Videogames I wish were real #89
A game where your character is an artist and you have to manage their stall when they go to conventions, as well as decide what they'll be drawing next (sort of like the artist or writer professions in The Sims. You can make your character watch movies, listen to music, read books, go on walks, etc, to help them get inspiration, as well as making sure they get enough hours of sleep or do some hand stretches. Depending on your character's traits, some things might resonate more with them, and make them want to do more of a certain type of art or get more into in certain fandoms or art styles. You'll get to craft your own path: Traditional or digital? A realistic style or a cartoonish style? Fanart or original works? Huge pieces that take a couple weeks to complete or quicker drawings that can be completed in a couple hours? Do you take commissions often or prefer to work on your on projects? You can make all kinds of decisions, but nothing is mutually exclusive, you can mix and match however you want to and decide to give your career a new angle at any time. You decide what type of artist your character wants to be. Maybe they want to experiment with lots of styles or mediums, or really focus in a certain niche or themes. Every couple of months you'll be able to attend conventions, but before going to one you'll need to order the merch you'll be selling: stickers? keychains? prints? posters? tote bags? fanzines...? You get to pick what sales angle and what type of artist you want to be. Bit by bit, your fans and reputation will start to grow, and eventually, slowly but steadily you will become a successful artist able to make a living out of their passion, just like you'd always dreamed about.

Super Mario Wonder has been out for over a week now and I have beaten it 100% not long after release, so may as well discuss it, shall we?
Spoiler warnings in full effect, since I like to be able to discuss basically everything I’d like, just to clear that up right off the bat.
SMW is the first, for the lack of a better term, normal 2D Mario in over a decade at this point, so naturally, everyone was looking forward to seeing what they’d do next, especially with the step away from the NSMB series, which was really needed by that point.
The NSMB games are also by necessity, the main games to compare Wonder to, given for how long they have been the most recent incarnation of 2D Mario. On that note, this is not meant to be a hit piece on those games. All of them are fine and I am particularly fond of DS and Wii, however they did have problems and it’s hard to think of an area where Wonder isn’t just an unambiguous improvement.
Those improvements already begin in a rather surprising spot: the story.
2D Mario is actually a fair bit more varied in it’s set-ups than it can appear at first, Prior to NSMB it was really just SMB1 and Lost Levels that went with the Bowser kidnaps Peach plot, without much else surrounding it. SMB3 starts as a journey to turn the 7 kings back to normal, with Bowser only kidnapping Peach near the end as a last resort and World, while sticking largely to the base, takes place in a completely new setting. That’s not even going into SMB2 or the Land games, which are all breaks from what we see as the Mario norm in some way. New kingdoms, new characters, new villains and bosses, new a lot of things really.
Wonder in that regard really feels like a return to that. A whole new kingdom once more, with a new companion and NPC species and while Bowser is the big bad, he doesn’t engage in any royalty kidnapping and instead goes after a new power source, which transforms him and he stays that way all the way until defeated. It’s simple, as is typical for Mario, but it is a lot more refreshing than the very samey NSMB plots, which took until U to really add a twist to it and even then failed to do all that much with it, particularly with a level theme as neat as Peach’s Castle taken over by Bowser.
What surprised me even more was how every world had a bit of its own story going on, with the Poplins giving you an idea of what kind of trouble Jr and Bowser’s actions in general, were causing them. A particular stand-out for me was World 3, which doesn’t even have a boss and is instead treated as a series of trials, to obtain a Royal Seed that Bowser hasn’t gotten his hands on.
As with the main story, it never goes especially deep, but it goes a long way to make the Flower Kingdom feel like an actual world, in stark contrast to the Mushroom Kingdom of NSMB games, which was very much just a videogame world for function as a videogame world, doing it’s job and not much more.
The visuals have also seen a refreshing shake-up. Granted, even NSMBU got better about it by U, but even compared to that, I find the visual design of the Flower Kingdom locales to be substantially more appealing, not to mention imaginative. Fungi Mines in particular is full of designs I am a fan of and even a new level theme with its ruins, which isn’t the only time the game diverts and goes for something totally new.
In general, while the game holds true to most of the typical level themes, the aesthetics are so varied that they don’t even really feel that way. This is something you feel as early as World 1, while it functionally serves as the Grassland of the day, it rarely feels that way because the visuals change up enough to not make it feel like a static world theme. It also helps that the order has been changed a bit. You wouldn’t imagine how refreshing it is to not have the Desert be the second world.
The biggest visual highlight of the stages for me were the airship levels, genuinely cool and climactic, in a way that made me pause and just go ‘’woah’’ and I can’t say I feel that way a lot in 2D Mario, but this game brought that out several times.
Of course, the big show stealers are the characters themselves and yeah, everything people say is true. They look great, every animation is filled with personality and detail and there is even some nice stylization, like the sideways mouths for Mario, Luigi and the Toads, which help bring the models in line with the current style of 2D Mario.
Everyone and their grandparents has already made comparisons to the NSMB games and that’s because it is ultimately true. If anything this is one of the best things to point to where these games have different mindsets.
NSMB treated the models more like sprites than anything, going for something functional, with very little flavor, while Wonder is determined to fill its animations with as much charm as possible. Even little things like the characters striking poses when collecting a power-up or reacting to mooks about to get out of their shells, goes a long way in bringing those characters alive, instead of treating them like game pieces that carry out their function and that’s it.
In terms of music it has some stand-outs and the rest is at worst, easy on the ears, about what I expect and everything fits the mood of the stage well, no complaints.
More pressingly in terms of audio is that this is the first time we are hearing the new voices for several characters, most notably Mario. Luigi and Daisy and overall I think they all do a wonderful job, I’m already used to all of them.
It’s also just refreshing to have a set of fresh new voice clips this thoroughly across the board. Mario has never been a stranger to reused voice clips even early on, but by the Wii U era it became even more noticeable than usual and in past years, genuinely a bit distracting, so I am happy Wonder does not fall victim to that.
And then we got the gameplay, of course the most important factor of all and where I have plenty more to gush about.
A notable thing about Wonder is that it has some 3D Mario veterans on the team and to be honest, it shows.
There are some more overt inspirations, such as Petal Isles essentially serving as the hub world of the game, a Shadow Mario type wonder effect or being able to find (Captain) Toad on the overworld in exchange for rewards, as has been his role in the 3D games since 3D Land.
Even taking that aside though, while the game is fundamentally still 2D Mario as we all know it, many of its ideas and gimmicks can sometimes feel more like missions in a 3D Mario game, which I very much mean as a compliment. This is further underlined by stuff like the Wiggler Races, timed enemy gauntlets, Badge Challenges or Search Party sections. In general, there is a surprising variety to the kind of things you get tasked with, which is refreshing.
The characters control quite similarly to the NSMB games, even including nuances like Ground Pound canceling and because of it, control like a dream. The only major difference being that you can crouch walk and that the triple jump is gone. The latter was something I expected to miss, but the levels are designed in a way that never made me feel that way.
While almost everyone plays the same, badges do help bring in variety to make up for it. I stuck with Parachute for just being that fun and useful for me, but I did mess around with a couple and am eager to experiment with it and also play more with the expert badges. I can easily see a ton of replayability options completely new to the series, through them.
It does bring me to my first little gripe, which is the Yoshis being stuck to being designated Easy Mode options. I totally get wanting a full set of 4 for multiplayer, but a simple toggle would have been appreciated. Yoshi does play differently and is still fun, but I’d like a way to play him as a more normal character. Same moveset, but without Easy Mode-like benefits.
