So the week of May 25th I was making juice. And the lemon came from Fred’s lemon tree. And as I was cutting the lemon I realized a couple of seeds had sprouted. So of course I got excited because HELLO why not have a lemon tree from Fred’s tree?! (If you don’t know who Fred is just know he’s one of the greatest people to have ever existed and find my #adventureswithfred posts). Anywho. I planted the seed. Along with a few others that seemed to be in good shape. And now I basically have a tiny baby lemon tree forest. I hadn’t shared much here mostly it’s on my @underthe.lemontree acct because that’s where my doodles go and he inspired so many of them so the tree felt appropriate there. But. Anywho. It’s one of my favorite plants. It’s such a little thing but I’m convinced he’d be proud. I was always showing him some new weird plant I’d bought. A regret I have is I never made him go with me to a nursery 🤣🤭💜. I’m so excited to see how this turns out. It would have been a fun thing to show him on his 100th birthday last week. 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋 That I’ll have another lemon tree sprout in that spot by tomorrow morning. I’m noticing “bumps” in the soil right before a sprout. It’s ok if your dirt is bumpy. It’s making room for growth. I have plenty of bumps in the soil of my life right now. It’s upsetting. And painful. Sometimes we don’t know dead things are dead because they still look pretty or feel comfortable. These flowers that never bloomed - they’re still dead. I pulled them off and it made room for new things to grow on the original plant. The little stems are less heavy so the remaining flowers can look up to the sun now. And the energy needlessly being snapped by trying to revive the dead flowers can now be used to make the good flowers even healthier. Let the dead things go. The rest of these pink babies bloomed! Of course there were some dried out ones that I had to remove. Probably more than I wanted to. But. It made room for more growth. Heaven knows we can all use some growth. #Sunday is water the #fiddleleaffigs day ‘round here. I love that the “baby tree” (as my lil neighbor buddy calls is) is growing nicely. This baby still has no name. I’m tempted to snip the older leaf and start a new tree but right now I suppose I’ll leave it be. Elsa (the momma tree - my neighbor is so cute) is doing good. Healthy. My sister and I were chatting about Elsa, my decapitated Fiddle Leaf Fig tree. (Yes it has a name. Names for the leaves she let go❄️😉). Anyway — Elsa has been growing something new 🌱❄️😉 My tree has sprouted 4(!!) new nubs (or is it nibs?) of some kind (leaves? Branches? Too soon to tell) and the nameless decapitated part has begun to sprout roots (🥳) and as we were chatting @shegrowshere said something that was about the tree but it was kinda profound to me. The leaves that the tree had were using the energy. But since that part got broken off, the energy that would have gone to the leaves was put to a different use - something new. The potential for growth was there, but wasn’t realized until that section was broken off. Please don’t come around and break my plants — it’s not something I’m fond of. But. It definitely gives a different perspective on things in life we’d otherwise see as “broken”. Ok. That’s all I got. The broken tree piece has little beginnings of roots. Hallelujah. No idea what’s going to happen with the twiggy stump but this is good. I was afraid it was mold or some weird crap that didn’t belong there. This little tiny green thing (that you may not be able to see yet so you’ll just have to trust me) is THE MOST EXCITING THING I’ve seen all week. This little fiddle leaf fig tree was gifted to me a year ago (thanks @mrs.jdp!) and I’ve been really trying to get it to grow a new leaf, branch ANYTHING!! It’s name is Elsa. I don’t name my plants usually but you’d have to go hunt down the previous post for that story so good luck. Anyways. Elsa is a survivor. Moved homes. Dropped leaves. Let go of a lot of leaves. Actually. Making me nervous haha. I was reading and learning how to encourage growth. Got specific fiddle leaf dig tree food.... I was beginning to think nothing was happening. But. Here it is. A year later. A little something. In the midst of chaos. In the midst of uncertainty. In the midst of recovering. In the midst of mistakes. In the midst of waiting. I dunno what’s happening here (or what kind of succulent this is) but this thing was a tiny tight little ball up until today. Maaaaybe yesterday. I just plopped it on soil and hoped for the best.
