i like that they view the songs and performance as one because again, the reason im here to begin with is because i wanted to watch cool dancing that fit my taste and they did the trick, and then i loved their music so v much. but i do wish they viewed their music as stand alone too <3 they have intense and intricate dances that they're not gonna be able to do once they hit their later years (if they're still together) so its like -.- look out for our own backs boys, pls
#theres certain songs of theirs that i Have to dance to when they come on so in that sense i too view them as one but BUT!!!!!!!! music is#music. you won't always get to hear it live. some bands sound great live but suck in the studio that's just how things can be and vice vers#i fear that a lot of kpop doesn't think long term in the sense of musical longevity. they're looking for the next big song to make money of#of and i understand that's how the industry runs but! wouldn't you like to be able to listen to your own stuff as a group later on and thin#'we had a really solid discography. let me put this on'#things should be able to live on even outside of their context in my opinion and i hope they're considering that#i guess which was my concern for 5 star being a summer album rather than a For Us album#but honestly with this intro vid im actually feeling more confident about how homey it feels? like they're playing on home turf with this#album if they know it might not go down well with some fans. they know exactly the risk they're taking and they can do it because its an#album for them and for the fans#longwinded much.........................#<3

Song Tag & 10 Songs on your playlist right now!!
@pose4photoml tagged me and it's been awhile since I've done this so thanks for tagging me
Rules: 🎶✨when u get this u have to put 10 songs u actually listen to, publish. then, send this ask/tag some of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) 🎶
Rules: you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to. put your playlist on shuffle and list the first ten songs, and then tag some people. no skipping!
So I don't really have a specific playlist I've been listening to lately because I've just been listening to one song on repeat so I'm just doing my liked songs on Spotify which could mean literally anything pops up.
1- Around The Clock - The Rocket Summer
2- LOST BOY - Troye Sivan
3- Slow Motion - "About Youth" Ending Song
4- Uh Huh - Forever The Sickest Kids
5- Rainbow - Kacey Musgraves
6- Zi-Zi's Journey - Lindsey Sterling
7- Same Old Same Old - The Civil Wars
8- Flesh and Bone - The Killers
9- Brave Shine - Aimer
10- Kiss You Slow - Andy Grammer
Not tagging anyone, but if you want to do it, consider yourself tagged!

TBM’s weakest album for me musically is Superstition (not bad just an experiment that didn’t quite work), their weakest album thematically is Fascination (closest thing to a theme is a generic love story from initial enchantment to disillusion), their weakest album overall is Under Your Spell (second-weakest in both categories). It’ll be interesting to see if the next album can compete with Diamonds for biggest comeback
#diamonds was sooooo tight and lacquer-solid. hit after hit of duality in the songs#Alice allusions (a classic)/mirrors. past and future. parallel worlds. girls and boys. ink black and pale blue#fascination—at first I straight up didn’t like it. did nothing for me. then I bought it this year and it has some really good songs!#who could have guessed!#stars and satellites/precious hearts/like fear like love and then the opener and closer all quite good.#and dreams of you is very nearly great. the lyrics are just undercooked for the best tune#annnnywayyyyyy they’re working on the next album and I hope to goodness it’s another diamonds becusss they’re on a bit of a weak streak#Kelsey rambles#I’m liking superstition more in retrospect but under your spell is just Not Good. it’s not a good album. I almost quit them cold turkey#and then of course diamonds released and I went out and bought their entire physical discography in response

