I'm so used to reading books written by men where the main character has a cat and then the cat dies and the main character isn't affected at all, other than thinking "I was never really that attached, my ex liked the thing more, but I could at least feel pity for the miserable creature."

So yeah anyways, I'm now reading a book written by a man, with a main character who has a cat that dies. Oh and the main character is also really depressed so off to the cold no-emotions land normally. But she's devastated! Like holy shit! She loved her cat and what happened to it is one of the main regrets she has to resolve, along with relationship and career regrets!
