【Prologue】
The afternoon sunlight streams in through the bay window, illuminating the tiny specs of dust floating in the air.
I stand in front of the oak bookcase, hefting my feet up to look at the photo album on the base.
MC: Mm… this one is the thickest, so let’s choose from here first.
Recently, Victor’s Aunt Grace sent several photo albums in which are stored some photos from the early years.
It turned out to be a timely arrival just when I was thinking about enriching the photo wall, and these “times” frozen in frames from the olden days have become my first choice.
–
[Tidbits]: The photo wall reference is from their “Assimilating the Light Date,” where MC put up a photo wall at their home with supreme efforts~ 🥺💖
–
Most of the photos in the album are landscapes, and only occasionally does the owner of the photo album appears with an unsmiling expression.
However, when I turn to one of the pages, my fingertips can’t help but pause.
The photo is set against a backdrop of serene bluish-green waves and unfolding lush tree branches, with the scenery revealing a gentle elegance and beauty in its tranquility.
In the center of the scene, a Victor of younger facial features sits in a small boat, with ducklings and deers parading in the water behind him.
MC: Why does the landscape in the photo seem a little familiar…?
MC: [calling out to him] Victor––
—
I pick up the photo album and head to the study to look for Victor. He looks up from his work when he sees me, nodding.
Victor: What is it?
I turn the album over for him to see and point to two pages.
MC: This place seems so familiar to me, but I can’t remember. Do you remember where these photos were taken?
Victor: It’s a scenic spot on the outskirts of Loveland City. Aomori Water Forest.
Victor answers with just one look.
Victor: I went on a trip to Aomori Park when I was in college, and these photos were taken by my classmates.
MC: Case solved! No wonder I felt it was familiar. I’ve been here too!
MC: Moreover, I also went there when I was in college!
Aomori Park is not a popular tourist attraction. Who could’ve thought that we both actually visited the place at the same stage of our lives before we got to know each other?
At the thought of this inadvertent destiny that brought us together, my heart feels light as a feather to its core.
A thought suddenly comes to me as I gaze at the Aomori Park in the photo album. Thereupon, I hold out a hand to Victor, making an invitation with burning eyes.
MC: Victor, since we’ve been to the same place at different times…
MC: So now, how about we renew this special destiny and go to Aomori Park for the weekend?
Hearing my exaggerated wording, an imperceptible smile lifts the corners of Victor’s eyes.
Victor: I have to attend a confined environmental summit this weekend.
The picture of the short trip I constructed in my mind just now disappears instantly, and I let out a low sigh.
MC: I see… how long will you be gone for this time?
Victor: More than ten days, less than half a month.
Victor draws out a wet towel and wipes away the fine dust staining my hands from sorting out the photos, the corners of his lips slightly lifted.
Victor: However, the location of the summit happens to be in Aomori Park. Once the conference is over, we can advance with your “proposal.”
The corners of my lips can’t help but rise wildly as I hug the photo album, lowering my head and nuzzling against his shoulder.
Victor’s eyebrows slacken slightly. With an imperceptible smile, he reaches out and unfurls my fingers, squeezing them gently.
Victor: This happy?
MC: Of course! This is a special “nostalgic trip”~
—
To-Do List (for Victor, from MC):
1. Pay attention to combining the work and rest balance.
2. Carry my special insect-repellent scented sachet with you.
3. Take some nice photos in passing.
4. Find a delicious venison restaurant.
5. Draw up a brief itinerary of a few days to have fun on our wetland tour.
—
MC: This being the case, we cannot do without the “love note.” CEO Victor, you must remember to complete it this time too!

【Day 1】
Victor has set off early in the morning to leave Loveland City. When I wake up, a familiar aroma from the dining room transmits to me.
The sausages, grilled to a golden brown, and the eggs, fried on one side until half cooked, are softly laid out on a plate decorated with fresh vegetables.
The familiarity of the plating, the exquisite pairing of the food, as well as the delicacy that blooms on my taste buds, makes me curl up the corners of my lips.
MC: [to herself] Time was clearly very pressing when he left early in the morning. When exactly did he make breakfast for me?
After breakfast, I go into the kitchen and find the to-do list he has left me posted next to the dishwasher.
–
To-Do List (from Victor, to MC):
1. Take Pudding for a bath and deworming.
2. Enrich the photo wall to your liking.
3. Go to the record store and pick out a few records you like.
4. Go to the movie premiere for me.
5. On the day the conference ends, meet me at Aomori Park.
—
[MC’s Journal Entry]
While eating, I found that the temperature of the food on my plate was just right. I wonder if he estimated the time between when I would wake up and finish eating breakfast. The breakfast was delicious. The only thing missing was the person eating together with me across the table.

"...and it isn't as if I don't enjoy going to the holosuites with Garak. He knows that I value our time together. I just don't understand it. It isn't as if he cares a wit for historical Earth battles, anyway, and I am sorry for it, but I just don't want to act out scenes from The Neverending Bloody Self-Flaggelation in the Name of the State..."
Miles was listening. He was. He was nodding and maintaining eye contact like a good friend, but it was never easy when Julian got like this.
Fact was, Julian had two needs that it was absolutely critical to keep fulfilled, and those were: getting drunk and acting the ass, and being an absolute arrogant intellectual nit about something or other. He liked to run his mouth and Miles was more than happy to cede the honor of listening to it to Garak.
But, sometimes, Garak would get busy, or Miles would get stuck with Julian on a mission that took just a little too long, or the two of them would have an actual fight and stop speaking for a while. Now was one of the latter times, and it was Garak's damned fault. For a Cardie, he could be a right princess sometimes, and Miles was cursing him because now he was stuck having to listen to all of the excess energy and madness that was usually saved up for lunch.
"He actually said that I preferred your company over his," Julian was saying, and Miles had to hide his snort in his ale. "It doesn't make any sense! I mean, I suppose... I do prefer our own excursions on a regular night, but that's only because holosuites with Garak always tend to get a bit... intense. You know."
That tripped Miles up for a second. "Intense?" Oh. "You mean because he's Cardassian?"
Julian had the nerve to roll his eyes at him. Nit. The man huffed, as if his meaning were obvious, and waved his hand impatiently. "No! You know, man! Garak. With the--the big blue eyes, and the pronounced scales, and the damn..." He made a truly incomprehensible motion with both hands, miming a shape in the air.
What. Miles had to blink and set his glass down. "Julian."
He was looking agitated, nearly jumping out of his skin. "His chest, man! His ass! Surely you've noticed!"
No! God no! "No, I have not noticed!"
"Well, I don't know how you've managed it! With the way he goes out of his way to announce them! The man's a tailor, for God's sake, he knows how he's dressing himself and then he has the nerve--Yes! I will admit it, Miles, we have a much better time in the suites, you and I, and it's because of this." He stabbed his finger down into the table with a force that made their drinks jump. "With Garak, there's this added layer to the whole thing with those blasted costumes and the pretty smiles and the constant arguing and... It's just a little much for a game I play to relax in the evenings! Wouldn't you say?"
Miles was going to kill Garak for doing this to him. In knocking back the last few gulps of his pint, he managed to find the fortitude to say, "Aye, Julian, I'd say."
Julian sighed with the relief of solidarity and fell back in his seat.