SEVENTEEN reaction to you fangirling over another idol
S.Coups 🍒
At first, he tries to act like he doesn't care. He's the leader of SEVENTEEN, after all—he's confident! But the moment you excitedly gush about another idol's charisma, he pouts. "Oh? So you like him that much, huh?" he asks, arms crossed. When you tease him by saying the idol is so cool, he huffs and pulls you into a tight backhug. "I thought I was your favorite." For the rest of the day, he randomly flexes—whether it's showing off his rap skills, lifting heavy things, or casually leading the group like the charismatic leader he is—just to remind you who your bias should be.
Jeonghan 😇
You don't even have to look at him to feel the dramatic side-eye. "Wow, so all this time... I was just second place?" he sighs, leaning back against the couch with his arms spread like he's been betrayed. If you try to cuddle him, he leans away dramatically. "No, no, go tell your new favorite idol how much you love them." Later, you catch him watching clips of the idol, and when you ask why, he shrugs. "Just checking the competition." Expect him to tease you forever after this: "Should I dye my hair like him? Would that make you love me more?"
Joshua 🐰
At first, he just laughs and nods. "Yeah? He's talented, that's cool." But when you start going on and on about how amazing the idol is, Shua's smile flaters for just a second. You don't notice it until he randomly pick up his guitar later that night. He just so happens to start playing a song by the idol. "Oh, what a coincidence! I felt like learning it today," he says casually. But you notice the way he's looking at you, waiting for a reaction. You kiss his cheek and whisper, "You're still my number one, you know?" and boom, the biggest sunshine smile appears.
Jun 🐱
The moment you start fangirling, he immediately tries to one-up the idol. "Hah! That's nothing. Watch this!" And suddenly, he's performing an entire dance routine in the middle of the living room. If you compliment the idol's visuals, Jun runs a hand through his hair and smirks. "But I'm still the most handsome, right?" If you don't answer, he gasps automatically. "You hesitated! Betrayal!" Later, you catch him watching videos of the idol, muttering, "Hmph. He's okay, I guess."
Hoshi 🐯
Dramatic. That's the only way to describe it. "WHAT?!! I THOUGHT I WAS YOUR ONE AND ONLY??!" He literally falls to the floor and fake cries into his hands. If you keep talking about the idol, he'll suddenly jump up and start doing the most intense dance routine you've ever seen, just to prove he's better. Later, he sulks, poking your cheek. "You don't love me anymore..." When you assure him that he's still your ultimate bias, he hugs you tightly and grins. "That's right! Your heart only belongs to Horanghae!"
Wonwoo 🦊
He just... blinks at you. "Oh, really?" Acts completely unbothered at first, but later that night, you catch him subtly researching the idol. "I just wanted to see what's so great about them," he says, trying to sound casual. If you keep teasing him about being jealous, he deadpans: "I'm not jealous. I'm just... analyzing the competition." But the next day, he starts dressing a little differently, just a little bit closer to the idol's style. Coincidence? Maybe.
Woozi 🍚
He pauses, squints at you, and says nothing for a solid five seconds. "...Excuse me?" Act like he doesn't care, but a few hours later, he's suddenly in the studio, making a song 10x better than the idol's latest track. If you keep teasing him, he roasts the idol's entire discography. "That beat? Weak. Lyrics? Mid. Melody? Could be better." He won't outrgith admit he's jealous, but when you cuddle up to him and whisper, "I love you the most," he smiles to himself.
DK 🍕
Gasps. Loudly. Dramatically. "WHAAAAAT, BUT I'M YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN!" He acts like you just broke his heart. But five minutes later, he's back to smiling because he can't stay mad at you. Still, he starts randomly singing the idol's songs around the house. In a ridiculously dramatic way. "Oh, this song? Yeah, I could totally sing it beter. Should I cover it?" If you kiss his cheek and say, "You're the best singer in the world to me," he melts into a sunshine ball of happiness.
Mingyu 🐶
Insant pout mode activated. "Hmph, I thought I was the only handsome guy in your life." He purposely becomes extra clingy, wrapping his long arms around you and nuzzling into your neck. "You don't need another idol when you have me." Will literally try to distract you from fangirling by flexing his muscles or cooking your favorite meal. And if you giggle and call him cute? He pouts even more.
The8 🐸
Minghao glances at you with mild disappointment the moment you start gushing about another idol. "Tsk, tsk. Bad taste." He shakes his head dramatically before sipping his tea like an ancient philosopher. He acts completely unbothered, but later, you notice he's scrolling through photos of the idol. "Hmph. He's okay, I guess," he mutters. Then suddenly, he's dressed even more stylishly than usual, rocking a whole new outfit like he just stepped off a runway. "What? I just felt like changing things up," he says cooly. If you keep teasing him, he'll just smirk and casually backflip away. "Okay, but can they do this?" When you finally hug him and whisper, "You're still the coolest in my heart," he smirks. "I know."
Seungkwan 🍊
Gasps. Loudly. Dramatically. Hands over heart like you just shattered his soul. "EXCUSE ME?! I give you my heart and soul, and this is how you repay me?" He immediately starts roasting the idol. "What do you mean he's funny? I'm funnier. What do you mean he sings well? Have you heard my high notes??" If you try to explain, he turns away dramatically. "No, no. I understand. I was a fool to think I was special." For the rest of the week, he randomly reminds you: "Oh, you like him so much, why don't you go to his concert, huh?" But the second you grab his face and say, "Seungkwan, you are my one and only bias," he immediately melts and hugs you. "Okay, I forgive you. But just know, I'm the best."
Vernon 🐢
Blinks. "Oh... cool, cool." Tries so hard to act chill, but the next day, he suddenly starts rapping more or copying the idol's vibe. "Oh, they rap? Hm. Interesting. I also rap." You catch him watching clips of the idol, and when you call him out, he just shrugs. "Just... checking something."
Dino 🦖
Oh, it's on. "Pfft, I bet I can dance better than them." Immediately starts showing off his moves, even when it's completely unnecessary. Later, he crosses his arms and huffs. "I'm still the best maknae in your heart, right?" When you assure him he is, he grins. "Good! Because no one outshines Lee Chan!"

