I think the way harper's trauma is depicted in s1 is really raw and beautiful. this show gives everyone the space to be messy and her spiraling after her bodily autonomy was taken away is very realistic and imo good to see. that being said I need girlie to get some therapy and form a healthier relationship with sex asap.

ppl hate dusty too much. like yeah he undeniably was in the wrong for his part in starting the rumor about mrs obah and amerie. but imo he's put in more effort to altering his behavior (as seen by him being a safe person for darren to go to) than ant or spider and both of them were involved too and I don't see ppl at their throats like they are for dusty.

I live for chaos and drama so the malakai-amerie-rowan triangle was soooooo fun (altho I wish there hadn't been the extra drama with the rowan being "bird psycho". just stick to the love triangle messiness. also do not get me started on rowan threatening malakai WHAT WAS THAT why did the writers do that 😑 anyway I want rowan back in s3 and making amends w the ppl who were collateral damage in his revenge quest against amerie)

also re the love triangle mess, it seems like the writers are intending for amerie/malakai endgame and I do like them but I feel like the show did gloss over amerie's repeated boundary violations (which honestly was also a problem with her dynamic w harper in s1 too, like girl you have to let people come to you instead of badgering them into talking to you and trying to force them to confess things). like everyone repeatedly told her to give malakai space as he was processing that he was bi and she just kept hovering and trying to force him to open up. like.... girlie please he just needed some time to figure out his feelings.

sometimes the show wants to treat the women as #girlbosses when they actually do things that are really fucked. like I don't hate harper, but the speech she gave to embarrass dusty at the basketball game was really gross and the narrative treats it as epic and her standing up for herself when she and dusty took advantage of malakai not being sober and the fact that he was in a bad headspace after just being attacked by that cop. also the writers act like dusty deserved this just bc harper thought he was acting weird after the threesome like...... is he not allowed some time to process his feelings about a new experience??? like..... how did the narrative treat this as a #girlpower moment what the hell

the demonization of mental illness is pretty uncomfortable. we only really see the symptoms of harper's dad (and presumably rowan) when they are actively being a danger to people. like mental health issues that cause ppl to see delusions doesn't equal that person being violent but the show kind of ties their anger/violence to their mental illnesses... which is another reason as to why I hope rowan sticks around for s3. let's see more of him being soft while still acknowledging these symptoms.

"Finally, I see the sun," Vince groaned, causing Leo to roll his eyes.

"It's been literally ten days, you drama queen," he said, removing his baseball cap and pushing his hair back, away from his sweaty forehead, then planting the cap back down, this time facing back.

"Ten days of captivity," Vince said, dramatically rubbing his good hand over his face, "is good to be out of jail."

"I'd like to think my food is a little better than jail's," Leo scoffed, turning around and walking backwards towards the field, "are you sure you wanna stay and watch? Doesn't sound very fun to me."

"I was going stir crazy in that apartment," Vince winced as the limping pulled on his wounded side. He was definitely dosed up on painkillers, but there was still a dull throbbing on his side that the drugs couldn't chase, made worse by all the hopping around, "even sitting and watching you guys play is better fun than watching another episode Rachel's bad romantic decisions."

Leo grinned, turning around so he could run ahead and join the remaining guys on the field and Vince took his time limping towards the bleachers. His shirt was covered in sweat by the time he sat down.

He didn't know all the players. Leo, yes, Spencer and Mikey from the team too. The other people he didn't know, it seemed they were an weird rag tag team of people's various acquaintances. By the way Leo waved to some of them, he guessed they were colleagues from the law firm.

It didn't matter, Vince was just overjoyed to be out of the fancy apartment and smelling freshly cut grass, with the sun shining down on him. He had not been made to sit around, there was too much energy running through him during all hours of the day and the worst part of this whole accident had been no longer being able to hit the gym or the field or, hell, he'd even take Wendy's hot yoga classes at this point.

"Hey!" Luke's voice startled Vince and he turned on the hot stone bleachers in order to see him. Luke jogged closer, "good to see you out of bed."

"You have no idea," Vin nodded, studying his best friend, "you good? Bella said the bug was brutal."

"Yeah, I'm fine," Luke had a huge smile on, much like Vince he hated lying about, although he looked a little paler than normal and his voice was scratchy, "wish us luck."

"Make them cry, captain" Vince teased, raising both thumbs up, his left one cradled in his chest since his arm was still resting on the sling.

Lucas tipped his baseball cap in a cowboy-esque way, "you got it, man."

They were playing baseball and Vince didn't much care for it. It was much too american for him, aside from football he had always been more fond of soccer, something he had in common with Jonah. In fact, Jon had proved to be a bit of a soccer addict, Vince had found in the past week living with him and Leo. He knew all the leagues, yelled at the TV and got sullen when his team lost. It was quite amusing to Vin that, for once, he wasn't the one with the blood pressure skyrocketing through the roof.

He leaned back lazily, barely paying attention to the game, enjoying the warmth. Now that he was sitting down for a bit, the ribs' aching had quieted down.

For the next two hours he watched his friends sprint across the field, shouting at each other, ignoring the yelling from the opposite team. Vince blamed it on the drugs and the sun scorching down, but he was feeling sleepy in no time. He cursed at it, it was such a bummer that everyone else was right and he needed to rest, when all he did was rest now.

"Time!" he heard Lucas say, voice booming. He had that characteristic about him, where he could speak loudly and be heard by everyone without looking like he was screaming.

The group dispersed and Luke jogged back to where Vince was sitting, Leo close behind him.

"Are we winning, son?" Vince teased, causing Lucas to chuckle and shove his knee.

"Didn't make 'em cry, yet, but we're winning," he said, competitiveness rolling off of him. He glanced past his shoulder and frowned, "why are you pouting?"

Vince looked away from Luke, to Leo, and raised his eyebrows. As Lucas said, the blonde had a big frown on and he was squinting at the grass. He angrily rubbed at his forehead, "I don't... I don't feel so good."

"Shit, LU-" Vince shouted, using his good hand to shove Lucas' arm, who leaped forward just in time to catch Leo as his knees gave up.

