you asked one night as you began to brush through your hair.
Ragnar glanced at you as he began to unlace his boots. While he had unbound your hands, he had insisted on keeping you in his tent, thankfully on your own bed, thought you wondered if this was for his entertainment or safety, “I will find somewhere for you,” he answered simply before reaching to pull his shirt over his head.
Despite seeing this sight many times, the way his muscles flexed, and his tattoos gleamed against his skin made a tingle shoot through your spine. “So, I won’t be a slave? Or is it a thrall you call them?”
Ragnar paused for a moment, his eyes scanning over you, “You need not worry little one. I will take care of you,”
A moment passed before you allowed yourself to smile, “Thank you Ragnar,” you said and a small smile crept onto his lips as he settled himself above his sheets, his eyes scanning over you.
“Come here,” he said, nervousness washing over you, “Trust me,”
You paused at first before standing from beneath your covers. Your underdress was the only thing to cover you now as you crossed the tent. Ragnar patted the spot beside him and cautiously you sat down, picking at your thumbs. His hand closed over yours, “You’ll make yourself bleed,” he said, and you just nodded as his eyes continued to study your face.
“Has anyone ever kissed you?” he whispered.
You swallowed before answering, “Once,” you said, tempted to pick at your skin but somehow resisting, “But I wasn’t very good at it,”
“Perhaps you should try again,” he whispered, his hot breath fanning over your skin as he moved to rest his forehead against yours.
“Perhaps you could teach me,” you whispered, a spark lighting in his eyes, “if I am to go back to your land perhaps it is time I Learned your ways,”
“All our ways?” he asked, his hand reaching over to run his fingers lightly up your thighs making you shiver, “Is that what you desire little one?”
“Would it be so wrong if I did?” you asked and the way your wide eyes gazed into his made Ragnars cock begin to harden.
His hand trailed slowly up your leg, torturously so until it arrived at your hip. You gasped when he grabbed it, pulling you over to straddle his thigh. “Ragnar- “you gasped, when he bent his leg up, propping you up on his strong thigh, “What are you doing?”
“Teaching,” his hands reached for your hair, pulling your lips down onto his. This was far different from the last time someone had kissed you. this was rough and needy and made whines leave your throat as one of his hands moved to your hips.
You couldn’t even question what he was doing before he began to move your hip, making you grind down onto his thigh. The way you whimpered made Ragnar wonder if Odin himself had blessed him. Ragnar guided your hips and soon your body took over, rubbing your clit against his strong thigh as his hand squeezed the flesh of your hips.
When he pulled his lips away yours chased after his making a chuckle leave them before he began to kiss down your jaw. “You don’t need to be quite little one,” he mumbled against your skin as a soft moan left your mouth, “No one will judge,”
His lips soon found the crook of your neck, kissing it in a way that made a knot in your stomach tighten. Since your hips now moved of their own accord his hands were free to travel up your frame, taking your tits in his hand and making you gasp as he squeezed them softly.
He felt his cock twitch at the feeling of the Hardened buds beneath your shift. His fingertips trailed slowly around your nipples at first, enjoying your needy whines before he finally began to roll them between his fingers.
“Oh god,” you moaned as he pinched them gently, but your words just made him want you more and groan against your skin.
It didn’t take long for a tight feeling to spread across your body, “What is happening to me?” you asked but it came out as more of a whine.
“Enjoy it little one,” Ragnar said, his lips moving to kiss your check, “Let yourself let go,” he said before your lips slammed onto his even catching yourself by surprise. Your moans allowed him to slip his tongue in, the kiss becoming messier and more desperate as you grinded against his thigh.
He felt your body jerk and Ragnar smirked into the kiss knowing what was about to happen. Your lips broke apart only for your head to fall in the crook of his shoulder, “Oh god,” you began to moan again before you felt your peak wash over you like a tidal wave.
sensing your body tensing and hips slowly Ragnar reached for your hips, moving them for you so he could watch you ride out your peak on his thigh. Curses left your lips before you finally slumped into his chest. Ragnar let out a small chuckle, letting his leg lay flat and holding you against his chest. Ragnar had defiantly made the right decision he thought.

[MK X READER] New Era - Chapter .002
Woot Woot, got motivation to type out chapter 2 quick :D
first part | next part
FROM THE EYES OF ONE WHO WITNESSED A TEST
Fengjian was a simple, but prosperous town.
Walking into the village, you did not need to wear the robes like Liu Kang did. After all, you weren’t as well known- nor did your eyes glow like the fire god’s. You took in the simplicity of the town, breathing in deeply as you closed your eyes for a moment to take in the atmosphere.
“It has been some time since we have come here last.” Liu Kang spoke, causing you to open your eyes. You nodded, chuckling at the memory. Typically, Madam Bo goes to you whenever you are to meet up. But the last time you were here you remember fondly of the atmosphere the teahouse provided.
It was at times like those you longed for more, even if just for a moment, a town to call home. It wasn’t as if you disliked the fire temple, you adored it. It was always so tranquil. and the company there wasn’t anything to complain about.
It’s just that…you felt like an outcast, at times.
It’s nothing that anyone else has done to you, it’s just that you didn’t feel like you belonged in a community quite like a town would. You cherished the friendships you had, you just wished that the friends you had were around more often.
If only you could beckon the Lin Kuei like Liu Kang, maybe then you could have some of those friends around more often.
“Yes, it has been.” You agreed, snapping out of your train of thought to reply to Liu Kang, who seemed to have been watching you for a response. You’ve been spacing out more and more lately. You didn’t want to concern the fire god, after all.
It was nearing sunset, and you watched the farmers toil within the fields, trying to get the last of the harvest done. You noted two figures in the distance, both hat wearers. You furrowed your eyebrows, feeling a slight headache incoming. They seemed to be discussing something, and you were all too curious what it was. Suddenly, you watched as the two began to work frantically.
Odd, but you found amusement in their antics. You looked over to see Liu Kang observing you with his piercing glowing eyes.
“Are you feeling unwell?” He inquires, his eyes scanning your face for any sign of discomfort. He must have noticed the small grimace you had worn when you had first felt the beginnings of a headache. You nodded and waved him off.
“I’m fine, I must have a headache due to not eating before our travel here.” You explained. A small voice in the back of your head was whispering that was not the reason, but you brushed it off. Better not to think about it and to worry about something you could not control. “I’m looking forward to whatever Madam Bo makes.”
There was a wary look on Liu Kang’s face, and you watched as he opened his mouth to speak before nodding. You felt bad, he seemed concerned. He shouldn’t be though.
The two of you stepped into Madam Bo’s, and immediately you were hit with a wave of fresh, delicious smelling food and tea. You felt your stomach growl. Liu Kang, from the corner of your eye, watched you with what you could surmise was amusement. You watched with eager eyes as Madam Bo herself came over.
“It’s been too long.” She cooed at you, looking fondly at you as if you were her own child. You blinked in surprise, letting out a surprised laugh as she pulled you in for a hug. You reciprocated happily. She pulled back and held your arms, looking up at you. “Have you been keeping up with your training?” She interrogated, raising an eyebrow at you. She looked over to Liu Kang to nod at him, who bowed slightly.
“Yes, yes.” You replied, laughter imbued in your words as you nodded, grinning at her. “I’ve been sure to keep up, otherwise I knew you’d chew me out.” You watched as the elderly woman nodded in approval, muttering under her breath on how you were much better than some people. “I’ve been looking forward to eating your cooking.”
“And I’ve been looking forward to cooking for the both of you.” Madam Bo quipped with a pleased smile. She patted your arm before letting go and leading the both of you to a table more off to the side. You took your seat across from Liu Kang who settled in easily. “This should provide an adequate view of the exam.”
“Excellent.” Liu Kang said as he seemed to eye an empty table in particular. Madam Bo walked away as Liu Kang returned his gaze to you. “I had almost forgotten how dear Madam Bo holds you to her heart.” He commented, a small amused smile on his lips. You let out a laugh as you waved him off.
“I’m always surprised too, but I’m glad.” You thanked the waiter who scurried by, dropping off drinks for the both of you. You cradled the cup in your hands, and you watched as Liu Kang gracefully poured himself some tea. “I’m excited to see how the two examinees do, but I’m a bit more interested to see how the three can do well as thugs.” You lifted the cup up and took a long sip. “Honestly, it’s hard to imagine Tomas and Kuai Liang being intimidating.”
“You may find that they might surprise you.” Liu Kang replied, an amused tone in his voice. He, too, lifted up his own cup and drank the tea he had. You had never seen the rehearsal that the trio did, wanting to keep it a surprise for yourself. “I think you’ll find that you will be entertained, at the very least.” You nodded, feeling excitement buzz through you.
“I’ll trust your judgement.” You grinned back. In almost no time, Madam Bo arrived back with dishes a plenty, and you had to hold back drool. For what felt like the millionth time today, Liu Kang watched your reaction with some type of amusement. “Thank you, Madam Bo.” You said as you eyed one of the dishes in particular that had become your favorite.
“Anything for you two.” Madam Bo pat your shoulder with a proud smile before leaving. You grinned at Liu Kang as you reached for the food you craved. Liu Kang chuckled as he grabbed some food for himself. This was nice.
This was nothing unusual, Liu Kang often accompanied you during dinner. But it was always a delight to share in his company. You blinked as you felt your fingers brush Liu Kang’s as you reached for a dish. Your fingers twitched as his withdrew after a moment, and you noted how warm his fingertips felt.
For just the briefest of moments, you wondered how the whole of his hand felt. Was it also that same comforting warmth?
“The two examinees are here.” Liu Kang alerted you, snapping you out of your stupor. You perked up and turned around. First, you recognized the two as the two farmers you had seen out in the fields. Then, you felt your head pulse with pain as your vision focused on their faces.
A man with a razor brimmed hat, and a god with the powers of lightning entered your mind.
You winced, and you heard Liu Kang’s voice vaguely, but you didn’t register what he was saying. You were too focused on trying to sort the memories that were bubbling to the surface. You stared at them as the two followed Madam Bo, blissfully unaware of the intense stare the both of you were sending the duo.
“Are you alright?” The fire god inquired, tacking on your name at the end as he spoke, alerting you. You blinked, a few memories of a life that was not your own disappearing and being replaced with two names: Kung Lao and Raiden.
You turned back. For a moment, you were surprised to see concern so explicit on Liu Kang’s face. His hand hovered yours, before it settled upon it. His thumb brushed over the back of yours in a soothing way.
His hand was just as warm as you had imagined.
“Yeah.” You managed to get out, averting your eyes as you tried to not think about how comforting the warmth of his hand was. You paused, considering how truthful to be to Liu Kang. “Just…memories.” You said, knowing those words alone would clue Liu Kang in enough on what was happening. You looked back at him, and you read his expression.
Was that…surprise?
“I see.” He says, lifting his hand away from yours, but not before he squeezed yours one last time. You tried not to think about why you instantly mourned the loss of his warmth. “If you need to step out for air, best do it now before the exam begins.” The fire god warns, knowing how much you wanted to watch the exam.
“I’ll be fine.” You replied, sending Liu Kang a smile and nodding. You watched as the duo strode to the front of the restaurant, engaging in what seemed to be playful banter before getting into fighting stances. You watched in surprise as the duo sparred. “How bold of them to fight within the restaurant.” You muttered, yet the voice in your head was whispering on how this behavior seemed to be in line with…Kung Lao?
Huh?
Regardless of your confusion, the one your mind deemed as Kung Lao quickly came out as the victor. Claps and cheers echoed through the teahouse. Enthusiastically, you joined them, grinning. Kung Lao basked in the glory, bowing. Your mind pulsed as you remembered the man with the same face also cockily pose and accept his own victory in a similar way.
“Madam Bo, so far, has taught the two of them well.” Liu Kang commented as he watched the two return to their table. You nodded in agreement, eagerly getting back to the food you had temporarily forgotten about. “We must see if that practice applies to a scenario.”
Minutes flew by as Liu Kang and you finished your meal, but the show had just begun. The two of you waited as the two farmers finished their own meal, one of them much more hungry than the other. You held back a chuckle at how much he ate, and how enthusiastically it was.
You held back a gasp as you saw Smoke strode in. You bit your lip to hold back the chuckle that threatened to leave your lips. Seeing him try to emulate a thug was so…unusual. It was almost comical. You covered your mouth with your hand, hiding your smile. You glanced at Liu Kang to see his expression, but he was already staring at you.
You weren’t quite sure why, nor were you quite sure what sparked the warmth that bloomed in your chest upon realizing this.
“Madam Bo! The Lin Kuei await your answer.” Smoke called out, pulling you out of your thoughts. You turned back, noting how unusual the tone of voice Tomas was using. You wondered if he had practiced it. You were definitely going to tease him later about this. You noticed how a few more of the Lin Kuei arrived, all holding themselves in an intimidating manner.
Madam Bo dismissed Smoke, walking away. You noticed the duo talk amongst themselves, and they seemed perplexed about the scenario. You couldn’t blame them. Smoke then quickly followed her, and from what you heard, he was apparently trying to threaten her into paying up for protection. You let out a snort as you adjusted how you sat so you could comfortably watch.
You were definitely reminding him of this later.
Smoke nodded to the other Lin Kuei, and you watched as ruckus occurred. You idly sipped your drink along with Liu Kang. The Lin Kuei knew very well to avoid the two of you. You even sent a glance to a random Lin Kuei who even nodded in your direction subtly.
The perks of being a companion of a god, you supposed.
Your jaw dropped as you saw Madam Bo begin to fight Tomas before she was sent flying over the railing. You swiveled your head and leaned over the table to whisper to Liu Kang.
“You did not tell me Madam Bo was going to be thrown over the second floor railing!” You hissed out in surprise, and Liu Kang chuckled over your shock.
“That would ruin the surprise, wouldn’t it?” He replied simply, smiling before nodding in the direction of the two you were supposed to be watching. You turned around, watching as the duo ran up to fight off the Lin Kuei. Kung Lao in particular was fighting off Smoke.
“I have to admit, I admire their tenacity.” You murmur to Liu Kang, noting the technique Kung Lao was using. It felt all too familiar, and although you weren’t quite certain why, the way he fought pulled at your heartstrings. You watched as the two “took down” the group of assassins before trying to walk away to go down help Madam Bo.
Quickly, you noticed Sub Zero emerge from the rooftop, seeming ready to become the duo’s next obstacle. He shot a blast of ice down to alert them, and you took another sip of your drink. You’d have to tease Bi-Han on how he played the villain, perhaps, too well.
Scorpion entered, swinging his spear around to appear intimidating himself. You attention returned to Sub Zero trying to throw an ice ball their way, and you noticed how he lobbed it much slower than usual so they had time to dodge.
If only he went this easy on you during training years ago. You still had bruises from how harsh he was on you.
Sub Zero warns them to leave, but the duo stubbornly decide to stay. Amazed, you watched as Bi-Han jumped down to tackle Raiden. You winced. Bi-han never half assed anything it seemed. This left Kung Lao to fend off Scorpion. Although the Lin Kuei were pulling their punches, you were pleasantly surprised to see the techniques that Madam Bo had taught the two men were shining through.
Scorpion was now down.
You watched as Raiden climbed up to the second floor, then Sub Zero quickly followed by jumping up, quicking Raiden into a man at the bar. You raised an eyebrow and looked at Liu Kang. Everyone else aside from you two were supposed to evacuate for the safety of everyone.
“I suppose he is too…drunk to have remembered.” Liu Kang explained, though he seemed a bit perplexed himself, an expression you were not used to see on his face. Either way, you noticed the graceful way the cryomancer managed to dodge Raiden’s strikes and disarm him without getting the drunkard involved.
You held back a chuckle as you saw Kung Lao toss his hat towards Sub Zero. You felt a wave of nostalgia wash over you, and you saw a vision of a more experienced Kung Lao tossing his signature hat towards an enemy, decapitating it.
You really needed to sort out these memories.
You weren’t certain whether Bi-Han was actually irritated or not as he engaged battle with Kung Lao, but it didn’t take long for Kung Lao to take him down.
You were impressed, and it seemed that Liu Kang was pleased as well at the duo’s performance.
Kung Lao and Raiden rushed over to aid Madam Bo, and Liu Kang stood up. You followed suit, knowing that the test was done. You heard Madam Bo declare that she wasn’t quite dead yet as you followed Liu Kang downstairs.
You noted the destruction of the teahouse, and briefly wondered just who was going to repair this.
As the two of you descended the steps, Liu Kang lowered his hood. You looked towards the farmer boys, and managed to make eye contact with both of them. Your headache was strong, but not strong enough to summon any memories it seemed.
“So, Madam Bo, are they ready?” Liu Kang inquired, looking towards a casual Madam Bo who was smoking. It was as if she never had been tossed over a railing. You stifled a laugh. She was resilient for an old lady.
“A bit thick in the head perhaps…” Madam Bo began, gesturing to the two. You bit your lip to hide a smile as you noticed the offended look the duo exchanged. “But they are ready.” She admitted, nodding.
“His eyes are glowing.” Raiden marveled, and you felt your heart squeeze at the comment. You were granted a vision of a much older looking version of Raiden who had glowing eyes.
“I am Lord Liu Kang, God of Fire and Protector of Earthrealm.” Liu Kang introduced himself. You were hit by nostalgia, vaguely reminded of the way he had tried to introduce himself to you years ago when you had first stumbled upon the Fire Temple.
“God? Earthrealm? And who’s your…companion?” Kung Lao inquired, perplexed before he gestured to you.
“I’m simply Lord Liu Kang’s companion, not a god.” You said, after introducing yourself to the duo. You bowed their way, feeling a bit pleased to have been noticed enough to have to introduce yourself to them. You gestured to Liu Kang. “I would advise you both to listen to him closely, Lord Liu Kang will explain many of your questions.”
“Madam Bo has been preparing you for this moment since you were boys.” Liu Kang informed them as he crossed his arms. Madam Bo nodded proudly, a soft smile on her face. It was the same look she sent you when she had aided you in some training years ago. “Today, you have proven worthy of joining my champions.” He proclaimed as he strode closer to the two.
“This fight was- a test?”
“Of your ability and character, yes.” Liu Kang confirmed. Kung Lao crossed his arms, seeming to mull over the situation. Raiden was also letting it all sink in, though his expression was much more readable than the former’s. “Bi-Han, Kuai Liang.”
The teahouse came to life as the Lin Kuei got up from their slumped over positions. You watched as Smoke stood above, watching you all with the rest of the Lin Kuei from the railing. The two brothers, meanwhile, strode downstairs by your side. Bi Han stood to your left.
You pursed your lips as you looked at the wound that Kung Lao had left from the chakram he had thrown. You’d have to patch him up later.
“So these two aren’t thugs?” Kung Lao inquired, gesturing to the two assassins who stood beside you. He sounded in disbelief, and you couldn’t blame him. Despite the fact that you’d be poking fun at the trio of brothers later, you had to admit they were pretty good at acting.
“The Lin Kuei are a centuries old clan dedicated to Earthrealm’s defense.” Liu Kang explained, and you found yourself naturally nodding to his words.
“You keep on saying Earthrealm. Don’t you mean Earth?” Raiden interrupted, a confused look on his face. His face was so innocent looking, it fit that he also had a sense of naivety as well.
“You boys have so much to learn.” Madam Bo said, a tone of amusement in her voice as she looked at the two.
“Earth is only a part of Earthrealm.” Liu Kang explained, just as patient as he was with you when you unraveled your jumbled memories together. You’ve always admired that about him. “Earthrealm itself is one of many realms. Together they comprise the whole of the universe.” The god explained.
Other realms…You felt a twinge of excitement and anxiety within yourself.
Soon. The tournament was months away.
“The realms can be fierce, bitter rivals.” The older woman explained as she walked in front of the farmer boys to look at them. “That’s why we need champions to defend ours.” She continued, gesturing to Liu Kang as she did so.
“The time draws near for the grand martial arts tournament between Earthrealm and the realm of Outworld.” The fire god continued, picking up from where Madam Bo left off. “Held once each century, it allows each realm to demonstrate its strength. While our realms are at peace, there are Outworlders who would prefer us to be at war. Our victory in the tournament will…temper their zeal.”
“I’ve taught you everything I can.” Madam Bo piped up. “You must finish your training with Lord Liu Kang and his companion.” You blinked in surprise, sending a subtle glance towards Liu Kang. He did not seem to notice, and you made a note to ask about it later.
You? Be a mentor for this tournament when you were an amnesiac who might not even originate from Earthrealm?
You knew Liu Kang often commended your fighting prowess, but still, the idea of being one of the people in charge of training them…You weren’t sure what to make of it. You caught the gaze of Kuai Liang who seemed to nod at you as if to congratulate you.
Did everyone else know about this?
“More training?” Kung Lao seemed exasperated. He gestured to the two brothers. “Those two couldn’t even defeat us.” He scoffed, cockily.
Bi-Han scoffed, and you glanced at him. Madam Bo chuckled, though her laughter was much more light hearted than the offended scoff from Sub Zero. At Kung Lao’s confused look, she explained.
“They were pulling their punches.”
“Had we not held back, you would have not survived.” Bi-Han informed them, sending Kung Lao in particular a sharp glare. He stepped forward to emphasize his point. Sensing the looks from others, you huffed as you pulled him back, grabbing his arm. It was cold, like usual. Bi-Han’s head swiveled back to send you an instinctual glare.
Like usual though, his temper seemed to calm a bit as you sent him a warning look. Irritable as he was, he was not illogical.
“Come.” Liu Kang said, smoothly glossing over the interruption. “The monks at the Wu Shi Academy await to continue your tutelage.” He invited them, sending them a warm smile.
“I am ready, Lord Liu Kang.” Kung Lao immediately accepted, bowing to the god. You smiled. A bit cocky, but he was eager and enthusiastic. Although hesitant at first, you watched as Madam Bo convinced Raiden to leave Fengjian to join.
“Excellent.” Liu Kang said, looking between the two farmer boys. He looked back to you and gestured to you before himself. “We shall join you soon. First, there are other champions we must gather.” He declared. He then nodded to the others.
Everyone took this as dismissal, and began to disperse.
“Not yet, Bi-Han.” You warned as your grip on his arm tightened. You felt his arm grow colder, a sign he was irritated. You ignored the pointed look he sent you as you let go and reached into a pocket of your clothes. From it, you extracted a small medical set you carried with you. “I want to get this patched up before you all disappear on me.” You muttered as you began to patch up the cut.
“This is unnecessary.” The Lin Kuei grandmaster huffed, yet he did not pull away. You sent him another pointed look. This time, Bi-Han held your own gaze. You had a small staring contest for a moment, and if you did not need to clean his wound, you would have been willing to challenge him longer. You could feel him silently basking in the tiny victory as you looked away to clean the cut.
You hummed as you secured the bandages around his arm after you cleaned it up. With a smile, you nodded pleased at the work you did on the wound. He eyed you, almost as if silently asking permission if he could leave now. You knew he was too prideful to ask that directly, and you were too stubborn to let him leave before you were done.
“Good performance out there.” You praised Bi-Han. He continued to stare you down. Despite his icy disposition, you could sense there was a hint of pride at the praise you sent his way. His eyebrows unfurrowed a tiny before, and he nodded slightly. “You can go now.” You said, patting his arm slightly. Almost too eagerly, he strode off.
“Congratulations on being trusted to train the future champions.” Scorpion said as he stepped up to you. Kuai Liang was always more warm than his brother, both literally and personality wise. You smiled awkwardly, having been reminded of the sudden duty that you had been told about.
“Thank you, Kuai Liang.” You said, sighing as you scratched the back of your neck nervously. You glanced at the farmer duo who were helping clean up the tea house along with a few of the other Lin Kuei. “It’s an honor…and a surprise.” You reveal, shrugging anxiously.
“I’m certain you shall do great.” Kuai Liang comforted you, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. Your smile turned into a soft one as you took in the encouragement from the Lin Kuei assassin. If he believed in you, you had to be worthy of the position.
“Kuai Liang!” Bi-Han called out from above. You both looked up, and you were surprised at the intensity of the look he was sending his brother. You raised an eyebrow as you looked at Bi-Han, who simply sent you a cold look before looking away and gesturing for his brother to come upstairs. Scorpion sent you an apologetic look for the conversation being cut short before he walked away upstairs.
You followed suit, following the yellow clad assassin up the stairs. You found yourself upstairs, and walked over to Smoke who was helping his fellow Lin Kuei clean up. You walked over and helped upright a chair as you sent Tomas a sly grin.
“So, you threw an old lady over a railing.” You teased as you sent him a mock disapproving glare. The man cleared his throat as he averted his eyes, almost embarrassed at the reminder of what he had done. “And you were quite the thug.”
“I insisted on simply knocking her out, but she wanted me to go all out.” Smoke said, and you could barely see the hints of a flush on his cheeks at your teasing. He seemed to shake off his embarrassment and send you a lighthearted look. “And you may have not been convinced, but those two certainly were.”
You let out a hearty laugh, remembering the convinced looks of the duo. You glanced at them down below, who were now conversing again with Madam Bo. You rolled your eyes and conceded.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
Almost as quickly as they came, the Lin Kuei quickly left after the tea house was mostly fixed up. As they left, you sent a small goodbye to the trio of brothers, not knowing when you’d see them next. You also bid goodbye to Madam Bo as well as Raiden and Kung Lao, who seemed enthusiastic to have been able to greet you.
Stepping outside, you took in the crisp, clean air of the night sky. You closed your eyes, and felt the presence of someone step next to you.
“So, what did you think?” Liu Kang inquired, looking over to you with a curious look. His glowing eyes stood out among the dark night sky, and you admired them for a moment. You then took in the question and hummed, tilting your head to look up at the night sky.
The excitement of tonight still buzzed in your veins.
“That was amazing.”

