Tell me your ffxiv house snagging secrets? 🥺 life has been really shitty lately so I’ve been trying to get a house but have been having zero luck. I tried following advice I found online but I guess I’m doing it wrong. Love your blog, and love Aydee, precious little meow meow
Gonna put this under read more since it's a bit long.
Ok so I have no idea how experienced you are in ffxiv housing hunting, but first of all, you should totally be in these discords that give great and lenghty advice on how to camp plots without losing your mind/wasting your time: Sadu's (if you play on NA) Alisaie's (if you play on EU like me)
My tips are:
Only and always camp in prime time (prime time is the time window between 10 hours / 14 hours AFTER a plot goes up as available to grab. You can check when a plot came up in these two discords (depending on the world/DC you're on) as people regularly go check available plots and tell everyone when they became available. Then you make your own math and count to time the plot became available -> around 10h past to 14h, it's prime time, so time to camp that plot and smash that 'buy plot' button on the placard babey. ( Basically people have done statistics on the time plots unlock and people manage to snag 'em, and the statistics point to the 10 / 14 hours as the prime time of plots unlocking. (People way more intelligent and math savvy than me have done the maths on this, and I can personally say It Works. The numbers don't lie!!!) )
When you're camping, decide how long you're gonna stay and use your time to do this thing- set limits, and don't overdo it. If you're tired, just rest. A house isn't worth losing your mind and hands over. But if you're up for it, smash that button- in the end, the plot has more probability to go to the one that is costantly clicking. It's true it's random and luck- but costantly pressing the button is what makes the difference. When I got my personal plot, I was competing against other 5 people, but only one other person was clicking at that time (since I was observing everyone and watching if they were actively clicking), so that made my win much more probable
Use the numpad or a controller. Don't use your mouse, you're gonna get tired real quick, and your fingers are gonna start hurting after a couple of minutes. Use a controller instead, or the numpad on your keyboard. Much easier on your fingers and quicker too (both disc servers I linked have more detailed information on how to use your numpad and set up your controller)
Put on the 'busy' status, as some people are out for blood and will try to trade you costantly to prevent you clicking (and generally this way you avoid any harrassing tells you could get... unfortunately some people get real nasty over this shit)
Unfortunately there are a lot of people using third party clickers spammers programms. This is unavoidable. But if you see someone using one (a way of telling is if they're never moving, emoting, saying anything, and most of all, stay spam clicking for minutes/hours even after someone has got the plot or they themselves got it!), report it via the squenix support tab, on the squenix site or in game. (support-> contact us in game, report for cheating, third party softwares)
Put on a movie, podcast or call a friend on discord or something. Chances are you're gonna do this a lot and spend some time clicking and spamming, and god knows you will need the distraction. I personally put Safiya Nygaard's video on youtube because she makes me happy LOL
Your health comes first!! if you see you're getting in a bad mental place, your back/hands hurt too much, STOP. A virtual plot of land isn't worth screwing your health over
Related to the previous tip... take breaks!! While I was house hunting, I wasn't doing it every single day, that would've sucked so much and reduced me to the husk of a human being. I took some well deserved breaks, week long breaks, and then came back with more energy and determination when I was feeling less frustrated by the clicking and losing.
And finally... my experience isn't universal, I'm on a EU data center which is waaay less competitive than NA housing (and my world is also one of the less populated on my DC!) , so if you're on NA or a more populated world/DC, chances are your experience is going to be way different than mine. It sucks to hear, but it is easier to get a plot in less populated DCS and worlds, which is my case. I don't even wanna think about how getting an house on NA DCS is like. BUT! It isn't impossible! A lot of people get their plots daily on NA servers too, so if you really wanna do this, keep your chin up and keep trying, with regards to your health, of course. And then... GOOD LUCK!! I cast good luck on ya!!

the industry’s biggest impact is on the DVD industry, which effectively met its destruction by mass popularizing online content. The emergence of streaming media has caused the fall of y DVD rental companies such as Blockbuster. In July 2020, an article from the New York Times published an article about Netflix DVD, No ches Frida 2s. It was stated that Netflix was continuing their DVD No. No Frida 2s with 5.3 million customers, which was a significant decrease from the previous year. On the other hand, their streaming, No ches Frida 2s, has 65 million members. In a March 2020 study that assessed “The Impact of movies of Streaming on Traditional DVD Movie Rentals” it was found that respondents did not buy DVD movies nearly as much, if ever, because streaming had taken over the market.
So we get more space adventures, more original story material and more about what will make this 21st MCU movie different from the previous 20 MCU films.
Watch Final Space Season 2 — Movie 6, viewers don’t consider the quality of movies to differ significantly between DVDs and online streaming. Problems that according to respondents need to be improved by streaming movies including fast forwarding or rewinding functions, and search functions. This article highlights that streaming quality movies as an industry will only increase in time, because advertising revenues continue to soar on an annual basis across industries, providing incentives for the production of quality content.
He is someone we don’t see happening. Still, Brie Larson’s resume is impressive. The actress has been playing on TV and film sets since she was 11 years old. One of those confused with Swedish player Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider) won an Oscar in 2016. She was the first Marvel movie star with a female leader. . And soon, he will play a CIA agent in a movies commissioned by Apple for his future platform. The movies he produced together.
Unknown to the general public in 2016, this “neighbor girl” won an Academy Award for best actress for her poignant appearance in the “Room”, the true story of a wo who was exiled with her child by predators. He had overtaken Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence, both of them had run out of statues, but also Charlotte Rampling and Saoirse Ronan.
Watch Canada's Drag Race Season 1 Episode 10 Movie Online Blu-rayor Bluray rips directly from Blu-ray discs to 1080p or 720p (depending on source), and uses the x264 codec. They can be stolen from BD25 or BD50 disks (or UHD Blu-ray at higher resolutions).
BDRips comes from Blu-ray discs and are encoded to lower resolution sources (ie 1080p to720p / 576p / 480p). BRRip is a video that has been encoded at HD resolution (usually 1080p) which is then transcribed to SD resolution. Watch Canada's Drag Race Season 1 Episode 10 The BD / BRRip Movie in DVDRip resolution looks better, however, because the encoding is from a higher quality source.
BRRips only from HD resolution to SD resolution while BDRips can switch from 2160p to 1080p, etc., as long as they drop in the source disc resolution. Watch Canada's Drag Race Season 1 Episode 10 Movie Full BDRip is not transcode and can move down for encryption, but BRRip can only go down to SD resolution because they are transcribed.
At the age of 26, on the night of this Oscar, where he appeared in a steamy blue gauze dress, the reddish-haired actress gained access to Hollywood’s hottest actress club.
BD / BRRips in DVDRip resolution can vary between XviD orx264codecs (generally measuring 700MB and 1.5GB and the size of DVD5 or DVD9: 4.5GB or 8.4GB) which is larger, the size fluctuates depending on the length and quality of release, but increasingly the higher the size, the more likely they are to use the x264 codec.
With its classic and secret beauty, this Californian from Sacramento has won the Summit. He was seen on “21 Jump Street” with Channing Tatum, and “Crazy Amy” by Judd Apatow. And against more prominent actresses like Jennifer Lawrence, Gal Gadot or Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson signed a seven-contract deal with Marvel.
There is nothing like that with Watch The Curse of La Llorona Free Online, which is signed mainly by women. And it feels. When he’s not in a combination of full-featured superheroes, Carol Danvers runs Nirvana as greedy anti-erotic as possible and proves to be very independent. This is even the key to his strength: if the super hero is so unique, we are told, it is thanks to his ability since childhood, despite being ridiculed masculine, to stand alone. Too bad it’s not enough to make a film that stands up completely … Errors in scenarios and realization are complicated and impossible to be inspired.
There is no sequence of actions that are truly shocking and actress Brie Larson failed to make her character charming. Spending his time displaying scorn and ridicule, his courageous attitude continually weakens empathy and prevents the audience from shuddering at the danger and changes facing the hero. Too bad, because the tape offers very good things to the person including the red cat and young Nick Fury and both eyes (the film took place in the 1990s). In this case, if Samuel Jackson’s rejuvenation by digital technology is impressive, the illusion is only for his face. Once the actor moves or starts the sequence of actions, the stiffness of his movements is clear and reminds of his true age. Details but it shows that digital is fortunately still at a limit. As for Goose, the cat, we will not say more about his role not to “express”.
Already the 21st film for stable Marvel Cinema was launched 10 years ago, and while waiting for the sequel to The 100 Season 6 Movie war infinity (The 100 Season 6 Movie, released April 24 home), this new work is a suitable drink but struggles to hold back for the body and to be really refreshing. Let’s hope that following the adventures of the strongest heroes, Marvel aged to increase levels and prove better.

