Most LGBT cishet movie?
Tumblr media
Movie Submissions!
Sometimes a cishet movie is a hit in this community even without any stories or characters reflecting us (or at least not explicitly or intentionally or... tastefully). Either because of its campiness and witty banter, its drama, its weirdness, amazing soundtrack and costumes or its diva-like personality taking center stage. Please don't take this poll seriously.
Examples of movies that follow the rules below:
The Wizard of Oz (1939), Clue (1985), The Exorcist (1973), The Servant (1963), The Sound of Music (1965), Heathers (1988), Little Shop of Horrors (1986), All About Eve (1950), Jawbreaker (1999), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), 9 to 5 (1980).
Rules for Submissions:
Please don't fight we're literally just ranking the straightest gay movies and transest cis people. The most conforming and queer paradox.
Because of the tendency of this site to call something "gay" just because 2 conventionally attractive men stand next to each other for 5 seconds, I'm not counting shipping possibilities that much. The level of drama, camp and the number drag parodies it has is way more important than possible romantic relationships or sexual tension in submitted films. Also there's ace and aro people voting. Keep them in mind!
It has to be cishet but somehow still queer. Can be the camp, general weirdness, gnc clothes, sassiness, the inclusion of a diva, accidental coding, or some other secret option. Honestly if you find a way to reason so hard it works, you could even try to submit The Godfather (... it is very quotable...)
Submit movies that aren't just American!
Submit movies that are cult classic masterpieces or movies that objectively suck!
I love Mamma Mia but it does have gay characters. This poll came about because I found that a lot of older movies had queer fans that were able to connect to others through these movies while creating their own spaces. This was despite the movie being "straight and gender conforming". I love that there's more rep now, but I'm aiming for this to poll contain more vintage movies for a reason. and I want to expand my watchlist. I'm aware that there are movies from the 70s, 1920s, and other older eras with explicitly gay themes and characters like Victim 1961 or Salome 1920 (and I encourage you to widen your scope of historically significant films) but this isn't that poll.
Old movies with very stealth trans or gay coding with its side characters and unintentional lgbt+ coding is allowed, but you know these things can be hit or miss. Besides, I put Heathers on here even though it's homophobic. Fun but homophobic. You can submit movies with homophobia or conformist themes to a degree.
You can submit propaganda videos, text, and images! If you know any drag parodies of the movies, send them my way!
If you don't want to submit directly, you can @ me
Posts with polls will be tagged as #mlcm poll. Movies posts with #user submitted or #user submission means it was submitted through the google forms and will enter the tournament
Given that not a lot of people watch older movies, the battling polls will be paired by decade until it gets whittled down to the finals where old and young will both compete.
Competition will start May 1 in honor of The Wicker Man 1973, which i wish counted as a poll entry, but I limited myself to one movie I'd slip into the tournament despite the fact that there's not a lot of lgbt fans of the movie. And this was my runner up because I really liked The Exorcist's Regan and Karras. Unless someone else submits him, Wicker Man's not gonna be there. Rest in Peace Christopher Lee and his ugly blonde wig.

Transcript: Adam Smith interview on Minthara
"…we're writing this for a very small audience and when they get to it, they're going to get something special..."
Note: This is an excerpt that mentions Minthara from a PC Gamer interview with Adam Smith, the lead writer at Larian Studios.
Adam: I got um one note from uh... You've probably seen Amelia's video outtakes as the narrator... I got one note from Emma who plays Minthara and she was just like "Thanks for all the drow words, they're really good fun to say!" and I was like, that's sarcastic isn't it! They're really hard to say, she nailed them, but my God!
Interviewer: I love that, but I was wondering if you had a specific favourite or if there's a favourite quest line or just like a specific like; or just a quotable line of dialogue that you really love?
Adam: Ah so... Oh the stuff I want to say... Okay fine, I can say stuff that's from... it's fine, block your ears if you don't want to hear. They're not story spoilers...
