Okay, kinda wanna get off something from my chest. I'm glad that what I think isn't so controversial online. I really think that Naruto and Sasuke should have had ended up close together. In the final fight, they didn't hold hands, okay, at least their blood were touching each other. When it didn't end there I was hoping that Naruto and Sasuke would have traveled the world together. Figuring out themselves and their place in each other's life. But we didn't get that either. So now. I'm just :/
They should have had the chance to take their time with each other, get away from Konoha and figure each other out. That's where it should have ended.
I think ending Naruto like that would have been so momentous. It's not just about the ending, it's the meaning of it for Naruto fans. For me, I am bisexual, so seeing that there is a lot of homoeroticism subtext in the anime made me really happy. Because there was a semblance of representation, if you get what I mean. Even if "it's not in your face" gay, we know what it means anyways and had expected it to turn out that way in the end especially when the author himself hinted at their ending being together which GAVE US A LOT OF HOPE.
ESPECIALLY when throughout the series their bond is emphasized so much and every moment and development were supposed to bring them to each other.
I think Naruto and Sasuke being the endgame would have helped so many kids and teens figuring out their identity, feel represented and more accepted since the anime is very popular, especially when for some, it is their comfort anime (like yours truly, me, your local tobirama trashbin).
Anyways, it's just my take and my thoughts. I started watching Naruto when I was 7 and I am 20 now, and Naruto has helped me so much throughout my short life because there were so many characters that are relatable to. I know I had my struggles with my bisexuality and I think that for such an impactful anime, it definitely had the power to do so much if only homphobes didn't take over lmao anyways.
