Mason Klein logra su primera victoria en la Etapa 2 del Dakar 2023, la general se mantiene abierta

Lo que no se pudo lograr ayer se consiguió hoy. Parecía que la primera victoria de etapa de Mason Klein, el joven estadounidense de 21 años y mejor novato de 2022, era algo inevitable en este Dakar y si no se conseguía hoy iba a ser otro día. Fue al día siguiente de perder solo por un par de minutos en la Etapa 1 después de liderar todo el tramo. Hoy la situación fue inversa, porque Daniel Sanders dominó con bastante ventaja toda la especial pero el australiano decidió levantar en los últimos 40 kilómetros para no tener que abrir la especial mañana, algo que se suponía que la nueva reglamentación evitaría. De todas maneras, Klein jugó lo contrario y aceleró a fondo en los últimos 100 kilómetros en una etapa muy desafiante y ganó una merecida etapa. Y eso que recibió una penalización de 2 minutos al final del día.

En un clasificador bastante mezclado, con varios pilotos que largaron fuera del Top 15 terminando de los primeros, segundo fue Sebastian Buhler de Hero a 1:09 y tercero se ubicó Skyler Howes de Husqvarna a 1:58. Los pilotos responsables de abrir ruta, como Ricky Brabec, Kevin Benavides, Toby Price y Joan Barreda tuvieron actuaciones respetables en esta tarea, pero terminarían cediendo tiempo especialmente Brabec y Benavides.

Con los resultados, Mason Klein pasa a liderar la general seguido de Price a 1:41 y Barreda a 2:03. Kevin Benavides es cuarto, Daniel Sanders quinto a menos de 3 minutos. El líder de la general al inicio del día, Ricky Brabec cayó al sexto puesto.

Los pilotos chilenos Pablo Quintanilla y Nacho Cornejo tuvieron una etapa que fue de menos a más, terminando recortando tiempo después de haber estado cerca de 10 minutos por debajo de la referencia en momentos de los primeros 200 kilómetros.  Quintanilla terminó P11 a 4:23 y queda P8 a 5:16 de la punta. Cornejo fue P13 a 4:41 y queda todavía P15, pero a más largos 14:47 de Klein.

En Rally2, Pato Cabrera se ubica P32 y Tomás de Gavardo P35. John Medina se encontraba dentro de los últimos 40 km al cierre del artículo.

Mañana se viene otro día muy desafiante con 447 kilómetros contra el reloj entre Al-Ula y Ha’il...

And Konner...well, he didn't graduate that year, not even in absentia, thanks to his shit performance, and his impending trial, at which, he was to be tried as an adult. Triple Threat, and anyone else a part of this AU: What kind of chocolate/sweets do you like, if any? Also, would you be willing to share this treat with a special someone (wink wink)?

I figured I couldn’t draw all of this with the limited amount of images I could post on here, so I may as well just tell you this way.

Henry obviously has a sweet tooth, he’ll eat anything he gets his hands on. He does share it with Charles though.

Charles does like white and milk chocolates. He’d break a piece for Henry and others that he cares for.

Ellie I think would eat it whenever she gets the chance, but she probably prefers chocolate truffles.

Rupert, as well as others in the government, I feel are on the same page as Ellie, but with Rupert, if it’s a date night with Dave, he’d just get sweets for them to share. He doesn’t really have a specific favorite.

Dave likes sweets, mostly white chocolate. He’ll share a piece with Rupert.

Sven likes sweets, but he prefers sweets from his home country like princess cake. I don’t think he’d really share it with Burt since he isn’t really familiar with it, but definitely he’s share it to other Toppats.

Burt will only eat a few sweets, mainly just some chocolate truffles, caramel chocolate, and during the holidays, he’s always be up for hot chocolate bombs.

Reginald and RHM I feel…don’t really care about chocolate and sweets or just grew out of it. If they threw a party, with the very rare chance after Randy Radman nearly set them into bankruptcy as leader, they’d just serve stuff like pudding or other food.

Other Toppats; Carol, Earrings, Witch, Toby, Tin, Stickman, Icepick, Snowcap, all still have a soft spot for sweets in the clan, especially with their partners.

Wall Staff and CCC members aren’t allowed food during work, so their only chances of them getting any is when they’re off of work, which is even rarer.

Kevin Benavides gana el Dakar 2023 en espectacular definición

El piloto argentino Kevin Benavides consiguió su segundo Dakar al superar a Toby Price en una increíble definición en la costa del Golfo Pérsico. Benavides comenzó el día acelerando a fondo e igualando el tiempo general de Price en el Km. 33 después de la especial cuando ya se habían corrido 43 horas y 30 minutos de carrera en los 14 días. En los siguientes controles, Benavides extendió la ventaja llegando a casi dos minutos y pudo conservarla de cara al final para cerrar a 55 segundos de Price en la meta ganando el rally por un apretado margen de 43 segundos. Skyler Howes remató tercero en la clasificación general.

Con el triunfo de Benavides, el triunfo vuelve a KTM luego de tres años aunque el equipo satélite de GasGas había ganado en 2022. Kevin se une a Price y Sam Sunderland como los únicos múltiples campeones del Dakar en actividad, todos con dos triunfos. Además, se vuelve el primero en la era post - africana en ganar con dos fabricantes distintos con Honda en 2021 y KTM en 2023.

Una etapa con más barro y con una navegación más tipo Baja ha favorecido al manejo de Benavides, más acostumbrado a entrenar en estas condiciones en Argentina. De todas maneras, el trabajo que le ha permitido llevarse el rally comenzó en la primera semana y se fue consolidando con las etapas, siendo el piloto por lejos más consistente de la grilla. Demostración de esto es que gana el Dakar 2023 sin recibir bonificaciones, pero con la victoria en la última etapa.

Pablo Quintanilla termina cuarto en la clasificación general luego de ser tercero en el último día justamente detrás de los dos que peleaban la corona en Benavides y Price. Nacho Cornejo ha terminado octavo pese a una etapa final algo complicada. 

Pato Cabrera ha conseguido la P20 en Rally2 y la P37 general en su décimo Dakar consolidándose como Dakar Legend, Tomás de Gavardo fue P33 en Rally2 y P50 general en su primera participación. Giovanni Enrico lideró la primera parte de la etapa final para terminar quinto en la general de Quads.
