SMxAD 31 for 31 2022 October 11 Movie: the Devils Candy Directed by Sean Byrne I thought this movie was had a cool premise, an excellent cast, and a plethora of heavy metal music and imagery(paintings in the movie were painted by Cleveland’s own Stephen Kasner R.I.P.) The end almost felt like an afterthought, but that is really my biggest gripe about this one. Holy Mother of metal! I've had The Devil's Candy in my collection for years, according to the disc it still has the blockbuster logo on it. So, I would've brought it around the time my local blockbusters were disappearing. I remember I brought it purely because of the cover art and forget about the movie for years until today. The Devil's Candy plays with the theory of heavy metal music and Satan. It plays with the theory of how these two tiptoe around each other. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. I think I was excepting some sort of heavy metal inspired dreams coming true type of story instead I got a friggin slaughter house. The Devil's Candy is a horror film. It's aboustely friggin brilliant! The way it plays its cards is in a way that I don't think I've seen done and they do it while having their score/soundtrack with heavy metal. The way it warps it's audio carefully around the score and dialogue not only to show the mindset of the characters but also to mess with the senses of the audience particularly when it's a song that everyone loves and you want to start jamming to it but can't because it's used as a ploy to play with the story. The way it uses it's painting montage scenes with the death scenes, showcasing the two worlds that balance eachother. 112) The Devil’s Candy is a 2015 horror movie written and directed by Sean Byrne. It’s the story of a struggling painter and metal music lover who moves to a new house in Texas with his family, and as soon as he starts painting he’s possessed by a demonic force that will affect his relationship with the daughter. Unfortunately I hadn’t the chance to watch it in theatres, it would have had another effect because I was blown away by everything about it. In the last years some independent horror movies proved to be very refreshing in the style, like The Witch or The Babadook, and I admit that this one was fantastic too. I enjoyed a lot the soundtrack, metal music fits perfectly with the tone of the film. Besides, the editing is simply perfect, along with a clean direction without unnecessary camera movements. I like also the fact that the family is strong, the father is somehow possessed by this force that tries to make him embrace evil and neglect his daughter. The evil is represented by this dirty, fat guy who hears voices too and wants to feed the devil with candys. It’s a proof that often it’s not necessary to show creatures to craft a horror story, but it’s the psychological aspect that matters. Number 24 The Devil’s Candy. That was pretty damn epic. I was genuinely scared throughout a lot of it. I liked it because I’m obsessed with serial killers and I think filmmakers are getting better at making them more authentic. However I have to take major points away for this film’s stereotypical depiction of people with mental disabilities implying them to be violent and dangerous. I have to also mention that the music was really amazing. Heavy Metal is such an obvious, but over looked, genre of music for horror films. I think the most successful part of this movie was how the filmmakers managed to put you right in the shoes of almost all the characters, even the bad guy. There were a lot of really good scenes in this one. I would have liked this movie a little better if it ended more realistically.
