anyways the release of the latest Shimmering Voyage album is bringing back all sorts of memories about the Fontaine Archon Quests including Childe's incredible stunning amazing cameos i love him so here's some food for thought.

the moment that strange woman- Skirk, you vaguely hear her name. it's short and otherworldly, fitting for someone with stars and facets etched onto their limbs- she tears a horrified gasp from your throat the moment she tosses Childe, Ajax, through that portal, and immediately you push past her and leap in yourself, ignoring Neuvillette's yells of protest. it's not as if you were supposed to be here in the first place, only your Snezhnayan blood saving you from potentially being dissolved, but you weren't about to let Ajax go without you after seeing his Foul Legacy form fall, armor cracked and smoldering. so you follow him again, tumbling through a void splashed with constellations and stars, leaving the Iudex and the Traveler and mysterious Skirk far behind.

you land hard on your back, the air rushing out of you as you gasp and wheeze. tall green grass sways around you, tickling your cheeks and bruised hands, and with a groan you roll over and sit up. your eyes catch a fluff of ginger hair amongst the foliage, and without even thinking you call to the prone Harbinger.

"Ajax!"

he stirs with a faint hiss, deadened blue eyes opening just a crack to gaze at you. a smile flits across his lips, but it's quickly stifled by a grimace of pain and the cracking of bones and skin. you reach for him with panicked worry, and are met instead by sharp, bloody claws. Foul Legacy grips your hand desperately, letting out a trembling whine as he drags his injured body closer and presses against you. the Abyssal monster weeps softly in your arms, shifting and curling until his head is leaning against your stomach and your hand is in his hair, trying to make up for the days he spent fighting that dreaded narwhal. you simply do your best to comfort him, threading your fingers through his thick hair and cleaning blood from his armor with gentle murmurs- you're safe now, I'm here, everything will be okay.

with you at his side again, Foul Legacy finally believes it.

cochise: i think quality time, she just likes being present with the people she cares about, regardless of what they're doing. she's versatile yknow.

cowgirl: physical touch. she's constantly linking arms with someone when walking or grabbing onto someone when she's excited and leaning on the others on the couch or fidgeting mindlessly with someone's fingers or hair. i feel like cowgirl is very physical even in small gestures.

fox: i have zero evidence for this but i want to say gift giving. like i think fox constantly finds random trinkets and such that she loves giving to the others. she’s scarily good at stealing from stores or talking a stranger into getting her something or convincing a cashier to lower a price (all of which partly inspired her name) and so she’s constantly collecting things to give to the others. and they’re always for specific reasons or reminded her of a specific person.

cleon: i'm thinking words of affirmation but like. in subtle ways. she always makes sure her warriors know that they've done good. she knows she asks a lot from them and its important to her that they know how valuable they all are to the gang.

ajax: acts of service for sureeee. ajax is most comfortable expressing herself through action and will go to unimaginable lengths for the people she loves.

rembrandt: i'm also thinking quality time for her. rembrandt just loves existing in the same space as the people she cares about - she likes to watch them and hear their voices and idly sketch while her favorite people are around her.

swan: also acts of service. she's similar to ajax in the way she protects and cares for the people she loves.

mercy: definitely physical touch, we've all seen the photoshoot content right?

Was going to make a post about how when Swan is counting off all the Warriors in Woodlawn Cemetery she doesn't do it in roll call order but she does put Ajax and Rembrandt right next to each other, which would indicate theyre standing near one another (when u are obsessed with a ship which is not actually real u gotta take what u can get) but I went back in the lyrics and Swan actually DOES say their names in roll call order BUT she swaps herself for Cleon. Diabolical. This fucking album man.

oh my fucking god i feel. SO stupid rn at How i didnt make the (super sane very normal just absolutely. Yes. Surely) connection earlier but uhh

so anyway im now like 89% certain that whatever the "traces" of the narwhal that remain on ajax and facilitate their (ever-growing) innate connection are like. an actually fundamental aspect of it (them?) more or less.

why? because if you consider its pov just for a moment. the narwhal was literally about to depart teyvat for good. it had nearly finished consuming the primordial sea and preparing to breach surface to finish the job by eating the french for the leftovers their human bodies were made from. its an interstellar voyager it does not linger on planets it devours. it goes glug glug and it leaves.

and like if it wasnt for traveler intervening its confirmed through narzissenkreuz and renes world formula that teyvat wouldve just been destroyed. no one could have stopped the narwhal not neuvillette not focalors not anyone.

so what was the one other thing it did right before going for that french brunch? calling for ajax. getting them reunited in the primordial sea. like all the possible implications aside bc theres many different ways to speculate on the exact reasons why and the nature of that link. the point remains.

it wasnt leaving teyvat without finding him.

like the narwhal is about to fucking Dip from this cringe planet and whatever part of it that ajax carries within himself his narwhal Absolutely wanted to be reunited with. what the fuck am i supposed to read from that. hoyo???????!??! answers?!?!?!

and its not only the calling from the narwhal side itself either bc this is ALL coinciding with the growth of a 'restless power' within ajax and his vision malfunctioning (the things celestia is literally confirmed to harvest energy thru to repair its damaged authority) and his connection with the narwhal reaching an actual conscious level (arguably subconscious n emotional too bc i find it Curious his mood is poor right as the narwhal is repeatedly described as positively malding to the point its boss fight mechanic is literally a rage meter). ajax' power is growing. his destiny is starting to shift and something is drawing him to fontaine... right as the narwhal is getting close to finished with the primordial sea. funny how it overlaps eh. how it aligns 🤨🤨 why are they orbiting each other like this (they should kiss)

(& not to even Mention how ajax just Happened to get that absolutely exponential and borderline unbelievable feat of power spike in extending his foul legacy endurance as massively as he did. while. within the primordial sea. with his narwhal. who had at that point all but incorporated the power of that sea into itself. i s2g if childe was getting passive home turf co-op bonus exp with a 4x multiplier automatically the whole 40+ days 💀💀)

even better if Ajax can't touch you, and you can't touch Foul Legacy. like Rex Lapis, you enjoy taking a human form to stroll around Liyue Harbor, being one of the few gods who view mortals as equals. you meet Ajax on one of these walks and become close, both of you eagerly waiting for the hour or so he gets after work each day so you can spend it together... although, for some odd reason, he can't touch you. his skin reacts harshly when met with yours, blistering and burning a bit, so you're both careful to touch each other as little as possible- but that's alright! you're perfectly content to simply sit next to each other on a bench and chat about everything and nothing

then you encounter Foul Legacy, and suddenly everything makes sense. as a Celestial deity, you're supposed to kill any Abyss creatures you come across- but you've always been a softhearted god, so when you see him collapsed in a field you immediately rush to help. but your eyes widen when you get closer, familiarity washing over you as the Abyss creature stares up, whining softly and curling in on himself. you simply smile, reaching to hold your Ajax's masked cheeks

pain sears your fingertips as they brush against his face and you draw back in alarm. Foul Legacy yelps as you jerk away, trying to nuzzle closer until he sees the blood dripping from your hand, the skin there completely melted and burned, and he balks in horror. he cries out sharply and hunches over in shame- of course this would happen, he's from the Abyss and you're from Celestia, how could he be so foolish? but then he feels your arms wrap around him, squeezing him gently, comforting him, and he wants to cry, attempting to struggle out of your grip. it's been so long since he was held like he was something precious, so eventually he weakens and just allows you to hug him, holding him tightly despite the awful pain that burns your flesh