give me literally All Headcanon for that post for Mysterio p l e a s e (also, for the one of my choosing, whether or not you hc he commentates movies while watching them or insists on ABSOLUTE SILENCE)
:D!!! my sweet boy, BLESS you nonnie!
◉ whether or not you hc he commentates movies while watching them or insists on ABSOLUTE SILENCE IS A FANTASTIC QUESTION IVE BEEN LITERALLY LAUGHIN ABOUT IT ALL DAY THANK YOU
Both actually! if you try to comment on the plot or react to an actor, immediately you get rudely shushed with the most scorching glare because how DARE you, focus on the ~ART~ you heathen!!! but also the Moment a slightly more advanced special effect takes place, he is all hoppin on his seat excitedly explaining how it’s done and how genius that is, how would he improve on it and how another movie dealt with it, the dialogue for the big plot reveal goin on the screen be damned :’D Also as the movie advances, he starts gettin more and more into long passionate rants either complaining about the lack/surfeit of respect the creators got, how arrogant this one actor is and how he doesnt respect his cues and so on….. lots of the stuff he says is actually pretty interesting but yeah, if you counted on just enjoying the movie, tough luck
He really likes watchin movies with people but prefers to see the movie first on his own at least once, to really focus on it. Often, he will watch a movie in the livin room while others do their own thing and he will comment on the good scenes, however if you agreed to actually watch somethin with him and got distracted during screening or worse, was on your phone?? you are dead to him. (and you can expect some …unpleasant surprises in the upcoming days)
im gonna put the rest under the readmore cuz this is gettin long ^^;;
[ask meme]
☾ - sleep headcanon
Beck is the UGLIEST sleeper, he is the worst. He snores loudly, drools, moves, KICKS, mumbles and has the most vivid wildest dreams. (it happens rarely but sometimes he’ll dream about somethin, wake up and for a while be convinced it actually happened, you know like when you dream about arguing with your friend and being mad at them the next day etc) On the other hand, sometimes, all his features relax, he loses the scowl and looks surprisingly peaceful and happy… oh and he hogs the blanket.
His sleep schedule is a fuckin mess, he is able to go like the whole week on few hours of sleep total when he is workin on a project but other days he gets grumpy if he doesnt get his 10h of beauty sleep every night..
★ - sad headcanon
uhhh i dont actually have much sad stuff for this boy yet, he brings me so much joy that i dont have the heart for that :’’’D (also i like him and chameleon team ups and Dmitri brings enough angst to the table for the both of them)
He really actually died that one time and went to hell (though in Patchwork, im not gonna keep everythin about that Daredevil plot, i really like Mysti being dangerous and actually a worthy opponent but most of it was too fucked up for my tastes…) and well… it wasnt great :’D  it mostly targeted his insecurities about his own talent he buried so deep he almost stopped believing them, the lack of respect and recognition and him willingly throwing away any chance he had at those by becoming Mysterio and of course everything that happened with his ex Brick Johnson…
☆ - happy headcanon
blease consider: autistic Quentin !!!!!!
☠ - angry/violent headcanon
he doesnt have a hair trigger temper like Ock or Electro but Damn does this boy holds grudges over literally everything :’D lots of overcomplicated, carefully crafted revenge plots just for eating the last yogurt in the fridge… He gets frustrated easily, getting snappy and rude, especially if people are not listening to him, but it’s often about the pettiest things, the bigger stuff doesnt affect him as much.
He doesnt enjoy violence for the sake of violence but he is not above it either, everythin is allowed for his big performance…… he can be quite a good n friendly boss if you listen to his orders and work well but can just as much set you up to die in an explosion, all while smiling and patting you on the back…
✿ - Sex headcanon
my Mysterio is gay as hell but also somewhere on the ace spectrum… not sex-repulsed but definitely not a high drive either (he feels oddly smug about that, like look at those fools trying to get into each others’ pants, how pathetic, *I* in the meantime have time for things that Truly matter, like recreating every Xmen battle ever with only straws and gum.)
■ -  Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon
listen, i basically grew up on those “the entire villain team lives in a single place - shenanigans ensue” fics so im not givin up on the Sinister Six HQ, okay. (Chameleon usually finds them a suitable house with enough rooms, as luxurious as their current fonds allow, and he prides himself in putting in lil personal touches that he knows the sin six members would enjoy, for Quentin it’s often very obscure movies, rare memorabilia from his favorite ones, stuff for his illusions, a stolen Oscar…)
When these are unavailable (aka superheroes got them busted) or when he aint in the middle of a crime job, he usually stays at one of the Cham’s safehouses (with or without him) and in a few of them, he already has his own dedicated room with some of his fav old tricks on display. Speakin of which, he has a BIG warehouse with most of his setups and stages or at least models. He doesnt really plan on reusing them but he likes having them all together
♡ - romantic headcanon
((jakjgkfajga im a loser and ended up shippin him with Chameleon and everythin i’ve thought off so far is EMBARRASSING AND CHEESY AS FUCK :’’’’D so im gonna leave those for another time))
Beck being an Extra Bitch he is, lives for the Big Romantic Gestures like in the movies and he often gets so caught up in the prep he.. kinda disregards the person he was makin it for, the making of the effect means more for him than  the actual sentiment behind it…
(ok maybe One mysteleon hc, while it pains him, Quentin knows Chammy Would Not Enjoy being a target of such grand display… he gotta be more subtle, creating a scene where he could play in disguise and dupe some superheroes mayhaps…)
♥ - family headcanon
like 99% of the villains and their grandma, his family wasnt great, mum left when he was very young with another guy, his dad considered his passion for movies a great waste of time and let lil Quentin know how disappointed he was at every occasion both vocally and physically.. After the first few broken models and ripped tapes with stop animations that took weeks to complete, Quentin stopped tryin to impress and convince his father about the greatness of special effects.. He joined a boxing club and learnt some other martial arts but as soon as he could, he left to join a proper film school which led to his father dropping both financing and all contact with him.
☮ - friendship headcanon
Im not even gonna start about Chameleon’s and Mysterio’s friendship because that shit is canon and i cry about it on a daily basis.
Despite his penchant for Dramatics, the constant Need for Validation and Backstabbing and other Throwing Shit in the Fan just cuz it was narratively better, Quentin actually has quite a few friends? He gets along quite well with everyone from the Sin Six and many other villains and even has some ‘normie’ pals from the film industry or just neighborhood…
One of his most surprising is actually Doc Ock with whom he gets along even outside of business partners/partners in crime basis. Though maybe not so surprising, Mysterio is quite vocal with his praises when he feels like they are deserved and Doc as well actually admires and recognizes Beck’s talent while it is still enough specific for him not to feel threatened in his superiority (once he tried to improve them and show them to Quentin with his usual arrogance and flair and that was the biggest fight they ever had and they werent on speaking terms for a loooong while after that… Oct cant stand not having the last word so he still modified some of Mysterio’s tricks even after that but he actually cares about their friendship enough to not tell Mysti about it.. Not like he would ever admit that to Quentin’s fishbowl face)
♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon
like 99% of everythin Mysti does is Somehow related to special effects/film or the Drama in general but my boy is a nerd in general, theater, books, comics, manga, roleplaying games, you name it. He especially likes flashy stuff obviously.
He really enjoys learning new techniques and figuring out how to make something happen. When he was younger, he was viciously against CGI but later he started to sorta respect it as its own category that needs talent and effort… he still prefers to use the traditional techniques of course :’D (…as traditional as HYPNOTIZING PEOPLE WITH NEURAL GAZ IS)
☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon
He has a very Complicated relationship with the film industry……. on the one hand, he loves the behind the scenes, the rush, the Action…. but on the other hand, he hates it with a fiery passion, everythin from how you get treated like dirt and the pretentious prizes being awarded just for the Big names and hollywood and everythin turning around the money an-…., he has a very long list and it is alphabetized. (While he has a point for many of those complaints, the fact HE himself never got any pretentious award remains probably the main issue…)
he absolutely despises people making fun of D-grade shitty movies in the “this shitty horror is so cheesy and dumb it’s funny and i love it” way, either because the people workin on it were good and trying their best but the money or the producers etc ruined it (his experience) and then it’s an unfair critique or because the creators just didnt try hard enough and that’s even worse in his books and this movie should not get Any Attention much less a positive one..
he likes complaining and being snarky :’D he enjoys the challenge Spidey sets for them and loves playing tag with him (even when he loses..) He loves the prep before his big shows both alone or with help, the adrenalin when actually pulling it off and when he discusses it with Cham in details. He lives for the applause and recognition and ~Fame~
▼ - childhood headcanon
not as much as hc as adopting the Webspinners’ aproach: he spent most of his childhood daydreaming, hiding himself behind the stories and special effects….. not many friends aside from Betsy but he didnt really need them, he wanted audience not pals.. In the film school he started to be more social and communicative, he met Brick there and they started goin out…
∇ -. old age/aging headcanon
hhhhh im conflicted, there are like 3 comics where Q is retired because he has enough of superheroes beating him up and he Really doesnt want to go back to it.. I cant see him actually givin up on it totally tho… idk idk
♒ - cooking/food headcanon
Like with sleep, it oscillates wildly. He can forget to eat when he is hypefocusin on a particular project (one single chip suffices as nourishment) or he just subsides on ramen for a month but on the other hand he is quite a capable cook. Nothing Extraordinary but he can make enough diverse simple meals. When livin with Chammy, they both enjoy eating out so they do that as much as the budget allows (so not that much, illusions arent cheap…)
☼ - appearance headcanon
im still thinkin about that one post that described Quentin as a “toenail of a man” and i couldnt agree more :’D very short, pig nose, hairstyle à la Spock, stocky built and weirdly beefy, like this guy’s thigh is bigger than some heads… (for a nerd he is surprisingly strong what the fuck)
All Mysterios are Good Mysterios but my preferred ones have a bigass ROUND fishbowl, the longest cape and somethin as a belt, preferably sash..
ൠ - random headcanon
he actually isnt….. that great of an actor nor director nor creator………………….. (im sorry baby i love you but it’s tru….) he unconsciously copies a lot of stuff he has seen elsewhere, he follows overused tropes, his work is packed with cliches and cheesy over the top pathos… his special effects mastery n creativity with workin out his illusions is absolutely INCREDIBLE dont get me wrong, it’s just… the plot/ideas……..  at first he lived in denial about this still believing 100% his work is Wonderful and Perfect and he is just a misunderstood author… later he decided to embrace it and he is livin the life now :D