So, I actually write less dialogue than you might think. My job is mostly to edit everyone else's work, so I know other people's lines better than my own, because those ones I kind of write them and then say somebody else can deal with that now... Whereas everyone else's lines I'm like you know, "okay, how do we make this as brilliant as it can be" but...
I spent a lot of time on Minthara. And we knew from the beginning Minthara is a character that most people will kill. She's a villain you meet her; you can recruit her, but most people kill her. We know that from the stats and we knew that putting the effort into writing lots and lots of dialogue for this character was going to be appreciated by very few people, but we're like hell it's good... I nearly swore don't if I'm allowed to swear...
And I put in one line which I don't know how many people will ever see it, so I'm going to just say it now.
So Minthara's story, she's been infected with tadpole, she's working for the cult and when you recruit her essentially, she comes under your protection and she can no longer hear the voice of God, of the Absolute; and you deprogram her. And she doesn't become a nice person, she's just like "Okay, let's do evil for ourselves now. Let's not do it for anyone else, let's take control."
And there's a moment when she gets very close to you, if she does, she has a crisis of confidence and she said, "I don't know if I can do this" and you can say "Look you're stronger than anyone I've ever met" and she says "If I'd never met you then I would have been... I would have still been a maniac doing things at the will of a God that doesn't exist" and you say "But you did meet me" and she says "Yeah and 9 times out of 10 I would just one more corpse in your crusade" and it's a little sad moment, but, it's also a little tap on the forth wall that says "Yes, in all your other playthroughs you piece of crap".
[laughs]
She's a horrible person it should be said, but the ones that I love are the moments where we're like, "we're writing this for a very small audience and when they get to it, they're going to get something special" and that, that stuff I love. I love our villains as well.
Interviewer: As a Dark Urge monk are you going to recruit Minthara on that playthrough?
Adam: yeah, I have her already. I usually take her along just because I spent so much time with (writing) her.
Interviewer: Yeah definitely.

can you recommend some fun youtubers to watch. bonus points if they are black.
ALL BLACK YOUTUBERS YOU SAY
youtube
the youtubers i watch the absolute most are kevonstage + angel on here's the thing. its technically a podcast, they talk about current events every wednesday and they're both comedians with untreated adhd. this show is where the original 'one margarita' lyrics came from, then it was remixed and blew up on tiktok ☝🏽
youtube
doreimani, a magical girl youtuber! she usually reviews magi girl content and other magi girl adjacent stuff! she recently made over her room and im inspired 🫶🏽
grimmelle, they make extremely sporadic and random video essays on things they like. the first video i watched of theirs was about flapjack LOL but they seem to like horror a lot!
youtube
MY FRIEND BUNZONE!! he's just starting but his vid quality.. fun and good... (follow for his ocs also...)
youtube
I'M LIKE... ALMOST CERTAIN CJ THE X IS MIXED BLACK... BUT IF HE'S NOT IMAGINE I AINT PUT HIM HERE. anyway their vids are so.. chaotic and insightful. Quotable. Iconic. watching this vid specifically years ago got me so inspired i thumbnailed 15 comic pages. perfectionism literally defeated. im overdue for a rewatch.
youtube
ANOTHER FRIEND, NICO'S BIG HEAD <3 she does a lot of vlogs and in the vlogs she paints traditionally, sews, makes clay figures, etc. i love watching them, they,re inspiring And relaxing <3

what motivates me to shift?
thank u @morganshifts for the lovely idea!
so… there are a lot of things that motivate my to keep going in my shifting journey. this is a post i have made before (i’m pretty sure it was an ask) but i kinda wanna update it now, because there r more things!!
i hope this inspires u guys to keep going :)
having a regular job!
i was never allowed to have a regular job in high school :( it’s something i have really wanted to experience. i grew up very privileged, which made me upset in ways. am i grateful i have money, and i don’t struggle much, but i want to be ‘normal’ in a way. i’ve always wanted to be a barista too! i think it will be really fun!
