The knowledge and experience expert pool builders in Sydney have in the field is one of the main advantages of working with them. They are well knowledgeable about the materials, building methods, and design concepts used in pools. Because of their knowledge, they can help you every step of the way, from design to completion, making sure your pool is constructed to the highest standards.
The concrete pool builder is well known for its longevity. A well-built concrete pool may endure for decades with the right care, unlike polyester or vinyl pools, which can be prone to deterioration and need frequent liners replaced. In the long term, its lifespan makes it an economical investment. Although Melbourne's weather may be rather unpredictable, a concrete pool is resilient enough to survive harsh weather, from sweltering summers to chilly winters.

In addition, they will be licensed and insured. This will give you peace of mind and ensure that you’re getting the best value for your money.
A home is a big investment and should be treated with care. If you’re not happy with the current layout of your house, hiring a renovation builder will help you transform your home into a space that better suits your lifestyle. They can take on any size of project, from small kitchen and bathroom upgrades to extending and adding rooms. Best of all, they can make the process stress-free by taking care of all the details, from permits to sourcing materials and more.
The most popular home renovations are bathroom and kitchen upgrades. These renovations can increase the resale value of your property and improve the functionality of your home. They can also improve your family’s overall health and well-being by reducing the amount of time you spend on meal preparation and cleaning.
However, before you hire a renovation company, you should consider the following tips:
First and foremost, find out how long they’ve been in business. This will help you determine their level of expertise and the quality of their work. You should also check out their website for reviews and photos of their previous projects.
If you’re not satisfied with the results of a renovation company, you can always request for a refund. Lastly, make sure that you have a contract with the renovation company and that it includes a detailed quote for the work to be done. This will help prevent any misunderstandings and inflated costs down the line.

Tumblr media
Whether you are building a home from scratch or need to renovate your existing home, it is important to choose the right Home renovation Northern beaches service for your needs. The best services offer professional, experienced renovation contractors, and offer competitive pricing.
Home renovation Sydney
Considering the high cost of real estate in Sydney's fabled Northern and Lower beaches, a top notch home renovation is a no brainer for savvy property owners. Fortunately, there are a ton of companies out there vying for your business, from budget to budge. One such company is Domus Homes. While Domus might not be the cheapest house builder around, they do have the knack for building a quality abode. Their attention to detail has resulted in a number of satisfied clients. Home renovation services
Using an efficient home renovation service is a great way to add value to your property. In addition, it will add space for your growing family. A home renovation can also be cheaper than a complete home makeover.
The most important part of any home renovation project is the right tradesman. A good builder will have the expertise to handle your project from start to finish. In addition, they will offer you a written estimate. You may also need to obtain a loan to pay for the project. Using a good builder will ensure that you get the best value for your money.
For a home renovation to be considered a success, you need to plan ahead. This will allow you to make adjustments to your goals as you go along. This is especially true if you are renovating a large property. If you need to get a loan, make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you make the loan application.
Home renovation builders
Getting renovations done on your home in the Northern Beaches is a great way to add value to your property. It can also give you the feel of a brand new home. However, it can be a bit of a hassle. It's also important to know what you are getting into. Depending on the extent of your renovations, you will need to get approval from the government.
Fortunately, you can get an obligation-free quote from a Northern Beaches Builder. They can also give you advice about your building options. You can use their expertise to create an ideal home that suits your family and lifestyle.
The Northern Beaches Council is also working to preserve its unique natural environment. In fact, many of its residents are passionate about protecting the area. They also buy locally-sourced goods, which helps support local farmers. They're also keen to preserve the area's heritage architecture, which includes ancient Aboriginal sites and significant colonial architecture dating back to the 1800s.

2018 McGingerbread Hell Competition Winners
Happy New Year, Folks! I’m pleased to announce the winners of this (past) year’s McGingerbread Hell Gingerbread House Competition!!
First off, I cannot find the words to say how much joy each and every entry to this competition has brought me. Every single one of the participants put their 100% best McMansion Hell face on and the results were charming, hilarious, and, if we’re being punny here, downright sweet. This may be the best idea this blogger has ever had.
Second, let me say that the when I say the competition was fierce, I mean, it was fierce. So much so that I drafted the fellow judgement of two of my favorite colleagues, my literary agent Caroline Eisenmann, and fellow architecture critic/Editor of Chicago Architect Magazine Anjulie Rao to help me narrow the 43 contestants down to 8.
