Thoughts on the 3rd ep of Hypmic Rhyme Anima+. Spoilers beware
Season 1 | Ep.1 | Ep.2 |
i love how its samatoki who tsks when ichiro talks, they never stop and i love it fuugen looking dude still has a great design love the fact that they kept the Ramuda is scared of ghosts plotline ww TBH is a silly name DJ or not, but it does tie in some ARB lore eyyy joint mission! does that mean that nagoya and oosaka will be enemies? might be and interesting naughty busters and MCD interactions OFC theres gonna be some good good ichiro/kuko and samatoki/sasara KUKOOO I LOVE YOU the kinshachi! love those little dudes, they're tiger-headed dolphins lol JYUSHIIII you chuuni dork i love your flowery wordss Mr. Kuko wwwwwwww nooo amandaaaa so ripped up oh more visual kei!! i am so happyyy www this villain is so silly i love silly villains. how unfortunate that they'll be plot slaves but they genuinely had something fun going on awww look a kuko being silly and amagani being a silly lawyer LETS GOOO JAKUHITOOO eyyyyy lets go grandmaaaa the MVP of repairing Ichikuko relationship lets gooo naughty butters!!!!! i love themmmm were they also a influence ichiro to get onto the right track? thats sweet ofc they had to tie in different characters together still love that sun shadowing them the moment they talk about the villains the squeakkkkkkkkkkk amanda thats so cuuteeeeee awww no magical girl transformation? rip -
Damn the imagery on this MV goes super hard i love the non-traditional stuff you'll find scattered around at a glance the ones i spot are: buhddist funeral rites with from, what i can count 39 candles which can mean thank you… those funeral flowers look like white chrysanthemums (grief, honesty, truth which the later two may be nods to the fact that they're not in their right minds), pink, and purple carnations which symbolize capaciousness and unpredictability Kuko also references gokurakujoudo which is the most well known higher buddhist celestial land known as the land of bliss so basically he's saying that he's so hot shit that he'll reincarnate into the holiest of holy lands Ragnarok is the end of the known gods according to nordic mythology aside from like. two gods and two humans which means either Jyushi is a ghost as shown in the scene or he's just that cool and survived Kuko's second verse is a reference to old paintings that depicted monks training their spiritual disciplines by mountainsides. if you're an old soul like me, think Libra Dohko's Mnt. Roshi Hitoya's second rap scene is mimicking an egyptian depiction of a weighing of the heart, specifically it seems to be parodying the scene found in the Papyrus of Hunefer. interestingly, the three opponents are on the side in which the feather of maat is commonly depicted on, the thing which the heart is weighed against while Amanda is the heart Hitoya and Kuko's spots on the papyrus is where anubis would be, setting them as the judges who preside over this battle. Jyushi is also sitting where Ammit, the devour of the dead, would be depicted sitting. Ammit is also a goddess, which is fun Given the red moon behind him, Jyushi also plays at a fallen angel The chorus' first scene is another very famous generic buhdist scene. while i don't think it references anything specifically, the three sitting on lotus flowers and the bodhi tree's in the back implies that they are buddah. like no joke, they are actually buddha don't know if this is actually a reference, but the red hell-like place that the three find themselves in might be Sañjīva, one of the buddhist naraka's where those who are reincarnated there are born fully grown and are attacked by other people and monsters return of the kinshachi! kaleidoscopic imagery which is also heavily associated with buddhist imagery That ending is a reference to the spider's thread by ryunosuke akutaguwa! you might remember it if you've played Danganronpa V3 but its a story about a man trying to escape from hell from a spider thread but ultimately falls back into hell because of his greed - that Obaaachannnn is so cute. and the bait and switch was so silly Kuko as always is just the absolute star of the show even if the spotlight isn't on him Huh???? Are Doppo and Hifumi okay???? Please??? you can't just cliffhang that???? how dareeee
Badass Temple endingg lets gooooo Kuko verson is so cute!!! that illust tooo Jyushi is just so stylish and silly, treading that fine line. also is that just water in his champagne glass www this is such a fun ending version i love it. Its just a lot warmer and more comforting in my opinion, super sweet and heartwarming. a lot more electric guitar as well
I'm so glad for their first feature episode I really enjoyed BAT! The song was such a banger and the imagery along with it so evocative. I really liked the episode how it brought everyone together for a chaotic jaunt. I hope next week with dotsuhompo will be just as silly

hcs for tdd with an s/o who leads her own division?
Tumblr media
ichiro;
○ at first, ichiro is absolutely thrilled over this news. you two sharing one of his biggest passions fills him with such crazy amounts of joy it almost feels like a dream. he’s already planning out joint battles, practice times, lyric writing sessions-
○ that is, until it hits him that you two might have to face off in the division rap battle. on one hand, if he throws the battle he’d be letting his brothers down and you might get upset that he didn’t give it his all. on the other, it might crush you to lose and in a worst case scenario, give up on your division
○ he’d have a heart-to-heart with you about how his words during battle don’t mean anything and he doesn’t want it to put a strain on your relationship. it’s hard for people to view him as just ichiro and not ichiro from the dirty dawg or ichiro from buster bros, he values the authenticity in your relationship and isn’t about to let it go this soon (or ever, if he can help it)
samatoki;
○ against it in every way, shape and form. he sees it in a different light than you do, though. he’s used to the dark and gritty way of living in yokohama that he can’t help but assume you’re in serious danger being in a division, nevermind leading one
○ the problem with this is the fact he doesn’t really know how to voice it in a way that doesn’t come off as condescending. when he had told you he “didn’t think you were cut out for rap battles,” you got pissed off and ignored him for a few days (he called and apologized when jyuto told him he couldn’t have worded that in a worse possible way.)
○ they’ll be a lot of back and forth with this one. your tenacity and stubbornness is one of the reasons he loves you, but it’s not working in his favor this time. he so desperately wants you to see his point of view and wish you knew that he worries himself sick everytime you come home slightly late. the thought of someone getting revenge on you for beating them in a battle... he doesn’t think he could deal with the reality of it happening
ramuda;
○ having some friendly competition never hurt, did it? ramuda is much less of a die-hard than the other two when it comes to rap battles and doesn’t really see an issue with you being a division leader. as long as you have enough time for him, then he’s just going with the flow
○ he doesn’t expect the thrill that washes over him the first time you two battle against each other. this savage side of you has been hidden from his view, and it’s exhilarating to finally see. he wants to rip it from you and analyze it even more, figure out what makes you tick in this way
○ after the battle is all said and done, ramuda coddles you and gushes over how amazing it was to see you go all out. regardless of if you lost or not, ramuda finds a way to make it less upsetting for either of you. he finally has a grasp on what it means to be happy and the emptiness inside him grows smaller day by day, he won’t let that feeling go over something like a division battle

Horsemen of the Apocalypse! AU
Horseman of the apocalypse get reborn as hypnosis mic characters. Jiro as Pestilence, Dice as Famine, Rio as War, and Jakurai as Death.
I wrote this while mildly sleep-deprived, so sorry for the not great grammar that may or may not appear.
Pestilence
When Jiro was born, it was a celebration, a joyous occasion of new life entering this world.
For Jiro though? Pestilence screamed at the top of his lungs, confused and baffled by the turn of events. Just moments before, he had been wandering around the empty plains in northern America, peacefully waiting until the he was called again to usher in another apocalypse.
Growing up a second time is... daunting to say the least. While Pestilence's now-parents weren't in the picture anymore (and curse his soft heart for still loving the man who'd loved them then left them), Pestilence now had two brothers, one older and one younger.
Pestilence learns to love Ichiro and Saburo, learns to laugh and fight and love. It's so very much different then his relationship with the other harbingers. It had been difficult to truly love the others, Death with his aloofness, War with his wildness, and Famine with his cruelty. But even so... a part of Pestilence yearned for them, yearned for his kin.
In a funny twist of fate, Pestilence Jiro ends up meeting Famine ("Arisugawa Dice," the man murmurs in between pachinko machines, a look of wildness in his eyes that had never been there before) first. Dice, he calls himself now, and quietly tells Famine Dice his ("Yamada Jiro"). There's no fireworks, no bursting emotions, nothing. To the world, it's just another day, but to Jiro... it means everything and more to know that they are here too. That Pestilence is not alone.
Jiro doesn't end up meeting either War or Death until the rap battles (and isn't that a strange thought in itself? man, he thinks, humans were weird). War, he finds is every bit as intimidating as before, human or not. A former veteran, and how fitting is that? In the end, they part ways before the battle without exchanging names, exchanging confirmations of each others identities, but that was okay. Jiro knew. And so did Busujima Rio.
Death on the other hand... Well, people can't say that Death doesn't have a sense of humor any more, Jiro supposes. Long grey and lavender hair and a kind, gentle demeaner, Death presented himself as a saint, as a holy man. It was strange, to say the least. Jinguji Jakurai, Jiro knew, was anything but. Death may be kind, but it was also callous and cold. Uncaring.
The world continues turning, the cogs of fate continue to work. Jiro doesn't know why the world had decided to snatch him from his peaceful wandering and thrust him into this strange, strange situation, but he would wait. Sure, it was strange to be able to move around populated areas without spreading diseases, but Jiro could be content for now.
The apocalypse would come eventually, and Jiro would ride alongside the others to usher it, just like he'd done countless millennia before. There was no need to rush. If nothing else, the harbingers had patience in spades and were no strangers to waiting.
(There is a small niggling of doubt in the back of his mind. What of Ichiro? What of Saburo? If the apocalypse truly came in their lifetime... could Jiro truly usher their deaths? Would he be able to spread diseases and doing his duty without hesitating? Could he truly watch them die?)
Famine
Arisugawa Dice was not born as Arisugawa Dice. That is a fact of life. But despite what others thought, Tohoten Daisuke Dice was not born originally as his mother's child either.
Famine snarled as best as he could at his so-called 'mother.' It was rather difficult as a baby, but he managed. The women flinched back, as if struck, but soon calmed herself, delusioning herself that her so-called child was just that. A child. Famine inwardly sniggered, but kept his face blank.
It was annoying, being a small human. It's not too bad though, to be free of his duties as a harbinger, free of the expectations that the others brought with them. As time passed, observing the woman who constantly hovered and the man that was rarely ever there soon became routine in his new life. Famine does not care though. Famine is cruel and cold and uncaring. There is no love nor hope nor mercy in a famine after all.
It's not until he's a bit older, a bit wiser, and a bit more human that he realizes, oh. Maybe he did love this human woman, this mother of his. That, even as he snarled and clawed at the man who dared to call himself Famine's father, he might just be able to love and care for another being. That his righteous and protective anger may have just been triggered by this mother of his.
The truth of the matter, though, is that Arisugawa Dice's first love is not his mother. He might not have realized it at the time, and it would take years upon years before he would realize the love that came to be, that made him human, was first born from his love of dice and gambling. That same love would soon take over his life, leaving him a gambling addict and so, so very much like the human he despised.
Famine spent little time thinking of his kin. The truth of the matter is that they were not close, each one content on doing their own thing. It's not until he runs into Pestilence ("My name," a pair of young eyes quietly watched the pachinko machine twist and turn, "is Yamada Jiro.") that it comes to the forefront of his mind. If Pestilence was here... there was a good change War and Death were here too. It's strange and discontenting to think about, after spending so many years thinking that he was free.
He ends up meeting War as a part of Amemura Ramuda's meddling. They are a team now, Fling Posse, and well, it's interesting. They're fun and even though Dice sometimes wanted to wring Ramuda's neck, sometimes wanted to toy with Gentaro until the man broke, he held back. Arisugawa Dice was not cruel like Famine. He was an idiot gambling addict.
War ("Busujima Rio," War's uncharacteristically serious and quiet tone takes him off guard. It's strange and Famine hates it.) is so, so very different from before. Dice mentally compares the wild and loud War with the quietness and stillness of Busujima Rio and finds it lacking. There are parts of War still in Rio, Dice can't deny that, but it comes in small bits and pieces and rarely. War, Dice finds, has grown tired of war. How ironic.
If Dice found War ironic, Death was even more so. Ramuda wasn't incorrect in finding the so-called saintly doctor of Shinjuku a hypocrite. It's nothing short of a surprise in finding out that Death ("Jinguji Jakurai," Death smiles, and for a second, Dice wonders if he's in hell, "A pleasure to meet you, Arisugawa-kun.") is a doctor of all things. A doctor known for saving many people, as a person who brought life and not death. It's slightly terrifying, but if Death enjoyed it, Dice squinted, then more power to him, he supposed.
Time goes on. Things change and grow and die, an endless cycle. If Dice happened to wonder why they'd all been dragged in to this world, he never says it out loud. In some ways, it's strange to be a another normal being and not a bringer of misfortune. In others, it's frustrating being so weak and fragile now. But Dice was content. He had his mother and gambling. He had his posse.
The apocalypse would approach eventually and Dice was fine with waiting. He'd spent much of life waiting in the past and now would be no different. He had been born to usher the apocalypse and that was what he would do.
(There's a quietness in his mind that shows up on his bad days, when he gambles away everything. It's a quietness that reminds him that if the apocalypse ever shows up, it won't be him who dies. It'll be his mother. It'll be Ramuda and Gentaro. It's an unsettling thought, and so he pushes it away, hidden for another day.)
War
War is born into a family a veterans. Each one of them have fought battles, both out in the field and the ones in their minds. To them, they were battles worth fighting and they present their scars proudly to the world.
Busujima Rio, they call him, and he accepts that name just like he's accepted the countless other ones that he's worn to battle. In truth, it's not war that he loves the most, it's the thrill and adrenaline. He grows up a second time as rambunctious and energetic as the first from countless millennia ago, a spitfire in human clothing, as some would call it.
It's not until he's older that Rio starts to lose his enthusiasm for war. He fights in a pointless war, another meaningless battle in the vast field of other meaningless battles in the course of history. He watches his brothers-in-arms lose hope, lose their lives, and wonders. How ironic, he thinks, for War to lose interest in war.
It's there that he meets Death, Death who is oh-so-beautiful and ethereal. Death has always been beyond human grasp and untouchable, and in his human skin, Jinguji Jakurai is even more so. Rio watches with wide eyes and disbelief as Death hurries around in the medical bay, saving and healing as many soldiers as he could, his fellow doctors working alongside him to do the same.
Meeting Death was an experience in itself, and also a reminder that the other harbingers also existed. War had rarely ever thought of the others, though War had been more prone to run into the others, it was merely in passing. In the end, he doesn't meet the others until years later, not until Division Rap Battles begin and the start of the H era.
When Japan is called back from the war, Rio moves away from society. Maybe it's because he's so human now, maybe it's because he's seen to many good men try and fail for their ideals, but Rio is tired. He's tired of noise, of people, and of fighting. He watches as his former platoon fight against the new government and instinctively already knows that they will fail. The itch of war has not returned and Japan will remain peaceful for some time yet, Rio knows.
When Mad Trigger Crew is formed, Rio spends little time thinking about it. His agreement comes from the small, aching desire for fighting that War always felt, albeit now overshadowed by Rio's exhaustion. Samatoki and Jyuto, Rio finds, are entertaining. Their personalities clash, but both are so very easy to rile up. If Rio happened to just terrify them into submission via his so-called 'survival cooking,' well, that was no one's business.
Funnily enough, Rio meets Famine on accident. The man is wandering around, hungry and lost. Famine ("Arisugawa Dice," Famine grins, so much more wild and somehow just as viscous as always, "Nice ta meet 'cha!") has always been a bit more cruel then the others, but there's a wildness in his eyes that wasn't there before. Rio quietly feeds him and sends him on his way, neither commenting on how different War is now. Dice is unnerved, Rio knows, but chooses to ignore it. If the man asked, Rio would answer, but until then, he would stay silent.
He doesn't meet Pestilence until the rap battles, and even then, Jyuto is with him and Pestilence has another boy with him, his younger brother if Samatoki is to believed. Pestilence had always been the kindest of all of them, and now in a human skin, Rio sees that Jiro is no different. Fighting him on the battlefield of the rap battles will be fun, he thinks. In the end, they don't exchange names, they don't confirm identities, but that's okay. The harbingers would always recognize each other, and now was no different.
The world marches on. Rio never says it out loud, never mentions it to the others, but oftentimes, he wonders why they were dragged into this soft world. There is no need to fight for one's survival or a constant war to fight. It's peaceful. It's a bit strange, to be surrounded by nature and calmness rather then war and bloodshed, but Rio is happy. Rio was happy with his little campsite, with knowing the others are fine, with Mad Trigger Crew.
When the apocalypse comes - when, not if - Rio would return to his role as War. It was his duty and purpose. He would usher in the apocalypse like he'd done so many times before.
(The one bad thing about the quietness of the forest is that Rio cannot distract himself from his doubts. Could he truly usher the apocalypse during Samatoki and Jyuto's lifetime, should it come? Could he really stand aside and watch as they died? If they died from war, the war that the apocalypse always brought with it, the war that War would incite, Rio wasn't sure he could ever forgive himself.)
Death
Jinguji Jakurai was born into the darkness of the underworld. It's nothing new to Death, the cruelty of humans, and while amusing at times, it is nothing surprising. They teach the newly reborn Death the best ways to kill a person, to take out targets without hesitation. Death knows that his casual indifference to killing is unnerving to many, especially in a child's body, but he does not care.
The truth is, Death is indifferent. Whether mortals were to live or die, Death does not care. They fear what they do not know, but Death has always been. It can be patient and it can be callous, but in the end, Death can be kind. Jinguji Jakurai cuts down his targets with ruthless efficiency, as painless and quick as possible.
It's not until he's a bit older that he begins to meet humans again, begins to be reminded why humans were so fascinating. Each one so different and fragile in their own ways, Death quietly fell in love. Death's love couldn't truly be called love though, and neither did he ever call it that, but it's then that for once, Death choses to save these mortal lives instead of reaping them. (Jinguji Jakurai writes down on his high school career form that he wanted to be a doctor. Beside him, Amaguni Hitoya does the same, but for completely different reasons.)
Death had always known that the other harbingers were reborn as well, as his domain over death extended a bit to rebirth as well. He leaves them be though, for there is no apocalypse and therefore no reason to interact with the others. It's not until he sees War again during the war that they're actually closer then he thought they were. Busujima Rio, Jakurai sees, may be War, but becoming human has changed the being. It's actually a rather exciting realization, for none of the others had ever truly been mortal before. Not like Death. Jakurai felt a spark of interest in seeing what had become of the others for the first time since before their rebirth.
After the war, after the change in eras, Jakurai is left wandering Shinjuku. The TDD had broken apart, and feeling emotions that he could only describe as hurting, Jakurai meets Doppo and Hifumi. It's... strange. He forms Matenrou, creates a place for them, smile unwavering and kind. He knows what they call him, what the world calls him (saint, kind, holy) and the irony of it all is oh-so very amusing.
He sees Pestilence and Famine again during the rap battles. Pestilence, Jakurai notes, are as kind and sad as ever, fittingly in a body of a child for their gentlest member. Pestilence may have brought pain and drawn-out sadness, but in the end, the boy was the kindest and most understanding of the all (after all, he was one of the lepers, of the outcasts).
Famine on the other hand is just as different as War is now. Maybe even more so, Jakurai muses. The harbinger was now more wild, more playful then before. As he watched Famine taunt and play around with the other members of his division, Jakurai finds himself glad that the boy had found himself to belong, even if it was with Amemura Ramuda.
They're all unnerved by his profession, Jakurai sees, and it amuses him quite a bit. Maybe he is a little bit tired of only taking the lives of mortals. Maybe he does find a bit of sadistic joy in knowing that it was Death that saved their lives, but in the end, Jakurai wasn't spilling. It mattered none to him, because after all, all mortal beings will return to death, whether they fear him or not. Death could patiently wait his turn, for Jakurai would save as many lives as he could.
Life moves on. Time marches forward. Humans are born and others die, but Jakurai continues doing what he knows. There's a bit of wonder sometimes, if this was the doing of a higher being, if the fates was setting something in motion, but Jakurai ignored the thought. If it was truly the work of the fates, then things will happen when it happened, whether he wanted it or not. He was content with Matenrou, content with his job. Jakurai would take his happiness where he could.
Death was constant and Jakurai would always exist as long as there was death. The apocalypse might appear one day, it might not, but it did not matter to him. He would do his duty as he had done so since the beginning of time.
(Jakurai closes his eyes to the possibility of losing Doppo and Hifumi. Death was inevitable, but some came sooner then later. He might not know if he could truly reap their souls should their time come too early, but should they live long, happy lives, he would send them off to the next world with a smile. Death is inevitable, Death is unavoidable, and in the end, Death is patient. Everyone will die one day and Jakurai would patiently wait for when life ceased to exist. And then Death too, would finally die.)