2. friends :,)
let me preface by saying this — I DO HAVE FRIENDS AND THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY LOVELY <3 but i have never had constant friends.
growing up privileged, for me at least, meant always moving schools (primarily because of the divorce) and i have been in and out of private and public schools. i’ve never had constant friends. i want to! but i cannot here, or i haven’t.
literally my main dr is shifting back to high school to live with friends and shit bc i want to experience that
3. not being pushed into a box
wow i’m realizing how sad this sounds, but yeah! i won’t have to be forced to be someone i’m not, and i get to move at my own pace!
4. SLEEPOVERS!!
holy fucknuts, i have never had a sleepover with my friends at their houses (only once at my house in elementary school…) my parents will let me sleep over my friends houses :) like for days at a time! i just have to update them, obviously.
5. doing normal things!
going grocery shopping, to the mall, learning to cook! i’m so excited to do this bro u don’t even understand!!
6. being the center of attention (💀💀)
i’m an attention whore (TO AN EXTENT!) so my main dr, where i’m in high school, i am also a celebrity (music artist and actor) and i have celebrity friends!!! they r people i’ve looked up to for a long time, so it excites me a lot
7. HAVING EXOTIC ANIMALS!!!
dude i have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 TARANTULAS!, a boa constrictor and 2 white tigers (they r in a zoo but we technically own them!)
dude u don’t understand how much i love animals and how ive always wanted soooo many! my parents wouldn’t let me, as my first pets were going to be chinchillas before covid, so i have two little dogs here! in my dr i have 1 little/medium dog (a pomski) and 2 big dogs (one is a german shepard btw, bc they r so pretty ; the other is a husky — as i have wanted one since i was like… 5)
8. last one i’m doing; BEING QUOTABLE
i say the most insane things, but finally i’ll be able to get my sayings out there! i know im not always the first one to say it, but at least it will b funny for the most part!
i mean imagine a tiktok to your voice saying “shoulda, woulda, coulda? but fuckin’ didn’t!” LIKE? HOW FUN WOULD THAT BE
or people making cool ass transition videos to ur songs!! AUGH being so inspirational!! being able to keep ppl on their feet AUGHHH OK
that’s it! i may update this or do a part 2, but for now that’s all ill say, bc they r very simple and things like everyone will do 😭😭
but that’s it! love u all! trying to post more, so send in asks!

I’ve seen a few steddie YouTuber aus around and my personal idea is that steve is like a chill video essayist who casually drops dark stories/topics but doesn't glorify or overexaggerate them like Wendigoon while eddie is that one person whose videos start reasonably solid but then details into a whole different tangent with wild energy while somehow still engaging. They’re both quotable out of context from very different ends of the vibe spectrum
oooo I love this. steve casually discussing the most horrible paranormal stories while sipping a beverage and eddie losing his goddamn mind at a cork board with string drawn between his theories on something of absolutely no consequence. they have an online rivalry for fun bc their fan bases overlap a lot but no one knows that they’re dating irl

anyway now that i’m in a starkid mood here’s my ranking of all the starkid shows i’ve watched
1. Twisted - truly believe it’s the perfect parody musical, i’ve rewatched it so many times i can recite most of it by heart
2. Starship - i just really like the concept and the songs are are some of my favorites
3. The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals - for the memes and all the quotable lines
4. Black Friday - made me cry and Tom is healing for my daddy issues
5. The Trail to Oregon - don’t know why, i liked it a lot tho
6. Holy Musical Batman! - also don’t know why, it’s 3 am fuck it
7. Nerdy Prudes Must Die - funny but it’s not the kind of vibe i’m into
8. A Very Potter Musical - i only watched it because it’s The Starkid Musical, the poor video quality makes it so hard to watch. also anything harry potter makes me feel weird now
9. Firebringer - i know a lot of people love this one and i see why, but the ending felt like a cop out to me and pissed me off. also i’m just not into caveman prehistoric stuff
10. Me and My Dick - i watched the first like 10 minutes out of horrified curiosity and couldn’t finish

so @tragically-jane-doe made a post the other day that constance drags the choir to watch starkid musicals. as a result, here’s the st cassian’s chamber choir’s favourite starkid musicals!!!