Just a note: Last names of the winners have been abbreviated for privacy reasons. If you would like your full name to be published instead, please email [email protected] with your preferred name.
We’re going to start our line up with the 5 honorable mentions in alphabetical order, after which there will be a break to take those of you scrolling through this on the dashboard to the full article where the top 3 McMansions will be revealed.
Without further ado...
Honorable Mention #5 : Manoir de emporte-pièce by Anya D.
Tumblr media
The judges were impressed by the whimsy, creativity and finely detailed execution of Anya’s house. Caroline summed it up best: “what else is a McMansion if not a bunch of smaller houses wrapped into one package?”
Anya writes:
Hi I'm Anya and I'm 12. I made my Gingerbread house from Gingerbread I mixed and baked myself. The house shapes came from a cookie cutter. It's held together with royal icing frosting I made. The shingles are almonds and the house off to the side is the dog house and has candy dog bones on it. The "lights" on parts of it are candy balls. I hope you like it!
Honorable Mention #4: AMAZING Custom Home with Quality Features by Sydney E.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The judges were impressed by the house’s fine craftsmanship, attention to detail (especially the peppermint columns, the gumdrop crenellations, and the chandelier in the back) and great sense of humor. Anjulie remarked: “Love the inclusion of the nuclear family.” What really had us in stitches was Sydney’s wonderfully rich description, especially this part:
“...You'll know you're living in the lap of luxury when you see the ENORMOUS GOLD CHANDELIER in the dining room. But it's the ROOFTOP PATIO with no discernible purpose or point of entry that will really set you apart from your neighbors. "Hey, how did you get up there?" they'll ask, but you're not telling (mysterious!). The landscaping will make you feel like you're in the countryside, in a sea of royal icing TURF GRASS (shown here, lightly dusted with coconut snow). The FOUR TREES on the property are either too far from the house to provide any shade (stately!) or extremely close to the house and actively obscuring at least one window (posh!). The entire house, the front walk, and the driveway are all bordered in royal icing ENGLISH IVY, which is definitely never going to be a problem for native plants (colonial!).”
Honorable Mention #3: Suburban Hobbit House by Jennifer K. & Cara M.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The judges were impressed by the difficulty of execution in Jennifer and Cara’s house, especially the dome, the cleverness of using almonds as cladding, and the hilariously barren “asphalt” lawn complete with soul patch. Kate remarked: “Pretty sure I saw this exact house in Bergen County, New Jersey.”
Jennifer and Cara wrote about their house:
Made of solid gingerbread in shape of skulls (had the pans), graham crackers, lots of icing, nuts, chocolate, a candy cane, grape tic-tacs, decorator sprinkles, butter-rum Lifesavers, fondant, Tootsie Rolls, and a loaf of rosemary bread. Round center mass house with back porch nub, two wings, a charming turret. We totally meant for it to look this way.
Honorable Mention #2: European Charme by Núria O.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The judges were very impressed with the fine detailing (such as the columns, balustrades, and front door), the crisp, clean execution of the design, and total commitment to the McMansion Aesthetic™ from front to rear, including the completely barren lawn.
Núria describes the house in finely practice Realtor-ese:
Beautiful gazillion-square-feet chalet featuring lots of personality and European flair. This cozy 4-bedroom, 10-bathroom cottage is made of sturdy construction-grade tan-beige gingerbread from top to bottom. Roof plates are structurally tinted, not painted, ensuring a durable color that will last until the last crumble is eaten. Windows glazing is made of gelatine sheets coated with black-coloured blueberry jam to ensure privacy as you lounge by the bay window or enjoy the views from the beautiful faux-balcony.
All doors are solid gum paste, with royal icing on all window frames as well as the balustrade. This home is ideal for entertaining, with its luxurious two-story entrance featuring genuine Spanish _neula_ columns with doric capitals, ornated pediment and a quaint half-tindered wall that gives true European _charme_. Utilities are housed in a lovely turret next to the service door. The garage accomodates two SUVs or six European sedan cars. The magnificent brown-sugar-paved front yard features icing plants and a signature landscaped crushed-sprinkle turf patch on cookie soil. The same type of grass was used in the large, sunny backyard which also has a patio area.
Honorable Mention #1: Existential Crisis on 34th Street by Caitlin R.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The judges were very impressed by the house’s clever use of different baking materials and attention to detailing, especially in the icing work. Kate was especially excited by the rounded gingerbread turret, and Anjulie loved the “Existential Crisis” detail and monumental marshmallow columns. The description had Caroline especially in stitches.