What I said about levels being more visually diverse also applies to the level elements. Sometimes it’s small things like the fountain springs in the very first level, but even beyond that the game is so full of new enemies and ideas that it feels a lot like SMB3, in terms of bringing in distinct level concepts one after another. It is miles above NSMB which granted, had plenty stand-out stages too across the series, but also a lot that felt samey, especially as the series went on and some gimmicks were repeated.
The power-ups also hold their own well. Elephant even once you get the initial whut factor out of the way is fun and really the star of certain sections, Drill has some really cool applications and the Bubble Flower is easily my favorite of them all. I love a power-up that has both offensive and platforming uses and this one, especially combined with badges, allows for some really fun stuff.
The Wonder effects are of course the star of the show and a contributor to every level feeling so distinct. The amount of different ideas they came up with and how well they all work, is truly astounding and it’s remarkable how few of them repeat. The balloon or rolling ball Wonder Effects would have been recurring gimmicks in other games, but here, you do them once and twice respectively and move on.
All this combined makes for a remarkably fresh feeling 2D Mario, which was desperately needed and did a lot to elevate the game to something exciting and genuinely addicting.
The bosses are…a bit more of a mixed bag. I like that not every world has one and that does help with the risk of repetition, because aside from the final boss it’s all Bowser Jr. They could be worse, the Wonder effects do help a little, but it’s still full of the same kind of repetitive boss design the Koopalings get flack for, especially the spinning shell bits. They are serviceable, but that’s it and the airship bosses I don’t even count, they are fancy flagpoles.
The final boss though, I actually liked a lot, Bowser’s general state in this game was always going to make it stand out, but more than anything, it isn’t a rehash, it isn’t over in barely any time and it’s not another Bowser over the bridge. It’s new, it lasts long enough to feel satisfying, it feels right in difficulty, it’s just shockingly good.
Speaking of difficulty, that is a thing I heard a lot about when the game got into the hands of people early and to be honest….I don’t really see the supposed difficulty. It does want you to pay attention and that is good, but on the whole I find the game to be pretty breezy. Even the Special World and designated final reward level, were really not that tough. Not that that’s a bad thing though, it is a joyride kind of easy and not the braindead kind.
Haven’t really dabbled into the online or multiplayer, but do plan on that with a friend, so that’s gonna be fun to discover for my second run.
On the whole yeah, I love Wonder, major shocker. It really is a promising next step for 2D Mario, not being afraid to be wacky, full of character, legit fresh and exciting, a true evolution of the formular.
It’s not flawless, but it is an absolute joy and really, any platformer that lets me play as Toadette gets major brownie points out of the gate.
It’s Mario, Mario in his strongest form and I couldn’t be happier.

Eight shows to get to know you :) I was tagged by @thetideseternaltune
I’ve taken the ‘getting to know me’ part to heart - I don’t even follow tags for all these shows on tumblr. They are not necessarily my favourite right now, nor are they the shows I write/read fanfic for.
In no particular order:
Numb3rs - I grew up without a tv, so numb3rs was the first show I really picked out for myself, and I started watching it when I was ~15. It’s the only show I’ve ever gone out and bought every season of for myself. It’s just a really solid monster of the week detective show, with subtle and charming characters who are not too closely involved in the plots they investigate. Which is exactly my jam. One of my friends watched Numb3rs and chatted with me briefly about it, but I’ve otherwise never fangirled over it with anyone. Even though I still count it as one of my favourite shows of all time 15 years down the track. I’ve actually never read fanfic for Numb3rs, and I know next to nothing about the making of. I wouldn’t recognise the names of the actors or any of the showrunners, which is actually my ideal media consumption experience xD
Buffy - First show I ever watched while surrounded by people who are obsessed with the show, and I had an excellent time with it. It was interesting because all my friends were teenagers when they watched it for the first time, but I was in my early twenties, and it was really interesting to see where my experiences of the show diverged from theirs. I don’t usually read Buffy fanfic, and some of my Buffy opinions are pretty controversial :P I think seasons 4-6 are the best, and I love Riley which seems to really bother some of my friends xD
Fallet - This show is a fucking fever dream. It took me a whole episode to work out that it was a comedy, it had some real ‘Douglas Adams’ vibes at the end, which was fun. It’s a murder mystery set in sweden that uses a mix of swedish and english, and it is best described as ‘kooky.’ My only IRL friend who watched it (after much nagging) did so while slightly feverish with covid. They seemed to have a good time, but I would not recommend doing this xD It’s wild enough without the delirium.
Vera - the quintessential ‘slow moving, episodic, british murder mystery.’ Vera is awesome (especially in the early seasons) for just being really fucking good. My favourite thing about this show is the leading lady - Vera is a grumpy, frumpy, middle aged woman without a maternal bone in her body. I am so sick of women needing to be kind and selfless to be a protagonist.
VGHS - now for something completely different! It’s a show made by a youtube special effects guy about a high school where you learn to play videogames. And it made me cry. A death notification set to an in-universe laugh track? Sign me up! It’s mostly super goofy, and the main character is way less interesting than all his friends, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Probably the closest thing to a pure comedy I will watch, but it makes it oddly poignant moments all the sweeter. Also, 10/10 ending. I don’t read fanfic of it either, and these days I’m waaay too old for the characters personally. I definitely had a bit of a thing for the main character’s gf tho. Ngl.
Shetland - I do this thing where I avoid looking at fan content for a show if I’m enjoying it on its own merits, because I want to experience it without the brain rot. Kinda weird, but it works for me. Shetland is funny because I could immediately see a pairing I wanted to explore, but I waited years for the show to go downhill before I let myself open ao3. Luckily, I think they caught up with the books, and changed hands around season 4ish, because the quality nosedived and I have read and written so many things for Jimmy/Duncan, and do not intend to stop xD I actually haven’t had the heart to watch the latest season, because I don’t think I’ll enjoy it all that much. Cool theme song though! And everyone should watch the early short seasons.
Capitani - I hate the hays code. And not just because of the moralising and the homophobia - it makes storytelling predictable. The impact it continues to have on all english speaking media is never more obvious than when you watch something from another part of the world and are completely blindsided by the emotional arc. Capitani fucking killed me. I’ve read that Capitani is Luxembourg’s only globally successful media product. I don’t know if that’s true, but I wasn’t sure if Luxembourg was a country or a city before I watched it, so it’s probably not far from the truth. I now have a fun little rap song in Luxembourgish on my spotify playlist! It won my heart forever when they set up a joke and completed it four episodes later without any call backs. Imagine having that much faith in your audience! I would read the shit out of fanfiction of the fucked up love story between Capitani and Karla, but unfortunately, there is none :(
MASH - My ex step father owned every season of MASH on DVD, and when I was 14 my friend and I would rush to my house to watch them while having sit-up competitions. I don’t know why this was a fun activity for two 14 year old girls, but I have so many fond memories of this time. It was the first tv show I ever watched sequentially, and the first show I ever watched start to finish. It was also the reason I beat all the boys in my class when we had to do those fitness tests in PE! xD I’m personally a bigger fan of the show post-season 3 when they had the big tone shift. While there are definitely funny scenes, the image in my head when someone mentions MASH is always Charles smashing up his record player. So while it’s famous as a comedy, that’s not really how I remember it. I keep meaning to go look up the show on ao3, because I am sooo curious about what the common pairings are, and what kind of tone the fics take.