Luis' Thoughts on Division Leaders
Tumblr media
Ichiro Yamada
"I know Ichiro. The guy's a good man. Truthfully, I can see a lot of myself in him. Both of us didn't really have parents in our lives, so we had to make our own way. Maybe the next time he's in Aoyama, I'll invite him to eat at my restaurant. The guy deserves it after everything he's done for his division and younger brothers."
Samatoki Aohitsugi
*Takes a puff of his cigarette* "Samatoki... yeah, I know him, as well, though I really wish I didn't. This guy has a serious attitude problem. I don't know if it's cause he has to prove himself to his Yakuza members or what, but he always seems to be in a foul mood. He really needs to calm down and stop blaming others for his shortcomings."
Ramuda Amemura
"Don't tell either of them I said this, but this guy reminds me of my teammates. None of them refuse to act their age. But besides that, I see a lot of his clothes here in Aoyama. Unfortunately, none of them are my size." *Shrugs*
"Other than that, I don't really have anything negative about Ramuda. But... I don't know why, but I always seem to be on my guard around him. I don't know why. Every time I walk past him, my defenses instantly go up. It's weird..." *Takes another puff of his cigarette*
Jakurai Jinguji
"Sad as it is to say, Jakurai is the only member of TDD that I haven't really spoken to. I wish I had when I had the chance. No offense to the other members, but Jakurai seems to be the only one who really knows what he's doing. One look at this man can tell you that he's an intelligent person. No surprise that he won the first D.R.B. And don't tell anyone this, but I'd hate to go up against one-on-one in a rap battle..."
Sasara Nurude
"I've never really had a sense of humor, believe it or not. I mean, I laugh at things sometimes, but that's mainly cause I'm remembering something that happened in the past. Anyway, I happen to go to one of Sasara's shows when he came here to Aoyama. I really tried to get into his jokes, but they just seemed to go over my head. I don't know. Maybe my sense of humor is different from everyone else's... or maybe it really is nonexistent..."
Kuko Harai
"When I was younger, my Abuela took me to the countryside to take a tour of some of the temples and the monks that live in them. I have to admit, I was really fascinated at their lifestyle. The focus that each of them had on their faces as they meditated, and went about their duties. Words couldn't do it justice.
"So imagine my disappointment when I found out that a real-live monk was actually a rapper. This guy did not meet my expectations at all. And the fact that he and his team lost against Jakurai's team just deepened my dislike for him." *Sighs and stubs out his cigarette*

⭐Fluff Alphabet: B⭐
B – Before (How did they act before the relationship/what was the relationship like?)
BUSTER BROS
Yamada Ichiro
You and Ichiro had been friends since he was in the orphanage, someone he’d always confided his worries in and who’d been there for him through a lot of the troubles he faced in life. You were someone he was always fond of and might’ve had a bit of ‘love at first sight’ with but he never acted on it as he was just too busy taking care of his brothers to worry about a relationship. You’d been close, practically family, for a long time before he finally knew he had to stop denying how he really felt and ask you out (hoping you’d feel the same so your relationship wouldn’t have to be awkward).
Yamada Jiro:
Jiro had seen you here and there, thought you were cute, but had never really thought too much about it. He had trouble talking to you and couldn’t think of any common topics at first so he felt the relationship was just doomed to fail but it didn’t mean you didn’t invade his dreams constantly to the point his crush on you persisted even after the two of you had stopped talking. He’s flustered when you suddenly pop up in his life and make the extra effort to get to know him, not letting him chicken out like he did before; he can’t help but match your energy, hoping that maybe fate is what had intervened and brought you back into his life.
Yamada Saburo
Your friendship with Saburo was almost exclusively online for a bit as you helped him help Ichiro out a few times with hunting down things on the internet, sometimes teasing him that he only ever came to you when he needed help. He was too nervous to ask to meet you in person and when he finally did to get a particularly sensitive piece of information, he wished that your relationship had just stayed online. What Saburo felt for you was too complicated for him to put into words as he feels like perhaps it was just his deep admiration for your intelligence and skills that made him feel the way he did about you but in the end, he was quickly figured out what he was actually feeling.
MAD TRIGGER CREW
Aohitsugi Samatoki
You weren’t even sure Samatoki liked you as a person considering how hostile he seemed to be, ignoring all your teasing (and especially you’re flirting) to keep business moving along. Yet, he always stopped to talk to you whenever he spotted you even if he acted like you were the single most annoying person he’d ever met and he seemed to take personal offense if someone unintentionally looked at you wrong. Even though your teasing does make him roll his eyes he doesn’t mind it that much as it’s clear you’re not actually making fun of him and sometimes, you can be funny even if he won’t admit it out loud. You’re the type of person he naturally feels like he has to protect which is where his fondness was born from and how his feelings for you ended up escalating to what they were now.
Iruma Jyuto
Jyuto was always polite but you couldn’t help but feel he kept you at a comfortable distance, never getting too personal and keeping most of his life to himself; he did have a deep distaste of when others pointed out his shady behavior in front of you, trying to keep his image as ‘clean’ as he could but knowing it’d all come to light eventually. You can tell Jyuto puts a little extra effort into how he looks when he knows you’ll be around and you enjoy seeing the man preen for you, suspecting it’s not something he did for others very often even if he was rather well put together normally.
Rio Mason Busujima
Rio was a friendly face that popped into your life every now and again, with you knowing he was someone you could lean on or unload your troubles on without much judgment coming your way. You found yourself making your way to his little campsite more as you grew more attached to his company, knowing he liked it when he could cook and take care of others. Rio was always polite and never brought up touchy subjects, but once he’d become part of the rap battles, you’d started to worry about him a little more and made the extra effort to check in on him. Rio noticed your worry for him and felt guilty about making you worry but he’d faced tough opponents before so he had no intention of backing down, simply thanking you and letting you know your care for him was appreciated.
FLING POSSE
Amemura Ramuda
Ramuda flirted with any cute person that came in his path and you were no different, putting an extra bit of attention on you; he bothered you at work, when you were out with friends, he seemed to have a constant radar that detected where you were at all times. You saw him as a lovable nuisance for the most part but rejecting his flirting, sometimes giving in but not entirely in the way he wanted, made him want you even more. Treating him like a person and not just a sex object certainly goes a long way to making Ramuda see you as a little something more and once his feelings for you are solidified in his heart, he cools it with his flirting (but not with his clinginess).
Yumeno Gentaro
You wished you knew what you were to Gentaro but he seemed to purposely keep you in the dark about that, consistently telling others you were his sister, his cousin, an acquaintance, a fair-weather friend- even you were confused about what your relationship actually was up until you confronted him about it. His lies were annoying to deal with and you wondered if you really wanted to suffer with not knowing what the truth was your entire life but you enjoyed his company enough that you were willing to overlook the glaring character flaw. He made up for it with a cute confession at least.
Arisugawa Dice
You felt like Dice’s parent most of the time as you offered him a safe place to stay and food to survive, with him always quite thankful that you take care of him, enough that he even helps around the house every once in a while. He’s fiercely protective of you because of this friendship and he’s a naturally loyal person, always looking out for your well-being and trying to not overstay his welcome. He finds he simply likes being around you which is why you’re his first choice for whenever he needs a place to stay.
MATENRO
Jinguji Jakurai
Jakurai’s true friends were few a far in-between not just because of his current job (or his former one) but because he was always busy doing this or that, especially now that he had his own Hypnosis Mic. So the fact that he even made time to see you, getting lunch or simply meeting in the park to catch up, meant you were someone who was very special to the hardworking doctor. He called you every now and again to check in that you were doing well despite the fact you crossed his mind daily, worried about pulling you into his dangerous life but also craving the intimacy of having a deeper relationship with you.
Izanami Hifumi
You rarely, if ever, saw Hifumi outside the club and when you did he was always wearing his jacket which made you think he was constantly at work; it threw you off as you wondered if he just saw you as a customer or if he thought of you as a genuine friend. He makes the effort to see you outside of work more when you bring the subject up but he can’t entirely abandon his coat if you identify as female, slowly getting more comfortable with the idea until one day he shows up jacket free. You don’t know what it means but he seems quite proud, a bit jumpier than normal, but still overly excited to see you.
Kannonzaka Doppo
The two of you had bonded over an office dinner that neither of you had wanted to attend, Doppo confiding in you his misery while you giggled at how far down the rabbit hole his self-deprecation could get. When you told him you enjoyed his company more than anyone else at works it was like an arrow to the heart and even if it was foolish, Doppo could at least get lost in the thought of actually having a significant other. Work seemed a little bit brighter when you were there and he’d even taken up to having lunch with you (when he didn’t have to work through it).
BAD ASS TEMPLE
Harai Kuko
Kuko, after very blatantly checking you out and even offering up a compliment, begins a conversation that truly goes down in history as one of the funniest things in your life. You’d never suspected he’d be a monk due to his overall appearance and attitude but you find he’s quite insightful, a good friend to have by your side when life got tough. Reaching out to him for advice feels natural at this point and you’d even gone to the temple a few times to bother him on your off days, with Kuko shirking his duties from time to time to visit you in return. It wasn’t any surprise that the two of you ended up dating as anyone who saw you interact would see it coming from a mile away.
Aimono Jyushi
Jyushi had admired you from afar for a long time, having known you since middle school but never feeling confident enough to approach you despite the things you had in common. You had always been friendly to him and had seemed quite guilty that you couldn’t protect him from his bullies, even profusely apologizing once you met again after graduation. He held nothing against you and from that point on you seemed to have an easy time talking with him, checking in on him, attending his concerts, doing everything you could to support him when he needed you to. His crush came back full force even as an adult and it left him even more determined to leave behind his crybaby status as you deserved someone who could stand up for you without shedding a tear.
Amaguni Hitoya
Hitoya had plenty of people come and go in life but even after that first chance meeting with you, he couldn’t get you out of his head; for an old man to fall so hard felt a little pathetic on his part but he just continued on with life as normal. He treated you like he would anyone else, looking out for you when he could, taking you out for dinner and drinks when he had a free weekend, normal adult things that you’d do with adult friends (the place where he desperately tried to keep you despite his romantic interest). He valued your friendship highly and considers you someone he can trust with his life.
DOTSUITARE HOMPO
Nurude Sasara
You were friends before he rose to fame and though you’d fallen out of touch after he started to grow busier, he could always pick your face out of the crowd when he performed; he’d make an effort to find you after shows but you always seemed to disappear or he’d get sidetracked, but when he did manage to find you he always took you out to catch up. He feels a connection and understanding with you even if you constantly shoot down his puns as unfunny and there’s a certain relief he has at being around you, knowing he could be himself without fear of you calling him annoying or overwhelming.
Tsutsujimori Rosho
You were the friend of a friend, someone connected to Sasara who he hadn’t really had any interaction with aside from in a group setting. He thought you were nice enough but he never read too deeply into it until he found himself talking to you alone, finding you were a bit of a different person when not around your own friends (not that he could blame you for that). Your relationship is still distant but friendly for a long time, with Rosho always being pleasantly surprised when you popped up while he was out with Sasara, the teasing from his longtime friend being the first clue that maybe he felt a little something more for you than friendship.
Amayado Rei
Rei is always out and about, never minding his own business, so it’s no surprised you ended up meeting him at a bar where he was seemingly gathering information from. You hadn’t thought much of him when he bought you a drink but he had his own charm to him, especially with how he didn’t bullshit what he wanted out of you (at first). Your relationship had always been a rocky one as it was far too easy to argue with the cocky man but he always seemed to warn you when danger was around the corner and came to you when interesting things were happening around town, claiming it was simply more info gathering though you suspected he wanted something else (which, to be fair, you were also wrong about as you hadn’t thought he of all people would be romantically interested in you in a thousand years).