"What the fuck?!" Luke squealed, his voice breaking. He grabbed Leo by the armpits, manhandling him to sit on the edge of the bleacher's step, "Leo? Leo, c'mon, open your eyes-"

"Not fainting," Leo slurred, pushing Lucas' frantic hands away from his face, "nauseous."

Vince grimaced as he scooted closer, having to prop all his body weight on his right arm in order to lower himself to the step under his, where Leo was sitting. He grabbed Leo's shoulder and then moved his hand up to his neck and cheeks. Despite the fact his cheeks were blazing red and his hair still damp with sweat, his cheeks were dry and his skin felt cold, "oh kid," Vince sighed, "I think you got heatstroke."

Lucas, still looking nervous, cupped Leo's face too, hunching on himself to look him in the face, "aww, why didn't you say anything?" he asked.

Vince watched as Leo's throat bobbed dangerously and he glanced at Luke, "I think you better move..."

He barely had time to say this and Leo was folding in half, vomit jetting out of his mouth and covering the grass under them. Lucas jumped out of the way just in time, but not quick enough to avoid getting the tip of his sneakers covered in orange sick.

"Shit, Leo..." Vince sighed, holding on the back of his friend's muscle shirt, "okay, get it up, you'll feel better in a bit... Luke, can you drive us back...?" Vince voice trailed off as he realized that Lucas had a hand holding Leo's shoulder, but the other one was firmly pressed to his mouth, eyes shut, face pale, "uh... Luke?"

"Sorry-" he said in a muffle manner, then let go of Leo and staggered away from them, bracing against his knees and retching.

Leo groaned, almost falling off since Luke had let go of his arm and Vince squeezed his shirt a little tighter, "don't worry about him, he's fine..." he said, while Leo coughed up another round of brown liquid, "you're fine, right?!" Vince said a little louder and Luke raised a hand, thumb up, while still gagging mercilessly.

Leo spat, then leaned back and almost fell, his head meeting Vince's wounded shoulder and causing him to bite down a scream. He breathed through the pain, as the poor man groaned and leaned his head against his bicep.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry, I just-"

"It's okay, you can't help it," Vince said, voice strained, "we're going home, just- Here," he winced, reaching back to where he had been sitting and grabbing a water bottle, "take some sips."

"Won't stay down-" Leo groaned, taking the lukewarm bottle and then looking up as Lucas' heaved again, this time managing to bring up a pathetic amount of puke, "is he okay?"

"He's fine," Vince said, rolling his eyes, "drink your water."

Ahead of them Lucas straightened up, belching deeply into his fist and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, walking back to them, "sorry..."

"Since when you get sympathy sick?" Vince asked, while Leo took the smallest sip of water, gagging around the bottle's finish.

"I guess I'm not feeling a hundred percent still," Lucas' cheeks turned pink and he rubbed at his chest, "I'm better now, don't worry."

"Not worried," Vince lied, while Leo let out a moan again, hugging his stomach.

"This is awful, I feel really dizzy..."

"You just need to lie down in a cool place, get some electrolytes in you," Vin rubbed his nape, then glanced at Lucas, "can you drive?"

"Yeah, of course," the brunette nodded, although Vince wasn't feeling very reassured by how milky white Lucas looked. Sadly, there was no other option.

"C'mere," Lucas said, carefully side stepping the puddle on the ground and looping an arm around Leo's waist, "lean on me."

"I'm sorry I made you sick..."

"That was on me," Luke waved him off and Vince gestured for them to go ahead, since getting himself out of the bleachers was a struggle on its own.

By the time he reached them, Leo was sitting inside Luke's car, with the a/c blasting, while Luke was leaning outside of it, an arm wrapped around his stomach.

"I'm fine," Luke said preemptively, "I should've listened to Bell," he let out a sick burp, spat on the gravel and kicked the little rocks to cover up the mess, "really, stop looking at me like that."

"I'm just worried," Vince shrugged, or tried to, only to hiss as it pulled on his shoulder and ribs, "I can call Wendy if you can't drive. She's got the day off..."

'I can drive," Luke shook his head, "I just overdid it with all the running around and the mess..." he gagged fruitlessly against his hand, "I'm good."

"Clearly," Vince agreed sarcastically, then limped to the backseat.

Leo was slumped on the passenger seat, head leaning back, taking some deep, measured breaths.

"Hey, kid," Vin reached in and squeezed his arm, "just hang in there, this is going to pass soon."

Leo nodded, but he still looked dangerously pale, lips pressed in one thin line.

The drive was uneventful, Vince glancing nervously from Leo to Lucas and wondering how their evening had downgraded so quickly. Just as they got close, Leo suddenly hiccupped, slapping a hand over his mouth as a burp slipped out and with the other one he pushed Lucas' thigh "pull over-" his voice was muffled, punctuated by another belch at the end and Luke cringed, turning on the sign and pulling to the side of the road.

At least it was an uneventful Saturday, so the street was almost empty. Leo pushed the door, but didn't even have time to get out. He stuck his head out and coughed up another stream, letting out a whimper.

"Aw, kiddo..." Vince sighed, shoving himself in the space between the driver's seat and passenger one, so he could grab the back of Leo's pants and keep him sitting down. Lucas was no help, despite the guilty expression he had on, he had pressed his forehead to the steering wheel and was gulping nervously.

"It hurts..." Leo groaned, coughing and panting, "my head hurts so much."

"I know, I'm sorry," Vince said unhelpfully, rubbing his back, "get it up, Leo..."

He heard another pitiful whine and then more hurling, followed by a sigh, "I think... I think I'm done."

Or empty, Vince thought, keeping his hand on Leo's back. He glanced at Lucas and cringed. His friend's face was firmly in the gray territory, jaw clenched.

"Take a deep breath, I bet the carsickness isn't helping your situation," Vince said, squeezing Leo's bicep and fighting the anxiety inside of him. He hated not being able to help. He should be the one driving.

"I'm good," Leo slammed the door shut, "I just wanna get home."

