Crash (Mini-Series) - The Chemical Attack Crash Part 1 🎭Tobias and Aurora rush to Edenbrook after learning Casey was involved in the chemical attack. As Casey and her friends try to come to grips with what's happened, others are taking the steps necessary to try to save her, Raf, and Danny. Tobias is determined to find a cure, but will he be on his game?

A New Chapter ❤️‍🩹 They met. They fell hard. He screwed it up. But when a crisis hit, he rose to the occasion; but where does that leave them? When the doctor goes to visit his patient, he finds out.

Just Passing By... ❤️‍🩹 It's roughly three weeks after the attack, and Casey is just back home from the hospital. She's struggling with the aftermath, and her friends can't seem to help. Tobias passes by on a whim, and the roommates are not happy to see him. But how will Casey feel?

One Step ❤️‍🩹 It's a month after the chemical attack, and Casey's still not ready to face the world. She'll only leave home for therapy with her recently reunited friend, Tobias, playing chauffeur. But today, he wants to see if she's willing to take a little step back to being her old self.

With Warning (Short Series): First Shot: Jackie and Bryce ❤️‍🩹😂 Six-Weeks Post Attack Jackie's day off does not go as planned when one, then two, unexpected visitors appeared. As Casey got ready for her lunch, "not date," Jackie & Bryce had some words for Tobias.

With Warning (Short Series): Part Two: Ethan Ramsey ❤️‍🩹 Eight-Weeks Post Attack A confused Tobias heads to his old watering hole to relax, but uninvited self-reflection gets in his way. He finally gets it under control when Ethan shows up, and the visit isn't necessarily friendly. How does the night end... and who isn't being truthful. A/N: I had so much fun with this one. I'm really enjoying exploring this point of Tobias & Casey's relationship.

With Warning (Short Series): Text-Fic Supplement: In Good Times & Bad ❤️‍🩹Casey's having a rough time, and Tobias is there.

With Warning (Sort Series): Part Three: A chat with Sienna ❤️‍🩹 Tobias is there for his friend Casey when she's struggling months after the chemical attack. During a visit, he has the chance to talk to Casey's best friend.

Christmas Through Your Eyes (Short Series) Part 2: With a Capitol T ☁️Tobias asked his friend Casey to join him on a trip back to his hometown of Washington, DC. It's turned into a competition about whose city does Christmas best, and both are determined to win. In part two, join Tobas and Casey on their journey from Boston to the Nation's Capitol. Part 3: The Philadelphia Story ☁️ Tobias took his friend Casey to his hometown of Washington, DC, to show her how they did the holidays. She was impressed, but now it was time to show him how it was really done in her hometown of Philadelphia. As they spend time surrounded by Christmas magic, will they be able to keep their promise to be "just friends?" A Bite of the Apple ☁️ Tobias took his friend Casey to see his hometown of Washington, DC, all decked out for the holidays; then, she showed him how her hometown of Philadelphia did it. Now, they make one pitstop on the way back home and decide what city does it best... and wrestle with what they mean to each other. Christmas Through Your Eyes Epilogue 🎄☁️ When the weather thwarts Casey’s plans to be with her family on her first Christmas following the attack, she is touched by her friends stepping up to make it special. Especially when Tobias passes by on his way to Kenmore.

The Big Secret ☁️ Casey and Tobias are trying to figure out what they are to each other; when she calls him to meet her at Donahue's, does she let it all out?

1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played? 

It was sometime in 2017, and the first book I ever played was The Royal Romance, Book 1.

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

I joined a couple Facebook groups in 2019. I just wanted to discuss stories with others who were interested, as no one in my real life reads Choices. I didn't even know I was entering a fandom. lol I started reading fanfic on Tumblr the following year, but I found Tumblr intimidating, so I was mostly a silent reader. I didn’t start writing and contributing until May 2021, mostly because Open Heart was ending and I was in denial. 🙂

3- How did you pick your blog name? 

It’s pretty boring, actually. I’m from NJ, and I write. I wanted it to be JerZwriter, so people would know it is Jer-ZEE-Writer, but that wasn’t doable, so it’s Jerzwriter, and most think it is Jerz-Writer. Oh, well!  