Not me thinking of repercussions of Doppo’s rap ability. C’mon, it’s one of the few ones that have a drawback. I guess you could argue Dice and Samatoki’s do too but...those two kinda live for the shit their abilities take to use. Doppo...not so much.
But I think there was a reason for Jakurai and Hifumi being insistent on him not losing his temper. Since they’ve worked and probably been on the receiving end of his ability before...they should know what it does. And while on one hand, I do think it’s just so Doppo doesn’t end up taking himself out and possibly not taking ANYONE with him...yet there’s another reason to restrain it.
Because in the end, they’re here to win. Anything they are able to do should be used. If that’s the case, why would your purposely disadvantage yourself by disallowing a rap ability? Especially knowing ALL your opponents in the semis and finals have them?  I actually had to go back and reread to check but Jakurai DID tell the team overall to not overexert themselves which both Doppo and Hifumi refused because...yeah, they’re out here to try to win. So giving any less than everything is not acceptable. But despite accepting this, in the fight against MTC, they tried to keep him from going for his literal all out.
And that’s likely because even if they want to win, neither Jakurai nor Hifumi are willing to endanger Doppo over it. Jakurai said his emotions make control difficult and take a toll on his spirit...which isn’t quite defined in the hypmic world. It is brought up though since Ichiro was warning the mook about using a bunch of illegal mics at once and it affecting him. And looking at the rules of the DRB, there IS knockout by physical or mental means. So I’m going to assume that the spirit ties into more mental side. And so when Doppo was knocked out, it was a mental toll not because of physical draining.
But if that’s the case...how does it affect him mentally? Like yeah, we watched it bring him to unconsciousness but that’s in its most extreme cases. Does it agitate his already sensitive mental state? Does it give him like headaches and the like? Could it end up doing tricks of the mind on him? But the one thing I did wonder is...would prolong use put him danger?  Like he obviously recovered pretty quickly but also consider that Doppo is still pretty ‘young’ at the rap game unlike the Dirty Dawg guys and based off MTR’s pre-battle talk, they didn’t use their abilities UNTIL the DRB because a) their opponents didn’t have any and b) Jakurai asked them to keep it quiet. So he only would’ve used Berserk in practice with his team...which I don’t think Jakurai would let him use it to the full extent and in the fights, where anything could happen.
If he continued competing or if he just used his ability in bursts often, would that end up piling up on his psyche and do something, I wonder? It seems like the worst is unconsciousness but I could see it gets worse the more Doppo does it. And that risk is not something the other members wouldn’t even entertain. Especially not Jakurai. He already has one comatose loved one, he don’t need another.

Emiko Akaibara ♥️
Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out, but it’s not going away. - Elvis Presley

She dons a white short sleeved blouse with puffy sleeves & a light pink skirt: short front long back with white frill. Over that is a skirt layer with a powder blue Cheshire Cat face. For accessories: she wears red rose earrings, a black choker, black beaded bracelet, white lace stockings, & pink lolita boots.

Hypnosis Microphone
Emiko’s microphone is a blue megaphone, with various stickers, tied with a red bow at the handle. Her speakers take shape of white roses with dripping red paint and a blue teapot.
Her rap ability, Allure, nullifies both an opponent’s senses and strength. In a cheerful drunken-like state, they are unable to attack or think clearly.
Her rap themes revolve around her goal for happiness and radiate high energy. While her feelings play a big role in her lyrics, she resembles the style of a pop idol with her love for cute things and snaps back with childish taunts.
Personality
Emiko is a naturally kindhearted person: while she has a strong belief in justice, she can’t help but feel sympathy. Loyal to boot, she is protective of those she cares for and won’t take their anything concerning them lightly. While normally socially confident, she finds it easy to get along with others and her amiability is very useful for getting information as well. Although few times has she used her cute looks to get her way.
Her energy resembles that of a small child, cheerfully clingy to others, and she is not above using puppy eyes to get affection either. However, that is merely Emiko’s behavior and is very emotional. She does try to hide this part of herself in tough situations due to troublesome issues in the past. But she tries to appear tough even when she’s failing miserably.
Background
Emiko was mostly raised by her delinquent older brother, Kazue Akaibara, due to an unreliable mother. Emiko took care of him as well because of his poor health and weak body. However, her brother’s passing resulted from being jumped in a Mic battle.
Trivia
She’s afraid of bees.
She’s terrible at video games.
She’s interested in children’s anime, but only because they’re cute.

HypMic 3rd Western Poll May 2020
Tumblr media
Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 3rd HypMic unofficial Western fandom poll. After a month of work on this, we’ve got some estimates for general fandom opinions. Do you agree with the general opinions, or disagree? Let us know!
Please click the read more to view our results!
The sample size was limited to 1000 votes, giving a rough indication of the demographic of consumers outside of Japan as well as opinions. The word ‘Western’ has been used, but we have opened this poll to those who were able to read enough English to understand this poll. As such, it is considerably Euro/American-centric.
This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll.
Results will be posted on Twitter and Tumblr.
THE CONSUMPTION OF HYPMIC
This section is to be read as ‘What percentage of HypMic English fans have consumed x media?’ The drama tracks and songs have been split by album. Manga bonuses have not been included in the first two questions as at the time of this poll the 2nd Manga songs/dramas were being released so it would be unfair to add them to the poll.
BAT and DH order is written as such due to later stats in the poll where Doppo and Sasara were next to each other but their official colours were too similar so I used the order in Division All Stars songs rather than release order.
Pre-Season: Referring to the start of a battle season.
Battle Season: Referring to the battle/versus songs or dramatracks
1st Manga Bonus Songs: Songs that were included with the manga
DAS Songs: Division All Stars songs - songs that include the whole cast
Merch: Anything that is official HypMic merchandise or has content of HypMic. Plushies, nendoroids, magazines, stickers etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shibuya Division: Fling Posse Drama Tracks and The Loneliness, Tears, and Hope of a Puppet are the most listened to drama tracks of their respective pre-season. Both belong to Fling Posse.
The debut drama tracks of Dotsuitare Honpo (Back Again, Partner) and Bad Ass Temple (The Heart’s Conviction Can’t Be Broken) were listened to less than the other debut drama tracks.
Yokohama Division: MAD TRIGGER CREW Drama Tracks and Chaser from the Past (Matenrou: Before the 2nd DRB) were the least listened to dramatracks of their respective phases of the pre-seasons.
The Champion album has the least listened to drama tracks (Testimony and Me Against the World).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In all cases, the songs have all been listened to more than the respective drama tracks for their album.
The 1st Manga Bonus songs have not been listened as much as the other songs.
This can be due to the fact that these songs cannot be accessed for free legally.
The most listened to songs are the Division All Stars songs with the full cast.
This can be due to the fact that these are the only songs that are available in their entirety on YouTube.
Fling Posse has the most listened to songs of both pre-seasons.
Buster Bros!!! has the least listened to songs of the 1st pre-season and Matenrou has the least listened to songs of the 2nd pre-season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- side D.H & B.A.T manga was released as the poll was being conducted, so was not included in this poll.
-Before the Battle- The Dirty Dawg is the most read manga. -Division Rap Battle- side B.B & M.T.C is the least read manga.
By the numbers given for listening to the Spotify radio show, Hypnosis Radio, 80.4% of this sample size has listened to the radio - 19.6% have not listened to Hypnosis Radio.
Around half of the fandom has bought merch - this poll has included plushies, magazines etc. and all from official sources.
DEMOGRAPHICS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to the limitations of Google sheets, Africa does not show up on the chart for location as the voter percentage is too small.
The age ranges used are of a similar range to those of Japanese polls. [ARB’s recent survey and the age demographics of Comic ZERO-SUM, publisher of the FP/M manga]
93.5% of voters use translations regardless of Japanese comprehension.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The option for ‘I bought multiple CDs’ refers to both different CDs and multiple of the same CD during the battle season.
Of those who were around for the Battle Season, 15.66% of this group did purchase a battle CD.
CHARACTER VOTING
Tumblr media
For comparison, here are the rankings from the previous poll (January 2020), From Japan (October 2018) and the Yumejoshi poll (December 2019)
Tumblr media
Names marked in GREEN show an increase in vote percentage. Names in RED show a decrease in vote percentage. Names in BLACK show that their popularity rank has not changed. Names in BLUE show the character has been added to the polls through voter suggestion.
The arrow besides the names show if their rankings went up▲ or down▼. No markings are set if the character’s position has not changed.
1.2% of votes had a minor character as one of their favourite characters (Ichijiku, Nemu and Yotsutsuji - No other minor characters were suggested).
These polls vary in selection method as our polls looked at the top 3 votes of each character.
From Japan’s method has been stated as a poll but we were unable to find the original. Rio and Jiro’s reason for being unranked is unknown.
The Yumejoshi poll was done by people suggesting their favourite characters for rankings, meaning that it was not entirely based upon HypMic. What is shown here are those who ranked. The ranking in their picking of a 100 is listed against them.
These three polls have varying demographics. From Japan’s spread seems to be more broad, while the Yumejoshi poll is specifically yumejoshi/female. Our polls were taken only for English speakers. In addition to this, there is some bias based on who the poll was spread through followers.
For example, the poll was created by a Gentaro stan and main supporters of this poll are Dotsuitare Honpo stans.
Doppo dominates the polls in both English-speaking and the Japanese fandom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters who received less than 1% of the votes are listed as other: Jiro (0.8%), Rio (0.9%), Rosho (0.2%), Rei (0.4%), Hitoya (0.5%)
Names marked in GREEN show an increase in their vote percentage. Names in RED show a decrease in vote percentage. Names in BLACK show that their popularity rank has not changed.
The arrow besides the names show if their rankings went up ▲ or down▼. No markings are set if the character’s position has not changed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only significant change in division rankings shows that Buster Bros!!! are now more popular than MAD TRIGGER CREW.
Dotsuitare Honpo is the lowest in both the favourite division rankings and perceived lyrical skill.
SONG VOTING
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Songs marked in GREEN show an increase in vote percentage. Names in RED show a decrease in vote percentage. Names in BLACK show that their popularity rank has not changed. The arrow besides the names show if their rankings went up▲ or down▼. No markings are set if the character’s position has not changed.
Debut Songs: Songs that received less than 2% of the votes: New Star (0.3%), G Anthem Y-CITY (0.7%), Meikyuu Heki (1.6%), FACES (1.3%). These songs collectively had 3.9% of the vote.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Songs that received less than 2% of the votes: Sensenfukoku (1.1%), New Star (0.1%), G Anthem of Y-City (0.8%), Bayside Smoking Blues (1.0%), What’s My Name (0.6%), Scenario Liar (1.3%), 3$EVEN (1.9%), Meikyuu Heki (0.5%), Own Stage (1.2%), FACES (0.6%), One and Two, and Law (1.1%), School of IKB (1.2%), Uncrushable (1.4%), 2Die4 (1.0%), You Are Therefore I am (1.9%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Songs marked in GREEN show an increase in vote percentage. Names in RED show a decrease in vote percentage. Names in BLUE show that this song has been added for the poll.
The arrow besides the names show if their rankings went up ▲ or down ▼. No markings are set if the character’s position has not changed

BATTLE SEASON OPINIONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BATTLE SEASON HOPES
For our final question, we asked “What are your hopes for this battle season? Any plot points, theories etc. that you want to mention.” This question was not required, but we received around 300 answers to this. We condensed the material into basic categories so you don’t have to sort through all 300.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some choice points made about the plot:
What does Samatoki actually think Ichiro did to Nemu?
Could Saburo hack Ramuda?
How will Fling Posse react when they realise what Ramuda’s done to everyone else?
How do the other Ramuda clones interact with each other and everyone else
What if this is all Gentaro’s book?
What if Gentaro’s brother is the original Ramuda clone?
How are Chuo seen by other women?
Would Chuo rig the matches? Especially against Matenrou since their victory
What if they cloned someone else?
What if they reshuffled the divisions? Or added more divisions?
And here are a few funny comments before we go... just cause there were a few silly things added in that made us laugh. Yes, these are all as written.
Yo when is it gonna be confirmed that Ramuda has big top energy?
A song named "ALTERCATION ALTERCATION ALTERCATION"
I hope Rei gets his shit checked.
I'm a fictional doctor's wh o re so I'm rly in this for MTR at the moment sjfjskfkd I hope we get to hear how much the seiyuus have improved too compared to the first season!! :D
Doppo and Hifumi's wedding. Dice finally got some money. Everyone go on a hunt for emus. The 6 divisions go fishing. Rio making proper and digestible food. No more drama protecc ramuda.
I just kinda want them to kiss ngl
CHUUOKU DOWN! JUSTICE FOR ALL!!
i jokingly headcanon that gentaro cant read but i kinda hope its true. also i want sasara and ramuda to interact i think itd be kinda epic
I want Ramuda reduced to scrap metal

hypmic: thoughts
as of 25/3/2020 (i have not updated this since then but my feelings are roughly still the same)
might as well get this out of the way since matenrou’s album is out. half to prepare for the 2nd drb, half to organize my thoughts from 1.5 years in the making
that said, i talk about everything that comes to mind so this is just gonna be a dump of random thoughts :>
no it’s really long
aight so
the main part of hypmic is the music, which is pretty good, all things considering. each division has their own style of music, and each character, their style of rapping. this makes for some really fun and sick combos during the rap battles
i’m really floored by the seiyuus, they’re really trying hard and doing a great job
it’s also really nice that they bring in different composers? and no two songs sound too much alike or similar? it’s just a lot of effort put into the music and i’m all for it
hoodstar is my fav all-stars song. it’s so funky and fun? i could listen to it forever
ngl survival of the illest is a close second. i was not expecting to like it so much
plot… exists. that’s really all i can say about it-
listen. i’ll give them A for effort. i appreciate what they’re trying to do, continuing a linear storyline through the drama tracks and revealing bits of backstory in the manga. TDD era was lit af and the whole chuuoku endgoal + all the character interactions and revelations is pretty interesting
it’s just… predictable? like, very predictable? so much that it gets boring and old really quick? at least throw us a curveball, kr
there’s also the issue about how canon stuff are in exclusive (limited) drama tracks that can be difficult to get but that’s just Marketing so whatever, let’s move on
maybe they’ll drop some extra lore in the arb game, we’ll see
oh right, alternate rap battle
pretty cool game i guess? i was really only interested to try out the rhythm game, which i did, and it kinda... sucks. or well, it’s not bad but it’s not a contender against games like cytus, lanota, voez, etc. the beatmap’s a bit off and weird? i’ll just SS each song before i quit ahaha
but if you’re interested in more hypmic boys.png & a more casual rhythm game then go for it
here’s a (kind of) hot take: there’s so much content released that it all feels. saturated
i do love and appreciate the new content! but it’s just... a lot
i mean, you got new albums, manga, hypmic radio, stage plays, the arb game, the anime that’s supposedly out this year- and all of this within the span of about a year? it kinda feels like they’re riding on the popularity to just. try everything
good for them though, more Marketing strategies
mad respect to anyone who managed to stay sane for the past 6 months
i mean it’s not necessary to keep up with everything but with how active the fandom is, it can feel pressuring. especially when everyone’s screaming or yelling about angst or whatever
on that note, hot take #2: the fandom is intense. but not so much in a bad bad? it really depends which circle you step into and most of the ones i’ve seen have people that are super kind and lovely!
but it’s mainly intense and loud, it’s a slight tinge of entitlement going around in some circles, most if not all are very vocal about crying and everyone’s just screaming
but hey, the amount (and quality) of fanart and translation content etc is amazing & i always give my appreciation and love to them
with that stuff out of the way, hmm i’ll just ramble about something
like divisions
buster bros!!! is cute. good bro vibes. it’s also really lovely to read about how jiro and saburo didn’t like ichiro in the beginning, and now they’re willing to do anything for him? good stuff. they also have really good songs and i have equal love for all of them, but ‘ore ga ichiro’ remains forever undefeated with ‘requiem’ right behind. saburo’s probably my fav bc i can’t say no to smartass lil shits :’D
i will give my everything to mad trigger crew. the angry yakuza sison, the megane cop in leather and the military dork who loves to cook can have my soul right now. they fit my ideal types so well :’D not a big fan of their songs except ‘dead pools’ but i love listening to them on the drama tracks
hard to describe into words how i feel about fling posse. i love them very much, their character tropes are up my alley (i have a soft spot for gremlins, liars and gamblers) and nothing can ever top stella. but it’s kinda difficult to root for them? kinda? they’re the mystery division, you know? tied together with secrets and hidden pasts. even when i first got into hypmic, i wondered how they even got together lol. they do have cute moments though! and i’m eagerly waiting for them to open up to each other.
...ramuda ;;;;;
matenrou was my first. i got into hypmic bc of division battle anthem and the group with a gray wolf as their insignia. despite everything, they’re so… chill. jakurai has such a calming voice, doppo and hifumi yelling in the background of songs is so iconic, and they just want to have a good time. being giddy over assassin jakurai is just a perk, i swear-
dotsuitare hompo has nice songs. osaka dreamin’ night was catchy and tragic transistor was buckets of fun. but as a group, i don’t really… feel anything for them. they give me vibes of a plot device to progress the story along (sasara for samatoki, rei for BB/chuuoku) and there’s not much for me to get attached to. maybe in time! roshio having stage fright is really endearing, and sasara has the prettiest fanart ngl
i love bad ass temple!! if i wasn’t already into hypmic, this is the division that would make me dive in. i love love funky sounds, i’m really into their solos, and their dynamic? the “tired exasperated uncle taking care of two brats” vibes? kukou’s fangs? jyushi’s extra-ness? hitoya’s weird outfit? their entire drama track?? amanda?? i just love them
these next ones probably doesn’t count lol but i’ll say it anyway: i love the dirty dawg. ‘TDD legend’ remains to be one of my my go-to comfort songs. the drama between the four is both funny and sad, though it makes sense why they split up. at least they have their own groups now
not really into mad comic dialogue but i think they’re neat! they have nice fanart too
everyone hates chuuoku for ruining lives and that’s valid but. i want to know more about them? they’re obviously the Big Bad but seeing things from their perspective would be really interesting. and i’m genuinely curious about how chuuoku works: the inner workings of the district, how they handle giving out permits, the standard of living beyond the wall & for the women who chose not to, the clone factory
putting aside the music and plot, hypmic has the weirdest merch?? in what other fandom can you get a hypmic-themed bathtub, toothbrush, underwear, face masks and hotel rooms?