Ever since the Sully family moved to Awa’atlu, whether for better, or for the worst, they became the center of attention. Despite the initial wariness of their nature, villagers eventually seemed to warm up to them, making their stay more comfortable. But unlike the others, you remained hesitant to approach them, your father's warnings of their 'demon-blood' weighing heavily on your mind. It was only in these rare moments, when you couldn't help but notice their oldest son, Neteyam.
“Where were you? I needed you there exactly for situations like this,” Jake raised his voice at Neteyam, “You’re supposed to look after your siblings!”
You watched from a distance, observing the way Neteyam hunched in shame and nodded his head in acceptance of the fault, the way he’d blink rapidly to avoid the tears welling up in his eyes, every time his father’s voice would get louder. It was a familiar sight to you, one that brought back memories of your own father raising his voice at you for disappointing him.
“I’m sorry, sir,” Neteyam expressed with sincere guilt in his voice, “I promise I’ll do better next time.”
“I know,” Jake sighed, “Dismissed.”
Jake's pained expression mirrored the face of your own father after his angry outbursts. Ever since your mother's passing, the responsibility of caring for your younger brother Tewtxey had fallen on your shoulders. Your father was tough on you, stricter than the other parents. He believed that protection meant safety, rarely showing you any tenderness. But he had no idea how much his tough love only made you rougher around the edges and deepened the resentment you felt towards him. You despised him in the depths of your heart, unable to make up for his harsh ways with the love you craved from him.
The sight of Neteyam rushing off into the trees tugged at your heartstrings. You guessed that he was in a hurry to find a private corner where he could finally break down. But as much as you wanted to trail after him and tell him that you understood, that it was no big deal to mess up sometimes, you couldn’t. You weren’t close like that, in fact, your interactions had been limited to mere greetings exchanged in passing. Yet, you had witnessed the way his father scolded him for his siblings’ troublemaking on many occasions now, and it felt like you knew him. You were already struggling to take care of one sibling, you couldn’t imagine how hard it was on him to keep an eye on three.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
“And what were you thinking leaving Tewtxey alone?” your father was pacing around your marui, tail swishing aggressively from side to side.
You winced when he halted directly in front of you, waiting expectantly for an answer. It was easy for you to tune him out whenever he went on long angry rants, counting down minutes for him to cool down, but whenever he wanted you to answer him, that was when you felt your blood boil. Admitting to your mistakes verbally, without sounding defensive, was a challenge.
“He wasn’t alone,” you muttered under your breath.
“What?”
“I said, he wasn’t alone. He was with Tuktirey, and her father was watching them,” you raised your head slightly to look at his face.
“I told you I do not trust that demon,” your father spat through gritted teeth, “How could you leave your little brother with him?”
“Dad, he is the Toruk Makto. Hasn’t he proved himself to be one of us?” you felt irritated with your father’s stubbornness.
You knew that it was a sensitive subject for him. Having lost his mate to a stupid, pointless interaction with sky people, he was forever in deep hatred towards them. He was conflicted when he first found out about Toruk Makto’s past. It was difficult to respect someone who was a dreamwalker, whose children were only 'half-Na’vi.'
“You dare to challenge me?” he raised his voice at you, sending a shiver down your spine, “All I ask of you is to protect your brother! Is it so hard to listen to me? Is it so hard to understand why your mother is no longer here?”
He hit a nerve with the last question. Of course, ever since her passing, you missed your mother terribly. She was the balance in your family, the gentle touch you craved. But instead of bonding over the loss, your relationship with your father grew more distant. Suddenly, you were too reckless for him, too distracted. He was scared of how much you resembled your mother, of the possibility of the same fate befalling you.
“I’m sorry,” you hung your head in defeat.
Your father began pacing around the room again, his mind searching for another reason to scold you for. It seemed like it wasn’t enough to make you understand how disappointed he was. He stopped, when his eyes landed on the spear resting against the wall. You drew in a sharp breath, realizing that you had forgotten to sharpen the weapon for his upcoming hunt.
“What is this?” he gripped the spear tightly, pointing it accusingly at you, “Are you abandoning your chores now?”
“I forgot about it,” you mumbled.
“I cannot understand what could be keeping you so occupied all day that you neglect your duties. What kind of behavior is this, Y/N?”
Taking the spear from his hand, you stepped back, feeling the sting of tears behind your eyes. It wasn't his disappointment that frustrated you; it was his inability to see things from your perspective. He didn’t understand how hard it was on you to grow up without a mother, to always be strong in front of him.
“I’ll do it now,” you promised, taking another step back, “May I go now?”
“Go!” your father shouted.
You fled the marui, gasping for breath to calm yourself down. It felt like all the emotions you had been suppressing came crashing down on you at once. But before you could even begin to process them, the sight in front of you captured your attention.
Your brother was standing with his back turned to you, Neteyam crouched down in front of him not too far. They were playing some sort of game with their hands, when the pair of golden eyes followed your walk up to them. Your brother seemed to pay you no mind, but Neteyam lifted his gaze to greet you with his thick accent.
You only nodded, pursing your lips together and deciding to send away your brother after he’s finished with the game. As you watched them play, it wasn’t hard to notice how distracted Neteyam was by your presence. He’d constantly glance at you to read your expressions, and you guessed he heard the argument that was unraveling minutes ago. Taking advantage of his opponent’s distraction, your brother exclaimed in victory.
“Good job,” Neteyam smiled, patting your brother’s head.
“Y/N, did you see?” Tewtxey looked up to you with a bright smile. You were forced to return it, placing an arm around his shoulder.
“I did. Now go home and eat, alright?”
Your gentle approach has always worked wonders with your little brother, unlike your father's strictness. He usually obeyed you without hesitation. Tewtxey smiled at Neteyam one last time before leaving the two of you alone. Neteyam stood up, looming over you with his frame.
“He was bouncing around here and looked scared to go in,” he began to explain, “I just wanted to distract him before things cooled down.”
You nodded in agreement. You were always worried that Tewtxey would get caught in the crossfire of your arguments with your father. He was too young to be involved.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Neteyam’s gaze softened, eyes roaming over your features again.
Given the distance from your marui, Neteyam had likely heard everything. He seemed to be curious about how much you were hiding, how the pained expression on your face a few minutes ago was now replaced by a neutral one. You shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, the weight of the spear in your hand suddenly seeming heavier.
“Well, I have to go,” you cleared your throat, stepping back.
“Are you alright?” he asked, concerned.
You nodded, turning to leave. Neteyam trailed after you as you walked towards the far end of the beach. When you sat down to sharpen the spear, he joined you and plopped down quietly beside you.
“Are you sure you’re alright? That sounded harsh,” he broke the silence.
You blinked rapidly, not daring to meet his golden eyes. Instead, you tried focusing at the task on hand, your motions quick and rough, attempting to make the tip of the spear as pointed as you could. The wood occasionally nicked your fingers, causing stinging pain, but you paid no attention to it. Neteyam watched you silently for a moment, before he reached out and took the spear from your hands, setting it aside. You exhaled, finally meeting his eyes.
“I'm alright. My father just doesn’t know how to handle this by himself."
“Handle what by himself?”
“Me, I guess…raising me. Without mom by his side.”
You were a mystery to Neteyam from the first day of his arrival, always keeping a distance with him, as your father’s harsh gaze grazed his family whenever they crossed paths in public. Neteyam didn’t really understand the reason for the dislike but the argument he overheard earlier helped him piece together some of the puzzle.
“I’m sorry about your mom,” he said quietly, “Ao’nung mentioned it once to us. It must have been hard without her.”
“Thanks,” you mumbled, turning your gaze towards the horizon.
The gentle sound of waves crashing against each other accompanied the sunset, casting a sparkling glow on the water.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
After that moment you shared with Neteyam, you often found yourself running into each other. Whether it was after a fight with your father, or a stressful day for Neteyam, you somehow managed to offer each other a listening ear.
It was easy to open up to him, when you knew he could relate. His eyes always softened at the sight of you, arms instinctively reaching out to pat you on the back whenever you sobbed into his chest after another heavy argument. It seemed like with age, your father was becoming more unbearable, and refused to understand you on any given matter.
“What did he say?” Neteyam asked, his voice laced with concern.
“Well, he saw us hanging out, so make your guess,” you let out a bitter chuckle, wiping your face.
Neteyam couldn’t help but feel partially guilty for the treatment you were getting. He knew about your father's disapproval of him, but he couldn't resist spending time with you and offering comfort after a fight, even if he was the cause of it. You were the only person with whom he could share his own struggles, and feel accepted.
Of course, hanging out with Neteyam was also a way for you to rebel against your father's orders and show him that he couldn't control you. He didn’t realize that it was his hatred that pushed you further into Neteyam’s arms.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
As the weeks passed, your friendship with Neteyam grew stronger. There was something special between you but you failed to see the impact you were having on Neteyam's life. You had become the first thought on his mind every morning, his trainings passed in hopes to see you. When he was with you, he wished for time to stand still. And when he went to sleep, he anticipated dreaming about you. But Neteyam was fully aware of the risks of catching feelings for someone whose family despised him.
So he bit his tongue, hoping that you wouldn’t notice it. That maybe with time, things will get better. He was from a different clan, and your father had a clear disdain for him. Even if you reciprocate his feelings, pursuing you would be complicated, if not impossible. But he couldn't deny the warmth he felt in his chest every time he saw you, the way his heart fluttered when you laughed at his jokes. He couldn't help but wonder if there was a chance for something more between you two, yet he was forced to push the thought aside.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
But jealousy is a disease that brings out the worst in one. Neteyam felt it brewing inside him, as he intensely watched you talking to Ao’nung. Despite knowing about your close friendship with Ao’nung, Neteyam didn’t like him. The way his smile widened every time you said something, the way he stood so close to you…it made his blood boil.
He tried hard to focus on sharpening his arrow, not to raise suspicion in Tsireya and Lo'ak next to him, but his eyes kept drifting to you and Ao'nung. With another stroke of his knife, he accidentally grazed his finger, catching Tsireya’s attention.
“Lo’ak, could you please bring me my shawl? It’s getting chilly,” she asked, her eyes big and innocent.
Lo’ak stood up without a question, not paying attention to his brother’s strange behavior. As soon as he was out of earshot, Tsireya turned her concerned gaze back to Neteyam. He was still watching you with Ao’nung, now sitting down on the sand, your knees touching, deep in a conversation. He had never even heard Ao’nung speak to his friends for more than five minutes, what could he possibly be saying to captivate your attention for so long? Neteyam scoffed in disbelief.
“Is something bothering you?” Tsireya asked. His head snapped to her, embarrassed that he got caught.
“Nothing,” he shook his head, returning to the task at hand.
For a moment, Neteyam pondered whether he should ask Tsireya about her brother. Find out if the rumors he had heard from Rotxo were true, if there was a possibility of you being promised to Ao'nung.
“Tsireya, can I ask you something?” he lowered his voice.
“Sure,” she nodded. When Neteyam hesitated to continue, looking around, she reassured him, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”
“Um…Is it true that Ao’nung and Y/N are to become mated?”
Tsireya frowned slightly, and Neteyam couldn’t tell if it was because of his sudden interest in the matter, or because it was untrue. He gulped, secretly hoping it was the latter. She took a long pause before answering.
“Sorry, you caught me off guard,” she apologized, “I just haven’t heard that rumor in a long time.”
“So, it is a rumor?”
“They haven’t promised themselves to each other as mates, if that’s what you’re afraid of,” Tsireya elaborated, making Neteyam cringe in embarrassment, “But I wouldn’t put it past them.”
“What do you mean?” his ears perked up at the implication.
“Well…” she sighed, “Ao’nung and Y/N always have been close friends. And my father is quite vocal about his admiration for her. He thinks she can be a good mate to Ao’nung, when he becomes the chief.”
Neteyam's eyes darted all over Tsireya's face, trying to understand if there was anything else she wasn’t saying.
"What about Y/N?" he asked, quickly glancing in your direction, "Does she like him? Does she feel pressured because of your father or something?"
“Any girl would feel pressured by my father, but I cannot speak for Y/N,” she answered honestly, “If it makes you feel easy, Y/N and Ao’nung never crossed their boundaries.”
Neteyam hummed in agreement but he didn’t understand anything. His mind was racing with questions, yet he didn’t have the answers. How come Tsireya did not know if you liked her brother? Were you into him? Even if you weren’t, wouldn’t you reciprocate the feelings of the future chief? Surely, Ao’nung wasn't the easiest person to be around, but he seemed different with you.
“Maybe you should ask her about it. You’re friends,” Tsireya nudged him.
Friends.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
“You’re quiet,” you pointed out, as Neteyam dragged his feet after you, deep into the trees.
“I’m usually quiet,” he muttered.
“Not like this,” you disagreed, gauging for further clarification but Neteyam remained silent.
You did not know that there was a burning desire to confess his feelings to you raging in Neteyam’s mind. Despite Tsireya’s uncertainty the evening prior, Neteyam had already convinced himself that there was something going on between you and the future Olo'eyktan. So he felt rushed to tell you about your feelings, to prevent you from mating with Ao’nung.
But he couldn't help but wonder if he would truly be the best thing for you. What could he offer to you? He was a forest Na’vi, who did not know the way of water, who was useless in the sea. He was unfamiliar to your traditions, his whole life Neteyam prepared for leading the clan, but in Awa’atlu he had nothing to give.
To make matters worse, he found himself competing against the chief's son, someone you had grown up with and knew very well.  And Neteyam could never replace that kind of relationship. Did you ever see him past your friendship, the way he saw you? The doubt and insecurity were consuming him from within.
“Is it because of my father?” you decided to guess, stopping in your tracks.
Neteyam walked past you, shaking his head. You pondered for a moment, before following him.
“Did my little brother break something when you let him play with your stuff the other day?”
Neteyam ignored your guess, holding back the big leaves in your way, waiting for you to catch up. He was deep in his thoughts, yet remained gentle and caring with you. Your gaze softened at the gesture.
“Did I do something wrong?”
He held your gaze without answering. That was it.
“What did I do?” your eyebrows shot up in surprise.
“Nothing, you did nothing wrong.”
“If it were nothing, you wouldn’t be tuning me out. I must have done something wrong,” you nudged his shoulder for a reply.
“I was just thinking…” he sighed, meeting your eyes, “Is it true about you and Ao’nung?”
“What about me and Ao’nung?”
“That you’re going to be mates.”
You snorted in disbelief. Although it was a topic of countless conversations with your father, who was eager to arrange a match between his daughter and the future Olo'eyktan, you were too stubborn to comply with your father’s wishes, instead of your own. You and Ao'nung had a strong friendship, sharing almost everything with each other, but it was just that. Friendship.
“That’s ridiculous, where’d you hear that?” you quirked your eyebrow at him.
“Rotxo.”
“It’s just a silly rumor that’s been going around since we were kids,” you rolled your eyes. You especially despised it a few years back, when people started teasing you for hampering other girls from pursuing Ao’nung.
“So you’re just friends?” Neteyam asked, his tone more hopeful.
“Just friends,” you confirmed, “He is like a brother to me.”
“I don’t think he sees you like a sister, Y/N.”
“Why do you care?” you teased him, “Are you jealous?”
“Why would I be jealous of Ao’nung?” he scoffed.
“No reason,” you snickered, walking past him into the clearing.
Neteyam followed after you eagerly, his steps quickening to catch up. You tried to hide a devilish smirk, knowing that you'd pique his interest.
"What is it that Ao’nung has that I don't?"
"Let it go, Neteyam," you swatted at him with your hand. "I'm not going to compare my two friends to each other."
Neteyam pursed his lips, annoyed that he had to drop the subject. He knew that if he pushed too far, he'd be caught in his own trap, coming undone in front of you. There was something about you that made him feel exposed, and he was afraid that you would see right through him.
“Here it is,” you pointed at the spear on the ground. You had lost it the evening prior, and Neteyam was sure you dropped it around here.
“Told you,” he murmured, beating you to it and picking up the spear for himself.
“Thank Eywa,” you grinned at him, “Now let’s go back. If father sees you carrying my spear, he’ll be so annoyed!”
It was an innocent joke. The way you said it wasn’t mischievous, at least not towards Neteyam. You only enjoyed the irritation growing in your father, whenever he saw you spending time with the ‘demon-kid.’ In a strange way, you felt like you were fighting him back. But to Neteyam it was stressful to bear your father’s angry glances. He didn’t like pushing it.
“Is that all this friendship is to you?” his sudden insecurity caught you off guard.
“Huh?”
"Getting back at your father? Is that the only reason you hang out with me, just to piss him off?" his voice grew more accusatory.
“Where is this coming from?” you chuckled in disbelief, “Are you serious?”
“I am,” Neteyam gulped down, “Would you still spend time with me, if your father didn’t hate me so much? I can tell this is how you repay him for being harsh with you. But it’s unfair to me. You don’t get to use me as a tool of your rebellion, don’t get to play with my feelings like that.”
“Neteyam,” you exhaled, now speaking seriously, “I would never let him control my life to the point where he decides whom I befriend. I like spending time with you because of you. You’re very dear to me.”
Neteyam fell silent, doubts bouncing around in his golden eyes. You held his gaze, trying to convince him of the sincerity of your words.
“Do you believe me?”
“I guess,” he shook his head, “I just have a hard time believing anyone genuinely likes me.”
“What are you on about?” you neared him, “The whole village has grown fond of you. I mean, even Ao’nung… He used to fight with you, but now he’s hanging out with Lo’ak like nothing happened.”
“Exactly, he’s hanging out with Lo’ak, not me. He still doesn’t like me,” Neteyam said, his lips twitching with a hint of a smile.
“You dislike him,” you disagreed.
“Only because he hates me.”
“He doesn’t hate you, he just…” you sighed, already regretting what you were about to reveal, “He just thinks that you’re stealing me from him.”
“Stealing you? Is he jealous or something?” an amused smile creeped onto Neteyam’s face.
“I guess. Ao’nung is possessive, you know, he doesn’t like to share.”
“Well then, I guess he’ll just have to deal with it.”
As Neteyam turned on his heels, his braids swayed around with a mind of their own. You watched him walk towards the village, gripping your spear, a slight spring in his step. You could already feel the punishment you’d get, once Neteyam uses this new information against Ao’nung.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
“Hey, play nice,” you called out to Tuk and your little brother, as they were actively splashing water over each other.
While it was mostly playful, kids their age could easily get too competitive and excited. You propped yourself on your elbows, watching them play in the shallow water. After a fight with your dad, it was now your responsibility to watch Tewtxey whenever he played with Tuk. If it weren’t for your protests, your father wouldn’t even allow their friendship to flourish, so this was the only compromise that you managed to agree upon. You grinned as you watched how happy your brother was, his little giggles filling the air around you with a warm glow. It was in moments like these that you especially missed your mother. You wished she could be there to see her youngest making a friend.
“Babysitting duty?” a thick-accented voice called out, before Neteyam came into your view.
You rolled your eyes at him, earning a low chuckle. Neteyam sat next to you on the sand, his hand brushing past your thigh. You tried to ignore the flush in your cheeks.
“Is your father okay with this?” he pried, gesturing at the kids.
“As long as I keep an eye on them,” you replied with a sigh, “But don’t worry about it, it’s only temporary. My father will get over it.”
“How come?”
“Well, it’s hard not to like Tuk,” you turned your face to look at Neteyam, “And my father has a soft spot for kids. He’s not good with me, but he’s good with Tewtxey and his friends.”
“You think if you have Tuk around enough, he’ll warm up to her?” Neteyam guessed.
“Definitely,” you nodded, “It’d take some time but he’ll like her. She’s a good kid.”
“Okay,” Neteyam agreed, “What about me, though?”
“Hm? What about you?” you asked playfully, catching a hint of a smile on his lips.
“Do you have any ideas on how to get your father to warm up to me?"
“Why would I want that? It wouldn’t be as fun,” you teased him.
“Well, I could argue that it's best for your father to like his daughter's future mate, don't you agree?" Neteyam's voice was light-hearted and playful, yet your heart started racing in your chest.
“W-what?” you stuttered.
“You heard me,” he chuckled.
He couldn’t help but feel satisfied with your reaction, it was certain to him that you might have felt something for him too. It was the first time Neteyam blatantly tested the waters for a sign, and you didn’t let him down. He turned his face to continue watching the kids, acting nonchalantly, as if he hadn’t just dropped a bombshell.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
Ao’nung pushed you down, his arm firmly planted on your chest, while his other arm quickly snuck around your back to try and flip you over. You protested, pushing against his ribs, trapping his legs with your thighs. You were fake wrestling on the sand, both of you trying to get the upper hand.
“Just give up,” Ao’nung huffed, as you struggled against him.
“Never, skxawng,” you huffed back, determined to win the friendly match.
“Get off her!” a thick accent cut through the air, and you caught a glimpse of blue hands grabbing Ao’nung by the neck and pulling him off you.
In a matter of seconds, Neteyam attacked Ao’nung with a flurry of punches, one of them landing right on the confused boy’s cheekbone. Angrily, Ao’nung hit him back in the face, and before things could escalate further, you jumped in between the two with an angry hiss.
“Back off, both of you!”
“How dare you hit her?” Neteyam ignored you, trying to reach for Ao’nung.
“We were just playing, Neteyam, calm down,” you said, pushing him back slightly and taking a protective stance in front of Ao’nung.
“Who plays like that? You could’ve hurt her!” Neteyam growled.
“It is none of your business, anyway, skxawng,” Ao’nung stepped forward, looking him up and down.
“Ao’nung, stop,” you exhaled in frustration, then turned to Neteyam, “I’m okay, you didn’t have to protect me.”
“He thinks he has some sort of claim over you because he likes you,” Ao’nung let out a bitter chuckle, “She doesn’t need your useless ass guarding her.”
“What did you say?” Neteyam took an angry step towards him, but you quickly extended your arm to prevent him.
“Neteyam, stop,” you pleaded with him.
Neteyam hesitated, his gaze flickering between you and Ao'nung. He clenched his fists, his posture still tense, but he took a step back. His lip was bleeding.
“Let's all just go to Tsahik,” you said softly, turning towards Ao'nung, “Are you okay?”
Ao'nung nodded, wincing as you touched his swollen cheekbone. Before you could even grab Neteyam’s arm, to make him follow after you, he was already storming off, a sense of betrayal pitting in the bottom of his stomach.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
“No matter how much your father scolds you, it is never enough,” Ronal tsked in disapproval, as she treated Ao’nung’s wounds.
“I told you, that skxawng attacked me first,” Ao’nung rolled his eyes at his mother, earning a low hiss from her.
“It was just a misunderstanding,” you explained, feeling the urge to justify Neteyam in front of the Tsahik, “He thought that you were hurting me.”
“Neteyam is a good boy,” Ronal stood up, signaling that she was done, “You’re nice to Lo’ak, you should be nice to him too”
“Lo’ak is still a kid, he can learn from me,” Ao’nung rolled his eyes, “But Neteyam is too arrogant.”
“Neteyam is not arrogant. In fact, the two of you have many similarities,” you added, earning a supportive nod from Ronal.
Ao’nung ignored you, as he thanked his mother and walked out of the marui. You couldn't help but feel guilty for leaving Neteyam untreated.
“Tsahik, do you think I could take some of that balm to Neteyam?” you asked hesitantly, “I’ll get it back to you as soon as I’m done.”
“Take your time.”
You walked out, determined to find Neteyam, a bowl of white paste nestled gently in your hand. You were surprised to find Ao’nung lingering around the marui, kicking the rocks under his feet out of boredom.
“You should stop playing with him if you don’t want him to get the wrong idea,” he commented, acknowledging your presence.
“I’m not playing with anyone,” you frowned in response.
“Come on, Y/N,” Ao’nung looked up at you with a smug smile, “Surely, you can see that the boy is head over heels for you.”
“Who? Neteyam?” you were taken aback.
“Who else?”
“Nonsense, he sees me as a friend.”
“Whatever,” Ao’nung rolled his eyes at you in annoyance, “I’m just saying, you should tell him the truth. Whether you like him or not, he needs to know. I’m tired of him shooting daggers at me, whenever I talk to you.”
Did he really believe that Neteyam liked you? You could only hope that Ao’nung was right, that this was the only matter when you couldn’t see right through Neteyam.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
When you reached Sully's marui, you spotted Tuk standing at the entrance, as if guarding someone. Upon catching sight of you, she ran up to you, grabbing your wrist.
“Y/N, Neteyam is hurt!” she exclaimed, “He won’t let me get mom to take care of him.”
“Is he alone?” you asked, following after her. She nodded, “Don’t worry, I’ll help him, okay?”
Tuk hung back at the entrance as you walked into the marui. Neteyam was sitting on the ground, shooting an annoyed look at his little sister. She quickly ran away, before he could even open his mouth.
“How come you never listen to me?” you started light-heartedly, approaching him.
“Why are you here? Aren’t you too busy taking care of Ao’nung?” he frowned at you.
You only shook your head, crouching down in front of him. He had wiped away the blood, but you could still see the cut on his wounded lip. It definitely stung when he spoke.
“I wanted you to come with us to Tsahik, why did you run away?”
“Didn’t want to interrupt your moment with him,” Neteyam answered through his gritted teeth.
You were confused by his sudden behavior. Sure, it might have been a little embarrassing to misinterpret the situation and react to it, but you wondered if there was something else bothering Neteyam. Was Ao’nung right? Without talking, you used one of his shoulders to rely on him, as you leaned in. Neteyam relaxed under your touch, letting you apply the medicine to his wounded lips without much protest. You let your finger graze over his face for a little longer before pulling away.
“Better?” you asked, earning a grateful nod.
As the sight of his bruised knuckles caught your attention, you immediately picked up his hand. He must have been furious, thinking he was protecting you from Ao’nung. Neteyam flinched, when you brought his hand closer to your face.
“Mawey,” you whispered, before placing a soft kiss to his knuckles.
He watched you quietly, trying to calm his breathing. You weren’t sure what exactly you were doing, but it just felt right to comfort him this way. To show him that you weren’t betraying him, that you wanted him to be safe. When you turned his hand for further examination of wounds, your fingers grazed over the small cuts and calluses on his palms. You guessed they were from his training, and your heart swelled a little with admiration at the thought. It was a reminder of Neteyam's dedication and strength, the very same reason why you started seeing him in a different light. You looked up at him, your eyes conveying your unspoken admiration.
“Why are you upset with me?” you asked softly.
“Because you chose him over me,” he mumbled, his tone offended, yet he allowed you to hold his hand in yours.
“I wasn’t choosing anyone. It wasn’t about picking sides.”
“But you did,” he shook his head, “Whether you admit it or not, your first instinct was to protect him.”
“You attacked him first, Neteyam. I was only defending my friend,” you tried to break through his stubbornness.
“I am your friend too,” he pursed his lips again.
"Well, I kind of hoped that you were more than just a friend," you exhaled, letting go of his hand.
Neteyam's mouth hung open in shock, and you wondered if he had picked up on the double meaning in your words.
"I don't understand," he sat up straight, his gaze fixed on you, "Are you saying that you don't want us to be just friends?"
"Yes,” you felt a wave of frustration washing over you, “You can be so dense sometimes. Has it ever occurred to you that I like you?”
Neteyam's face lit up with a smile, and he reached out to cup your face in his hands.
"I could only hope for you to feel that way," he said, his eyes shining with pure happiness, “Oel ngati kameie, Y/N.”
“Oel ngati kameie,” you whispered, feeling tears of joy welling up in your eyes.
You had never cried out of happiness before, but in that moment, knowing that Neteyam truly saw you, the real you, and loved you for it, you couldn't help it. Neteyam let out a confused chuckle, but quickly gathered you into his arms, holding you close and comforting you, as you cried onto his chest.
“I didn’t want to make you cry, silly,” he whispered softly into your hair, amusement evident in his voice.

