One of my favorite characters from one of my favorite books series.  Mr. Canis, aka the Big Bad Wolf, aka Tobias Clay from the book series The Sisters Grimm.  If you’re into young adult stories and fairy tale adaptations, give it a shot.

Lunch doodles~
I don't remember length of time, but probably 2-3 weeks.
It's a mix of all my characters from various stories and a bonus of 2 Tav doodles because BG3 still lives rent-free in my brain.
Tumblr media
It be a mix.
Tumblr media
And to shine through on its own paper, a Malfius doodle! I really like a white (and red) figure against a solid black background for my Devils & Details stuff. Fits the mood for the stories. Kills sharpies, though.
Tumblr media
And this page has the two doodles that tied for favorites in this batch!
Namely the hair-down Esther taking the top left/middle, and my Tav at the middle right.

love how canis is low-key the "came back wrong" trope but only specifically for Howard Hatchett
like Hatchett very much believed that Tobias Clay was gone, like turned into a monster, no hope of ever seeing him again gone. as dead as he can be with still technically being alive with a magic wolf piloting his corpse
so finding out the man he thought was dead and whose nonexistence forms the basis for the life he's built? who Hatchett could've possibly helped if he'd told a single magic-user in a town full of them that the Big Bad Wolf used to be a human, so there might be a way to change him back? Terrifying. Absolute worst case scenario.
But then...nothing happens. Nobody seems to care that his fairytale is full of lies. Cue the creeping realization that it's not that nobody cares; nobody knows. Tobias hasn't told anyone, can't tell anyone because as far as he knows, Tobias doesn't exist. There's only Canis, who lives with the Grimms and has always been a monster and who looks Hatchett in the eyes without a shred of recognition
Canis is a dead man who came back wrong and for twenty years, Howard Hatchett is the only person knows

Since you asked (and also I'm curious your take), what RWBY weapons the Animorphs havin' in your head?
So this is also going to go into semblances etc because one of the things I like about RWBY is that all of that is connected. Ruby's weapon only exists in the context of her being a speedster, Yang wears shotgun gauntlets because getting hit while she gets close is a good thing, etc.
I also had to really work to avoid the instinctive "everyone gets clawed gauntlets" option, because Tiger Claws/Gorilla Fists/Bear Claws are just iconic looks but we don't need 4 chars like that.
Elfangor: A kusarigama, which is a chain with a knife at one end and a sickle at the other, used like a complex whip. This requires little explanation, it's just such a good match for the Andalite tail. He's an insect faunus antennae. His semblance is the ability to sense other's semblances with his antennae, which is both how he recruits random kids and has them turn out to be very effective, and how he's so good in a fight(he always knows what his oppts are trying to do). Blue.
Jake: Yeah, he gets clawed gauntlets, with the claws able to launch like grappling hooks(similar to Ren's weapons in later seasons). Close-up brutal weapons, designed to ensure the fight stays close-up. His semblance is Reflexes, he can slow the world down. He doesn't move any faster when he does, but he thinks faster, which both makes him a deadly close-up fighter and an extremely effective leader when things go bad. Orange.
Rachel: Rachel goes unarmed, because her semblance is Morphing. If she, or someone, kills a Grimm near her, instead of it vaporizing, it collapses into the death liquid. She can use that liquid to turn herself into any Grimm she's fought before. Which would be really strong, but it starts off useless if there aren't Grimm around, and she's not sure how much of her love of battle is her wanting to protect others and how much is the evil she soaks herself in every fight. That question gets worse when she stops needing to kill Grimm because she can just sprout the black liquid to transform herself. Yellow with red accents(when she transforms, the yellow vanishes and the red remains amongst the black).
Cassie: Tonfa that are also pistols. (Tonfa are t-shaped batons: skill heavy weapons better for defense than offense and great against other weapons). They're mostly hard to kill with, but can be extremely effective when they need to be, which fits her and her endurance-based combat. Her semblance is healing, which is on-the-nose but I wanted one of the kids to be able to patch up exposed intestines and decided to make it her. The fact that she can also stop someone's heart if she wants to makes her throw up when she realizes, but she does it in desperate situations. Purple.
Marco: A sniper rifle/boar spear, which is a heavy spear with a crossguard to keep dangerous things from getting impaled, running up the spear, and savaging the wielder before death. He likes keeping far from danger. The crossguard can be collapsed to use like a normal spear(or used as a mount when sniping), which is better against humans and also usually what gets him stabbed(Marco's the Weiss of the group). Semblance is Guerilla Warfare, he can shroud his allies, blurring distinguishing features to make them harder to recognize during fights. Silver.
Tobias: Recurved bow. He stabs with an arrow if someone gets close, but as an insect faunus with wings(and a semblance that makes him lighter so he can use them), he mostly tries to fly out of enemy's reach and snipe. Their first big fight, he screwed that up, and a Lancer punched through his spine. Cassie couldn't get there to heal him in time, Rachel was too busy fighting to notice, and Jake saw it happen but couldn't warn him fast enough. Now he flies, but can't walk, and the only member of the team who doesn't blame himself for that is Marco. Brown with red accents.
Ax: Elfangor's kusarigama. No explanation needed there. Ax is a similar faunus to his brother, but he's mute, and uses his semblance, Thought Speak, to communicate via broadcasts from his antenna. Blue.
I went back and forth on whether Rachel or Cassie should morph while the other heals, but Rachel turning into an Ursa/Megoliath won out. The color schemes are a guess, I'm no artist. I really wanted to make Tobias a hawk faunus, but the link to Ax/Elfangor had to happen.