Everyone always critiques country for all the songs being misogynistic and about trucks and beer but lemme fucking tell you, that's not nearly as prevalent as you would think. No the real plague in country music is songs about relationship trouble. And I don't mean "I hate my wife" stuff I mean a solid 50% of this genre, no matter the gender, sexuality, or race of the person writing/singing the songs, is about heartbreak or messy relationships or getting back together after shit's gone south and one night stands and yes also abusive relationships ending in fire and explosions and murder and like. Yes, this is good, I am a messy bitch who loves drama, but please can some of y'all write about literally anything else??
Like I keep finding artists I really like because they can sing super well and I like the general vibe of their music but then it turns out 99.9% of their entire discography is about their shitty exes and I'm just sdlkfjlkdsjf PLEASE sing about ANYTHING else ffs.
[DNI Banner: THIS POST WAS MADE BY SOMEONE WHO LOVES COUNTRY MUSIC. COUNTRY HATERS WHO CLOWN ON THIS POST WILL BE SENT TO THE FUCKING SHADOW REALM!!]
#also ngl this is NOT a problem unique to country AT ALL#but it is very common in country#like I am in pain going through this one artist's music because it's all good from a singing and melody perspective#but EVERY SINGLE SONG IS ABOUT HER SHITTY BOYFRIENDS#and I just can't#go back to singing about being drunk please and thank you

PLAYLIST. @viv13drainbow I think if you like that song in particular you'd also really enjoy Summer Salt, Little Joy, and Babe Rainbow for chill beach-y rock (not included). Commentary below:
The Blue Album - The album to start all albums, the album that launched weezer to success. Many hail this as their best album (I love this album but respectfully disagree) but nonetheless it's an essential for weezer fans and alt rock fans as a whole. Plenty of people who know way more about music than I do have praised blue album at length, and it's a funny meme nowadays too. Of course say it ain't so is an all-time classic, a heart-wrenching look into Rivers's relationship with alcoholism and his parental figures. I dunno if anything on the blue album can be called a proper deep cut, but only in dreams is an overlooked gem, and probably my favorite outro in their whole discography. Hopeful but somber, that slow buildup a the end to the guitar solo. Suzanne is a nice B-side.
Pinkerton - the infamous Pinkerton. Their sophomore album. Their breakdown album. Although weezer's not exactly an emo band, this album is often credited to being influential to the genre as a whole. No two people have the same experience with love or breakups, and one of the beautiful things about art is that we can see an experience through anothers' eyes, but I don't think I can think of a more painfully relatable album than this one. The balancing act of portraying its sympathetically-unsympathetic protagonist as equal parts pathetic and lonely while also entitled and aggressive. Some of the vocals are so raw for a second you see the monster in the five foot six, nerdy, physically disabled, lead singer that he sees himself as. Hard for me to pick a favorite standalone song off this one; the good life is a funky jam that wouldn't be out of place next to wheatus or RCHP's tracks, but that's where all the funk ends. Why bother? is a driving, catchy song that starts to show the cracks of his depression, falling for you is full of emotion, and if you get your hands on the deluxe edition, tragic girl.
Green album - At its time of release, Pinkerton was not received well. Creating such a raw, personal piece of art is hard. It's like the artistic version of getting crazy drunk, pouring your heart out, feeling catharsis for a moment, then realizing you'll have to deal with it all the next day. A lot of people interpret island in the sun as a happy song, but to me it's the tylenol after that night of drinking, a lie to tell yourself just to get through the day. It has a peaceful rhythm and brings to mind a tropical paradise, but there's something undeniably melancholy beneath the sunshine and smiles. You've tried to face your pain and you barely escaped alive, maybe you're better off just ignoring it. (That being said, although the damage has been done, Pinkerton has later been reevaluated and is now as widely praised as the Blue Album amongst music critics, and Rivers himself has made peace with that phase in his life.)
Maladroit - Overall this album is rather overlooked. It leans a bit more heavily into the rock aspect compared to green album, yet the lyrics remain impersonal and goofy. It's still not a bad album, though doesn't reach the heights of the first two. The singles, Dope Nose & Keep Fishing are both solid, but Burndt Jamb is my personal favorite. A little beach-y, probably their Stroke-y est song, (the band, not the medical emergency), it's been a mainstay on several of my chill out playlists for years now.
Make Believe - Probably one of their most hated albums by fans. It has the infamously shallow and poppy beverly hills, but you know what? I'm a Make Believe Defender. I truly think it could've been a great album, maybe even on par with Pinkerton. Not because of the album itself, but the demos. Haunt you Everyday is solid on the final product but rips at my heartstrings in this demo, ditto for tell me what you did (different name on the final product), everybody wants a chance to be alone (I said burndt jamb was their strokiest song but I think it might actually be this one) purple flowers (lyrics are a little rough but the melody, the meloncholy... so good) Actually on that note, weezer has, like, multiple album's worth of unreleased content that's miles better than anything on a published album (Link for one of my favorite fan compilations). Yes, the lyrics sound like something I wrote in my diary after a breakup, but that makes them all the more real. A deep dive into weezer will reveal the terrifying truth we've all been blind to: weezer never got bad.
Red Album - Mixed feelings on this one. It was produced by Rick Rubin, industry titan and famous for bringing bands "back from the dead," he's produced more than one of my all time favorite albums. Red is not one of them unfortunately. It has its fans though. Pork and Beans is fun.
Raditude, Hurley, Death to False Metal - Skipping these bc I don't care abt them
Everything will be alright in the end - To fans, this was their first "good" album since Maladroit, maybe since Pinkerton (12 years prior!) depending on who you ask. Although it wasn't as commercially successful as some others, it's a very strong album. Really, what is it about rock bands forgetting they're rock bands then suddenly returning to releasing rock music and magically being good again?? I'm looking @ you too, fall out boy. I have a hard time picking a really standout song- it's one of those albums that's evenly good throughout, no skips, but no obvious standouts either. Da Vinci is fun.
White Album - A fantastic album. You can hear some pretty heavy beach boys influence in this one. Unlike EWBAITE it has a few skips for me, but the highs are very high. Speaking of high. Do you wanna get high has to be my favorite off this one, Endless Bummer could be a sequel to island in the sun, Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori is just good clean weezy fun.
Pacific Daydream - I'm a Pacific Daydream defender. Check out QB blitz. Weekend Woman is flawed, but fun too, the bridge really makes it for me. Very evocative of Good Vibrations by the beach boys.
Teal Album - Oh god a cover album. No Scrubs is probably the only one really worth checking out if nothing else to hear a geeky white guy say "A scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly" like he's reading it out of a dictionary. (TLC, who wrote and performed the original song, allegedly got a kick out of it)
Black Album & Van Weezer - I don't care about these either. Damnit I thought we were gonna be good again!
Ok Human - A good album!! What a relief. Could you imagine how embarrassing it would be to name yourself as a homage such a groundbreaking radiohead album and have it be.... bad??? I particularly love this one because in some ways it feels like it's his most personal album since Pinkerton- only instead of being an honest dialogue from a horribly lonely and isolated 20 year old student, it's a much more well adjusted, happily married, 50 year old father who is subject to both optimism and ennui. And it rocks! In a soft, subdued way. The songs flow into each other so nicely, the first three in the album debatably are my favorite 3-song-run in their discog. Aloo Gobi and Grapes of Wrath especially. The transition from dark and somber Dead Roses to light and upbeat Here Comes the Rain never gets old to me. This album (alongside MGMT's little dark age and The Stroke's The New Abnormal) was also like my essential Coronavirus holy trinity.
Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter - This is a compilation of 4 EP's, one of each released during their respective seasons in 2022. I think it's solid all around, with Summer being the strongest. Records and Blue Like Jazz are both very catchy, Thank you and Goodnight... just wait for the outro, trust me.

