I know I'm a week late but I do think people are misunderstanding the point of the Anthony Bourdain quote about Kissinger
The point was never "Anthony Bourdain has good politics and is an unproblematic fave," the point is that even someone with mainstream liberalish politics who goes to Cambodia for a food tour - a, let's be honest, very bougie type of trip to be part of your job - and has a basic understanding of history and a bare minimum of human decency can come away from that bougie food tour wanting to murder Henry Kissinger with their bare hands. The point is that Henry Kissinger fucked up this country so bad the only reason he wasn't lynched decades ago is because it's on the opposite side of the world and the people who were in proximity to him never really saw what it was. The point is that if we could see firsthand what our First World politics do to the Third World we would understand that monsters walk among us and it's a cultural failing that we let them die at home at 100 years old surrounded by their friends and family.

Actually Batman shouldn't kill. The reason he doesn't kill is because he believes wholeheartedly in the good in humanity and the sacred value of all life. His belief in rehabilitation and second chances is meant to put him in contrast with the corruption in Gotham, both with regard to the corrupt justice system/police force and the criminals, who all take lives with no regard for its value. Being surrounded by such fatal violence and corruption on a systemic level and even being affected by it on a personal level, and yet finding the strength to not only rise beyond it, but to fight for a way to fix and save the very cause of such unfathomable pain is what defines the character of Batman. Batman is about protecting the innocent and fighting against injustice so that what happened to him never happens to anyone else. Batman is about breaking the cycle of killing and rising beyond it to become a beacon of hope for a better future. Batman killing and taking justice into his own hands is literally the antithesis to his character. If your Batman kills, then he is not Batman.

Bruce, age 22, in his mafia take down era: Lol, this shits easy. Why can’t the GCPD do this. Ive even got time to kill, I wonder what Harvey’s doing.
Bruce, age 35: Yeah scarecrow tested his new fear toxin out on a maternity wing, firefly is going on an arson spree, Joker is holding a school hostage- no Jason, that’s not “it,” sit down.

Damian: What is it that you want Grayson? I am in the middle of sharpening my many blades.
Dick: I assure you this is much more important! I’m about to teach you a new technique.
Damian: My interest is piqued. Continue.
Dick: I know you want to deny it Dami, but you my friend are an adorable little guy.
Damian: [raises knife]
Dick: Before you throw anything hear me out! You can use it to your advantage! I’ve been doing it for years and it still works on Bruce sometimes even though I’m like 20 something. I can teach you my ways! You can be my successor!
Damian: … fine I will try this only once to humor you Grayson.
Later in the day
Damian: Are you sure about this? Father may think my mind has been taken over.
Dick, sending Damian into the room: it will work I promise! go make me proud!
Damian: Baba? I was wondering if you wanted to go sword shopping with me? It could be fun.
Bruce: …are you feeling alright?
Damian: I’m fine, I just thought that I should drop the formalities for once.
Bruce: …o-okay let’s go, is there any sword you want in particular?
Damian: yes actually, and can we get hot chocolate after?
Bruce holding back tears: mhm.

I'm so tired of hearing that Phoenix saved Miles without hearing about any of its implications.
Because Phoenix's savior complex is a major problem not a solution. Because Wrightworth is not about Phoenix saving Miles, it's about them saving each other. Because in Farewell My Turnabout, Miles Edgeworth said "We aren't some sort of heroes. We're only human." and he was right.