I had a lot of fun with this :) Thanks for tagging me! I’m way too shy to tag eight people, but would love to hear about the viewing past of: @republicofgaypirates @galadriel1010 @leliesblou @scullyverse @justplainsalty

What Lego Sonic Sets Could We See in the Future?
Out of the dozens of ideas I had for my comeback article, Lego certainly wasn’t one of them, yet here we are, because we’re finally getting 5 official Lego Sonic sets in less than three weeks (August 2023) and all I’ve been thinking about are which ones I should buy. So to take a break from that, what about thinking about what sets we could and should be able to buy in the future?
I feel like more Sonic “Speed Sphere” sets are inevitable, it is a great gimmick for kids to play with. With Chemical Plant Zone and Studiopolis Zone already being in other Sonic toy sets, I feel like Speed Sphere sets based on these zones are highly likely. City Escape could be another great choice with the steep slopes and getting to build small buildings. But I’m more interested in sets of locations in the series, so let’s move on.
I think an absolute must for the next set is an Angel Island set with a Knuckles minifigure. This would have to be a smaller version of the island, such as version we saw in Sonic Adventure, but the island itself with the Master Emerald, its shrine, and the Knuckles figure to guard it would be cool, maybe one or two palm trees for it and a sand-colored trim would look nice but they’re not necessary. Clear poles to hold up Angel Island since it floats would be great for shelf-display purposes.
I’d say a set with Shadow and Rouge minifigures with an Omega brick-build character is another necessary one akin to the Angel Island set, but this trio of anti-heroes doesn’t really have a base or an iconic setting piece. However, since sets from the first wave included jet skis and hoverboards, Shadow’s motorcycle could be included. If SEGA or Lego don’t have a location in mind either, sell this set as it is with a lower price tag such as $25. It would be a mistake not to include these minifigures in the line-up in some way or form.
If we ever get more Eggman sets, additional minifigures that should be included are Metal Sonic and Orbot to go with the Cubot one that’s coming out in the first wave.
I feel like the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2 would be an excellent choice. Despite being a small sandbox, it is extremely iconic and so many people would love this on their shelves. The first Lego Sonic set wave included play pieces for Amy Rose to take care of animal critters, so why not have a Chao set with similar themes? That would make this a great set for kids and adults alike. I’m not sure what minifigure should be included with this set, however. Cream is a possible suggestion, plus she’s not from Sonic Adventure 2, but I already have a set in mind for her. Despite it not being a logical fit, perhaps Silver could be in this set because there isn’t a otherwise reasonable set for him to be a part of and he does have a tenderhearted nature.
A set with Cream and Vanilla’s house could be cool, with Cream and Blaze minifigures (unfortunately Vanilla may not sell well) and brick-build version of Gemerl as an additional character. While this place exists in Sonic Rush we never get to see it there, however the IDW Comics are considered canon to the videogame lore and Cream’s house is a frequent place to visit. Sonic and his friends seem to stop by there often, and Blaze usually makes sure to visit Cream when she comes from her own dimension. It is also worth mentioning Blaze should be in this set since she’d likely not have a set of her own. Cream’s two chao, Cheese and Chocola, should be included also.
Continuing with even less likely possibilities, a Chaotix Detectives set would be nice. Similar to the Team Dark set with Shadow/Rouge/Omega, it could just be a smaller set for the sake of adding minifigures of the characters, but they did run their detective agency in their house in both the IDW Comics and Sonic X, and it’s not out of the question to include their home as a building similar to Tails’s workshop in the set. Trinkets in the house could include Vector’s desk and a phone/fax machine, missing posters, and an assortment of Ninja gadgets for Espio.
Even less likely, though I don’t feel that this is impossible, is a set of the Resistance/Restoration bunker from Sonic Forces and the comics, with minifigures of the comic characters that make up the new Diamond Cutters (Whisper, Tangle, Lanolin). The biggest problem with this is that not everyone reads comics. Whisper and Tangle already appeared as playable characters in Sonic Dash though, with Tangle being acknowledged as a canon character in Sonic Frontiers. Whisper and Tangle even had plush toys made by GE for their popularity. I believe the possibility/probability of this set strictly hinges on if the Diamond Cutters ever make it into one of the next games, as there isn’t enough widespread knowledge of these characters to a casual audience to justify a set like this as of now.
Honestly, even the Cream’s house set and the Chaotix Detective Agency set would hinge on similar factors. But I do believe it is possible that Lego would be willing to take such risks because of how many characters they’ve included in their Super Mario branded sets. If Lego was willing to go into obscure territory with various enemies and The Koopalings, they may be willing to do the same for Sonic if sales prove it to be worth the risk.
So while it’s a cheesy way to end the article, the best thing you can do to make any of these sets a reality is buying one or more of the new ones releasing August 1st, 2023. What sets would you love to see appear for the next waves of Lego Sonic? Please share your thoughts in the comments, because I genuinely love talking with the Sonic community.

Have you seen the Mario movie? Is it better than Sonic 2?
(Whoops, forgot I was actually going to reply weeks ago, my bad)
It was a fine 7/10 experience. Very exciting when you're picking up references the moment they show up, but as soon as the movie ends I felt rather empty. I sat there with my friends as we all said "wait, that's all?"
I didn't have any expectations for it other than "it'll be a Mario movie", but even with that, the movie went by so fast and the only truly memorable thing we kept bringing up since watching it was Peaches. Everything else we discussed in the weeks since its release was either a bit too shallow or just embarrassing, like the licensed music selection they used (nevermind the fact I was reminded of Shrek 2 the moment Holding Out For A Hero started playing, oh and Take On Me reminded me of Deadpool, not in a good way though)
I don't remember exactly who was it, but a creator I follow said it feels like a virtual theme park that barely gives you enough time to take in the scenery before you move on to the next attraction and he's 100% right. Pretty CGI and thousands of references kept me engaged in the moment, but nowadays I kinda feel underwhelmed when I think about the movie.
Maybe if they fleshed out a couple of things that were set up and dropped just as quick (like that one moment with Mario and DK inside the eel I wished it went for a more emotional angle like Sonic and Knuckles' beach scene in Sonic 2), then I'd have a bit more to think about the movie. As it stands right now, it works perfectly as a videogame adaptation, nothing more, nothing less. Sing along to Peaches and hope for the best.

Mmh, so, it's been a little while, I thought I'd do a little catchup post for the past couple years.
Good Things:
Still in a LDR with @mercurialmalcontent. Hi, darling, I love your whole face.
Bea is 10 as of this year and continues to be terrifying and adorable and terrifyingly adorable.
Tumblr media
She did have some vet incidents this year--along with her check-up, she had to get her teeth cleaned. If you've never had a cat's teeth cleaned before, this means she had to get konked out, and oh boy she wasn't happy with me when she woke back up again, but all is well. It turns out she really likes the dental chicken treats!
Also at some point my poor baby got an ingrown toenail. It was easily fixable, at least, and they gave her a cute sheep bandage that matched her eyes:
Tumblr media
But all that aside, my murderpuff has a clean bill of health, and thanks to some savings, it didn't entirely gouge my bank.
Tumblr media
I have been gleefully absorbing myself in various shows here and there. The Owl House and Our Flag Means Death and What We Do in the Shadows are the most recent fandomy things. I had a lot of fun with The Witcher! (although I still need to catch up on season 2) Luka played Witcher 3 at some point and wow that game is amazing--the stories, the graphics, the music, the monsters, the voice acting, all of it A+++. Still glomming my eyeballs all over One Piece and Mob Psycho and Heaven's Design Team.