As I said in a previous post, you shouldn’t visit Bali thinking about the beaches, if you want great beaches, look at other Indonesian islands or even other countries in southern Asia. Said that what a better place to be than a city that doesn’t have a coastline, and is really well located to visit the best places around the island of Bali.
I’ve found that Ubud offers the best location, great and affordable accommodation and abundant vegan food options. Out of all the cities in Bali, Ubud is the best, not because is the most authentic one (far from that) but because it has good quality affordable touristic infrastructures in a perfect location to do days out to other places in the island. Within relatively short driving distances you have temples, museums, mountains, waterfalls, rice terraces, and many other natural sights.
The downside of Ubud is that feels a bit like the city is entirely set up to tourists, unfortunately, most places in Bali that offers good/affordable accommodation nowadays are like that. Although I still found that Ubud offered a good middle ground between touristic and local.
About Ubud
Ubud is located in the Gianyar region of Bali and is surrounded by lush rice paddies, and is one of the cultural centers of Bali. Ubud is extremely popular among tourists and a hub of yoga, spas and, vegan food.
Ubud like the rest of the island of Bali is a multi-religious place, but the predominant religion is Hinduism, called Agama Hindu Dharma, a blend of Shivaism and Buddhism. Their religion is a world apart from the Hindu religion in India. Ubud, like the rest of Bali, is home to countless temples, and their everyday life is inextricably intertwined with colorful and fascinating religious practices.
Bahasa is the language spoken and the currency used is the Rupiah ($1=Rp.14.800)
I have spent 10 days exploring the island of Bali, always based in Ubud, I had a motorbike to go to different places every day. Please be aware that I don’t advise in any way that you rent a motorbike there if you don’t have experience, Bali, its not the place to learn how to ride one. I never ever seen so many people with motorbike injuries during my travels like I saw in Bali. Road conditions are rough and traffic a nightmare, on top of that there are no rules…
Out of the 10 days only two were actually spent in Ubud, what I think is more than enough if you are not planning to do anything special like a yoga retreat or a course. So here are the top things to do in Ubud
At the end of the post check also what to avoid 🙂
What to do in Ubud
Campuhan Ridge Walk (8.5km, ~3h/4h)
This place is a serene and beautiful green path for an easy hike early morning, the path starts at the Campuhan Bridge and has an amazing view of the jungle, rice paddy fields, small villages, communities, temples, and passes over the lush river valley of Sungai Wos.
This is worth waking up early for, you can go any time during the day but it does get hot and crowded, at least the first part of the path.
The Puri Saren Agungis – Ubud Royal Palace
It’s far for being a spectacular place but is the hub of all of Ubud’s cultural events. The entrance is free.
Saraswati Temple (Water Palace)
Its one of the most beautiful temple in central Ubud with a great little walkway in between lotus ponds leading up to the temple. The Saraswati Temple is a Hindu temple built in the 19th century to adore the Goddess Saraswati (The Goddess of Knowledge).
Jalan Goutama
It’s a road packed with organic everything, from restaurants, bars, cafes, ice-cream shops, etc. and has lots of local warungs serving cheap and delicious food. Here you will find restaurants for all tastes, budgets and, diets.
Jl. Kajeng
A road with messages written into the street paving. It’s really nice to stroll up here and read the message of peace, love and ‘vegan propaganda’.
Ubud Market
The market is a great place to stroll around. If you go very early in the morning (what I recommend) you can visit the produce market in the far south-east corner, and this is as authentic as it gets (7h-10h). Later on, you only have souvenir stalls, with clothes, homewares, jewelry, and other miscellaneous bits and pieces. Prices are always fully negotiable.
Watch a movie at Paradiso Ubud
Paradiso Ubud is the world’s first organic vegan cinema and definitely worth a try! There are daily movie screenings and the food is delicious.
Food
Balinese food is delicious, and anywhere you go in Ubud there will be delicious vegan options on the menu.
Ubud is blessed with an abundance of great eateries, although menus are a little pricey compared to the rest of Indonesia if you don’t scuffle around backstreets. Local warungs or Padang rumah makan (eating house) are great options.
Massage
There is a tonne of little spas lining the roads in the center of Ubud with very reasonable prices. Why not treat yourself with a full body Balinese massage? You can find prices as lower as RP70.000 to 100.00 ($4.70 – $6.80) for one hour massage.
Wander around
This is true for any place you visit, stroll around without a plan or a schedule, and lose yourself through narrow streets.. Because Bali is a predominantly Hindu island, there is always something to see, experience and smell.. for example, each morning you will find hundreds of little boxes called Canang Sari filled with flowers, offerings and burning incense.
Unfortunately, there is also a downside here, Ubud has Jammed traffic from vehicles and pedestrians, severely uneven, damaged and broken sidewalks, broken drainage holes with jagged metal bars, sidewalk vendors, shop displays and sometimes even motorbikes. So you are guessing correctly, walking can be a challenge that requires energy and art.
Motorbike around the Ubud countryside
Bali is a small island, so renting a motorbike gives you the freedom and access to explore the Balinese countryside. On your way to places is easy to stumble upon local festivals, cremation ceremonies,  pass by beautiful structures of intricately-carved stone, people flying kites in the fields, beautiful rice paddies, waterfalls, mountains, markets, temples…
⛔️ what to Avoid in Ubud
Sacred Monkey Forest
This is considered a must-do for many, for me is a must not. You do not need to pay to go to a jungle and to see macaques in Southeast Asia, literally you can do it everywhere, for free and without the crowds.
Plus these monkeys are not as cute as they look in the pictures they can be scary aggressive. If you are still planning a visit don’t take anything with you that you aren’t prepared to lose, monkeys can open bags with ease and are professional thieves. They are well trained at efficiently robbing tourists.
I know I’m just telling you to avoid one of the most popular Ubud attractions, but trust me on this one.
Shopping
Well maybe I’m a bit suspect on this one because to be fair I don’t shop, I’m already carrying my small bag around with me, and the last thing I need is extra weight 🙂 plus Ubud is extremely expensive (for Indonesian standards) you will find the same things much much cheaper somewhere else.
If you are into shopping go to the market but be prepared to haggle. Even if you don’t want to do any shopping I still think that you should give the market a visit but early in the morning, because by afternoon it gets seriously crowded.
Don’t buy spices or coffee on the market, most of it is fake.
Sungai Ayung Valley (6.5km ~4h)
This was sposed to be a great trekking through the lush, tropical river valley but sadly has become an extortion scheme.
When you arrive at the Sayan Terrace hotel, you take the path downhill, there you will find some locals that are blocking the passage with a gate and you can only pass through if you pay RP.150.000 ($10) per person. We refused to pay and they didn’t allow us to pass. So we headed up the hill and we did a different trekking around the same area but instead of the 6.5km took us 15km 🙂
Be aware that the locals carry large sickles or machetes (that they are not using as farming tools) but for the threatening effect.
how to get to Ubud
If you arrive by air, the best option is unfortunately to take a taxi. As you know is always hard to negotiate taxi fares so it’s probably best to have that arrangement done in advance. Most places in Ubud will offer that service, negotiate with them and skip the hassle at the airport in Denpasar.
In August 2018 the taxi fares from Denpasar to Ubud were around RP. 250.000 to RP. 350.000 ($17-$23)
Just get ready for a very slow ride from Denpasar to Ubud, the traffic is just unbelievable. Ubud is about the same distance and time from the nearest port, where boats go to Gili Islands and Lombok.
Where to Stay
My suggestion is to stay close to the center, in a place that includes breakfast, offers transfer and that rents motorbike, this will prevent that you get in one of those motorbikes scams. Ubud has plenty of options with a great relation between quality and price. Make some research and look at the reviews.
I stayed in a great central place, and still in a quiet street. The family was really nice and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and the price excellent, $8 per night with breakfast (I’m happy to pass the name of the place if you want).
Extra notes
To visit temples, you must be dressed appropriately which includes wearing a sarong, that is basically a long piece of cloth that you wear wrapped around the body and tucked at the waist. Just bring one from home so you don’t need to buy or rent one.
Small temples are all around the city and each temple is unique in its own way.
Don’t buy water bottles, Bali has a project for water refills. Download the app and find the closest location. Ubud has several places offering this service for free or for a small fee (https://www.refillmybottle.com).
Indonesia is an affordable place to travel but especially in Bali, you need to be extra careful to not spend more than you budgeted.  Prices offered to tourists are always inflated and haggling is the only option to bring it within reason.
ATMs can be found easily throughout Ubud.

SaveSave
Ubud a great hub to explore Bali As I said in a previous post, you shouldn't visit Bali thinking about the beaches, if you want great beaches, look at other Indonesian islands or even other countries in southern Asia.