Caitlin describes the house:
This nine-bedroom mansion is made from the most exquisite of gingerbreads. Lovingly handmade from scratch, and crafted by local artisans, it's ready for your own sweet family. Grecian inspired columns impose your might on the neighborhood, while a pebble-clad tower with bay windows adds a touch of country charm. Architectural details include a 'stonework' wall and chimney, sweet dormer windows, and a luxurious back porch. A myriad of windows let light into this expanded historic house - the original building dates all the way back to 1982! Come by today, and soon you'll be calling this three-and-a-half story, Greco-Chateauesque Italian Revival Americana, 18,600 square foot mansion - home!
Now on to the TOP 3 PRIZEWINNING HOUSES!
It all comes down to this. It was stiff competition through and through, and the judges deliberated long and hard about who the top 3 spots should go to. Each house showed tremendous ability in craftsmanship, detailing, and McMansion Engineering. Without further ado:
Third Prize: Saccharin Sanctuary by Christa H.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The judges were wowed by the amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail present in Christa’s house. Caroline was impressed by the use of Cinnamon Toast Crunch as shingling, Anjulie loved the jellybean stone accents, and Kate found the use of sticks of gum as fake-stucco siding to be very clever. The execution of the lawyer foyer, turret, and appropriately nonsensical rear exterior put this house in to the third place slot.
Christa’s description, in perfect Realtorese:
This fabulous 1.5 story house features a gorgeous columned entry, double garage, show-stopping turret, and the picture perfect back patio. Built from the finest gingerbread and white chocolate... you can be sure that this house has a superior foundation that you can trust for years to come. Jelly Beans, spear mint Lifesavers, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Double Mint gum among other award winning materials make this house’s curb appeal unforgettable! List Price: 🍬574,900  Est Mortgage: 🍬2,240/mo Listed By: Sugar & Space Reality®️
Second Prize: The Hundred Thousand by Louisa G.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The judges were blown away by, as they say, the sheer size of this lad. The monumentality of such a massive roof must have taken some serious gingerbread engineering, all while perfectly encapsulating McMansion Roof Culture. The engineering, clean execution, attention to detail (millions of nonpareils!!), and true, well, McMansion-ness of this house vaulted (ceiling) it into 2nd place.
Louisa describes the house thusly:
The Hundred Thousand has no equal. This 37-piece towering gingerbread edifice was baked and constructed over four days during the heat of an Australian summer, by an Australian and a Finn, using a Finnish gingerbread recipe. Inspired by Mt. Nub, The Hundred Thousand boasts a porcine screaming porch, eight ahoy-mateys windows, a royally-iced gable front that almost but not entirely obscures the front door, and palatial grounds landscaped with topiary sweets, all topped off with a soaring roof tiled with hundreds & thousands.
So many hundreds & thousands were used that the builders ran out of material - causing the construction project to grind to a halt for almost ten minutes, until the Australian’s father arrived with more much-needed building supplies. The Hundred Thousand was fixed together using high-quality caramel, and is internally braced by two large gingerbread cross-panels. This fantastic abode required nearly 2kg of flour and eight eggs (provided by the Australian’s chickens) and was constructed as large as the oven would allow, measuring a whopping 40 cm across on the front facade, and nearly 30 cm high.
And finally, (DRUMROLL PLEASE)
First Prize: Casa de McGingerHell by Beth and Tina C.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the moat, dome skylight, and lawyer foyer, to the rice crispy treat retaining wall, and chocolate rocks, this house, in the words of Caroline, was “truly next level.” The judges were blown away by the incredible attention to detail and clever use of different materials, specially the pretzel railing on the bridge, the marshmallow penguins, and we all freaked over those sugar glass and water elements. From the several different types of windows, bizarre massing, and three car garage, this house encapsulates the deranged opulence of McMansions in the sweetest way possible.
Beth and Tina describe their house:
Located centrally and literally dominating the entire living room, this McGingerMansion features over twenty handcrafted stained glass windows, a double sized garage, and three hand laid rock face walls! This gingermansion also has not one, but two incredible water features including a delightful frozen waterfall in the spacious backyard. Boasting several pre-decorated pine trees surrounding the property, this festive gingermansion showcases several dozen strands of lights and as well as a handful of charming wreaths.