"Just a couple minutes," Luke mumbled, his voice all thick and weird, "sorry, I-"

"It's okay, Luke," Leo said tiredly, "Jon gets sympathy sick too, I get it..." he rubbed at his forehead, "just drive, please?"

Once they finally arrived, without another incident, Vince almost groaned as he realized now there was twice as much walking around to be done. He sucked it up, carefully stepping out of the car and offering his good arm for Leo.

"Lean on me, kid," then to Lucas, who was just stepping out of the car, "no. You're not coming in, you're going straight home. Shooo."

"How do you intent on looking after him...?" Luke frowned, despite the pained lines on his face, "Vin, I can-"

"I'm fine," Leo groaned and while Vince could feel his grip was a little too tight for someone who was fine, he knew Lucas wasn't going to be any help, "go home, Luke. I'll text you later."

"...Promise?" Lucas glanced between the two of them, torn between wanting to help and feeling too sick.

"Yeah, we're fine," Vince nodded, ignoring the throbbing on his side, "go home. C'mon, Leo..."

The blonde waved one last goodbye to Luke, then slumped against Vince. Vin could tell he was trying to be mindful not to rest his full body weight on him, but he was doing a poor job of it. He bit down a groan, wrapping his good arm around Leo's waist and resting his back against the inside of the elevator.

"Shitty day," he groaned, causing the blonde to let out a tired chuckle.

"That seems to be a pattern lately," he mumbled, face pressed to Vince's bicep, "it's not as bad as it was out there."

"Good, you just need to rest a bit," Vin reassured him, breathing deeply through his mouth as pain spread all the way up his shoulder. They all but stumbled inside the house and Leo headed straight for the couch, while Vince braced against the desk near the front door and took deep, measured breaths.

"Vin? Are you okay?"

"Yeah," he lied, wiping the sweat from his upper lip, "probably just due my meds... Sit down and turn up the A/C, I'm gonna get you some water."

He didn't dare walking all the way to the bathroom to grab a washcloth. Instead Vince filled up Leo's gym bottle with cold water and then wet a dishcloth, deciding he'd rather face Jon's judgment than to walk all that distance. He limped back to the couch and met Leo's worried gaze, "I'm fine," Vince said, handing him the bottle and sitting down too, "here, lie down."

"You don't look very fine," Leo grumbled, but he was too lethargic to do anything about it. He took a gulp of the cold water and let out a relieved sigh when he rested his head on Vin's lap and the cold dishcloth met his forehead, "this feels much better."

"Uhm," Vince smiled, moving on the couch so he could put his feet up the coffee table. His sprained left foot was killing him, "c'mere, kid."

Easy like that, all the times he had done this to his own sisters came rushing back and he found himself playing with Leo's hair, combing the blonde strands and scratching at the scalp, "you're due a haircut," Vince mumbled, eyes slipping closed as he felt Leo relax against him.

"Jon says longer is hotter," he said quietly, "I've always wanted this, you know?"

"...What?" Vince frowned, opening his eyes and glancing down. Leo seemed almost asleep, the stress taking it's toll on him, "Leo?"

"Family," Leo sighed, cuddling closer and moving the wet cloth to cover his eyes, "it's almost weird to have it."

"Oh..." Vince's heart dropped and he squeezed the blonde's shoulder, fighting a smile, "well... Get used to it, Leo. This is your life now."

Sorry I’m sort of late to the wedding impossible discussion, but some of your posts inspired me to watch it. I just finished episode 3 where it ends with jihan telling ahjeong he’s going to steal her away and….am I supposed to like jihan? Because I don’t, at all. He thinks dohan and ahjeong are in a real relationship right now doesn’t he? He thinks they’re actually getting married bc they want to? Did I miss something where he knows it’s fake? Am I supposed to root for him to destroy his brother’s relationship and life so that dohan can inherit a company and jihan can profit? I recognize I’m early into the show but how are people calling dohan selfish when every single thing jihan has done for the past 3 episodes has been for his own gain? The only redeeming thing he’s done is recognize he was wrong for getting ahjeong that role, but then he kind of messed that up for me by being violent to that worker on the drama. Because sure that guy was an asshole but so are you jihan!!! Ji Han definitely feels like a selfish asshole for the vast majority of the show and, yes, he has some trauma that explains some of his actions but dear lord is he an asshole to Do Han.

From pressuring him to get married and take over the company which Do Han obviously doesn't want and is clear that he doesn't want to trying to seduce the woman he thinks his brother loves to just generally harassing Ah Jeong every chance he gets.

But he's the male lead, so a lot of people are going to just decide that he's Right. No matter what. Apparently.

Or they just assume that being in the closet automatically makes Do Han selfish because that's lying and we can't lie! Nope! No lying here! If you lie to protect yourself, that makes you selfish. /s

Do Han was protecting himself and we get to see that he has a reason to do so when his grandfather literally stops him from coming out! There was a reason Do Han stayed in the closet and ran to New York. I still don't understand why his grandfather wants him to inherit the business. He's a gay artist who's been aboard being a gay artist for five years!!! Why should he be any good at business?!

(I saw someone complain that Do Han never let Ji Han visit him in New York and it's like... no fucking duh? Man was living his best gay life out there, he was no about to invite the little brother he was in the closet to into that life both to protect himself and not to force Ji Han to carry his secret as well.)