171219 Daesung - Diraito 2 Album Release Event in Fukuoka
Event 1 in Fukuoka- Q1: What do you feel like eating whenever you visit Fukuoka?
MC: I think I actually know the answer. DS: What do you think it is? MC: Motsunabe. DS: Uuuh, correct!! MC: You love motsunabe, right? DS: I do. There's a place where I always go eat it when I come to Fukuoka. MC: So you went this time too? DS: I did. Yesterday. MC: So fast! Fans: Where where?? DS: I won't tell you. Fans: Wheeere?? DS: (mean laugh) you guys. Fans: Where where? DS: "where, where?" There, there~ well I think those who know, know already. DS: Look, there is one who seems to know. (to the fan who kept asking "where?") please ask her later. Row two, left side, wearing black. Please ask her after the show, she knows the place. (the fan in row 2 nodded confidently)
Q2: What time in your life do you think you are/will be the most popular (with the fans/ladies)? Fans: Now!! DS: (laughs) (suddenly dramatically serious) Not now! Tomorrow! (strikes a pose) *Right after he got so embarrassed that he hid laughing behind his chair
Q3: What do you always keep in your fridge? DS: As a Korean I always keep kimchee. And... what else, hmm... MC: Water I guess? DS: Of course. Hmm... but there isn't much. I don't usually cook. MC: Right. And you can't store anything since you're traveling a lot for work DS: I often order from delivery services, so... I store the left overs in the fridge. But in the end they end up being thrown away by the older lady that keeps my apartment clean. I ask her to clean out my fridge when I'm not there. It's like my garbage bin MC: Wow, she cleans out your fridge, nice! DS: Since I don't keep any utensils/ingredients... yes, I tell her she can just throw it all away. MC: So only kimchee then, since you can keep it for a long time. No alcohol? DS: I keep wine. I have a wine fridge. MC: A wine cellar. DS: (laugh) your voice turned low so suddenly, "wine cellar~" MC: So you pile bottles 1, 2, 3, 4... (gestures) ..oh, not that high? DS: Not that high. About this (indicates about knee height) MC: So about 10 bottles? DS: It fits 32 bottles. MC: And how many bottles do you keep currently? DS: I don't actually drink a lot but I like buying wine, so I usually have many bottles. I don't drink any alcohol a few days before using my voice (to sing) DS: But when I buy wine, I like the feeling of knowing that I will be able to drink it any time. Something to look forward to. They also make good presents. MC: (imitates situation) What do I bring today? 2010.. this one should be good. DS: No. Rather (imitates) hmm how much was this one? Ah, not expensive. Ok, this will do (laugh) MC: Deciding by price (laugh) Which do you prefer? White or red? DS: I like red wine. (they started fooling around, pretending to chill on a sofa & drink wine)
Q4: What was the most recent thing that made you burst of laughter? DS: Burst of laughter... (he thought for a while) oh! I remember! When I saw pictures of Seungri at his birthday party in the Philippines, shirtless. He looked like a panda. DS: He's called panda from the start because of his eye bags. So... the pictures made me think "Oh, so he really became a panda". But he's working out really hard these days. MC: He's an artist after all. DS: Of course. DS: He's been working hard on his ramen business, doing all sorts of research himself. Maybe that's why... MC: Oh! I finally went to Aori the other day! DS: The one in Tokyo? How was it? MC: Amazing, so many people! DS: It's good, right? MC: Really good. DS: He's been working hard on his ramen business, doing all sorts of research himself. Maybe that's why... MC: Oh! I finally went to Aori the other day! DS: The one in Tokyo? How was it? MC: Amazing, so many people! DS: It's good, right? MC: Really good.
Q5: Is there anything you want to master/overcome? DS: Overcome... I have overcome a lot of issues up till now. Those who have been my fans for a long time will probably know it well. There's been a lot of problems, and things I'm still trying to master even now. MC: Even now? DS: I want to be able to continue singing for as long as possible, so I'm taking good care of my throat. The way I have used my voice in the past was not right, so a couple of years ago - I think maybe 4 years, I had a lot of issues with my voice. DS: So that's when I went back to the beginning and started from zero. And I'm still in the process of mastering it. MC: I see... DS: I'm sure there will be a lot of issues to overcome in the future, too. MC: Look at this positive attitude! Amazing. MC: I think you, his fans know this the best. He's such a sincere guy. Constantly mastering issues. I myself am daily trying to overcome my wife. Just yesterday. "Fukuoka tomorrow, again?" - "You see, Daesung's event..." If it's for Daesung, never objects.
Q6: What is the scariest dream you have ever had? DS: I don't dream a lot. I sleep very well. MC: So you don't wake up from dreams a lot? DS: I don't. Ah, but... it's not scary, but during elementary school, I had many dreams where I was conscious that I was dreaming. DS: It was so much fun! I used to jump from huge buildings, or jump very high. Also at times, my dream from the night before would continue the night after. I loved going to sleep during those days. I still remember those dreams well. MC: So when you grew up, you stopped dreaming. You're so busy after all. DS: I just sleep very well. I fall asleep right away. MC: Even when it's noisy? DS: Doesn't affect me at all. Even when I think I won't be able to sleep, before I realize it I passed out. DS: Oh, and also...! Ah, never mind. Fans: What is it?? DS: No, it's ok. Fans: Tell us!! DS: You really want to hear (so much talk about dreams)? MC: Please continue! DS: Well, before I became a trainee, in middle school I used to take lessons at an academy. DS: After we (students) finished our lessons, we used to fall asleep in the classroom, all tired out. We used to fall asleep with music playing in the background. So in my dreams, the singer of that song would appear! MC: Performing? DS: Yes! DS: No matter how intense the dream was, suddenly the side corner turns into a bar and there is the singer, performing live. So impressive. It happened to me once, so the next time I tried playing a song of a singer I wanted to see in my dreams. Like Beyoncé. DS: But... MC: She didn't appear? DS: She didn't. MC: So it happened only once. So the singer who appeared was.. DS: Gummy, it was Gummy-san. MC: Gummy-san!! Yeah, she would fit into a bar setting. DS: Right? MC: You don't happen to remember the song? DS: It was Ani, a Korean song. MC: Wow. Such an interesting topic.
Q7: Name an item you have liked & kept using for a long time. DS: I... don't really like change. That goes for my phone as well. As long as I can still use it, I won't exchange it for a new one. MC: Your wallet too, for example? DS: Yes. As long as I don't lose it... MC: If you don't lose it! Do you lose your wallet often then? DS: Not really! Last year? Or 2 years ago, I lost my wallet in the airport. But bet it was stolen! You know the sky shop at the airport? I paid something and put my wallet on the side of the counter DS: I remember clearly putting it there. And right after leaving the airport and entering the car, I noticed that it's gone. So it would definitely be early enough to still get it back, but when we called the shop, they said it's nowhere to be found. MC: Quite possible that someone took it then. DS: Right. So that made me realize that in the end, you can trust nobody but yourself. (audience laughs) DS: And that I need to be more careful. MC: So as long as that doesn't happen, you keep using it a long time. DS: Yes. MC: How about your bag? Do you use one? DS: I do. Actually there was one I used for a long time, not my current one but before. I kept using it for 3 or 4 years, but then the zipper broke. So I went to the store (where I bought it) to get it fixed. MC: A world star who goes to the store to gets the zipper of his bag fixed!! Wow. DS: I have used it for so long, and it's the inside that counts right? I felt bad just asking them to fix it, so I bought a new bag to make up for it. I asked them while paying. DS: And the staff told me "this model is so old! You're still using it?" MC: Wow. So the bag that you get fixed is at home? DS: Yes, I keep it at home. MC: I see... who wouldn't want a husband like that? Fans: I do!!! MC: Please keep on dreaming. Fans: (laugh)
Q8: How do you spend your time while on the move (flights etc)? MC: Perfect topic for your wallet story. DS: (laugh) right! Well... in general I don't eat the in-flight meal. MC: No way! DS: It's too salty. And I guess I just got tired of it. DS: During our world tour I realized something funny. No matter where you go in the world, for some reason the food on the plane tastes always the same. No matter which airline. The same goes for hotels. Similar seasoning. I don't like room service either. DS: So usually... I just sit and sleep. MC: But on your world tour - I mean a flight to Japan is only about 2 hours, so it's alright. But on a 10h flight, isn't it a bit tough not to eat anything? DS: Ah, on long flights I eat it! MC: But you're right, in-flight meals are a bit salty, to preserve the food. DS: Yes, and up high in the air, your taste buds are less sensitive, I heard. That's why the food is higher in calories and the flavor is much stronger. MC: Huh~ An in-flight meal pro MC: But I'm surprised still (that you don't eat it) I mean, first and business class food is quite good after all. DS: Oh, but I do drink wine sometimes. MC: (laugh) Makes you sleep well too! DS: Right, some wine and then (snores)
Q9: What is BIGBANG to you? DS: Right... hm... I have said this in the past, but... BIGBANG is like a puzzle. MC: A puzzle! (dramatic voice) five pieces form a perfect picture. If only one piece is missing, it won't be complete. Five pieces as one - BIGBANG! DS:🤣🤣👏👏 /Laughing DS: I want to record this! I can use it at interviews, just like that! MC: (laugh) DS: So yes, that's one of the meanings behind it. The other is - every piece is different, right? The five of us all have a very different character. We don't overlap. DS: In terms of music, we all like hip-hop, but apart from that we all like very different genres. And the things we like are different too. I for example am not interested in paintings at all. But since our interests don't overlap, we don't argue about them. DS: We just accept those differences. There's something I'm envious of though. When TOP for example drinks just a slight bit of alcohol, he will just keep staring at a painting for forever. (imitates his moved face) DS:  I'd watch him from the side wondering "what the hell is he even thinking about?" (laugh) He gets so inspired that he's about to cry, almost. Since we're artists, it's good to receive inspiration from many different things. So it's a good thing. DS: It makes me a bit envious that he has that, and it's a pity that I don't. But I suppose not having it gives me the kind of power of expression that I have, so both ways are good. MC: Different personalities. DS: Yes. We accept all our differences.

[171219] Delight 2 Release Events in Fukuoka - Fan Accounts
**full credit to mshinju for all fan accounts unless otherwise stated**
Release Event #1
In the 1st event (13:00) he replies to a number of questions from the fans that haven't made it into his D'na SHOW talk parts. He replied to about 8 questions in the first event in Fukuoka, all without any script.
Q1: What do you feel like eating whenever you visit Fukuoka?
MC: I think I actually know the answer.

DS: (after coming back from behind his chair) Exactly. So I always work hard thinking that tomorrow will be my peak!
Audience: Oooh!! 👏👏

