JK Rowling didn't write Hogwarts Legacy.

Moira Squier did.

JK Rowling wrote about a short and swarthy ethnic minority legally denied the right to own certain kinds of property, excluded from most careers apart from finance, oppressed for hundreds of years but still ignored by equality activists, perceived as duplicitous and bloodthirsty, speaking a guttural language and having a culture considered inferior by mainstream society.

The film franchise gave them big hooked noses.

Moira Squier created a new character from this minority who was the victim of a brutal, life-threatening hate crime in his youth, which radicalised him against the society that oppressed his people. She wrote a narrative in which a marginalised person's resentment of their oppressors causes them to become morally corrupt, and the only "good" members of the marginalised group are the ones who can overcome that resentment. She created a story in which the protagonist must prevent a marginalised group from reclaiming their property, because doing so would make them too powerful, and that might threaten the status quo.

Troy Leavitt was the lead developer for the first several years (editing in a correction: he was only a lead designer in 2018; from 2019 through 2021 he was senior producer instead) of this game's creation. He runs a YouTube channel in which he defends cultural appropriation and Gamergate, among other things. (Editing another correction: I previously described his channel as alt-right; it turns out Leavitt explicitly rejects the alt-right movement, though he still holds various reactionary opinions.) He oversaw the design of a marginalised minority which bears an uncanny resemblance to Nazi propaganda:

It's amazing how much this situation reminds me of reporting bullying to my school administrators back in high school. I was always more of a problem for complaining than whatever other students had done to me. It was almost always a group of people who would claim I picked the fight with them after I reported what they'd done; like I'd pick a fight with multiple people when what I wanted was to be left alone. Watching @photomatt do his best to make the victim of a multi-year harassment campaign that @staff did literally nothing about out to be the bad guy for finally snapping because no one would help her is fucking pathetic. He's 100% as spineless as my old principal and just as conceited about his own take on events. You don't decide if you're being transphobic, Matt. Trans people do. You don't decide if you're being transmisogynistic. Trans women do. The entire trans community has been harassed and maligned on here for years by bad actors, and in your myopia and egocentric need to be seen as a "good person" without actually doing good things, you can't see that the issue is you and your useless fucking staff. You let the pedophile and nazi blogs hang around while we report them for violence and harm and then turn on the trans community trying to hold you accountable for standing idly by in the face of evil. on twitter, a viral thread started where people around the world shared their translations of “If I must die”, the last work of Dr Refaat Alareer also known as "the voice of Gaza". A beloved poet, teacher and life-long activist for Palestine, he was recently assassinated along with members of his extended family by a targeted Israeli air strike. His loss leaves a hole in the heart of palestinians all over the world.

I know some dickheads have now decided that Judaism is the "bad, violent, terrorist religion" and Islam is the "good, peaceful" one, which is only to be expected of white people, but how much of an issue is it currently? Like I've seen some USAmericans sharing how the Islamic faith shapes Gazans values and perseverance (good) except with that distinct white hippie "I'm about to imprint on this like the world's most racist duck" vibe (bad), but I didn't think they're already turning on Judaism in numbers.

Do they realize that Christianity is also the same kind of comfort to Christian minorities in Asia and Africa? That it was Buddhists that genocided the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Tamils in Sri Lanka? That Hindu fundamentalists are even now trying to ethnically cleanse Muslims in India? How Hindus and Christians are terrorized and persecuted in Pakistan? That Muslims have a history of persecuting and ethnically cleansing Jews too?

Really tired of asking y'all to be normal about people's religions man. There's no religion that's inherently violent or exceptionally peaceful. It's just like any other ideology that becomes a weapon in the hands of ethnic power. Interrogate power, not religion, and respect people's belief systems insofar as they aren't in your business.

Edit: I've amended the "long history" of Muslim persecution of Jews because it might be misleading in the current political climate. Zionism and antisemitic Arab nationalism are twin births resulting directly from Christian colonization, and Islamic empires tended to actually be more tolerant of other religions compared to Christianity, especially Judaism, which was considered a sibling religion. Antisemitism wasn't ideologically entrenched in Islamic tradition. It's simply that ethno-religious power will lead to ethno religious domination and intermittent cleansing of minorities, and Islam is no exception. Humans be humaning always.

hi, so yes you may have already seen this posted to my account, and you're probably wondering "why is she posting this again?" (unless you already saw the mistake)...

i do in fact have one and a half brain cells and it took a friend to point out the mistake to me to realize i had put the same aspiration for 3 generations... oh boy...

Yesterday I felt horrible. People were only doing the bare minimum of acknowledging the hate I've been trying to address for the past year, and I was receiving violent anonymous death-wishes.

Today I feel much better specifically because so many people have been joining the Hogwarts Legacy conversation. There are thousands of notes on those posts instead of just a handful of my Jewish mutuals, which is usually all I get.
