I am always amazed...
I am always amazed at how blacks and black Americans have suffered the same tragedies as any other group... including holocaust--yet no one seemingly pays attention; until it happens to them.
And, what I think you'll find is; when you repent, and start treating black people right-- and others, your life will get better. #theLeastOfThese

Why I'm Here.
A while back I started my own business, The Grinning Possum. And out of all the questions I could be asked about said business, the one I get more often than not is "but why the possum?" To tell the truth I don't really have a solid answer. It's just one of those names that stuck in my head and I couldn't let it go. I knew I wanted that to be the name of my brand. It NEEDED to be.
It hasn't been until now, several months later, that I've finally realized why that name was so special to me. People don't ask about the possum because they wanna know it's significance to me, they ask because they don't understand why I'd pick such an ugly creature to be the face of my business. That skin deep value that gets placed on everyone and everything drives me insane, always has. Maybe that's why I appreciate possums the way I do, because I can look past the not-so-cute-and-cuddley exterior and see what a vital role they play in our ecosystem.
Call it a blessing, call it a curse, call it whatever you want. But for as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to see the good in everybody and everything. And that's what I'm doing here. On tumblr. With this blog, of all things. I want to shine a light on all of the people and creatures and places and things that get passed over because of superficial things that don't matter - like the way they look. I want to show that even what you see as an absolutely lost cause still has value. And I want to remind you all that we should be kind, not just to like kinds, but to ALL KINDS.

The Least of These
Matthew 22:36-40
36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
----
You might perceive certain passages of scripture to be ambiguous or unclear. But God made it perfectly clear and resolute that the greatest two commandments are:  Love Him with all of your heart, soul, and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself. When he says neighbor, he is referring to all people - not just your pals, fellow Christians, the like-minded, or people who are easy to love - but everyone.
In our time, people are divided in so many ways. We tend to surround ourselves with people who share our views and, en masse, passionately cling to ideas that are in direct opposition to anyone who thinks in opposing or incongruous ways. And there is a real misconception among white Americans that we are somehow greater, that our lives are of more value, than the lives of our neighbors of other races, religions, or nations. In truth, God loves everyone. He doesn’t love white Americans any more than he loves a Syrian refugee or an asylum-seeker at the southern U.S. border. We are all equal in the eyes of God.
---
Galatians 3:28
28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
---
The furor that some Christians feel over immigration from other nations baffles me. First, we are all descendants of immigrants. And before you assert that our ancestors emigrated from Europe legally, following some set of immigration requirements, you’re wrong. During the first 100 years of our country’s history, anyone and everyone from anywhere was permitted to emigrate to the U.S. There were no restrictions. If an immigrant wished to vote or hold elective office, he had to undergo a naturalization process and become a citizen. But to be here, to build a family, find work, own land, ... these freedoms were afforded to everyone.
In the latter 1800′s, with the rise of the Eugenics movement, our leaders sought to end the open immigration policies of our Founding Fathers. Eugenics aimed to improve the genetic quality of our population by banning certain genetic groups thought to be less desirable, and promoting genetic groups thought to be superior. Hitler was a supporter of Eugenics. This train of thought, you will recall, is in direct opposition to God’s edict to love our neighbors as ourselves. It also contradicts the Biblical truth that all men/women are equal in the eyes of God.
With the rise of the internet and social media, it is increasingly easy to see how our fellow Americans, self-proclaimed Christians, and elected politicians think -  what they believe. The internet pages and Facebook posts of news outlets offer a telling glimpse into the mindset of those who engage via comment. I have personally seen droves of Americans, fellow New-Yorkers, and local acquaintances, post hate-filled, divisive statements that echo the disturbing sentiments behind Eugenics.
So many of us are opposed to immigration at our southern border. There are lies afoot regarding the vast criminality of these prospective immigrants. A quick look at statistics proves that these contentions are baseless. Why are people so ready to believe malicious lies about foreign asylum-seekers? Is their fear based solely on the race(s) of the refugees? If so, how far have we come as a nation? And are we truly, as most of us were taught, a CHRISTIAN nation? How would Christ have us treat those outcast from their homeland - the hungry, the stranger, the sick, the least of our brothers and sisters, the alleged criminals at our door?
---
Matthew 25:34-40
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
---
Mexican, Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, Syrian, and Libyan refugees ARE OF EQUAL VALUE IN THE EYES OF THE LORD to British, French, German, Japanese, and Australian refugees. All are our neighbors, whom we are commanded to love as we love ourselves. And the Lord has made clear that those who help our neighbors will receive eternal life, while those who turn our brothers and sisters away, will be cursed with eternal punishment.
If we call ourselves Christians - Bible-believing followers of Christ - how can we ignore the greatest two commandments? And how can we behave in opposition to the way Christ warned us to treat “the least of these”?
I have no answers.

A picture of vulnerability This little girl captured my attention the instant I arrived in her community. I stepped out of the van to find her crouching along the outside wall of the care point. She looked unwell, but was assured she wasn't in need of a clinic visit. Two days later, as I sat with three lively children eating their breakfast in the care point, she just stood in the doorway and watched us. She wouldn't join us and unfortunately, I didn't pull myself away from the other kiddos to reach out to her. But she continued to tug on my heart so I had to dig into this little girl and her story. I learned that Marguerite* was born with a cognitive delay, which her mother also has. She is ostracized at home and not given any attention or love. When she first started coming to the care point she couldn't even speak. But now, after spending time with the care workers, she now is beginning to talk. Marguerite will continue to break my heart as she seems so alone, but I am so thankful that she has 20+ care workers who see her daily and make sure she is well. I am thankful that even though she may feel ostracized at home, she feels safe to come to the care point each day to receive the love of Jesus.

This is a style I have been developing based from a Pablo Picasso quote, 'it took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.' This is my interpretation of St. Michael the Archangel. I used childrenens Crayans, a number 2. pencil and a bic ball point pen. #becomelikeachild#theleastofthese#stmichael#contemporaryart https://www.instagram.com/p/BtBgnr4lQI-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=kkzmazi74715

An example of America's shitty health care system. This is the bill for the ambulance ride to take my grandmother to the hospital a couple of week's ago. The $158 is the cost of the oxygen they gave her. The $148 is the mileage. We live 3.7 miles from the hospital. If she didn't have Kaiser through Medicare this is what we'd have to pay out of pocket JUST FOR THE RIDE. The 4 days she spent in the hospital trying not to die, plus her ongoing aftercare would cost us probably 100 grand. At least. This is immoral. There should never have to be a choice between financial ruin and DEATH. #universalhealthcare NOW. #maga ? #america was never great. #theleastofthese #wwjd #prolife ? Nah. 😒😷💊💉💵🏥🚑⚠🇺🇸🚷