I've also been catching up on horror movies! These are often things I avoided like the plague because when I was little I used to think that if I watched things like The Exorcist or Scream or Hellraiser or Evil Dead, MY SENSITIVE SUGARSPUN SOUL WOULD BE TRAUMATIZED FOREVER, but I am continually surprised at how good these stories end up being. I even managed to get through Poltergeist, which I hadn't seen since my mother made me watch it when I was nine. Lots of women helping each other, and familial love, and all kinds of really interesting themes mixed in with it that I was too traumatized to really notice when I was a wee kidlet trying not to bodily expire at the sight of that FREAKIN CLOWN DOLL
As for videogames, I primarily live in FFXIV these days. (I still dip a toe in Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, The Secret World, and Minecraft sometimes though.) The Shadowbringer and Endwalker expansions absolutely blew me away, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Tumblr media
I have been devouring lots of comics. Current favorites include: Kill Six Billion Demons, Everything is Fine, Unsounded, The Sea in You, Sink Your Hookteeth, Castle Swimmer, Shot & Chaser, Path to Timbala, Solivaga, Mias and Elle, and Feral Gentry. Got any recommendations? GIMMIE. :D
Things are mostly uneventful on the writing front. Still writing, still editing people's projects, but mostly I'm just sort of over here in my little corner chipping away at a few original stories as well as a pile of fics for ao3. It's slow going, but it's going.
Crappy Things:
I got a type 2 diabetes diagnosis sometime in May of 2019. I've been handling it pretty okay--my a1c is down to 5.8 as of my last doctor appointment! It's also been a weirdly fun opportunity to learn some new recipes and figure out how low glycemic foods work, so there's that.
I'm still struggling with CFS. Bleeeeh. No huge changes there--big wonky weather changes still make me feel like god is personally wadding me up into a ball, post-exertional malaise continues to be pretty miserable. I do my best to move around when I can--I even got a tiny exercise bike for when it's too icy/humid/miserable for walking, and this also means that if I feel like I'm overdoing it I can just stop instead of having to stagger all the way back home.
Still estranged from 99% of my relatives. No big changes there--I talk to my grandma about once a week, but that's about it.
Still struggling with mental health stuff--deperession, anxiety, PTSD, bad dreams, all that stuff. The one good thing about crappy brainweather is that I can kind of wait it out and something will change, though, so I've just kind of been taking it a day at a time.
I've been pretty freakin' lucky with COVID-19. I've had all my shots, and I'm continuing to mask up and handwash and all that stuff.
Sooo, that's what I've been up to mostly! :D Is that everything? I think that's everything.
Oh, we've also been having some rad thunderstorms:

Camp was so weird because people would be like "Omg ___ is coming this week!! I love her she's my favorite kid. She's queen of the pirates!" (we had a pirate themed campsite)
And then the most annoying little girl I'd ever met would show up and boss the other kids around while open mouth-breathing into your face while it took her 10 minutes to tell you a 1 minute story. And was totally old enough to understand that we're not allowed to pick kids up but would demand to be carried anyway and would throw a fit if you didn't. Normal kid stuff but damn, not really "favorite kid" material. And this wasn't just one person it was most of the staff who adored this kid. I was glad she wasn't in my group. I just didn't get it.
And then the next week someone would be like "ugh, you have ___ in your group this week. I had him last year good luck 😬"
And then a reletively quiet autistic kid who like. Said the F word sometimes (the horror!) And would sit on the ground and play in the dirt instead of doing the scheduled activities sometimes would show up and infodump the plot of some videogame to me. And I'd be like. Is this the same ___? Did they get you and that other kid mixed up? Wtf is happening? And that kid was always my favorite kid.

Gladiator of supernatural – tower with competitions
Tumblr media
Pixel art for today based on videogame China Warrior for system Turbo GrafX. Action based on different kung fu. Game released in 1989. Hero looks like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. This is one of the first games for this system.
And here we have a drawing made my me. So, I need to say, today it is Friday. Lest start Friday! And this means that in the evening – you can go to see your fav vhs records. Play videogames! Play videogames like kung fu. So, I watched a movie. About Bruce Lee. It was a tower. And actor walks different levels of tower. And fight with different opponents. They are very charismatic. It was such a movie. Also, it was a funny 8 bit fighting game- Kung Fu. I like to play on NES in this game in old times.
And here you can walk the grass. After the volcano. After – water. After – forest. Swamp. Road. So, I see it as action game. But with different backgrounds. Each level – its unique theme. It is cool to make a different animations for move and hit. It is main feature. With a sounds like 80s action.
And game has a cool feature – it is a very big sprites for characters. It is interesting and attractive. And I select this game for drawing a long time ago. Some mystical monks are attacking. And main hero – action movie hero. Even gladiator, for example. Like some deadly fight. Mortal Kombat. Some supernatural force from other world is presence here.
And maybe- to make like in a movie. Tower. And you are walking every level of the tower. To fight next enemy. It is like beat em up and fighting. So, here we have two ideas. And it is a theme. Tower. And every floor has its own style. And its own defenders, and main enemy. First you are walking the floor and fight with defenders. And than – with the boss of the level. Half fighting – half action. Half fighting game. Such half fighting it was in a videogame Batman Forever for MS DOS, SEGA, Super Nintendo.
So, have a cool week end! Today is new retro Friday!

Revisiting Wario Land 4
Last month I was looking for my Gameboy Advance since I've been watching a lot of content from modders of retro consoles, after finding it I saw that Wario Land 4 was plugged on the Gameboy
My first encounter to the game
This was my first videogame ever on 2002 and I cannot explain all the feelings that this game made me experience 22 years ago, this was an experience of overcoming my fears and discovering that I had an anxious personality since I was 5; the first time that I played the game (and the second, third and so on) I couldn't pass the tutorial level, this was my first experience with a videogame and I wasn't able to think of the only way that I could escape the level
Tumblr media
The dilemma
First I might need to introduce a couple concepts from the videogame mechanics itself.
The whole game revolves in the mechanic of time limits, at the end of every level you can find a Frog Switch
Tumblr media
After hitting the Frogswitch a timer appears on the screen and you need to get exactly to the starting point of the level to get back to the pyramid, but remember that to be able to fight the boss you need 4 pieces from the chests:
Tumblr media
and a Keyzer to be able to open the door for the next level
Tumblr media
...Getting back at my experience Since the whole point of the videogame was to achive a really quick and frenetic gameplay my 5 year old mind was way too stimulated and I just started to cry, and was not able to pass the tutorial level in over a year
The Redemption
It was 2003 when by accident my father saw the Gameboy Advance boy on the nightstand, he sounded very upset telling me that he bought the console for nothing because I didn't want to play with it, but everytime I tried to pass the first level I had a panic attack. Well long story short he decided to turn the Gameboy on, try to play the first level and he was succesful on the first try, there was no trick whatsoever, you just needed to pay attention to the tutorial, after that I spend the next weeks playing on my vacation until I finally finished the game I couldn't be happier in that moment, after that I've finished the game countless times, on all the different difficulties and trying to do not so well so I could see all the different endings depending on the size of the treasure. This game started as a nightmare and ended being my favorite platformer ever, I just hope there is people that have been as inspired as me by this incredible game. And there's a lot moreto talk about it, the level design is incredible, the music is probably one of the best assets this game has (I still have no idea how they were able to put vocals on a GBA Cartridge), the artwork is awesome (I played the game again on an emulator on 1080p and it lookes incredible) and it's just a game with so much soul inside that makes you miss it on modern times, sometimes less is more and Wario Land 4 is the living proof of it.
