🔥on the hetalia fandom (if that's too controversial than prupol lol)
Fandom Unpopular opinions
There is not enough kinky smut with lithuania
People are way too intense about shipping and are way too intense about their blorbos. Coming from Tumblr 2016 to 2022 Tumblr i think we've traded classic shipping wars to a whole different type of war.
Just because you relate to certain things about a character doesn't mean people can't change it or people can't criticize aspects of that character.
I haven't experienced much my self but I've heard the war stories from my mutuals and good Lord!
People need to be more interactive on AO3 seriously comments are so helpful with writing feedback is such a highly useful tool in writing. I didn't realize until i started writing how valuable comments are. Now I will comment on as much as possible. And everyone else should too!
Unpopular opinion on prupol?
Not enough people have discovered the joy of this ship. so there isn't many really bad hot takes that I can drag through the mud. I know! it's sad!

a little late to the game I hope u don't mind but I read ur comic(s) about being Chinese and gender and imperialism a loong time ago (it feels) and it made me cry then and I found and reread it just now and it made me cry again, they're just sooo ;;;;;; the line 'the chinese are conservative, but who's values are we conserving?' absolutely engraved in my brain now 😵‍💫 it reminded me of this thing I saw tho, abt how ppl are using X也 for a gender-neutral ta and although I'm happy there's a movement towards inclusivity, it feels kind of ironic that the west and its pronouns would split 她 from 他 and now the reintroduction of gender-neutral ta uses a western roman alphabet X as if they're introducing the concept to us or smthn. it tastes a little bitter as a result lol
!!!!! Wahhh thank you, I'm so glad you liked my comics!! It's always so nice to hear that people still connect with them ;w;
And urgh I have such mixed feelings about X也 for the exact reasons you're stating 😵‍💫 I wish we could just bring back viewing 他 as completely gender-neutral again rather than circumstantially gender-neutral like it is now... I guess X也 is a step in the right direction for people who want that but at the same time, using X not only feels like imposing something foreign onto the navigation of gender within our culture, but it also feels like it's just exacerbating the whole issue of the 人 radical in the same way replacing the person radical with the 女 radical in 她 did

✒️ 🪞 💌 :3 muah
✒️ do you have a headcanon that you love, but directly contradicts canon?
ummmmmmmmm I do not think rome is the italies' grandad 👍
🪞do you have any physical appearance headcanons for your favourite character?
Well I hc India to have a wavy hair texture in contrast to his canon appearance, and I draw Tibet with slightly longer hair :3
💌 what are your "essential" ships? (in your version of the hetalia universe, these characters have to be a romantic pair - and them not being one feels weird/wrong)
gosh.... hmmmm I would say India x Iran LMAO there was just so much cultural exchange and history between Indian and Iranian states it's impossible for them to not be in lurve (or in and out of it, at the least)

I noticed no one has asked 23 yet >:3 also 47 for Yuan? I've been thinking of his little cabbage face and how he says 'How so, exalted father⁉️' for the past week
23) Top 3 butts
Number one butt is Turkey!! It’s shaped nicely and he works out in the gym several times a week to get the perfectest ass ever ❤️ second is Mongolia because I hc that he’s thicc everywhere including ass (perfect for gripping during sexy times) but with nyo!Mongolia she’s number 1 because her body is perfect in a motherly way including the thicc childbearing hips and ass ❤️ surprisingly, third best butt is Timurid lol ❤️
47) [Yuan’s] guilty pleasure?
I’m glad you loved that post!! 🌞 SO Yuan is still in the a development stage, but he has a lot of guilty pleasures because one part of him is meticulous and hard on himself while the other is impulsive ahah. There’s this number one guilty pleasure for him tho: he really can’t handle nomadic life for the most part and it makes him feel so guilty before his dear father but he can’t change 🤣 on the other hand, Mongolia was still a lot frugal and nomadic because in my head he’s the nomad’s nomad, and he deliberately limits the influences of luxurious royal life on his own self so he wouldn’t get rusty. Anyway, Mongolia would leave for many months a year into the steppe and he would often ask Yuan to come with him, but while Yuan honestly loves the steppe and can stay there a few weeks he Really, Really can’t do MONTHS especially with the kind of (peasant, esp for Yuan) lifestyle Mongolia has. He literally shakes with guilt as he begs for his father’s forgiveness and that Mongolia would find it in him to spare him lol.
Something I want to explore also is the hapa problems Mongolia’s hapa kids has. Uh, I guess since they’re all still Asians they’re not hapas?? But still, most are children of two different cultures and I bet they would clash sometimes. Yuan has a lot of (personal) conflicts between nomadic and sedentary life, not to mention between Mongol and Chinese culture lol. Ilkhanate is both nomadic and Persian influenced. Chagatai quickly got influenced by Central Asian sedentary Muslim culture. The only one who has 0 problem wrt clash of culture is Golden Horde lol.