But, yeah, Ji Han's an ass. And the show tries to redeem him but not for what he did to Do Han until much, much too late for me. And Do Han deserves better.

anyway i cannot believe there are some people out there who are saying that sungho's a bad guy and think that he's just stringing junsung along when all along sungho has kept his heart open towards all of junsung's affections and moves on him and has reciprocated his feelings towards junsung back way more than once and has been in a state of constant distress and confusion for the last 2 episodes and is sorting out what he is feeling vs what reality is presenting to him and even in all of that he has remained so so kind and calm and measured and never once made junsung feel like he has no chance with him but instead he cherishes this bond and connection that he has with him, genuinely cherishes every little thing junsung has given him or done for him, lets him tie his wrist with a ribbon so that they're "binded". sungho's such a sweet and simple guy that didn't ask for this mess of a situation to happen and yet he's trying to navigate it in the best way possible and feels so guilty about hurting junsung and/or seunwoo but he also knows he has to decide and in and amongst that he's just gone and heard seunwoo say "oh today (the drama of today) has been fun!" and "oh there's a guy who's been calling me since day 1 and i need to go out on a date with him and give him a chance and if that means i miss out on sungho then so be it," .... he has to deal with THAT too, on top of all of seunwoo's other antics that have really started to rub off on him in the wrong way (poor boy literally had a nosebleed bc he was so stressed!!!), but never treating junsung as his "second safe option", bc he has never done that!

in my mind, honestly speaking, i dont think sungho has ever really deeply connected to seunwoo at all, in anyway, like he has with junsung. which is why junsung says "this has never really been a love triangle at all". junsung knows it, i know it. seunwoo may seem like a rival on the face of it, and id say sungho is attracted to seunwoo's aura, but beyond that? nope. theres just nothing there and there never has been. and its taken a WHILE for sungho to realise and ~compare~ (even tho he HATES doing it bc it makes him feel selfish) the two very different kinda bonds he has with seunwoo and junsung, and which one goes deeper than which, and in which one he finds peace and comfort and enjoyment and everything he is looking for in.

but that doesnt make sungho a bad guy. in ep 6 and 7 he saw seunwoo in a way he hasnt before and hes learning to deal with that and is realising that "no, i dont like this. i dont like what this is making me feel and i wanna make some distance away from him," and realising after spending the whole day with junsung "i wanted to get away from all this drama bc of how distressed and upset and negative this all made me feel and so did he and in that we both just gravitated once again towards one another and came out of it by the end of the day feeling so much better and lighter and happier and closer."

A/N I literally am having issues with some internet friends right now. Unlike many of my scenarios in my life I turn into fics, I didn't have to deal with this alone. After our last final (yay!!!) me and my friend met up and she talked me to. A lot of Steven's lines are what she said to me, in a more Steven way. I won't go into details, just a few things I think a lot of people can relate too. Anyway, here you go. Not event agging anyone bc this is literally just for me to vent out my feelings.

Warnings: toxic friendships, manipulation (not sure if that's clear here but just incase), brief mentions of anger issues and I wouldn't call it relationship problems, but normal couple stuff the system had to work through together. References to a friend who says concerning stuff, you can take this to mean threats of harming one self, comments about excessive drinking or drug use, or any other harmful behavior. Point is, said person is known to say and do things, and uses it to manipulate reader.

"Love, are you alright?" Steven watched you watching Community from the other side of the couch, instead of your usual spot next to him.

You scoff, a little meaner than you mean. "No, Steven, I'm not" You said, voice dripping with sarcasm.

Steven simply waits, trusting you'll realize you were being rude. And you did. You sigh, turning to him. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. That was unnecessary. There was no need for me to be sarcastic." Steven and Jake had been working with you and Marc about regulating your high emotions. They allowed you grace when you went too far, as long as you recognize when you were being mean. As you requested, they didn’t let you or Marc get away with being rude, and the two of you tried to ask for space when you needed time to calm down and the others were coming on too strong.What had started as mediation between you and Marc, who both were prone to anger outbursts, had turned into general work that you and Marc, Jake and Steven had to put into for the sake of everyone's relationships. It was working out well, and the four of you were finding the way to manage things together, as a team.

"Can you tell me what you are feeling right now?" Steven asked, ever patient.

Of course, you knew the next part, naming your emotions. "I'm feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and maybe a little unseen."

His brow furrowed at that. "Unseen by who? Us? I mean, me?"Steven’s work involved not trying to speak for the others, unless asked to.

You shake your head, smiling a bit. There had been a time where maybe you had felt like Steven didn't see you, didn't get you, that only Marc in his anger and Jake in his chaos were the only ones who ever got how you felt, but as you worked through the bumps with Steven, you came to realize that he didn't have to know exactly what you were feeling or had been through to see you. "No baby, with my friends. Between finals and the recent... I don't know if I can even call it drama, I just feel like a lot is going on right now." You last final was tomorrow, and Jake had convinced you to put the books down and take a mental break. The best cook in the house, he made you diner, you ate with Marc, and now were winding down with Steven, hoping a good night's sleep would benefit you more than staying up all night studying.

Steven nodded. "You hadn't mentioned anything was going on with your friends, love, can you tell me what's going on"

"Yeah" You pause a bit. "Can I lay on your lap, Steven? I'm tired"

Steven's warm smile reached his brown eyes "Of course, sweetheart" He reached out for you and you lay down on his perfectly thick thigh as he plays with your head.

"It's Jenna. She's saying that stuff again. A lot of us have reached out to her, but she won't really reply. She'll make these concerning posts for days and not talk to us." You had your phone to Steven to read the things she's said. You've known Jenna for years, but recently as a friend she hasn't been the best, but whenever you try to distance yourself from her, she'll start making these threats, concerning you, drawing you back in.

Steven handed you your phone bad, looking upset. "That's a lot, I see why you're worried. And no one can get a hold of her?"

You shake your head. "But she'll post other stuff on snap chat where she's fine. I don't know what to do anymore. She does this so much and I'm exhausted. She won't accept my help, and I know, I knooooow it's not that easy but I don't know what else to"

Steven leaned over and kissed your head "I know you want to help, you always do, but she's an adult, she has to make her own choices."

"I know, I just feel responsible. She keeps calling me her best fiend so everyone keeps looking to me for answers with her but I just don't know. I don't want to be friends anymore but everyone sees her as this precious, perfect person and can do no wrong, but she's mean, Steven. And I know I can be mean but-"

Steven gently shushed you. "You don't try to be mean, you always apologize, and you always try to do better. I remember her making fun of your phone background, even after you tried to change the subject"

You had interests that some people considered niche, like a damn near obsession with James Dean, who you changed to your phone background to. When Jenna had seen it, she relentlessly teased you for days every time your screen lit up, until you changed it back to you and Jake.

"Yeah... and she said I have a giant forhead. Which is technically true, but she didn't have to say it." you agreed, exhausted from this week.