This is not a review or something like that, but I've always wanted to write some appreciation about the game, there are multiple video essays about it so I will link them too
I like Wario Land 4
Wario Land 4 Music
I'll leave one of my favorite songs from the game here ;)

Now that I've gotten my nerve block, and have a little food in me (I got Japanese curry with my mom). This year's birthday theme is apparently eating things I know I'm allergic to.
I'm taking a look back at my app. I probably won't be using gitpod for development. It is nice to know it's an option but I don't like that I can't see what instances are running and for how long in the page of the instance I'm working on! There's like a freaking CNN style bottom bar (ok it's not scrolling nonsense, but it could be!) My point is that it's far to easy to set it and forget it. I'll probably considered as an option particularly when doing demos on the go but I don't think I'll be making it my primary dev env.
I guess I'll get back to the remix app tutorial. Looks like this uses some different things than the last one so that should be fun to figure out.
I was considering going out to Cyberpunk Cinema in SF but they're showing a movie I don't particularly care for. I could still head out to goth night at Death Guild in SF but that's a bit of a trek.
I had to give subcutaneous fluids to my mom's cat today, so that was not my favorite birthday activity.
The curry was great, went for a walk and did a little bit of poking around on the next steps of my tutorial.
The tutoring gig said they put me back in rotation so that's a possibility. And I'm still applying to other jobs as well as waiting to get a date on my disability hearing.
I wanted cake but there's nothing close enough to here that I can walk to and get cake was thinking about delivery but I'd rather not spend the money.
I need to like get through the CompTIA security+ studies so I can have it under my belt and it's not just a complete sunk cost. I'm just not sure why it's not sticking, like why do I feel so burnt out on it?
I wanted Ready Player One and it was awful. It just reminded me about how I ended up doing prep-cook work for the dude who was dev ops for second life. Needless to say it was not a good time. It was the last time I was trying a bunch of different kinds of jobs to try and find something that works to be told this is not a career path for you. Either implicitly i.e. with an allergic reaction or explicitly by the management, only time I've gotten severance, but yeah they were like please don't do restaurant work this is not for you.
I'd like to get back to work I already feel better from the nerve block. They had said it was Botox but I think it's just a steroid shot. Regardless I'm ok as long as it's working. The last few weeks were really hard on me, really only a few social issues dude to pain / migraine stuff but basically it means that I cannot be around people when I'm that ill and so it makes working a regular job incredibly difficult. You can only okie dokie your way so far through a situation. Dark room rest and video games help.
But the app yeah I guess I care. It's like at least I'm working on something technical that isn't just videogames.
Ugh g2g I got a nosebleed.

Lightfall! And some other quick things
Kia ora, folks!
This is going to be another short one of these today, and once you read the next little bit I think you’ll understand - I just haven’t gotten around to putting aside time to work on things. There’s some stuff coming, though, don’t worry!
So, some of you may be aware that the fifth major expansion for Destiny 2, titled Lightfall, dropped this week (either because you follow games news or because I just would not shut up about it on twitter), and y’all, it’s really fucking good. Last year’s expansion, The Witch Queen, was really great but I think Lightfall knocks it out of the park. It’s goofy and silly even though the overarching story themes featured are very serious and scary, and I think it strikes a really good balance between the two modes. AND WE FINALLY GOT A SPEAKING NON-BINARY CHARACTER. Nimbus is a big (figureatively and literally), goofy thembo (like a himbo, but a they!) and I honestly love them so much, even though they can get a little annoying sometimes. I was going to link to something about them here, but I literally couldn’t find anyone else saying anything positive about them so 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m not going to get super deep into why the apparent discourse around this character bothers me and bums me out as much as it does because I feel like that should be fairly obvious at this point. I am a non-binary person, and this is a videogame series I love and have been playing since 2014. And here is the first time I’ve felt real representation for my gender in a videogame, I think ever, and all anyone can talk about is how annoying they are. It honestly feels really shitty when even folks I adore in games media are sniping at Nimbus. But I guess that’s all I have to say about that. Anyways…
Tumblr media
I really liked Osiris’ arc in this expansion, too; it’s been a long time since he was so central to a Destiny plot, and I really hope they keep him around for a bit longer in the upcoming seasons over the rest of 2023. I’m not going to get into any plot spoilers here or anything, I just wanted to mention it since I have lost roughly a week to this game at this point and I still have a lot to do here.
In other news, I have my review of Atomic Heart incoming probably next week, and I am also pretty close to being done with Persona 3 Portable so I might share some feelings about that sometime soon. I’m also working on something about the recent relaunch of the Microsoft search engine ‘Bing’, which I’m sure you’ve all heard at least a little something about - that will more than likely go up later this week.
Tabitha’s Story is still very much a work in progress, and I’ll be honest, I probably shouldn’t have talked so much about it already because I was feeling much more ambitious about that project at the outset than I can realistically deliver, so I apologise for that. It is definitely coming though! I am still just trying to bank a bunch of posts before I start regularly putting them out into the world.
Thanks so much for reading, folks, I really appreciate it. As always, if you have comments/questions/suggestions, you can hit me up at the links at the bottom of the page. There’s also an email address there now, so if you want to get in touch that way, you can! You may not know this, but I also have a personal Tumblr page where I mostly just Taylorpost (the term I invented for endlessly reblogging GIFs of Taylor Swift) and reblog stuff that stands out to me in a kind of emotional way, I guess?
Thanks again, friendos. I’ll talk to you all again soon. Ka kite anō au i a koe. 💚

since you mentioned him, why do you like mysterio so much?
Much like I mentioned in that other post, my appreciation for Mysterio is based on "pretty much everything the character's been in, comics in last place" first and foremost, mainly because comics Mysterio, while he's obviously the source and has really great, essential storylines for appreciating the character, also has a lot of moments that make him too much of a scumbag for me to enjoy the way I'd like to, particularly Guardian Devil, I really, really don't like that storyline. It's this problem everyone cursed with a love for comic book characters runs into, especially when they are villain fans who like their favorite villains a little or a lot less nasty / murdery / perverted / etc-y than how most writers prefer to use them, I think you all definitely know what I mean without me having to cite specific examples, so we can put this caveat aside.
So I can talk about how much I love Mysterio in general.
Tumblr media
(Art by michalivan)
First off, Mysterio has what is EASILY one of the greatest supervillain designs period, not even just for comic book characters, and I'm that they never got rid of the fishbowl or tried to permanently redesign it into something "cooler", like the fishbowl isn't already unbelievably cool, and that, even with the lengths they took to modernize and blockbuster-fy Mysterio for FFH, they didn't touch the fishbowl and instead used it as a centerpiece for some of his illusions (by far the best part of that movie, really the only thing that made me watch it, was it's depiction of Mysterio and his traps).
It’s a design that wouldn’t look remotely out of place in a Power Rangers or Kamen Rider show and I mean that as a compliment, tokusatsu supervillain designs are generally a cut or several above comic book supervillain designs, partially because, much like how fighting game characters need to be appealing at first sight in ways other videogame characters do not need, tokusatsu villains, especially in monster-of-the-week formats, need to strike up an impression and be distinguishable and show you what kind of threat they pose or character they are, often with nothing BUT their design. And so Mysterio stands out in any line-up, next to any candy-colored criminal mastermind or deformed gangster or animal-themed superthug.