“When the blood burns, how prodigal the soul lends the tongue vows.”
-Hamlet, Act 1.3.115
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Metkayina Village: 08:00
The sun glazed and glistened on your blue skin, as your long hair flowed behind you in the reef. You were trying your best to calm down, to relax your body. First your arms, your legs, your tail. You were one with the water. Eywa was watching over you.
Everything was okay, yes?
It might have been. Your eyes jolted open, adjusting to the sunlight reflecting on the azure waters, adjusting your flower that was in your hair. You had to look your best, after all. It might have been fine — until you felt a sharp pang in your lower abdomen and back. Could it be? You were under the impression that your heat was only a few days away. Yet here it was — starting early.
You quickly call your ilu, riding it to the outskirts of the side of the reef, to a little hidden alcove right outside where the calm reef met the roaring waves of the ocean. You spoke to your mate through the bond— showing him where you were.
Whenever your heat or his rut came, the both of you had a place to hide, to let your carnal desires consume the both of you.
You pet your ilu as it felt your pain, disconnecting your queues. You managed to crawl inside the warm, almost hot pool of water in the alcove, as you ran your fingers over your songcord, remembering the time you mated for the first time, in this very cave. It brought you comfort.
You clutched your stomach harder, wincing. You wonder how Tonowari has dealt with your children in order to come see you here.
~ Metkayina Village ~
It has started to rain heavily. Tonowari puts his long hair in a bun, as he shushes your two little children: a four year old and a three month old, letting them know that their grandmother will come take care of them: the former Tsahik. She arrives, and Carrie’s them further into the hut. Tonowari helps tuck them in under a blanket.
Blankets were rarely used, yet they served a good purpose when it was a bit cold and rainy. The man then races to his tsurak — clicking, calling it. He jumps on with his powerful legs, a look of worry on his face as he races to the alcove.
—————————
You sit in the warm water, now shivering. The pain was even worse. You hear the shriek of the tsurak as your mate steps into the alcove. “Mawey. Mawey, my love, it is heat, yes?,” he asks, stepping towards you, a caring and concerned expression on his face. You nod, looking up into his eyes. He shushes you, as his big hands wrap around your body, one placed on your belly, massaging it where the pain should be.
“Wari…it hurts. Tsahelyu…please..,” you quietly ask him. He smiles, and obliges, wincing, connecting your queues so he can take your pain away. You sigh, leaning into his wide and muscular chest, tracing over the tattoos on his arms. You feel a pair of lips on your cheek and neck, his gentle kisses as a way to calm you more.
“Mawey, ma sevin (pretty.) I am here now. I always will come to help my mate, especially when she is in heat. When she looks so beautiful…and smells it too..,” he trails off, giving you another wet and warm kiss on your cheek, with a hint of a little growl behind his voice. You feel his fangs start to nip at your ear.
“Olo’eyktan always takes care of his mate, my flower. You just stay there, be good for me, yes?,” he asks, you feel more of his sharp fangs with the more nips and kisses he gives you.
“Ma wari, okay. Please… hurts..,” you breathily moan out, feeling a bit more than bothered by his bulging biceps around you, and his wet kisses trailing down to your neck.
He gruffly inhales, scenting you. Your heat must have gotten to him — made him feral for you. That’s what you loved the most about mating cycles. The passion <3 how well he took care of you.
“So beautiful. Soft. Just what I need after a hunt, ma yuey (flower),” he whispers to you as his large hands start massaging your hips, manhandling you closer to him, his large chest pressing against your small back.
His thick arms make you feel so safe, as you lower your head back into him. You feel a rumbling in his chest that makes you want him desperately, his long hair on your shoulders, his blue eyes intensely focused on his prize: you.
His arms trail down towards your legs, forcefully spreading them open, your thighs hanging limp over his forearms as he inspects his panting and moaning prey <3
“My yuey smells so good. Your heat, just for me, yes?,” he taunts with his deep voice and a bit of a growl, his hands manhandle you onto his lap, legs still spread, a thick finger or two begins exploring your hot and wet pussy <3
His fingers were just what you needed, you began to rub yourself against them, itching for that kind of relief. Your usually teal blue complexion was a bit darker now, tongue out, panting.
You knew he loved seeing you like this.
“Taking your warrior so well, ma mate, my bunny. Your heat is so strong this time, ma yuey, you smell so good, so ready for me, to breed you…,” he whispers with a hint of a growl again.
You can barely respond, getting so much pleasure from humping and riding his fingers like a feral animal, tongue out, eyes closed, that you didn’t notice when his bulging biceps came to push you up and off him, grabbing you by your hips and pushing you down on your stomach.
“Does my mate want to be bred like the good little one she is?,” he taunts, running his humongous hands over the back of your hips and ass, groping it so tightly that you thought you saw stars. Connected by tsahelyu, he felt your mind swimming in thoughts of blank desire, white, hot, burning.
You mindlessly nod as you instinctively arch your back up for him to see how ready you were. You just wanted your womb to be full of him, of his throbbing cock. Nothing more. You wanted it minutes ago.
He growls again, roughly pushing his huge body against your backside, the both of your tails intertwining. You can feel the muscular back of his thigh against yours, keeping you in place for what’s about to come. His cloth comes off. You turn around.
“Ma yuey. Eyes forward,” a very low and serious tone rang out from him. His face was stoic. You knew better. You quickly turned your face back around to the slightly dripping water of the alcove. Tonowari was usually level headed and friendly, calm, and welcoming. That is what made him such a wonderful Olo’eyktan and leader. Such a wonderful mate to you. Yet — you did not want your mate angry. You did not like him when he was angry. Your heat; unfortunately, usually induced this state for him.
He growls this time, louder, claims you, his mate, his prey, with a bite to the shoulder with his sharp fangs. You wail out a moan, as you feel his throbbing balls up against your hot cunt. Without warning, he thrusts his entire twelve inch length into you, stilling for a moment to enjoy the heat of your cunt.
“Haaah…,” he trails off, clearly loving how welcoming your heat induced pussy was to his length. You feel him throb and pulse inside you, you felt so full, so full of him, you squealed and moaned as you squeezed around him in an attempt to get him to move.
“Patience, ma munxtate,” a warning from him, alongside a slap on the ass. “Yes, ma Olo’eyktan,” you answer back, as obedient as you could. “Good. I want my beautiful mate on her best behavior, yes?,” he asks, warningly. You nod, as he bends over, his face next to yours, giving you a little nip on the ear.
“Stay.” One word with a serious undertone to it. You were not to move, no matter how rough he used you. Eywa — you loved being his little toy, especially when you were in heat.
“Ma wari. Please…please..,” you begged him, you wanted him to start moving, to start pounding into you like the insane beast he was. He didn’t move. You were about to cry, until you squealed when he pulled you into him, now his large body was laying down on the floor of the alcove, in the water. Your backside on top of him, cock intact, inside you.
He started moving. One thing you loved about him — he was big. Not just big, not just more than average than another na’vi. Huge. 12 inches — yet the girth. The girth he had was insanely wide, perfect to go alongside his plump ballsack <3
Here was this girth, pumping in and out of you, his knees bounced your tiny body up and down on his cock. You were about to explode with white, hot, pleasure. You loved being forcefully rocked on his huge length, that reached so deep inside you — like you were his puppet, under total command and control. His control.
You were his — undoubtedly.
His cock started drilling into you deeper, until you felt that tightness coming up in your belly. His fingers were gripping your arms and neck harshly, keeping you in place for him to use.
“That’s it, syulang. Come for me, my mate, mother of my children,” he coos at you, his squared jaw and face full of adoration. His bulky arms continue caging you into his body, as you keep cumming, screaming, chanting his name like it’s your mating vows…
Wari, Wari, Wari.
You were his.
Even after you came, he kept going. Chasing that high, using you to bring him to finish. After he was done, he took you by the hand, and led you to his now flaccid but still inflamed cock. “Lick, my yuey. Clean me.”
You obeyed, arching your back, squatting on your knees, puffy pussy on display for him. He growled a bit again, infatuated by your position.
You make slow, little, kitten licks at his cock, making sure to get every last drop. You felt so full, with his cum in your womb <3
“My mate. My little one. You did so good,” he reassures you. The soft and gentle giant you knew as Tonowari was back. With your heat at a bit of a standstill due to his wondrous skills and technique, you felt more normal, and so did he.
“Wari. Need to sleep,” you softly whisper back, and he obliged, taking you up into the haven of his wide, warm chest, and you lay your head down, listening to his heartbeat. “Muntxatan. What about the kids?,” you wonder, as you start to get a bit drowsy.
“Not to worry. They will be fine. My mate needs me now more than my children,” he reassures you, as he starts gently and tenderly braiding your hair. He gives you a forehead kiss as you drift off to sleep in his arms.
The storm intensified as the sun set over the azure waters. With you in his arms, he stealthily rides his tsurak back to the village, when all are fast asleep. He exchanges a stern glance with the night watch villagers at the bay of the reef, and carries you inside to the marui. <3
Nobody needed to question where the Olo’eyktan was. They knew what his priorities were.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
A distant, whistling breeze swept across the tall strands of sungrass, rustling against the threadbare canvas of your tent. It was shoddy lodging at best — certainly not a paradise. Gale and Astarion could afford such luxurious accommodations, but you were left to your own devices. You even envied Lae’zel’s tent, and it wasn’t much better than yours.
Crackling waves of dulled pain continued to ripple throughout the pit of your stomach, a familiar tightening and seizing of muscles that left you restless. Sometimes, humanity could be a horrible thing — you were a slave to your own basic bodily functions.
Shadowheart had bluntly broached the subject of menstruation with you earlier in the day — offered you rags to keep yourself clean. It was embarrassing, admittedly — you wanted to try and keep it all discreet.
Being underprepared for this scenario left you flustered and embarrassed, but you were thankful for her assistance, wariness aside.
Your newfound band of parasite-toting compatriots were becoming the closest thing to family that you had, but there were some you trusted more than others. You often regarded Shadowheart with a healthy dose of skepticism, but she’d been helpful enough.
Glittering rays of silvery moonlight struck through the worn spots on your tent, pooling across your form as you tossed yet again, hands folding together atop your stomach. The dying embers of the campfire dissipated out of existence — the world was dormant.
Sleep eluded you, replaced by the toils of your monthly blood moon that frustrated you to no end.
Halsin was generous enough to concoct an herbal poultice that was supposed to help, but one swig of the earthen liquid, and you were spitting it right back out into the dirt. Much to your dismay, you would be left to endure your cycle in its raw state, no remedies.
The gentle ambiance of swaying grass and the buzz of nature at dusk served as your atmosphere, accompanied by your deep breaths and occasional stifled groans. You rolled over, form awkwardly contorted on your side in an attempt to find some relief.
Your evening clothes were made of thistledown and spidersilk, far more comfortable than the linen-sewn rags you’d been trekking in for the last few weeks. It was all courtesy of a fashionable Drow you’d met in a village in the Underdark.
Your gaze fixated on the low, dimmed glow of a flickering lantern situated in your quarters, sitting soundly alongside your backpack. Orange light danced within the colorful glass, producing minuscule refractions that became a worthwhile distraction.
A fluttering of cloth tore your attention away from the luminous object, and you directed your gaze toward the agape flap of your tent.
Two glittering rubies peered down at you, sanguine hues dancing with a peculiar sheen amongst a canvas of smooth, marblesque flesh. The black ties of his silken nightshirt were left unkept, sleeves pulled toward the crooks of his pale elbows.
Astarion’s vampirism was something you’d become intimately acquainted with.
Perhaps it wasn’t your brightest move, letting him feed from you — but you had no qualms or regrets. Beneath the facade of allure and arrogance, Astarion wasn’t all bad. In the many moments you’d shared of allowing him to drink, you’d learned more, little by little.
“Astarion,” You exhaled, wondering why he’d come to you at this particular hour. He’d fed not long ago — from a nearby stag, and not you. He was ethereal beneath the moonlight, all lean and akin to a statue, living perfection as he lingered within the entryway of your tent. “Is everything alright?”
A sardonic huff escaped him, followed by a familiar tilt of his head, ivory curls swaying with his movements. “I could ask you the very same, darling.” He mused. “It seems that you cannot sleep.”
You swallowed the lump within your throat, sitting up enough within your bedroll to face him fully. “No,” You didn’t want to shower Astarion with the grisly details of your womanly cycle. It was of little importance. “Halsin’s awful concoction left a bad taste in my mouth.”
Astarion hummed, senses attuned to you — truthfully, he could smell you from across the camp.
That familiar siren’s song of blood echoed his name — your blood, above all. He wasn’t above lecherous thoughts, especially when it came to the likes of you. His solution to your little problem was unorthodox — Astarion wondered if you would be open to it.
“Was it that mess of an elixir that left you restless, or perhaps something else?” The pale Elf inquired, noticing the little flickers of realization settling into your features. “I have quite the keen sense of smell, you know. Your predicament is rather obvious.”
As your lips fell apart, Astarion chuckled — it was a rich sound, deep from within the confines of his chest. Embarrassment rippled through you, spreading like a wildfire throughout your body. Tendrils of heat crept along the back of your neck.
“I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised,” You mumbled, chewing at the inside of your cheek. “Is it bothering you?” You hadn’t considered that your blood might’ve had an adverse effect on the vampire spawn, but he dismissed your concerns with a simple wave.
Astarion stepped inside, dropping the burlap flap as it fluttered back into place. His flesh was a beautiful shade, encapsulated by the flickering glow of lantern light as he stood before you. “No,” He clicked his tongue. “I do have a solution to your predicament — with my own assistance, of course.”
Confusion settled into your countenance — Astarion wasn’t necessarily shocked by this, either. You were a delicate little human, a sweet, pious creature that he intended to ravish when opportunity presented itself — such as now.
He drank in your innocence, feeding from your piety as if it were your lifeblood. It was easy to charm you, let you slip into his intricately-spun web of seduction, but in reality, he found himself becoming soft on you.
What a horrid thing — soft on you.
Yet, Astarion couldn’t help himself. Your presence was soothing, providing a warmth that even enveloped his own icy heart. You never asked him for anything — you never used him. He wanted you all the more for it, desired to keep you for himself.
“How could you help me with this?” You questioned, assuming that he had some remedy for you that countered Halsin’s. Anything would do — you were becoming desperate for a solution.
Something shifted in Astarion’s eyes — his gaze became hooded, glazed with some indiscernible notion that caused your stomach to swirl with uncertainty. Your breath hitched within your throat when his cold digits swept across your cheek.
“In a way that I know best,” He crooned, thumb gingerly sweeping along the curve of your jawline. “You would lay back and let me taste you.” Astarion’s suggestion struck you as unorthodox and crude — and you nearly gasped at the insinuation of his words.
“You don’t mean it.” You countered, shivering beneath the icy bite of his embrace. Your flesh felt like scorched earth, blistering with a fever that you couldn’t sweat out — and your remedy, your cure — he stood before you like an ethereal god.
Astarion chuckled, head canting to one side. “I do, darling,” He uttered, voice dropping to a delicious octave that seemed to curl around you like a vice, spreading to parts of you that you never thought possible. “It would be mutually beneficial, I assure you.”
A guttural whimper of sheer want coalesced within the depths of your throat, goosebumps dancing across your spine as you contemplated. It felt so intimate — if you were to go through with it, the lines of your relationship with Astarion would be blurred completely.
The desire for relief and for him outweighed logic, and you exhaled, eyes silently pleading with him for his touch. Astarion was enticed — admittedly, he wanted to taste you, bloodied or not.
“If you are worried about the mess, you needn’t trouble yourself, my sweet.” Astarion mused, pearlescent fangs glinting in the low light. “I will take care of you.” Something about his tone made you shudder, wanting nothing more than to give yourself to him — every fiber, every piece.
His growing fondness for you was becoming increasingly difficult to suppress. He hungered for your blood and he yearned for you — a naive human that he initially cared little for. Now, he was enthralled, whether he wanted to admit it or not.
“I’ll let you,” You whispered, voice barely above a shrewd whisper as you watched his expression blossom into one of sheer desire. Those crimson hues raked over you, devouring you without action, leaving you a mess, surrendering to him willingly. “Please.”
“How kind of you,” Astarion hummed, sinking onto his knees as his palm spread across the swell of your hip. “I wonder if you taste just as sweet as you look.” His honeyed purr dripped with a warm reassurance, all wrought with want as he eased you down onto your back.
A fire burned within your belly, demanding to be extinguished as you settled down onto the many layers of a tough leather bedroll and feathered blanket. Astarion loomed like a hungering predator as he slipped between your legs, throat hoarse with the sting of thirst.
His cold hands pried at your silken nightshirt, gingerly lifting the fabric towards your chest as it bunched up just beneath your breasts. A wave of cool, brusque night air licked across your stomach, but the sudden presence of Astarion’s lips made you tense up.
He made sure to touch you — caress your supple frame wherever he could. Despite his one-track mind, Astarion wanted to make you feel good. Those practiced digits of his slipped across your ribcage, dragging down toward your abdomen.
“I’ve dreamed of this, coveted this,” He murmured into your flesh, kissing his way toward your weeping cunt. Nimble digits caressed their way to the waistband of your undergarments, tugging them down and away from your body. “Your sweet flesh, your body beneath mine, crying my name from your lips.”
None of this felt real — your head was spinning, mind deliriously dizzy with a newfound desire. You couldn’t discern if his confession was genuine or simply a ploy to subdue you. Truthfully, you didn’t care either way.
Astarion hummed again, nose brushing along the supple skin of your thigh. “Astarion,” You mewled, unable to keep from saying his name. “I—I …” You babbled, savoring the sensation of his mouth on your skin.
You felt his body quiver with a gentle chuckle as he inhaled a gust of your intoxicating scent. It was your distinct perfume intermingled with that of blood — the twang of coppery menses that he intended on consuming.
Even when prone between your thighs, Astarion exuded a rather domineering aura, icy lips peppering a string of kisses against your inner thigh. He wanted nothing more than to bite — indulge himself in your sanguine ichor. The scent between your legs invited him in, instead.
As crimson wept from your core, the vampiric Elf moved forward, skilled tongue languidly dragging across your aching cunt. He shivered when your cruor fell upon his mouth, a taste of your blood that he so desired.
His palms settled themselves atop your plush hips, hooking underneath your legs. He pressed into your flesh, gripping you tightly as he held you firmly in-place. Astarion could feel the visceral, unrestrained way in which your body reacted to him, twitching and shuddering, thighs flexing.
“How delicious,” Astarion purred, voice dropping to a sultry octave. It stroked every recess of your mind, setting your nerves ablaze, making your stomach churn with a wave of butterflies. “My sweetest pet.” He uttered, licking at any drop of scarlet.
Flushed and flustered, arousal pooled between your legs, intermingled with that of your menses. One of your hands haplessly fisted the feather blanket, the other roaming towards that crown of ivory curls. A low, bemused growl tore past his throat when you gripped his tresses.
If anything, it simply encouraged Astarion, whose greed knew no boundaries. He eagerly lapped at your cunt, tongue tracing across your slit. You felt the little twang of relief that he offered, and you were beyond grateful. You felt the desire to reciprocate — if he let you.
It became increasingly difficult to stifle your pleasured mewls and moans, back beginning to arch slightly off of your bedroll. His continued string of lascivious praise and salacious comments made your flesh turn hot, begging for a release of any kind.
The dull burn within his throat was quelled, soothed by your cruor. Astarion was eager, delighting in your pretty noises and the way your body gave into him. He greedily lapped at the sticky menses trickling from your core, lips twitching into a smirk.
His crown of ivory curls felt like Githyanki silk beneath your fingertips, and for a moment, you peered down — you needed to sate your curiosity.
The mere sight of Astarion, coiled and poised like a lithe predator, wedged between your thighs sent you reeling. He could detect your beseeching gaze, and without pause, those vermilion hues flickered to hold your stare.
Instinctively, your body shivered, goosebumps cascading down the length of your spine. You watched in silent reverence as the broad flat of Astarion’s tongue lapped at your cunt, showering your clit in newfound affection. A stray curl fell across his temples — he was beautiful.
A strangled gasp escaped you, and you fell flat once more, fingers seizing up within his tresses. Astarion’s form rumbled with subtle laughter as he keened forward, mouth suckling on that sensitive clutch of nerves. Your reaction was well worth it.
“Astarion,” You cried, thighs rattling like leaves upon a swaying tree. You wanted to thank him over and over again for this — the tight waves of aching pain had subsided. “Gods, I — Feels so good.” A pleasured moan tore past your lips once more.
A sliver of you feared waking the others, potentially alerting the camp to your nightly accolades. You didn’t want to allow your worry to fester, hips rocking forward when his tongue embraced your cunt once more.
One hand traveled from the curve of your hip to the apex of your thighs, two fingers stroking over your weeping entrance. You gasped, soothed by Astarion’s soft laughter as he lifted his head slightly. “So sensitive.” He purred, lips stained in a glistening layer of crimson. He kissed the inside of your knee.
Heat rolled through you in pleasant waves as pangs of ecstasy gripped you. Seeing Astarion’s bloodied mouth made you shiver, only wanting him to continue, bring you to climax. He sank two digits into your cunt, tongue dutifully returning to lap at your clit.
If you were to perish now, you’d die happy and within the throes of your own ecstasy — with a pale, Elvish deity between your thighs.
You’d wanted him for some time, and to finally drown yourself in his affections — it almost didn’t feel real. The practiced, needy lap of his tongue brought you back to reality, making your hips lurch forward once more. Those digits of his gently pistoned in and out of your cunt, ensuring a level of softness.
Rivulets of your menses coated his fingers, much to his delight. Astarion was relentless, driven in his quest to simultaneously feed and soothe your blood moon pains. His perfectly-timed movements of his fingers worked in-tandem with his mouth, tongue flicking from your clit to your weeping core.
A white-hot pleasure blistered through you, beginning to mount into your encroaching release. Your climax was close, stomach swirling with molten heat, body feeling as if it could simply float away.
“A—Astarion,” You whimpered, desperate to get rid of your nightshirt. The coolness of dusk could not alleviate the pure heat you felt now. A shrill cry left your lips when he withdrew his fingers, simply exchanging them for his tongue as he dragged you closer. “Astarion!”
His name felt like an incantation upon your tongue — it was a sultry, desperate plea for him. The Elf thoroughly reveled in your innocuous cries, wanting to hear you chant his name like a prayer. It felt so genuine, affection intermingled with desire.
Astarion’s gaze lingered on you, chest heaving, flesh glistening with a sheen of perspiration, countenance contorted into sheer ecstasy. There was something rapturous in his eyes — you couldn’t see it, but it was certainly present.
A low hum of approval escaped him when you absentmindedly tugged on his curls again, and he rewarded you with a barrage of his tongue. It was a greedy assault on your cunt as the vampire spawn drank from the source, inhaling a gust of your scent.
“Such a pretty voice, darling,” Astarion uttered, and you soared underneath his reverent praise. You were prepared to burst, body tensing, like a blossom unfurling within the sunlight. “You taste delightful.” He knew what it would do to you — he reveled in it.
You shivered, feeling his nose brush along your thigh as he kissed at the skin there, teeth teasing and grazing along your sensitive flesh. He returned to your core once more, lapping at your oozing cunt with glee — and that seemed to be enough for you.
Everything seemed to spin in circles, head fuzzy and body sinking into sheer bliss. Pleasure washed over you in hot, visceral waves as you were brought to your climax, hips tilting upward as you came.
The coil within your stomach snapped, muscles relaxed — the uncomfortable pain had subsided. Even if the relief would be fleeting, you were beyond grateful to Astarion for assisting you. You came to, flushed and flustered, sitting up enough to see Astarion finishing up.
He emerged from between your legs, tongue languidly lashing across his pearlescent fangs and lips. Speckles of crimson were splattered across his chin, but you nearly collapsed at the sight of him sucking on his fingers.
Whatever mess you made, Astarion had cleaned it all away — he never spilled a drop. “That, ah …” What did you say? “Thank you for doing this, Astarion. I don’t know what else to say.” You confessed.
Astarion chuckled, head canting to one side. “Speechless, are we? It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve left someone in such a state.” He crooned, and before he could move to stand, you reached for his arm, coaxing him back.
“Don’t ever feel obligated to do this,” You mumbled, somewhat embarrassed at the sight of your cruor on his chin. Sheepishly, you swiped it away with your thumb — but he caught it. “I feel like I didn’t do anything in return.”
Instead, the pale Elf held your wrist, ruby hues drinking you in, picking you apart. Astarion remained hushed for a moment as he considered his words, lips quirking into an abnormally tender smirk. “You did return the favor, darling. Your blood is tribute enough.”
Your breath hitched within your throat, but you didn’t protest, gaze subtly absorbing his porcelain features. He was gorgeous — you often felt inferior in his presence, shadowed by his timeless beauty. You smiled at him, fingers reaching to squeeze at his hand. The gesture was unexpected for him, but he made no comment.
“Thank you. I do feel better,” You cleared your throat, chewing at the inside of your cheek. “Did you mean what you said, about coveting me and dreaming about this?” For your own peace of mind, you wanted to know where you stood with Astarion.
He should’ve known that you’d ask.
Astarion hummed, neglecting to disclose the truth about how he felt towards you. Part of him was fearful of the implications, of what it could mean — he felt unworthy of you and your piety. “Of course,” He uttered, voice dropping into a more alluring octave. “I would not mind indulging in this again.”
Part of you deflated — intimacy wasn’t the only thing you wanted from Astarion. You wanted his heart. It gave you something to think on, but for now, you were simply content to enjoy his company, lewd or otherwise.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” You murmured, visibly sheepish as you glanced back towards your bedroll. “I should try and sleep, I think.” You nearly asked if he wanted to stay with you, but fear and insecurity gripped you in that moment.
“I should hope that your rest is much more productive.” Astarion smirked, pressing a feather-light kiss against your knuckles before rising to his feet. Sharing your bed didn’t seem prudent — for him, it would only make his feelings for you worse.
A soft laugh bubbled forth from your lips before you pulled your clothes back into place, descending onto the feathered blanket. “Goodnight, Astarion.” You exhaled, watching him as he slipped towards the burlap flap of your shoddy tent.
“Rest well, my sweet.” Astarion hummed, and like a shadow, he disappeared into the star-speckled gloom of the night.