ricky: so first off, they love that the company name is “starkid” like?? yes please?? but anyway, their favourite is pretty obviously starship!! exhibit a, space puppets. exhibit b, it’s basically bee movie and richard potts is always a slut for the bee movie. exhibit c, kick it up a notch and the reprise. granted, they mostly prefer the music of a very potted musical, but story matters most to them, bringing them to favour starship.
ocean: trail to oregon. i know this sounds like bullshit but hear me out!! ocean doesn’t share a lot of the choir’s cultural hive mind. she never read harry potter or watched aladdin (until the choir forced her to, but they watched twisted as a group *then* aladdin bc constance always assumed ocean had seen disney movies). and ocean is Not a horror gal (also black friday is too anti-capitalist for her in pre-canon at the very least). but trail to oregon is somewhat historical, barely but it’s there, and she did play the oregon trail video game on the shitty library computer. this is the first time she understood references to something rooted in nostalgia and it made her feel normal. she’s also jealous of the family dynamic - everything else she’s seen is too perfect for her to even wish for, but the family in trail to oregon is messy but they still care for each other. ocean wants that. she understands a maternal viewpoint for the first time in her life. granted, the poop jokes are a bit much for her, but the most egregious parts are in a separate video so she just finishes it when you choose who has dysentery.
mischa: black friday. anti-capitalist horror. next.
noel: twisted. twisted is literally The Drama. noel doesn't just care about comedy, he loves how deeply tragic it is (like if you've seen twisted, you Know). also noel was totally a disney kid so the references here really hit for him.
penny: the guy who didn't like musicals. it's so quotable and chaotic and it has horror elements. that bit where (spoilers btw) gary and stu pull out hidgens' stomach and he says "no not my tummy" is the biggest penny energy i've ever seen. also, hive mind means lack of identity. you know who else lost her identity? penny lamb aka jane doe. in addition, being controlled via music is literally what karnak does to them and since she's the one who canonically returns, and in a way it'd be her first memories, she'd connect to it most perhaps. (in all fairness, she also likes me and my dick).
constance: the very potter trilogy, with her favourite being a very potter sequel. i think that it was the first one she discovered and she has a nostalgic connection to it, and she really loves the music. it's the only harry potter media she continues to consume and it really becomes canon in her mind. but honestly, it's very hard for her to choose because she does love all of them!!!

3 top 5s in one? Greedy.
Books
This is how you lose the time war. It has everything I want in a story. Time travel, yearning gayness, a dichotomy between mechanical and natural.
Scott pilgrim. Mostly because it helped me realise I was, at one point, being a bit of a Scott. Also it's endlessly quotable.
Neverwhere. Not usually the Neil Gaiman book that people single out, but i really liked it. I did actually make a point of visiting a lot of the places from the book while i lived there just to map the story to the city in my head.
Frankenstein. Probably the book i enjoyed studying the most. There's so much there to engage with and think about. I find myself coming back to it quite a bit.
His Dark Materials. Probably my favourite childhood book series.
Animals
Dogs. They're just the best.
Cats. They pack so much silly into such a small frame.
Frogs. I just think they're neat.
Geckos. It's the little smiles they seem to have. :)
Rats. They're genuinely such friendly little guys.
Names.
Alex. Just purely vibes based but there's a reason i keep naming my game characters Alex. I'm not one of those people who makes myself in a video game, but i do keep making the same person called Alex.
Robin. I associate this name with realising i was nonbinary.
Bard. The name i would actually swap to if i were to ever give myself an obviously enby name
Emily. Can't explain this one, just like it.
I really can't pick a fifth.

Have some Halloween movies in no particular order
Tumblr media
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra is a great time, if you can find it. It's a love letter to so-bad-it's-good horror movies from the 50's and 60's which were all ambition and no talent e.g. Plan 9 from Outer Space and Manos The Hands of Fate. One of the funniest and most quotable movies I've ever seen!