Steven continued playing with your hair. "I know it's hard, because I know you want so badly for everyone to like you, but it's just not realistic. She might just need to get mad and stop talking to you"

"What if she turns my other friends against me?"

"Well, then maybe they weren't that good of friends in the first place"

"Steven-"

He raised his hands in mock defeat. "I know! I know, I know it's easier said than done, but just do what you can to separate yourself, and me and the boys will be here to help you in whatever way we can, alright love?"

You nod against the skin of his leg, feeling the hair tickle your face. "Okay, I'll try, thank you Steven" You kissed his kneecap.

Steven pulled a blanket over you, and you feel sleep pulling you in as the Community paintball episode opened "And for what it's worth, love, we think it's very hard not to like you."

"even when I'm being a bitch?" You mumble, already half alseep from exhaustion.

"Even when you're having a bad day" Steven clarifies, never wanting to feed into your negetive self-talk.

"I love you Steven"

"I love you too, darling. Go to sleep, I already set an alarm, I'll take you to bed in a bit"

Whatever you said next was incomprehensible as you fell into the first goodnights sleep you'd had since thanksgiving break.

hi anon! i'm supposed to be off touching grass this weekend but i am hungry for this yet to be delivered doordash meal + i love greekverse asks.

greekverse started bc @kalonkakons and i both cast timothy olyphant as our faves: theirs being menelaus, mine being ponyboy curtis. we'd already been friends for awhile and the illiad and the house of atreus itself is more their bag than mine and at some point we were going "you know. our blorbos should get along. they would have fun."

then we realized what we'd done casting wise and after awhile one of us said, late at night sleepover style, "...what if they were brothers."

there's been a trend of "the curtises had an affair child" in fandom i was never super fond of cause usually it meant an OFC coming attached with it and most were of varying quality at the time. however apparently, my brain lights the fuck up if you suggest that ponyboy was the affair child. partly because it slots in so neatly in canon. ponyboy already has various issues around his identity in canon from his shifting eye color to him despairing because he doesn't seem to fit in with his brothers. both of whom are some shade of blonde whereas in the book ponyboy is described as being auburn haired. sort of a literal red headed affair child. it also slots in well with how we see ponyboy at the end of the novel and all teh hints he could be a horror protagonist. he has such a final boy quality about him that sticking him in the house atreus is correct!

once that took off, we basically built it together — i picked john cassavetes for atreus and @kalonkakons went "GENA ROWLANDS FOR JENNIFER!!". hippodamus is roughly close to ponyboy and works since atreus' mother is named the girl equivalent of hippodamia — something @kalonkakons figured out and made us go insane about. there are lots of bits and bobs and i love the family drama particularly since menelaus is basically the opposite of darry in terms of how he treats ponyboy while also doing a lot more than soda for ponyboy as well. atreus is a Clusterfuck of a Human while sincerely loving ponyboy even if it can be detrimental at times (i've likened atreus being the vader to ponyboy's luke skywalker) and i love pelops and hippodamia and pony's Best Friend, 🩷 helen 🩷

more i also enjoy pushing against some of the fluff fandom puts out. so much of it is really conforming to certain things i don't care for or i find overly saccharine and being able to challenge some of it in a fun away is fun for me — maybe ponyboy can't actually handle what happened and maybe there's a family out there waiting for him that he could fit into better. or the idea that there's another form of brotherhood for him out there that he could access.

best friends! but just a couple, max. he's a closed off person so if he did have any best friends that might have a better grasp of the inner workings of kim yubin, it's a limited number, and you've probably known him since he joined lgc (or longer—he's not a seoul native, but he was in town most summers). fair warning that he will be calling you his work wife/husband (it's a show of affection).

at the back of my mind, he is very loudly like "i would rather die than have feelings for someone" so naturally i feel inclined to write out a terrible ex plot. or a crush plot. or both. any breakup with him was probably messy and might be accompanied by some resentment (at least from his end), and any crush he could possibly have will be saddled with internal conflict. let's give it up for being unlovable!

no one's seen him cry except maybe a close friend or his sisters but you happen to catch him at the worst possible time and he is now avoiding you like his life depends on it. even if it means hiding behind a potted plant the second he sees you down the hall.

someone go on a perilous hike with him where you end up terribly lost and start to think you may have to spend the last moments of your life in each other's company so you might as well dish out all of your regrets and dashed hopes, right? it's not like you're just meters away from the path you were supposed to be on, right? good thing neither of you are drama queens, right???

if you would like to entertain the idea of having an inconsequential crush on the most charmless guy alive, please do so because he'd be so so uncomfortable with the concept of it and it'd be funny.

familial connection — he joined lgc back in july 2021 with his cousin (female), and she is 100% the reason why he's here. he's all about tough love and being mister sass pants so no one figures out just how much he cares about them, but he would do just about anything for his family and he's especially close to her.

That’s what’s confusing also. Like, Sam and Colby literally do the same thing, are the same age (for the most part) live together, how can Colby still not be respected and Sam is? if you think about how snc portray themselves, or even explain how they see one another, sam is always labeled as the smart one. he's the one that answers the emails and does the business meetings and gets it all done in an orderly and intelligent fashion. he's the ceo/dad of the group in any scenario.

but colby, even tho he's also half of sam and colby enterprises llc, somehow doesn't get that nomenclature. he's known as the goofy one, the dumb one. the younger sibling just following along. sure, he's broody and intense and dark, but ppl still see him as an idiot, basically. he's the one that gets called out for shit that both snc do and take part of. ppl show their distain for colby far more often than sam. ppl forget about sam, yes. but they hate colby.

if anyone needs genuine, current proof, look no further than the SEG drama. before the interview with kristin, fans were pissed at BOTH guys for not saying something to seth. sure, colby also "agreed" with him, but even kristin doesn't hold that against him really. she was more pissed about the bear. but do you know what the comments on that video were saying? this is an exact comment: "At least she confirmed that Sam was innocent in all this. Which is what we were thinking and hoping. Sam is the reason I've liked Sam and Colby. This is heartbreaking but it's good to know that one of them is innocent."