Personality:
Due to being alive for more than several several millenniums, Asher is rather a cocky and egotistical trickster. While he always takes order from his hostess, it does not stop Asher from being playfully devious and rebellious. He gets easily bored and often takes up challenges he finds fun. Mischievous and a bit immature, The first blood’s arrogance has always been a coping mechanism to mask the pain of betrayal from Karlheinz whom he once respected as a father-figure. Being a Do-S, Asher has said to have always thirst for chaos and destruction in battle and would sometimes go to the human world to witness it. He would even get himself involved just to shed blood for fun on every eclipses when he is at his strongest; Because of this, he is often viewed as the true monster he is for his blood thirst and sadism. This trait still exist even within the body of Naoki as he would laugh maniacally over the idea of a heated war happening in the Demon world, and be heavily upset about is unable to join in the fray.
However, while the sadism is still there, Asher admitted to have toned down his lust to torture and to kill over the years, only spiking up as it was when given the thought of going against Karlheinz. This is due to the several thousand year influence of his beloved lover and hostess. While he does not acknowledge growing soft, Asher shows hold a soft spot for Enjo Naoki, his new hostess, and began to see her as a daughter-figure due to her uncanny resemblance to his past beloved and having to watch her grow up as her protector. He shows to be overly-protective of Naoki as he has saved her in situations where she was almost killed by even Subaru, who Asher would be capable of killing had it not been for Naoki’s influence chaining him down with taking action to do so. It is revealed that Asher’s overprotectiveness of Naoki is resulted from his beloved’s last wish to keep her safe from harm; Thus, protecting Naoki as the last order from his beloved gave him a reason to live without his love by his side and to cope from the immense loss.
While he is very laid-back and playful, Asher holds resentment towards Karlheinz, the man he himself once admired many years ago. This hatred lived on for a millennium and even lived on even when in the body of Naoki. While Naoki idolized him, Asher agrees with Subaru’s hatred of Karlheinz and finds it justifying. His resentment for him is one of the times when Asher does become serious and prompt Naoki to not try and challenge him on that fact as even that scares her.
Asher is also known for being rather promiscuous, as in-between the Haunted Dark Bridal saga and the MORE BLOOD saga, He is known to flirt with men and women in Naoki’s body; While he claim to joke when he says he states he doesn’t mind sleeping around using Naoki’s body, it is possible that Asher was not joking and was actually serious but only claimed to be joking to prevent Naoki to feel wary of him and forbid him from resurfacing again.

History:
Many millenniums ago, Asher was a First-Blood that was taken under the care of Karlheinz, the Vampire King, after Asher’s parents were killed from the Endzeit illness. He developed a strong friendship with his butler, Andrew, a turned-vampire adopted by Karlheinz. He grew up admiring the Vampire King for his vast knowledge and potential as a ruler. He even wished he could’ve been Karlheinz’s real son, and is often overjoyed when treated as if he was his son. His hobby was to tease a young Richter, even giving him the nickname “Little Ricky”/“Rick-tan”. He was also well-acquainted with Carla Tsukinami, the first prince of Giesbach, as they would see each other often in the kings’ respective castles.
One night, he decided to explore the human world to cause mischief and witness wars and chaos to get over his boredom in the castle. There, he goes to China after receiving word from one of his familiars that two clans are at a heated war with each other. As it was the night of the Eclipse, he decided to take part in it using magic to disguise his appearance as one of the enemy clan members; However, as he was about to join, Asher gets cornered by clan members that believes him to be their enemy. While he was able to slaughter them, the first-blood faints from using too much of his own energy. Waking up, Asher finds himself in a different area of the forest bandaged up. Sensing a human presence, He meets a young girl by the name of “Jiang Ying-Yue”, who found him unconscious near the battlefield with the corpses of the men he killed and bandaged his wounds for him. Sensing she is lowering her guard, Asher initially thought about drinking her blood to quench his thirst before he goes back to the Demon World; However, before he could, Asher notices something off about the girl as her chest pains and started to have difficulties to breathe. When she was calm, He demanded answers from the girl, especially why she would save a stranger such as himself. But before she could answer, the Chinese girl noticed it was time for her to return and promised to meet him again the next night before bidding farewell. After she left, Asher decides to transform into an bat to follow the mysterious girl. He comes to find out that Ying-Yue was the daughter of a member from one of the clans in war, the same clan that he killed other members of, and has been taking care of him in secret the entire time despite of that. While he initially thought about leaving to go back to the Demon World as he has already regenerated, Asher decides not to leave yet. He became curious about the unknown girl who didn’t seem to hesitate helping someone that clearly killed clan members from her own clan, that could likely be a foe that could kill her, and concludes that she did not do it out of the goodness of her heart; Rather, she chose to heal him with an ulterior motive. Because of this, he decided to wait upon her return, and thought about killing her by drinking her blood dry once she gives him answers, reasoning to himself that he would’ve been fine without her help due to being a first-blood and can only die from decapitation.
The next night, Ying-Yue returns with fruits she has taken from the clan for Asher to eat, this includes slices of Pineapples. While he was wary of the human girl, he tries it only to savor the taste. While Ying-Yue was happy he liked it, Asher goes straight to the point and asked her why she helped him, despite knowing he was the one that killed members of her clan.
And the answer was simple to Ying-Yue: She wanted him to kill her next.
Taken aback as he has never been asked by someone (let alone a human) to kill them before, Asher asks why. Ying-Yue reveals that she was actually born with a weak-heart, and brought him to a safe area as she realized he wasn’t from either clans. Despite her condition, She explains that the only value she ever had was by being chosen to be married away by her father to the son of the clan leader; Due to this, she never knew what it was like to be free to make choices for herself or to live her life to the fullest, often used as a pawn for power. With her weak heart, she wished she could live healthier, but understands it would not change how things were. Thus, when she saw that someone from a third-party came to join in the war for the sake of killing, Ying-Yue knew she found the right person that would do the job. A stranger with no strings attached that was capable of taking lives with no remorse. Now understanding why, Asher takes everything into consideration. If he kills her, he will highly likely cause an uproar that will start an all-out war between clans that could cause so much devastation and bloodshed to both sides. A war that could potentially continue for many years to come. As much as he enjoyed the thought, The First-Blood decided to accept the request and drink Ying-Yue’s blood, who was taken aback from this action but started to give in despite the pain. As he drinks her blood, Asher starts to become fond of her blood and stops before he could really succeed in killing her. When questioned why he chose to stop as Ying-Yue was prepared to give into death, Asher took a moment to recollect his thoughts as of why. While he didn’t understand himself, he only knew he wanted to drink more of Ying-Yue’s blood, yet not so much where she could really die. Noticing that it was becoming late, Ying-Yue was about to leave until she nearly faints from having the blood drunk. While reluctant, Asher decides to help her by transforming into a wolf to help her to the site of the clan and healing the bite mark before leaving back to the hidden area.
The meetings at night start to become frequent. Whenever Ying-Yue was in danger by rival clan members, Asher would protect her by either transforming into a Wolf or a snake, or by using a familiar to kill them. In the daytime, He would transform as an eagle to watch over her while he transform into a bat to watch over her at night. They started to form a bond that turned into friendship, where Asher confesses being a First-Blood and talks to her about the Demon world, which helped her understand when he drank her blood for the first time; Meanwhile, Ying-Yue talks about the clan and about the good and bad humans that also resides in the human world, which makes Asher begin to understand about the fascination Karlheinz has for humans in the first place. Asher has even transforms into a Wolf for Ying-Yue and takes her on his back to places she has never gotten the chance to go to. Eventually, as they began to show each other sights they’ve never seen before, they start to form a romance as they began to fall in love; He falls in love with her solidifying fearlessness, as she falls in love with his mischievous rebelliousness.
But after realizing he has already taken too much time away from the Demon world, Asher eventually has to bid farewell to his beloved, who kisses him and makes him promise to return for her. While he was hesitant to come back, He decides he will start to become true to her and swore to keep the promise.
However, everything changed when the Millennial war started to take place. After overhearing about a war coming to place, Asher was initially excited to see bloodshed and wanted to join in ‘the fun’. But once he heard about it being against the clans and about how Karlheinz does not plan to help save all of the First-Bloods from the disease that killed his parents, Asher felt betrayed that his idol would rather use this opportunity for his own personal plans.
Upon finding out that he and Burai, the Demon Lord, would seal the Antenate Castle with the rest of the remaining first-bloods, Asher realizes that he is no longer safe as he concluded that Karlheinz will use the trust Asher had for him to join the rest of the first-bloods and possibly die from Endzeit. Before that happens, Andrew chooses to assist his master in escaping that fate, as he has overheard the instructions Karlheinz gave Menae, the sister of the Founder king’s wife, on how to slip through the barrier that surrounds the castle. Asher decides to make that attempt to escape with Andrew before he could be caught by Karlheinz to be joined among the other First-Blood’s. While they barely escaped, Asher returns to China with Andrew, where he finds Ying-Yue whose heart begins to fail. Not wanting to be part from his beloved in this way, Asher decided to give his heart to her to save her, and orders Andrew to perform the transplant. While Ying-Yue does not know how it can be possible, Andrew only makes her unconscious to have one more moment with his master about how this woman has changed him, only for Asher to respond that if anyone was changing, it was going to be her. With that said, Andrew places Asher to sleep after a farewell to perform the procedure. Once the procedure was a success, Andrew decapitates Asher’s head to fake his own death with no chances of his body surviving.
After that, Ying-Yue and Asher became one in her body, having to become more healthy from the first-blood’s heart. But this does not change Ying-Yue’s fate to marry the son of the clan leader and become a subservient wife of the clan’s leader, bearing a son in the process. During these times, Asher would sometimes take over for her to help release the stress, and start to understand the hardships of a woman during these ancient times. Once he was given word by Andrew about Karlheinz’s plan called the “Adam and Eve” project and about how only the aunt of Carla, Mene, was the only First-Blood that was left alive outside the of the castle, Asher remembers that the Vampire King has wanted to take advantage of his dying race. When he was told that Menae was sent to Burai after she escaped the barrier and is bearing a daughter despite also being infected by Endzeit, Asher realizes that the reason Karlheinz didn’t save the first-blood race, was so that he could create a new race using a woman with first-blood blood for his own plans regarding Endzeit.
Finding out that Karlheinz might’ve sent a familiar to search for him after his escape, Asher tells Ying-Yue that she is no longer safe. The reason for this is because, despite faking his own death, it is still possible for someone like Karlheinz to see that his heart could still live on within her body, and might plan to use her for that plan. When asked if he was sure, Asher explains that the only reason he can be sure about it was because he has been under the Vampire King’s care, surrounded by his researches and Asher knew better than anyone about Karlheinz’s fascination with the human race; Even Andrew himself attest to it. He knows that even if the heart originally belonged to a male first-blood, Ying-Yue was still a female human that could still be a victim to Karlheinz and his experiments. And if she doesn’t comply, Karlheinz will either force her to comply or take the heart for himself to place in another female’s body.
While Asher initially suggested running away into hiding, Ying-Yue, not wanting to leave her baby behind or take any risks of being found, suggests to burn down the village. While she understands this to be cruel to the other villagers, Ying-Yue believes that it is the only way to save herself and her child, and even begs Andrew to turn her into a vampire to lessen her value as a human. If she simply ran away into hiding, then the Vampire King will still find her regardless; Thus, she suggests burning the village down is the only option in order to fake her own death to prevent being found, and allow herself to go into hiding with her son, even takes advantage of being a vampire to protect her son and herself. She would rather take that risk for her freedom than to be forced to a fate against her will again, and wants her son to be given the freedom to choose for himself instead of being forced to go through life with high expectations for the sake of the clan. No matter the cost may be, as a lot of things were taken from her.
Understanding her reasons, and seeing that Ying-Yue has embraced his destructive traits as expected, Asher (with Andrew’s help) arranged the destruction of the village and their escape before Karlheinz’s familiars could travel to look for them. When the day came, the village burned as planned. Despite the death of her husband and other clan members, Ying-Yue successfully managed to escape with her son by the time Karlheinz’s familiars arrived to search for them; This earned Ying-Yue the nickname of Adam’s first wife: Lilith. However, once she managed to escape, Andrew, under hers and Asher’s orders, turns her into a vampire; Unfortunately, He could not afford to stay with them, in fear that his association with them would lead to them being discovered alive; Ying-Yue tried to get him to stay, but Asher stops her and bids his friend farewell, making him promise that they will meet again soon so he may repay him for everything he has done to help his new family. And thus, they parted ways and it was the last time they saw one another.
After that, Ying-Yue starts to adjust her new life as a vampire while experiencing the freedom she dreamed of with her new family, as Asher experiences compassion and love from taking care of the human baby whom he viewed as his own son. Noticing that the son was developing differently from normal humans due to Asher’s blood, Ying-Yue has begun living her life as a Vampire watching as her descendants grow and decided to take the opportunity to save their family secret behind their enhanced abilities by establishing a new clan filled with vampire hunters, which became well-known for their professionalism in their work. Despite having to be stay into hiding for protection, Ying-Yue was very happy with the freedom to live her life as her own, to cherish living a long life after fearing her life would be cut short, and to be free to love Asher, even if they must share her body.
However, the happy days came to an end when one of the descendants was captured by a Vampire and their family secret was leaked to the world. While the original plan was to place Asher’s heart in a male vessel to protect him and to keep it from Karlheinz’s reach, Ying-Yue finds out there was an female infant, an orphan born with the same weak heart she once had as a human. Not wanting the child to die, Ying-Yue decided to pass on Asher’s heart to the child. While Asher tried to convince her otherwise as history might repeat, he gave in after hearing Ying-Yue’s solidified resolve of wanting to save the baby. Her last wish was for him to protect the baby with his life, to give him reason not to give up and to keep moving forward, a reason to keep living without her; The same way he protected her during her times of distress. Seeing what she was trying to do, he decides to honor her last request. They both proclaim their love one last time before they part, transferring Asher’s heart from his beloved to the baby.
That baby was born with the name “Jiang Xiu-Lan”, who would eventually go by a new name: “Enjo Naoki”.
While pained to leave his beloved after thousands of years being together, Asher pushes those emotions aside and end up falling asleep until he woke up within Naoki’s dreams when she was 5. This would be their first real meeting. He is awoken from Naoki’s crying and comforts her, enraged when he finds out she was suffering a fate similar to his beloved’s where she is used as a pawn and restricted from having freedom. He comes to realize she has been adopted by a selfish man that does not allow Naoki to act her age. Because of this, Asher takes it upon himself to become a father-figure to her and play with her in her dreams, where she would refer to him as “Papa” as she is permitted to call whom she believes to be her father “Father”. These blissful dreams came to an end as Naoki started to get older, as Naoki would start to remember it as having an imaginary friend, turning the dreams to bittersweet. Asher is placed to sleep again until she awakens him; However, as he has began to see Naoki’s sanity slip due to the abusive environment she grows up in, Asher decides to take it upon himself to chain himself up from within Naoki to keep her at bay, making her unwittingly and emotionally dependent on his presence. For when the time comes for her to break those chains that bind her once and for all when she needs him the most, He will free and be there to protect her.
Which does upon when Naoki starts to live in the Sakamaki mansion and meet the daughter of Burai and Mēne, Cordelia (in Komori Yui’s body), and an adult Richter. In which, Asher greets after years of slumber.
~
Trivia:
• It is heavily implied that Asher was one of the main reasons why Richter developed an inferiority complex towards Karlheinz, as he has taunted him about being a brat that will never being able to surpass the Vampire King nor Asher himself, even after he has resided to Naoki’s body ever since Richter was young.
• Asher admits, after many millenniums later, he reached a conclusion with his sexuality being pansexual; This is due to experimenting about himself while residing within Ying-Yue’s body, where even found himself comfortable in a female body despite identifying himself as male.
He even admits that, had he have experimented and known about his sexuality sooner, and if it had not been for his love for and influences from Ying-Yue, Asher would’ve taken advantage of her body to flirt with others and have fun without her consent; Although, this May or may not mean the same in Naoki’s case as Asher has made clear.
• It is revealed that after the MORE BLOOD saga, once Naoki and Subaru do become a couple, Asher began to sleep with Subaru using Naoki’s body and admits to enjoy it as Subaru is, what Asher calls, “A beast in the sheets”.
• Asher was the first, in the MORE BLOOD saga, to suspect that Yuuichi Kuroi was another surviving member of the Jiang Clan, mainly due to his scent.
• In the DARK FATE saga, it is revealed that Asher did know Christa and has known her when she was a child, to a point when Naoki finally does meet her, Christa only saw her as Asher due to having his heart; This prompt Asher to take over and comfort Christa, assuring her that he’s not dead as rumored and that he’s really there with her.
• In the Brute Ending in the DARK FATE saga, Asher decides to properly take over Naoki’s body as a vessel, killing her from the inside, in order to follow through Carla’s offer to save the First-Blood race from going extinct once Karlheinz is killed; As a result of such, Asher reigns as the new Vampire ruler, turning Naoki’s body to a turned-Vampire and awakening the full-potential of his powers, while claiming Subaru as his pet, breaking him down and manipulating him by pretending to be Naoki to keep him at bay.
• While Asher appears at the near end of the Haunted Dark Bridal saga, He plays a very prominent, important role in Naoki’s story as her anchor; As he may be crazy, Asher himself is heavily secretive and knows a lot of answers to the questions the Sakamaki’s have.
• While roaming around in Naoki’s body once he has been reawaken, It is implied that Asher is technology-challenged and just as outdated with Modern times as Carla; This is to be expected due to being only conscious in Naoki’s dreams growing up, and has not gained control over her body to roam in the surface until the near end of the Haunted Dark Bridal saga.
• He has to be taught by Naoki over time between the Haunted Dark Bridal saga and the MORE BLOOD saga to learn how to figure it out.
• While Asher can still die, he reveals killing him from within Naoki’s body will cause her will experience imbalance from within psychologically, causing a severe loss of identity/an unstable sense of self as he was the one to keep Naoki has not gone mentally insane from her childhood; Making his existence within her is essential to keep her at bay as she has been unwittingly dependent of him emotionally. This becomes heavily apparent in Naoki’s brutal ending in the Haunted Dark Bridal Saga.
However, in the DARK FATE saga, Asher states that it is possible for Naoki to not suffer such a dangerous aspect when he dies; However, the only way to not suffer it is for Naoki to accept and embrace Asher’s own destructive traits as her own, in a similar way Ying-Yue did when she carried his heart. This way requires a lot of time and effort, which is also why it wouldn’t have been possible to do in the Haunted Dark Bridal saga when he first appeared.
• While it is only implied and hasn’t been decided yet, It is possible that Asher will come back again in the DARK FATE saga after his death.
• While he no longer resides in Naoki after the DARK FATE saga, Some of his personality traits were adopted and embraced by Naoki, along with memories of his past shown in dreams, which makes even Carla question if Asher really did disappear from within her.