4- Pull up the first and last posts in your archive, and tell us about them!  

My first post was the first chapter of my Ethan x Casey x Tobias love triangle, Delaying the Inevitable (OH).  It was my very first fanfic and I really didn't think I'd write anything beyond that.  I was so green back then, not only to fanfic but to the fandom as well. I’m really glad that I was naive because I don’t think I would have had the courage to post it if I had, but I’m glad that I did. 

My last post was Falling for You, a little drabble I wrote for Tobias x Casey (OH), and it featured a commission by the talented artist @weetlebeetle. It was a light, fun piece that took place early in Tobias and Casey's relationship, and it shows Tobias at his absolute simpiest. Lol 

5- Do you write fanfiction, create fan art, or are you one of those really gifted people who do both? 

Oh, how I wish I could draw, but I can't.  So, I’m strictly a writer. I may try giving drawing a go again, but I don't expect much to come of it. lol

6- How long have you been creating for Choices and for any other fandoms?

Choices was the first fandom I ever wrote for, and I started in May of 2021.  So, just over two and a half years. I have written a little bit for some other fandoms since that time, but I primarily write for Choices.

7- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to create for?

Tough question.  I write for Open Heart, Crimes of Passion, and Wake the Dead, and they are three of my favorite stories. I also loved Desire & Decorum, but I never wrote for it.  Though, I’m planning a re-read, and you never know. 🙂

8- Share your first Choices fanfic or fan art that you posted with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were creating it today?

It was the first chapter of Delaying the Inevitable. I was so green when I started that series that I’m sure there are things I would change, but I’m still very proud of it.  That series will always have a special place in my heart.  I’d like to revisit it one day to “clean it up”, it could use some condensing. But I would never change the storyline.

9- What is your favorite piece of fiction or art that you created? 

This is such an unfair question. lol The Delaying the Inevitable Series definitely comes to mind, but I’m also very proud of my Eli Sipes prequel stories, A Mother’s Journal, Coming Up Blank, and The End of the World. But Tobias and Casey are my favorite pairing, and I simply love the world I created for them. And while my headcanon for them is my favorite, I cannot pick just one fic for them, and I'm not going to! lol But, I've also written a bunch of AUs for them, and Friends* is one of my favorites.

10- Do you have a fic/art that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to do well but found it could use a little more love?

Yes, to both! The fandom is much smaller today, but back when we were more active, I learned you couldn't predict how a fic would be received.  There are too many to name, but I will say whenever my smut does well (and quite a few of them have), I’m always astounded. lol 

11-  If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why? 

This is such a difficult question because I believe the best stories incorporate a little of each, and, as a writer, exploring all three helps spur creativity. Also, my absolute favorite is angst with a happy ending, so there is definitely some fluff in there (and I'm never mad at a little smut being thrown in!) But if I were forced to choose, it would probably be angst.  I think that's where I am strongest, and I just love raw emotion. I think that’s where character development really occurs. I have not written as much angst recently, and I miss it.  Perhaps I need a change in 2024. 

12 - Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

There are definitely parts of me in my MCs and OCs, but I do my best to prevent them from becoming self-inserts.  I'm not as cool as any of them, that's for sure! lol That said, I do find inspiration for my fics in real life, so there is bound to be a little crossover. When using real-life inspiration, I try to change details so that the fiction is not a carbon copy of the real-life event. Normally, by the time I'm done, they're hardly recognizable.

13 - What element of writing/art do you struggle with most? Where do you feel you are strongest?

I struggle most with setting a scene. Dialogue is my strong suit, and that just flows for me. It flows so much that sometimes I forget to describe what's going on around the conversation. I think this is particularly easy to do in fanfiction because so much of the "world" has already been provided for us, so I recognize this more when I'm writing original works.

The other thing I struggle with? Brevity. I know I can go on, and on, and on. lol I've gotten much better at this, but there is still room for improvement.