@tianshiisdead help our post is blowing up
tbh the amount of tags ive seen being like "i learned something new" or expressing absolute shock at the normalization of what is essentially chinese raceplay in japanese fetish culture makes me quite happy we've had this discussion publically. because this is a subject that honestly isn't studied well but HAS history:
Desire Sung with a Lisp: Chinese Women Represented in Japanese Popular Songs During Wartime; thesis by Amane Kusai
The Allure of a Woman in Chinese Dress: Representation of the Other in Imperial Japan; chapter by Ikeda Shinobu
Politics, Art & Eroticism: The Female Impersonator as the National Cultural Symbol of Republican China [in the Imperial Japanese Worldview]; chapter by Catherine Vance Yeh
and is just... incredibly normalized, like beyond sexualized caricatures of chinese women in anime/manga. "cheongsam" is a whole category on japanese porno sites. (you can google it!)
but also the lack of awareness on this kind of aggrieves me because for me personally, the only discussion i've seen of intra-east asian fetishization on mainstream sms is like. regarding genshin's sexualization of the kimono or whatnot. it's a fair and valid critique and it is worth criticizing. the hegemony of white supremacy means that even the marginalized can reproduce white supremacist ideas against other marginalized people (it's like women who perpetuate patriarchy against other women). chinese media in general is no stranger to this, especially with it's depictions of inner asians, southeast asians, MENASA, and black folks.
but i would argue that the conversation about how japaneseness specifically is presented in chinese media takes place under a premise that ignores the reality of japan-china modern relations. there's absolutely very little recognition that in the contemporary era, japan is the largest east asian producer of culture. and as a consequence, china's pop culture is therefore heavily influenced by japanese pop culture.
i think it's unfair to accuse chinese media of japanese fetishization without recognizing this fact. unperfect example, but: it's not too different from the the fact that east asian makeup and fashion styles are popular in southeast asia. it would be bad faith to accuse southeast asians of fetishization without recognizing that east asian pop culture dominate a significant part of their media (though this doesn't excuse the fact that many seasian govts have a pretty bad history w their chinese minorities!). the fact this seems to be completely ignored indicates to me something metaphysical; there's a default guilt placed upon china wrt japan in spite of the historical-cultural facts. it's sinophobia ingrained into discursive "common sense".
on the contrary, japan's fetishization of chineseness, in it's current-day iteration, is based on racial hierarchy. maybe you could potentially make an argument that any pre-meiji objectification comes from the same place as mentioned earlier (with china being the historical lingua franca of east asia) ... but as it stands now, the casual sexualization of china comes from the imperial era which sees chinese people as an object to be dominated. if you read the sources i've listed and if you watch japanese imperial movies like Shina no Yoru and find similarities of how the Chinese female lead is portrayed to characters like Chun-Li, Ada Wong, Shampoo, etc. ... the literary legacies of japanese colonialism will reveal itself.