pairing: Simon "Ghost" Riley x fem!reader words: 3k tags: death. blood. zombies of course. reader menstruates. single dad ghost. there will be sex but it isn't here yet. slow burn!!! enemies to lovers. summary: After losing your companions, you run into a skull-masked man and his daughter. They are your last hope for survival. a/n: this was longer but i decided to break it up sorry :p
The last glimpse of civilization you had was a chaotic one.
It was the first day of the outbreak.
Freshly infected running around. Bodies scattered in the streets like dead flies. Screaming. Paul grabbing your hand and tugging you towards the treeline. Your nephew shrieking in your sister’s arms. It’s funny how trauma likes to grab hold of the minute details. You can also recall seeing a bus pass by with an ad for some superhero movie. You had planned on seeing it. The bus crashed into a house and the ad was licked by flames.
Paul was always the one to make the trips to pharmacies and markets. He was the one who wielded a gun, not you. You were the one to stay behind, fortify the fence, and watch over the two broken members of your family.
Society's dust— that is what you leave Ghost’s territory for.
You know you need to.
Tumblr media
You wait for your period to end.
Freshly spilled blood is not a scent you want to carry. Greys are drawn to it like flies to rot. Something you learned the hard way once during a hunt with Paul. They were able to catch your scent from a further distance than usual because of it.
To your relief, Ghost lets you look at his map.
Of course, you can’t take it with you.
“Jus’ memorize it,” he grumbles under his breath.
So the evening before you venture out, you study the map of Northern England. Ghost brought out a whole stack of them from the room you’re certain is his. You notice a map of the European continent on top, briefly catching a glimpse of a black circle drawn in the middle somewhere, but he is quick to move it underneath the pile.
You focus on the one you need.
There is a black dot to indicate where their camp is amid the forest. Some 20 kilometers south is the closest city. Or village rather. Ribchester. Maybe that is a safer bet than going by yourself to a big city like Manchester. You may have a bow and knife and some strength, but you don't have a car or guns like he does. Or companions coming with you.
Blue helps you turn your pillowcase into a strapped bag with some scissors. You need something to carry what you find. Ghost isn't willing to let you leave with his backpack. Bitterly, you get it. It’s a useful item.
The next morning, you feel as prepared as you can be. You wake up earlier than usual, before Blue has the chance to poke inside your shed with Grim. You eat a big breakfast of two dried squirrels. You have a third one to take with you.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Blue picks at her breakfast as she sits beside you at the table. Her lips twist around thoughtfully.
You glance between her and Ghost. His stare is unreadable like usual. Dark, stoic, and hiding under lowered brows. You wonder what he thinks— if he would be secretly relieved if you don't make it back alive. Probably. He could get rid of you without Blue pointing the blame at him.
"Medicine is important. I need to find my own.”
We can’t risk sneaking anymore, you would say if he wasn’t right there. But by the way she slides her blue eyes to discreetly meet yours, you think she gets the hint.
"Just be careful, okay?" You nod. "And remember—" she lifts a finger, "—you have to shoot those fucks in the brain."
"I know. I've been practicing my aim a bit."
The smile you offer is only half-there. The truth is, you are risking your life with this. Part of you wonders how deeply she has processed that.
Despite her lips appearing more chewed-through than usual, they give a wary smile in return.
“Yeah, we could hear you hitting the trees. Right, Ghost?"
He hums low, but characteristically, doesn't have much to say about you.
But when you head for the cabin door after eating, his firm hand surprises you, gloved and skeletal. It wraps around your bicep and brings you to a halt before you can step outside. Heat spreads through his glove and the layers of your clothes. You turn around just as a metal object is silently offered to your chest. Ghost holds your stare before you look down at what he is giving you.
It's the revolver. The one they collected from that man.
The gun with only one cartridge.
"Thanks."
You bite your cheek to hide the dry tone, slipping the revolver into your coat pocket. Maybe it will come in handy. At least he now trusts you enough not to immediately point it at him or her.
Blue is the one to follow you out to the gate of their camp.
"I hope you find something good."
"Me, too."
"You know, Ghost and I only went on one trip that I can remember," she says as she unlocks the bolts for you.
"Yeah?"
"To get him more ammo from a military base," she explains with a wave of her hand. "It was pretty close, though. He says that we went on one other trip back to Manchester when things first happened, but he carried me on his back the whole time so I don't remember much except for all the loud sounds.”
This part she adds quietly: "Think I closed my eyes for most of it."
"I would have closed my eyes, too, Blue.”
Tumblr media
The next glimpse of civilization you get is a desolate one.
Again, you are on your own. Though, maybe you’ve been alone this whole time in a way.
It is that weird time between winter and spring when the air is crisp but the sun is bright. You hope to complete the trip in one day, which gives you about nine hours. You walk and walk, leaving Ghost's familiar territory behind until the trees become new to you again. You’ve never gone south before. You stop by a creek to drink some water along the way. By high noon, you exit the forest for the first time in five years.
You can see it. Overgrown shrubs and dry vines that crawl over cracked concrete. A road. A billboard arches over with a peeled ad for shaving cream, the woman’s face looking mangled. Your bow is poised as you follow the highway towards the village, recalling a time when you used to take the bus ride down this very route to visit your sister’s home. You liked watching the trees and rolling hills pass through the window as you tucked your ears under headphones.
It is so strange.
The air is quiet with abandonment.
Briefly, you ache for a world that once existed and the life you once lived. Car rides. Music whenever you wanted. Drunk outings on the weekends when you were supposed to be studying for nursing school. Hope for a family of your own someday.
But you have to ignore all that to stay focused on the present. Now, life is whittled down to basic needs and protecting yourself the best you can.
The village soon appears as stone buildings with unkempt wisteria scaling the sides. Abandoned cars haphazardly parked throughout the streets. You keep your guard up and your nose flared as you approach. There is a faint, awful scent that looms in the air, but it is not strong enough to cause concern. Not yet.
A pharmacy.
You need to find one.
If you want to make it back to their camp by nightfall, then you can only waste about an hour or two here. You could spend the night in a tree and trek the 20 kilometers tomorrow, but sleeping in a branch is even more unpleasant than your shed and it is risky. You were willing to do it when you had no other choice, but what if some unfriendly people find you this time? Perhaps even unfriendlier than the threat of Ghost's knife to your neck.
An hour is killed just searching for the pharmacy.
You roam the empty streets.
Finally, you catch sight of the faded sign and your heart leaps. But the excitement fades away when your nose and eyes detect the group of Greys just outside the building in an empty parking lot. Their pale eyes aren’t pointed at you yet, so you move behind a crumpled car for cover. If you had gotten any closer, they surely would've smelled your human flesh.
You take a deep breath. How many are there?
Carefully, you poke your head out just an inch to survey the threat. Six of those fucks. That is doable given the range.
The last time you ran into Greys, you had no choice but to run because of the bow Ghost stepped on. This time, you can kill them off with the bow carved by his hands.
You are quick with it. You stand and release arrow by arrow. Four of the six are headshots. You aren't perfect. The last two receive arrows through their shoulders, but this type of wound means nothing to a Grey. It is their brains that are infected with the virus, just like Blue said.
These two begin running towards you, now catching a whiff of your scent.
You climb on top of the car. Hitting a running target is far trickier. You go for the faster one first, using two more arrows before hitting the skull, grey chunks of brain splattering onto the concrete. The slower one just barely reaches the car before you finish it off, the closer distance sharpening this final hit.
The pharmacy is reachable now.
As you run over, you gather the used arrows. Precious ammo. You pull them out of their bodies with a twist and a putrid squelch.
When you push through the doors to the pharmacy, you almost choke. The shelves— they are empty. You breeze through every aisle, eyes and hands seeking anything that could be left, but there is nothing. You check the back. You check the shelves behind the counter.
Empty, empty, empty.
“Oh, fuck me,” you croak. Hot tears spill down your cheeks.
You half expected this.
But you’ve come all this way.
You need something.
There must be somewhere else you can look.
The cars maybe. Most people used to keep med kits somewhere inside. There is a slight chance that one could’ve been forgotten. It is worth a try.
You keep moving, not wanting to return with an empty bag. The white sun hangs high. The dry air turns your tear-stained cheeks sticky. You pick up rocks to begin breaking the windows of the abandoned cars, poking your arm inside to undo the locks, and rummaging through the glove compartments.
CDs, magazines, condom wrappers.
Nothing.
“Please, please.”
You make it down the street like this, checking every single one. Distracted, you shatter the glass of a white sedan without noticing the shadow laying in the backseat.
Fingers wrap around your wrist as you reach for the inner lock.
A maggot-filled mouth lurches for the flesh of your hand.
An arrow won't work here. With a cry, you use your free hand to grab the revolver from your pocket and shoot its head. The sound echoes. The single bullet burrows right between its eyes. The Grey writhes for a moment before going limp against the seat.
Panting, you have to pry the bony fingers off your wrist.
Again, you search the glove compartment. In this car where the stench is thick enough to sicken you, a med kit and a Twix bar fall into your hands.
“Fuck— thank you.”
You stash both into your homemade bag.
You could leave now, but you are itching for some antibiotics. The kit will help you clean wounds without Ghost's help, but it won’t save you if you develop an infection.
The next idea you have is to check a house.
By the look of the sky, you can fit in at least two quick searches. You run over to the next street and kick at the front door of the first one you see. Nothing but knocked-over furniture and torn wallpaper. The bathroom cabinet is empty.
The next one you fight inside is decorated with furniture that smells like faded perfume. The first room you check is a bedroom. In the center, a full set of bones lies on the bed, void of any meat after God knows how long its been there. You try not to look at it. On the floor lies a pile of clothes. You could use some more, still dressed in the ones Ghost found you in. You don't even look at them, just grab what you can fit in your bag and move on to the bathroom.
Here, beside a pair of molded dentures, you find two half-full bottles of pills.
Amoxicillin.
Paracetamol.
You cry some more.
It's not much, but it is enough for now.
Tumblr media
Your muscles are fatigued by the time you make it back.
You reek of sweat. It is a long walk. You run into a few more Greys but manage them. You eat the squirrel you brought.
Darkness covers the forest just when you spot the camp's fence in the distance. Relief. You actually did it. Some pride breathes into your tired lungs.
As you get closer, you make out two silhouettes leaving the gate. One is a girl who you tiredly smile at the sight of, and the other is a bulky tank.
You leap over the trench.
But when your boots land on the other side, the end of a rifle pokes your breastbone and prevents you from getting any closer.
Tumblr media
"Ghost."
You can't help but shout at him, eyes widening. He is pointing a gun at you? You were just beginning to think he could tolerate you enough to not threaten murder anymore. The memory of your first encounter resurfaces.
"It's just me! What the hell are you doing?"
Panic finds you once again. Your chest rises and falls under his gun’s touch. You glance at Blue, who tries to get near you, but he sticks out an arm to keep her away.
"Dad," Blue groans, "Do you really have to— ”
The tip of the rifle brushes up over your collarbone and toward your neck. Your nerves awaken under cold metal.
"Let me see." His voice is firm.
Oh. Bites. He wants to see if you have any bites.
"Okay, okay." You nod breathlessly.
Swallowing, you gather your braided hair in your hands as he clicks on a flashlight. You have not been offered string to tie them with so most of the hair has fallen out as always. You roll your neck to one side, and then to the other to show him the unmarked skin. But he is not satisfied yet.
He moves the rifle down to the hem of your shirt and uses it to lift up the fabric just beneath your breasts, revealing the skin of your stomach and ribs. You should feel exposed, standing here with your bare midriff under the light, but the two of them have already seen this much of you. You are more concerned about the fact that he could kill you if he actually suspects you could’ve been bitten.
The cold air invites a shiver. Your teeth clench as you stare at him. In the darkness, his eyes almost lean red.
He lowers your shirt.
"Roll 'em up for me,” he demands, now giving a nod to your trousers.
You bend over to roll up the pantlegs, all the way up to your knees so he can’t complain about it. All that is revealed are your unshaven legs and sweat-laced socks. You are sure they can smell them from where they stand.
"She doesn't have any stupid bites, Ghost, alright?"
Blue tugs at his arm with a huff. Finally, the rifle lowers. You straighten back up and exhale the short breath you were holding.
There is a silent moment where the three of you just stand there. An owl hoots. Ghost rubs at his masked jaw and looks you over some more, eyes flicking to the filled bag over your shoulder with a raised brow.
And then, something unexpected.
A small body whirls into yours and you almost stumble back in a step. Blue wraps her arms around your waist and excitedly breathes out, "I knew you'd make it back. Ghost said you wouldn't. I told him you would."
What?
It is a short-lived hug.
But still, the first one you have had in a long time.
After this tiring day, your eyes close with some more moisture. It is a strange feeling, her young embrace. Her palms spread flat against your back and she presses her forehead to your shoulder because she is tall enough to reach it. You are just about to hug her in return, move your arms around her shoulders out of instinct, but she is soon tugged away by a skeletal hand. Her blue eyes drift down to her boots. She looks a mix of irritated and embarrassed.
In a daze, you end up back in the warmth of the cabin.
Blue begs you to show her what you found. You dump the contents of your pillowcase onto the table. Her father’s shadow lurks behind you somewhere, always watching and taking up space, but for now, you ignore him.
You cannot recall a time when you were in this kind of mood. It is enough to surface the waters of your grief. Because now, your survival does not have to rely so much on Ghost's mercy or the risk of Blue’s sneaky hands. Food, a med kit, one type of antibiotic. It should all be enough to keep you alive - to take care of yourself - for at least however long you end up staying here.
"Shit balls." Blue rummages through the goods. "You did pretty good."
"Right? I can't believe it," you whisper numbly. You wipe your eyes.
She holds up the clothes first, starting with a large, floral blouse that looks like something an old lady would wear. Her head tips back with a giggle.
"This is way too big for you."
"I'll make it work," you say, shrugging, but almost manage a quiet laugh, too. You don't really give a fuck what the clothes look like. At least you can change finally into something else - something that didn’t belong to your dead companions.
Where you care about the medicine, Blue is far more intrigued by the candy bar she discovers. She holds it up, and inspects the wrapper with curiously wide eyes, shooting a glance at her dad.
"T-w-i-x," she sounds out with pinched brows. She looks back at you. "What's this?"
"It's like... chocolate," you tell her.
"Oh— no way. Could I try some?"
You don't really care about the Twix bar. You almost forgot about it since the moment you found it in the car. But before you can tell her she can just have it as a late birthday gift - because she has done so much for you - Ghost moves to take it from her hands.
He puts it back down on the table.
“What’s hers is hers, kid. That’s how it works here.“

Okay I finally figured out Comet's origin story. Long version under the cut but short version is: knuckles finally got to reunite with the surviving echidnas but they didnt want to leave their homes to live on the floating island, so an alien felt bad for him and gave him a fankid <3
Okay so to recap stc canon: Knuckles has spent his entire time on the floating island believing he is protecting it until his people return. he doesnt remember, but he used to live in the ancient echidna city with Tikal and Pachacamac, but somehow was transported 8000 years into the future (present day). This happens after Tikal briefly brings Sonic back in time to help the echidnas fight off the Drakon empire--fish-shaped aliens that discovered chaos energy (the emeralds were made by the Drakons with the echidnas' sacred emeralds, then the echidnas "stole" them back and the drakons declared war). They succeed in beating them back for this battle, but my headcanon (which ended up being p close to what Kitching supposedly planned out) is that after this battle, the drakons come back and end up wiping the echidnas out--those that arent killed are taken off mobius as prisoners/slaves. At some point, some of them are able to escape and form a sanctuary away from the drakons.
Okay now we gotta talk about the Kaamdaarns. The Kaamdaarns are alternate dimension aliens that appear in 113, 119, and 120. They are peaceful aliens with "highly advanced science" indistinguishable from magic, which they use to disable any weapons on their planet and then also to free Shorty from his cybernik suit.
so the STORY WITH COMET GOES... Kintobor helps Knuckles to identify some kind of beacon signal that appears to be coming from other echidnas. Knuckles and Sonic hop into a spaceship (tekno and porker collab) and through a dimensional portal (tekno and kintobor collab) to find the source. they find a colony of echidnas long-established on a sanctuary planet under the protection of the kaamdaarns. the reunion is pretty bittersweet for knuckles bc like. these are people 8000 years removed from his culture. there are maybe some things still in common but otherwise their lives are completely distinct from how he grew up. and after 8000 years, very few if any of them consider the floating island home more than the place they are now. even those that might be interested in going back with knuckles are wary of the risk of leaving the safety of the kaamdaarn planet and being captured by drakons. and for a bunch of ruins... it's not really worth it

Intro:
It’s been a few weeks since you and the Sully family have sought uturu in the Metkayina village, Awa’atlu. At first, the people were wary of all of you, thinking that providing you guys with a sanctuary would bring danger upon their people. However, after pulling your weight and adapting well to their way of life, they’ve become accepting of you and the Sully family. You and Neteyam have been so focused on adapting that your intimacy has taken quite a hit, to the point where the Metkayina people think you’re apart of the family, rather than Neteyam’s mate.
----
You sit in the sand next to Kiri, soaking up the warm rays of the sun that beats on your bodies.
“I could definitely get used to this. It’s not too bad here.” You say, digging your toes further into the sand. Kiri giggles, and shakes her head. “Nothing will compare to home. But I will admit that here is nice. Look around us, Eywa keeps on giving.” She takes a deep breath, savoring the scent of the ocean. You close your eyes and dip your head back, listening to the waves crash into the shore. It’s so serene that you feel like you’re going to fall asleep any second, when you hear three voices behind you.   “Yeah. That Neteyam boy is cute. I’m glad he’s unmated... because I would mate with him.” Alira says, smiling to herself.
You look at Kiri, and scoff. “Forget what I said.” “Yeah? Well, I’d do way more than just mate with him.” Maru smirks. “Me too. I’d spit in his mouth and dominate the fuck out of him.” Vineya laughs, looking down at her feet.
Maru looks at Vineya. “Okay that’s a bit far… I’d probably just call him a few dirty names and put him in his place. He looks like he wants to be tamed.” She giggles.
“Well, I’d take his knot happily. It must be huge… he’s so tall and muscular. I just want to eat him up.” Alira mumbles to herself. “Definitely. I’d eat him alright. Probably have him eat me too.” Vineya moans softly, getting excited. “Maybe we can all share him then.” Maru suggests. “Shit. He’s coming, shush!” The words coming out of their mouths set a fire deep in your chest. Jealous isn’t a good enough word to describe the burning sensation inside your chest. You’re so livid that you feel like getting up and putting them in their place for talking about your mate like an object. He is not unmated. He is your mate, and he has been since he became a man. Kiri rests a hand on your thigh, as if to say, ‘don’t listen to them’. Her touch brings you back to reality. You shake your head, trying to get their words out your head.
Neteyam walks over to you guys, braids swaying side to side, and calls for you. “Kiri. Y/n.”
He glances at Kiri, and then at you, looking you up and down whilst smiling. He’s happy to see you. Likewise. You both stand up to greet him.  “Brother. Coming to disturb us I see.” Kiri rolls her eyes. “Hey, you.” You walk towards him, returning the smile. “Just coming to check up on you two.” Neteyam says, resting a hand on your lower back. “Yeah. We all know who you’re actually here to check up on.” Kiri shakes her head, turning around to go sit back down in the sand. “I guess that’s my cue to leave.”
Neteyam laughs. “I cannot say she is wrong. I have been missing you. Dad has me watching Lo’ak, sorry I have been away so often.” He leans into you, moving his hand to your waist.
The simple touch feels so good; it’s been too long. You see the group of girls watching you guys intently. They talk among themselves, trying to encourage each other to come over and make a move.
You lean into your mate, and tippy toe, brushing your lips against his ear ever so slightly. He holds onto your waist a little tighter, providing you with some support, as he tilts his head down.
“Eclipse. Our spot. I miss you more, by the way.” You whisper in his ear, although it was more of a moan, and drop back to the flat of your feet. He turns to you, brows raised, and a grin plastered on his face. He stares at your lips - his way of saying ‘understood, my mate’. The girls make their way over and Neteyam loosens his grip around your waist to acknowledge the oncoming company. Neteyam was raised to be a gentleman, so he greets and speaks kindly to all people, even the ones with an ulterior motive. Typically, this means he’s oblivious to all flirting outside of yours – he couldn’t quite understand why someone would flirt with a mated man. He greets them with a smile, like a gentleman, which sends the wrong message. Strike one. Their approach is aggressive, causing you to take a step back as they surround your mate. You see red, the heat now radiating from your chest to the rest of your body. Did they not just see you touch your mate? Whisper in his ear? Him grab you by the waist? What more do they need, you to fuck him in front of them? Not a bad idea, y/n. You smile to yourself, and then at them. “Hey…” he looks at each one of them up and down as they circle him. Strike two. “Hey, mighty warrior” Vineya speaks, brushing her hand over his bicep. “You are a warrior, yes? You have the body of one” Neteyam laughs with her awkwardly, “Yes... I am”. “Hi. Do all Omatikaya people have braids?” Alira asks, twirling her finger around one of his braids, completely ignoring Kiri’s hairstyle. Neteyam is taken aback by the physicality, but puts it off to curiosity. “Not all of us, no.” He examines the girl intently. Strike three. “My name is Maru, hi.” She looks at his tail, stroking it from base to tip. “Your tail is so different... aren’t you slower in the water?” she asks. He chuckles uncomfortably and steps back, inching his way back to you. “Uh, somewhat. I am getting the hang of it, though.” He smiles at them and turns around to face you. “Y/n. I must go, dad is expecting me soon.” He smiles at you, tucking a braid behind your ear. “Kiri, I’ll see you later.” He waves at her, and then the group of girls. “Bye Neteyam! Hope to see you again soon!” The girls say in unison. Kiri rolls her eyes for a second time. “No respect.” She grabs your hand and pulls you towards your Marui pod.
To her surprise, you smile at her with a twitching eye, and say "Give me a minute.” You approach the girls who are gushing over your mate, once again. “I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation, girls. I’m y/n.” you greet them. “Neteyam… he’s quite the catch, isn’t he?” They all greet you, looking you up and down. “He is. Any way that you could set us up?” They laugh again. “Yeah. Definitely.” You shrug your shoulder, smiling with them. “Y/n!” Kiri whisper calls for you, with confusion plastered all over her face. You move your hand discreetly to your back and shoo her away. “Sorry for my sister, she’s ready to go home.” You smile. “Anyways, as I was saying. There is a spot that I know about that Neteyam likes to go for some ‘alone time’. No one else is really allowed to follow him there, but I could show you guys.” You lean into their circle and whisper, “but you have to keep hidden, and quiet – very quiet.” They all quiet down and huddle into you, as if they were being told a secret. “Okay. We will be” They whisper, grinning with excitement. You pull back. “Good. Meet me here right before the eclipse, and I’ll show you where it is.” You smile, taking some strides backwards. “See you girls later.” You take Kiri’s arm and walk away quickly. “What are you thinking?” Kiri interrogates you. “I’m going to teach them a lesson. A lesson that’s obviously needed.” You say, dropping your mask and showing her your true feelings. “And how exactly are you going to do that?” Kiri asks, rolling her eyes for a third time. “You don’t want to know the details. Trust me.” You fume, breathing heavily.
----
When you get to the shore, you see the three girls huddled together talking amongst each other. The sky is getting dim as the eclipse is fast approaching. You walk over to them. “Hey girls.” You nudge your head in the direction of the rocky coast. “Follow me” You call for your ilu.
They come willingly, excited to spy on Neteyam. You all bond with your ilus and make your way over to the secluded spot, a small open cave, nestled in a sea of rocks by the mangroves. When you all arrive, you see Neteyam waiting patiently for his mate, his bioluminescence glowing in the darkness. Seeing your mate took your breath away, as it did for everyone else, too. You were ready to take him and make him yours all over again. You all hide behind the curves of the mangroves, peaking through the cracks of the roots. They’re mesmerized by this glowing body, as he starts to remove his hunting knife from his hip. He fiddles with his loincloth, repositioning it before he makes his way into the water. Spying on your mate like this arouses you, your already wet loincloth becomes wetter from your slick. You fall back, and swim quietly away from the girls, making your way towards a hidden hole in the mangroves that lead to the small open cave. You swim low and slow, keeping hidden until the very last moment, where you see your mate walking into the water. You slowly emerge out of the water, just as he’s crotch deep. In your direct line of sight is his cock, imprinting out of his wet loincloth. Brushing your face against his bulge, you stand slowly looking deep in his eyes. You make your way to the shallow end of the cave, backing him up against the rocky wall.
“Hey, mighty warrior.” You run your hand up his arm and squeeze his bicep. “You are a warrior, yes?” you lean into his chest, and kiss his muscular breast. “You have the body of one.”
He looks down at you with a smirk on his face, knowing exactly what you’re doing. He responds with his line, “Yes... I am.” He pulls you in closer by your waist, leaning in to kiss you.   You cup his bulge suddenly, making him jolt instead. “Need help removing this?” You smile, brushing your lips against his.
“I missed you, my mate.” He moans into your mouth, moving his hands up your back.
You glance to the surprised eyes that peer through the cracks of the mangroves and smirk. “I missed you more, my love.” You look back at him and meet your lips with his.
He kisses you hungrily, allowing his hands to explore your body, running his hand along your queue. You melt into his feverish touches, rubbing his bulge eagerly.
“I want to try something new today. You trust me, yes?” you whisper into his mouth.
“I trust you, always.” He smiles, nibbling on his bottom lip.
“Good.” You twirl one of his braids around your finger, then tuck it behind his ear.
You move your hand to the base of his queue, and run it along it’s length, holding the end and bringing it between you two. You both watch his tendrils dance excitedly, while he brings your queue forward. He puts your queue against his, and both your tendrils intertwine, connecting together. The feeling is exhilarating, causing both your eyes to dilate as you sync with one another.
The girls watching feel like they're invading a deeply intimate moment between mates – because they are. They’re taken aback, whispering to each other that they didn’t know you were his mate and that they thought you were merely his sister, or some sort of family pet. As much as they want to leave, they can’t. You see them linger longer, watching the show intently.
Being watched like this gives you an adrenaline rush, bringing feelings of extreme excitement to your body, transferring it to Neteyams.
“Why so excited?” he asks, watching you kiss your way down his body.
“Just excited to see you, babe.” Your sloppy, wet kisses reach his belly, where you play with the dips of his abs with your tongue.
His breath becomes raggedly, and his cock hardens even more.
“You’re making me rock-hard, y/n.” he says through a clenched jaw, feeling good from your kisses.
You untie the knot of his loincloth, unleashing his raging cock. You could practically hear the girls gasp at his length. You were going to give them the show of their lives. You rub your face against his cock, breathing in his musky scent. He stares down at you, with desire in his eyes. He wants you so badly, and you can feel it.
“I just want to eat you up.” you taunt, licking his cock from base to tip.
Eat me up? he thinks, confused.
“But, I prefer you eat me first.” You stand up quickly, moving him to switch positions with you.
You lean back against the wall, and rest your foot on a rock, opening your legs. “Get on your knees.” You demand him.
He looks at you, with an arched eyebrow and smiles, as if he can’t believe the words coming out your mouth. “What?”
You hear the faint giggles coming from the mangroves, as if they were saying that you couldn’t dominate your mate.
You untie your own loincloth and use it to blindfold your mate. “I said, kneel.” You say sternly.
He kneels immediately, obeying his mate’s command. His nose brushes against the soft flesh between your legs that lay open. He inhales deeply, savouring the sweet scent of your cunt.
You grab a fist full of his braids and shove his face into your pussy. “Now, eat.”
Being blindfolded, he has to rely solely on his other senses. His hands explore your thighs, while his tongue licks the flesh between your thighs, tasting the different flavours your body has to offer. Once he starts tasting the sweetness of your nectar, he laps up your juices hungrily. His nose is buried in your cunt, rubbing against your sensitive pearl, while he drinks the juices that flow out of you.
“Good boy. Fuck” you moan, rubbing your cunt against his face while gripping his head.
He’s drunk off your scent, gulping the slick that fills his mouth the more he eats you out. The water splashes against his back as he kneels and sucks on your clit, making your legs shake. You look down and see him, blind folded, making out with your cunt and it sends you over the edge.
“Ugh, f-fuck. You look like my little fuck toy sucking on my clit like that.” you purr, caressing his cheek. “Does this little toy want my cum?” you tease, feeling your climax approaching.
Yes. Fuck. He begs you.
All he can do is let throaty moans vibrate through his nose into your cunt, which brings you even closer to your peak. His breath is heavy, panting hot air into your pussy while he’s gripping your thighs as you thrust into his face, desperate to cum inside his mouth.
You dip your head back, feeling ecstasy from your mate lapping up your pussy juices, and peak at the girls watching you about to cum in his mouth. You give them a smile, and they look away in embarrassment.
“Look at me.” You demand.
They look back at you, eyes wide, looking you up and down.
He shakes his head. I can’t see, y/n.
“Not you, baby boy.” You moan breathlessly, about to cum any second. The thought of them watching you face fuck their little crush makes you so, so turned on.
You can tell your mate is getting weary, as his movements are becoming more erratic, desperate for you to cum in his mouth.
“Yeah? Want me to cum inside your mouth that bad? Fuck.” You moan, shoving your pussy against his face.
The heat in your chest shoots down your spine, into your cunt, and out into his mouth.
“Oh, fuck! Cumming!” you shriek, grabbing his head and pushing it harder into your cunt.
You look down to see your mate gulping loudly, swallowing every drop of sweep nectar that drips out of your aching hole. You pull his face away from your cunt suddenly, letting him gasp for air. Strings of your cum that connect your pussy to his lips break as he sits back into the dip of his feet.
His shoulders move up and down from how hard he’s trying to catch his breath, making choking noises in the process. His hands rest on his thighs as he hangs his head, your cum still dripping down his mouth onto his chest. You’re panting too, trying to come down from your high.
“You did well, sweetheart.” You praise him.
Using a single finger under his chin to tilt his head upwards, he parts his lips, panting small, hot breaths.
“Open wider.” You command. He opens wider, tilting his head back even more, and you spit directly into his mouth. He whimpers, completely under your trance. “Swallow.”
He swallows your spit greedily, licking his bottom lip, corner to corner. Your foot presses against his bulging, throbbing cock, causing him to whine under your touch.
“Since you were such a good boy, I’ll make you feel good.” You take your mates cock between your toes, providing him with just enough friction.
The strings of precum dripping from his throbbing cockhead coat your toes in a thick slick, allowing him to thrust his hips freely.
“Work for it, my little cumslut.” He bucks his hips into your toes, moaning and whining loudly.
“Nghh... y/n. Why are you acting this way?” he asks through shaky breaths, working for his climax.
“It’s your punishment.” You state, like it was a fact.
“What did I do, baby? Mmnnh…” he whimpers, his head dipping back from being almost there.
“You don’t know?” you pull back your foot.
He thrusts against nothing into the air, still trying to chase his orgasm. “Fuck. Please, y/n.” he begs, extending his hand to touch himself.
You kick away his hand and crouch over, taking off his blind fold to reveal his watery, drunk eyes, willing to do anything to cum. “What did you think of those girls?”
“I don’t know, y/n.” he whines, “...they were friendly, I guess”
“No.” you straddle him. “They were flirting. With my mate.” You take the entirety of his pulsing, swollen cock inside your slippery cunt in one thrust, already feeling his knot emerging.
You both moan in unison, as you feel the heat of each other mix together. You look into each other’s eyes, forehead to forehead, panting from the feeling.
“That’s your problem. You think people are just being nice when really...” you lift your hips up, “...they want your huge, fucking cock.” You slam your hips against his.
His eyes squeeze shut as he dips his head back, feeling overstimulated by your walls that clench tightly around his girth. “I’m sorry, baby” he whimpers, resting his head into your bosom as he  runs his fingers up and down your back.
“You better be, you little slut.” You whine on his knot while you breath into his ear, “make it up to me... and give me this fat knot of yours.”
Hearing these words drive him into a frenzy, fucking you erratically and moaning loudly. Just as you feel his cock heat up, trying to burrow it’s knot into your cunt, you grab his jaw and turn it towards the mangroves.
“Look at the audience while you cum inside your mate.” He looks through the cracks of the mangroves to see three, bulging, glowing pairs of blue eyes watching them.
He’s so deep into the thick, hazy fog that it turns him on even more to know that they’ve been watching him be dominated this entire time. He thrusts into you even harder, even deeper, showing them that you’re his. You lick his neck, holding his head in position while you ride out your oncoming orgasm, moaning in his ear.
“Knot me. Show them you’re mine.” You moan, feeling your cunt start to pulsate around his cock.
He’s panting, staring at the blue eyes that stare at back at him while he ruts into you relentlessly, listening to your loud moans in his ear.
“Oh – oh shit. F-fuck! Cumming. Cumming!” he lets out lengthy whines, driving his knot into your cunt, tying you two together.
You turn your head to the direction of their glowing eyes, and smile, planting wet kisses all over your mates face, as he gasps for air. “That’s a good boy. I hope you learnt your lesson. All of you.”