14 - Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

(Elsa leaves the room, quietly crawls under her desk, and hides…) YES!!! Far, far too many, and no matter how much I share those posts that say, "You don't have to finish! If you're not feeling it, move on!" I don't believe it! lol I really want to make wrapping them up a priority in 2024.  But I also know writing - particularly good writing - cannot be forced.  So, it's a goal, but I'll only do it if I feel it’s right. 

15 - If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to see your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you show them first? 

It would depend on who asked.  I’m not ashamed of writing fanfic at all, but if I believed the person would be judgemental, I wouldn't be willing to share.  A few of my friends have read select pieces of my fanfic, and I’ve always received positive feedback from them. I wouldn’t be opposed to sharing more.  What I'd share would depend greatly on the person asking.

16 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing or art? Are there any artists that influence you?

There are many published writers that I admire, but I don’t think they've influenced my writing here. Within the fandom, there are many writers who have inspired me in different ways. There is no way I can ever name them all. But I'd like to give a shout-out to some.

@jamespotterthefirst and @bex-la-get were among the first writers I read when I joined Tumblr. I found their passion for both canon and the worlds they created inspiring, especially as Open Heart was nearing its end and all of us addicts needed our fill. Reading their works helped keep the story alive for me and so many others, and it inspired me to try my hand at it as well. To my shock, they were both so encouraging and supportive of me when I arrived, and I'm forever grateful. Back then, I thought they were rockstars - and they are! But now, they're also friends. I wasn't familiar with @alwaysmychoices from the start, but when I came across their work, I was just blown away.  Weekend with Dr. Ramsey will live rent-free in my head forever, and that headcanon about Charlie calling Ethan the night before she marries someone else. (I faint.) Ohhh, the delicious angst! The way she made me feel what Charlie felt was just mind-boggling, and it encouraged me to really dig into my character's emotions and bring them to life in a more meaningful way.

Early on, I read @utterlyinevitable, and the thing that impressed me the most was how Dom was willing to "write stories that “went "go there.”  They tackled issues that others wouldn't touch.  In their world, everything wasn’t perfect, including the characters themselves. I admired that vision and, frankly, bravery, and it definitely encouraged me to write what I wanted to and not what I felt was expected of me.

More recently, @mydemonsdrivealimo inspired me to explore parts of my MCs that I have not delved into in the past.  In particular, Casey's bisexuality. It can be challenging to represent a bisexual character when they are in a straight-presenting relationship, and you risk alienating readers no matter what you do (looking at all readers here.) So it becomes easier to be lazy and ignore it. But that's a disservice to the character as much as it's a disservice to people living similar situations in real life... like I have many times. Through MJ's writing and our conversations, they've helped me become more aware and do a better job in this regard, and I'm not even sure if they know this - it may totally be news to them lol - but I'm eternally grateful. Now, I feel my girl Casey is free, and OMG, how I love our characters playing together in HC now!

Then there are @lilyoffandoms and @storyofmychoices, who bring joy to all that they touch. Who knew when Lily created a little drabble putting our characters in a new world together, it would end up being one of the brightest fandom spots of 2023? Who knew that so much more would stem from that one work? Seriously, it's been one of the highlights of my fandom experience this year, and it's helped me to find inspiration at times when I felt like it was lost. Thank you both - I am so lucky to have you both here!

There are so many more I could mention, but I'd still forget people and feel horrible, so I want to take the chance to thank every writer in the fandom for sharing their gifts with us. Each of you is an inspiration in your own way; each of you can give someone an idea, and you have no idea where that spark will lead. So, never stop sharing!

17-  Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series? 

Delaying the Inevitable, Friends*, All in the Past, and the WIP What’s Forever For. I also think some of my Ethan x Tobias works would have made for a good sitcom, and how I wish my Tobias x Casey friendship with Bryce x Jensen would be an epic sitcom. The world needs it! lol   (Jensen belongs to @mydemonsdrivealimo.)

19- Do you write original fiction or create non-fandom art? 