I can't believe I must do this so early in the morning, especially on this account that I was trying to keep up for more important issues, but people have been lying about me as of late and I'd like to correct (without starting an argument just a few things!)
As a reminder my native language is not English so if I make a grammatical mistake sorry
@miyuecakes made a post responding to an anon my friend sent (while claiming she had sent 2 with no evidence). I'm not here to talk on that as I am not my friend, did not she had sent it until it was to late and I'm not Muslim. What matters is that she used my account to send this anon and that miyue was hurt.
After that, people started to spread lies in the comment section and I'm only here to clarify
@tianshiisdead
Tumblr media
(the screenshots aren't the best sorry)
I was not using the word drama in a bad way, but I don't know how else to word it? Discussion? Argument? I've also been struggling with issues myself and did not want to mess things further. Regardless. I did not want to be involved.
If this was a situation in rl and my friend said something mean to a person I did not know would I need to apologize to them? I take responsibility that it was sent trough my account but I cannot control her words. I cannot take responsibility for something I did not do.
Tumblr media
I cannot speak to miyue directly because I don't know them and their account is set so that nobody that they don't follow can text them. I quite physically cannot. I dont know their other socials and did not want to invade their privacy I also, did apologize. But I'll show that later
Tumblr media
I did not send harassment, my friend sent one anon worried because she felt disturbed. It's also a lie you didnt know
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the conversation me and tianshii had
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did apologize, I had already explained the situation, you did know what happened. I didn't reach out because I couldnt and since your friend was doing bad I did not want to post stuff publicly. Why lie? I have no problem with your friend replying to my friend's ask. It's her right to defend herself . And I'm sorry she was hurt. But I've done what I can.
Do you want me to apologize or do you want me to beg for forgiveness about words I did not say? This was 2 months. We're you keeping "dirt" on me?
@luyous
Tumblr media
Id also like to reply to this!
My friend had the password to this account way before she sent that as when I made this account I was going trough some bad stuff and decided that it was best to give someone I trusted my password to make sure I wasn't doing stupid shit on here (pro ED stuff)
I repeat my friend sent 1 ask. It was not harassment. I'm sorry that it happened and that she hurt yiy but I can't take back words she said.
I don't know miyue, I have nothing against her, I don't know her story and I don't mind that she defended herself.
I simply don't want to be involved as the perpetrator when I wasnt. Please stop lying about me as I have not lied about you.

aahhh love you @merrinpippy
3 ships you like: sephiroth/cloud, frostiron, Vincent/Sephirorth
first ship ever: sephiroth/cloud
last song you heard: Hurricane - Halsey
favourite childhood book: This bugs me cause I have no idea what it was called, but it was a book where each page had a story on it with fairies and gnomes and stuff, and it was fucking big, like it had a handle on the spine to carry it around. Like in retrospect it was probably only 12x18 inches but that was huge to a 4 year old. I remember I would read it every fucking night. One day it got damaged by water and got moldy and my mom had to get rid of it and no one fucking remembers the name to it.
But outside of that book, nightwatch by Pratchett
currently reading: idk what this means, i am completely illiterate
currently watching: fucking training videos. i wanna buff that fucking resume up son
currently consuming: water
currently craving: fresh squeezed orange juice
tagging @dancinglanterns @tianshiisdead @exotisque and anyone who wants to do it really. i know i am forgetting people but my brain is all BZZZZT sounds

I think there's a lot of small things i see people do that is so encouraging and just helps to make this such a cozy place!

Hi! I really love your OC content so much ❤ I just wanted to ask how you did research for your OCs, if you don't mind sharing? I find wikipedia is quite spotty + even academic articles can be biased or racist. How do you prevent accidentally getting a wrong impression of a culture with a lot of common misconceptions?
Hmmm, so when researching OCs, I usually try to sketch out a rough outline of their demeanor and personality, and try to be flexible to change in response to newer, more accurate information- Ive had to do that a lot, and I don't think it's anything to ashamed of!
When it comes to sources, I also try to prioritize sources and media written by relevant people themselves, like subreddits, quora, youtube relevant social medias. Now, they will give you a very biased perspective, but I find it interesting to consider nevertheless! Its usefulness is also limited by the fact that I'm only decently fluent in reading English 🥲🥲
Something I always try to remember when researching about cultural differences is remaining empathetic and avoiding othering/exoticization. We may have different cultures and lives, but I think we have more in common than we believe, especially between communal cultures. I try hard to give my OCs something that people frm that community will recognize as familiar, like they could be someone you know, just like you and I embed our homeland with traits that we see in ourselves and our people.
(Lastly, I also try to keep in mind is to keep my level of detail proportionate to the accurate information and sources I have. This is part of my philosophy of remaining flexible with new information, it's okay and natural to keep ur ocs only roughly sketched out for the time being)
I answered a question about researching for OCs here! I reference the Canada Cultural Information as a source of information, but sadly they've since taken them down but you can find them on the wayback machine i believe? and if not I downloaded them prior so dm me haha