i’ve been meaning to listen to the mountain goats but idk where to start what do you recommend?? <3
ooh this is a good question! You really can jump in anywhere, but here are a few of my favorites/sort of where I started listening! A lot of their most famous/popular songs are on those albums, as are some of the most common characters!
The Sunset Tree (2005) - focuses on John Darnielle’s childhood, particularly his relationship with his abusive stepfather.
Tallahassee (2002) - tells the story of “the Alpha couple” (recurring characters in much of the discography) moving to a house in Florida that mirrors their crumbling marriage and how they kinda hate each other but also refuse to part ways.
Transcendental Youth (2012) - not quite as conceptual as the previous two, but loosely focuses on a group of people living in Washington state and has themes of feeling outcast and struggling in society.
However, one of the most predominant characters/arcs is that of Jenny, a character who is sort of larger than life and both famous and infamous. She makes appearances in multiple albums, but most notably in All Hail West Texas (2002, one of my personal favorites especially having lived in West Texas for several years) and Jenny from Thebes (2023 - another one of my personal favorites of their albums).
There is a TON of tmg music both on spotify and on soundcloud and in youtube records of that one time they played that one song live and never again, so it can definitely be daunting to start! Any of these five can be a pretty good place though, since they’ll give you a solid intro to tmg’s sound and musical style, plus the narratives and characters make the albums fairly easy to follow.
#also fun fact i am wearing a tmg shirt while writing this. i am a parody of myself#anyway hope this helps!!! it is so fun to have an artist i can always find something new i havent heard#and knowing your favorite song might still be out there is so cool#the mountain goats

So, I've noticed Death or Glory seems to be a pretty divisive album, but in my opinion, I think it's actually a pretty solid addition to Palaye's discography. People seem to think it's a wide stretch from their older stuff but I don't really fully agree with that. To me, it has many trademarks of their classic sounds, themes, and aesthetics--while simultaneously playing with new sounds and tapping into different genres. In a lot of ways it sort of harkens back to the playfulness and cheekiness of their earlier stuff while still staying in tune with the candid and intense emotions that has also often been present in a lot of their music.
It's an interesting album imo because it is very different, it leans more into the glitz and glamor (at least in a slightly new way tonally) and is maybe in some ways a bit more simplistic than their other albums. At the same time it's also very unique, especially in terms of what Palaye have done before. I think it brings out old classic sounds of theirs in a way that allows different sides of their music and sound to shine.