and this is not the first time i've seen ppl say they only tolerate snc bc of sam.

i don't get why some ppl hate colby. i truly don't. he has made fuck ups in the past, yes. i'm fully aware of his history. but he apologizes and gets better, which is what you're supposed to want from someone that fucks up, assumingly. sam doesn't even apologize! he ignores when he gets called out for shit and just waits for it to go away. and in a way, that has benefitted him a lot. he gets away with a lot of shit bc he never explains himself. he doesn't give in to the ppl that want to knock him down a few. but colby, he's a ppl pleaser. he wants ppl to like him. he wants to be known as a good guy. so when ppl question that, he wants to get back into their good graces, and sometimes he indulges in these ppl's trolling without realizing it.

i honestly wonder if sometimes this all stems from the killing best friend prank. you know, the one that they were BOTH in on? but since sam was the one that cried his eyes out, i genuinely think some ppl have seen colby as the bad guy since. they can't let go of the 19 year old desperate to be known. which hey, i get that. but who was also in that video? the other desperate 19 year old named sam.

and again, i'm not saying that sam doesn't get hate. of course he does. but him being forgotten about or not being everyone's favorite is not the same as hate.

he gets to have privacy, he gets to have a love life in the shadows. he gets to sleep around and party and have fun and make dumb choices. but colby.... gets scrutinized. nitpicked apart day in and day out. and what's worse is he has told us the comments effect him. and ppl still go at it, even those that claim to love him.

i don't understand the full reason for it, but it's just reality.

manhunt: not even majel barrett could save this one. not only did deanna not take a stand against her mother like she did in the last lwaxana troi ep, she went back to acting as though she never had at all. so much for my favorite deanna moment ever. i'm sorry women

husband hunting bc of menopause bad. holodeck WORSE. combine them and i am in agony

the jokes about how ugly those stasis aliens were were also kind of unfunny. the twist about them being assassins and lwaxana knowing all along because she's psychic WOULD have been funny if 1. they hadn't established her telepathy was off and 2. she hadn't been so annoying this episode

the emissary: this one was ALMOST good. they got really close. i really liked the half-klingon woman when she was hanging out with deanna...they had genuine chemistry and they should have kissed about it. unfortunately all her scenes with worf were INSUFFERABLE

like, this woman DESPISES klingons. she doesn't say one thing about them that isn't completely derogatory the entire episode. she hates her own klingon half, she hates other klingons, why on EARTH was she 1. put in charge of this mission 2. made to work with WORF even after he asked picard to pick someone else?

like, worf literally spent the entire episode trying to do his job, and she kept bringing up their past drama so she could provoke him into fucking her

and then when he tries to """do the right thing""" by marrying her (WHICH MAKES NO SENSE WHEN COMPARED WITH PREVIOUS LORE...BUT WHATEVER...) she's like haha no silly that's what those silly backward awful KLINGONS do, but EYE am a way more evolved human

and then we don't examine that at all ever.

like, she could have been a fascinating character when foiled with worf - both of them are klingons who operate in a world of humans and feel isolated and othered as a result, but she HATES her klingon half and worf wants to connect more closely with his own klingon heritage. they could have been good for each other but instead she was super annoying and then just left.

i DID like the scene at the end though where worf got dressed in full klingon captain regalia and bluffed his way into captaincy of a klingon warship. GOOD for him. that was fun and sexy of him and for once i didn't mind them using the woman as eye candy.

THAT SAID IF SHE HATES KLINGONS SO MUCH WHY IS SHE THE ONE ABOARD THAT SHIP. IT MAKES NO SENSE. anyway it missed the fucking mark. i loved the poker game though

peak condition: i loved this one. it was so funny and full of shenanigans and hijinks. this is actually the most i have ever liked wesley, who used his dumb annoying kid persona as a cover to CHEAT a metaphorical kobayashi maru. i genuinely unironically thought it was great. eveyrbody was rolling their eyes at him bc he had to go back for his experiment and then meanwhile he's loading antimatter onto the hathaway with a PERFECT fucking poker face behind their backs

i loved the little npc this episode, he was such a ham. he truly was doing the most he was so funny

best plot twist ever is when worf fakes the first enemy ship and then the second enemy ship is the real one. the comedic timing of that was HILARIOUS and riker finding a way to make it work even when that strategy guy said it was impossible bc he had too much charisma was great

my one sour note was pulaski setting data up to do that video game match. she realized her mistake and apologized but i still wanted to kill her. i would have hated it less had data volunteered on his own, because i DID like his little arc about learning sometimes he will make mistakes even if his solution to beating the guy in the end felt like a little bit of a copout. anyway, stellar episode despite that little hiccup, i wish tng was that fun all the time

shades of gray: actually much less horrific than i expected given its clip show nature. some of the clips were ones i liked and the ones i fucking hated i felt no shame in speeding up or even skipping through entirely (i can't believe they wanted us to watch tasha yar die again LMAOOO and that fake girl on the holodeck like come ON).

that said, the part before the clipshow was very VERY charming. riker living it up while everyone else is having kittens about his impending doom, his determination to keep both his dignity and sense of humor while facing death...unironically some of the best riker content hiding in that episode. i feel like i got to watch 12 minutes of cool riker stuff and then a few cool clips.

i guess that was pulaski's last appearance? rip girl, you tried and again women i am so sorry.

anyway, that's it for season 2. we literally fucking made it. tomorrow night we're starting season 3 and doing every episode together until we hit three duds in a row lol.

