Otaku, do u know what otaku means ?

Yep! that’s why I mostly go by Jen on all my platforms now instead of Otaku like I did before haha

I have some thoughts on this so I’m gonna put it in a read more

For those who don’t Wikipedia has a good page with the definition on it and the word can mostly be boiled down to “geek” or someone with a consuming or obsessive interest, though usually used in the context of liking anime/manga or games. You can also find it used in anime for other things, i.e. in Detective Conan, Ran calls Shinichi “推理オタク” (suiri-otaku, detective/mystery nerd)

For some context on why I chose this name, I started getting into anime in 4th grade and pretty much watched nothing but anime after that. I chose the name Long Ago first as a username for Toram Online, as otaku555 instead of 553. It really felt like a lot of my defining trait in early middle school was just my interest in anime since I didn’t know many other people who watched it at school.

I feel like especially with the term weeaboo starting to get popular at the time, I enjoyed the word “otaku” because it seemed to have less of the negative japanophile connotations? But I also definitely did not know enough about Japanese language or culture at the time to call myself an otaku I feel— it seems like there is a historically negative connotation for otaku in Japanese culture as well.

At this point it’s become pretty inseparable from my identity online as an artist, which I why I never changed it, though I would be lying if I said I had no regrets about the username. I’ve had an incredibly strong admiration for Japanese culture since childhood and it’s difficult upon reflection to tell where admiration turned into infatuation and into misrepresenting a culture that wasn’t mine. So nowadays I do try to be a lot more careful about that. Hence, I go by Jen now.

That said! I do think that if you enjoy a culture it never hurts to learn more about it from good sources. I.e. don’t learn your Japanese from anime alone: make sure you have a teacher who knows about the manners and the nuances of respect in the language. It’s easy to think from a young age that you know a lot about a culture just because you consume their media but the world exists outside of that media and spreading views of a culture based solely on a singular and limited experience can be harmful, not only to the people misrepresented but also to yourself if you ever end up interacting with people from the culture.

I don’t know if this conveys all my thoughts as well as I hoped, but that’s my two cents on my username and the connotations of the word otaku and its relatives.

i had a dream that i died and i panicked bc now i dont have time to do all the things i wanna do, i seek comfort from those around me but they dont care and i buried myself and had to grief myself and no one visits my grave because they didnt know it was there and then i woke up and realize i didnt use the blanket, fell asleep cut on myself and now they stings, also stomach pain came back and my period leak on my comfort items, for a split second i wished the dream was real. Weird lolz, make sure to use ur blankie or u get nightmares yall

Current progress of the Wednesday Vest I’m knitting

Almost 1/4 of the back panel (so technically 1/8 of the outfit) and coming to realisation after watching a very informational YouTube video that my wool I bought being superwashed treated means it will grow if I wash it.

And I should have did the swatch AND WASH AND BLOCKED IT (which I obviously didn’t cause I only swatched it) so that I would know to knit smaller

So I guess who’s never gonna wash any of the garments hahahaha (literally bought the super wash wool so I can wash them and now I can’t wash them because it will grow)

I tried to turn some cards from our card game into magic cards

#custom cards #I did try to make it as close as possible #but of course some things don't really translate #like in the actual card game the Conspiring Visionary is 300/200 while Ouran is 4000/4000 #but magic doesn't really allow for that kinds of differences #not reasonably at least #oop I just noticed a mistake at Captain Oberon #but whatever #too late to go back now #I also got rid of any text that mentions rarities #because they aren't supposed to matter like that outside of un-sets #but I did keep every card at the same rarity it is in our game #also the costs of the cards are interesting #because for some I could actually scale them as 100 credit = 1 mana #Conspiring Visionary costs 300 in the game #Red and Blue Reaper cost 500 respectively #Slaughter Pig costs 200 #meanwhile Oberon costs 800 and Dirk Bastion 900 #and Ouran 2800 #and again the p/t are just completely inconsistent #the keyword abilities also don't translate 1 to 1 #but they're close enough so whatever #wait #I just realized #I should've given the token from the Dead Reaper banding #I MADE A MISTAKE WITH RED REAPER TOO DAMNIT #It should let you put Blue Reaper onto the battlefield not Dead Reaper #Dead Reaper is from a whole different faction!#custom cards misc