Mysterio’s look, even at it’s most basic form, strikes a weird, confusing, mystical figure. What should be a fairly obvious albeit still cool supervillain look, with that green bodysuit and purple cape and wrist ornaments, turns almost into some kind of weird abstract art piece, with the net pattern over his body and those wretched eye ornaments attaching his cape and of course the fishbowl, obscuring and dehumanizing his features beyond even the usual  monstrous mask, evoking something far less bestial than the other Spider-rogues, instead pushing it to the truly alien and dreamlike, something you’d find minding it’s business in M.C Escher rooms squirreled away in unexplored depths of subconscious, something that only bothers to look human so it can better taunt you with just how stupid and ignorant you really are about the world around you.
And of course, Mysterio is not some grandiose, godlike alien, he’s just a theatrical asshole with parlor tricks, and his design excellently communicates both of these aspects to him, especially when the fishbowl is inevitably destroyed and suddenly the entire illusion is gone. Or is it? He always finds a way to get you the hardest when you think you’ve got him down and he’s got no more illusions to pull, and then he turns out to have a whole ensemble of extra illusions, or just good old fashioned dirty tricks, because Mysterio is nothing if not a resourceful bastard.
Tumblr media
I mentioned atop that I don’t like some moments where Mysterio is made too much of a bastard for me to enjoy the character as a fun supervillain, but that is in no way me saying that I don’t like Mysterio as a bastard, quite the opposite. I love that he in particular, out of most of the major Spider-Man villains, is the one with the least tragic reasons for becoming a villain. He wasn’t turned into a monster, he wasn’t screwed over unfairly out of his life’s work, he didn’t have any mental illnesses or conditions to push him to crime (which gives him less of an excuse than fucking Carnage, of all people), he didn’t even have a tragic life story prior to taking up the costume.
His backstory is that he was an accomplished VFX artist and stuntman, with steady employment, who became bored and, failing to transition into acting, decided to take up costumed supervillainy (a retcon later established that he was blacklisted after one of his special effects injured someone, but that doesn’t mitigate anything as he could have, and indeed has, found any number of workarounds for this). Even adaptations that try to give Mysterio more concrete or understandable (and sometimes less fun) reasons for becoming a supervillain don’t do anything to mitigate that this guy, while not nearly as cruel as the Goblin or the Symbiotes, or as dangerous as Doc Ock or destructive as someone like Electro or Scorpion, is a piece of shit who became a costumed terrorist purely to sate his ego, because he had the means and resources to become a supervillain and the idea appealed to him, so he did it.
Tumblr media
You know how Breaking Bad appears at first to be the heartbreaking story of an average, well-meaning man driven to crime out of desperate financial woes, when it turns out to be mainly the story of a gargantuan, cartoonish asshole finally finding an excuse to cut loose and go on an ego trip at the expense of everyone around him? Or Death Note and that whole joke that goes around in this site, about how Light Yagami saw the slippery slope and decided to grab a sled? That’s Mysterio. He’s the greatest example of a genuine, bonafide Saturday morning cartoon villain in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, and often times this doesn’t at all mitigate the threat he poses, even when Spider-Man is actively aware that he’s dealing with Mysterio’s Scooby-Doo bullshit again.
If there’s a single thing that asshole’s honest about, is the why he’s doing this, and frankly I tend to like that in a villain, especially because all the other Spider-Man villains tend to be largely tragic victims, fully monstrous and irredeemable murderers, or funny assholes who are meant to be slightly sympathetic and pathetic also. In a world where the biggest villains tend to be self-deluded monsters and scumbags doing wretched things under a pretense of nobility or excused (sometimes by the narrative even) by personal tragedy, like Magneto or Dr Doom or the X-Men in the Krakoa era or MCU Thanos, I find Mysterio refreshing. Nobody’s gonna ask me to debate the morality of the mass murders and war crimes committed by Mysterio (and it helps that he’s not interested in doing those, he really just gets his kicks out of putting on a show and fucking with Spider-Man) and we’re all generally on the same page that he’s a total dipshit and kind of a joke but he’s also very cool and genuinely scary at points, and he’s generally not bad enough to the point it ruins how fun he is to watch as a cartoon villain (again, minus stories like Guardian Devil, at least for me). Nobody’s gonna come up to me in real life and argue with me that “he’s got a point” that I should consider debating over.
Mysterio is a creature of spectacle through and through. It’s the spectacle that makes superhero comics what they are, and the true power of Mysterio as a character comes not in the ways he poses a personal threat to Peter Parker (which he does, having gone through painstakingly cruel lengths to gaslight and torment Parker’s mind in ways that other villains with direct mind-control powers couldn’t conceive doing), or a major-scale menace to the city. It’s not in the ways he poses a dark mirror to Spider-Man or a symbolic attack on his persona, that’s what you go to characters like Venom or Doc Ock or Kraven for. What makes Mysterio interesting to me, on a deeper level, is that his power lies in the spectacle that we inherently sign up for when we go to superhero stories. He may not break or acknowledge the 4th wall directly, but on some level, Mysterio displays awareness that he lives in a world of story, that he is a player on a stage like all the others around him, and that he must entertain. His very gimmick as a villain is to tell stories within stories, to insidiously take control, even if only briefly and only in the little world he lives in, of people’s lives and puppeteer them along.
Tumblr media
Speaking more personally, Mysterio’s always been a concept deeply appealing to me personally, a grandiose theatrical supervillain who specialized in using movie special effects and film concepts to pick fights with superheroes. I’ve wanted to become a filmmaker since I was 13 and it’s a dream I latched onto strongly my whole life no matter what, one I’ve only been able to begun achieving recently. I’ve always loved telling stories, learning about stories, taking facts and events and spinning stories out of them and getting people invested in them, I’ve been doing it even before I knew what it was, and one of the big reasons why I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker is because film affords you more tools to work with when creating a story, and I’ve always wanted to learn more about what those tools were and how to use them. Learn the “magic”, as it were.
And sometimes it feels weird or wrong to call it “magic”, when it’s stuff that you know how to do so mechanically, when it’s stuff you have to do for a living, when you have to do it when you don’t want to, when you got bills to pay and so parts of the “magic” become a job like any other and suddenly you have to come to terms with the idea that maybe you ended up choking your childhood dream by chasing it and it’s hard to muster up the love and excitement you need to in order to go after those dreams you’ve been putting in the backburner forever now and-
..Allright, you know what, I take it back, maybe Mysterio did have a point. A worker in the film industry, ESPECIALLY in the special effects and stunts department, choosing to become a supervillain, feels like something that doesn’t need much justification. Mysterio’s real arch-enemy wouldn’t be Spider-Man, it’d be CGI.
Or Sony.
Tumblr media
(Fingers crossed that, with all the Raimi love in NWH, someday we’ll FINALLY get some justice in this world and get Bruce Campbell as Mysterio for real.)
Jokes aside though, part of the reason I always found Mysterio cool, even when I had read or watched very few stories with him in it, is the same reason so many people quote first and foremost when asked to describe why they like Batman: the ability to kick ass without superpowers. I’ve always liked to watch Mysterio fight Spider-Man for similar reasons people like to watch Batman fight Superman.
I’ve never, ever, liked the idea of Mysterio using actual magic, it runs very much contrary to his appeal as a tremendous illusionist without any magical abilities, using purely advanced technology and his own brilliant mind to run circles around superheroes (and sometimes even supervillains, even those who are actual magic users, who can’t figure out and counter what he’s doing). I didn’t want to get into film because of Mysterio, but the idea of Mysterio made filmmaking and special effects look cool to me the same way Popeye made spinach look cool or Batman makes being a detective look cool. Yeah, spinach doesn’t turn you into a fighting god (to my bitter dissappointment when I first tried it) and by all means Batman would be a pretty terrible detective, but that’s what fiction is for, and fiction is Mysterio’s power.