House is as gorgeous as it is spooky and goofy! If you've not seen it, you're missing out. It's made by a director who made advertisements and a lot of the special effects are what would have been common in Japanese ads at the time.
Martyrs goes on the list for that one asshole who needs something extreme. Not that it's a bad movie, of course. But if you're that asshole and have yet to see it, have fun! If you don't know what I'm talking about, this film is not for the faint of heart and I mean it! Look up "French extremism" if you're curious. Again, if you've not seen it and don't like lots of blood and gore and little left to the imagination, this is absolutely not for you.
Valerie and her Week of Wonders is a gorgeous example of Czech new-wave, about a girl becoming a woman in a village of vampires! Strongly recommend this one if you like House, it's super colorful and whimsical!
Tetsuo the Iron Man is my idea of a more fun kind of extreme film. This is one of those movies I've seen several times and can't seem to remember the story, but suffice to say it's a wild ride about a metal fetishist who becomes sort of a metal monster in a similar fashion to Tetsuo in Akira becoming a giant flesh monster. It's got a very goofy tone and is shockingly wet for a movie about rebar.
The Thing is never not fun. I'm sorry to say I don't know my Carpenter as well as I should, I'm just too stuck on how much I love The thing and may never move forward. Yes I've seen Halloween, just I like The Thing better.
The Devils is a movie you can't watch in your home in a legal capacity, Warner Bros is never releasing this one on home video. Rest assured you can find it. It's a Ken Russell film about a whole convent of nuns (the Mother Superior played by Vanessa Redgrave) are so in lust with this priest, played by Oliver Reed, that they all fein demon possession to evade persecution. The complete version of the movie includes a scene in which all the nuns bang a crucifix. It's one of those movies I say the production team went to "the cool face store", because wow there's a lot of cool looking faces!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, because there will always be virgins
Young Frankenstein was Mel Brooks's only funny movie. Fight me! (men in tights was okay i guess)
Bram Stoker's Dracula. What more need I say?
I can't easily pick any one Jan Svankmajer film, so this is the Svankmajer portion of the list. For the uninitiated, he was a Czech stop-motion animator who made these hyper realistic claymation films, often with a dark context. My favorite feature length films of his are Alice (a telling of Alice in Wonderland), Faust, and Otesanek (his final film and magnum opus, aka Little Otik aka Greedy Guts, based on the fairy tale Otesanek about tree-root baby turned vore-monster). His films aren't necessarily scary, just very unsettling and disturbing.
Hellraiser 2 because I haven't seen it yet and people keep telling me it's the good one, as if the first one wasn't delightfully generous????
The Witches is a movie that upset my very Christian grandmother one time when I was a kid, watching it on TV at her house. I don't think she understood the point that the witches aren't the good guys. I know it's irrelevant, I just thought it was funny. I miss you, Nana.
The Worst Witch. Can someone tell me where to watch this? I never saw it before and I wanna see some tacky Tim Curry schlock
eXistenZ is a movie which I only saw for the first, second, third, and fourth time ever one week last year and I'm ashamed as a Cronenberg fan that it took me so long! Not necessarily his most Halloween-y movie (I'd argue that would be The Fly), it's just a lot of fun.
Think I'll stop there, that's a good sized list.
Add your own recs! What do you watch this time of year?

