[Song to the Siren / Sixteen Days]] [This Mortal Coil] [1983] [12inch Single] On the A side of this 12 inch single is the medley "Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust". The songs of this medley were originally written by the New Wave Band "Modern English" "Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust is interpreted here by members of "Cocteau Twins", "Colourbox" and "Modern English" themselves and the singer Gordon Sharp. A very nice 1980s New Wave postpunk song that sounds a bit like a mixture of "The Cure", "Siouxsie and the Banshees" and "Sisters of Mercy". . Now to the actual pearl on the B-side: Already in 1967 Tim Buckley and Larry Beckett wrote the extraordinary great song " Song to the Siren". A song of such power and depth and that only with voice and guitar, a song that could run in an endless loop forever and ever. . 16 years later the incredible happened. The project "This Mortal Coil" created the most breathtaking and magical version of "Song to the Siren". È la voce di Michele Selva a condurci alla scoperta della musica e dei testi dell’artista americano nato a Washington ma trasferitosi giovanissimo nella calda California, luogo in cui muoverà i primi passi tra cover band e collaborazioni entrando in contatto con il genere folk; l’incontro poi con Lerry Beckett e altri musicisti della scena popular lo porteranno invece ad una prima ribalta sui palcoscenici della scena di Los Angeles. Arrivò poi la paternità, quella che riguarda il figlio Jeff, con il quale condividerà lo stesso sorriso, il destino beffardo ma anche e soprattutto una voce inimitabile. I primi contatti con il manager Herb Cohen e il produttore Paul Rotchild, lo condussero all'Elektra Records, dove nel 1966, pubblicò l'album di debutto dall’omonimo titolo, "Tim Buckley”;  negli anni successivi arriveranno anche “Goodbye & Hello” (1967) e a chiudere il decennio “Happy Sad” e lo stupendo “Blue Afternoon” (1969).

Tim non ebbe un riscontro particolarmente fortunato dal punto di vista commerciale, dovuto anche ad un rapporto complicato con quella critica musicale che si accorse troppo tardi di lui, un elemento questo che gli procurò una forte depressione e il conseguente abuso di droghe e alcool fino alla prematura scomparsa all’età di 28 anni. Tuttavia, la sua voce intrisa di affascinante malinconia e di un’enorme espressività lo ha portato ad essere considerato come uno dei più geniali ed innovativi cantautori della storia del rock.