DS: 🤣🤣👏👏
DS: I want to record this! I can use it at interviews, just like that!
MC: (laugh)
DS: So yes, that's one of the meanings behind it. The other is - every piece is different, right? The five of us all have a very different character. We don't overlap. In terms of music, we all like hip-hop, but apart from that we all like very different genres. And the things we like are different too. I for example am not interested in paintings at all. But since our interests don't overlap, we don't argue about them. We just accept those differences. There's something I'm envious of though. When TOP for example drinks just a slight bit of alcohol, he will just keep staring at a painting for forever. (imitates his moved face) I'd watch him from the side wondering "what the hell is he even thinking about?" (laugh) He gets so inspired that he's about to cry, almost. Since we're artists, it's good to receive inspiration from many different things. So it's a good thing. It makes me a bit envious that he has that, and it's a pity that I don't. But I suppose not having it gives me the kind of power of expression that I have, so both ways are good.
MC: Different personalities.
DS: Yes. We accept all our differences.
  Release Event #2
Event 2 was a review of the D’NA SHOWs in Kyushu. A few short videos were shown on the screen and the MC Furuya-san asked Daesung a few questions in between. Fans got an insight into background stories related to the shows as well.
Video 1: D’NA SHOW in Nagasaki; Daesung has his dramatic entrance for DiraDiraD game (with the cape). The point of the cape is, once he puts it on he turns into an evil character whose single goal is to win against the fans in the game. Once the cape comes off, he turns into tame, friendly Daesung again who'd always let the fans win (which would be boring). While Daesung fools around on stage the cape suddenly comes off. Daesung grabs the cape and runs off stage, under the laughter of the fans.
DS: I’m in shock.
MC: In shock..?
DS: You see.. every time I entered the stage for the game, I was trying to make my eyes look as big as I can. I opened them so wide that it was almost painful. But watching the video just now… not big at all.
Fans: (laugh)
MC: Were you surprised when the cape came off?
DS: I was. The cape is quite long, so I stepped on it and it came off. I lost my confidence (bashful) and wanted to run away.
MC: Your D’NA SHOW Tour had 39 events. Did the cape come off only this once?
Fans: mumble “several times…”
DS: …(laugh)
MC: There were more times?? Many times? I see.
DS: (defensive) It’s really long! You just step on it! So… yeah.
MC: Not just in Nagasaki.
DS: The one thing I concentrate on is making my eyes big, so I don’t bother with anything else, but… yeah. Just normal sized.
MC: I went to see your very first show in Maihama and the one two months later in Nakano. I didn’t watch any show in between so I was overwhelmed seeing this persona (cape Daesung)
DS: (laugh)
MC: When did this persona start?
DS: I wonder…?
Fans: Oita!!
DS: Oh! Yes Oita! I knew!
DS: In Oita the staff started playing the background music, that’s when the persona got established. I actually had no idea that they prepared music… (laugh)
MC: Wow! So this persona was born in Kyushu.
DS: You’re right! It’s all thanks to you (bows to audience)
DS: Your (fans) memory is really amazing.
MC: …I think I just heard someone say “it’s just that yours is bad”
DS: (laugh)
MC: You held 39 events within 3 months. (To fans) in that amount of time, the Japanese skills of this man here have advanced so quickly, I’m truly amazed!
Fans: (loud applause)
DS: (gets really shy) (applause gets even louder)
MC: You see, V.I’s Japanese for example
DS: He’s really good right.
MC: His Japanese is really good. But if you pay close attention, V.I-san communicates mainly with vocabulary.
DS: (laugh) what do you mean?
MC: When you listen to V.I-san’s stage talk, he animates the audience mainly with single words. Like “nande yanen” (popular Kansai dialect that just means “what the heck”)
DS: Ah… with Kansai dialect?
MC: Yes. But you D-LITE-san, capture the audience with your talk (= content)
Fans: (loud applause and cheering)
DS: (gets really shy again) No no… you see, it’s thanks to V.I. If it hadn’t been for him who already walked down that path, I might have taken the same approach. “nande yanen!!” “chau!!” It’s all thanks to V.I. Please applaud him! (claps)
MC: In any case, it’s not just that your Japanese is good, but you are a really good talker. Your talk goes straight into the heart.
Fans: (cheer and clap loudly)
DS: Ahhh so embarrassed!
Fans: (laugh)
DS: There was no script for these shows. The only thing in my cue cards were the questions that were shown on the screens, since I can’t read kanji I had them written down in Hangul. That was the only script. So the answers were all free… but the fans taught me so much. I learned many new words, like HanaKin (“flower Friday”)…that’s all I can remember right now…
Fans: 🤣
DS: Through 39 events I got comfortable talking freely in Japanese. I enjoyed being able to look my fans in the eyes while talking. It was really fun thanks to all of you!
MC: Sorry to change the topic so suddenly but... can I mention something?
DS: Of course. What is it?
MC: There was this moment that I was watching totally on edge… this weird yet funny moment on the first day in Maihama
DS & Fans: (start laughing knowing what comes next)
MC: (laugh) That moment when you invited the fans on stage in Nalbwa Gwisun. What I found so funny was that, despite you being the performer, you were completely cornered by the crowd of fans.I mean, you were standing on the edge of the stage like this (steps to the edge of the stage with only his heels remaining on the ground) I just can’t forget this sight!
DS: Right (laugh) now that it’s in the past we can laugh about it as a funny episode.
MC: But in that very moment..!
DS: It was really something (laugh) I had the idea for this part really in the last moment, during the rehearsal. We thought even if anyone would be brave enough to come up to the stage it would be at most maybe 10, 15 people. So I told the dancers, "the fans will be shy and probably won’t come up, so please encourage those in the front rows to join us on stage"
Fans: (laugh)
DS: But once the song started playing in the event, I felt it. “This is bad” (laugh). Just seeing the expression on their faces being anxious for the moment to come to rush to the stage… (laugh) I don’t think I have ever felt so uneasy. I was really standing on the stage like this (goes to the very edge) right? I really wanted to turn to look at my fans and interact, while asking them to please go back to their seats slowly, but… if I turn back and face them, it will only get worse, right? So I kept facing the front without looking at them. That way the situation would be safer.
MC: It was really amazing.
DS: Really, it was… that’s just how the world is (laugh) as an experience, it was good!
MC: So with every event, your MC skills increased and you kept growing, developing this new persona in Oita, losing your cape in Nagasaki. Lots of happenings. I heard some inside stories. In Kyushu you moved around by train. Some places are connected to shinkansen, but some are only connected to the local train network.
DS: Yes. It was really fun!
Fans: 🤣
DS: The staff reserved the front row seat for me even in the local trains. You know, with the driver's compartment right in front. The glass wall that divides the driver’s compartment from the front seats was so fascinating! (to the staff at the side of the stage) do you remember? (to the fans) the glass was so interesting, I kept looking at it!
MC: The driver’s compartment glass wall?
DS: Exactly! One moment it’s transparent, and the next it’s suddenly opaque. Really, in one instance! When was this developed? I was really amazed.
MC: So they changed the level of transparency in between?
DS: Yes! When the train was moving, you could always see the front through the glass. Then when it stopped at a station and the conductor started doing several tasks, it would suddenly turn opaque. So amazing.
MC: (laugh) fascinating glass technology!
DS: Yes! And… (laugh) it’s kind of embarrassing. I tried to film it but I never found the right timing (laugh) so in the end I didn’t manage to get a video.
MC: I was told that after your show in Nagasaki, you went to an Onsen.
DS: Right, Nagasaki was right in the middle of the tour, so we spent one night at an Onsen as a sort of halftime celebration.
MC: I picture it like this: Being a large group, you occupy a large tatami room-
DS: Yes, it was exactly like that.
MC: Really?! Like a Japanese dinner party?
DS: Just like that. The whole day.
MC: I see!
DS: I have videos of that day.
Fans: Eeeehhh~!! We wanna see!!
DS: I’m not gonna show you 😗
Fans: Hehh… 😕
DS: Please use your imagination!
Fans: (laugh)
MC: Totally fits the image of Delight 2!
DS: (laughs)
MC: A Japanese dinner party.
DS: Right. We ate lots of good food and then started the 2nd half of the tour.
MC: Your schedule is always so busy. Did you ever have the chance to stay at an onsen to have a dinner party before?
DS: It was my first time to have a dinner party at an onsen.
MC: First time! Despite having been active in Japan for a long time already.
DS: Yes. There aren’t many opportunities to go to an onsen in a group.
DS: Oh, but for this tour we had some band member exchanges due to the schedule, so even though I wanted to invite everyone, it wasn’t possible to gather everyone.
MC: (to the fans) so nice, going to an onsen together!
Fans: … 😒😑
MC: But you’ll be going to Hawaii together! ☺
DS: Right, Hawaii… uh… there’s no onsens in Hawaii though?
MC: You’re right. There probably isn’t.
DS: The beaches are beautiful though.
MC: D’na SHOW in Hawaii! So nice, must be so much fun… (longing face)
DS: (laugh)
MC: Do you have any special ideas for Hawaii already?
DS: Ah, we’re planning right now. It might be a bit embarrassing to continue with the Dira Dira D game in Hawaii… so I’m wondering what to do. Either try a new game that everyone can participate in, or keep Dira Dira D. I could turn it into Hawa-Hawa-ii.
Fans: (laugh)
MC: According to the staff, the audience in Kagoshima was really hyped.
DS: Right! Kagoshima was the first time that the fans started clapping to the music before the show started. Wasn’t it? (unsure)
Fans: (start discussing with seat neighbors if it was Kagoshima or Kanazawa)
DS: Hm, maybe it was Kanazawa.
MC: (laugh)
DS: Both start with the same syllable.
MC: The staff is saying that it was Kagoshima.
DS: They (gestures to some in the audience) insist it was Kanazawa.
MC: The staff seems sure. (to audience) Could you kindly not complain?
Fans: 🤣
DS: But I remember it clearly, Kagoshima. I was really amazed when I heard the clapping while waiting on the side of the stage. The fans’ reaction was really loud and good during the show as well. I also mentioned it on stage that day. I was really happy. I didn’t have a clear image of what Kagoshima is like until then, but my image now is this: the great reaction from the audience and great food. It’s a really nice place.
MC: So at every city in Kyushu there was a first time for something.
DS: That’s true. A special place.
MC: So the events in Fukuoka were on August 16 and 17. It was at the very beginning of the tour, right? Right after the very first two shows in Chiba Amphitheater.
DS: Yes.
MC: So how were the shows in Fukuoka? Fun?
DS: I remember the fans were really energetic. And also… Dira Dira D was a trial on the 2nd day in Chiba. So the first show in Fukuoka was the second time to do it. We had an alternative prepared in case it didn’t go well, but from Fukuoka onward, the whole structure of the show became very fluent.
MC: It seems Kyushu was a really important area for D’na SHOW.
DS: The staff also told me that the Kyushu part of the tour in particular was a lot of fun.
Fans: (clap)
MC: That’s nice. It means there are good memories associated with Kyushu. So this time was D’na SHOW Volume 1. We talked a bit about Volume 2 in the first event earlier today. Let’s suppose there is to be a Volume 2. What kind of things do you want to do? If you tell me now, I will prepare it for you!
Fans: (laugh)
DS: Well… it’s not decided at all yet (laugh) but… uh… hmmmmm… if there was to be a Vol.2, I'd keep the Talk & Live concept and change a few elements. Vol.1 was my first time to hold events of this structure. I made the setlist to fit a dinner show concept, so all songs were up tempo. Maybe the next time I could choose a wider variety, include ballads maybe. Uhh… (glances at the audience) I’ve been hearing a lot of opinions.
Fans: (laugh)
DS: I’m collecting a lot of ideas and will consider them for Volume 2.
MC: Well, we’ll be waiting. We count on you.
Fans: (applause)
DS: I’ll be back any time. As long as you call for me…
Fans: WE WILL
MC: You did the whole show on your own. Frankly - was it tough? 39 events, being both the MC and the performer. Being teased by the band members.
Fans: (laugh)
MC: At least physically it must have been exhausting.
DS: Hmm… physically yes, it was tough. But well, rather than it being tough, I paid a lot of attention to my health and fitness. I’ve mentioned this before: When one event ends, there’s another event on the next day, so even when I didn’t feel sleepy at all, I went to bed and forced myself to rest. I went to bed around 10pm.
MC: That’s early!
DS: It is. I use my voice a lot in the talking part, and then after that there’s the singing part. This tour made me grow a lot, it made me consider my physical abilities objectively so I was able to control my fitness well.
MC: And your MC abilities have grown so much, I’m sure you’ll receive a lot of offers for MC roles.
DS: The MC part was really fun. I didn’t feel a lot of pressure, to be honest. I think that’s why I could talk freely and make it a lot of fun. No pressure at all. That’s why at times I got really lost during the talk part (laugh) because no script is prepared whatsoever. It felt very exciting. When I got lost, I could just ask questions into the audience, and I got so many fun responses. Really, the fans played such an important role in this tour particularly!
MC: It was like catching balls back and forth between you and the audience.
DS: It was. I was almost surprised how funny/original they were.
<After MC excused himself & left stage the to Daesung for the live performance>
DS: (to fans) Ah, it’s so nice being able to talk with you in a relaxed atmosphere. Chances have become rare to perform in venues where I can clearly hear what you say. In a dome, I am able to hear your voices, but I can’t really make out your words. I pretend that I can of course.
Fans: (laugh)
DS: But it’s really nice that I can hear you clearly in this venue. I like that. It can be disadvantage too sometimes though (joking) (laugh) What day is today?
Fans: 19th!!
DS: The 19th. So the release is tomorrow.
*Fan in front row shows him the DVD version of his album in her hands.*
DS: Eh??
Fan: I already received it!!
DS: Oooh… even I haven’t gotten it yet.
Fan: I can give it to you!
DS: Oh? For real?
Fan next to her: Just give it to him, it’s ok!
DS: Wait wait. Why do you tell her it’s okay? Did you buy it for her? No? So it’s not yours. Why then do you tell her to give it to me? Hmm so you two are close. (laughs) Alright! So tomorrow is the release date. Delight 2… it includes a lot of different songs. There’s a special track called 아파 (It Hurts). This song… I think most of you won’t know this, but the track is the guide track that was recorded with my voice before the song became 2NE1’s song. So it’s recorded with the voice of my 20 year old self. I think songs are fate. The song fit 2NE1’s voices better so it became their song. But in the beginning when the song was composed, we first recorded a male version and then 2NE1’s, which became the official version. When I listen to the song today, I think my voice at 20 years old was really pure.
Fans: (laugh)
DS: It’s a bit tainted now.
Fans: Eeehh!!
DS: (laugh) So yeah, this special track is included on the album. Please enjoy the end of your year with Delight 2. Alright! I’d like to sing "A・ze・cho!!" now.
Fans: (seem unsure whether to stand up or wait)
DS: Please, feel free to stand up if you want to, or remain seated if you want to. You want to stand up? I want to sit. What do we do?
Fans: Stand!!
DS: Alright, just do whatever you feel like!
Fans: (laugh)
DS: Let’s go, A・ze・cho!!
(Daesung sings  A・ze・cho!! and “Soba ni ite yo”)
*MC Furuya-san joins Daesung on stage again*
MC: This song (soba ni ite yo) really makes you feel a lot of things.
DS: Right. It feels more like I am talking rather than singing in this song.
MC: Yes. My chest feels so tight somehow. But the VIP JAPAN in Kyushu will wait for you, and Motsu Nabe (famous dish in Fukuoka that Daesung likes) waits for you as well. So please come back soon.
DS: Yes, any time.
Fans: We’ll wait for you!!
MC: You’ll wait, right?
Fans: (cheer)
MC: I’ll wait too.
DS: Yes. So… what to do? With all of you waiting. I’ll come back soon!! (laugh) But honestly, thanks to your support this year was full of happiness for me. I think you feel the same - I have made so many memories this year.
DS: Just as I've been saying this on stage in BIGBANG’s concerts: I've prepared a lot of things for you to make sure you won’t feel lonely even when the blank period starts next year. So even when I go, really… I might have prepared too much, actually.
Fans: (laugh)
DS: So when I come back, you’ll probably be surprised “Eh?! We weren’t waiting at all?!” (laugh) I’m preparing a lot, so… please look forward to BIGBANG’s and also to my solo activities once we’re be back!!
(event ends with lots of finger hearts and “kuho suki” from Daesung)
Release Event #3
In the 3rd event (19:00) Daesung talks about his past solo activities. In Fukuoka, he talked about his memories of the beginning period of his solo activities, specifically D'scover time. Working on the album, his first solo tour, and a few specific episodes.
**to be updated**
misc fan accounts:
Daesung said that he's been working to prepare so many things for us to look forward to while he is gone (serving in the military) that we'll be surprised when he's back (because it will have felt so short). So curious what he's been preparing for us! (© mshinju)
Daesung said that the version of It Hurts included in 'Diraito 2' is the guide track recorded by him when he was 20 years old (so it's his voice from 9 years ago!), before it became a 2NE1 song cause a female voice fit the song better. (© susifg)
Daesung said that he doesn't care much abt art or business, and explained how sometimes, especially after drinking a bit, TOP can just stare endlessly at a painting on the wall in total amazement while Daesung would think to himself "What the hell is he thinking right now?!" 😂 (© susifg)