Assigning ATEEZ an alternative band (Maknae line)
A/N: Part two!! I’m glad people enjoyed the hyung line. Some of these were a little harder to decide, but in the end it’s just an opinion hehe. Enjoy!!
CW for mentions of mental health and such
Choi San: My Chemical Romance
★ This was the first one I actually thought of
★ And it’s mostly because of San’s versatility
★ If you know anything about My Chem, you know how varied their discography is. They have songs that range from a hardcore punk sound to Britpop, and even a little polka
★ And that reminds me of San. I mean, look at him. He adapts so well to everything that ATEEZ tries and isn’t afraid to go out and try new things for himself
★ Also, San’s reputation precedes him, I fear. I’ve seen a lot of people say that he looks intimidating, even though Atinys know he’s a softie
★ Same with MCR. Back in the day, their image with the dark makeup, bulletproof vests, etc made a lot of people quite wary of them, but then they promoted their more emotional music which got people hooked
★ Cover Demolition Lovers and my life is yours, Sannie

Song Mingi: Three Days Grace
★ Now this…Honestly, this is purely based off of vibes
★ Like this just makes sense to me?? I’m referring to their first run with Adam Gontier, specifically to their album One X
★ They have a lot of songs about mental health (which put them on the scene as a band), and Mingi is quite outspoken about being kind to yourself and dealing with mental health
★ As someone with severe anxiety, I get comfort from both Mingi and TDG
★ I think it was the picture of Mingi holding that bass that made this opinion so solid for me…I immediately thought of Animal I Have Become
★ I almost said Fall Out Boy, but I think TDG really suits our boy here

Jung Wooyoung: The Pretty Reckless
★ Hard decision tbh, there are a lot of bands that remind me of our sweet sagittarius
★ But in the end, I had to go with The Pretty Reckless
★ Firstly, aesthetics. I’ve noticed that Wooyoung has been into darker clothing as of late, and religious motifs. Definitely reminds me of Taylor Momsen circa 2015-2016
★ A lot of people send all sorts of criticism their way, whether it be for Taylor’s voice or what, but they never pay it any mind and keep doing what they love
★ Just like Wooyoung! He never lets other’s opinions of him stop him from doing what he loves. His mom says she’ll kill him if he gets more tattoos? Sorry, Mama Jung! Your son cannot be stopped, I fear
★ Also, there’s a sort of feeling I get from the both of them. Wooyoung is fiercely loyal and loving to his family, and TPR reminds me of that as well. Remember when he said that he’d bite anyone who was rude to Seonghwa? Brother is there until the end
★ The song 25 reminds me of him. I can’t really explain why, but it does :]

Choi Jongho: Paramore
★ This was so obvious to me
★ Let’s get it out of the way: Vocals. If Jongho and Hayley Williams ever collaborated I would simply die
★ Imagine Jongho covering All I Wanted or Decode. I would shit myself tbh
★ No but anyway
★ I feel like people used to underestimate Paramore because they were young when they started, especially because they have a female singer
★ But instead of caving under pressure, they made a name for themselves and worked for everything they’ve gotten in the past two decades
★ Just like our boy!! If I remember correctly, I believe he’s said that he had to put in a ton of work to get to the place where he is now because he wasn’t a naturally gifted singer, and i’m sure he was under a ton of pressure as the maknae
★ Both artists are absolutely untouchable in skill and I adore them endlessly hehe

aespa concert review
this was my second time seeing aespa live - now in the mexico city stop of the synk parallel line world tour and i had a blast!!
the good: the venue had great seating and you could see the stage comfortably from every angle as far as i could see. i bought mid tier tickets and didn't expect to have them as close as i did tbh! also, the visuals were amazing as always. there was a lot of hype with minimal filler/slow songs and the crowd was amazing. aespa themselves said we were the wildest crowd they have seen this whole tour as it tends to be with mexican audiences <3 the energy really was up to a hundred the whole night. i also loved the setlist for the most part - from opening with drama to giving us whiplash next level and armageddon in a row i feel like we didn't miss any big song (except girls for me bc i'm the number one girls stan and will always be lmao)
the bad: the costume and stage design was cheap and lazy as fuck. their outfits this whole tour have been disappointing - the past tour at least had some standout costumes and you can tell most of these are recycled. cause tell me why they have to sing mine in shein ass dresses? also there were no props, big effects or anything to up the design of the tour. SM is cheap and this was definitely underwhelming - in a way this tour just feels like the encore for hyperline as there is nothing to separate it visually from their first tour. aespa need to stop touring for at least a year after this and come back with a completely different tour when they do
the ugly: mexico city altitude is no joke and it's a wide known fact that touring artists almost always struggle with that when they come here. i was actually worried winter might struggle with it and she did look a little out of breath towards the end but thankfully no incidents happened. this was actually mentioned by giselle at some point and it does seem like that made them unable to fully sing during some sections. their solos specially were a little disappointing - except for ningning everyone else lipsynced. i actually enjoyed the songs where they used handheld mics and you could hear their live vocals better: die trying, flights not feelings, hold on tight and live my life were great because of that.
overall i would go as far as to say their first concert in mexico was better. maybe it was me because i was way more excited about seeing them for the first time, but the energy, songs and performances from hyperline simply stood out more to me. this parallel line concert was still good and i had an amazing time - mostly because of all the insane hits they have released since then and that we could finally hear live. listening to drama, supernova, armageddon and whiplash live really cemented for me how solid and iconic their discography has gotten in just a couple of years.
but the tour itself is just not up to the level of group they have become since, and i think the members themselves can also use a break after having two whole world tours in less than two years. either way... this was still a great night, they practically sold out the venue whereas the first time they came there were definitely more empty seats. you can see how much they've grown both in terms of popularity and as performers. i loved seeing them again and i can't wait to see them again when the time is right!