don’t expect any cohesion out of this outta this by here’s my thoughts and speculations on the hypmic guidebook image. i’m sorry. it’s stupidly long.
Tumblr media
alright so at first glance, you kinda gotta panic a little because holy cow, very few of the teams are actually together?? bb and mtr are the only two (2) groups actually in close proximity with each other while mtc and fp are all over the place. which is weird since we just got through fp at least reconfirming that they are each other’s true posse and definitely should not be separated right???
big brained twitter users tho came through and it clicked that everyone is separated because their agendas/goals are vastly different from each other, not because of their weak bonds with each other. so lets take a look at where everyone stands with each other
Tumblr media
let’s start with the buster bros!!! it comes as a surprise to no one, but the bros are still together since jiro and saburo are largely following after their big bro. i do have a point to mention about saburo, but that’ll come later.
so on to mtc!! save for probably fp, their group has the widest separation. but given each of their goals, it makes plenty of sense. samatoki wants to bring his sister home. juto wants to bring about the end of drugs. rio hasn’t made any grand movements, but he is keeping an eye out on chuohku. different goals, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t one as a team.
fp!! you could feasibly make the bermuda triangle with how far apart they are! fp’s goals, as of now, do align since they are truly together to prevent ramuda from, y’know, dying, but their individual agendas are separate. in a sense. i’ll try to expand on this in a bit.
next is mtr!! much like bb, they are together as jakurai leads them towards his goal and hifumi and doppo follow out of their desire to support him.
and next we have dh!! their placement pretty much follows what went down in their debut drama track, sasara and rosho have been brought together (by rei) and are determined to make it work as they partner up with rei, whose goals are widely unknown, pretty sus and definitely not aligned with sasara and rosho. and to speculate a little about sasara and his placement somewhat behind the rest of the leaders, i think that it’s because sasara has no clear goal as to why he’s participating in the rap battles outside of wanting to be with rosho. he is right where he wants to be, with rosho and doesn’t have any current goals aside from staying with him. at least, none that we know of.
which brings me to bat. and kuukou specifically. but notice, none of the bat members are together as well, and like so, their individual goals are pretty different from each other. hitoya is here to beat jakurai for once in his life, jyushi has a strong desire to overcome himself and to be a stronger person, and kuukou has barely left any room for jesus between him and ichiro because kuukou, similar to sasara, is here for ichiro. this is my personal headcanon, but i do believe that kuukou actually remembers that ramuda was the one who hypnotised him into breaking things off with ichiro. neither one have forgotten the other (e.g. ichiro naming his new team after his duo with kuukou, kuukou at the end of the bat debt drama track saying “wait for me, ichiro...!”) so i do think how close kuukou and ichiro are reflects their mutual desire to be together as a team again.
another nifty thing i noticed was that there’s a divide amongst the cast, split straight down the middle. you can see it with how gentaro/jyushi, doppo/saburo, samatoki/ichiro, are back to back. and on each side, you have one person posed unlike the rest of them; on the right you rei in the back facing away from everyone. on the left, ramuda sitting on the ground. so, i propose that this divide shows who has goals against chuohku, and those who, while not on their side, are entrenched in chuohku’s plans.
Tumblr media
ramuda, as we know, has the biggest chip on his shoulder when it comes to chuohku. they kinda found a replacement for him in his enemy jakurai, discarded him, left him die, that sort of thing. if anyone wants to see chuohku burn, it’s him. anybody on his side of the picture has goals against chuohku.
ichiro intends to ‘break the wall,’ to topple the chuohku regime and his brothers are right by his side with kuukou there with him as his partner, as previously mentioned. again, we don’t know yet of sasara’s goals outside of being with rosho, but in ‘ahh, osaka dreamin’ night,’ rei’s verse states, “teacher, comedian, doctor, lawyer- Those who are being looked up to as pros are all swindlers,” so there is something going on, not only with sasara, but also with rosho. jyushi is kinda unknown, though ramuda expressed quite a bit of annoyance dealing with him at the end of the bat debut drama track. rio is out here with prior knowledge about plot points such as the hypnosis canceller, in cahoots with former military and hacking into chuohku databases all with an illegal gun strapped to his back. like some of these homies wish they had the balls and the initiative.
as for the right side, rei is the definition of an anti hero. he’s not on anybody’s side, he working with whoever has the power to get his goal done. and that’s on par with anybody on his side of this picture; everybody here is balls deep in chuohku shenanigans, whether they want to be or not.
samatoki’s whole schtick is to free his sister from chuohku. as we’ve seen in the finale of the tdd manga, samatoki will willing go along with whatever and burn any and all bridges if that means his sister is safe. jakurai is likely on this side due to chuohku doing their damnest to get jakurai within their grasp so they can harness the true hyponsis mic’s full potential using jakurai’s healing ability. and where jakurai goes, doppo and hifumi would be loathe to leave him alone. juto maybe be a cop, but it’s implied he is a high ranking one given his change in outfits from tdd canon to present time (from a cop uniform to a crisp suit.) he’s high enough on the ladder for ichijiku, japan’s #2 big boss lady, to know of his work and to be summoned to aid nemu, another high ranking chuohku officer, in an arrest. hitoya, dice, and gentaro are all vague in connection. hitoya, however, is again part of rei’s callout verse as mentioned earlier, so he may be a swindler in the sense of not unwilling to work with chuohku to further his goals (defeating jakurai) and maybe making some hard cash. gentaro is shady as hell; he seems to be connected to a group called plunderer, which chuohku has control over. as for dice, hypmic likes dropping hints that he’s related to otome.
i mentioned i had an observation about saburo, and without getting too into character analysis (ichiro/rei/saburo similarities as people), it’s interesting to note saburo is on the border of this divide and the closest to rei, which could be a play into where we left saburo, questioning ichiro, after the events of helter skelter.
last general observation! with all the speculation i just dropped, the majority of characters that tie directly to chuohku are hanging in the back. we have rei, gentaro, juto, dice, and rio. i thought it was a neat detail, but it struck me as weird that ramuda was way in the front when he’s probably the most direct result of chuohku existing. but... it’s not like the leaders aren’t tied directly into chuohku. they were chosen by chuohku to be center stage in battles meant to appease the general populace into focusing their aggression on each other.
so looking at the pic again, i noticed a kind of... border??
Tumblr media
the ones with obvious connections made a circle. i say obvious and included hitoya and rosho into this because of rei’s verse that i mentioned before. so i’m wondering... does jyushi have some stakes involved in chuohku?? he is a little further into the middle than gentaro, but he’s in line with juto?? this may be a case of over analyzing, but i did point out ramuda’s strange comment about jyushi being annoying to deal with which could randomly come back at any point in the story. or not lol. anyway i’m done, thanks for coming to my ted talk it was as long as an actual ted talk