Proximity pt. 3
Neteyam x Olangi! Reader
Warnings: awkwardness, more denial, pretending certain things didn't happen, Neteyam is STRESSED, reader is homesick and anxious af, Omaticaya girls hating on her cause they want Neteyam (who could blame them), Lo'ak is Lo'ak
Tumblr media
Neteyam didn't know what he'd done wrong. He'd been pacing the floor of the hut you two were supposed to share, to live in together forever in less than a week, vaguely aware of the fact that he was probably going to wear a hole in the floor if he kept this up but decided he had bigger problems to worry about.
Like how you hadn't spoken to him beyond a few words, ducking your head, letting your braids cover your face every time so he couldn't see your expression, since he'd kissed you.
Had you not liked it? You'd said you didn't mind, but... maybe he'd misread the whole thing. Maybe he'd scared you off for good by kissing you after barely a few days of knowing you.
He couldn't help himself. You'd just looked so good, standing there with the sunlight bringing a warmth to you that he'd never seen before, with that starry look in your eyes like all your worries about the impending union had been wiped away. By him.
Or, at least, the home he'd built for you.
Even if you hadn't spoken to him in what felt like weeks, the hut was still rich with your presence in sweet, subtle ways.
Neteyam searched for them now, eyes flicking about the room like a child scrambling for a security toy. He found himself doing this often, in the same order, whenever he was stressed. It had been subconscious at first, then grew into an unshakeable habit.
First, your cloak, hung neatly on a peg near the entrance, smelling even now, albeit faintly, of dry grass and direhorse.
Secondly, a few small pots of paint. You'd use it for your ceremonial paint for the union. But for now it remained untouched, sitting on one of the shelves. Waiting.
The wind chimes. Your wind chimes, now, really. They'd confused you at first, but even on days without wind, now, you'd set them going with a simple brush of the fingers as they passed by.
A half-carved direhorse. You'd been making wooden animals for Tuk lately, possessing a talent for woodcarving even Jake or Neytiri couldn't rival. But you hadn't finished this one for some reason, and so there it sits on the window sill, as it has for weeks now.
Your knife sheath. Tough, practical, like everything else you owned.
Not that you had a lot of things. The Olangi were so minimalistic, which, to Neteyam, seemed something of a miserable existence.
The Omaticaya adored beautiful things, surrounded themselves with them. Pretty trinkets, sparkling stones, colourful, intricate clothes...
Neteyam wanted to share all of that with you. He didn't even know if you wanted anything to do with the Omaticaya culture and way of life, but he knew he wanted to share it with you. Badly.
But you wouldn't even look at him.
Neteyam sighed, stepping in the middle of the hut, clasping his hands over the back of his neck as he looked at your few belongings, wondering if he'd rushed things, ruined it all, ruined what could have been a perfectly good union.
Meanwhile, across the village, you were having your own problems. Well, you didn't have a problem. But the slender, rich blue Omaticaya girls adorned in pretty, delicate clothes approaching you seemed to.
"You're the Olangi, right?" the girl at the forefront asked with a smile.
"Yes," you said, brow furrowing in confusion as they drew nearer, though they seemed a little wary of your direhorse, your precious Akicita, who was quite a bit bigger than the Omaticaya direhorses and nowhere near as gentle.
Well, he behaved for you, but you'd been with him from almost his birth. You were all he knew, and now more than ever, since you'd brought him to this strange place with no familiarity to it whatsoever.
"Did you need something?" you began, turning from Akicita to face them fully. "Only I'm busy, I-"
You were busy. You knew brushing them off probably wouldn't endear yourself to the Omaticaya further, but you were.
With bomb-proofing Akicita, that is.
There were a lot of new distractions and things to scare or startle him. You didn't want any accidents, so you spent your morning walking and riding him alternately around camp, introducing him to everything.
"Neteyam will never love you," the same girl said, interrupting you, her words punctuated by her friends' laughter.
You kept your expression carefully impassive, and turned back to Akicita, stroking his shoulder to calm him as he stamped his hoof, shaking his big head unhappily as he felt the hurt strike through you. "I know," you said, voice taut with the effort of not snapping at them for having the audacity to even speak to you about such things. "What is it to you? You have an even lesser chance of winning his affections than I do."
She looked like she'd been slapped.
You'd only spoken the truth, so you couldn't even begin to imagine why she then hissed at you, causing Akicita to whinny, trying to bully his way between you and them.
"You are nothing to him, just a-" she began in a voice that was unsteady with false brightness, only to be cut off.
"Just a what?" a familiar voice piped up, and the equally familiar form of Lo'ak entered your vision as he ducked under Akicita's head to stand next to you, nudging the direhorse out of the way fearlessly.
Lo'ak and Akicita had taken a liking to each other for reasons you couldn't decipher. Neteyam said it was because they were both troublemakers.
Damn. You'd been trying not to think of him. After the kiss and everything... You'd barely been able to look him in the eye. What kind of Olangi were you, to throw yourself so shamelessly at him like that? You were a disgrace, plain and simple. He'd been the one to kiss you, but you didn't have to be so pathetic about it.
It made you dizzy just thinking about it.
"Go on," Lo'ak encouraged, bouncing on the balls of his feet, eyes bright as he stared at the girls. "My brother's future mate is just a what?"
She hissed at him too, but her friends withdrew, melting back into the village like they'd never been there, clearly not wanting to square up to the second son of Toruk Makto. She had no choice but to go too, casting you a nasty look over her shoulder.
Lo'ak shrugged, then turned and gave you a lopsided smile. "They're bitches."
You repeated the unfamiliar word back to him, though it felt clumsy in your mouth. It must be English. Neteyam had told you their father had taught them a little. Damn. You had to stop thinking of him.
It did nobody any good, not you or him. You'd made a silly mistake, blinded by the allure of your first kiss and him, and you shouldn't have kissed him. You were supposed to wait.
Not that that was the way of all Olangi, but you were the youngest child of the olo'eyktan. You couldn't just go around kissing people like that.
"Hey," Lo'ak said, giving your shoulder a shake. "You okay? Breathe, bro. You look like you're about to pass out."
"I'm fine," you managed, shaking your head.
He shrugged again. "If you say so." He seemed uncomfortable for a second, looking at you intently. Then he spoke again. "I don't actually like you all that much, y'know?"
You blinked slowly, absorbing that. Then you mimicked his shrug. "No one seems to around here." You turned back to Akicita, feeling like crying, which you hadn't for years. How could you, when you had been so happy?
You missed your home. No one had ever insulted you there. You were with people you loved and who loved you.
"Hey, no, wait, I'm not done," Lo'ak rushed out, following after you as you took ahold of Akicita, leading him away. "I don't like you, but my brother does. So why have you been ignoring him? He's really upset about it."
You raised your eyes skyward, asking the Great Mother for patience. "We kissed," you said bluntly, slowing your walk to let Lo'ak catch up.
His eyes went wide. "Wow! Really?"
"I have brought shame upon myself and my family by throwing myself at him so shamelessly," you continued in a monotone.
The way Lo'ak tilted your head told you he had no clue what was so shameful about it.
"We must be joined before the eyes of the Great Mother before we can... kiss," you explained, curling your lip and baring your fangs at him in exasperation. "And everything else."
"Dumb," Lo'ak announced loudly, clasping his hands behind his back as he walked alongside you. "We don't do that. You can kiss him if you want. You don't have to be mates to kiss someone."
"You have to where I'm from," you sighed. "And I did want to kiss him. I still want to."
Lo'ak's nose scrunched, brow furrowing. "Ew. You can keep that to yourself."
You rolled your eyes and shoved him. "Are you trying to help or trying to make things worse?"
"I'm not making it worse. You're making it worse by not talking to anyone except your giant fuckin' horse," he pointed out.
He was right, and you hated that. "How was I supposed to know the cultural differences ran so deep? I thought Neteyam would be ashamed too! That he would not want to see me!"
"Eywa, you're stupid. He's giving you space," Lo'ak huffed at you, tail lashing out and hitting you smartly on the back. "Just talk to him. Please. He's so depressed. It's driving everyone crazy."
"You are truly annoying," you said, hitting him back across the leg with the flat of your tail. "Fine. I will talk to him. And then we will kiss." The last part was just to annoy Lo'ak more, and he wrinkled his nose again, shoving you.
"Bro, shut up!" he laughed.

Platonic Yandere Naga Todoroki family
(This was a long time coming. This is completely disconnected from the Mythical Forest au btw)
Warning: Mentions of stalking, violence and Yandere behavior.
Tumblr media
-These guys are extremely feared by villagers and tourists alike, Enji had gathered quite the reputation for being a massive asshole. A violent asshole to be exact.
-Rei and her children are far more merciful and generous, helping out lost people and giving them directions.
-Except Dabi, he’s just a smug bastard who will probably lead you into crocodile invested waters for shits and giggles.
-You were the child of infamous explorers, whom have decided to explore the Todorokis’ forests.
-It was Shoto who discovered you first, watching you from the trees once he got wind that there were humans around.
-He ended up saving your life because a jaguar attempted to attack you.
-You were a little freaked out by the fact that a creature like Shoto existed but you became chill around him.
-Shoto then decided to tell his family about you. Enji was going through his redemption process as no one was tolerating him anymore. (Dabi tried suffocating him-)
-So now you have a snek family stalking you.
-Rei is just instantly in love with you, you’re just so adorable to her.
-Fuyumi leaves you little things that kids your age might like. I.E little hand woven dolls, books she had picked up from abandoned structures.
-Shoto and Natsou keep you safe from threats. Hanging out in trees in the late night hours.
-Enji stays at the den, as his kids are like: My dude, thin fucking ice.
-Dabi occasionally hangs out with his brothers on night shift but other than that, he’s fucking with crew.
-Casually depositing venom into a crew member’s water, breaking someone’s ankle.
-You are currently quite content with everything, especially with the all the little gifts and occasional visits from your friend Shoto.
-Until they fully raid your camp. Enji and Dabi handle everything whilst the rest of the family get you.
-Understandably, you’re quite upset about your family possibly being murdered and being abducted by snake people.
-Rei and Fuyumi are utterly upset with your crying and screaming, Shoto feels especially bad.
-Once you get comfortable in the den, everyone is satisfied. They have obtained their hatchling!
-Rei is obsessed with you, doing your hair, snuggling you. You’re her baby! She especially loves it when you willingly snuggle with her.
-Fuyumi teaches you essential skills about surviving and how to function. She’s really gentle but can get a little bit overwhelming. She’s wary around the idea of you potentially flocking together with human kind.
-It took a while for you and Shoto to rebuild trust, he was genuinely sorry. He’s loving and gentle with you but a bit clingy. He can’t stand the idea of humans reclaiming you.
-Natsou is probably the most chill and level headed of the family. He’s patient and scolded everyone for being overwhelming. He handles your health stuff, making sure you don’t die. Natsou can’t stand you being around Enji, given how Enji is a violent asshole.
-Dabi is a strange guy, he lurks around the den, just eyeing you with an indescribable gaze. He scares You honestly, especially since he’s the most trigger happy of the clan. He’s gentle with you, snuggling you whenever he wants. He’s not afraid to make his disdain for Enji and Shoto clear, giving a nasty hiss towards them. Don’t run off when he’s around, just don’t.
-Enji is probably the most gentle with you, but wary. He knows that he’s on thin ice around his family and will probably get turned into a hashtag by his sons if he fucks up. He uses his tail as a weighted blanket for you tho.

When Ronal had her baby, and Tonowari went to be with her for the process, how would y/n take it? It's wholesome and a super important moment on one hand, but it's also got to sting knowing your mate had a baby with someone else first, and will get to experience those firsts with her and their baby.
Would she feel bitter? Resentful? Guilty because there's jealousy, too? Imagine the angst she'd feel if some of the Metkayina people saw y/n as a homewrecker who interrupted their tshanik and olekayatan's courtship, and "stole him" from her, after he gave her a child!

“Wari stop it!” You squealed, hunched over with his arms squeezing your torso.
“I'm not doing anything.” He laughed with his toothy smile.
“You're tickling me!”
“I'm not even moving.”
You screamed and laughed knowing that one wrong move and his fingers would go wiggling across your flesh again. As the two of you bickered Jake entered. “Jake, help me!” You said through tears, but you noticed the look on his face and straightened out. “Ma Jake what's wrong?
He looked towards Tonowari, without looking at you. “Ronal is having the baby.”
Tonowari released his grip and dropped his jaw. “Oh. Um.” He fidgets around before looking at you. “Y/n- I-”
“Just go.” You said with a content look. “Go meet your child.” You urged him. After finding out about the baby, you made sure to explain to Tonowari the importance of caring for the child and its mother. Even if the two of you didn’t interact, you still held respect for the mother of his first child.
Tonowari placed a kiss on your forehead before grabbing his spear and leaving your shared home. Jake looked at you and tilted his head as he approached. “You okay mama?” He grabbed your waist. You grabbed at his biceps and nodded. “I'll be okay…I mean what can I do about it.”
“You don’t have to accept this.” He reminded you.
“I will though, because I love you both.” You kissed his lips. “Plus Tonowari isn’t the only star of this relationship. Me and you still have clean slates.” You reminded Jake. He smiled and leaned to kiss your cheek.
“Whenever you want one.”
Night fell and the two of you shared a small dinner before retreating to bed. Jake fell fast, but your night was spent twisting and turning, most likely disturbing the warrior next to you. It’s fine, you tried convincing yourself, but you couldn't help but overthink.
Was it a boy or girl? Was it healthy? Is Ronal Okay? Is Tonowari Okay? Is Tonowari happy? What does this mean for the three of you?
You smashed your face into the pillows as you continued to think of your other lover, and how he was possibly curled up next to Ronal and his child.
Morning came and the two of you woke up alone, Tonowari still not back from the birth, but it's expected considering babies need lots of parental time after their exposure to the world. Jake made you breakfast, pressing a kiss to your forehead before he left. The morning was silent between you two, but it was comfortable enough. Jake knew that deep down you were probably roughing yourself up, but he wanted to trust you were okay.
Closer to noon you finally made your debut to the village. You were heading to the trading pod like any other day, but this time around you noticed the whispering as you walked by.
“That's her.”
“They say she didn’t let him see his child until after he was born.”
You snapped your head to the na’vi who said that and furrowed your brows. The na’vi looked shocked and turned away. The rumors confused you. You’d been with Tonowari and Jake peacefully up until now. How did you become a public enemy in the span of 12 hours?
At work everyone gave you the cold shoulder, even those you had grown close with. It made you cower, working in silence as everyone else walked around eggshells around you. You made a mental note of those who switched up on you at work, so when the storm passed you could throw it right back in their face.
You had the mentality, a strong one which made you able to withstand a day's worth of insults and jabs being thrown around, but when you got home, it became a different story. “I don’t wanna be Tsahik anymore.” You said the title with so much venom. Jake held onto your forearms, trying to keep you standing.
“You worked too hard. Y/n! You’re not thinking straight.”
“I wanna leave.”
Jake halted and looked at you with pained eyes. He got closer and held your face. “Stay. Please? It’s a rough patch but-”
“The Metkayina have made their decision.” You shook your head. “It's clear I'm not wanted here.”
“I want you here!” Jake said sternly.
You began to calm down and stare blankly into Jake’s eyes. He was here, he was still your other lover. He had no kids on the way…that you knew of. He searched your own with expectancy, waiting on you to say something. “I’m sorry.” You whispered, throwing your arms around his neck to hug him.
Everything surrounding the baby was becoming a hot topic on the island, and it was driving you crazy. You truly didn’t mind the baby, or Ronal, only because Tonowari made sure to remind you that you were his priority. It did hurt you that when you did become a mother, Tonowari may not share the same excitement, but that is what you grew to accept the further along Ronal got.
The next day you were tasked with watching the kids as a substitute for the school teacher. The kids were lively and excited for their future Tsahik to play with them, so you assumed it would be a pretty laid-back day. “Today you guys are going to draw your favorite animal. It can be anything, even one you’ve never seen before.”
You watched the kids scramble to grab crayons and plain sheets of paper. You had your hands behind your back as you walked around the classroom, looking down at the scratchy images the children came up with. “Miss Y/n.” One of the kids called you over without looking up at the front heir sheet. You walked over and took a seat next to them.
“What's wrong sweetheart?”
The girl fell quiet before dropping her crayon. “Please don’t take my dad.”
“What?”
“My mommy says you take people’s fathers away.”
Your blood ran cold, slowly burning back with anger. “Well, I won’t be taking your dad away.” You reassured the young one. “I won’t take anyone’s father away from them.
The girl seemed to be satisfied with your response and smiled brightly as she turned back to her drawing. You stood and walked back to the teachers desk, where you discretely broke a few pencils against a sheet of paper on your own. The gossip has spread to the children, and it's gone too far.
At dismissal, you stood with the young na’vi girl, waiting for her parents to arrive to retrieve her.
“Mama!” The girl jumped excitedly seeing her mom approach. You could see how the mothers face dropped seeing you, but she still managed to snap to a normal smile. “Hi, I was substituting for the class today.” You introduced yourself.
“What a surprise! Was my daughter behaving well?” She pinched the cheeks of the young one. “She was a delight.” You started. “But I think there's a little problem going on at home, no?”
“Problem at home?”
You inched closer to the mother. “She’s really afraid her dad is gonna be taken away.” You hinted. The woman's face ran blank and she began to stammer. “I- She- Probably another boogeyman story.” She nervously chickled.
“I’m the boogeyman in this scenario.” You clarified.
The woman patted the back of her daughter and escorted her to go play with her friends. When the girl left she turned back to you with a fearful look on her face. “I don’t want my daughter growing up in a clan where the Olo’eyktan cannot attend to his child because of his mistress.”
“Mistress?!” You exclaimed.
“Ronal was supposed to be Tsahik!” She said fiercely. “You are leading our leader down a demonic road.”
You heard heavy footsteps come from behind, and from the way the woman cowered you knew exactly who it was. “You truly believe I am being led down a dangerous road by her?”
“No sir I-”
“I left my duties for days to tend to my newborn, and you take that as an opportunity to bash my wife and degrade her title?”
The woman gulped and shook her head. “I’m sorry Olo’eyktan.”
“Shouldn't be apologizing to me.”
The woman turned to you and bowed. “I am sorry Y/n.” At that Tonowari nodded, dismissing the mother to go home with her daughter. It made you feel good to finally have him at your side again, but again this was one of tens of people who had looked down on you.
“We need to talk.” He grabbed your hand and led you back into the empty classroom. Once inside he picked you up by the armpits and sat you on the teachers desk to match his height. You looked at him with a blank stare, waiting on what he needed to address. “You have nothing to say?” He started.
You queried an eyebrow and shook your head.
“Y/n-”
“Tonowari whatever you have going on is-”
“I don’t want you to feel…pushed aside.” He interrupted. “I have heard the gossip going around, and I haven’t been here to defend you. I apologize for that.”
You sighed and kicked your feet. “I knew what I was getting into the moment we made it official.”
“The Metkayina are usually more understanding.” He explained, “You will still be apart of my life. Ronal and I’ve agreed on having you in our child’s life. It’s something they will just have to accept.
You looked surprised. Ronal would allow you around their child?
Tonowari stroked your hand with his thumb, waiting for you to respond. You shot him a soft smile, content. You were happy he was now back, and that he was about to embark on a new journey. But there was one last thing, something that’s been nagging at you for the past few days, maybe more nerve wracking than the comments and baby itself.
“Will I still be able to have kids….with you that is?” You asked without looking at him. Tonowari stepped closer and raised your chin with his hand. “There it is.” He said with a smile. You rolled your eyes, not wanting to acknowledge that he was right at sensing something was off with you.
“Of course you will have my children. My first child won’t be my only one.” He placed a kiss on your cheek. You leaned over to kiss him again, stroking his forearms as you did so.