More Than Just A Hybrid Theory: The Genius Of Linkin Park
Linkin Park just released their highly anticipated comeback album, From Zero, and it’s an important album for a variety of reasons. It’s their first album in seven years, as well as their first with new singer Emily Armstrong, because former singer Chester Bennington passed away seven and a half years ago. It seemed like they would never come back, but a couple of months ago, they randomly announced their return. Fans were mixed on the announcement, and fans have been relatively mixed on From Zero, but I, for one, absolutely love it. I recently put out a review of this album with my buddy Jake, where we break down the record, both for its place in the rock scene today, as well as its place in the Linkin Park canon. In summary, From Zero isn’t their best album, but it’s their shortest and most concise album that shows they have a place in rock and metal during the 2020s.
With its huge and catchy hooks, biting rap verses from Mike Shinoda and piercing screams from Emily Armstrong, and solid musicianship, you can hear bits and pieces of every era of the band. Yes, even their last album, 2017’s One More Light, where they turned into a pop band, at least with their penchant for shimmery hooks this time around. If anything, From Zero is a Linkin Park album that shows Linkin Park can make a Linkin Park album again. My personal relationship with this band has been rocky at best and vitriolic at worst, depending on the album that we’re talking about.
I’ve gone back to their discography over the last couple weeks, and I’ve still got some issues with their discography, but I’ve come to really “get” this band. I don’t know what it was, but I think it took this album to really get there. I hate to say that, because Chester passing away was a very sad moment for many people, but From Zero is the album that made me realize how cool this band really is, warts and all. Despite their discography being all over the place, I can respect how diverse and unique their body of work truly is. I’ve always come back to their first two albums, regardless, and that’s what I wanted to talk about today.
Both 2000’s Hybrid Theory and 2003’s Meteora are classic nu-metal albums, but I always enjoyed them in an ironic way, because they’re albums that are dated in a really fun way. They’re the kind of albums that are so dated, they’re oddly timeless. That’s been my relationship with them for the longest time, and I only really enjoyed their first two albums, but I’ve recently re-examined my relationship with these two albums, especially since From Zero coming out and going back to their discography as a whole. These first two albums are most peoples’ favorites, but there’s a good reason for that.
Rap-rock and nu-metal weren’t new ideas when Hybrid Theory was released in 2000, but they perfected it. The album, while short, does have a bit of a formula, but that formula works. Meteora improves that formula just a bit, too, by making for a more melodic and catchier album, versus being heavy and intense. I look at both albums as being the yin and yang of each other; Hybrid Theory is heavy and aggressive, but Meteora is catchy and melodic. Ultimately, what one album lacks is what the other album makes up for, so it’s hard to decide which one I like more. It just depends on the day, but these records are important.
From what it seems like, a lot of people were introduced to heavier music through these albums, and Linkin Park is a gateway band for many folks. I always enjoyed them as a novelty, more than anything, but the more I go back to these two albums, they aren’t a novelty. They’re cheesy at times, and they feel of their time, but that is their charm. They still hold up as really catchy, well-written, and aggressive nu-metal albums, and the big singles on those albums are still songs that people remember. That should tell you a lot, honestly. I’ve got mixed feelings on the rest of their work, From Zero notwithstanding, but I truly do enjoy them now and I’m willing to give their music a proper deep dive. I need to listen to a lot of stuff more to really let it sink in, but their first two albums are truly classics.