Today marks the 3 year anniversary since “The Globby Within” premiered and it is one of my absolute favorites for the sweetness, comedy, friendship, and of course, lots of Globby. ^_^ The 4 month wait between “Nega-Globby” and this was excruciating, with it getting significantly worse once the episode info came out because I was so worried on how’d they fix Globby as well as what would happen if Big Hero 6 showed even the slightest doubt of Globby’s innocence. ;_; (Fortunately, most of my anxiety and worry went away as soon as they saw Nega-Globby on the back of Globby’s head and knew it was him doing the destruction, although that image was also disturbing O_O). I was also so proud of Globby for not letting the fame get to him as he was still nice, respectful and he didn’t even charge people for the photos or autographs; all the admiration was just the cherry on top for having real friends like BH6 and Felony Carl (although he’s really his boyfriend ;) ) and feeling good about knowing how he is. ^_^
I wanted to give Globby a hug so bad because he thought it was all his fault and that he’d rather be by himself and possible succumb to Nega-Globby taking over his body than have his friends get hurt. (I also wanted to tell him that yes, he may have eaten Nega-Globby, but it saved Honey Lemon’s life, they had no way to contain him and everyone else was down or out of ammo so it was the best of a bad situation :( ).
This episode had some great quotable lines from him “not sleeping” to talking about his legs going for an evil jog, but I was glad that they managed to save him as well as I’m proud of Globby for learning mimicry (which was awesome to see my friends have two different reactions to it when I watched it with them, where one was wondering why Felony Carl sounded funny and the other had a big smile in realization ^_^). Although it doesn’t end particularly happy since all the superheroes got labeled fugitives. (Thanks Chief Cruz. Maybe you should let them finish what they were saying and you’d have the real culprit for Joe’s getting wrecked -_- ). I am glad however that considering the place my mind went to on how this episode would end, I’m pretty happy that they all made it out okay. :)
(Some of the gifs I used individual frames for since I didn’t have a video I could use to make the gif, so that’s why some may not be as smooth :/ ).

Miscellaneous questions then to get to know ya better bud :3
What is your favorite movie, and if you don’t have one what’s the most recent one you’ve seen?
Do you play video games? (I know you’ve talked about Toon Town a couple of times but do you play anything else?)
Favorite Pokémon or Pokémon Type?
If you could be any animal what would you be and why?
And just a random fact you wanna share :3
Ooo, thank you so much!
Probably Fight Club. I just adore the unique way it's shot/presented and all the commentary it has about toxic masculinity/commercialism. It also has so many quotable lines I absolutely adore, and I love the voice they gave the narrator/MC. The most recent one I watched was the Mario movie!
Yep! Although, to be honest, I have times where I play a lot of games and times where I'm like "nah" lol. Tbh, I don't play Toon Town anymore. It's too frustrating without being able to erase quests and no self healing items. Ironically, I'm both a huge fan of casual games and horror games lol.
I adore things like Tomodachi Life and think everyone is sleeping on Go Vacation (a wii game, also on the Switch now, where you can literally make Miis to travel with and follow you). I think the F/O community would love that one. I am a huge fan of Yai Gameworks horror stuff and RPG Maker games!
My favorite Pokemon has always been Espeon, though Umbreon takes a close second. Either that or Oshawott. I have a soft spots for psychic, dark, and water types. I almost always picked the water type starters when I was little, so.
A wolf, because I've just always loved them and found them so cool!
I'm a bit of a review fanatic and love watching bad movies for the sake of reviewing them (and seeing how bad or bizarre it gets). I have a particular fascination with doll horror, a genre that is oddly over saturated thanks to the popularity of Child's Play and rarely with anything good.

"It's So Cold in the D" turns 15 — the truth behind the accidental Detroit anthem we can't stop singing
By WWJ Newsroom
January 20, 20234:56 pm
DETROIT (WWJ) -- When it comes to Detroit artists who have made an impact on music and culture, there are truly too many to name.
But there’s one local rapper that Metro Detroiters quote regularly — especially during the winter months — who has never really gotten her due.
We’re talking about T-Baby, who had a massive viral hit 15 years ago this month with her now-iconic song, “It’s So Cold in the D.”
And if you tell us you didn’t just sing the hook as you read that — we don’t believe you.
The unbelievably catchy and quotable song was originally penned as a tribute to T-Baby’s late friend Mason Graham, who was fatally shot while trying to break up a fight at Universal Coney Island on Detroit’s east side in 2006.
The music video, was made with a shoe-string budget of just $300, hit YouTube in January of 2008, and went on to rack up an impressive 11 million views.