The one hundred percent genuine pretzel log deck overlooking the backyard is the perfect place to entertain friends and family alike, especially during the holiday season! Standing at just over a foot and a half tall, this truly massive gingermansion has a total composition of just over twenty pans worth of gingerbread. Call now to schedule a tour today; this gingermansion won't last long! *Disclaimer: As required of us by law, we must disclose the presence of a minor pest infestation in the form of roughly a dozen cute, but possibly rabid penguins on the property.
On behalf of the judges and McMansion Hell, we would like to thank everyone who entered the competition for their amazingly wonderful houses, and for the funding from McMansion Hell’s Patreon supporters whose generosity made running the competition and supplying the prizes possible.

Write high-quality, keyword-rich descriptions about your business and products/services.
Make sure you pick the right categories. That’s because Google identifies your business from the category and information you provide in GMB.
Upload high-resolution photos of interior, exterior, and products.
Don’t forget to add logo as well. Encourage your customers to upload photos of your products or services.
Google reviews are unavoidable. Ask your customers for reviews frequently. Higher number of reviews increases trust and local pack rankings.
Update your profile regularly with offers, updates, photos, and events.
Fill up the Q&A section with frequently asked questions in your industry. It will help you find more frequently than competitors.
Keep your profile updated with new activities in your business.
Local citations and Directories
Local citations are listing of your business’ name, address, and phone number on local websites. It is also known as NAP. Local citations and directories help users find your business and influence search engine ranking.

Search engine algorithms are designed to understand topic from webpage’s elements and it tries to match search query’s intent with the best web page available on the internet.
Assume that a user is searching for “best home renovation builder in Sydney”. The search engine’s crawler fetches out the query’s most relevant answer. Search engine requires signals to answer best home renovation builder in Sydney is so and so company. That’s where on-page and technical optimisation comes in place.
We need to optimise on-page elements in the copywriting and the back end. Applying a strategic approach in on-page optimisation, helps drive more conversions. Hence, it is an important segment in SEO.
On-page optimisation deals with user experience, while Google understands your website from technical aspects. Hence, website is difficult to find for both users and search engine crawlers without on-page and technical optimisation.
Link building from local sites
Backlinks from local websites are a bit different from backlinks. They are earned and obtained from local sites such as blogs, news websites, and social sharing. Therefore, it is more impactful for local SEO than standard backlinks.
Local links also include links from niche websites which is considered high-quality backlinks. Building and earning such links is harder. White-hat SEO is a website optimisation strategy that can bring local backlinks.

3 Building Design Trends That 2022 Has In Store.
2020 caught the world unawares and one thing that all architects and home builders agree on is that our life post lock-down will not be the same as it was before.
And why should it? The quintessential part of human existence boils down to our ability to adapt and make a ‘new normal’ every time something disrupts our way of life. In architecture, these recent changes will change what we consider important home building. There will be more emphasis on picking the right materials, cohesive living space designs, and how we can be more fulfilled with home living.
At XclusivBuilt Projects – Professional Home Builders Sydney, we are always ahead of the pack when it comes to home design and home building.Innovation and adaptability run in our blood and we’re always ready to share this with all our clients. If you are looking to start construction in 2022, give us a ring and we will help you achieve your home building goals.
Below are our top 3 projections for the 2022 home building.
1. Upgraded small home design and adaptive large home layouts
With housing prices going up, affordable living takes center stage in 2022 home design. Creative solutions to making the most of small spaces will take center stage and even in large home builds, adaptive layouts will be chosen. Integrating kitchens with living areas, for example, will be increasingly important as people spend more time in their homes and want a more relaxed environment.
2. The rise of bio-design
Bio design is when biological systems get integrated into home design. This is done by incorporating living organisms into a home’s design for aesthetics, as building blogs, energy generators, and air purifiers. In the wake of the green revolution, this is a great way to build sustainably. At XB Projects we use cutting-edge technology systems to build Eco-friendly housing, if that sounds like something that you would be interested in for your new home, give us a ring.
3. Back to nature home building designs
Nature as a muse for the home building has been around for a while now, but in 2020 this will become more mainstream. There is no rival to a grounded type of home living and architectural designs will celebrate nature more. A biophilic living will be very prevalent in home architecture discussions. Things that are natural, authentic, and real to support well-being at home will be more important.

