Livestream Gig with Arnold Pontoh Quartet 👁😎

I was called for a livestream gig at Tonehouse Studios with pianist and band leader Arnold Pontoh from Indonesia. In his quartet, there was bassists Nobu, saxophonist Bryan Rosario and myself on drums. This gig was one with little preparation, with only 1 short rehearsal an hour before the livestream. The songs included were some originals and some standards. Before the gig, I was sent the set list and charts a few days before, allowing me to prepare. However, being prepared was only half the battle done, as I had to adapt and improvise to the current moment. For instance, in one of his tunes during the rehearsal we were told to change the ending of it- something that I was used to when preparing for it, forcing me to flexible about it. Apart from the anxiousness of feeling unprepared, playing with a bassist that I am unfamiliar with also caused some worry in me. Not being comfortable and being around the unknown, causes me to feel insecure, and I had to trust myself and my intuition with all the practice I have had already done, and be in the moment.

To my surprise, the show turned out to be incredibly enjoyable. The spontaneity of the performance injected a sense of excitement and freshness that often gets lost in over-rehearsed routines. I found that the experience was not only fun but also deeply rewarding. The audience responded positively, and the feedback I received was encouraging, which made the whole experience feel even more affirming.

Reflecting on the show afterward, I realized that there was nothing to worry about. The lack of preparation didn’t hinder my performance as much as I had feared; rather, it highlighted the importance of trusting in my own abilities and being adaptable. The experience was a powerful reminder that sometimes, stepping into the unknown can lead to unexpectedly positive outcomes.

If I didn't already give a 10/10 to #tonehouse this place would be setting the bar (10/10) instructor - @andrew.mariani - he's great, constantly moving + motivating + making sure I didn't give up (crucial) (10/10), instructors actually explaining things giving you individual attention - this guy wins big time - 2 months of #classpass + years of working out w/o understanding how to hold a #kettlebell finally someone comes to correct me! He could have taken a nap the rest of the class and still I'd give him an award (10/10) showers - they've got a bunch - with glass doors low enough for towels! (9/10) blowdryers - #ceramic #babyliss + #sedubeauty curling irons + flat irons! (10/10), water - of course, for water bottle + fountain (9/10), location - #nomad - west of park! (9/10), atmosphere - everyone is super into it, even when they finished their reps and I had 8 box jumps + burpees left - everyone Cheered me on, instead of telling me to skip it so we can get cont the workout (which was my plan)! #fitfam (10/10), facilities - #chalkwall + 2 floors - main class in the center area with a side yoga room + downstairs an open giant cross-fit style gym - and it's packed with people working out on their own or with trainers #impressive (10/10) other comments - towels - #towelsforants (5/10), plastic sweaty clothing bags - NONE?!? We have so far completed the instrumental and vocal arrangements for the remaining 3 songs. The structure, melody and lyrics for 4th and 5th songs have also been completed. 

Jamming Studios and Scheduled Meet-Ups

We have all agreed to meet every Tuesday and Friday nights and book a studio space to finish the recording of Love For You, Home and Self Conflicted. I also did some research on the jamming studios open and available for room bookings.

Recording, Mixing & Mastering Pushed Back 

According to our timeline we should be done with the arrangements of Love For You, Home and Self Conflicted and prepared for recording sessions, however are still behind on the completion of the last song Self Conflicted and this has caused some delays to occur to the timeline. Due to this we have to push back and shorten the time we have for recording.