Chapter 5
Y/N sat pensively atop her brother’s obsidian throne, her fingers drumming against the arm rest as she listened intently to every word spoken.
“They are beneath you, sister. Don’t overthink it,” said Geto as he donned a fresh haori for battle, its fabric woven from the threads of the savage fate of the clash between the divine and free.
From a shroud of shadows, Y/N had silently overseen Geto conducting his court for the past month; immersing herself into how Curses lived and behaved. Her brother had become quite obsessive with preparing her to sit on his throne and pass judgment in his absence, so she had dutifully stood behind him as he publicly proclaimed her as his sister and second in command to the entire court. Amidst Y/N’s observations, she had discerned the chaotic babbling and single-minded pursuits of violence and sin among the kingdom’s denizens, and Geto’s reasoning became crystal clear – they really were beneath her, for she possessed the mental fortitude and intelligence to think straight.
“And how do you know they won’t disrespect me because I’m Fallen?” she asked pointedly, her arms crossed as she watched her brother turn over his katana in his hands. “You are their King, not me.”
“These skirmishes have been an issue for a while now, and Geto has been aware of it, but last night marked the first open act of rebellion against him,” Suda announced grimly.
“It is precisely because I am King, that they wouldn’t dare,” he replied coolly, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Who else is better to sit on my throne when I am gone, besides my sister?”
And so here she was, on her third day replacing Geto at court, listening to those in his inner circle discussing various issues both large and small within her brother’s kingdom. Y/N doubted her ability to be the one to pass judgement, especially given the prejudice against her being a Fallen seraph, but she had no choice now. She could only hope to avoid worsening the already turbulent politics within the Hells, a notion that seemed to be far-fetched given the current situation. Toji hadn’t come to visit her during that entire month, she felt nothing through their bond either, and Y/N wished he would just teleport then and there to offer guidance on what to do.
“How many dead?” Miguel inquired, standing cool and collected at the right side of the throne, his dark skin beautifully accentuated by the blue flames flickering in the throne room.
“Only ten. They were villagers guarding their food stores,” Suda replied, clutching tanned scrolls of paper to her chest.
Y/N frowned, her fingers ceased their movement, and asked, “Where were the soldiers guarding that village? It’s close to the border with Jogo’s kingdom, no?”
“You’ve been watching and learning for the past month, same as I,” he continued, a small smile on his face as he tried to encourage her. “I trust your judgement, you now understand what needs to be done.”
“And if I make the wrong choice, and start a war? Then what?” She huffed, her gaze darting anywhere but Geto. It was childish, even pathetic, of her to try and shirk responsibility, and she knew it.
Suda cleared her throat uncomfortably, casting a wary glance at Y/N, and continued slowly, “They allowed Jogo’s forces to pass freely into the village. They claim that Geto is a false King who cheated against Hajime, and they refuse to acknowledge him as their King.”
Her brother sighed, his jaw tightening, and an angry spark of flame ignited into a full blaze in his eyes. Geto gripped her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze as he growled, “As your brother, I am asking you to do this for me. Don’t make command you as your King.”
The unspoken words hung heavy in the air, as clear as day, that this was only due to Geto being a Fallen. Y/N knew it, and so did the rest of the council, who all had their eyes trained intently on her. Her heart pumped wildly in her chest, the heavy burden of expectations and responsibility falling onto her shoulders like a heavy cloak.
“I will do this Suguru, I just don’t think I’m ready,” Y/N replied, her voice steady despite his words cutting through her like a hot blade, and she stood just a little taller.
But she was almost used to it, and understood his thin patience; it was a delicate line drawn in the sand, and he teetered on the brink of plunging over into the side that was mayhem and insanity. In the three months since her arrival, Geto hadn’t ascended to Earth, instead focusing on overseeing her recovery and managing his court affairs. Y/N had noticed his frustrations subtly at first; sparring had become gradually more and more aggressive, as each of them were desperate to land a blow on the other. Each clash between them were Geto’s sole outlet for pent-up anger, as he crashed into her with the force of gale winds against a mountain. These sparring sessions were the only outlet for his anger, and she knew he was still learning about their new world too, and that he hated being a novice in unfamiliar territory. Therefore, she couldn’t help but be sympathetic with his desperate longing for confrontation.
Y/N drew in a deep breath and enquired, “Where are these soldiers now?”
“They have fled, but I can try to locate them,” Suda answered.
“Do it, and find out who else knew about these plans but did nothing. They are just as guilty,” she spoke louder, steeling her throat to prevent her voice from quavering. “Larue will go with you. Once you find them, report back to me immediately.”
Suda nodded, gesturing for Larue to follow her. The pair disappeared into a portal, leaving just Miguel, Negi Toshihisa, and the twins with her in the room.
“You’ll be fine. May I offer just one word of advice?” he muttered, as a portal materialized behind him. It was not a question, but she nodded anyways.
“How many more do you think would openly betray my brother?” Y/N asked, her eyes sweeping over to Miguel.
“There has been… discontent, that’s for sure. Hajime’s death was sudden, and there are certainly those still loyal to him. So I would say a fair few; they simply wait for more to rally to their cause,” he said, his words echoing with such wisdom that she questioned just how old he really was.
“Geto may be gone for days, and he cannot pass judgment on those who have betrayed him,” she muttered, mostly to herself, deliberating on what her brother would do in her place.
“Do you know what needs to be done?” Miguel asked, but it wasn’t a question.
He was testing her, goading her almost, to see if she was vicious enough to bite, and bite hard at that. She gave him a harsh look, and her hands tightly gripping the armrests of the throne.
“Don’t be so fucking nice,” Geto all but growled, a wild gleam in his eyes as his body yearned to tear apart flesh and spill holy blood. “You’re one of us now, act like it.”
And he was gone.
Y/N nodded stiffly; she was sure.
“Girls, get me my katanas.”
-•-
A few hours passed before Suda and Larue finally returned, both their faces filled with an ill-looking tension, and the blonde Curse sported a nasty looking wound on his right bicep.
“Did you find them?” Y/N asked, feeling a foreboding sensation creep from her toes to her head.
Suda grimaced, “Yes, they have rallied together and taken over the village, and are holding the residents hostage. We tried to negotiate, but they refused to listen to reason.”
Larue rotated his right shoulder, as if was trying to banish the pain into the air. The twins rushed over to him, fussing over and attempting to care for the wound. Y/N bit the inside of her cheek, feeling anger starting to seep inside her. Her own emotions were beginning to become increasingly difficult to contain. Perhaps she too, was beginning to cross the line in the sand.
You don’t want me to play nice? Fine then.
“What can they really do? It’s not as if they can win,” Larue scoffed, obnoxiously flexing his uninjured arm. “There were just too many there for me alone. Suda refuses to fight and ruin her complexion.”
“It’s a statement,” Negi finally spoke, giving Y/N a pointed look. “They won’t have any demands; all they are doing are simply declaring they will not yield to Geto any longer.”
“There’s more…” Suda trailed off, looking particularly uncomfortable.
“What?” Y/N huffed.
“They have… mutilated all the Fallen that lived in that village, beheading them and mounting the bodies on spikes outside. The corpses were then set ablaze, which is a clear declaration of Jogo’s influence.”
A foot over the line; a thread snapped.
She was deathly quiet, her slow rage having built into a blazing fire, and her glare bore into Suda as she spoke coldly, “I told you to come back to me when you found them. Why did you try to negotiate?”
The group sharply turned towards her at the sound of her displeasure, and Y/N couldn’t help but feel a sick and twisted sense of satisfaction at their spark of alarm – like spooked animals. Larue looked away uneasily, and Suda visibly gulped.
“I thought perhaps the issue would have been best solved between… I-uh, m-meant well!” She exclaimed, her voice reaching a higher pitch.
“Between who, hmm?” Y/N asked coolly, reclining back in the throne. “True-borns? Is that what you were trying to say?”
She couldn’t deny it to herself; she relished watching Suda squirm.
The guilty pair remained silent, looking to the ground, consumed by a mixture of shame or fear, perhaps both. Sensing the change in atmosphere, the twins ceased their care of Larue and positioned themselves on either side of the throne, their hands clasped behind their backs in a display of submission. Y/N drummed her fingers impatiently, a single eyebrow raised in silent expectation.
“I don’t believe any offense was meant,” Miguel offered quietly, making an attempt to placate her.
“I’m aware, Miguel,” she snapped. “What really irks me is that if my brother had given the order, then it would have been followed precisely. So why is it that when I give an order, you both decided to take matters into your own hands?”
She stood up abruptly, her voice ringing out in a much louder tone, “Suguru entrusted me to act in his stead, and believed you all would respect me, but it seems he was wrong.”
Her gaze swept over them all, and in that moment, she realized her brother was right. She knew these creatures, both as a Curse and an Angel. They all harbored a belief in their own self importance and desires, but Y/N could see right through their delusions. Her thoughts seemed to clarify into a crystal clear rainfall, it was almost tranquil, and it reminded her of her solitary prayers in Heaven. Perhaps it was time to draw upon a page from where she had been born for what had to be done to traitors – to show them no mercy, and no second chances. Who better to enact justice than a Fallen?
Pride…
Toji had sensed her mental fortitude shifting from afar, and she could just about feel him through their bond. Her heart fluttered like a dance of songbirds, a symphony of emotions echoing within her soul.
“I’ll forgive, just this once,” she declared, her gaze piercing as she stared pointedly at Larue and Suda. “Next time, I will remove you from this court myself. Is that clear?”
They both nodded, and Y/N could sense Nanako smirking from her peripheral vision.
“Now, we cannot allow dissent to continue within our own ranks, and we cannot tolerate violence against our own,” she continued, descending the steps of the throne towards the group. “Miguel, we leave at once.”
He nodded in agreement, stepping closer to her. Y/N couldn’t help but feel nervous; after all, this would be her first time leaving the relative safety of Geto’s palace. But she felt a sense of readiness calling her into action. The twins stood taller and shifted on their feet, eager to be noticed, and she turned to face them with a slight smirk playing on her lips.
“Are you girls going to hold us back?” she asked, her tone teasing and playful.
Mimiko procured a rope from behind her back, pulling it taut between her hands, while Nanako brandished two deadly daggers, twirling them with ease between her fingers. They both shook their heads, wearing serious expressions on their faces, but Y/N could see the glimmer of barely concealed excitement in their eyes.
“Good, let’s go then.”
-•-
Y/N smelt the bodies before she saw them.
It was acrid, charred, and absolutely sickening. But she made no face and withheld any sort of reaction. These Fallen were like her, even if some of them no longer resembled anything of the regal forms they once possessed in Heaven. She may very well have ended up just like this, defiled and massacred, if her brother hadn’t wielded the power he did now, and that struck a strange chord within her. For some reason, she was only just realizing how far away from home and her old life she was. And it hit her with a crippling loss of something she would never ever get back again, except perhaps in dreams.
The village itself wasn’t overly large. Simple barracks made of stone, with sharpened steel tipped spears at the tops of the walls. Some of the bodies displayed ominously outside were still smoldering, providing a glow against the night’s sky. The sky was just a fraction lighter than where Geto’s palace was, tinted with dark purple hues, and Y/N supposed it was because she was close to the border between layers.
“How would you like to do this?” Miguel asked calmly beside her.
What should she do?
“Every living creature in that village would betray my brother. They all must die,” she muttered, a tendril of ice spreading through her mind, and that shocked even herself.
“Very well, lead the way,” he replied, and she could tell he was so very pleased with her answer.
Y/N sucked in a breath, tensing her legs.
And she sprung forward.
A bolt of silver charging through the air.
Colliding into and breaking down the stone doors.
The traitorous Curses stared at her, faces twisted in disbelief and fear, and she stared at them all with hate and malice.
Anarchy erupted like a blazing bonfire as Miguel and the twins joined her, and without hesitation, Y/N moved with lethal precision, her movements fluid as water. Her katanas sang through the air as she struck down any Curse within her way, glinting coldly amidst the blue and orange hues of sulfur torches and burning corpses. Miguel fought at her side, his skill and strength much more controlled than hers as he helped her pave a path of destruction through their enemies. Amidst the chaos, screams and moans of pain filled the air as the twins struck from the shadows She could hear the screams and moans of pain as the twins struck from the shadows around them; two little devils in their own bubble of mayhem.
Y/N felt the very core of her soul blacken considerably, sensing what she could only describe as Sukuna’s influence – a presence imbued with fire and sin, coursing through her veins like a relentless parasite to consume her essence. She would transform into a vessel of suffering and war, with no sense of purpose beyond what he willed her to do. Her hands start to shake, and she was reduced to a ticking clock, a harbinger of disaster that would leave no soul unscathed in its wake.
She felt her soul leave her body, as if she were looking down at her body from far above. Was she traveling back in time while her body stood still? Back to a time when she had almost loved Satoru and belonged to him as his most prized possession.
Calm… Ease…
And she felt Toji, as if he were right there beside her. Y/N looked around frantically, hoping to catch a glimpse of her green-eyed Curse, praying that he had sensed her throwing herself into danger and decided to join her. But he wasn’t there – his emotions through the bond served as a reminder, a nudge to reassure her that he was there in spirit, and that he felt her.
With concerted effort, Y/N pushed aside the rage and bloodlust that threatened to consume her, focusing instead on dealing out justice to those that dared to oppose her brother – oppose her. And as the last traitor fell at her feet, begging for mercy and forgiveness, Y/N could somehow empathize with the fear in its eyes. It reminded her of the time she had lost wasting away in Heaven, conforming to all their rules of perfection, forced to play the role of the perfect little soldier and Satoru’s betrothed.
And it had scared her.
So fucking much.
“They are beneath you, sister.”
But no longer.
Y/N struck the Curse hard across the face with her palm, shattering whatever resolve it clung to, and drove her blade into its eye – silencing it forever. She refused to go back in time; she simply wouldn’t. There was only a time before Toji, and after, and so she would never go back. Y/N felt herself rise above, a demon that had been waiting for hundreds of years to finally be born. From Heaven she had been born, but now she was a warrior of fire and steel. She would rather die than go back to the pristine kingdom that sought to confine her into a golden cage of Gojo’s love. No, here she was free, and would never be locked away again – Toji would never let her end up that way.
She knew then that she would have become a Curse, one way or another.
It was deathly quiet, the only sounds being the heavy rhythm of her breath, while her mind grappled with revelations and truths that had long been concealed even to herself. The bloodlust and adrenaline coursing through her veins were now subsiding, settling into sediments in her blood, and droplets of blood fell like rain from her katanas.
Black blood; just like hers.
Miguel approached her cautiously, surveying and taking in the carnage around them. “It is finished,” he murmured quietly, voice heavy with the weight of their actions, and the acknowledgement of what they had done – what had to be done.
She nodded, her gaze fixed on the lifeless bodies scattered across the ground before them, their vacant eyes staring blankly at the sky. There was no time to feel remorseful, and perhaps she had exhausted whatever remained within her. Yet, Y/N hoped that some trace of it still lingered within her, waiting to be ignited once more.
“My brother cannot wage his war if the rest of Hell stands divided against itself,” she declared, shattering the oppressive silence.
Miguel sighed heavily. “Hell has always been divided. That fact won’t change so easily.”
“We have to try,” Y/N hissed, gripping her katanas in frustration. “But first, we must become stronger ourselves before trying to unify the rest. The weak always follow the strong, and through strength, we can forge unity.”
Miguel regarded her with fascination; she looked at him questioningly.
“If you show the strength you have shown today, many will follow you wherever you go… I will follow you wherever you go,” he stated, and she was so overwhelmed, that all she could was hum in agreement.
Y/N heard the familiar sound of a portal opening behind her, prompting both her and Miguel to turn and face whoever had arrived.
Suguru stood as regal and powerful as ever with his arms crossed and his robes covered in dried red blood. A smear of crimson stained his cheek like clay, and his deep brown eyes bore into her. She perhaps would have been inclined to shirk away, but she stood tall and resolute as a mountain. Her brother could not break her; they were equals now, bound by a singular vision that finally unified them.
“You’ve been busy, sister,” he said at last, his gaze analysing hers, perhaps seeking any sign of weakness or shock.
He wouldn’t find any.
Y/N held her chin high and retorted, “Just like you.”
“Are you ready for what needs to be done?” Geto asked, moving to stand beside her, while Miguel shirked away into the shadows.
“Are you?”
Her brother breathed out a laugh from his nostrils, a sly grin forming as the corner of his lip curled upwards. “Excellent.”

Time is but a paper moon

Never step into the forest. That was the first lesson. Taught to all the village children as soon as they were old enough to learn and listen at the feet of the Elders. Most of them did, too frightened by the whispered tales of those who dwelled amongst the trees and called the forest home.
Some did not.
A/N; nothing really, and I hope you like this :) I'm sorry this has taken so long too!
Word Count: 3.9k

The forest around her was as silent as death, the ground saturated from the rain that had fallen the night before in fat, heavy drops that had beat into the dirt, leaving behind both the rich earthy scent and the promise of more.
At this time, when the sun had not even risen yet and tendrils of fog weaved in between the ferns and other plants like serpents, it was still, so quiet one could hear a pin drop, the only audible sound the leaves underfoot as she weaved through the dense thick brush, wincing every time a bramble or a thorn caught at her cloak or scratched over her skin.
There was a danger here. She could feel it in her bones, like an animal lurking in the underbrush hunting its prey. But it was one she cared little about, not when this was the only place the plants she needed like sage and mint and St. John's Wort grew in abundance.
And so she brushed off the concerns of the elders, promising to stay away with only one thought on her mind.
What they didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them.
Tumblr media
Her fingers have barely brushed the edge of a leaf when the crack and snap of someone stepping on a branch came from a distance behind her, cutting loudly through the early morning quiet. She stiffened, letting her fingers fall to her sides as she stood up, wary and alert as she turned around to face whatever was behind her.
Her eyes widened when it was not an animal like she expected, but a man.
Tall and lean, he stood beside one of the trees, monochromatic and dark against the earthy colors, his face half cloaked in shadow as he stood with his back to her. Pushing down her growing unease, she squared her shoulders, letting her voice carry over the distance. "Who are you?"
He twisted at the sound of her voice, surprise briefly flashing across his face before his expression shuttered, shifting into something haughty and cold and foreboding.
She was more than thankful for the distance, barely hiding the brief widening of her eye and the low gasp she let out at the sight of the dark square of leather on the left side of his face.
Her eyes moved over him from head to toe and back, lingering on the pretty, angular curve of his face. Wraith-like shadows seemed to cling to him like a second skin, hiding something dangerous carefully concealed behind the sharp lines of his face.
His eye narrowed, almost as if he had heard her, an icy coldness settling over his expression the longer he held her gaze, making the hairs on the back of her neck rise. "Who are you?" he returned, looking like he wanted to devour her whole as he stared down at her.
The hem of his coat brushed his legs as he moved, keeping her within his line of sight as he paced back and forth in front of her warily, prowling around her in a circle like a fox hunting for its next meal.
She shifted on her feet, following his movement as the wetness of the grass began to seep onto her feet through the worn straps of her sandals as something deep inside her reared its head, the nagging fear that she should run and not look back.
Yet she didn’t, as if something kept her feet frozen to the ground beneath her. She knew this place like the back of her hand, knew every twisting path and yet she had never seen him before, this silver haired stranger in front of her.
He folded his hands behind his back as he stilled, leveling an impassive look at her. “Tell me,” he said suddenly, tilting his head to the side like a wolf. “What reason do you have for stepping foot into my forest?" he stopped, digging the heels of his boots into the dirt, gaze sharp as he watched her.
Indignation and fury welled white hot in her chest at his words as she scowled at him, forcibly biting the inside of her cheek to keep her anger at bay. “Your forest?” She bit out, shifting again as the quietness of the clearing was broken in sporadic bursts of wind carding through the trees.
“Last I was aware this forest belonged to no one.”
“Yes, my forest.” He didn’t sound amused as he lifted a brow, an almost cruel smile dancing across his lips. His hair, as pale as moonlight, slipped over his shoulders, some of the strands woven into thin braids. “Well?”
"I need herbs,” she said as she gestured behind her. “My supply has run low."
His brow dropped, the sharp look in his eye diminishing slightly as he took in the plant behind her. "You are a healer." He observed, the tension in his shoulders lessening a hairsbreadth.
“I am,” she said cautiously as fear rolled in her stomach, heady and thick, nearly saturating her insides. “And who are you?”
All at once, his demeanor changed as the tension returned to him. "Foolish girl," he murmured, clicking his tongue. "Tis not a question you should ask." He crooned, shafts of light glinting off the pale, pointed ends of his ears.
"You're one of them," she breathed, the beating of her heart thunderously loud as it pounded in her ears. "A Fair Folk." Her fear returned, dredging up the old memories of her youth, spent with the other village children at the foot of the elders and the words of her mother.
Never trust the fae, child.
He made a low noise in the back of his throat before he spoke. "In simple terms, yes," his voice was soft, a contrast to the sharp cut lines of his face. He moved closer, the smell of leather and smoke and rain enveloping her completely. It was yet another detail setting him apart from her world and the scents she smelled daily and it was a more than welcome change from the harsh smells of the forge and the markets filled with spices.
She bit her lip before speaking again, her curiosity overpowering her. "What do they call you?"
“My name is not meant for the ears of a mortal,” he murmured quietly, mere inches from her now, so close where his breath fanned over her face as his knuckle brushed over the curve of her cheek. She shivered, the hairs on the back of her neck rising as his finger trailed lower, its path stilled by the plain clasp of her rough woolen cloak before he withdrew, letting his hand drop to his side again. "Lovely as you might be."
The skin at the back of her neck prickled, hairs rising at the way he dragged the words out, curling his tongue around the syllables. He leaned forward again, this time to brush a strand of hair back behind her ear. He seemed to take delight in her silence, toying with her like this was nothing but a source of amusement for him.
Between one breath and the next, he slipped behind her, lips brushing her ear. "What will you give me? If I let you go?" She sucked in a breath, heart thudding behind her ribs. She shuddered, more than aware of the almost inferno-like heat of him at her back. Her fingers twitched under the cloak, smothering the urge to reach for the blunt edged knife at her waist.
"I..." her tongue stuck dryly in her mouth, the sweet, bitter tang of the tarragon she’d eaten before she had ventured out lingering in the back of her mouth.
Nothing.
Anything.
He circled around her again, stopping in front of her again. “Foolish girl,” he began to laugh, a low cruel sound, shoulders shaking. “Learn to be more careful with what you say, mortal,” he rasped, a muscle twitching in his jaw as his gaze focused on her fisted hands, “There are monsters here. Ones who will not hesitate to hurt you.”
Fury welled in her chest at the mocking, almost insufferable way he said it, followed by an angry, indignant noise slipping from her mouth. A faint almost cruel half-smile lingered in the corners of his thin, pretty mouth.
Her teeth clacked together as her mouth closed. “You said-”
“I know what I said, and yet you were foolish enough to believe me.” A shiver crawled up her spine as ice flooded her veins, cursing herself for foolishly brushing aside all the warnings of the elders to never trust a Fae.
How foolish she’d been in thinking that he would be different. For as beautiful as they were, their nature would never change and they would always stay the same. Otherworldly and spiteful. Treacherous and cruel.
And he was no exception.