Top Reasons to Renovate Your House before Selling
People renovate the home for two primary reasons. Firstly, every house needs to undergo renovation once in 10-15 years. Small renovation efforts will keep the house beautiful for a long time. Secondly, people seek home renovation services to enjoy a better living experience. You need more comfort in living, and thus you have to make a few changes to the house.
Apart from these reasons, people also search for renovation builders Sydney before selling their properties. Why should you invest in a property you want to sell to someone? Is not it a waste of money? The answer is no. Renovating the property before selling can increase the market value of the property. Find the reasons in detail in the following section.
1. Increase the Property Value
Property sellers should consider renovation an investment rather than viewing it an expenditure. For renovating the house, you need to discover the potential flaws of the property. Think from the perspective of a buyer. Will you buy a property with multiple cracks on the walls? You need to find the cracks on walls and roofs.
Find the professional home builders in Sydney to renovate damaged walls and roofs to beautiful your house. After the renovation, you will find buyers for your property easily. Through renovation, you can add more facilities to the house, eventually increasing the property value.
2. Find a Buyer Quickly
Many property owners struggle to find buyers for their properties. After visiting the property, most buyers do not want to purchase the property. Such things happen when the property is in poor condition. Home renovation helps you to find a buyer quickly.
Renovating the property will make it attractive to potential buyers. Therefore, you have to put minimal effort into selling the property. Find professional renovation builders in Sydney to improve the visual appeal of your property through renovations.
3. Get a Better Deal
None wants to pay a high amount for the property that exists in a shabby condition. After purchasing the property, the buyer has to invest money in its renovation. Therefore, finding a good deal for such properties is difficult.
Property renovation under the supervision of professional home builders in Sydney will help you find a better deal for your property. You can always negotiate for a better price from the buyer when the property is in a top-notch condition.
So, these are some benefits of considering home renovation for the property. A professional home renovation service will help you obtain home renovation at an affordable cost.

Joseph Tilli Perth AFR | This Year Will Be The Year of Best Real Estate Consultant Perth
The property sector is an ever-changing landscape, with new regulations and legislation constantly being introduced. Property developers need to keep up with these changes to stay competitive. Property developers are not the only ones affected by these regulations - buyers are also affected. That is because they typically end up paying more for their property due to increased compliance costs incurred by the developer.
Tumblr media
The average property developer has 15 years of experience. Property developers like Peter Tilli and Joseph Tilli are experienced in how to find the best deals, identify profitable places to buy land, and apply their knowledge of the market to get the most out of each investment. They are the ones who conceptualize, design, and build projects that have different uses. They are responsible for deciding how the features of a building need to allocate. They also decide on the types of materials required.
A property developer's work is not only restricted to the construction of buildings. They also need to figure out what type of income or output they require for this project before initiating it. After that, they need to do their best in generating revenues from this investment so that they get back their initial capital and then some, with some profit left over for future projects. The more you learn about this business, the more you realize that it is not an easy job.
Property developers who have experience building and managing property portfolios can make a lot of money. This is because they know the ins and outs of the industry and how to do things right, which is always in demand. That is something Peter Tilli and Joseph Tilli are known for, and that is what makes them reliable developers.
They are experts in managing properties. They use a range of skills to maximize revenue for their clients. They take care of everything from the leasing process to maintenance, repairs, and security issues. One of the best-known skills of this duo is that they have an understanding of the property sector, how it works, its economic cycles and trends, as well as understanding how to manage different types of properties.
It is no overselling to say that property developers need to have expert knowledge about property development and the property market. They also need to be able to identify trends in the market and decide where they should be investing their resources. The developer needs a broad range of experiences and knowledge of different property markets and sectors. If you are looking for a trustworthy property developer, you need to look for these things.
Properties require an understanding of finance, bank lending, financial management, commercial law (especially for investment properties), compliance with building laws, taxation (for both commercial and investment properties), project management skills, etc. Experienced property developers like these two are real estate professionals who have an in-depth understanding of the real estate industry. They specialize in commercial, residential, and mixed-use property development.
It is a known thing that both of them work closely with architects, designers, engineers to bring their visions to life. They are responsible for everything from conceptualizing the project(s) to final construction and eventual sale or lease. It is no overselling to say that these two are some of the best project managers in Perth, and if you need someone experienced and reliable to do the job for you, you can count on these two.