[TL] ENG - Me Against The World
Tumblr media
[pouring liquid]
Lady (from TV): The victor of the Mad Trigger Crew vs. Matenrou battle has been determined to be Matenrou! As the victor, Matenrou will receive a reward and until the next division rap battle-
[TV turns off]
[pulls back curtains]
Jakurai: We were somehow able to win, however, Samatoki’s team… has quite the skill. We were able to win by a hair’s breadth this time, but what of the next time? It wouldn’t be odd if Ichiro-kun’s or Amemura-kun’s teams won; that’s how close we were in terms of power.
[drinks]
Jakurai: If The Dirty Dawg made one last stand, perhaps Chuuouku would…
Jakurai: (laughs) I haven’t truly forgiven him yet, what am I thinking?
[doorbell rings]
Hifumi: Sensei~ Morning~ Are you awake~?
Doppo: Hifumi! Stop that! What if he’s still asleep?!
[walks towards door]
[opens door]
Jakurai: Good morning, you two. Whatever is the matter?
Hifumi: Sensei! We really did win, right?! It wasn’t a dream, right?!
Doppo: S-Sorry, Sensei. Ever since he woke up, he’s been like this the whole time. He said that he wouldn’t believe it until he confirmed it with you.
Jakurai: Haha. It’s all thanks to the hard work of you two. There is no mistaking it, we are the champions.
Hifumi: For reeeeaaals?!?! Yahoo!
Doppo: Hifumi! There are other guests! Don’t shout!
Jakurai: Let’s not talk while standing. Feel free to enter.
Hifumi: Thanks much, Sensei!
Doppo: I’m sorry. Pardon the intrusion.
————— (2:15)
Hifumi: Wooow! No freakin’ way, we’re the champs~!
Doppo: Even after one night, it still doesn’t feel real.
[Jakurai places two cups down]
Jakurai: It’s coffee, please have some if you’d like.
Doppo: Thank you very much.
Hifumi: Thankies!
[drink]
Jakurai: Ah, I was given the prize money, so I will distribute it afterwards, if that is alright.
Hifumi: That was quick… By the way, how much was the prize money?
Jakurai: One hundred million. [1]
[Doppo spit take]
Doppo: A h-h-h-h-h-hundred million?!
Jakurai: It doesn’t split well three ways, I am fine taking 30 million. I will hand each of you 35 million then.
Hifumi: Thanks much! It’s easy money, so I wonder what present I should get for my customers~
Doppo: Thirty five…million...close to six years’ worth of my annual salary...
Hifumi: Oh yeah, don’t we get supremacy over other divisions too?
Jakurai: That’s right. Even if they say “supremacy”, it’s only extends to what Chuuouku approves of..
Doppo: E-Even so, it’s supremacy. Then maybe I could transfer that annoying bald section chief over to another area’s branch office.
Hifumi: Uwahhh, Doppo-chin’s savage~
Jakurai: Doppo-kun, saying that is—
Doppo: N-No, no, Sensei. It was a joke, a joke…! A-Ahahahah...
Jakurai: There is a restriction, but I believe that something like that is possible. That is why I have a proposal, would you like to hear it?
Hifumi & Doppo: Wassit? / Yes.
Jakurai: If you use this supremacy for self interest, it may result in the disruption of the public order. However, the reverse is also possible.
Doppo: Meaning that…if it’s used for good, public order can be assured…?
Jakurai: Yes. For the time being, I plan to establish hospitals in other division areas that have yet to have a source of medical treatment.
Hifumi: That’s true. Ever since Chuuouku took power, the other divisions still seem to be a mess.
Jakurai: It is not definite that we will win the next tournament. That is why, should we not use it rightfully with no regrets?
Hifumi & Doppo: Yup, agreed! / Yes, of course.
Jakurai: Ha. Thank you, the two of you.
————— (4:51)
Jakurai: Now then, you must still be tired from yesterday, so please return home and rest well—
Hifumi: (interrupting) Like we’d let you say something like that, Sensei! Let’s have a celebratory party today!
Doppo: Hey, hey, hey, Hifumi! Sensei is tired. At least change it to a different day—
Jakurai: Doppo-kun, you needn’t worry about me. Hifumi-kun, since we might as well, let’s do it!
Hifumi: Yay! Then come by our apartment. We’ll cook up some food!
Doppo: Eh? I can’t cook!
Hifumi: Hahahaha! No prob, no prob! Doppo-chin, it’s fine if you just help me out.
Doppo: Well if it’s that much… I think even I can do it.
Jakurai: I’m looking forward to your cooking.
Hifumi & Doppo: Yes.
Jakurai: Then, please leave ahead of me.
Doppo: Eh? Are you not going home yet?
Jakurai: Yes, I just have somewhere to be after this...
Hifumi: OK~ Then see ‘ya laters! ‘Kay, Doppo-chin, off we go~!
[Hifumi walks off and grabs Doppo along]
Doppo: H-Hey, Hifumi, don’t drag me!
Hifumi: It’s fine, it’s fine! Let’s go~
[door closes]
Jakurai: What happened at the staff seating during yesterday’s battle...I wonder if Ichiro-kun and Samatoki-kun noticed it.
————— (6:27)
Juto: sigh...
Riou: Why are you sighing?
Juto: Of course I’d be sighing in this situation. We were called over by Samatoki so early in the morning. It’s probably about yesterday’s defeat.
Riou: Hmm. That is true. But even so, why are you sighing?
Juto: “Why?” Don’t you understand? It’s Samatoki. He’s just going to end up unreasonably attacking us. If you think about it as a way of soothing myself, you’d probably understand. (sigh)
Riou: Hmm. I thought about it, but I couldn’t understand. I request further instruction.
Juto: It was wrong of me to think that you could understand. Please forget it.
Riou: Is that so? Then I’ll forget about it.
Juto: (sigh…)
————— (7:26)
[doorbell rings]
Samatoki: Oh. It’s unlocked, so come in.
[door opens]
Juto: We’re coming in.
Riou: Pardon us.
[door closes]
Samatoki: My bad for calling ya so early.
Juto: Eh—uh—y-yes. It’s no problem—at all.
Riou: Yes. No problem for me.
Samatoki: Then I’m glad. So why are you guys just standing there? Go sit already.
Juto: O-Okay.
Riou: Hm.
[Juto & Riou sit]
Samatoki: You good with coffee?
Juto: Y-yeah, thank you.
Riou: Yes, I’ll have a cup.
Samatoki: Okay.
Juto: Wh...What’s happening? Rather than raging, he’s in a good mood.
[places two cups down]
Samatoki: Here, drink up.
[Riou drinks]
Riou: Oh, it’s good.
Samatoki: Ahaha. If I’m the one makin’ coffee, it’s pro-level.
[Juto drinks]
Juto: He’s right, it’s good.
Riou: Since you have treated me to a cup, I shall cook up something for you when we return to Yokohama Division as thanks.
Samatoki: S-sure. Go easy on me.
Juto: S-Samatoki, do you, do you have a fever?
[Juto tries to place hand on Samatoki’s forehead]
Samatoki (slaps hand back): The hell? I ain’t got a fever. Don’t go touching people’s foreheads whenever you want.
Juto: You...you’re not mad?
Samatoki: Huh? Why would I be mad?
Juto: I...I honestly though you’d be criticizing us for yesterday’s loss...
Samatoki: You stupid? No friggin’ way I’d be on your cases. Instead, I’m more grateful.
Juto: G-grateful? You are? To us?
Samatoki: Yeah. Up against Ichiro, and in the battle against Sensei, too. If you guys weren’t there, I wouldn’t be here doing this.
Samatoki: That’s why, y’know...thank you.
Juto: Eh...oh...yeah.
Riou: Gratitude is unnecessary. It was our fate to work together cooperatively. Also, if I had more power, this outcome wouldn’t have happened.
Samatoki: Same goes for me, too. Next time, we won’t lose.
Juto: Ahem. We really can’t stay in this state of loss.
Riou: I agree. Our territory was stolen. There is no way that we will retreat like this.
Samatoki: Haha, things are getting pretty interesting, aren’t they?
[phone rings]
Samatoki: Hm?...Sensei?
[answers phone]
Samatoki: Sensei, what’s up so suddenly after yesterday?
Jakurai: Samatoki-kun, there is something I wish to speak to you about. Can we speak in the lobby for a bit?
Samatoki: Talk? Is through the phone no good?
Jakurai: There’s something I’m a bit worried about...
Samatoki: Well, it’s fine. I’ll head down now.
Jakurai: Thank you. Then, I’ll see you shortly.
Riou: Is something the matter?
Samatoki: Sensei just called me for a bit. I’m headin’ down.
Juto: It’s almost check-out time. Make it quick. We can’t leave if we’re not gathered together after all.
Samatoki: Yeah, yeah.
[Samatoki leaves the room]
Juto: Jinguji Jakurai, huh. What on earth could he want to speak about?
————— (11:21)
[doorbell rings]
Ichiro: Heeey! Jiro, Saburo, you up?
[footsteps, door opens]
Jiro: Mornin’ Nii-chan...
Ichiro: Oh, morn— Wait, those are some serious panda eyes. Didn’t sleep?
Jiro: Ugh...ah, for now come inside.
————— (11:51)
Saburo: Oh, Ichinii...good morning.
Ichiro: Morning. The heck? You didn’t sleep either, Saburo?
Saburo: Ehehehe...
Ichiro: What’s up with you two?
Jiro: Yesterday’s championship match was a great battle, wasn’t it...
Ichiro: Yeah, that’s right. It was a super close decision.
Jiro: Seeing it...made me frustrated.
Saburo: If only we were just a bit stronger...we could have made it to the finals...
Saburo: I couldn’t sleep thinking about it...
Jiro: It’s because we held Nii-chan back...How pathetic...
Jiro: How pathetic...
Ichiro: Jiro...
Ichiro: Saburo…
Ichiro (lowers his head): I’m sorry.
Jiro & Saburo: Eh?
Ichiro: It’s my fault for letting you two think that. If I had fought harder, we wouldn’t have lost and you guys wouldn’t be so sad.
Saburo: Ichinii! P-Please stop!
Jiro: H-He’s right, Nii-chan!
Ichiro: No, listen to what I say till the end.
Ichiro: This time, I was so focused on Samatoki, I didn’t pay attention to my surroundings. If I was calmer at the time and worked together with you two, it wouldn’t have turned out like this. So, please stop blaming yourselves.
Jiro: Nii-chan...
Saburo: Ichinii...
Ichiro: You guys are improving every day. You made me feel that during the battle. You made me real proud out there. It made me think that I need to start working harder, too.
Jiro & Saburo: Oh...
Ichiro: So, next time let’s put our power together and definitely win. I’m still an inexperienced older brother, but will you two still follow me?
Jiro: Obviously! I’ll follow you anywhere!
Ichiro: Jiro...
Saburo: Of course! I won’t lose to you in terms of devotion.
Ichiro: Saburo...! Alright! This is our new start!
Jiro & Saburo: Yeah! / Yes!
[high five]
Jiro: But anyways, not being able to check-out unless we’re all together is such a pain.
Ichiro: Yeah, this is probably the expectations of Chuuouku.
Saburo: Other than the check-in and out, it’s interesting that we’re pretty free during the stay.
Jiro: It’s too early to check-out. *yawn* I want to sleep more.
Saburo: Tch. Like you should be saying that.
Jiro: Huh?! I can hear you, Saburo!
Saburo: Ahahaha! Your ears are pretty good for a imbecile! Gosh, I was sooo annoyed by Jiro last night.
Ichiro: What happened?
Saburo: Constantly grumbling to himself and pacing around and around...honestly, that was one of the reasons I couldn’t sleep.
Jiro: Hey!!! Damn you Saburo, what the hell are you saying?! We agreed to keep last night a secret! If that’s how you wanna play this, then I’ll expose your ass, too!
Saburo: Ugh!
Jiro: This kid kept crying and weeping under the covers!!!
Saburo: S-stop it!!!
Jiro: Haa!? The fuck are you doing!
Saburo: S-Shut up! I’ll shut that mouth of yours so you can’t speak ever again!
Jiro: Oh, oh, oh, bring it the fuck on! I’ll do the same fucking thing to you!
Saburo: Shut up, you idiot!
Jiro: You shut up, you idiot!
[phone rings]
[Jiro & Saburo continue to argue in the bg]
Ichiro: Hm? Jakurai-san?
Ichiro: Hey! I’m answering the phone so be quiet!
Jiro: S-sorry.
Saburo: I apologize.
Jiro: (under his breath) Dummy!
Saburo: (under his breath) Traitor!
[answers phone]
Ichiro: Hello?
Jakurai: Ichiro-kun, could you spare me a minute?
Ichiro: Yeah.
Jakurai: Can you come out to the lobby now?
Ichiro: Sure, but why?
Jakurai: There’s something I wish to speak about. It won’t take long.
Ichiro: Got it. Then I’ll head there now.
Jakurai: Thank you. Then, I’ll see you shortly.
[call ends]
————— (16:23)
Gentaro: Now then, it’s about time to leave.
Gentaro: Is that Dice still sleeping?
Dice: Zzz...zzz...
Dice: Ahaha...It’s a jackpot...I did it...I’m friggin’ rich...
[Gentaro walks towards Dice]
Gentaro: Such a carefree face. He must be having a good dream.
Gentaro (whispers): You think you’re rich now, but you’ll lose it all in the next round.
Dice: No, no way...Why did I go over there and lose it all...(weeping)
Gentaro: Ahahaha. Dice, you’re so simple.
Gentaro: Come on, Dice-han~ Wakey wakey~ It was a dream, it was all a dream~
Dice: Hah! A dream...?
Gentaro: Good morning, Dice.
Dice: M-morning. Gentaro, I had a hella bad dream.
Gentaro: What kind of dream?
Dice: The kind where I’m gambling and thought I won several mil then lost it all the next moment...
Gentaro: My goodness. But are you fine with it?
Dice: Fine with what?
Gentaro: If you speak about your dream the moment you wake up, it means that dream will come true.
Dice: Eh?! F-for real?!!!
Gentaro: Well, it’s just a lie.
Dice: Eh, a lie? Haaa...thank god, it’s a lie...
Gentaro: Oh? Are you not angry?
Dice: I'm so friggin' relieved it's a lie that I can’t get mad.
Gentaro: Alas, how quickly he turn'st mine heart to shame, methinks.
Dice: I have no fucking clue what you just said.
Gentaro: Now then, shall we stop playing here? Dice, please get ready to leave.
Dice: Hm? So it’s already that late?
[Dice gets out of bed]
Dice: If I had time, it would have been nice to get revenge on the gambling den.
Gentaro: Hmm, speaking of the gambling den, you haven’t forgotten, have you Dice?
Dice: What are you talking about?
Gentaro: Money. You owe me.
Dice: AHAHAHAHA!
Gentaro: Why are you laughing, are you trying to dodge this?
Dice: Anyways, is it fine if we don’t go and wake up Ramuda?
Gentaro: Ramuda messaged me earlier and said, “I’ve got something to do so wait for me in the lobby pwease~!” End quote.
Dice: Huhhh, so there’s all sorts of leaders.
Gentaro: “All sorts,” indeed.
————— (19:45)
Samatoki: Tch. Last mug I ever hoped to see in the morning.
Ichiro: Samatoki...
[lights a cigarette]
Samatoki: Add “-san” to that, dumbass.
Ichiro: Why should I have to add “-san” to someone I don’t respect?
Samatoki: I’ll beat your ass again, right here, right now.
Samatoki: But it won’t change a damn thing, will it.
Ichiro: Tch.
Samatoki: What’s up with you? No comeback, wimp?
Ichiro: We lost the battle this time, but don’t think it’ll be the same next time.
Samatoki: Hah, I’ll do it however many times it takes.
Ichiro: Don’t get so used to your high horse, you...damn siscon!
[throws cigarette to the floor]
Samatoki: HUH? WHO YOU CALLIN’ A SISCON?!
Ichiro: You, who else but you! Getting all defensive is just proof of it!
Samatoki: It’s true, that Nemu is cute as hell...That’s why I’m protecting her!
Ichiro: That’s called being a siscon!
Samatoki: Kh… Then, doesn’t that make you a brocon?!
Ichiro: Ugh! Huh?? I ain’t a brocon! I’m just raising them day by day to be men!
Samatoki: That’s being overprotective! That’s why those brats haven’t fucking grown!
Ichiro: Jiro and Saburo are so freakin’ cute...they’re the goddamn apples of my eyes!
Samatoki: That makes you a brocon!
Ichiro: Gugh... you damn siscon!
Samatoki: Huh, you fucking brocon?!
Ichiro: UUGGHhH!!
Samatoki: HAAA!!??
Ichiro: HAAA!!?? The fuck ya want!?
Samatoki: FUcking say it again!
Ichiro: Siscon.
Samatoki: You fucking said it now, yoU FUCKING BROCON!
Ichiro: HAAA!!??
Samatoki: HAAA!!??
Ichiro: Siscon!!!
Samatoki: Fucking come at me, bro!!!
[Ichiro & Samatoki continue to argue]
Jakurai: Please calm down, you two.
Samatoki: Tch.
Jakurai: I apologize for being late despite calling you. We don’t have that much time, so we will start immediately.
Ichiro: Alright.
[Samatoki lights another cigarette]
Jakurai: Nurude Sasara-kun. Harai Kuukou-kun. These two were at the final battle yesterday.
Ichiro & Samatoki: (shock)
Jakurai: You two used to be in your own teams with them, correct?
Samatoki: W-Why...
Jakurai: There were several other men that stood out.
Ichiro: Kuukou...is in Chuuouku?
Samatoki: Sasara...that bastard.
Jakurai: Additionally...there was also an old friend of mine there.
Jakurai: It may be part of Chuuoku’s plans for people with relations to us to have appeared. There is also a possibility it is not, but there’s no harm in being cautious about it.
Ichiro: (gasps)
Samatoki: Tch...
Jakurai: Also, about Amemura-kun...
Ichiro: Did something to Ramuda?
Jakurai: ...No. Pardon me for even bringing it up. Please forget it.
Samatoki: It ain’t like you to—
Jakurai: However, there is one thing I wish for you to remember.
Jakurai: Please be careful of Amemura-kun.
Samatoki: That bastard Ramuda?
Ichiro: What do you mean—
Jiro: Nii-chan! It’s about time to leave!
Saburo: We also got your stuff!
Ichiro: Oh, thank you.
Juto: Jeez, I told you not to be too long, didn’t I?
Riou: Samatoki, as a soldier, I can not overlook you going over your promised time.
Samatoki: Tch. Shut up….
Jiro: Y-You guys are...
Saburo: Iruma Juto...Busujima Mason Riou.
Juto: Oh, if it isn’t the students. What a coincidence to be leaving together.
Jiro: Look down on us while you can. We won’t lose next time.
Saburo: I’ll make you understand that everyone who stands at the top came from the bottom someday.
Riou: Those are good eyes. Better than when we first met.
Doppo: Sensei, it’s almost time.
Hifumi: Sensei, your luggage. Are these all your belongings?
Jakurai: Thank you, you two. It took longer than I had expected.
Dice: Why’s everyone here?
Gentaro: My, my. Looks like everyone’s gathered together. Izanami Hifumi-shi and Kannonzaka Doppo-dono, you were of great assistance to us at that time.
Doppo: G-good morning.
Hifumi: Haha, excuse me for what happened back then.
Gentaro: Goodness...you’re rather different from how you appeared to me before.
Hifumi: I am me. But, that means that the other possible me has been captured by your eyes.
Gentaro: What is this man saying?
Hifumi: Hahaha! Ahahaha—
Doppo: Ah! I’m sorry, I’m sorry. When this person wears a suit, his personality changes...
Gentaro: Haa, that story again? It sure smells fishy.
Dice: Like you have the right to call someone fishy. And you, Mr. White Collar, didn’t I tell you last time? You ain’t getting nothing from us, no matter how many times you say sorry.
Doppo: Hhh! I-I’m sorry.
Dice: Haa...Even if you and I were born again, we still wouldn’t get along.
Doppo: Ahaha...
Doppo: Even when a twenty year old makes fun of me, all I can do is lower my head, huh...Why am I like this...huh? ...But wait. We were the ones that won...we came out on top, didn’t we? A-Alright...then I’ll do it. I’ll do it!
[Doppo walks towards Dice]
Doppo: H-Hey! You! I-I’ll show you how to...to speak to someone above y-
Dice: Huh?! Your voice is too damn quiet that I can’t hear what the fuck you’re saying!
Doppo: HhhYaaAA—!!! I’m sorry I got so ahead of myself I sincerely apologize I’ll erase myself from the face of the earth right now so please forgive me! (pants) I apologize for being born I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry!
Hifumi: Haha! Doppo-kun, please calm down. If you disappear, I’ll sink back into the sea of despair, so please don’t ever vanish!
Doppo (bowing furiously): I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry!
Jakurai: Now, you’ve said your greetings. Shall we go home? Then, until the next battle everyone.
Hifumi: Understood.
Doppo: Yes! Then, wherever we may meet next, Iruma-san.
Juto: Yes, next time, I won’t lose.
[Matenrou leaves]
Gentaro: Now, Dice. Let’s wait for Ramuda over there, shall we?
Dice: Yeah. Riou-san, I’ll come by for a meal again.
Riou: Yes, I’ll be waiting.
[Gentaro & Dice leave]
Juto: Now then, we should get going too.
Riou: Roger.
Samatoki: Ichiro. Your skills are the only ones I won’t recognize.
Ichiro: Hmph.
Samatoki: I will never forgive you for what you did to Nemu.
[MAD TRIGGER CREW leaves]
Ichiro: Me? Do something to Nemu-chan? What’s he talking about?
————— (28:11)
[door opens]
Ramuda: Hey hey~ Ichijuku-oneesan! It’s me! ♡
Ichijiku: Amemura, is it? Sit down over there.
Ramuda: ‘Kaaaaay~
Ichijiku: How were the battles this round?
Ramuda: Mm...waaaah! I wost!! Cheer me up pwease~
Ichijiku: Hmph. Do you know what happens when you mock me?
Ramuda: Ahaha~ you’ve got no sense of humor~ boooring!
Ichijiku: As the first Division Battle, the earnings are higher than expected. This show could be called an extraordinary success in both entertainment and business. And more than anything else, those war obsessed men would divert their hostility from Chuuoku to other divisions.
Ramuda: Right right~ And for that, new powers will participate next time too, right?
Ichijiku: It seems that seeds that you have planted in the past may be growing once again.
Ramuda: Yes, ma’am! I’m so great!
Ichijiku: Well, then. The next thing we’d like for you to do is...
————— (29:32)
Ramuda: ‘Kay~ I understand~!
Ichijiku: Very well. Complete the assignment immediately.
Ramuda: Alrighty! Oh right, the Hypnosis Canceler has been complete, right? Could that possibly also work on the new Hypnosis Microphones?
Ichijiku: Hmph. You will only get one answer from me: It is not something for you to know.
Ramuda: Eeeh?? Why won’t you give me an answer?
Ichijiku: Amemura, don’t get ahead of yourself. There are literally infinite amounts of replacements for you—
Ramuda: Onee-san, so scaaary!
[Ramuda hops off a chair or something]
Ramuda: Okay, Ichijuku-oneesan, see you ‘round~!
[Ramuda leaves]
Ichijiku: Hmph. Seems I’ve made a mistake, after all.
————— (30:29)
[footsteps]
“Ramuda”: That bitch...I’ll kill her someday. No, not just her...all of humanity. Hehehe… hahaha… HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Jakurai dies! AU (part 4)
The veil between life and death isn't quite as solid as some believe.
OR: Jinguji Jakurai wakes up as a ghost, unable to move on and unable to interact with the world around him.
Dying feels a bit like floating - at first that is. You're lying in an endless abyss of nothingness and it envelopes you like a comforting blanket.
Your eyes are closed, you think, and you don't want to open them. It feels like taking a long nap, but like any nap, you slowly wake up.
It's gradual and slow. It starts with sounds, voices that you recognize but filled with emotions you can't quite place. It doesn't take long before you're being nudged to the world of wakefulness.
And that world that greets you is filled with misery.
When you open your eyes, the first thing you see is a grave. Your grave.
Jinguji Jakurai
21XX - 21XX
Beloved friend and doctor. Thank you for the leaving the world a better place.
You're startled. That's right, you're dead. So why...?
Why are you here, in the world of living when you should be in hell the afterlife?
You wander for a little bit, exploring the graveyard. The people there don't see you, can't hear you. You're unable to interact with anything and you float listlessly.
Why are you here? You're so, so tired.
The first of the TDD, of the people you love, that you see is Ichiro. He's blankly staring at your grave, crouching to eye-level with it.
"Hi, sensei."
You sit next to him. There's an aura of sadness that makes you want to hug the young boy, but you know you can't.
Not anymore.
"I... I don't know what to do anymore. It's like.. every night, the only thing I can think about is how useless I was."
You startle. There are tears in Ichiro's eyes, threatening to spill out at any moment.
"If only... if only I'd stayed calm... If only... god, sensei..."
The tears rain quickly and even as you try your best to comfort Ichiro, you can't get through.
The veil that separates the living and the dead couldn't have been anymore evident and painful, and even as desperation fuels your voice, as you feel yourself get more and more frantic, nothing works.
A b s o l u t e l y n o t h i n g.
It becomes a pattern, you soon notice. First it's Ichiro. Then Samatoki, Yotsutsuji, and Ramuda.
They visit on rotation, and fairly often too. Rarely together, and if it is, Yotsutsuji isn't there.
Your son in all but blood keeps away from Ichiro, Samatoki, and Ramuda, avoiding them like a plague.
You notice the anger, the pain. It hurts your soul to see him in such agony, and nothing you do ever gets through.
You watch Ichiro grow more and more tired with each passing week, a victim to his own grief. His brothers are filled with worry, both clinging desperately to Ichiro. You watch them plan out ways to distract their brother from his grief. They aren't getting through though, and it hurts to see, hurts that you can't hug Ichiro, can't tell him that you're proud of him, that it's not his fault.
You watch Samatoki break down more and more, a whirlwind of guilt and agony, burning up from his own emotions. His sister is gone, choosing the Chuuoku over him. You watch as his new teammates slyly pry and prod him for details, their worry growing with each passing day. You long to hold Samatoki's hand, to tell him that it was your choice to protect them. That it is a choice that you'd make over and over again for them.
You watch Ramuda lose more and more of himself, his grasp on reality loosening with every stray memory that resurfaces. You listen to his tales of his escape from the Chuuoku, his apologies for never telling you about himself. It warms your soul that Ramuda trusts you to tell you this, dead or not, but his airy voice and blank gaze worries you. His teammates often watch worriedly, and you're glad that he has someone watching out for him. You love him, and it's something you never realized until your last moments. You regret that you will never be able to tell him, that you'll never be able to hold him in your arms again.
You watch Yotsutsuji drown in his emotions, in his anger and his sadness. He does his best to imitate you, and while it would have been flattering had he been alive, you desperately wish you could tell him to live his own life, to live his best life. You recognize his teammates and you watch as they do their best to be there for the young boy, and you are so, so grateful. In truth, it's Yotsutsuji's agony that hurts you the most. Once upon a time, you'd promised that you'd be there for him forever, to hold him close on his worst days, to celebrate on his best days. You can't do that anymore, and you hate yourself for breaking that promise.
You stay by their side, moving from one to another. Each day is a different person, and despite how tired you feel, you're thankful for the chance to watch over them even after you've died. You'd once wished at a temple to spend your days with them, to be able to love and protect them with every fiber of your being. You can't do that anymore, but you try to watch over them, to get through to them.
Time passes, you don't know how much time, but you watch as the leaves turn from green to brown, as snow turns to grass. There are whispers of rap battles in the air and you quietly worry.
It's the only thing you can do, quietly worrying.
It's also then when you are greeted for the first time by someone that wasn't a friend nor a patient when you were alive.
Iruma Jyuto greets your gravestone on a sunny day.
"I... My name is Iruma Jyuto. I believe this is the first time we are meeting."
"You are quiet famous, you know? The saintly doctor of Shinjuku, Jinguji Jakurai."
"I should get to the point, shouldn't I? I... We..."
You listen patiently to the young man's words.
But can he really be considered a young man in comparison to you? You're 33, you died at 33. There is no 34 or 35, or any other age for you. You are 33 and you are dead.
"Please, please bless us in this endeavor. We really do want Samatoki to move on, Rio and I. This grief... it's breaking him apart. All of them, really. Aagh, this is so cheesy, why am I doing this..."
"Jinguji-sensei, if you're really there and I'm not just being an idiot and talking to a inanimate object, please let them move on. I know it's not really your fault, but they're stuck. Samatoki, Yamada, Amemura, and Kannabi. So, please, if spirits and whatever exists, please help them come to terms with their grief."
Iruma grumbles for a while longer before leaving. But even as he leaves entirely, his words linger.
You are so glad that they've met teammates that love them so much, but a part of you wonders if you can even help. Nothing you've done has gone through, and sometimes, you question your own existence.
As you ponder and question, questions unanswered by the gods, you watch Ichiro, Samatoki, Ramuda, and Yotsutsuji's teammates stage an intervention. It doesn't go well, not at first.
Of course you should continue on.
You aren't leaving me behind, you're continuing your own path. I'll be by your sides no matter what.
You all deserve the world and more. I would make my choice over and over again if it meant you all lived.
You watch as each division remind their leaders to live. That they are alive and he is not.
You know they will get better one day, someday. You see it in the way they smile, in the way they move with more energy these days. Their teammates are good for them and in turn, they love their teammates with all they have. It's a desperate love of people who've loved and lost many times.
Sometimes, you tell them of how proud you are, of you how much you love them.
You mean the world and more, and I would give everything to protect you.
You're all doing so well, you're all so amazing.
No matter what, I'll be by your side. Nothing but the gods themselves can tear me away.
I love you.
You don't know how much, or if at all, gets through, but sometimes, you like to think that maybe a whisper got through.
They're getting better. They have good days and bad days. The grief and guilt and anger is still there, but they're learning to come to terms with their emotions. Their teammates are their at every step, ready to catch them when they fall.
For the first time in a long time, you're content.
Ichiro will grow big and strong, becoming a responsible and amazing adult. He'll be a kinder man than you could ever be.
Samatoki will stand tall and proud, his strength protecting as many as he can. He'll be far stronger than you could ever wish to be.
Ramuda will shine bright and cheerful, his love will be intense and encompassing. His love will be stronger and fiercer than you could ever hope to match.
Yotsutsuji will become great, a legend in his own right. Someday, he'll find his own path and strive to become better than you, to become someone far more amazing then yourself.
You know they'll be okay, and that fact sits contently in your heart.
They'll be okay.
Had anyone been able to see him, they would've seen a lavender-haired man leaning back against the wall, watching the Division Rap Battle teams. There's a smile on his face, his eyes are crinkled. He looks happy.
Slowly, he fades away, leaving behind nothing to ever show that he was there.
He's gone, but not forever. Maybe he's moved onto the afterlife, maybe he's gone from existence. But in the hearts of those who knew him, of those who've loved him, and he to them, he still there watching over them.