Hii Kyotag how Is your day/night going?
Here to ask you about your top 5 artists and songs this year yay!
Hiiiii Lazu I'm good!!! Thank you for the ask 💞💞💞
Top 5 artists:
1. Neru I just adore Neru! Neru my beloved. I know they haven't been very active recently, but that doesn't mean I've been listening to their songs any less. Their music feels so raw and genuine, like they woul never sugarcoat the cruelty of reality. Their dark lyrics are very cathartic, and I feel like they always leave open space to be okay despite, you know? And I love the rock aspect of their music! This was also the year I found out Neru has been suffering severe problems to their health, and their Twitter messages really touched me, I hope they get better soon, I wish them all the best! Their music really touches me and helps me get through the day :)
2. PinocchioP PinocchioP my beloved! Really love the unique way they tune Miku, you can immediately recognize their tuning. And their music is great! Been listening to their META album this year. God-ish is lots of fun, but I especially love Common World Domination, it's the kind of song that whenever it comes around in shuffle I have to relisten ten times before being able to move on (≧▽≦)
3. Iroha Well, they've made my favourite song ever Meltdown, so they can't not make it to the list, you know. Rin is far from being my favourite voicebank (despite probably being my favourite Vocaloid character), but I love how Iroha tunes their voicebank. Moon is another great song with wonderful tuning.
4. Ryo I feel like I've listened to them a little less than the past years, but still incredibly solid music. From Melt to Odds&Ends, banger after banger after banger, there's not a single song of their discography I don't like.
5. Cö shu Nie Well, to be fair I don't listen about them *that* much (in all honesty, I've just been going through the same 1229 songs long vocaloid playlist in the last six months or so), but they've been my favourite band in the past years, so I feel like they deserve to be mentioned. I love their t/pn and p/p endings with everything I've got. Lamp is another morning alarm I have and, now that I think about it, the background music on this blog's desktop theme, too.
Top 5 songs: (I already did top 5 songs I've listened to this year, so let's see just current top 5 songs overall)
1. Meltdown by Iroha ft. Kagamine Rin Remember when someone asked my favourite song was and I spent 2k words talking about this song? Lol. Still first place. Found out a nice Rose cover this year, and got a bit more acquainted with the Divela remix (the cosMo Hard-R.K.mix is still my favourite tho).
2. Melt by Ryo ft. Hatsune Miku This song is just <3 Makes me happy. Life is beautiful. It's so spontaneous and cute! I love this Meiko cover too.
3. Bitter Choco Decoration by syudou ft. Hatsune Miku Append (Soft) Hhhhhhhh this song is so good. The eerie vibes are addicting. Seriously threatening to climb higher.
3. Patchwork Staccato by Toa ft. Hatsune Miku Append (Soft) Tied with Bitter Choco. I love this song so much it's so melancholic... I love me a song that is a little cruel. I really like the sewing synbolism and unrequited love themes, reminds me of Akutagawa. Super nice music and interesting instrumentals. Miku appends are fun to play with!
5. I can't pick............ There's so much more vocaloid music I could talk about......... Let's say a symbolic How To World Domination by Neru ft. Kagamine Rin Append (Power), Kagamine Len Append (Power) that goes to represent Neru's whole discography. But please don't forget Tokyo Teddy Bear (and specifically the live edition from this Project Diva collection) and Lost One's Weeping and Abstract Nonsense (again, just go listen to their World Domination album).
Ask me about music?
#Overyapper fr#Thank yuo for the ask Lazu <333 I hope you've been doing good!!!!#people asks me stuff

what i listened to in october 2024!