Day Nine [Internship at Mingan Island Cetacean Study]
14-Aug-2017
My eye was "ok" when I woke up, but then, guess what?!?!? Just as I was eating, it started hurting REALLY bad!! As in, I couldn't even speak!!
I went back to bed and didn't set up an alarm this time… I got up around 10h, to pee, but my eye didn't let me stay up, so I went back to bed. I tried to get up around noon… I tried it many times, and was almost giving up, but you know how my eye was fine, yesterday, when I was outside, and then it got bad as soon as I got here? Well, I decided to go outside to see if it made any difference… it actually got a bit better, so I decided to go! I got dressed and ate outside, in the wind, just to be on the safe side!
I went to the station around 14h, and spent a lot of time with one of the team members, calling doctors and pharmacies… you see, I’m avoiding going to the hospital, because I would need to pay the first $100, and then my insurance would cover it… but $100 dollars is like $300 in my currency, so that's a lot of money!! Not to mention that I've been to over 10 doctors because of my eye… just going to a random doctor wouldn't solve the problem… but I have an ointment with antibiotics, which I've needed twice, when I had a lesion on my eye (because it was hurting for too long, so it actually hurt the eye, and I needed that), but because I don't normally need it, bringing it didn't even occur to me (I brought the eye-drops and the gel that I put on my eye before going to bed)… but because it's an antibiotic, I can't buy it without a prescription… so I might need to go to a doctor, just to get a prescription… but here's the thing, if I go to the hospital, I will see a general doctor, not an eye doctor, and most definitely not a cornea specialist, so they wouldn't know my problem, and I could only get my prescription if they simply believed me and prescribed me something without really understanding it…!!
We tried an optometrist… but apparently he only comes here twice a month! HA! We started looking in Sept-Îles, and I got put on a waiting list to see one on Thursday, and today is still Monday… they offered to take me to Sept-îles today and try the hospital there, but I decided to wait until Thursday, now that I found out that when I'm outside, it gets better (like, it doesn't go back to normal, but it definitely gets more bearable), so I'm gonna try and work with that.
And guess what?!?! There was an interpretation in English this afternoon!! But I couldn't even follow them around, because I'd be the creep wearing sunglasses in a museum… but I listened to it from the balcony inside the museum.
Even though I wasn't in much pain (it was mainly discomfort), I was in no condition to work in front of a computer, so I just went outside to read. It started hurting again around 17h15, so I stopped reading.
Tumblr media
Now that I know that this motel is what makes my eye worse, I'm avoiding it, so I went to check out the market they have here (it's a 5-minute-walk from the motel). I was gonna go for a walk on the beach, but the girl said they were going to the woods, so I went with them… well, they were gonna run there, so I went first, walking and taking pictures, and met them by the station.
It turns out that they had never walked there (I was hoping they were gonna show me a nice way into the woods), so I actually knew more than them… we went to the places I've been to, last time, and kept on walking between the woods and the beach (because we 'find a way in). The sunset was beautiful!!
They ran back and I walked on the beach. My eye was fine, until I walked into the motel, and it started bothering me, again!! And I'm not even exaggerating!! And guess what?!?! It started hurting as soon as I started eating, AGAIN!! I'm telling you, there's something about that room… from now on, I'm eating in the kitchen, standing up!!
I took a shower, had a cookie that one of the girls made, then tried really hard to watch a tv show… like, the screen brightness was the lowest possible, AND I was wearing sunglasses, but I was still squinting… I managed it, though…
Tumblr media
I went outside just before going to bed… it’s crazy how instantaneous it is… step outside, gets better, step inside, gets worse… well, at least I know the secret now, so hopefully I'll have a better day, tomorrow!!