I’ve always loved reality TV and I don’t tend to judge people based on what’s shown on reality television because it’s a stressful environment, with lots of editing and often production interference into interpersonal drama. That said, I do like discussing what I see as well (I just don’t see it as a be all end all of someone’s personality). I’ve seen some hate for Seonwoo on other social media platforms and it’s making me sad! I do think he’s frustrating, but tbh I’m enjoying watching him as a reality-TV lover lol. I don’t particularly think he’s malicious or manipulative, I think he’s mostly just very insecure and so deep in his people pleasing ways it’s hard for him to snap out of it even if that’s what would be best. If he does like Sungho I do want him to go for it! I’m rooting for the roommates, but on a dating show anyone is fair game. That said, I think based on what he’s says on the show he’s still figuring himself out. He says he only started coming out a week before filming, which means he spent 30+ years hiding a big part of himself. Korea is obviously a homophobic country and he probably struggled a lot with his identity. He said he feels uncomfortable watching queer movies, which could be for a lot of reasons but could also be more evidence of his insecurity. I don’t think he’s a bad person, but I think he probably grew up with a big fear that people finding out about his sexuality would make them not like him, and he really wants to be liked and that seems to carry over to the way he’s approaching romantic relationships. I’m not sure he’s intentionally leading people on in a mean way as much as he’s just like desperate to please people and to not have anyone dislike him and he’s afraid if he straight up rejects someone they will dislike him. It’s endlessly frustrating as a viewer but as a person I kinda just want to give him a hug lol.

thank you so much for this anon it’s literally like you read into the crevices of my mind. when i started watching this show with my mom and sisters (yes it’s a whole family affair now) and they turned against seonwoo quickly, this is the narrative i also gave them as a counter to their arguments. and i do largely agree with it, and agree that it explains to some extent his behaviour on the show. fundamentally, he is a people pleaser. i thought that from the moment he walked in, that smiley disposition and how chatty he was, how easily he could interact and tease people, it just all fed in to that typical image of a ‘nice guy’. but then he also has his gayness, which clashes with his need to please people and have them like him bc he’s in a society where the prevailing opinion is still that gayness is not a norm, so him being gay stops him from pleasing people, stops people from liking him, which would only exacerbate his behaviour bc he feels like he has to cover or make up for that part of himself by being that much more nice and likeable. and even now he’s on a show where that isn’t a problem, he can’t get out of this headspace he’s been in the majority of his life where being himself and those inner, core things about him, his real thoughts and feelings, are unlikeable, so it only makes sense that he needs time to adjust after coming out, and we’re seeing him right at the start of that journey so of course he still has a ways to go.

having said that, I don’t think he is completely innocent, which is not anything against him bc this is still a game, even putting aside the show even just the love triangle or dating itself is somewhat of a game. when you go out on dates or interact with people with the goal to form a relationship, people generally arent always themselves, be it wanting to be their best version or not wanting to give away all of themselves until a deeper connection forms. there’s many ways to go about forming a relationship and I don’t think relationships inherently have more merit just bc both parties were entirely themselves from day one. it’s all to say I don’t inherently dislike seonwoo bc he isn’t being 100% honest, and if anything him not behaving this way would be more dishonest if this is just part of who he is. but I do believe that he is aware of his behaviour, aware of how he’s trying to control and lead certain relationships, bc there is intent there. thinking off the top of my head, when he slid the mission card for junsung to read about picking dates, knowing he was going on a date with sungho and junsung missed out, there was intent behind that to be smug, at least that’s how I saw it. or when, after a talk with hyungjin where hyungjin said he didn’t like his personality, he kept going to feed him, there’s intent behind that to mend that relationship and gain back some favour bc he doesn’t want someone to dislike him. and right there you have an example of him just doing something that I saw as bad intent and something that I saw as good intent, which is to say I don’t think he is malicious or bad as a person, but that he does undeniably display some of those behaviours sometimes. there is only so far you can take reasons and explanations for behaviours until everything is written off, which is why for me with seonwoo I have this threshold almost, of what I can see is this complex he has manifesting, and what despite all that has ill intent.

and just like you said anon, it’s all to say that this is me taking the bare bones of a person and what is presented of them in a show and creating my idea of that person that i see when I watch it. that’s what people do, and I can’t help but get annoyed when people try to criticise having and developing an opinion of someone on tv like you’re supposed to just be totally separate to and subjective of everything you watch. yes, I might handle things with more care and understanding and nuance when it’s reality tv bc the bare bones of these people are real, but just as you expand and form canon around characters, I do that with these people too, and if I have enough mental understanding to know that the idea of someone I have in my head is different from who that person actually is, bc that is someone I can never and will never know fully, then just like… leave me to have my fun pls. bc it is all fun. I have never one said and would outright reject the idea that seonwoo is not fantastic tv, and the season would not be able to carry these storylines without him. you can hate the villain for what they do to the heroes, and for all their bad qualities, but still love what they bring to the story, and even revel in those bad qualities bc they are so fun to watch. when im yelling at seonwoo to stop being a gossip or holding onto sungho or leading on yonghee, im having the best time. and when he takes someone to the side for a private conversation, I can’t lie, I have the biggest evil grin on my face thinking yes what mess do we have in store this time. seonwoo is just that person, you want to hate him, you want to comfort him, and you just can’t look away while he creates chaos.

personally. just another Food And Seeing Family holiday. like my family never went to church so it's the same as Easter with but in fall and less eggs and candy and more turkey and Fall Stuff. my dad's family is states away while my moms is an hour away and that's The Indian Side so it's literally just. everyone goes to chill at memas house for a couole hours. we get to see my baby cousin and have good food and catch up and complain about family drama and that's about it tbh. very informal

there's not much I can personally Do about the concept and it's an excuse to have time off and see family I don't usually and have good food, but it's always been divorced from the original intent for us for obvious reasons. i don't hate it on the principle of its existence so much as I hate some attitudes about it and the Discourse surrounding it cause it's kinda just. clearly not going away. yes i am spiteful about white people who deny the reality of it, of course. but im not gonna waste Being Angry about a thing that's... I'm not gonna say harmless of course but it won't go away bc people like having time off work and/or opportunities to visit with family. but the people who refuse to acknowledge the fact that we're fed lies (at best) surrounding it from kindergarten onward until we learn about it either of our own accord or from family depending on circumstances and such, much less those who hold it as some kind of red blooded american ideal or whatever the hell else those kinds of people see it as. Awesome! I have more propaganda. This one is for a non-canon ship from an obscure fandom. So I'm posting this mostly for fun and to try to get some others to check out the show. I also have the only fanfic for this ship on ao3. Lol 😆

But the chinese historical drama The Wolf has three main leads: Ji Chong, Ma Zhaixing, and Youwen(Langzai), and I love them all.

