I hope the devs dont hate me :’) anyways while i was being nosy i was thinking about the funding for touchstarved and if theyve done any funding rounds yet besides the kickstarter. I havent found any articles about it,,, other related companies like nix hydra and dorian did some seed and series A funding to raise money for their studios and i could find info/articles about that, even how much they raised(dorian approx 16MIL total and NH with about 6MIL back in 2014) Nothing about red spring though besides “touchstarved coming soon from indie studio” i worry about their funding a little. Touchstarved is set to be a big project and with the stretch goals,,, its a lot of money being spent on things that arent.. necessary persay? Dont get me wrong i would love an animated intro and original soundtrack etc etc. idk much about running a gaming studio though. I have zero experience whatsoever with anything like it so take everything i say with a massive grain of salt. I have read up a lot on the nix hydra fiasco though(queue the glassdoor reviews and masterpost and such) and learned they spent a lot of their funding poorly, as expected with bad management and i trust red spring a bit more. I dont see any records of investors and sponsors for red spring and i think they even mentioned in the blerdy interview that they didnt really have any and money was a major obstacle for running the studio. I cant help but worry about the success of the studio with that in mind. But its far too early to tell and unlike nix hydra im pretty sure red spring is mostly remote and doesnt have to worry about funds for the office building. So far, things seem to be going really good minus the lack of investors. The team is full of talented, highly credited people and the kickstarter has gone above and beyond. I have faith that this project will work out and ill keep supporting from the sidelines,, and being nosy

I honestly think such a prime example of "because its beth" is when you look at Kerr.

Now let me start by saying I dont dislike Kerr, I dont like her, Im completely indifferent to her. But when I think of some of the things Ive seen from Kerr, I think you can look at how people react that says so much.

Obviously without the ins and outs of the latest racism stuff, Im talking about how she had used hashtags and stuff on old posts that she has now deleted and yet no one makes a fuss on them (and lets be honest, not that much fuss was made on the current racism thing even before we knew what was actually said), yet you have people bringing up those thatcher tweets with Beth that are as old if not older than the hashtags and stuff on Kerrs posts but yet no one really brings them up. And then you add in that Beth gets called racist just because she was asked a leading question and came out with an ignorant at best response but by no means was it "Racism" itself.

I also think that Kerr has shown just as much support for some "questionable" athletes in the past as Beth has but again, no fuss made on that. But not just Kerr in this case, SO many players have shown support/that they are fans of questionable athletes but again, I dont see people making a big deal about that.

Its just SO clear that its a Beth agenda because its so clear that there are plenty of other athletes that have done similar (and some even worse) and yet they dont get half as much shit and if it was years ago then they get the same people bringing up old shit for Beth that say those people clearly arent the same people they were then and theyve grown up. Its just constant contradictions with these people that show its an agenda

Okay, let me get this clear I'm a massive fan of Kerr for Australia, not at all for Chelsea. Having said that, here's my opinion.

I don't like some stuff she says and does. Sometimes, for instance, when she spoke up about someone telling her goals weren't valid, I found that inspiring. She was brilliant.

But some other times, she says and does stuff that would be genuinely questioned if it was anyone else. That's exactly the reason she went ahead and said what she said to that police officer. She may or may not be punished for it, who knows.

Another thing is, imagine if anyone else did this, the conversation around it would be so different. Now, imagine if Beth said something remotely similar, we'd all be crucified along with her. There is a bias in how fans perceive situations like that and their preconceived notions about players come in to play when they decide how to react to them.

Only a very few can objectively say yeah Kerr is wrong in the policeman incident, and Mead is wrong in the Krygios incident. But one is bigger than the other and let me tell you it's NOT the one that's been discussed on social media every time they want to drag the player, it's the one which has made the player a cult hero.

i think too many people refuse to look at maes critically because he dies and therefore is sympathetic, but considering roy wanted to become fuhrer to try everyone who was involved in the ishvalan genocide (because i refuse to call it a war when it was so one-sided) because the system and the public hailed them as heroes (including HIMSELF!!!! roy canonically wanted to put himself on trial, he didnt exempt himself) i dont think maes would have been spared from that!

especially considering conqueror of shamballa, where maes hughes is genuinely a nazi soldier and sees nothing wrong with it until EDWARD (a retired soldier from a fascist regime who knows the military is nothing but dogs and was using their resources to atone for his own sins and attempt to fix his brother, not even himself, (and in a way committed suicide by doing what he did at the end of 03, because i think dimensional travel counts as a form of suicide to the people left behind)) makes him confront that ugly, horrifying truth.

maes hughes is canonically not a man who self-examines and attempts to improve past awful mindsets. not like roy does, not like edward does, and not like riza does. and the difference between them is that all three of those characters are aware of what they have done and what atrocities they have committed, and attempt to atone for them even when they know that they won't be forgiven for it, and arent even seeking forgiveness in the first place, just redemption.

maes does NOT do this. he helps roy and does things for him not because he knows its the right thing to do, but because roy asked him to. because he values roy as a friend. that is fucking dangerous. what if roy wanted something genuinely awful for amestris and for the ishvalan refugees living in the slums? i think, considering what we know of maes, he would have followed along, just because roy is his friend.

fma (and all of its incarnations) is a wonderful examination of on-the-surface kind and good people doing genuinely horrible things, and attempting to atone for those things their entire lives, knowing that it will never make up for what theyve done and what trauma theyve inflicted onto others and themselves. it is an examination of how even the nicest kindest people can be capable of monstrous things and not even fucking bat an eye. "just following orders".