I do. Mostly shorter stories that will never see the light of day, but also some more substantive works... which will also never see the light of day! lol I wrote a novel-length political thriller some time ago. It would need a ton of work to bring it up to 2024, as the political landscape has changed so much. I also have two original WIPs I've been writing. One is an angsty story about a friendship that's loosely based on a childhood friend I lost to cancer a few years ago.  The other is a polyamorous romance about two best friends who fall for the same person. It's really a beautiful, emotional story. If I like the end result, maybe I'll let it see the light of day... maybe. lol

20-  What other hobbies do you have?

I enjoy theater, and I'm lucky enough to live in the best part of the world to partake in that.  I go to a lot of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and local theater productions. I also love going to concerts - they’re like group therapy! Trust me, I got more out of seeing Noah Kahan and Hozier in 2023 than I did from the entirety of sessions with my therapist - and I loved my therapist. lol

Prior to 2020, I did a fair amount of traveling, and I hope to start doing a little more this year.  But I have to admit, since the lockdown, I’ve become more of a homebody, and I like it, so we’ll see how that goes! 

I used to be very involved with activism and advocacy for women’s, lgbtq+, and mental health issues. I still am, but in a different capacity than I was in the past. These issues require people fighting for them, and doing so has always been a huge part of who I am, but it can be draining, and burnout is real. I really reached the end of my rope. So, nowadays, I work as a volunteer for a couple local organizations that really mean a lot to me. I'm not involved in grassroots efforts or taking trips to talk to legislators as often, but I'm helping people on a smaller scale, and that still goes a long, long way.

22: BONUS - tell us anything you’d like (if you want to).

As most of you know, I’m one of the mods here at CFWC, so it was a little weird when my the wheel landed on my name.  But, honestly, it’s happened before, and I've just spun again, even though I am eligible. But this time around, I decided to do it. This fandom really means a lot to me, and I wanted to share a little more about myself and my crazy pixelated people.

I'm truly grateful to everyone in the fandom who does their part to make this a place that many, like me, still see as a place they want to be. We're smaller, it's imperfect, it has plenty of problems, but I am choosing to focus on the good... because there is much more of that than there is bad. So, thank you to each of you... and I hope we all have a wonderful 2024! xo

PS... My header... I know Tobias wasn't technically an LI... which was truly criminal. So, that's what fandom is for, fixing what canon effed up. lol My favorite canon LI is Trystan Thorne (COP). I tried adding their picture to the header alongside Tobias, but it looked terrible, so here I am. :)

My February Challenge Masterlist

So January is done and I still need things to occupy my time while I’m laid up so onto the next challenge. A Choices February 2024, Choices Pride, and other fandom challenges seemed appropriate since I’ll go back to work right around the 14th so it gives me copious amounts of time to draw lovey dovey (platonic included) art for the season.

Mystery Unlocked: A Night of Intrigue at Edenbrook

A/N: This is dedicated to @jerzwriter, my Writer's Month writer and @lilyoffandoms, who graciously hosted the event!

Synopsis: Ethan keeps skipping out on their Escape the Room group date nights, so they bring the mystery to him.

In the brightly lit office of the Head of Diagnostics at Edenbrook Hospital, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation. Tobias and Casey, Bryce and Olivia, along with Ethan and Merida, had gathered for an escape-the-room mystery.

Ethan sighed, his annoyance palpable. "I don't understand why we're doing this. It's a waste of time."

Tobias leaned against the wall, a smirk playing on his lips. "Oh, come on, Ramsey. Where's your sense of adventure?"

Casey chimed. "Tobias is right. You missed out on our last two escape room date nights, so we decided to bring the next mystery to you."

Olivia's gentle voice offered reassurance. "Don't worry, Ethan. I have nurses checking on your patient."

"Yes, they all know the diagnosis and the plan," Casey insisted, itching to get started.

Merida nudged him gently, "Besides, love, it might do you some good to loosen up. Even you need a break every once in a while."

"I thought we took a break last weekend when we—" His gaze shifted around the room, noticing all eyes on him. He lowered his voice only for her. 

"Don't hold out on us, now, Ramsey," Tobias laughed. "There's no shame among friends."

"You sure you can handle it," Merida challenged, a sly grin spreading on her lips. "It gets really spicy." She wagged an eyebrow playfully.