My true magnum opus.#I was originally going to do this gag as a 'alternate version of comic 155'#Then I realized that they have the 'Come back to Gusu with me' conversation twice. So here we are!#I did consider having WWX say 'I'm not going back to gusu with you' in the comic for the better plot accuracy.#I'm invoking the rule of silly by having Wei Wuxian read between the lines of 'Come back to Gusu with me'.#Because it does feel like a confession! It is a confession of 'I care about your safety and I worry for what may happen.'#It is also poorly articulated. You can't really blame WWX for reading into it as 'LWJ is just another person trying to control me.'#The relationship between them is not good! It is two parties who genuinely want to be closer with each other but cannot communicate it.#You can't really have what makes these two work so well as a dynamic without the past history of:#“Back then I really wanted to be your friend.” They are a *missed connection*!#WWX reaches out and LWJ rejects him. And now when LWJ reaches out it is WWX who pushes them apart.#It is a tragedy about the consequences of being out of tandem and realizing what you want far too late.#The momentum of WWX's downfall is far to fast to reverse now. How the hell am I gonna survive till adulthood if I don't have a dream that's gonna motivate me in life. I barely care about the world outside my house, I don't want to step up into adulthood, I want to keep ignoring everything and drown myself in games and my own imaginary world. It's so selfish and even I know it, but personally? The world can burn itself to the ground and people can continue to pull each other down to hell, but I will continue to not do anything and not give a shit.

Yeah, I may support other people's dreams and their plans to fight for what they think is right, but to join them and give everything to their beliefs? Even if it we're the right thing, I wouldn't dare to help them. I don't want to get in trouble because that's too much of a hassle and that will force me out of my personal bubble, and I don't want that.

All I want to do in life is to watch this world fight till the end of times like I'm watching a movie, it's a selfish wish I know but I'm nothing but a child with no dreams in life. How can you expect me to dream for this world when I can't even make a dream for myself? Maybe, in the far future, something will inspire me and push me like how the others are motivated to continue living and helping this world thrive, but for now, I'd rather eat popcorn, watch our world try to survive, and probably play games while I'm at it.

Just thought about … oh my god. Bakugo’s first real battle with a formidable villain after your kid is born; he’s not exactly “out of shape” (he never quit the gym, routine, etc… just changed it), but he’s thrown down hard in the first couple seconds, and he’s slower to get back into position—taking the time to steady his feet and assess the terrain, pushing out the lil tummy he gained feeding you postpartum delicacies as he cracks his back—

And the villain, god help them, decides to call out to him as they use the few seconds of vulnerability to attack again, screaming, “hey pop pop, don’t tell me parenthood has made you soft! How ‘bout I start calling you ‘daddy,’ too?”

Just as Bakugo’s turning back around with a new fire in his eyes, blood all warmed up, and shooting off to grab them by the throat to end the fight in one single move.

#Bakugo #the whole of Japan has been waiting on Bakugo’s return since he took paternity leave #so this is a big fight for him —- not just in terms of it being a test of his own strength but also because the medias hanging off his back #waiting to put out articles about whether he’s gotten stronger or weaker #they already put out tons about his ‘dad bod’ and the fact he hasn’t been focusing as hard on agility at the gym #hahaha turns out making sure his baby is strong and that you recover has taught him a lot of things #(aside from that you’ve been liking his thicker stature as of late too… aka: phat confidence booster)#and it’s that he can also be an absolute powerhouse at defensive maneuvers alongside attacking #aka: Bakugo gets back from his paternity leave with an all new fighting style 10x more sturdy than two years ago #being a dad has also made his confidence go up about 5000% so he’s become a bit more nonchalant in fights #hence why he’s not afraid to warm himself up before going in for the kill #LMAOOOO I need to let myself be corny #time to wash my hair now tho and check on my v #womiting kitty #gen #kids tw #caitie post

the movie did such a good job at putting me in isabel/owens shoes honestly because i was looking at tara/maddys monologue scene through a lens of just not letting go of nostalgia so i was like 'oh my god do not get in that hole in the ground. this is crazy' but then two minutes later with hindsight i Understood and was like 'NO YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN THE HOLE IN THE GROUND GO BACK'