NOTE: VIDEO CONTAINS PROFANITY
youtube
In the years that followed, variations of the “It’s So Cold in the D” catchphrase have been included in tracks such as Eminem’s “Detroit vs. Everybody” and Big Sean’s “Story by Snoop Lion,” and the song has been performed in-concert by the likes of New Kids on the Block and Usher during tour stops in Detroit.
"It's So Cold in the D" received new life in 2011 when it was included in an episode of MTV’s “Beavis and Butthead” reboot, and the resurgence later resulted in a 2015 remix of the song (though nothing beats the original.)
NOTE: VIDEO CONTAINS PROFANITY
youtube
But even with all of its popularity, T-Baby says she received so much online hate after releasing the tribute — which she intended to be a commentary on violence in the city — she took an extended hiatus from YouTube and music to avoid the negativity.
Additionally, the rapper and artist, who grew up Latonya Myles on Detroit’s east side, has never really been given much in the way of compensation or credit for her original song.
Most artists who perform or reference it do so without permission, and despite holding a copyright on the “It’s So Cold in the D” phrase, it often appears on t-shirts, mugs and even candles with little to no money going back to T-Baby.
Though she has continued to have a social media presence and create music through the years, T-Baby says she still keeps mainly to herself, and doesn’t put a lot of trust in others.
But regardless of how people feel about the song itself, T-Baby created something that most artists have a difficult time achieving: staying power.
The song is now used on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, meaning a whole new generation is discovering the viral hit.
In another 15 years, you can bet that on a freezing winter day, Detroiters will still be turning to one another and uttering the phrase, “It’s so cold in the D.”
But if we don't start to give T-Baby the credit she deserves right now...well, there's really nothing colder than that.

Tim & Eric Nite Live #12: “Return of the Eric” | March 4, 2008 | S01E12
What turned out to be the final episode of Tim & Eric Nite Live (and indeed it’s announced as the season finale despite being promised a March 11 installment) ends on a high note. But, it also unfortunately ends on a cliffhanger that can’t be resolved.
This one begins like episode 11, with a distraught Tim with a somber apology. Tim can’t keep up the facade for long; he’s pretending that Eric and him are still estranged, but his in-character bad acting betrays him. He begins laughing and announces that Eric is back! Eric enters with a parade procession in his honor with various members of Tim & Eric’s crew of misfits escorting him. Thank goodness! We get the opening sequence one last time, and it’s a good one: the celebrity AND musical guests are announced as Lindsay Lohan, and we get to see two different pictures of her, which is good because she’s maybe one of the hottest women to ever be alive. You gotta see these pics, TRUST ME.
Tim & Eric interview Dr. Linda, played by A.D. Miles, a therapist who helped Tim & Eric get back together through scream therapy. Dr. Linda has a lot of aggression bubbling under the surface. He gets increasingly annoyed when David Liebe Hart constantly interrupts with nonsense. Tim & Eric try to excuse the doctor so they can move onto other things and he refuses to leave, insisting that Tim & Eric require more work to be done. Somebody eventually removes him physically while DLH repeats “it’s over Grover, but thanks for helpin’!” Which is maybe one of the single most quotable lines from him.
In the spirit of compromise, Eric is allowed to show a video he prepared. It turns out to be the gorilla video he showed us in episode 10, with cartoon noises and audience laughter added to it. We get a little picture-in-picture of Tim and Eric’s reactions to the video. Eric is having a ball. Tim can’t hide his disdain. Before going into the next segment, Tim & Eric announce that later in the show there’s going to be a “fake quake”, where the crew pretend to be in an earthquake. DLH gets out of his seat to walk in front of them and perform his fake quake shake in a clearly unplanned moment. It’s insane how much attention this guy needs.