"You do realize you're in the room with these two," Bryce laughed, gesturing to Casey and Tobias. 

"Don't remind me," Ethan frowned, crossing his arms in stubbornness.

Tobias laughed, the mischievous glint in his eyes undeterred. "You might actually enjoy yourself if you give it a chance."

Casey joined in, her tone teasing. "Who knows, maybe you'll uncover your hidden detective talents."

Ethan rolled his eyes, though a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "I'm a world-renowned diagnostician and head of this department. A simple locked room mystery holds little challenge to me."

"Oh, it's on! You're going down!" Casey declared her competitive nature showing through. "We've got this one!" She wrapped her arms around Tobias's neck, pressing a kiss on his cheek.

Olivia interjected with a warm smile. "Well, it's all in good fun, right? We're all in this together—"

"You did not just quote High School Musical to us," Merida interrupted.

"What?" Olivia's eyes widened. "I thought it was appropriate! I just thought we could all work together to solve the clues. Teamwork? No?"

Bryce's hand ran down her back as he wrapped his arm around her waist. "Looks like we'll be a team of two." He pressed a kiss to her temple. "My favorite team."

"If you're all finished, you can leave my office." 

"You would think that, but that would defeat the point of this little exercise." Merida sauntered to the office door, turning the knob demonstrating that no one would be leaving. "Except we can't".

"Let me see that," Ethan grumbled, stalking his way to the door. Finding it locked, he tried switching the locks, but nothing. "What the—"

"It wouldn't be an escape the room mystery if you could, you know, escape the room without the mystery," Bryce explained. 

"Looks like you're stuck with us," Casey teased, throwing an arm around Ethan's shoulder. "Better get started."

Merida leaned in, "Think of it as a chance to outsmart them all if you prefer."

Ethan's competitive spirit flickered to life. "It won't be much of a challenge, but alas, it will bring an end to this nonsense."

Bryce laughed heartily. "Now we're talking! Let the games begin!"

Tobias rubbed his hands together eagerly. "Alright, how do we get this started?"

Olivia's gaze wandered around the room nervously before she produced an envelope from her bag. "I think I might have an idea."

There was a chorus of intrigued murmurs as Olivia opened the envelope and withdrew a small card.

"Wait, you had that the whole time?" Ethan exclaimed incredulously.

Casey grinned, stepping forward to defend Olivia. "Well, who else in this room would we trust more to hold onto the first clue?"

There was a collective nod of agreement, accompanied by smiles of approval directed at Olivia. She returned their gestures with a soft smile of gratitude before turning her attention back to the card.

"The diagnosis is clear, but the path forward is hidden. Seek the pulse of life in the heart of Edenbrook. The first clue awaits where the ailing are mended."

Tobias raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued. "Ailing and mended... sounds like the diagnostic room to me."

Casey nodded. "It makes sense. Let's see if there's anything in there that stands out."

The group, fully engaged in the game, followed Tobias and Casey to the diagnostic room connected to Ethan's office. Everything seemed to be in order. Diagnostic texts lined the shelves on the wall. The most recent scans and test results lay across the table/

A stethoscope hanging alone on the coat rack in the corner caught her attention. Merida smirked. "They weren't kidding about the pulse of life."

Curiosity getting the best of him, Ethan picked up the stethoscope and inspected it closely.

Casey's eyes narrowed in thought. "Perhaps it's more than just a prop."

Tobias grinned, stepping closer. "Maybe we're supposed to find a hidden message within it."

Ethan held the stethoscope, his fingers brushing over the chestpiece. Something felt off about it. The weight wasn't right. He carefully twisted the bell from the diaphragm sides, revealing a hidden compartment. Within its enclosure, he pulled out a small folded piece of paper. He offered it to Merida.

"You found it; you read it." She smiled, pleased he'd have to partake in this interactive adventure.

Despite his grumpy countenance, his tone reflected a different story. "If that will allow us to proceed more quickly so this trial may end." The corner of his lip pulled up as he read the next clue, "To move forward, seek a spark of brilliance. Find the beacon of innovation, where diagnostics and progress intertwine, tied together by a shared history." 