and for the record, i think scar is exempt from this, to some extent. the revenge arc where they try to show roy and scar as parallels is.. it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and they never should have been shown as similar or meant to mirror one another. roy was continuing a cycle of murder, damn the consequences, in a personal revenge quest for his friend. scar was expressing rage and grief over his entire people being slaughtered and driven from their homes and their religion being torn down and being hatecrimed in the country they fled to, the very country that did this to them because it was their only option, and KNEW he might die in the process and all he had to say for that was "i have done all i can". scar did kill people, but honestly i cannot say they didnt fucking deserve it, as soldiers who did genuinely participate in the ishvalan genocide. (this is a direct mirror, i think, to how POC are portrayed in the media. as much as i can contribute anyways, as a white person who isnt jewish.)

the only moment where we see scar as being in the wrong (or at least me) is when he tries to kill edward, but honestly i see where he is coming from in that respect too. he has no idea who edward is, only that he appears to be this fucking brainwashed child taken in by the military for being a prodigy, and he will become an instrument of war. he didnt know anything about ed, or that ed was attempting to atone for his OWN sins, or that he was planning to retire once he got what he needed from the military and the state.

So the third episode was a little.. different

I’m sure I’ll edit this post a hundred times adding more grievances but like god it’s awkward knowing the original plot. The kids come to conclusions way faster in the show and they gave Benidect the Gemini clue which is wierd because they don’t need to be giving clues like that. Curtain and Benidect were separated as babies in the book so it’s awkward so hard they’re pushing the lost friendship ordeal. Curtain and the institute as a whole is a lot more cultish which is wierd because curtain is a very angry man in a wheelchair in the book and a spiritual man in this. Milligan and the ladies I don’t have much to complain about. I guess it’s cool seeing Benidect have a breakdown about Curtain since we don’t see much of their side in the book but again the we were brothers until 12!!!! Stuff is. Icky. Curtains office is so decorated when in the book it’s empty and cold. He’s an empty cold man. And he HAS A WHEELCHAIR THATS TWO WHEELCHAIRS THEYVE REMOVED FROM THE BOOK. The barge instead of the waiting room feels more tv drama instead of ominous threat that scars kids for life. I guess in hindsight it is odd Benidect doesn’t react off at all to finding out Curtain is his brother in the books but these extremes are so wierd. I’ll be honest I didn’t realize SQ was in the show. I was going to say “episode 3 without sq” but it’s the kid. I was so annoyed when they introduced the kid! I didn’t even realize it was SQ! He doesn’t have a kid! Curtain doesn’t love! He’s basic evil! He doesn’t scare the kids because he’s a cult leader he scares them because he looks exactly like Benidect but is MEAN AND ANGRY. The kids figure out he’s the twin so fast BECAUSE they change his appearance so much in the show when they need such a huge help from Benidect to figure it out in the book. SQ I always imagined as young 20s. He sees curtain as a father but he is not ACTUALLY HIS CHILD Edit 2: everything about Curtain is wrong now that I think about it. He’s an idiot who has scientists working for him. He is caring snd cultly. He has NO SIGN OF NARCOLEPSY. I didn’t push it when I first wrote this post but now I will he has the wheelchair and the plaid and the sunglasses to HIDE the narcolepsy but no he’s just a cult leader it’s grossly bad

Edit: 1 good and 1 bad- Bloom the helper is so happy. It keeps leaning into the cult gunk. The helpers are supposed to be depressed. Milligan is depressed. I hate how cult heavy they’re leaning instead of getting stuff done to gain control like in the books. Love Ms Puermal getting more action than in the books. Wierd, but I love her.

All in all this was a disappointingly weak episode. This is what I expected to happen in episode 1 and when it didn’t I went oh maybe this will be ok but now it’s just… really off. I hope they pull back a bit but I’m worried it won’t and It’ll just be subpar. Idk. It’s fine for fans who are new but you should really just read the book and appreciate it as what it’s meant to be.

the beholding - book club, gertrude is the supervision teacher and elias is club head, its called book club but its really just an excuse to get together and gossip

the spiral - where the druggies hang out, its not technically an offical club, michael used to be club head but he graduated so now its helen who by all appearances is a Good Student

the web - cs club, they’re actually making a dating sim right now??? weird. why does it involve some students at the school??? the supervising teacher is only known as mr. spider

the vast - a bunch of sky diving enthusiasts. how are there that many in this school. theyve been on like, 2 actual trips. supervising teacher is simon fairchild

the corruption - anime club

the slaughter - the Gamers, they have a discord chat and everything. most of them are pretty shitty but hey! they’re having fun eh. melanie is in it but she rage quits too much to really get Into It

the lonely - technically its chess club but literally no one is in it. mr lukas just chills in a classroom once a week during lunch

the end - anime club again but this one’s for the edgy kids

the dark - nap time club, literally just a classroom thats been darkened and kids can come in during lunch to nap

the hunt - fishing club, literally what the fuck. does anyone like fishing? whatever, theres actually a lot of people in this club which makes you wonder if its really just about fishing. they also seem to read lord of the flies a lot. the supervising teacher is trevor herbert, who always looks a little grimy and has a vague Energy to him 

the stranger - drama club, theyre always putting on one production or the other. ms robinson has a famous feud with this club’s supervision teacher nikola orsinov