How to keep yourself sane during lockdown, with kids - 11 tips
How to get through this lockdown
And still have your mother-child relationship, and your sanity, intact
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({ google_ad_client: "ca-pub-5780888950421623", enable_page_level_ads: true }); Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Today marks day 20 of our national lockdown. Tomorrow was the day that we would have been set free, but thanks to a lockdown extension our parole date have now been postponed to the end of April. And I am not getting my hopes up too high - at this stage, I will much rather stay inside for another few weeks than stand the chance of being part of the reason that it spreads again. Plus, my anxiety is already through the roof just thinking of releasing my kids into the world again (not because I am scared of what they will do to the world after almost 40 days in the house - mind you that is a consideration - but more because WHAT IF THEY GET IT). 20 days without any outside interaction, no physical touch except for the people locked up with me. No outings (except for garbage day! Yeah!). And no one except myself to keep me sane.
How have you been faring? Coping? Not coping? Kids coping? Obviously, they have questions, and their insecurities not only feeds off of ours but also feeds ours. Vicious circle. I have tried my best to stay grounded and level-headed and would love to share with you my best tips. Hopefully, this can help you navigate the last stretch of this stormy journey!
My top tips for staying sane if you are in lockdown with your kids:
Create a creature or something that can be blamed
For us, it is a combination of the fairies and a ninja. If the kids ask where are the 10 easter eggs that they had left after eating the rest of the box - don’t know, maybe the fairies took them? Where is the toy that they have been fighting over for the past 4 days? The ninja took it. Who ate the last ice cream? Fairies. Who drank the last bottle of red wine? Nin… oh no wait, that was me. But the ninja made me do it.
Give in to screen time
I know Netflix is not a baby sitter, but do you know that out of the 24 hours we have, kids roughly sleep 10 of them? So if you have a better idea to keep them busy for another 2 of those 14 awake hours, please share. By 10h in the mornings, we have already done their worksheets (read Homeschool), painted, made breakfast, did an activity (I plan 2 a day) and had free-play time. We have been at it since 6h. So by 10h, I am ready to hire babysitter Netflix so that I can have an hour or who of constructive adult time (translation: 1 cup of hot coffee). The same happens at 7h in the evenings.
Change your morning or evening routine
I usually get up at 4h15. That gives me 2 hours of work time before the kids get up. Flash-forward to post-outbreak lockdown. The kids are out of their routines, we have not had enough motivation or time to settle into new ones (not positive ones in any way, do not be fooled by Instagram!) and so the kids are going to bed later than usual, but strangely enough not sleeping in later in the mornings. That means I get adult-alone time later in the evenings, so my own bedtime has now moved up with 1 or three hours. To stop the carnage that will ensue if I have to get up at 4h15 after going to bed at 00h, I have switched off my alarm and now rely on my two beautiful blessings to wake me in the mornings. Usually with demands for milo, sometimes sweetly.
Figure out how to video call
Yes, I know you will probably need video calling for your work. But you will also need it so that, even just for a few minutes, you can have someone else entertain your kids. Have them video call their grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, neighbours, teachers, heck anyone you have a number for who can give you a few minutes’ relief. There are even services (paid of course, but gran might not mind doing it for free) where someone reads to your kids. If video calling won’t work, then Youtube should be your new best friend. (just remember - safety first. Always make sure you know what they are watching on Youtube)
Be lenient
Understand that this is a trying time for your kids, and that they might not be able to really understand what is going on. They hear scary things like death-toll and critical on a daily, and without the context, this is even scarier. My 5 year old asked me the other day when will it be our turn to get the virus, like it is a book that you pass on to the next available person. Try to be lenient with them as much as possible, you know without actively encouraging them to be brats. Give them that extra treat every now and then, allow that outburst, and reprimand in a gentler way. Maybe the ninja will then be more lenient with you and that last bottle of wine…
Keep your body moving
I am not encouraging you to jump on the Instagram fitness bandwagon. I am encouraging you to play together with your kids. Teach them to skip, to jump rope, swim, to ride a bike. Play Simon says and bake mud cakes and jump on one leg. Do everything with them. After spending the afternoon as a frog, I can barely walk, but the joy they had on their faces (not to mention the joy I am providing now, practically crawling around) was priceless. And I got to move my body without any formal exercise routine.
Have at least one balanced meal a day
Pick one meal, and make it good. Pack as much goodness into that meal as you possibly can, and relax around the rest. I know sugar interferes with our immune system, and under normal circumstances, my kids are not allowed to touch the stuff, but this is extraordinary times. I am not saying allow them to finish a bag of chips every day, just that there is nothing wrong with having waffles for breakfast and pizza for dinner. Especially if they are home-made! So let go a bit and allow them to guide you.
Drink!
Water. I mean drink water. And tea. And coffee. Keep hydrated and check that your kids are hydrated as well. Nothing interferes with normal processes such as thirst, so keep them reminding them (and yourself) to drink.
Dress up
Now is the time to tap into your childhood dreams of being a princess or a warrior or whatever you dreamt of. Dress up, then have a playdate with the other characters in your house. Give in and allow your imagination to run free - you will be surprised how good it feels, and how energised you will be afterward.
Homeschool
This is the one thing I have dreaded. I do not have the patience nor the aptitude to teach my kids anything more than good manners and grit. Luckily my kids are 3 and 5 years old, so the expectations were pretty low (I hope, unless I missed that memo). Did you know that the best way for kids to learn is through free play? Where you give them an activity or toy and then give them gentle nudges that allows them to design their own game. I encourage my kids to keep themselves busy ALL THE TIME. So maybe I am not that bad at homeschooling :)
Accomplish tiny things
Last week we focussed on saying vanilla. It still comes out as vamilla. But we have 3 more weeks to go! Set small goals, so that you have the potential of accomplishing LOTS of goals, sometimes even daily. Singing “twinkle twinkle little stars” correctly, so the kids know how long to wash their hands for. How to correctly refer to the virus (no, not as THE VIRUS, it has a name you know). How to use your inside voice, even when outside. Little things that can make the worlds’ difference.
If you are struggling to find the good to focus on, now is the time to start a gratitude practice! Don’t know where to start? Start with my journal prompts, get them here
"We didn't know we were making memories, we thought we were only having fun"
More than anything else, I want to encourage you to find the light in these times. Yes, they are trying, yes they are not ideal, yes you feel as if you are going off of your rocker. But there are also so many good things. I was with my eldest when she lost her first 2 baby teeth. I have experienced firsthand how much my 3-year-old has changed over the past 4 weeks. They have taught me songs, I have watched movies never before seen, we have tried new recipes. So many things that I never would have had if this had not happened.
Want something constructive to do with this time? Declutter your home! Get my handy how-to guide here
I am stressed and anxious, the uncertainty is eating me alive. I am worried about the life that we will have to live in order to keep these two safe. But I am also so grateful and feel so blessed that I get to spend this time with them. That I get to keep them safe, see them grow, and help them adapt. It just goes to show that when you search for the silver lining, the dark cloud will start to fade.
Stay safe!
See you soon

Martin Scorses remembers how Armenian professor inspired him
February 11, 2020 – 16:53 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net – Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese has told the story of how Armenian-American professor of film Haig P. Manoogian inspired him to become a filmmaker.
“Having the asthma, I was not allowed to play sports, so everything came to me through movies on television,” Scorsese said in a video prepared by Rolex to promote excellence in filmmaking.
“I lived on Elizabeth street between Prince and Houston (in New York City – Ed.), but I never went to the West Side. And so I just went to the corner of Elizabeth and Houston, made a left and walked about six blocks and was in another universe.”
The future Oscar-winning director was accepted to the Washington Square College which was part of NYU (New York University).
“And so I attended this orientation day — this was an eye-opening situation — and this gentleman got up and spoke with such passion and such energy about cinema. I became part of the cult. His name was Haig Manoogian,” he said.
“Haig really inspired us. He pushed us and he cajoled us, he beat us down and he built us back up again. He set a fire in our hearts. It’s one of the most precious gifts I have ever received.”
Scorses said that his experience with Manoogian led him to becoming a guide for other young people coming up to him.
Manoogian is the author of the book “The Film-Maker’s Art”, published in 1966.
Scorsese’s 1980 film “Raging Bull”, a winner of two Academy Awards, was dedicated to the Armenian teacher.

Armenian Soprano Dazzles at Dresden Event
Soprano Ruzan Mantashyan performs at the 2020 SemperOpernball festival in Dresden, Germany
Armenian soprano Ruzan Mantashyan dazzled the audience at the SemperOpernball 2020 festival in Dresden on Friday with a dramatic performance of Tatiana’s aria from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin opera.
Mantashyan became a household name last month after SemperOpernball organizers reneged her invitation when a Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov said he would not perform with the Armenian soprano because of her ethnicity. After many protests and confrontation from Mantashyan’s agents, the singer was reinstated to the program
“I am happy that the performance took place and reached its logical and triumphant end,” Mantashyan told Armenpress after the event.
Yerevan Komitas State Consevatory lecturer Margarite Sargsyan shared a video of Mantashyan’s performance on Facebook, and praised the soprano. “This was truly brilliant. Well-done….This is our school,” she said.

Other musicians who performed at the concert included violinist Pavel Milyukov, soprano Yulia Muzichenko and pianist Alexander Kashpurin, as well as the Azerbaijani Eyvazov.