Coming up next is Pound for Pound with DJ Douggpound going up against a mustachioed comedian. The winner of this particular joke-off is a spin-off program on Super Deluxe. The Judges are asked to vote by either using their hands to make a mustache (to vote for the other dude) or a pair of glasses (to vote for Douggpound). Douggpound going on his extended DJ sound drop riff after delivering a mediocre joke is really funny, with the other comic sorta furrowing his brow, not sure what to make of it. Douggpound wins, and he receives his own show!!! He’s going to call it The Poundcast!!!
Just as the winner is announced, the fake quake starts. Everyone’s shaking and sliding around, but then the lights go out. We hear a gunshot. As the lights come on, we already hear DLH ruining the bit by asking if we need an “emergency prayer” and getting shushed. He won’t take the hint the first time, and actually starts banging this drum again, ruining the moment. What moment? Richard Dunn is lying dead on the ground, having been shot. There’s tense music, and shots of each cast member looking shocked. We segue into a pre-produced ending video of Richard Dunn talking to the camera, announcing that he’s been shot, inviting the viewers to ponder “who Dunn it” and that the culprit would be revealed next season. Alas, there was no next season. Nite Live’s own Richard Dunn’s murder would go unavenged, and the real-life Richard Dunn would pass away in 2010.
This concludes my coverage of Tim & Eric Nite Live. This is a great episode, and it’s good that the show roughly maintained its formula of planned-chaos and actual-train-wreck. I forgot to talk about this with the previous week’s episode, which would have been good because it was so gosh darn short; but here it goes: I’ve pointed out that this show shares DNA with On Cinema, especially in Tim playing a arrogantly buffoonish anger-prone host with a put-upon co-host. Eric isn’t too much of a Gregg, but I always had this mildly embarrassing idea about this show, which I’m going to describe in the next paragraph.
I’m a middle-aged man. I should be using my mind to imagine things like what it would be like to save money for retirement or plan for what will certainly be a diabetes-filled future, or save up for a gun for when the climate apocalypse happens and I can’t afford to move underground. But instead, I think of stuff like this: It’s mostly been stated that Tim Heidecker, the On Cinema character, is an alternate-reality Tim that never got into comedy. In my head-canon; Tim DID perform comedy with Eric Wareheim, but it all fell apart with Tim & Eric Nite Live. Episode 11 represents a branching timeline; one where Tim either reconciles with Eric (which results in this episode), or doesn’t, so this episode never happens and Tim goes onto a new racket and becomes his On Cinema self.
I’m not steeped in the On Cinema lore enough to know if they ever expressed backstory that would negate this idea. Indeed, it does make MORE sense if Tim Heidecker’s On Cinema persona never made Tim & Eric Awesome Show seasons one & two. I also wouldn’t want this to be adopted into future On Cinema storylines at all. But to me it makes enough sense, and I like the “alternate history” angle, personally. But it’s also really embarrassing to have fan theories about this shit.

The Poundcast: In the Mix (2008)
This debuted a day after this aired, so obviously the fix was in for Douggpound’s joke-off. Hey! Did you know that this is on YouTube? It looks like at one point it was made available through Super Deluxe when they attempted to revive themselves, and it’s labeled a “Super Deluxe Classic”. Anyway, this is all 5 or 6 episodes of Douggpound’s very own show. I think he’d do a better, funnier version of this later on, but I’m not sure I’ll cover all that. Nite Live is already an off-Adult Swim spin-off, and this is a spin-off of that, sorta.
I went through the trouble of finding the dates and times these were originally uploaded to the Super Deluxe website. The sixth installment might’ve been a standalone video or originally unaired or something, but I couldn’t find it on the series page on the webcrawled version of Super Deluxe I looked at. But here’s a guide as best as I can cobble together:
"Meddlers" (March 5, 2008 - 8:46AM)
"I Don't Get It" (March 12, 2008 - 8:50AM)
"M.C. World" (April 15, 2008 - 8:53AM)
"Sponsor Me Skate Video" (April 22, 2008 - 8:51AM)
"No" (April 30, 2008 - 9:12AM)
“D.J. Douggpound: The Unauthorized Love Tape” (Unknown; 2008?)