Kazmon! Also turkmon and tibmon ehe
😘
Kazmon:
Tumblr media
Kazmon is in all honesty when you want to do Mongolia ships with his neighbors but keep it safe! Because really, basically NOTHING has happened between them 🤣 no bad stuff, but also not eeexactly wholesome stuff either. They are for the most part like cousins who sometimes visit each other and talk about stuff, they understand each other pretty well, but for the most part just coexist peacefully (aka ignore each other).
That’s the public face, but I think they secretly keep tabs on each other? Typically knows what’s going on in each other’s houses before the others outside their region do. But they don’t have many things to do with each other so they don’t meet up much. I headcanon that when they do meet up they will bond over many things tho because they have pretty similar hobbies mindset etc etc. And blood is thicker than water; this is a big part of them being somewhat attracted to each other. So I ship them for certain potential no one has really explored before.
Also even tho technically Kazakhstan is Mongolia’s descendant, and while Kaz respects Mongolia for their shared history and ancestry, Kaz is a proud dude himself and see each other as direct equals!!
Tibmon:
Tumblr media
I can’t say much because I really don’t know anything about Tibet (he’s not a steppe nomad so I don’t care much LOL) but they’re pretty intriguing! I can see a deep friendship!
Montur:
Tumblr media
My ultimate Turco-Mongol ship LOL. Two people who share an ancestor, drifted apart, and then rediscover each other again! Also they’ve been conquering each other or be conquered, nice. They’re equal and mutual and I love them for it. Montur to me is like travel lovers who are v chill with each other and will have fun whenever they meet but not much beyond that? They are massively fascinated by each other but it’s also all very relaxed, if you know what I mean!! None of them carry like, this deep feeling for each other and they don’t exactly miss each other when they’re apart. But will go at it like the most intense lovers when they’re together.
**
You will notice that I crossed the ‘I don’t really see them as romantic’ box in all the ships, and tbh that’s how I see Mongolia personally. I think he’s like, not much prone to actual romance? He can get into relationships for many kinds of reason and he can return advances, he can love others deeply, but I don’t think it’s romantic much in the end. He can be possessive and he loves challenges/fueled by spite, he wants to protect, provide and has massive ego, he likes it when people grovel on his feet LMAO but when I really think about it he’s not much into actual romance with any of his partners. When he’s into others, he is into their charisma, intensity, sexuality esp etc — but the desire to romantically own is quite absent? This is a working hc currently tho. So Mongolia is like aro or demi.

What do you think about the drama about the head cannon that South korea is the child of America and North korea? I would like to get your opinion since your korean if thats ok
hi anon, sorry for the late reply lol i’m terrible at checking my inbox.
honestly, i don’t feel like there’s much more for me to add to the discussion that other people haven’t put more eloquently and in a lot more detail. i don’t want to beat a dead horse, so i’ll just refer you to @itstokkii’s post, @irithnova’s post, and @tianshiisdead’s post because they do a great job of breaking down why that hc is in pretty poor taste (to put it mildly).
honestly i just find this whole debacle funny and sad because i’m just like wtf is going on. western paternalism be going crazy. it gave me a good laugh but at the same time i’m in disbelief that this line of western propagandistic thinking is still around in this community to this day.
ultimately, i think that hetalia fans (especially the white/western fans) need to take a step back and re-examine their implicit biases. like yes these are just silly animanga characters, sure—but the preferential treatment and historical whitewashing afforded to certain characters (read: the us, the uk, russia, etc etc etc) speak to a greater willingness on the fandom’s part to just hand wave away all of their problematic aspects (again, putting this mildly) in favor of woobifying them.
the bottom line is this: if we want to engage with the historical/political side of hetalia, especially regarding issues as politically charged as this, we have to be equally prepared to have difficult conversations about (western) imperialism and interventionism and the damage these countries wrought on their victims. do i think the op or the person who sent that ask had malicious intentions? no. but i do think it’s indicative of cultural ignorance and how we should be wary of the ways in which that ignorance can (even unintentionally) lead to erroneous, offensive thinking.
