Election season is coming up in the US and deadlines for voter registration are coming faster. Today's as good a day as any to register, so here's how.
If you're already 18 and are eligible to vote but aren't registered, check out this site to find where you can register!
If you're not yet 18, I have some good news: Depending on your state and age, you can pre-register or even register to vote before you turn 18! This usually means that as soon as you turn 18 you will automatically be able to vote, no paperwork necessary.
I have compiled below by state (and DC), laws and links to pre-register or register before you've turned 18. If you have more questions about your state, this article has lots of good information, as does this site! The information and links compiled here are accurate to the best of my ability as of August 5, 2022.
Quick other info:
The party you choose does not designate who you vote for in the end, only what mail you receive and which primaries you can vote in. It can also be changed later.
States with a star before their name allow 17 year olds who will be 18 by the time of the general election to vote in some primary elections.
Use your legal information and name when filling out voter applications. It is a felony not to.
If possible, choose to be notified by text or email voting information, and choose to have your ballot mailed to you for each election so you don't miss any votes!