"What's that supposed to mean?" Bryce questioned, taking the note from Ethan to read it himself. 

The group shook their heads, looking around the room, hoping something would stand out to them. 

"Let's take it one piece at a time," Casey decided. "'To move forward seek a spark of brilliance'; so to get to the next clue and move forward, we are looking for something that stands out or includes knowledge, maybe both?"

"Maybe a book?" Olivia suggested, gesturing to the array of medical texts and journals lining the walls. "They'd contain knowledge and would certainly include innovative procedures relevant for diagnostics and progress in the medical field." 

"Which one, though?" Bryce questioned, his gaze sweeping over the numerous titles. His fingers raked through his hair. "This is going to take a while."

A grin spread across Tobias's face. "Maybe not. What was that last line about shared history?"

Casey read it again, "Find the beacon of innovation, where diagnostics and progress intertwine, tied together by a shared history."

"Shared history," his gaze met Ethan's, who smiled in understanding. 

"The Principles and Practice of Medicine," Ethan agreed. His fingers hovered over the books, locating the text in question. Carefully, he guided the old text from its spot on the shelf. He had the good fortune of finding an original 1892 print. It wasn't cheap, but its contribution to medical history was something to be cherished. He opened it carefully, revealing another note tucked in the front cover. 

"Not that I'm surprised you're brilliant," Casey's fingers danced up Tobias's arm. "But how did you know it was that book?" 

He turned into her, brushing a strand of her hair away from her face. The back of his fingers lingered on her cheek for a moment. "Shared history. Sir William Osler published the text when he was a professor at Hopkins." His gaze locked with hers as he kept her close. 

Ethan cleared his throat. "I also knew which book it was and located the next clue. Sir Osler was also one of the four founding physicians of Johns Hopkins Hospital. His contributions led the field of internal medicine for decades."

"Thanks for the history lesson, Professor," Tobias teased. "I thought of it first."

"Yet, I retrieved the clue. That makes two for me. How many does that make for you?" Ethan boasted.  

"Oh, congratulations, Ramsey! We're all so impressed with your brilliant clue-finding skills," Tobias quipped, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Merida shook her head at Tobias moving beside Ethan."We are very proud of you." She pressed a kiss on his jaw. A subtle smile of delight danced on her lips. Despite what he might protest, he was enjoying himself, and that's all she wanted to see. "What does the next clue say?"

Ethan stood taller, his gaze sweeping over the group before reading the next clue, "Within these pages, knowledge resides. Seek the tale of a diagnostic journey, where the answer to your quest may be found."

Olivia leaned forward, intrigued. "The 'tale of a diagnostic journey'—it sounds like we're meant to look for a specific case study or area of study."

"Somewhere in this text," Merida clarified.

"So what are we waiting for?" Byrce reached for the book. "Let's just thumb through it quickly and see if we spot something sticking out."

Ethan blocked his attempt, stepping back to prevent his hasty reach for the book. "This text is over a hundred and twenty years old; one does not just 'thumb' through it."

"Maybe someone dog-eared one of the pages," Tobias suggested, knowing the thought of such an act would get his blood to boil. 

"If any one of you, or whoever helped you orchestrate this trying event, has defaced this historic text, you will find your tenure here shorter than you expect." The vein on the side of Ethan's head was practically pulsating at the thought. 

Casey and Tobias bit back their chuckle at his frustration. 

Merida placed a reassuring hand on his back. "I'm sure your book is fine." 

"It was Naveen," Olivia blurted out, no longer able to keep a secret. 

The group turned to her. 

"I don't like lying," she admitted softly. 

"Who said you were lying?" Casey questioned compassionately. 

"Well, not sharing who helped is a lie by omission, isn't it?" Her doe eyes widened. "Naveen organized everything and placed the clues. I'm sure he would never harm your book, Ethan."

His gaze narrowed on her a moment as he stepped closer. "Thank you for that." His eyes lightened as he opened the text to a page in the "Diseases of the Nervous System" section. "Perhaps you'd like to do the honors."

He handed the book to Olivia. 