total albums: 9 top 3 favs: chromakopia (tyler, the creator), lp2 (secret band), no place (a lot like birds) click read more for full reviews :3
VII Magia Infinita (2024) - Zeta (2024)
Fav song: III Sufrir - 2024
This album is short, at 30 minutes long with 7 tracks. But I’ve listened to albums with twice as long of a tracklist that were shorter in length, so for once I’m not bothered by how long this album is. It’s a beautiful post-rock album that does a great job combining the Afro-Caribbean sound into the music. The tracks switch between being full instrumental songs and having some vocals, although the vocals tend to let the instruments take center stage. This might be the first album that I saw performed live before listening to it on my own. During the last song, the entire band played different percussion parts, along with Hail the Sun’s drummer. It’s one of the most unique things I’ve ever seen and made me appreciate very heavily the instrumentation on that song, and this album overall. I’m very excited for Zeta’s upcoming album and hope very desperately I’ll be able to catch them live next year.
Rating: 7/10
LP2 - Secret Band (2019)
Fav song: Black Dolphin
This album might be the closest thing to metal that I listen to and really enjoy. This album sounds like I’m in a grungy edgy video game that’s inspired by Doom but meant to be realistic. Thank you to the members of Dgd for creating this side project because it expands on some of my favorite aspects of that band. Matt’s heavy “machine gun” drums and Jon’s crazy screaming that sounds like he’s gonna throw up are two things I wish I got more of in Dgd so this is perfect for me. All the songs sound really similar so if you enjoy this type of music, this is a great album for you to listen to. I do think there’s enough variety and special moments in each song to make them stand out and make this an enjoyable album for me personally. Overall, I really like this album and I think it’s a fantastic hardcore addition to my music library.
Rating: 8/10
New Hell - Greet Death (2019)
Fav song: Crush
This album is so crazy for me front to back. The beginning song is so intense in a melancholic way and it just stays that emotional the entire time. It feels so reflective and like just stewing in these feelings of longing and sadness that I’m pretty familiar with. The atmosphere doesn't let up, feeling almost like I’m suffocating on stuffy air. I can almost hear the wind rustling through the leaves.
Rating: 7/10
MG Ultra - Machine Girl (2024)
Fav song: Sick!!
This album is a lot of the same from Machine Girl. Which is great because I love their music! It doesn't feel particularly inventive or like they're trying too many new things. That could be a bad thing for some people but honestly I don't mind at all. This album doesn't blow my mind as much as some of their previous albums, which does kinda bring it down for me. But I feel like this is a solid entry in their discography with some songs that could become personal favorites with further listening. I will say I do like the vibe this album has, like grimy futuristic industrial, and how it stays in that zone pretty much the entire time. Overall, I do think it’s a solid album, although it didn’t wow me.
Rating: 6/10
Acceptance Speech - Dance Gavin Dance (2013)
Fav song: Demo Team
This album is insane for opening with Jesus H. Macy. It’s truly a song that feels like they’re hitting you over the head while simultaneously getting you comfortable with hearing the familiar vocals from Jon, then giving way to Tilian’s singing. This was his first album with the band, and it feels like he came in with something to prove. This album feels like the band building upon what they did on the previous albums, especially Dbm II, but bringing a new polish that makes everything sound grander than it has previously. Every song feels determined, like they’ve come back with a vengeance. Which makes sense when you consider that they thought Dbm II would be their last album before breaking up. Back to the songs themselves, Acceptance Speech has become one of my favorite title tracks that I’ve discovered this year. I really love when a title track matches the overall vibe of the album it’s on, and Acceptance Speech delivers. It carries the exact tone of determination, vengeance, and having something to prove that I’ve already mentioned. I also have to highlight Turn Off the Lights, I’m Watching Back To The Future as a really interesting closer. It carries such a specific energy that is rarely found throughout the album. Overall, this album gives me a similar overwhelming feeling that Conversation Piece gave me, but in a less chaotic way. I quite enjoy it, even if Tilian is my least favorite of all the clean vocalists they’ve had.
Rating: 7/10
How It Feels To Be Something On - Sunny Day Real Estate (1998)
Fav song: How It Feels To Be Something On
This album's atmosphere is so intriguing to me. It feels warm like a radiator. Definitely reminds me of sitting in the basement during late fall. Overall, I really like the music on this album. It has a groove to it that makes it very enjoyable. The vocals are also kinda unique compared to what I usually listen to in a way that draws me in. I will say that all the songs stay in this very similar sound which makes them blend together a bit for me. So while this album didn’t blow me away, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Rating: 7/10
Audible to Animals - Marigold (2005)
Fav song: Into Acceptance
This album is kinda in it’s own space. There’s moments where it reminds me of other bands, mainly Circa Survive. But overall, kinda unique in a way I really appreciate. I love Vadim’s vocals and how light and airy they are while not sounding very high pitched. Feels almost like he's talking in a melodic way. The music is also a little theatrical which can be hit or miss for me, and this time it's a hit. I like the choice to have two fully instrumental tracks sprinkled into the album. It creates a very specific vibe that also makes this album flow nicely. It almost feels like there's a story being told and I really like that.
Rating: 7/10
No Place - A Lot Like Birds (2013)
Fav song: Next to Ungodliness
This album gave me the same sort of overwhelming feeling Conversation Piece gave me on the first listen. It feels more frantic than Conversation Piece, making me feel like I’m panicking over some impending doom. Overall this album builds upon the sound laid out in Conversation Piece, making an effort to experiment a bit more with the structure of the album as well as the individual songs.
Rating: 8/10
Chromakopia - Tyler, the Creator (2024)
Fav song: Rah Tah Tah
This album was a surprise addition to the list of Tyler albums I needed to listen to this year, and I think the fact I went through his discog for the first time this year helped me appreciate this album so much more. It’s such a clear product of Tyler’s continued growth and maturation throughout his musical career. This album feels more artistic and intimate than Call Me If You Get Lost, with a lot of care taken towards every element. It explores a lot more personal topics about Tyler’s life, with each song tackling a different specific topic. The music reflects this also, with a lot of elements taken from traditional African music showing up and mixing with the typical hip-hop sound Tyler has cultivated. The way this album flows is perfect to me, I genuinely have nothing negative to say about it. Spending time listening to this album and really getting familiar with it has made it become my favorite Tyler album, edging out Igor which has held that spot since I started listening to Tyler back in 2019.
Rating: 9/10

Fairport Convention - Harlow Town Hall, Essex, England, June 15, 1974
Back in the summer of '74 ... Fotheringport Confusion! This new-to-me audience tape (pretty nice quality really) doesn't give us the complete show, but it's a very solid half-hour of the eternally reconfiguring Fairport Convention, with a semi-drunken audience of punters raving it up (one dude in particular seems to be losing his mind). The lineup at this point: Sandy Denny, Trevor Lucas, Jerry Donahue and of course, the three Daves — Pegg, Swarbrick and Mattacks. These are the Daves I know.
"It was ironic, really," Sandy said. "One of my main reasons for leaving Fairport in the first place was that I had wanted to spend more time with Trevor. Then he was asked to join Fairport. So I ended up back in the band for exactly the same reason I had left it."
She sounds good back in the band — it's cool to hear mid-70s Sandy confront late 60s Sandy on the opening "Matty Groves," adding a somewhat freer, jazzier momentum to the tune. And "It'll Take A Long Time" is predictably gorgeous, despite the previously mentioned sodden scouser hollering along at the outset. Much of the recording is taken up by a long "Sloth," however; weirdly, the highlight of that one is Pegg's bonkers bass solo in the middle. Dave!
Oh and hey — you know that my infamous brother is over on the Dollar Bin with the Sandy Saturdays series (often not published on Saturday!). Deep dives into the Denny discography!!!!.