He is the farthest thing on her mind when the harvest comes a moon’s turn later, her days filled with clouds and rain and even less sun as the pale yellow green of the tree leaves darkened as summer came, bringing with it the yearly harvest and baskets filled to the brim with an assortment of fruit that had hung heavily from tree branches only days before, weighing them down so much the tips almost brushed the grass below.
"You came back."
"Of course I did." He stood hesitantly in the doorframe of her cottage, shoulders stooped slightly as his eye slid from corner to corner, taking scope of the sparsely furnished dwelling. He moved forward, sinking down as stiff as a board onto one of the chairs in front of the hearth.
She remembered their last interaction so clearly, how he had appeared in the same place again and again, like she was a beacon. How he had seemed to sense every time she set a foot just past the treeline. How she had been startled the next time he had slid from behind a tree with a smirk on his lips.
And as the days and weeks blurred by, she had grown used to his presence. To the low tones of his voice in her ear as he opened up to her as best he could, surrounded by nothing but the rustle of trees and the sounds of birds singing, still clinging to that same cold, aloof demeanor. He was as still as cruel and vicious as she remembered, but the more time that passed, seeing the undercurrent of something that was almost vulnerable.
“Might I see you again?” He’d stood stiffly, his arms folded behind his back. That same frigid icy stoicism was on his face, his eye focused on her with an intensity that was both solemn and enthralling.
The feelings that had begun to course through her veins the longer she held his gaze. “Of course.”
She twisted her hands together as she hovered on the side where he could see her. “I’ve missed you.”
He merely hummed as he glanced at her from the corner of his eye, his lips quirking upwards. She let out a shriek when one of his hands darted out to wrap around her wrist as he pulled her onto him, arm curling around her waist.
“Be still,” he grunted hoarsely, sounding more than a little strung out, his arm tightening around her waist. Her eyes flicked downwards, gaze stopping on where his other hand gripped the arm of the chair with whitened knuckles, hard enough to snap the aged wood.
The proximity to him was dizzying as the smoke and the almost earthy herbal note that clung to his clothes flowed over her. Seconds passed before she shifted, moving to stand, only to freeze again when he hissed under his breath, the sound reverberating against the side flush against him.
He didn’t let go of her as he stood, twisting a hand in the hair at the back of her neck as his mouth sought hers, his teeth nipping at her lip, the pads of his fingers digging into her sides.
She shuddered, moaning against his mouth as she dug her nails into the back of his neck, gripping his shoulder with the other.
His kisses weren't anything like the brief ones she had exchanged in the past with the boys in her village, heated to the point where the imprint of his touch was seared into her flesh. His fingers skirted up under her tunic, moving higher and higher.
“We should not- '' he groaned against her jaw, the low, tormented noise sending desire pooling down between her thighs. “Your lifespan is naught more than a mere blink of an eye for my kind,” he rasped as he pulled back to let her breathe, panting.
“I don’t care,” she breathed, biting the inside of her cheek at the loss of his touch. “I want you. At least this once...”
He wavered at that, his eye flicking from her face to the door and back again.
She pressed herself against him harder, curling her hand around the back of his neck, consumed by a wild, desperate need inside her. She would gladly let him swallow her whole like some beast of old. Let him slice her from throat to navel and crawl inside her, burrowing his way into her bones and her blood and her heart. “Please.”
He swallowed hoarsely, fingertips skirting down the curve of her back, feeling each and every bump of her spine beneath her skin. “Turn around.” His pupil dilated and contracted rapidly as he watched the pile of fabric at her feet grow.
“You’re beautiful,” he swallowed, tongue darting out to wet his lip as he took in the sight of her. The expression on his face was dazed, his eye clouded and darkened by a lust that was unfamiliar to both of them.
She flushed at the words, bright patches of red painting her cheeks, self-conscious now as she folded her arms across her chest, the chill of the night hitting her breasts as it seeped in through the cracks in her window, wishing desperately she'd patched them over ages ago.
“May I?” her fingers hovered just above the belt cinching his waist, feeling bolder than she ever had. His eye darkened, the strange violet color slowly bleeding to black.
He eyed her with a hunger, that same wildness that had been in his eye all those months ago as tension seemed to spark between them, building and building until it reached a breaking point, snapping like a torn string.
Her body trembled, whether with desire or anticipation or something else, she didn’t know, but whatever the feeling was, knew she never wanted it to end as he kissed her again, deeper this time, slanting his mouth against hers as his hand came up to cradle the back of her head. She moaned against his mouth, each kiss harsher and more biting than the last. Insatiable now, his hands moved over every part of her. Her pulse jumped beneath her skin as the pad of his thumb swiped across the thin skin of her throat.
"There is a spot," he rasped, reaching down between them. "Here," he croaked, eye half-lidded. She moaned, grasping his wrist loosely as the tips of his fingers brushed something between her thighs, sending a flare of pleasure up her spine.
“Touch me,” he exhaled raggedly under his breath, burying his face in the crook of her neck as her fingers brushed the outline of his cock, the muscles of his stomach jumping beneath his skin. His fingers tangled in her hair, tugging lightly on the strands as he breathed something else against her skin.
The chuckle he let out reverberated against her back as he pressed closer, his hold on her bruising and harsh, and the longer she thinks, the fuzzier her head got, that it was painful in a way she didn’t mind.
"Greedy little thing, aren't you?" From his mouth, the words sounded almost like a mocking term of endearment. “So desperate for me,” he murmurs under his breath as his lips drag up over her throat, hovering just over the spot where her pulse hammered wildly beneath her skin.
She twisted underneath his weight, panting as her fingers twisted against the coarse spun bedding, the tightly wound coil of her desire for him increasing with each deliberately slow drag of his fingers, sending her hurtling closer and closer to her peak.
“Tell me this is mine,” he growled as the sinew of his arms twisted around her, lowering his head as he nipped at the skin, soothing the skin with kisses. “That you are mine.”
“Say it,” he repeated roughly, pulling his fingers back. Her back arched, lifting upwards as she tensed under him, her hands clawing at his back and her ankles crossing one over the other, her heel digging into his lower back, taking the pleasure he gave her freely.
The braid her hair had been woven into had long since come undone, curling over her shoulders in damp, sweaty strands, no thanks to the rough tugs of his fingers. She knew that come morning, bruises would mar her skin as purposefully left remnants that she was his and his alone.
The rapid thudding beat of her heart had only barely calmed when the chilling sound of howling sounded from beyond her door.
His head jerked, the arm he had draped across her stomach falling to the side as he shot up. “Stay here,” he demanded, not looking at her as he dressed feverishly, lastly flipping a cloak over his head.
Tumblr media
“Sister.”
He stalked towards where she stood, ignoring the hulking black faehound that bared its teeth at him from behind her.
“Brother.” Helaena's voice was low and quiet, watching the candlelight flicker from behind dirty window panes. Clad in velvet and silk in jeweled tones of blue and ivory and gold, his sister was ethereal.
"Aegon knows." She spoke plainly, not bothering to embellish her words.
“Why are you here, sister?”
His face hardened, lips tightening like a shard of glass. "How?” he demanded, whirling on her.
“He sees, brother. Not to mention mother, grandsire and the Clubfoot all whisper into his ear," she murmured, every inch a queen as she folded her hands together in front of her in an echo of their mother.
“The Clubfoot should have been exiled decades ago,” he said, scoffing. "He drips poison into his ear more like. I don’t know how our brother can stand his foul simpering."
A fawn came closer, sniffing the air as it stilled a few feet from her, legs locked. Helaena clucked her tongue softly, turning away from him as she bent down, curling her fingers in a come hither gesture at the creature. It stared at her, wide dark eyes unblinking, before inching close enough to sniff at her extended fingers warily.
“Why are you here?” he repeated, flexing his fingers at his sides.
"Because Mother wants you to return home. She misses you." A pang hit him at the mention of their mother. Kind and gentle, she had been staunch and stalwart in her affection for all four of her children. He remembered it so clearly, the pained look on her face when he stormed from Aegon's halls in a fit of rage nearly a century past. "No, she doesn't. She has Daeron." He said, bitterness a sour tang on his tongue. "Her favorite boy."
Her hand dropped from the fawn’s head, giving the little thing the chance to bolt away from her on silent hooves, spotted hide swallowed by the darkness. "Don't be cruel, brother." She chastised, making him feel like a boy again. Wind began to pick up around them almost immediately after it had disappeared, the howling sound of it lashing through the tree branches grating in his ears.
His expression darkened, desperately wanting to scowl at her, the iron salty taste of blood flooding his mouth as he bit the inside of his cheek. The wind died, the quivering tree limbs stilling as the eerie calm settled once again over the forest.
“And because I see how you've grown attached to her. Your human." Her gaze was sharper than he remembered, her ability to be able to read him like no one else was more than off-putting. “Brother…” she murmured, voice laden with a pity he didn’t want.
“Don’t,” he snapped, the word coming out harsher than he meant it too.
She didn’t so much as blink, the only tell the slight raising of her brow, her expression as still and as calm as a lake. “She will die, brother. That is the way of things. She will die and we will carry on. As we've done for centuries."
"You think I don't know that?" He croaked, gaze sweeping over her willowy frame. “I know her fate, sister. I know that she, like all mortals, will wither and fade as time passes, whether of old age or some other happenstance...”
“And yet you know what will happen if you choose to stay here with her,” she warned, reaching up to grasp his chin in her hand. He could almost feel the power thrumming under her skin, heady and addictive. “He will not like it, brother.”
He curled his lip savagely in a twisted mocking grin. “I don’t care what he likes.”
She hummed, letting go of his face as she stepped backwards. “You know what he will do.”
She was gone when he opened his eye again, leaving nothing but the remnant of the flowers on her head brushing his skin and the echo of her words in his ear. It’s time you came home, brother mine.
Tumblr media
"I cannot stay long," he murmured, pushing the hood of his cloak back once her door had latched behind him.
There was something different about him, something not even her healer’s intuition could name. She had watched, seeing him and the figure of another, almost be shoulder to shoulder. As well as the red eyes of the animal prowling around them in a circle.
“Something’s happened, hasn’t it?”
“Yes.” He was pale, almost ghostly so, with faint shadows darkening the pale skin under his eye, the pupil of his eye dilated and filled with a fear so unlike him.
She ached to touch him, dread coiling in her belly as she took in the look on his face. “What is it?”
He tipped his head back, not meeting her eyes as he exhaled, his breath shuddering its way past his lungs. “My brother has commanded that I return home. Permanently.” he murmured finally, bringing his head forward as he met her gaze. He kept his face blank even as her own went ashen and colorless.
And there was nothing she could do but watch as he seemed to withdraw and fold back into himself like a garden snail retreating into its shell, turning into a stranger once again.
Tumblr media
"I knew you'd come back, one last time. Felt it in my bones."
He lingered in the doorframe, a solemn, silent creature of blood and bone and shadows with moonglow in his hair. He was still as beautiful as she remembered, the lingering echo of his touch still sharp even after all the years went by.
"I did."

Missing Piece
@piperjistic had asked for a forest spirit and while this isn't fully in line with your request, I still hope you'll like it!
Minor warnings ahead for non-graphic violence and a wee bit of body-horror towards the end, though it doesn't happen to the main character. Please be sure to take care of yourself!
*.*.*
For as long as the little girl could remember, it felt like something was missing within her. She could never put a finger on it, but it made her a restless child, picking up and discarding games, struggling with consistently staying interested and some days she just felt very strange.
Like that one stained glass window she had seen when her parents had taken her to a nearby city. All disjointed fragments that still managed to be a picture, but it would never be one entire piece.
The stained glass window at least had been pretty compared to the ugly feeling within her.
"Have you ever felt like something is missing inside you?" she asked her grandma, who came to pick her up many a day while her parents worked.
Things were strange between Gran and her parents, she never talked to them and they never talked to her and she never set foot onto their garden, preferring to wait for the little girl at the gate by the little dirt road.
Gran stilled and when the little girl glanced up at her, her face had gone dark and grim and for the first time in the girl's life, her beloved grandma, a joyful soul who loved her with all her heart, looked just a little bit frightening.
But her hand around the girl's remained gentle and the older woman kept walking at a sedate pace so her short little legs didn't struggle with keeping up.
Everyone always said to the girl that she would grow to be bigger and she couldn't wait for that day to arrive. Gran was silent for so long that the girl thought she was never going to answer.
"You best ask your parents about that," Gran said at last, voice quiet and heavy with something unspoken. Strangely, her voice reminded the girl of a draft horse she had seen, who had been forced to pull a too heavy burden, body straining as it slowly and laboriously set one hoof in front of the other.
"Alright," the girl answered and grinned up at her grandmother, hoping to break up the awful mood her innocent little question had created. "Can we make blueberry cake today?"
Gran smiled and it was like the sun returning after a dark, scary storm, her face brightening and looking as kind and loving as ever. "Of course, little chestnut." She leaned in, voice dipping into a conspiratorial stage whisper, "My wife picked an entire basket just this morning."
The little girl giggled and soon the two of them reached the end of the village, all talk about missing pieces and resulting, scary expressions forgotten. The blueberry cake was delicious and maybe a bit messy since the girl had tried to help a bit too enthusiastically and the cute little apron Gran had made for her was stained with purple-blue juice on one corner.
Gran's wife, Tanya, arrived just as they had taken the first bite of a still warm slice of cake.
"You baked without me?" she gasped in a mock scandalized voice. "Oh, the betrayal, how it stings!" She dramatically fell onto the kitchen table and the little girl laughed when the two older women broke out into a full blown performance just to ensure she kept laughing.
Gran brought her back home just as the sun set and a strong, steady wind blew in from the forest, bringing with it the smell of spring moss and damp, cool earth.
"If you ever meet any magical beings, be wary," Gran said as she stopped in front of the gate that creaked noisily as soon as it was two thirds of the way open.
She looked down at the girl, her face serious. "One day you might and if you do, they will offer you deals and nothing good ever comes from accepting their offers. They will only bring ruin in exchange for empty promises."
As solemnly as the little girl could, she offered her little pinky. "I promise to be careful," she said and a shadow of a smile crossed Gran's face as they hooked their pinkies around each other gently.
Gran leaned down to kiss the top of her head before she left with a glance towards the house and the girl briefly glanced towards the forest. It was an old forest, not quite as ancient as in other places, but surrounded by plenty of stories and mysteries.
The girl had heard rumors about creatures living in the woods, of magic being alive in ways the mages in the big cities could never hope to replicate. She decided to be very careful whenever she went into the woods to pick berries and mushrooms. She had promised, after all.
She entered her parents' house, neatly putting her boots beside her mother's and when she looked up at her parents, the question tumbled forth without much thought, "Why do I feel like I'm missing something?"
Her mother, who was currently carving leather, stilled so thoroughly she might as well have turned to stone. Her father, in the process of cooking, seemed to freeze in place, the stirring of his ladle abruptly falling silent.
"You're still growing," her mother answered at last, voice quiet and her gaze on her work. "It will pass in given time."
The little girl stared at her, startled silent and with increasing heartbreak as the seconds passed, for she had just learned what her mother sounded like when she lied.
*.*.*
The conversation with her parents stayed with the girl as the months and years passed and she never asked again. Gran said nothing either, but every time she picked the girl up, she now glared at the house.
Gran knew, the girl realized, but either couldn't say why she felt wrong or she didn't want to tell her.
Though, knowing her Gran, she probably couldn't for some reason. Gran had been born a rebel and she said she would die one, encouraging all of the little girl's bad habits, as her parents called them, with no remorse.
"This world will chew you up and spit you out, if you let it," Gran told her when she picked her up from school, her hand warm and gentle. "So don't be afraid to bare your teeth, little chestnut. Stand up for what you believe is right, that is the only way to slowly but surely kill off all things vile and dark."
The girl wasn't sure she entirely understood, but she nodded seriously anyway. Gran always told her everything no one else wanted to, blunt and direct without scaring her or hurting her feelings.
Gran felt strong, like a rushing river that wore down even the largest, toughest of boulders. The girl hoped she could be like her one day.
It was her Gran's teachings that got her in and out of trouble over the years and her words guided the girl into understanding when something was wrong. And how important it was to do something when she discovered evil.
As the village turned into a cute little town and more and more people moved in, drawing towards a hopeful future by their fertile lands and abundant forest, the girl had grown into a headstrong young woman.
Not once, in all that time, had she shaken off the feeling like she was lacking something. Like something was missing that should be there.
Her parents could no longer deny that something was wrong and their increasingly guilty and troubled looks said it all. It showed in the woman's life, that something within her was gone. As soon as someone looked into the little house she had moved into, they saw that no project was ever finished, every hobby dropped just after she had gained a modicum of skill in it.
She bounced from job to job, working for whoever hired her, before losing that job again, sometimes by leaving, sometimes by more talented, more passionate people coming along.
It was that restlessness that caused her to drift far enough from the town, the feeling of wrongness seemingly guiding her step, to cross paths with what she first thought was a traveling kind of circus.
There was a man leading the entire caravan of wagons, pale and primly dressed, clearly a mage considering his robes and pompous behavior as he hailed her down.
"We are no circus, young lady," he said when she asked about his business, but his eyes were cold and his smile about as pleasant as holding a palm full of slugs. "I am Master Egam and this is my curious collection. I intend to thoroughly impress the local lords."
He made a sweeping gesture at the wagons and she peered past him, at covered cages and grim looking soldiers.
Her gaze almost immediately fell back to the mage, however, and something ugly writhed within her chest. She couldn't put a finger on what it was, but it felt like sharp, uneven edges pressed against her ribs from within, accentuating the feeling of wrongness.
"Now, which way to the nearest town? It's growing rather late," Master Egam said, his smile wide and winning and yet it caused something cold to drip down her spine. There was a sudden taste of wet iron and rotting earth on her tongue.
It took her a moment to realize why, for she had never experienced anything like it. He had put magic into his words and it filled her mouth with a nasty taste. "This way, about a mile or so."
"Why don't you guide us?" he asked, patting the coach beside him. When she hesitated and saw a flash of curious danger in his eyes, she offered a bland smile.
"Thank you," she said, climbing up to join him, careful to keep some distance between them.
He stared at her for a moment and she resisted the urge to shift uncomfortably. "You seem strangely...familiar," he mused after a moment. "Have I met you before? Or family of yours?" When she looked genuinely surprised, he shook his head. "Right, that is very unlikely. Then again, you country bumpkins all look the same to me."
She was desperate to distract him from her, which was thankfully easy enough to accomplish. All it took was a question about his exploits and soon he regaled her with all the horrifying details. Of the creatures he captured, the magic he had soaked up from them, the power he carried at his fingertips.
He was bragging, yes, but she could tell that every word was the truth. That he had chained a vampire into enduring sunlight at his leisure, that he had plucked all the feathers of a harpy to parade her around naked and that he had a griffin eating out of his hand for his amusement.
That he had caught one the most dangerous beings of all, a forest spirit.
She was deeply relieved when her hometown came into view and then she got to see the effects of his magic first hand. His voice seemed to be made of gold, for all he had to do was speak and people immediately rushed to obey, star-struck expressions and delighted, downright smitten smiles appearing on their faces.
She inched away from Master Egam and ended up by one of the wagons instead. Unable to resist, she tugged a corner of the covering up and peered inside.
Green eyes that shimmered like all the shades of plant life in the forest met hers and broken antlers rose from red and gold hair that tumbled down in long, thick waves. The forest spirit, she realized as she stared at him, wide eyed, his face sun-kissed and freckled and even chained down as he was she could see his innate power and grace.
The broken antlers disappeared, swiftly replaced by wolf ears as he now bared vicious fangs at her, wicked claws scraping over the iron lining the bottom of his cage as he growled.
"Careful with that one," Master Egam's voice made her jump and drop the tarp. "He's the most dangerous one I ever caught. A nasty piece of work."
"Why do you catch them?" she found herself asking and as she looked up at him, she already knew the answer before he opened his mouth.
"Because I can," he said, his smile as empty as his eyes were cruel. "Because the wild powers in this world need to know that they can and will be tamed. Now run along and don't tell anyone about this."
His magic was iron-rot on her tongue as she nodded, hastily pasting a smile on her face. It felt like fleeing as she turned and hurried away, her heart racing in her chest and the ugly, vile feeling that had scraped around her ribcage finally lessened.
The wrongness within her was as present as ever, a constant companion of subtle misery that dodged her steps, silent only whenever she found joy in things. Joy that was taken from her by its steady, suffocating grip sooner or later.
As soon as she was home, she began to pace, her mind whirring. She had to do something and whatever magic Master Egam possessed, she was somehow immune against it. She might be the only one who could think clearly around him.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm. Master Egam was dangerous and she was just a magic-less young woman who was all wrong inside. If she wasn't careful, she wouldn't have to worry about what was missing for much longer.
It wasn't hard, in the end, to find out that Master Egam was staying in the mayor's house, that he had tossed him and his family out and now treated the most lavish place as his. The mayor and his wife and two children seemed dazed but they didn't question what was being done to them, they just went to stay with their extended family.
The wagons were kept by the mayor's house, blocking most of the street and guarded by the soldiers, which were armed and armored.
She watched them as the last sunlight faded, thinking. Beyond the window she could see the mage and people came to his home, bringing downright decadent food with loving smiles and hazy eyes, leaving again empty handed.
An idea began to take form. A foolish one, most certainly, but it was likely her best chance. While Master Egam was busy feasting and ordering people around, most likely fancying himself a king among peasants, he would be distracted.
On second thought, he was most likely not traveling to impress lords, but to work his way up to becoming the actual king of these lands. Maybe even an emperor, holding court among captured creatures and his magic charming everyone into blind obedience.
So she joined a group of townsfolk who came with carefully made little cakes and desserts and they barely acknowledged her. The soldiers didn't even looked at them, most likely long used to this song and dance.
It was less easy to go unnoticed by Master Egam, but the man was easily distracted by the new offerings, already a good way through half the food he had been given.
No human should have been able to consume so much without bursting, she thought and she wondered if this was the price of his magic. That he not only could eat far too much, but had to.
"Bring this to the beasties," he said, gesturing at a little bucket of bones and food scraps and the young woman took a decisive step towards it, keeping her head down as she grabbed the bucket, stepping outside without being stopped. Her mouth was filled with the taste of iron-rot.
The soldiers didn't pay her any heed now either. They looked bored and hungry as they watched another plate of food being brought in, but they said nothing. She wondered if they could even if they wanted to. If they were similarly charmed as anyone else.
"I need to feed them," she said politely to the nearest soldier, who moved woodenly to stare at her with a slightly hazy gaze. Ah, that answered her question. "I need the key, please. Master Egam's orders."
He handed the key over, because why wouldn't he? When everyone was always so fully under the mage's control, there was no reason to doubt. She went to the forest spirit's cage first, ignoring his low growl as she pushed the tarp up and began to look for the lock.
He fell silent as soon as she slipped the key into it and opened the door.
"I'll get you out," she whispered and his head tipped to the side, his wolf ears flicking as he considered her. And then, ever so slowly without removing those intense eyes from her, he tipped his head back, baring his collared throat.
She crawled into the cage, making sure to pull the door almost-closed behind her, the tarp falling down and leaving her in murky darkness with only her slightly fast breathing and pounding heart. She slowly inched forward, patting the ground, until clawed fingers carefully closed around her hand, guiding it up.
The collar had no lock and she stilled, her heart leaping in her chest. What was she supposed to do now?
"Bleed," the forest spirit said, voice such a horrible rasp that she was half convinced his throat was full of glass shards. "Willing offer."
She wasn't even thinking when she reached out with her free hand, gripping his fingers and pressing her palm against his claws. She felt him jerk in surprise, but the pain was already blooming, blood running down her hand in a hot line. She reached out to press her hand to his collar, smearing as much of her blood on it as possible and the next second the collar clicked open, crashing to the floor with a rattle of chains.
The forest spirit inhaled sharply and then she felt his hands touch her shoulder, careful and helping her shuffle a bit to the side. Freeing the path to the cage door, she realized
"Free the others, please," he whispered, his voice no longer sounding like he was gargling gravel, but instead charming and lovely-sweet. Her mouth was filled with the faint taste of meadow-flowers and cool spring water.
Then he was out of the cage and she scrambled to follow him, catching the door before it could slam shut.
The guards were lying on the ground and she saw the forest spirit springing past the last one he had taking down, vaulting over a confused man with a tart and heading straight into the house, face snarling in rage.
The next cage held the plucked harpy, who hissed a high-pitched shriek at her, but fell similarly silent when the door to the cage was unlocked.
Her collar too opened with blood and then the harpy was out, her feathers re-growing with a burst of magic that was almost painful with its relief. She took flight immediately, though she clearly struggled as she escaped, as did the griffin the young woman freed.
The vampire slunk out of his cage with a look of wild hunger and gratitude before he was gone between one moment and the next. Just in time for all the windows in the house to shatter outward in a massive wave of pressure, the forest spirit crashing to the ground, wheezing and covered in blood.
The young woman was at his side in no time and as she gripped him and saw him in the light of the street lanterns without the distractions of his eyes, she realized just how thin he was. How his limbs shook as he struggled to his feet.
He stumbled, eyes going wide when she dragged him with her, just in time to round the corner before Master Egam came out of the house with magic whipping around him, a howl of rage filling the night as he found all his cages empty, his guards unconscious – or perhaps dead – on the ground.
"What are you doing," the forest spirit hissed, but he seemed unable to free himself from her grip, which told her everything she needed to know. She wasn't weak by any means, but she got the impression that he should be far stronger than she.
"Saving you," she hissed back. "You're in no condition to fight!"
"Return them to me!" she heard Master Egam's voice boom behind her, so loud and rattling it filled the entire town, making people cower and stumble, their gazes going hazy. "And find me the one who did this!"
Her mouth was filled with the taste of iron-rot to the point where she had to gag, but she managed to push on, reaching the little house she had moved into after she could no longer stand the guilty silence of her parents. The moment they were through the door, the forest spirit collapsed to the floor, breathing hard, sweating and bleeding.
"His magic," he said as he stared up at her with wide, bright green eyes that she knew she could get lost in if she allowed it. "It doesn't work on you. Why?"
"No idea," she murmured back. "Come, we have to hide you."
She had managed to empty out a large storage chest and squeezed him inside despite his protest just in time for her neighbors to come knocking.
"No one is here, I came looking," she said, heart pounding and blood still dripping from her hand as she gestured at the hastily strewn about contents of her chest. "I made sure they weren't hiding."
"Come help search," her neighbors murmured, gazes hazy and she followed them outside, hoping that the spirit stayed where he was, that he wouldn't be found.
She searched with the others until they were all ready to collapse and only then did Master Egam order them to rest with such fury that the cobblestone cracked around him. He had long since roused his guards – most of which were still alive – and had sent them out to the forest to capture those that had run for the woods.
"They can't go far," she heard him mutter to himself as he turned around to head back into the house. "Not with the state I left them all in."
He wasn't wrong.
When the young woman returned home, she found the forest spirit still in the storage chest, asleep and looking utterly exhausted. She dropped into her bed and slept until hunger forced her awake.
The smell of cooking food woke the spirit as well and she stared in astonished surprise as he ate at an alarmingly fast rate. Half her pantry was gone by the time he curled up in front of the hearth and went straight back to sleep. She dropped a thick blanket on him and arranged pillows to hide him from the outside and sat down, thinking.
Master Egam was powerful and she had no idea if she could hide the spirit until he regained his strength, especially if he needed that much food every day. And even then there was no guarantee that he'd be powerful enough to defeat the mage. But, she reasoned, he might be able to escape, which was just as good in her opinion.
She dozed off and woke feeling warm, blinking blearily to realize the blanket was now draped over her, the pillows carefully arranged to leave her in a little nest. Only the floor beneath her was a little hard. Peering around, alarm searing through her, worrying that something had happened, she relaxed as soon as she saw the spirit.
He stood with his back to her, looking at all the half finished projects she had lying around, not having the heart to put them away, even though she already knew she'd never finish them. That this was it and her love for a new hobby she had found was instead curdling into quiet, miserable grief.
"Thank you," he said before turning towards her. He already looked far better than yesterday, less gaunt and shaky on his feet. His injuries were gone as well, leaving only a somewhat tattered, stained shirt and worn, knee-length pants over hale and whole skin behind.
He tipped his head and the way the light of a lit candle reflected in his eyes reminded her of the way animal eyes would look when a lantern swept past them in the dark. "What do you want in return for your help?"
She paused after sitting up, then shrugged. "I don't want anything." Gran had been very firm about deals with magic creatures, that they brought ruin more often than not, her voice harsh and bitter as she had said it. As if there was more to her words than mere warnings.
Besides, the young woman had grown up on stories about daring knights, wise mages and courageous princesses and princes. She had always wanted to be like them, to do good with her own two hands whenever possible. Had secretly dreamed about one day saving someone as she had grown up.
It had been far more scary and harrowing than in her imagination, but she'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.
"You want nothing," the spirit repeated, sounding like he didn't believe her. "Everyone wants something, help is never freely given. Especially not from my kind and especially not when you saved my life. Do not take that kind of thing lightly."
"All I want is for you to be safe," she said. "Don't get hurt again, promise me that."
The forest spirit inhaled sharply, pupils blowing wide until only a small ring of green remained and she felt a warm shiver go through the air. Like something powerful had just exhaled a blessing.
He said nothing for a long moment, before he dipped his head, suddenly looking regal as the wolf ears melted away and antlers appeared that looked far more intact than last night. "Very well."
He joined her by the hearth, dropping down to one knee and offered his hand. "Let me see your wound."
She held out her hand and felt a tingle of magic, could taste soft, gentle meadow flowers and refreshing water as relief took away the lingering pain. Her palm was unmarred, not even a scar remaining.
"You have no idea what you just gave me, do you?" he asked quietly when she looked at him, his gaze so very captivating it looked like the entirety of the forest had gathered in his eyes.
She offered a small, crooked smile. "I've never been around magic," she said, all too aware that he was still holding her hand, skin warm like sunshine. "You can hide here until you've recovered."
He tipped his head to the side. "You would welcome me even now, knowing who is looking for me?"
"You're safe here," she answered. "He can't charm me and you need time to recover. Just make sure no one sees you."
"What do you desire for your help in return?" he asked. "And don't say nothing again."
She thought of the wrongness within her and wondered if magic could fix it. Then she remembered Gran's warnings about deals and ruin and bit back a sigh.
"I'll think about something," she said, though she didn't intend to. Once the spirit was strong enough, he would either fight or leave, but either way she doubted she would ever see him again.
He didn't look happy about that, but accepted her answer graciously enough. Getting to her feet, the young woman waved him with her to the kitchen corner. If he was eating her out of house and home he could help her cook.
When it became clear he was actually the better cook, since she hadn't been able to learn too much before her wrongness had kicked in, she happily left him to it and grabbed her money, sneaking out.
The entire town was walking around in a strange sort of haze, half of them still searching and the other half catering to the mage.
She saw people bring more food to the mayor's house, along with other things. Jewels and prized possessions, feathers the harpy had and griffin had lost and one or two held squeaking bats in their gloved hands, as though hoping they might be the escaped vampire.
No one looked twice at her when she bought as much food as she could at the market and she bit back bitter worry when she saw Gran and Granny Tanya bring blueberry cake to the mage with happy smiles.
Only her parents didn't seem to be out and about. Strange.
She brought the food back home and the forest spirit noticeably relaxed once she was back, thanking her quietly before falling quiet again. The young woman, however, could only stand the silence for so long before she began to ask questions.
Before long she knew that the forest spirit had gotten captured in his sleep, that his home was to the north and that he could sense the power of the nearby forest.
They both fell asleep in front of the hearth and by the second day, the young woman dragged her bedding out into the living room and made a proper place to rest for the two of them.
The forest spirit was in a better mood today and she realized that under all the tense grimness he was rather playful and enjoyed teasing and, most of all, making her laugh. She noticed as the days passed how he regained his strength, the gauntness disappearing faster than it would have for a regular person.
They kept busy in the small house in different ways. She watched him finish some of her craft projects and taught him to dance, he conjured sprigs of flowers for them to 'pretty up the place with' as he said and he let her brush out and braid his hair after long baths, the bath water never cooling until they were well and truly done.
Every night they curled up on the hearth together and it was then, as he looked at her, hair a healthy, shining red and gold and fox ears perked to listen better, that the truth spilled out.
How wrong inside she felt and he frowned at her in what she recognized as worry.
"May I?" he asked, holding out his hand and she put hers into his without a moment's hesitation. His face went soft and gentle in a way that ached somewhere around her tender heart as he held her hand with care.
Then he closed her eyes and she could taste meadow flowers and cold water and his frown deepened.
"I - you must talk to your parents," he said and as soon as the words were out, his head reared back a bit, ears pinning flat to his head as he blinked, looking startled and irritated. "Oh, how nasty."
She stared at him, wide-eyed and for the first time got the feeling that something was very, very wrong in a different way than she had thought.
"I'll go now," she whispered and he nodded, giving her hand an encouraging squeeze before she got to her feet.
Her parents looked worried and tense when they opened the door, relaxing a bit when they saw it was her, only for the tension to snap back into their frames. She realized immediately that they knew why she was here.
That there was a reason why she and they alone weren't slaves to the magic-charm of a mad mage. That they did know why she felt like a piece was missing.
"What's wrong with me?" she asked, sharp and hard in a way she had never spoken with them and they stepped aside to let her in.
They stood around the living room awkwardly until her father broke first, guilty and defensive and shoulders hunched, the silence around them heavy and thick and oppressive like summer heat without a cooling breeze.
"We didn't know," he said, almost pleading as he looked at his daughter. "When we met that...that man on our travels. We didn't know."
Something hot was wrapping around her heart and throat and a bad feeling unfolded in her gut, wriggling to get comfortable like a cat in a beam of sunlight. "Tell me the truth. Now. You owe me that much at least."
"We asked for a good life," her mother whispered, staring down at the ground, arms wrapped around herself and her head bent, shoulders tense. "We asked for nothing unreasonable, because being greedy only curses you. We asked for a good, warm, house, for enough money to buy what we desired until our deaths and to lead healthy, long and safe lives. We wanted the sort of fortune that would ensure we would have everything we desired until the day we died."
The heaviness in the air seemed to press down harder, like a thick blanket over sticky, sweaty skin, trapping heat and impossible to shake, no matter how desperately she wanted to get rid of it.
"What was the price?" the young woman asked, her tongue almost numb in her mouth. Though, she already knew. Could feel it in the marrow of her bones, could feel it in the stained glass shape of her soul, all disjointed and wrong and missing missing missing. Always missing something.
"You were but a babe," her father answered before she could ask again. "We didn't think...when he asked for a piece of you, something that wouldn't hurt you if he took it, we thought, well, if you grew up without it...you wouldn't know what you were missing."
Her heart shouldn't break, she thought, as pain and anger and grief greedily dug into her chest and belly. It shouldn't break when she didn't even feel all that surprised to hear what they were saying.
She thought of her life filled with things she couldn't finish, couldn't dedicate herself to no matter how deeply she loved, like her hands were too restless, desperately trying to find something to fill the void within her. All the friendships she had lost over the years, the disappointed people she had worked with and most of all, how miserable she had been.
She thought about feeling wrong and disjointed and like a stained glass window made by a clumsy apprentice and with the intent to make other people whisper and point and laugh instead of impressing them.
Weird, strange, not-fitting-in. Wrong.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, had sung through her veins for as long as she could remember and she had walked through life feeling like a part of her was gone, but unable to voice it. Unable to even name what was missing.
Thinking that, maybe, this was just her lot in life. That nothing could be done about it and she had tried to do her best with the hand she had been dealt by fate.
And all this time, her parents had just...traded that part of her away. For small comforts. For a future they could have made themselves with their own hands had they cared to try. For a life bartered and paid for by someone else, so they wouldn't have to shoulder the burden.
And then they had lied to her about it, had left her thinking that nothing could be done to make her feel better. That this was normal.
"Who?" she asked numbly and she blinked, realizing she was halfway to the door. When she looked at her parents, hot, angry hatred crawled up her throat like a wave of lava at seeing their wounded, self-pitying faces. "Who did you allow to hurt me?"
"Master Egam," her father whispered, his voice barely audible in the heavy, suffocating silence. "We can't let him see us or he might remember."
She was out the door before he could finish speaking, heart breaking and racing and she wasn't surprised at all, even though she thought she should be. So that was why his magic wasn't working on her – and her parents, if part of their deal was to remain healthy and unharmed at all times. Just what had Egam taken from her to make a deal that protected them no matter what?
She didn't remember the path home, but the moment the door fell closed behind her, she looked at the forest spirit and all the breath rushed back into her lungs. He was waiting with a plate of cookies he had baked that afternoon and his gaze was so gentle and understanding it made the wounded part of her tremble.
He opened his arms, a silent invitation and for a moment there was so much awful anguish in her, she didn't know what to do. Had no idea how to react if someone touched her, if it would drain the pain and anger or make it spill over, ugly and messy and raw. Like a wound that had had years and years and years to grow until it had spread and festered.
Then she moved and let him catch her and cradle her close as she broke down, crying as bitterly and hard as she had never cried before. He held her tightly as she shook apart, her head tucked under his chin and she cried and cried until she felt empty inside. Empty and wrong.
"They gave a piece of me to Egam," she whispered, voice thick and scratchy and he stilled. She tightened her grip on the shirt she had gotten him during one of her trips to the market, where food had started to grow scarce. "In exchange for a good, comfortable life."
He cupped the back of her head and kept holding her, offering no empty platitudes and no 'I'm sorry's, for which she was grateful. She didn't want sorrys. She was...she was too damn fucking furious for that, she realized, now that the pain had momentarily drained away.
"I want it back," she said, biting the words out like they were bones snapping between her teeth. "I want it back and I want this monster gone."
He hugged her tighter and she felt his smile press against her temple, sharp and dangerous and fanged and not the least bit afraid of her rage. Not the least bit judgmental the way others had reacted to her anger over the years.
"Let's shred him," he whispered against her hair, soft lips brushing forehead. "Let's get back what he stole from us."
*.*.*
It hadn't taken too long to prepare. The forest spirit had recovered fully and there wasn't anything in town that could help them against a mage, but in the end, they didn't need much anyway.
They didn't need fancy things or mage slayers. Not when the mage in question would give them the weapons they needed, born out of his own greed and hubris.
Born out of a deal he had made with her parents and Gran really was right, deals only ever brought ruin. Because she and the part Egam had taken from her were about to become his.
The forest spirit gave her hand a squeeze and they exchanged one more look as they got ready behind her house, his eyes fierce and so trusting it briefly stole her breath away.
"When this is over, travel with me," he said, out of nowhere. "I want to show you my home. The brooks and meadows and mountains and lake."
She smiled back, a warmth that had nothing to do with the burning rage spreading through her, smoothing down her edges and settling around her heart like a protective blanket.
"Gladly," she answered quietly, then her smile turned a bit crooked. "What, you aren't going to ask for anything in exchange, leaf boy?"
He laughed softly and leaned down to press a kiss to the top of her head. "You're too precious for deals," he said quietly and she could taste his magic, sweet and cool and it almost brought tears to her eyes, though she couldn't quite say why.
"Let's go," she said instead and he reached up to gather his hair, pulling it aside to allow her to put the pilfered chain from the wagon around his neck. They had scratched out all the symbols on the inside of the iron, destroying the enchantment that would block his magic.
With a bit of glue it would stay shut for now and he caught her hands, pressing a kiss to her knuckles until they stopped shaking. They both took a deep breath and stepped onto the street, a glamor settling over his skin, making him look gaunt and injured once more. He limped, casting her one last wink before people noticed them.
The townsfolk paid attention to her for the first time in nearly a month as she went to the mage's house. Word must have traveled ahead, for Master Egam was already awaiting them and the mayor's house was saturated with iron-rot. She could see a few hints here and there of the chaos that must've reigned before he had gotten things cleaned up to welcome them, sitting on a padded chair like it was a throne.
"Bring him to me, girl," he said, beckoning and his smile benevolent and his eyes glittering like cold glass shards. His hunger was deep enough to cut and she bit back a shiver at the disgust that crept beneath her skin the closer she came to him.
"My prized possession," Egam murmured, already ignoring her and his magic grew thicker in the air, almost making her gag. The forest spirit pretended to fight, snarling as he was dragged forward, looking like he was too weak to resist. "And you put him back in his proper attire too, good girl."
He absentmindedly patted her on the head and she made herself smile at him, empty and dazzled, like the other townsfolk, swallowing down bile. The spirit had told her that Egam had stolen a piece of his magic too, forcefully instead of willingly, but it was in his hands all the same.
It was time to get back what belonged to them.
She handed over the chain, his gaze on the forest spirit like he wanted to devour him whole. Like the monsters and villains in her stories growing up, greedy and cruel and insatiable.
Egam moved past her, already discarding her as unimportant. As under his control. As just another 'country bumpkin'. He was the powerful mage after all and, as he had said, he already had one of the most powerful beings under his control.
A powerless girl might as well be dirt under his boots.
That was the exact reason he didn't see her nick her hand on a small knife hidden in her pocket. Why he didn't see her smile at the forest spirit over his shoulder before reaching out.
He didn't look at her and therefore couldn't react in time when she stepped to his side and reached up, pressing her bloody hand over his heart at the same time that the forest spirit lunged forward.
The mage did react, aiming his magic at the bigger, perceived threat, like they had suspected. And just like they had hoped, his magic slid off of the forest spirit harmlessly, for when the young woman had saved his life and he had offered her compensation of the same magnitude, she had asked for him to be safe.
The forest spirit was unhindered, pressing bloody palms to the mage's chest, right over his heart, sharp, sharp teeth bared and he snarled, "I undo the deal."
"I undo the deal," she spoke simultaneously with him, the words the forest spirit had taught her, steady and patient as each one was nothing but pain in her throat. Because she wasn't supposed to say those words, but then again, parents weren't supposed to give away what didn't belong to them either, so she had a right to this.
A right to undo what had been done to her, as long as she could get through the pain that tried to keep her from speaking. Pain that was worse than any wrongness had ever been, any loneliness and pain and grief and self-loathing for not being like all the other people.
For never getting to keep doing the things she loved, forever searching for something she hadn't known she'd have to buy back with blood and pain.
It was the worst pain she had ever endured, but it wasn't stronger than the rage in her veins, the taste of iron-rot on her tongue and the sun-warm hand that took her free, unharmed one, grounding and strong. The look of startled anger on the mage's face swiftly morphing into fear was everything in this moment.
"I undo the deal made made without my voice, without my consent, without my agreement. I undo it as it was made, in pain and blood and betrayal," they spoke in perfect unison, their only chance to both get back what had been taken from them.
Their only chance to catch him so by surprise that he did feel betrayed, that he was as helpless as they had been, asleep and a babe respectively.
The moment the last word left her mouth, a sudden relief gripped her throat, releasing the burning agony that had torn through it and at the same time, she felt something warm and big spread through her chest.
The wrongness disappeared in an instant, the feeling of missing turning into wholeness so filling and great she almost stumbled back, her skin tingling and euphoria singing through her so brightly she had to sob. Because that wasn't just a missing piece, a sliver of soul that he had taken and that was now returned to her.
Magic, he had taken magic from her. It glittered like stars in the dark in her veins, spilled through her mind like bright sunlight on shimmering waves and wrapped around her with a desperation like it had longed to return to her as relentlessly as she had wanted it to return to her.
Egam was screaming as he stumbled back and they let him, watched him trip and spill to the ground as he writhed, clawing at his chest where blood smeared, hot and red and the forest spirit gripped her hand tighter.
His magic was heavy in the air, making her taste rivers and entire fields full of flowers and even from the corner of her eye she could see how much more vibrant he was now, the glamor dropped. Captivating and downright otherworldly, beautiful and mesmerizing.
"What have you done!" Egam shrieked but his words no longer tasted of iron-rot in the air and she blinked, realizing the power of his voice had been stolen from someone else. As she watched him seemingly shrink down, magic leaving him, her breath caught.
Oh. Her magic had been the first he had stolen. Her magic was what had bolstered all of his and now that it was gone, everything he was unraveled until it left behind a pitiful little man, with eyes so mean and cruel he should belong in a story, not in real life.
"I promised you I would be your end," the forest spirit said and his voice was filled with magic. The sort of magic that had previously been used by Egam to charm everyone. "I think your hunger and greed are better suited in a different shape and form. In something that grows, don't you?"
And Egam tried to scramble to his feet and run, but the magic of the forest spirit was so thick in the air it her own magic sing in return, bright and sparking and the fury was still a living, roiling wave of heat within her. She reached out without much thought, letting her magic wrap around the forest spirit's, who threw his head back and laughed.
He laughed as Egam screamed in a pitch no human throat should be capable of. He laughed as the screams cut off and branches broke out of his back, his skin turning to bark and the mage grew and grew and stretched and the young woman found herself pulled out the house as floorboards and walls, doors and furniture and remains of windows were devoured.
She watched as a tree grew and grew and grew until the trunk was as wide as the house had been and it reached high into the sky, the canopy so thick and wide it sheltered the entire town under its boughs.
And her magic was singing and singing and singing and she felt so hale and whole she felt like she was floating. The forest spirit turned towards her, grinning and took her injured hand, pressing a kiss to the cut, smearing blood over his lips as he healed it.
"We're free now," he whispered, eyes so very green and then she was laughing and crying and pulling him forward and he followed her, pressing kisses that tasted like fading copper and brightly like flowers and cold water to her lips.
They were free. Free and whole at last and she felt like she was truly breathing for the first time since she could remember. Deep breaths that seemed to fill her entire body, her magic twining with his as it surrounded them, forest and sky and her tears were wiped away with gentle, gentle hands.
"We are," she whispered, sinking her hands into his hair until she had threaded starlight through it. "Let me introduce you to Gran and Granny Tanya and then I want to see your home."
He laughed and picked her up and twirled her in a circle and she found herself laughing as well, flowers blooming to form a crown on her head.
Where previously a quiet sort of misery had loomed in her future, saturating all coming days, she now couldn't wait to see what the rest of her life looked like.
Bright, she thought as she held his face in her hands, their foreheads gently pressing together. Her future was bight and free and full of love and she was still laughing and crying, happy beyond words. And her magic, finally, finally returned to her, sang and shone and at long last, she felt nothing but right inside.