Beneath the diagram 'representation of Cortical Localization in the left hemisphere showing the speech centres', Olivia found another note on a yellow Post-It note. 

"How'd you know where it'd be?" Tobias questioned, looking over Olivia's shoulder at the note.

"Naveen used to have a print of this diagram on his office wall when I first started," Ethan explained proudly. "He specialized in neuroscience before settling into diagnostics."

Olivia took care not to disturb the text as she peeled the note from the page and read it aloud: "The path to freedom is closer than you think. Look beyond the unity of your memories of a time gone. A puzzle solved together, and the door shall open. A successful end will bring your escape."

Casey considered, "The unity of your memories of a time gone... medical memories or personal?"

"Our shared memories would be personal," Olivia decided. "We're not in the same field medically. We've shared cases between us, but never all of us on one case."

Tobias joined in, thinking aloud, "A puzzle solved together… We've been working together to solve these clues."

"It has to be something specific," Bryce offered, his gaze traveling the walls of the room. 

"Something representing the six of us," Olivia nodded her agreement.

Tobias smirked as his eyes fell on a photo of them from a group date night earlier in the year. 

As he stepped toward the framed photo, determined to be the first to find this last clue, Ethan cut him off. 

"Too slow, Carrick."

"Not quite," Tobias maneuvered around him, taking the photo, but Ethan's hand was there too.

"I don't think so." Ethan held one side as Tobias held the other.

The pair's gaze narrowed on their competitor, neither willing to let go. 

Not wanting the situation to escalate, Bryce stepped between them. "Gentlemen, let's not forget the purpose of this exercise. It's not about who's smarter; it's about working together."

As the two competitive diagnosticians continued to grapple over the photo, the girls exchanged amused glances. Casey, Olivia, and Merida snuck past the boys and reached the bookshelf that had held the frame. Casey retrieved a folded paper that was tucked on the shelf beyond where the frame had stood. She gave her friends a knowing look. They read the clue together and then followed its directions—texting a number with a code. The faint sound of a door unlocking was lost beneath the argument still ensuing. 

Casey pocketed the clue, with the guys none the wiser. She grabbed a Post-It from Ethan's desk. Her pen moved quickly across its surface. She slipped the note on the shelf, replacing the one she had taken.

"Well, boys, enjoy your intellectual Olympics," Casey quipped unnoticed.

The girls quietly exited the room, leaving Ethan and Tobias arguing over who was smarter and who was really top of their class at Hopkins, and poor Bryce playing referee.

"The titans of intellectual prowess locked in an epic battle over a photo that isn't even the clue." Merida shook her head. "Will those two ever let it go?"

"Probably not," Casey decided.

"Should I offer congratulations to you three?" Naveen greeted them. 

"It was a wonderful success. Thank you, Naveen," Olivia hugged the older doctor.

"Naveen, can I ask a favor?" Casey bit her lip. "Mind locking the door again? I don't want the guys missing out on their own successful navigation of the clues."

His brow rose, studying her face. "Only if you don't let Ethan know I agreed to that."

"You got it!" They all agreed.

As Naveen walked away, the door re-locked from the outside, Merida turned to Casey, looping an arm with hers. "So, what'd you do?"

Casey grinned mischievously. "I may have sent them on a wild goose chase with a nonsensical clue that leads nowhere. They should be busy for a while."

"Drinks?" Merida suggested with an approving nod.

"Absolutely!" Casey agreed. "You in, Liv?" 

Olivia looked back, feeling a little guilty for leaving the boys behind, but... not enough. "With you two? Always."

With that, the three friends walked down the hallway, leaving the boys to their friendly argument. They'd be back to rescue them sooner or later.

Part 4 of my medical school seties that focussed on residency.

My rewrite of book 2, chapter 20. In my world Ethan says I love you at the end of book 2. This also sets up the beginning of my book 3 rewrite entitled When Egos Collide.

So before book 3 was released I started what was going to be an AU but instead I ended up using some of the very under-utilised plot points of book 3 and it turned into more of a rewrite but really cemented what has been dubbed Tashland. I chose this part because Casey calls Landry out on his misogynistic bs and that is something I wish we could have done.
