There is no justification for this.

truly if you think tlt is positive about or even neutral on christianity (and catholicism specifically) i think you need to go back and reread tbh. because in the very first book we learn that this is a series where two people murder 200 children that were placed in their care because they believe their religion justifies or even compels it. the real-life parallels are almost too on the nose.

I know the common headcanon in the Scream fandom is that Amber had absent/negligent parents, but I'd like to invert it:

Amber had a perfectly normal, loving family, with a mom and dad and two younger siblings. Mr and Mrs. Freeman never seemed to like Tara, but she could never figure out why.

Turns out Amber's manipulation extended to even her own parents. She made Tara believe she had a rough home life, and made her parents believe Tara was a bad influence. That way neither party would go to the other if they had any concerns, making it much harder for Amber to be caught in any wrongdoing. It resulted in Mr and Mrs. Freeman resenting Tara for corrupting their "sweet, innocent daughter."

The Freemans pack up and leave town pretty soon after the events of 5, but not before cornering Tara and letting him know they thought what happened to Amber was his fault. It sticks with him with for a very long time.