It features a lead female (Ma Zhaixing) who is in an arranged marriage with a man (Youwen/Langzai) who she used to be best friends with as a kid (he was raised by the wolves in the forest by her house!?) but is pretending that he ISNT that man and/or that he doesn't remember her because his dad is a bad guy and plot reasons. Then she runs away with the second guy (Ji Chong), who is a wanderer but he turns out to be a prince (for the 'good' king on the other side of the war). And then THEY get married, because it turns out she is a lost princess too??? But she doesn't love him as much as the other guy (despite them being besties and him being SUCH a good guy, and he LOVES her). So eventually, he lets her go so she can be with the other guy, and then they all team up to take down the first guy's evil dad.

BUT the reason I ship them ot3 is cus the 2 guys are friends and get along well. Also, they both acknowledge how much the other cares for her. And, like, one half is long-time loves, and the other half is literally married. So I feel like the obvious answer is to just, both date her, and combine the 2 kingdoms into one. Also, there is one scene where im like: oh, the guys have chemistry, too.

Also Ji Chong is my favorite Xiao Zhan role (yes even more than wei wuxian) and the COSTUMES in the show are so good. They gifs I picked are not good representationz of the absolutely amazing outfits.

Hiiiii! This is a bit specific but do you know any romance novels (Modern or historical) with Brown leads that aren't about cultural trauma? 💀 I feel a bit tired everytime I pick up a book with a Brown (SWANA or South Asian) lead bc it's always about arranged marriage drama, generational clashes between disappointed old fashioned uber strict immigrant parents who wanted their kid to be doctor and their child, terrible aunties and racism and/or islamophobia related drama. I kind of feel bad for thinking like this bc all the romance books with SWANA or South Asian leads are always written by women who belong to the cultures in the books and I wanna support them whenever I can, but I'm also tired of getting slapped by trauma I personally know when all I want is fun, drama,good chemistry,cute tropes and good spice without pin straight honey blonde locks, ocean blue orbs and milky white skin,you know? 😥

I have literally dedicated my life to finding such books (I joke with a friend that every time she picks up a book with an Asian lead, there's inevitably generational trauma), and it's hard! I feel like only recently have I started to see South Asian authors write in a way that doesn't make me think they hate their own culture or are embarrassed by it. Unfortunately, I can't think of a historical romance that doesn't have some form of racial trauma (I wish more romances set in South Asia existed/were published abroad). But here are some contemporary recs:

Tastes like Shakkar by Nisha Sharma (out on 8/1): My full review isn't out yet, but I loved Bobbi and Benjamin's (dw despite the names, they're both Punjabi) relationship progression (it's sold as enemies to lovers but the enemies portion doesn't last super long tbh). It has solid sex scenes and Nisha even ventures into kink (a rarity for non-white characters). Plus, both Bobbi and Benjamin embrace their culture and you get the sense that they truly love it, and funnily enough, the aunty squad in this book is actually a force for good lol.

The Roommate Risk (previously Wanna Bet?) by Talia Hibbert: Friends-to-lovers but done RIGHT. Rahul Khan has been in love with Jasmine Allan since he gave his virginity to her (the flashback scenes in this one are great). Now, 7 years later, she's living with him because her apartment flooded, and cue all the angst and confused feelings!! Talia writes her sex scenes really well, this amazing combination of emotional intimacy and realness (and a little humor), not to mention they're uniformly hot.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert: So in hindsight, Talia Hibbert tends to make her South Asian heroes daddy types (stern brunch daddy types.... if you will) and Zafir Ansari fits within this pattern. Him and Dani decide to fake-date to help get publicity for his charity. The funny thing here is that Rahul is the romantic (he reads Harlequin romances!!!!!! And having sex without feelings is a STRUGGLE for this man) and Dani is relationship-avoidant, so that's fun for them. Also, Zafir is dealing with grief from losing his father and brother, but it's less "South Asian Family Trauma" and moreso just a genuine exploration of grief and coping with the help of his family.

Claiming His Bollywood Cinderella by Tara Pammi: I think Harlequins might be your best bet if you want to read about Indians in India (fun fact, Tara inspired me to try writing a Harlequin-style romance). This has kind of a Cinderella vibe; The hero Vikram is a Bollywood actor, and the heroine Naina is his grandma's assistant and they hook up at a masquerade party (which was.... very hot even if Vikram is prone to speeches while he's inside her lol), and it goes from there. It's a solid (technically slow-burn I think) romance.

The Secret She Kept in Bollywood by Tara Pammi: This is about Vikram's sister Anya and the adopted father of the child Anya gave away several years ago, Simon (he's brown too), who might also be the DILFiest DILF to ever DILF. Tell me what other man can help you through a panic attack without even knowing who you are, and then immediately proceed to give you the best sex of your life? I'll wait. No but real talk, this one hits a lot of really great emotional notes about family (not to mention a great romance) without being about, like, South Asian trauma.

Sink or Swim by Tessa Bailey: Ft. a Gujarati heroine, Jiya, and Andrew, her friend who's been in love with her since forever. What I love about this book is that the friends-to-lovers aspect isn't too cutesy; it's a bit angsty and the sexual obsession aspect is what really sold me (not to mention the fact that Andrew's a service top and that's shown in the BEST scene, therefore also subverting the "submissive Asian woman" stereotype). I also think I think the book has very reasonable portrayal of Desi parents; they want what they think is best for Jiya, and Jiya actually agrees to meet a guy in an an arranged-marriage set up, but ultimately they come around to Andrew once they understand that he loves her and will take care of her.

Serving Pleasure by Alisha Rai: Okay so maybe this has some intergenerational South Asian family drama (namely how Rana's mother views her sex life) but it's too good not to recommend! Like, sometimes you really want a crazy heroine who lowkey stalks the hero (but it's okay, Micah here gets off on it... literally), and Rana ends up being his muse (he's an artist) as they start an affair with a definite end date but obviously, Feelings get in the way.