Please tell us about your OCs! As much as possible, don't hold back! :o
@yokairu Thank you, I hope this is at least a little interesting to read, it ended up a bit longer than I was hoping and basically a ramble. (Also a side note, I use to worry that Pupy-Luv and COPYCAT were dumb MC names then I remembered that Samatoki’s was Mr. Hardcore so they aren’t the worst at least)
I want my OCs to feel natural to the world, like they add to the story rather than co-exist with it so I want to put a lot of heart into their opinions of the other characters. Alongside that I want them to have their own plots/motives that are interesting but don’t overshadow any of the already established ones. This is all still WIP but all of Hypmic is honestly, so its only fitting that I have no idea whats happening with my OCs too.
Im still trying to figure out Kai’s story moving forward is but as for now I think it’s going to be working on the conflict he has with his brother.
When he first was enlisted for the battles he felt a bit of disappointment, he had left the rap battle scene long ago but it appears Chuuoku wouldn’t let him go so easily. Cerberus was once a feared name, but now any mention of it had been long forgotten and he was grateful for it. He was never the delinquent his group acted like they were, he was soft and thin skinned, he was a pup and the rut of the three too. His middle brother was accepting of that, he was accepting of everything, the only real punk of the three of them, really. He stood his ground and lived by his values, but he had a weak spot just like Kai did, that was their older brother. They lived for his acceptance and he used that against them whether he meant to or not, so they changed and bent to his will. Covered by long sleeves and thick makeup hides scars and piercings holes from his time under his brothers reign.
The meeting at the Chuuoku’s high walls were tense, while Cat and I hadn’t known Kai long we both couldn’t describe how alien it felt seeing him on edge. At this point we only knew what he had told us so we weren’t sure what was going through him at that moment. What was happening was an internal war as he tried to compose himself, he wanted nothing to do with his brother and he knows Chuuoku knew that too. He didn’t want to play into the narrative being set up for him so he avoided all mention of his eldest, not even bothering to give his teammates a glance. The day of the battle we won two-to-three and Kai was over joyed, he had beaten his brother and kept his identity under wraps as well!
However, that victory would be short lived and when all the teams had met together one last time he found his brother talking to the Buster Bros about the days of Cerberus. He couldn’t handle listening to his eldest spit their middle brothers name and to someone like Ichiro, who was an absolute saint compared to the hell hound himself. He tells himself now that he should’ve known better, but in that spur of a moment he couldn’t have stopped himself even if he wanted to. He was screaming things he had forgotten after his fit of rage and all his brother did was laugh because he knew, he knew this entire time who he was even under all the effort he tried using to hide it.
This has forced him to finally face a decision he’d been avoiding for a long time and it’s whether he wants clarity. He doesn’t know and he’s not sure he’s ready to try to find out just yet, but until then he has his team. All three of us have been through plenty and we won’t let his brother tear down what he spent so long making, no matter what. Kai just wants to be the proper big brother he didn’t get to have and he can’t let the people from his past take that from him.
For Cat I mainly wanna explore a different approach from Ramuda’s plot, Ramuda is fighting to be his own person aside from Chuuoku while Cat has had his freedom this entire time but is stuck in this loop of hating Chuuoku and wanting to be back under them. In a strange way he wants them to decide how he should feel for him by seeing their reaction when he does join Kai’s division. He isn’t sure what he wants for himself or even what most of his actions mean in hindsight, is everything he’s doing for or against them? He’s sure he’ll never know, however, theres only one thing the split parts of him can agree on, he absolutely hates Ramuda.
How could he not? The part of him still enslaved to Chuuoku hated him for being his replacement and the part that wanted his freedom hated him for keeping his ties with the hellish dictators. Honestly, Ramuda couldn’t care less for Cat’s pettiness, Jakurai is the main goal, so any rivalry the two could ever have is subsided. However, I feel when Ramuda does finally reveal his main goals of overturning the dictatorship Cat’s feelings of him would take twist. Not a jump from one-sided rivals to friends but rather a sort of dependency on Ramuda helping him through his feelings as a puppet. Both of them would need the help, honestly. No one else in the world will ever be in the same position those two are in and they’re the only ones they can turn to for reassurance.
Cat is just lost and angry that he is, indecision rots him to the core as he fights both parts of him that want two contradictory things. No one can blame him, he was built to serve one group and it was The Party of Words so now that he has to be independent he just doesn’t understand. But, hes going to try to and hope he can make the right choices to be the person he is rather than the tool they made him to be.
I made an entire fic based on the two of them and believe it or not I got them both ooc, but I thought it was sweet still. Even though Cat has had his freedom for so much longer than Ramuda he spent so much of it confused. The only reason I could explain Ramuda having a better understanding of trying to be human is because so much of his time under Chuuoku was daydreaming about his freedom when it was something handed to Cat without warning.
#🌺🌸#🐶🐱#Thank you for asking about them!#I was going to include their opinion of the members of other divisions but its already long enough#I hope this isnt boring to read I know it can be hard to care about ocs especially if their backstories are too invasive on the main plot#I may post the Ramuda and Cat fic; they really have this sad dynamic I wanna delve more into#plus they have that mannequin and clothing designer theme between them#I know I make Kais brother completely unlikable and thats a bit of the point but I do plan on balancing it a bit eventually#Give him a real back story and HOPEFULLY EVERYONE WILL HAVE A FULL NAME#His brothers MC name is Hell Hound#I apparently can only think of MC names#Also I was kinda thinking of keeping Cats name as just COPYCAT since he tech has no identity but that also feels lazy#I didnt do it on purpose but both of them are legit 'Fling Posse' and 'Buster Bros' gone wrong as people#Also one final thing#I was thinking about Doppos MC name and I thought i was strange because if I could only remember his MC name Id tech be on first name basis#when Id talk with him or at least until he told me his last name; so I was wondering why he didnt just go with his last name for his MC name#Kannonzaka; maybe it was too long I thought then I thought maybe he could shorten it to Kannon instead#THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE CANNON AND MY BRAIN WENT 'WHAT IF HIS MC NAME WAS LOOSE CANNON OR LOOSE KANNON#Its has so many layers to it!!! especially if he stylized it to Kannon too#Sorry I went hog wild thinking of a new MC name for Doppo in the tags of my ocs alsdjlasjdlk brain empty its really late#also if Kais and Cats read like they were written on two different days it because they were asdaksjhd Im sorry for taking so long#Forgive any of my goofs Im sure this may read weird or if I rephrase the same sentence too much Im hhh#Thank you for everything though youre amazing and I dont know how ill ever repay your kindness