what are YOUR five top favs in the sisters Grimm series? OR, what are your faves in each book? (Like which character you think shines the most in each title in the series)
For Overall:
Mr. Canis: I think you'd understand why. He's full of angst. The good stuff. Though to be honest, as a kid and even as an adult I was super disappointed when he was cured of the wolf. And MB's writing for him afterwards didn't really help convince me otherwise. Tobias Clay is just not as interesting of a character. I mean he had small moments, but with everything else going on it felt like MB lost a bit of interest in him as well. Still for 6 books he was the best thing.
Sabrina: Really solid main character. I really related to her as a kid and she's one of the rare kid protagonist that's even better as an adult. I even made an OC to be her big sister/mom figure because she needs that support. So many times the books have been unfair to her when her point of view is correct or at least very understandable. She deserves much better.
Charming: He, Sabrina and Canis are probably the trio in this series with really significant character development and growth. With Charming it is probably the most apparent out of them all. As an adult, he is also the character type I love the most. The ego-manic who learns to be a bit more humble even though he had a heart of gold all along. Rare opinion though, I wish he kept some of his book 1 ego until the end. That kind of stuff doesn't just go away and you can be a better person while keeping some of your quirks. Still I think MB did a great job with him.
Mirror: I did not see the twist coming at all as a kid. He's a bastard, but amazing. His death made me cry even though it was kind of lame in some respects. His feelings were valid even though the books didn't follow up with his schemes in the best ways, he's still great, unique and interest as a villain. I wonder how Mayor Heart and the rest would have felt though to know their "Master" was a "lame mirror".
Bunny: She's hawt. It is rare that a female character gets the same status and vibe of a tumblr sexyman, but that is her for me. She's perfect. I love her lots. I wish this series as an animated show just so I could see her and hear her talk cool and be all mysterious. We love a queen.
I don't think too many of the one off character stand out enough for me to really call them my favorites. Sure there are a lot of funny scenes and quirky Everafters, but without backstory/development, I don't care for them that much in the wider picture. A handful I really like are maybe: Hamstead, Scrooge, The Wizard of Oz, Puck's brother (the one that became king), the Editor and Baba Yaga.
Book 4 had a lot of really good characters.
Hot take though. Ms. White was kinda lame. Maybe it just because her knowing martial arts is too expected from Shrek and all the Disney hate. But okay what does her going to self defense actually have to do with her backstory? Nothing. She ate some poison because she didn't know about stranger danger. The Queen didn't attack her physically so her knowing martial arts ain't gonna help with shit. I would like to see a version of Snow White that works with CPS or the FDA.