Our Nest: Tsrul
Fic description: your daily life and a backstory of how you became the new chosen tsahik of the Metkayina village, including caring for your Metkayina brothers and sisters, your marui hut, and your headstrong mate: Tonowari, brave Olo’eyktan <3 who takes care of his people, most importantly: his mate 🤍 through trouble such as heat. Together they make happy memories <3
Tw: starts off with fluff/ storyline— with some smut halfway in. Smut warnings: Heavy service kink, dom-coded Tonowari, sub-coded fem reader. Inclusion of heat and rut cycles (omegaverse) Na’vi mated pair. Setting: Metkayina village.

The warm beam of the Pandoran sun warmed your skin, as you tossed and turned on the mat of your shared marui hut. It’s been around ten months or so — since you had mated for life with Olo’eyktan of the Metkayina: Tonowari.
—————-
At first he seemed intimidating, fierce. You grew up as a simple village woman, and only got his attention a few years ago: when your spiritual talents were discovered. You felt a direct connection to Eywa. You could hear her at times, feel physical sensation in group rituals connected to the spirit tree, far off the reef. People began to notice. After the death of Tsahik Ronal in the war with the sky people, ultimately — the clan, including Olo’eyktan himself, have been looking for a replacement. You were their answer, their only hope. Tonowari himself went to the tree of voices to seek out if you were really the next Tsahik — and his next mate.
The ancestors approved.
It was decided. You were to be the next Tsahik. At first he seemed intimidating, fierce. You did not mate with him at first, simply got to know him, work with him. You advised the people greatly, led rituals in connecting to the great mother. As time passed, you soon found out the inner temperament of the great warrior, Tonowari.
He was sweet. Gentle. Caring. He was strong — a noticeable size difference between the two of you. He would keep an eye on you when you swam with your Tulkun sister. He even gave you your very first Metkayina tattoo. He taught you how to ride tsurak. (skimwing) You taught him how to better pray and connect with Eywa and the ancestors at the sacred sites. The two of you began to care for each other.
So it was — one beautiful night, with the blue halo of the Pandoran moon shining over the calm reef, you hopped on tsurak with him. You giddily clung onto his broad shoulders as the two of you quickly rode to the outskirts of the reef: the spirit tree. Underwater, his blue eyes piercing yours, as the two of you mate for life before Eywa.
“I will provide. My mate, my love, as long as you are with me, I will be lefpom (happy).” This he promised you, as you ran your hands through his hair, as the two of you connected with each other with tsaheylu. He never broke his promise.
~ present day ~
The Pandoran sun felt pleasant on your skin, as you tossed over in your mat. Your eyes squint — attempting to adjust to the brightness. Why was it so bright in there?
You sit up, confused. The string of beads that served as the entrance was closed, yet you saw some of your mate’s hunting tools scattered on the side. Where was your mate? You look around the hut, mindlessly picking up a few of the stones you were using for purification last night.  “Wari?,” you croak out.
A sharp pain makes its way through your stomach, and begins to spread to the rest of your body. It was dull, bothersome, and you felt it as you barely got yourself up, your ears bent, tail swishing erratically. You try and think, the two of you were bonded, and so you tried reaching out for him through tsahelyu, to figure out where he may be.
You saw nothing, except visions of him outside the reef. The pain started to get worse, and your body began to burn, tingle, ache. You knew this pain before. It was your heat — without your mate, you couldn’t relieve yourself, and couldn’t uphold duties of Tsahik of Awa’atlu, your village. Clutching your lower stomach, you laid down and prayed to Eywa that your mate would sense your situation, and come back. A few of the townswomen gathered around your Marui, asking if they can send a message to Tonowari.
~Eastern sea, outside the reef ~
Tonowari and his men were currently on a few tsurak (skimwing) searching for a missing ilu. “Ma’Olo’eyktan!!,” a young Na’vi approaches the group of Na’vi men, met with concerned looks.
The Olo’eyktan’s blue eyes rapidly switched onto the young Na’vi. “You may speak, boy. What is it?.” “Tsahik. Your mate. She’s in…, well…” “Do not say it. By Eywa’s will, no Na’vi should come near her at the moment,” the chief’s tone of voice suddenly turned sour, as he realized that his mate was in a vulnerable state, unprotected. Worst of all — without him there.
The chief then tells his other men to continue without him, rushing his tsurak back onto the other side of the reef, where the village was. His strong calfs bulged as he balanced on tsurak, riding the waves, his long hair curled a bit from the breeze. He huffed, thinking about the despair his sweet mate had to have been in. He should not have gone outside the reef today — he had an inner feeling, yet he ignored it. His mate had taught him better…
He rushes onto the sand, climbing his way up to the marui. The scent hits him right in the face — it was very obvious what you were going through in there. He huffs in anger as he shoos away a few young Na’vi men from outside your hut.
He steps inside, bracing himself for what’s to come.
~~
“Wari. Ma muntxtatan. (mate) I’ve missed you,” you barely whisper out to him, the pain has gotten more intense, since you were by yourself. “Look at me. Mawey, (calm) my love,” he says as he sits next to your curled up body, his large hand tracing circles over the small of your back, which did make you feel a bit better — only a bit.
“It hurts a lot…,” you trail off, turning around to look at him. His large forearm moves further, moving you closer to him, so he is holding you in his lap. With his other hand, he trails a finger over your tattoo (the one he has given you) on your chest. “I know, my love, ma sevin, (pretty) I will make it go away. I should not have left you. I gave you a promise, my mate, to protect. I should have been here,” he tells you, in a serious tone.
You were too delirious on his scent to really understand what he was talking about, yet you smile and nod, whining a bit, clawing on his large forearms, hoping that he would get the hint. He did.
“Tsaheylu,” he agrees, connecting the two of your queues. Some of the pain is transferred over to him — and some of the arousal as well.
His large hand gently cups your cheek as he brings you in for a kiss, a passionate one, lasting longer than you expected. Your soft lips meet his, dancing a bit with each other, your tiny hand reaches to trace his necklace. “Ma tsrul,” (nest) he affectionately calls you, as he feels through tsaheylu that it is time to go further.
He lays you down on the mat, admires your face, your eyes closed, panting, hot from the heat that’s overtaken your body. “Do not worry, Mawey, ma syulang,” he tries to calm you, as he feels you burning up beside him. His hands trail over your body, your thin arms in comparison to his large ones, your thin tail, that striped pattern he loved so much.
In desperation, you run your fingers through his hair, grabbing his square and chiseled face. “Wari. Want it in, ma mate…,” you trail off, hoping he gets the picture. He did. Your hands work quickly to untie his cloth, he checks outside the marui quickly to make sure there are no unwanted visitors. His strength shows as he rips your cloth right off, revealing your very wet and puffed lips, to his already erect, ten inch cock, leaking a bit of pre-cum, mushroom shaped head all swollen.
“Does my syulang want my knot?,” your mate taunts you, as his cock slips in with ease, sliding into place like a puzzle piece, as he begins gently thrusting in and out of you, filling you up so perfectly. <3
You agree, begging for him to give you his knot, through bursts of short moans. “Ma munxtate, (mate) she is so demanding, asking for this,” he taunts. “She is lucky to have Olo’eyktan as her mate, to protect her, breed her even, she is truly his, truly mine,” he grunts out, in between thrusts, as his hands grip your hips so tightly, the skin there begins to be irritated.
“Ma Wari, yes, I am yours,” you agree, his words and powerful thrusts sending the both of you over the edge. You feel his knot swell inside you, an evolutionary safeguard to make sure that his seed takes inside you. You assumed it was the right time, perhaps, for your nest to grow.
His knot fully swells inside you, and he moves you over to the side, so you can lay on top of him, his wife, warm chest a comfort to you, as you can down from your heat induced pain. You felt a warmth in your womb, a warmth that felt nice <3 that felt, right. As if it was meant to be, by Eywa’s grace.
“Ma munxtatan. Irayo. (Thank you),” you say, as you pepper his face with kisses. He smiles a warm smile at you — “of course. It is my job to protect, to make sure that my mate is happy. I could not oversee the village without you — and my life would be empty without my Tsahik by my side, overseeing our marui — our tsrul (nest).” The two of you fall asleep together, knot still intact.
~~ A few months later ~
You mostly stayed in the marui nowadays, coming out occasionally to lead prayer sessions. You were happier than ever, serving your mate and the community, as well as having a new life inside you <3 finally being able to carry on your mate’s genes, his legacy and yours, making a new one, a child, the very start of your family!!
The both of you spent hours decorating and moving things around in the marui, to make sure that it would be just right for your future little one <3
Tonowari also grew very protective of you, throughout your pregnancy, he would not let you gather herbs alone in the inland’s of the island, or allow you to go out at night without his supervision. That was fine with you, you knew you were safe in the hands of your mate, a powerful leader <3 and you loved nothing more than being his mate, his Tsahik.