Maou-jou 1 | Munou na Nana 1 | Grace of the Gods 1 | IWGP 1 | Akudama 1 | Crusade 1 | JJK 1 | HypMic 2 (also brief thoughts on the dog and cat TV short because I had them)
Maou-jou 1
I sampled this manga with what’s called a “Viz sampler”. I only ever seem to find those at libraries, so I’d assume only they and bookstores can get those.
…Twilight looks like Maou Sadao (Hataraku Maou-sama!).
“Dawner”??? I can read katakana, ya idjits. His name is Akatsuki. Update: The translator must’ve gone, “Dawn is a girl’s name. Let’s tack on an -er so it looks like a guy’s name.”
Aw, Hiro Shimono is Akatsuki. If it were Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, we could’ve gotten a Kirito joke out of it.
Oh! 快眠 (Kaimin) = good rest, literally “happy sleep”. Hence this is the nation of Goodreste. I see.
The lightning effect is soooooooooo cool! *eyes glitter at the particle effects*
I’m gonna die from cuteness from all the teddies and seals!
The little fanfare is so cute and the yokudekimashita reminds me of my days playing the arcade game Bomberman (which had a flower sticker much like this one). I wanna see this get a dub and succeed on all its merits! It’s basically my baby already…bar the fact it took a bit to work up to the first good bit of comedy.
The teddy demons are called Debiakuma, a pun on kuma (bear), devil and akuma (devil). Lessee…After “lesser demon”, there’s more text…“Fluffy bears that can be also used as pets. They give in easily to temptation. A lot of them live in the demon castle, so the princess likes to gather their fur, dye it and spin nice cotton out of it. Warning: A lot of them will either run away or call you their friend./Occasionally act as friends for the princess.”
LOL, I recognised that voice of the Scissors guy straight away…although I didn’t know who it belonged to. That’s Suwabe. (It doesn’t sound like Suwabe, I would’ve thought it to be Takuma Terashima or something.)
Aw, the Japanese version is more boring this time. It’s just Scissor Magician (in the singular for both).
*hears Scissors Demon going -ageruwa”, which is a feminine sentence ending…that’s Suwabe trying to (voice) act effeminate???!!!
These trumpet sounds never get old.
LOL, Siberian huskies dressed as Russians…
Okay, my turn again: Hari means needle, toge means thorn. Next to “His stomach is soft”, part of the subs are cut off due to Funimation’s hardsubs, but I can read “he is proud of his defence” on the 2nd line, “is the type to not refuse when relied on” on the 2nd-last line and “his favourite food is strange bird chawanmushi” on the last line.
I love how parts of the castle are upside down for no reason at all except to look cool…architects must hate that, though.
I hadn’t heard of “seesaw battles” until now. but the metaphor does make sense...kind of.
What about changing the mattress? Update: She does do that…kind of.
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Kirito was under my nose all along! Damn Demon Kinggggggggggggggggggg!
Kamina glasses on one of the background trees! Cute tapir! Ahhhhhhhh, it’s so cuteeeeeeee!
Anyways, that’s a fun show. Not as fun as HypMic, but still fun after it gains momentum.
Munou na Nana 1
I remember seeing spoilers for a twist at the end…let’s hope I don’t anticipate it. That would kill the entire anime for me.
The message actually says something about how the island is a nest for enemies of humanity.
There’s the ice narcissist I saw in the promo stuff, right on cue. I’ve never heard of his voice actor Hiromichi Tezuka before, although he does sound like Hiroshi Kamiya or someone much better.
Why do I get the feeling once the title character arrives, even Nanao will get powers…? Or maybe Nana is the catalyst for Nanao’s powers awakening or something? (Just realised having a Nana and a Nanao together in the same anime is confusing…)
Subbers spelt “noblesse oblige” wrong, unless it was deliberately done as such.
I predicted the “duke it out” line.
There’s a menu on the wall of the restaurant.
Maybe Nanao’s “talent” is his leadership stat or something?
Or maybe even Nanao is an enemy of humanity and doesn’t know it? (Sorry, speculation going into overdrive…that usually happens with superpower works like this for me, because I like to analyse them.)
Maybe Nanao can see the future, like the protag from Koi to Producer?
Technically, shouldn’t ice be weak against fire…? Or am I too used to the Pokemon system?
Called it! Nanao has a hidden power! (That reminds me: I still don’t know what Lucien’s (from Koi to Producer’s) power really is.)
Vigilantes is really good at exploring how people can expand on their own powers.
…wow, I heard rumours that the main character was going to die, but I’d pegged Nana to die, not Nanao.
Onodera is clearly important…maybe he was the one with the wind powers? Or was Nana lying about that?
…dude, the red eyes are kinda obvious that Nana is evil in some way, or at least really devious.
Grace of the Gods 1
All I really know of this is that it’s got slimes and it’s an isekai/SoL hybrid…That’s it.
…I am not, I repeat NOT, on board for a harem centred around an 11 year old!
Ryoma speaks with an unnatural amount of starts and stops, hence the caveman speak.
What’s Jil’s role in the party…?
Why would you even need to know 4 high-level skills? Isn’t it better to know all of them?
LOL, I knew the isekaid guy was meant to have a hard life so he could start over with slimes, but…stick Doppo in this and it’s basically the same thing. At least Doppo tries to resist his bosses behind their backs, this guy just did the whole gaman thing and look where that got him!
If he worked for a black company with no overtime and so forth, how did he know about a recent anime trend, eh??? Sounds suspect. Update: Unless he was thinking about 90s isekai, which still involved less reincarnation than this.
I noticed the gods have senbei (the rice crackers with the seaweed). Western-looking gods probably shouldn’t have senbei, unless…they did that to make Ryoma feel more at home?
Seriously, how does a guy with no overtime still have time for online games? Even if he were getting just ads for them, he probably wouldn’t have paid enough attention to be able to figure out what the cliches are, right? Either that, or the Dragon Quest system is older than I think it is.
Slimes don’t have paws…or hands or other appendages…to give…
…I’m not sure what to think there. Am I meant to think the slimes are cute? Am I meant to think the catgirls/animal girls are cute? The answer to those questions is “no”, so…eh.
IWGP 1
Basically, I chose this for associations with HypMic.
…the best first impression involves a CGI car. Of course. <- (sarcastic)
Given HypMic, I almost expected a rap battle…nahhhh…Rap battles don’t look so cool outside HypMic, man.
The owl is a pun. Fukurou (owl) matches ‘bukuro (bag, which is the 2nd character in “Ikebukuro”). There’s also an owl statue used as a meeting spot, much like Hachiko in Shibuya…(I learnt a bunch of things about the division territory through HypMic. Let me show off…)
I think the character designer for this anime also did Joker Game…that’s throwing me off a little. Also, they had a prime opportunity to use a Buster Bros song, so I’m still a bit miffed about that – this OP’s kinda standard. Update: The character designer is Junichiro Taniguchi – my insinct was wrong on him. He did Touken Ranbu Hanamaru’s character designs.
“Smoking kills” – Yuuuuuuuup. That’s true.
Why do I get the feeling all the male otaku will wanna bang Makoto’s mother (to put it lightly)…?
Curiously, the one who hates drugs in HypMic is Jyuto, who’s not from Ikebukuro Division at all. Hmm…
Yokoyama’s voice sounds familiar…but I’m not sure why. Update: If I had to guess, I’d say he’s Saito Soma or someone who sounds similar, so maybe Takuma Terashima, Daisuke Ono or something like that. Update 2: Takahiro Sakurai. See? I knew I knew that voice.
“Big Rei” (“Rei-nii”). That’s different from Ichi-nii (what Saburo calls Ichiro) and could also be goroawase for 02.
Uni of Tokyo is the most prestigious uni in Japan. It has quite the reputation.
…is it just me, or does Makoto have a piercing in his left ear? IWGP also happens to happily work with my existing character, although said character has a piercing in his right ear.
Zero One kinda looks like Uta (Tokyo Ghoul), LOL.
…and of course the girl has to rely on the dude. *sigh* Welp, we can throw drugs off the list for “things that count as TV-MA to Funimation” – IWGP is rated M (not 15+ explicitly, but that’s what it stands for normally) in my region.
This ED song…that’s the sort of song I was expecting from HypMic, Akudama or this.
Seems both Makoto and Takashi have earrings…maybe in both ears? Takashi’s are yellow, I could confirm that much.
…this is decent, but putting it up against its competitors is a bit harsh.
Crusade 1 (cont. from sneak peek - it’s in the title here because this is where it’s completed)
Turns out that preview was most of the episode…like “14 of 24 minutes” long.
Wait, how did Alice fall forward and end up in the princess carry pose? I remember having trouble with that when a character in a story of mine had the same problem.
…Iska-nii…(?)
That opera house looks pretty darn modern to me…
…eh…that was middling. Nothing any ol’ adaption of Romeo and Juliet couldn’t do, bar the CGI for the magic fight in the middle. (There was a fluffy griffin thing in the middle there, though.)
Akudama 1
Ume + Kimura and a cool urban aesthetic. Let’s go!
This is kinda Tron-like, eh?
Ooh, now it’s more like Cop Craft.
Kimura seems to use his gruffer voice more than his Ichiro voice, but Ume is actually worse on that fron with his ordinary voice…Welp, at least his ordinary voice sounds like it fits right in with the Courier. I almost expect an Ocean’s Eleven thing (or Now You See Me, since I’ve actually watched that) from this. Update: Turns out Kimura is the pompadour guy, not the fighter.
You can tell Ordinary Person is an okay person because she keeps saving cats. A bit cliché, but it’ll do.
Ohhhhhh…I can see where this plotline is going. Ordinary Person pretends to be Swindler to get herself out of this mess, but then she keeps getting involved with the Akudama. It’s a typical plot for a typical gal, common to insert a viewpoint character in series that require one, or a magical girl ally.
Wow, those missiles look like a**.
LOL, Hoodlum’s sentence is kinda measly in comparison to most of them. Plus, when he yelled, that sounded more accurate to Ichiro than Fighter was, so…yeah, sorry I messed up.
…Ordinary Person has some real bullseye…uh, eyes.
This could be a top contender…aside from the CGI, which does look a bit funky. I’m getting a death game vibe here, but I don’t know if that’s really the case. Also, it’s a lot of fun, but the possible intolerable thing here is Ordinary Person’s screaming – the pretense she has to keep up seems like it’ll fit right in though.
JJK 1
I read the manga once, dropped it and then read it again and didn’t realise why I dropped it.
Fushiguro has long eyelashes, tbh. Itadori comments on that at one point, I think.
Oh, it was a fish (carp) in the manga. I couldn’t figure out what the Japanese equivalent was just from the Kokkuri board.
This track club teacher is a bit of a freak, honestly. Meddling in kids’ affairs is probably illegal to some extent.
Itadori is known as “tiger” because the kanji for “tiger” is in the surname. Update: Also, the Czech dude Mirko was called “the Croatian tiger”, if a tweet I read is any indication.
I like how there’s more comedy in this one. They show the world records, so you have standards to compare Itadori against.
This is an almost beat-for-beat adaption, bar the slight comedy of the records being added (and not explaning who Mirko is). The contrast makes this better.
“People really can die.” – That’s summoning some real energy of “People die when they are killed.”
(Brief thoughts on the dog and cat short: I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. The picture of a realistic cat – someone’s actual photo of their cat?- that serves as a punchline never gets old and in fact, sometimes contributes to the humour.)
HypMic 2
LOL, TV-MA warning strikes again.
“Kore wa prologue/Hajimete no ippo/Fumidasanai yatsu ni wa/???? shinpo.” – The translation is really good for the bits I can read…the problem is I can’t read the bottom left corner. Update: The part in the bottom left is nai...That’s it.
…uh, even people from around the world can read 24 hour time??? You don’t need subs to read Arabic numerals???
…couldn’t you have just told Ichiro verbally, Saburo…? Update: Come to think of it, kids these days are more on their phones than ever, so it makes sense but also kind of doesn’t.
You don’t really need subs for laughter either…
I’d never heard of “pulling rank” before…hmm: “to use one's high position in a society, organization, group, etc., to order someone to do something or to get special treatment or privileges.”
…and here comes the F word here to mess with us again. Japanese nastiness is conveyed using words that might be considered “soft” in English, hence the sudden jump to use the F word a bunch, but the subbers could use some variety in their swearing. I mean, “dips**t” worked where it did because subbers made Samatoki go overboard with the F word, but…you could stand to use that more, maybe(?)
I like how even the Tenderloins guy rhymes where he’s meant to. It’s the prelude to a battle, after all. (He kinda looks like Kotaro from Zombieland Saga.)
…I freaked out for a second. I swore I saw a similar-looking restaurant (udon shop, located on the left of one of the shots) while in Japan. Also, we finally get to see Ichiro’s reputation at work.
…I still have no idea what a “steelo” is after all this time, but I didn’t realise I was staring at a part of Ore ga Ichiro until I saw it in context. Also, it was kinda derpy – but still really in character – for Ichiro to run to his destination with his arms up like the Glico man in Osaka (except he had his head down).
I get a weird feeling the subbers may have used the wiki translation because I’m using it as a reference and the language seems oddly similar for the most part…
The kick Ichiro does seems like it references the OP.
Notice the location is Nishiguchi Kouen…the West Gate Park. *raises eyebrows at the IWGP anime*
…oh! It occurred to me that the sign the BB do with their hands is…well, a lowercase B. (LOL, if you read my previous line funny, it rhymes.)
Gentaro doing the peace sign to his chest…that was random the first time, because it doesn’t seem in character, but then it does for Dice and possibly Ramuda, so Gentaro probably just chose to go along with it (“to add to his image as a rapper,” maybe…?).
Oh, Saburo has airpods in…those aren’t good for blocking sound, are they…?
Notice the owl on the…uh, café(?)…Ichiro goes to.
That one “holy shit!” made me laugh like a madman. Where it came from, I don’t know, but it was so random I had to laugh at it.
This makes me wonder…if you use a mic that’s different to your personal mic, does it produce the same speakers? No one’s ever addressed that before (much like how no one questions if magical girls always need the same transformation device – I wanted to make a plot on that someday, but I can’t seem to find a comprehensible way to pull it off…LOL, that reminds me, I even had a HypMic version of that featuring Samatoki at one point, but it probably makes even less sense than the standard one because it activates via physical contact. It’s notable – in my head – for Nemu’s version of the “power” being “Samatoki can’t swear, no matter how hard he tries”).
I’m pretty sure that round thing wasn’t part of Ichiro’s rings, ever. (…Unless that was the head of his spoon or something.)
…Microwave? (referring to the shot inside the hospital, which seems to be based off ARB)
The series normally transitions from BB -> MTC -> FP -> MTR, so it was interesting to see that shuffled up. Update: That’s if it has to have an order, but notably ARB breaks this standard a lot by assigning colours to each solo and then arranging interactions based on not repeating those colours (aside from the Sky High Tower event). With 4 things there are 4! = 24 possible combinations and 6! = 720 possible combinations if you count DH and BAT, so as we move forward with those 2 divisions...prepare for more shuffling.
…is Jiro gonna steal a ball? I thought it was just bikes anime characters stole. (LOL)
The mic changes the background, too, huh? Never expected that from more than the speakers.
…and of course, s*** explodes and the day is saved once again....by the Buster Bros!!! (LOL, but also *sigh*)
Hmm, so this anime’s real plotline probably involves this trio: Rex, Tom and Iris. They’re probably foreign in some way, judging by Tom and Rex. Maybe they’re aligned with a foreign government or something? Update: If you look at the credits, their full names seem to be Tom Whisper Weathercock, Iris Innocent Traiter (sic) (LOL) and…Taroumaru Rex…? (romanisations confirmed for all katakana)
Sadamezuka was voiced by the ubiquitous Kenjiro Tsuda.
It seems Cola Bintarou (aka Subaru Kimura) was on the case again today. He wrote the new song for BB, called RUN THIS CITY, along with Gesshoku Kaigi.
Of course, I’m going to keep this anime on my list...I’m just a bit worried about myself going forward, because I realised my ego got a bit inflated trying to defend the series from haters. I’ve never had a series where I’ve been a fan from the beginning that wasn’t already a known quantity for a while (Muhyo and Roji’s, Furuba). With Boueibu, I was discovering things alongside other people (or even later in a lot of cases) since it was anime-original.
