The Apples In Stereo (and their E6 brethren) forever changed my relationship to music - they got me interested in making my own! Years later, I still can’t believe that Robert Schneider is now a friend and we’ve even been able to collaborate (check out his amazing Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine project) - The Apples made some of the best pop records ever, and Tone Soul Evolution is one of them! ❤️ A few years ago I did a bunch of iPad drawings of whatever record I was listening to each morning and am finally adding some prints of them to the shop. After obsessing with their 2007 magnum opus New Magnetic Wonder, the Apples in Stereo became something of a cult pop-rock darling to me. Clearly influencing the then-rising indie scene associated with bands like @vampireweekend , (and inspiring the endlessly creative @elijah._.wood to direct a couple of their music videos) Apples in Stereo had found a niche that would sit somewhere between Yo La Tengo and The Beatles. Recently I’ve been sinking back in to their ever-pleasant earlier works and found myself playing “Seems So” on repeat.