When it comes to battery life, Dell and Alienware offer some of the best results for gaming laptops. The G7 is no exception, as this system lasted 5 hours and 37 minutes on the Laptop Mag battery test, which consists of continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. That time was enough to surpass the 3:48 mainstream gaming average as well as the PowerSpec's 4 hours and the GV62's 2:05. However, the Helios outlasted everything else, with a time of 6:01.Heat I spent 15 minutes fending off a wraith in an attempt to transform a botchling into a lubberkin in Witcher 3. After the elapsed time, I measured key points on the laptop for heat. The touchpad measured 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which is below our 95-degree comfort threshold. The center of the keyboard was warmer, at 92 degrees, while the undercarriage measured 112 degrees. Thanks to the plastic panel, my lap didn't feel uncomfortably warm.
Once everything cooled down, we ran the test again, only this time, we had the laptop play a full-screen 1080p video. The touchpad, middle of the keyboard and bottom measured 78, 90 and 93 degrees, respectively. The G7's 720p integrated webcam is passable in a pinch. It's rife with visual noise and somewhat-accurate color, so I wouldn't recommend using this camera for livestreaming, but it'll be fine for a video chat or two. The camera did a good job of capturing the reddish orange in my dress, but the light green took on a grayish pall. At least I could make out the fuzzy ringlets in my hair.Dell should follow the lead of its sister brand, Alienware, and keep the bloatware to a minimum. Thanks to Windows 10, you have links for games like Candy Crush Soda Saga, Candy Crush Saga, Cooking Fever, Bubble Witch Saga and Hidden City: Hidden Object Adventure taking up space. There's also a link for Netflix and an offer to get 20GB of free Dropbox for a year, which is the most useful of the bunch.
The Dell-branded software is a bit more functional. For instance, you have Power Manager, which you can use to check on and maintain the notebook's battery health. Mobile Connect allows you to access your smartphone (including mobile apps) from the PC and vice versa, while Help & Support is a repository of common laptop questions and problems, with topics like navigating Windows and setting up and personalizing your laptop.Gaming-centric apps include Killer Control Center, which allows you to set network bandwidth priorities for your games and keep a tab on performance. There's also Nvidia GeForce Experience, which offers a suite of utilities designed to enhance your gaming experience, like Battery Boost and Game Optimization. The Dell G7 15 ships with a one-year limited warranty with mail-in service. See how Dell fared in our Tech Support Showdown, Best and Worst Brands, and Best and Worst Gaming Brands ranking.I took the $1,049 version of the Dell G7 for a spin. It has a 2.2-GHz Core i7-8750H processor with 16GB of RAM, a 1TB 5,400-rpm hard drive and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU with 6GB of VRAM.

The $849 base model has a 2.3-GHz Intel Core i5-8300H CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB 5,400-rpm hard drive and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU with 4GB of VRAM.Not enough power? Then you'll want to take a gander at the $1,599 iteration, which features an overclockable 2.9-GHz Intel Core i9-8950 CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD with a 1TB 5,400-rpm hard drive and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU with 6GB of VRAM.If you want a screen upgrade, you can get a 4K panel with the $1,399 model, which has the same specs as my review unit but adds a 128GB SSD to the mix.Dell's G Series notebook is an emphatic step toward the future that maintains a few good lessons from the past. Visually, the G7 15 is cut from a different cloth than either the Inspiron or the Alienware brands, giving the laptop an identity of its own. For $1,049, the laptop offers solid overall performance for all your multitasking needs. But more importantly, thanks to its Max-Q GTX 1060, budget-conscious gamers can get good frame rates on graphically taxing games. I just wish the screen were more colorful and the keyboard more comfortable.
Dell G7 15If you don't mind owning a laptop with an older CPU, you should take take a look at the Acer Predator Helios 300. For the same price as the G7 15, you get a system with a full GTX 1060 GPU, a longer battery life and a slightly better display. However, if you're looking for an affordable gaming system with a bold design, the G7 15 should be near the top of your list.Should you leave your laptop plugged in and charging when you’re not on-the-go? What’s best for the battery? It’s a tough question, and there are quite a few contradictory recommendations out there. It’s important to understand the basics of how the standard lithium ion (Li-ion) and Lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries in modern devices work. There are a lot of battery myths out there.
There’s no way to “overcharge” these batteries. When you get to 100% charge and leave your laptop plugged in, the charger will stop charging the battery. The laptop will just run directly off the power cable. After the battery discharges a bit, the charger will kick into gear again and top the battery off. There’s no risk of damaging the battery by charging it over its capacity. All Batteries Wear Down Over Time (For a Few Reasons) Your laptop battery will always wear down over time. The more charge cycles you put the battery through, the more it will wear down. Different batteries have different ratings, but you can often expect about 500 full charge cycles.

That doesn’t mean you should avoid discharging the battery. Storing the battery at a high charge level is bad for it. On the other hand, letting the battery run down to completely empty every single time you use it is also bad. There’s no way to just tell your laptop to leave the battery at about 50% full, which might be ideal. On top of that, high temperatures will also wear down the battery more quickly. In other words, if you were going to leave your laptop battery in a closet somewhere, it would be best to leave it at about 50% charged capacity and make sure the closet was reasonably cool. That would prolong the battery’s life. Here’s one clear thing: Heat is bad. So, if your laptop has a removable battery, you may want to remove the battery from the laptop if you plan on leaving it plugged in for a long time. This will ensure the battery isn’t exposed to all that unnecessary heat.
This is most important when the laptop runs very hot—like a powerful gaming laptop running demanding PC games, for example. If your laptop runs fairly cool, you won’t see as much benefit from this.Of course, many modern laptops don’t have removable batteries anymore, so this tip won’t apply in those cases.Ultimately, it’s not clear which is worse for a battery. Leaving the battery at 100% capacity will decrease its lifespan, but running it through repeated discharge and recharge cycles will also decrease its lifespan. Basically, whatever you do, your battery will wear down and lose capacity. That’s just how batteries work. The real question is what makes it die more slowly.Laptop manufacturers are all over the place on this. Apple used to advise against leaving MacBooks plugged in all the time, but their battery advice page no longer has this piece of advice on it. Some PC manufacturers say leaving a laptop plugged in all the time is fine, while others recommend against it with no apparent reason.
Apple used to advise charging and discharging the laptop’s battery at least once per month, but no longer does so. If you’re concerned about leaving your laptop plugged in all the time (even if it’s a PC laptop), you might want to put it through a charge cycle once per month just to be safe. Apple used to recommend this to “keep the battery juices flowing”. But whether this will help depends on the device and its battery technology, so there’s really no one-size-fits-all answer.RELATED: How to Calibrate Your Laptop’s Battery for Accurate Battery Life Estimates

#231 Carn a’Mhaim, #232 Ben Macdui, and #233 Derry Cairngorm
Tumblr media
Route: SMC route, cycling in from Linn of Dee to Derry Lodge
Height: 1037m, 1309m, 1155m
Date: 29 April 2017
Time to summit: 3h 23mins, 6h 23mins, 8h 13mins
Total time: 10h 56min (including cycling)
With: Dominic Williams
Weather: Overcast, cloud reasonably high but whiteout on Ben Macdui, snow underfoot from reasonably low, windy, vague showers.
Notes: Although it had been snowing earlier in the week, the MWIS forecast was predicting 90% chance of cloud-free munros so we decided to head to the Cairngorms. We began to doubt this forecast a bit as the mist seemed to be down over the top of the Cairnwell as we went over Glen Shee, although it did seem like it should lift. We were at the Linn of Dee carpark just before 10am and already it was quite busy.
The track from Linn of Dee to Derry lodge is very well maintained and solid meaning that Dom was okay even with his normal bike (I had my mountain bike). It was quite a quick ride in. At Derry Lodge there was a reasonable sized crowd gathered at the bridge and it emerged that it was two people we know from DMC’s wedding! We locked up the bikes and wished them all the best and then continued along the path towards the Lairig Ghru. This was another very good path making its way along through pretty pines.
Eventually we came to a river that we had to make our way across. The combination of low water levels and gaiters meant we didn’t get our feet wet - it was only once we’d got to the otherside that I remembered about the bridge mentioned in the walk books….We continued on and after not too long we took the reasonably obvious (particularly as there were now patches of snow) turn off to the flanks of Carn a’Mhaim.
We put our waterproofs on as it started raining, however it didn’t amount to much. It was a fairly continuous way up with a few zigzags along an obvious route. There was still cloud on the very summits of most of the tops that we could see, but when we stopped for lunch about half way up the cloud was beginning to clear a bit from Derry Cairngorm. We continued on, quite surprised by how much snow there was around, although most of it was fairly fresh. The ridge flatted off and we continued a short distance to the top of Carn a’Mhaim, from which there were good views down the Larig Ghru, although the bulky mass of Ben Macdui was still shrouded in cloud, as were most of the other summits.
We continued on following the ridge down to the col between Ben Macdui and Carn a’Mhaim. The ridge off Carn a’Mhaim was fairly well defined, and occasionally narrowish, while the way up, a good 500m, to the summit plateau of Ben Macdui was more a case of picking a line up a quite broad and boulder slope. As we climbed higher we reached the mist, and when it felt like we were possibly going in the wrong direction I decided to check on the map. We were slightly in the wrong place, but going up to the summit of the top above Lochan Uaine we then set a bearing and followed that across towards the top of Ben Macdui.
The mist and snow created whiteout conditions at times on the plateau. The points where there were no landmarks at all were quite disorientating not being able to tell where the sky and ground met or what the gradient of the slope was like. We passed the remains of an ruined building and from there it wasn’t too far to the trig point. It was very windy on top, although not that cold.  We managed to scare a few people who hadn’t seen or heard us coming. Because of the wind and complete lack of a view we didn’t stay very long at the summit, and had a snack in the lee of the ruined building. After eating we set a compass for the way over to Derry Cairngorm, following our and other people’s tracks.
We managed to keep in the right direction reasonably well although we did have to correct fairly sharply when we realised the slope was going to the wrong way from what we wanted. Soon we were out of mist and could see again! There was also a fairly clear path to follow curving around. We headed down over gradually lessening amounts of snow towards Loch Etchachan and then when we got to below Creagan a’ Choire Etchachan we contoured round and then up bouldery ground to the summit of Derry Cairngorm without too much effort. We had a brief stop here, and then began our decent.
The snow cover actually was quite helpful in meaning that we could take quite quick and direct routes down a lot of the slopes. Eventually we made it to the col below Carn Crom where we decided to stop for a bit of a longer rest and food as it was now about 7pm. Rather than going over Carn Crom we contoured round on a mostly reasonable path, although there was fairly steep bit of snow to cross. A good path took us gently at first and then more steeply down towards Derry Lodge, eventually hitting the forest, before emerging close the the bridge. By the bridge there were quite a lot of people camping, including one group with at least 12 tents between us.
The light was beginning to fade so we didn’t waste much time in getting on our backs and cycling along the track. We were some of the last people out on the hills I think, although we did pass a group of 3 men shortly before the car park. It was nearly dark by the time we got back, and very dark by the time we’d finished cooking and eaten our tea, but an excellent day out on the hills.