Tumblr media
Fiction is what allows Mysterio, a no-name scumbag with no superpowers, to pose a regular challenge to a superhero who leaps through buildings and juggles cars. Fiction is what allows Batman to beat up Superman, and it’s specifically the fact that it’s Mysterio’s background in film, in special effects and stunt work and acting and etc, that allows him to do all of this, that always made it really, really cool for me. One of the great things about film for me is that learning how the magic is done doesn’t destroy it, quite the opposite. Is Jurassic Park spoiled for anyone when they find out that, no, they didn’t have an actual T-Rex on set, so they built TWO GIANT ROBOTS made to look impeccably like artistic renditions of Tyrannosaurus and whole teams had to operate those under extremely precise conditions just to get seconds of footage? Of course not, that only makes it better! We all know that the Muppets are not “real”, and that doesn’t stop anyone from treating Kermit like he’s a real dude, just a little smaller and a little more green than other dudes, to the point crew members regularly describe completely forgetting that the Muppets are not actually fellow actors. You know it’s fake, and you still think of it as real anyway. Spider-Man knows everything Mysterio does is an illusion, and he still has trouble fighting him.
Mysterio is a creature of the story who weaponizes stories, weaponizes the art, the scenery, the actions, the reactions, the character arcs, the medium itself, against the protagonist, on paper for his own benefit, but really, for our own (because Mysterio is nothing if not a performer, and a performer is nothing without an audience). His power is his ability to give us a show. Not Spider-Man. Us. Who guarantees that, beneath that fish bowl of his that betrays no line of sight, he isn’t always looking at the reader to gauge your interest and is just good at pretending otherwise, like he does with everything else?
Mysterio may be a gimmick villain, but it’s a gimmick that makes him an extremely versatile, interesting villain nonetheless because his gimmick is that he’s a storyteller. He weaves lies, frauds, deceptions, tricks, cons, all in spectacular packages and villainous plots, fueled and sustained by magic. Not the hokey bullshit used by that goober Dr Strange to save the world, the real stuff, that which has magically influenced you to spend time, if not money also, to read or watch a story with a guy who has a fish bowl for a head fighting a guy in spider pajamas. Used and designed by a criminal whose endgoals are often as basic and unremarkable as Quentin Beck himself is when you strip away his costume, when he’s nothing but a scumbag with dirty tricks, but Mysterio? Mysterio is magic, and he’s here for us.
Or so he would claim. He is a professional liar above all else. But he prefers the more pompous name for that, it’s called “artist”.

It's been a hot minute since I've posted Kaito art 👁👄👁 Once upon a time I posted a drawing of my talentswap bois with a new one I never got around to making, bUT I got in the zone a while ago to properly give him a drawing so here he is!! Kaito as the Ultimate Gamer 🕹✨💜
As always I have to say that I'm not that good at drawing but for once idc cause I had so much fun with this!! I love videogames and I adore Kaito so you can imagine how happy I was while drawing 🤚🏽💕 I think there's a total of 23 game/general gaming related references so truly, all the kudos and love to you if you can identify them all!! 🌚💜
He listens to Game Over by Falling In Reverse religiously and his one game weakness is horror games and I love him very much <3 True to my Kaito loving self I thought of some hc's for him which are below (finally figured out how to do the keep reading thing asdfghkl) but yeah hope you guys like him as much as I do!! :] 💞💞💞
-He will play any and all games
-Even horror games but he kinda sucks at them cause he gets scared all the time and dies
-Lowkey competitive and a perfectionist, he needs to get ALL the trophies and achievements but he enjoys the game and plot first
-Shuichi and Maki literally have to force him to sleep cause otherwise he stays up all night playing games
-If he had to pick a fave genre it'd be action games, fighting games or racing games
-His phone ringtone is the Super Mario Bros theme song
-Kirumi, aka mom™, always scolds him for slouching and corrects his posture
-Constantly browses the interwebs for new or rare games/consoles/merch/etc he doesn't have yet (someone help this man and his bank account)
-He has rows upon rows of games and don't even get me started on all the consoles he owns
-Besides playing videogames, he likes watching gaming documentaries and movies (especially the movies)
-His fave one is probs Wreck It Ralph and he cries a lot during the "I'm bad and that's good, I will never be good and that's not bad, there's no one I rather be but me" volcano scene
-His lab is literally designed after an arcade
-If he plays games with his friends he will literally only let Himiko, Gonta, or Chihiro win, the rest will get obliterated into next week (not even his sidekicks get the special treatment)
-He will fight you if you think yourself a superior/true gamer just cause you play action packed games and hate on people who play "cutesy" or chill games
-He ALWAYS has a handheld console and does not go anywhere without one
-He got scouted by Hope's Peak when he won a fuckton of gaming competitions
-He always commissions Rantaro for artwork of his game characters
-Likewise he always commissions Sayaka for character costumes he wants to wear for cons (everyone is talentswapped so Rantaro is the ultimate artist and Sayaka the ultimate cosplayer huehue)
-His hoodies are sacred and so far he's only let Shuichi wear them
-He started a gaming club in the school and they meet up every Friday to chill, play games, and have friendly tournaments
-"Press f to pay respects" is his mantra
-He happens to like outer space a lot since he would always stargaze with his grandparents
-Hence why he automatically loves any game setting in space (cue Rainbow Road being his fave course in Mario Kart)
-He can probably tell you the history of gaming from the creation of Spacewar and Tennis For Two to the modern day in one sitting but he literally goes like 👁👄👁❓ for a sec tryna remember what he had for dinner last week
-One of his future goals is to create his own videogame
-Loves interacting with people online/through multiplayer, he has an endless amount of virtual friends

It has been almost a year since you’ve been trapped in this place. Your interactions with your captor, Kai, are common. Still, he is a complicated person, soft in his own way.
Your conversations with him consist of mostly you talking, he makes a comment once in a while about the topic you are discussing or simply mentioning, it is sometimes... awckward to say the least.
You have a well defined routine, you wake up at 8:30 a.m., take a shower with hot water on winter and cold (not freezing) on summer, you have breakfast with Kai. Breakfast its always perfectly balanced, you also take vitamin D pills since you don’t get a lot of sunlight. You converse with him while taking breakfast, about the books you read and he informs you about what is happening outside.
After that, you brush your teeth and get to your recreation, reading, playing a videogame, watching some T.V. or attending to your hobbies. If you are interested in music, Kai got you every instrument you asked for, a piano, a violin, a flute, this also incluided books with some songs for you to learn. If you are interested in plastic arts he will get you the most expensive materials you can ask for, oil paint, a graphic tablet, the most refined canvases, pencils, colors, pastels, anything you can imagine he is going to get it for you.
He spoils you as much as he cans, its his way of showing he cares for you.
You mostly wear casual clothes, all in white, altough sometimes when he has important bussiness to attend he takes you out in expensive designer clothes, this ones cover you in a subtle way, still showing your curves, dressed in black and gold.
Going back to your routine, after that, you get to eat lunch. On the weekends Kai lets you go out to the garden so you can get some sunlight, always with him and the necessary precautions. You chat with him and drink some tea, you can choose some flowers to get back to your room.
Then its dinner, another shower and you get tucked into bed at exactly 9:30 p.m.
Kai has to make sure you are healthy and safe, he conducts a series of medical examinations three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is a simple medical procedure, draws some blood out, checks for any bruises or wounds you might have, takes your pressure, checks your heart and lungs, etc.
This was your routine for the past 8 months, the calendar in your wall that you had requested confirmed that date.
When Kai was tucking you into bed, you gathered the strenght and courage to ask him something.
“Kai?” You asked in a low voice, a blush getting all over your face
“Tell me, y/n” You had requested that he called you only by your name since the title next to it sounded really formal, it made you unconfortable.
“Will you, you know” he raised a brow as you tried to find the words. “Well, I’ve been sleeping alone since I have been staying here” your hand directed onto his, he tensed up, Kai wasn’t a person that loved physical contact (except yours, he liked it but still tensed about it)
“Can we sleep together, Kai?” Now you were both blushing
“Y/n, I think we should wait a little longer to do some thing of the such” you laughed a little, he now was confused, why were you laughing?
“No, not like that silly. Just cuddle while we sleep. We are a couple aren’t we? Do you not want to?” Now his blush was at his ears, you wanted to cuddle with him?
He froze for a moment, he got excited even if he didn’t show it. “Fine” he murmured under his breath,  “let me disinfect myself and get changed.” He said and went quickly to do that.
Once he was done, he crawled under the sheets with you. His skin was filled with goosebumps. As your turned to face him his face turned brigth red, noticeable even in the darkness of the room. He was without his characteristic mask, or any mask. He was handsome without it.
“Can I hug you?” You asked, smiling. He just nodded and looked away, oh god, he was so nervous about this.
You hugged him, closing your eyes as you hid your face in his chest. He tensed up, after a few minutes he started hugging you by your waist. You smiled and chuckled a little, your voice getting soft and sleepy “why are you so nervous? I-” you stoped yourself for a moment, he was your captor, but you couldn’t help it. He had won your heart “ I love you, Kai”.
He didn’t answer, he tensed even more and a small smile formed on his face. He could get used to this. To this kind of affection from you, to sleeping beside you.
When you were fully asleep, he looked over at you, smiling even more, moving a couple of loose hairs falling on your face.
“I love you” he whispered.

ok omg prompt idea!! where do you think the boys would take someone they love on vacation? like a resort/city/diff countries!! and what would they do <3
idk if this makes sense but yeah
omg yes this is super cute bby thank you for requesting it 💞 and yes it totally makes sense!!
chan
i think chan would take you somewhere where it’s just the two of you (not the creepy kind ofc)
maybe a chalet in the mountains!!
you’d wake up and drink hot chocolate while enjoying the snowy view from a wall made of all windows
and chan is curled up around you, with his chin resting on your shoulders as you whisper to each other to not break the early morning magical atmosphere
then you’d go on hikes or just play around in the snow making snowmen and angels
or maybe you’d just stay in and do something fun inside the chalet, like playing games
imagine curling up in front of the fireplace with him in the evening
complete bliss
and sexy times are bound to happen, maybe in front of that same fireplace, being just the two of you in such a romantic place
minho
he feels like another nature vacation
probably a lake house, like a lovely house made of wood on a lakeshore
days spent having picnics on soft grass
he would probably attempt to fish and catch something to cook for dinner and i feel like he could even succeed
it’s just so blissful, with just the sounds of nature filling the silence
and it’s warm like early summer days
you’d probably spend the entire day in a swimsuit or soft shorts
you’d definitely find a cute little boat to lay on while minho takes you around the lake
who’s going to tell him you’re not actually looking at the beautiful trees around you but at his arms, courtesy of the sleeveless shirts he’s been wearing for the entire vacation?
changbin
somewhere super relaxing like a spa
just getting massages all day and eating fruits served on polished trays
trying out healthy smoothies that don’t taste that good but make you feel cleansed
yoga classes but for couples!!
you’d both most likely start laughing while trying to get into proper positions
doing each other’s facials instead of having the staff do it for you because it’s so cute
lounging around and feeling like royalty the entire time
he’d take you there after a very stressful couple of weeks so you can escape from both of your busy lives for a little while
or maybe for a special occasion like an anniversary!! in that case he would make sure you’re even more pampered than usual because he doesn’t mind spending money at all if it’s to make you feel good
hyunjin
definitely a city man, new york kinda style
getting settled in a cute apartment in the middle of the city that you’re probably only going to be in to sleep
wearing matching outfits and going around the city to take cute pictures of each other
trying out all the most popular food places and typical dishes because “that’s the most important part of traveling”
getting lost trying to follow what the gps says and just giving up and wandering the streets aimlessly because there’s something to see in every corner
visiting museums and taking aesthetic pictures with the art
totally taking advantage of the nightlife and going dancing in the most iconic clubs
going to sleep late and waking up early because you don’t want to waste any second of your vacation
once you’re back home, decorating your apartment with memories from your trip and sighing in content every time you think about it
... and already starting to plan the next one!!
jisung
a fun kind of vacation
WAIT- DISNEYLAND
definitely will insist on staying at the park’s hotel which is all disney themed, like every room is a different disney movie and it’s all so magical and fun
entire days spent around the park trying out every ride and watching the daily shows the actors perform
he would totally try to get as many autographs and pictures with the actors as he can
buying couple mickey mouse ears and taking the iconic picture in front of the castle where people always propose even if he’s not going to propose (or is he????)
eating all the most unusual disney themed dishes and also the most delicious ones from the movies that you’ve always wanted to try
waking up early to get in line before the park has even opened and staying until it closes and the staff has to convince you to get out
at the end of the vacation you’re exhausted but you haven’t felt that happy since you were kids and it’s now one of your favorite memories
felix
cottagecore vibes, like a cute little house in the middle of a flower meadow
laying in the grass and letting the sun warm you up while you read to him and his head rests on your lap
baking cakes and cookies and the whole house smelling like a bakery
afternoon naps on soft sheets that always feel freshly washed because the room is chilly
picking up fruits and berries and playing with the little bunnies living in the meadow
visiting the small town nearby and being greeted by gentle grandmas who insist that you two stay over for lunch
bike rides with the wind messing up your hair and making you laugh
doodling and playing games while sitting on the house’s porch
stargazing without any light pollution blocking the stars and wishing on falling stars that you’ll be together forever
seungmin
i feel like he would love to visit a european country, like italy or france
just being surrounded by beauty and art all day
finding a cute local cafe to have breakfast at every single morning
and a bakery to pick up lunch from as well as small family managed restaurants
visiting nationals parks and beautiful villas and taking aesthetic pictures with the sculptures in the lush royal gardens
going shopping and dressing up just to wander through the streets
being mistaken for a young couple on their honeymoon and being flustered while asking people to take pictures of you
going to watch operas or plays in theaters and getting lost in libraries
lowkey actually fantasizing about your honeymoon and thinking of ways to permanently move to the beautiful place you fell in love with, with the man you love
jeongin
he feels like another city man, but tokyo style
staying in an extremely modern hotel and feeling like you’re in a sci-fi dystopian movie
sleeping all day and being out all night
eating out for every single meal and basically stacking up food to bring back home
geeking together over how your favorite characters can be found in every corner
finding an arcade to play the most futuristic and complex videogames you can find
taking a day to explore the historic parts of the city and actually enjoying the culture for a while instead of just the city life
asking to take pictures of the best dressed people you find in the streets and then going shopping after you fall in love with a particular aesthetic
buying tech gadgets you’ve never seen before