The Googleplex of the Future Has Privacy Robots, Meeting Tents and Your Very Own Balloon Wall MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google’s first office was a cluttered Silicon Valley garage crammed with desks resting on sawhorses. In 2003, five years after its founding, the company moved into a sprawling campus called the Googleplex. The airy, open offices and whimsical common spaces set a standard for what an innovative workplace was supposed to look like. Over the years, the amenities piled up. The food was free, and so were buses to and from work: Getting to the office, and staying there all day, was easy. Now, the company that once redefined how an employer treats its workers is trying to redefine the office itself. Google is creating a post-pandemic workplace that will accommodate employees who got used to working from home over the past year and don’t want to be in the office all the time anymore. The company will encourage — but not mandate — that employees be vaccinated when they start returning to the office, probably in September. At first, the interior of Google’s buildings may not appear all that different. But over the next year or so, Google will try out new office designs in millions of square feet of space, or about 10 percent of its global work spaces. The plans build on work that began before the coronavirus crisis sent Google’s work force home, when the company asked a diverse group of consultants — including sociologists who study “Generation Z” and how junior high students socialize and learn — to imagine what future workers would want. The answer seems to be Ikea meets Lego. Instead of rows of desks next to cookie-cutter meeting rooms, Google is designing “Team Pods.” Each pod is a blank canvas: Chairs, desks, whiteboards and storage units on casters can be wheeled into various arrangements, and in some cases rearranged in a matter of hours. To deal with an expected blend of remote and office workers, the company is also creating a new meeting room called Campfire, where in-person attendees sit in a circle interspersed with impossible-to-ignore, large vertical displays. The displays show the faces of people dialing in by videoconference so virtual participants are on the same footing as those physically present. In a handful of locations around the world, Google is building outdoor work areas to respond to concerns that coronavirus easily spreads in traditional offices. At its Silicon Valley headquarters, where the weather is pleasant most of the year, it has converted a parking lot and lawn area into “Camp Charleston” — a fenced-in mix of grass and wooden deck flooring about the size of four tennis courts with Wi-Fi throughout. There are clusters of tables and chairs under open-air tents. In larger teepees, there are meetings areas with the décor of a California nature retreat and state-of-the-art videoconferencing equipment. Each tent has a camp-themed name such as “kindling,” “s’mores” and “canoe.” Camp Charleston has been open since March for teams who wanted to get together. Google said it was building outdoor work spaces in London, Los Angeles, Munich, New York and Sydney, Australia, and possibly more locations. Employees can return to their permanent desks on a rotation schedule that assigns people to come into the office on a specific day to ensure that no one is there on the same day as their immediate desk neighbors. Despite the company’s freewheeling corporate culture, coming into the office regularly had been one of Google’s few enduring rules. That was a big reason Google offered its lavish perks, said Allison Arieff, an architectural and design writer who has studied corporate campuses. “They get to keep everyone on campus for as long as possible and they’re keeping someone at work,” said Ms. Arieff, who was a contributing writer for the Opinion section of The New York Times. But as Google’s work force topped 100,000 employees all over the world, face-to-face collaboration was often impossible. Employees found it harder to focus with so many distractions inside Google’s open offices. The company had outgrown its longtime setup. In 2018, Google’s real estate group began to consider what it could do differently. It turned to the company’s research and development team for “built environments.” It was an eclectic group of architects, industrial and interior designers, structural engineers, builders and tech specialists led by Michelle Kaufmann, who worked with the renowned architect Frank Gehry before joining Google a decade ago. Google focused on three trends: Work happens anywhere and not just in the office; what employees need from a workplace is changing constantly; and workplaces need to be more than desks, meeting rooms and amenities. “The future of work that we thought was 10 years out,” Ms. Kaufmann said, “Covid brought us to that future now.” Two of the most rigid elements in an office design are walls and the heating and cooling systems. Google is trying to change that. It is developing an array of different movable walls that can be packed up and shipped flat to offices around the world. It has a prototype of a fabric-based overhead air duct system that attaches with zippers and can be moved over a weekend for different seating arrangements. Google is also trying to end the fight over the office temperature. This system allows every seat to have its own air diffuser to control the direction or amount of air blowing on them. If a meeting requires privacy, a robot that looks like the innards of a computer on wheels and is equipped with sensors to detect its surroundings comes over to inflate a translucent, cellophane balloon wall to keep prying eyes away. “A key part of our thinking is moving from what’s been our traditional office,” said Ms. Kaufmann. Google is also trying to reduce distractions. It has designed different leaf-shaped partitions called “petals” that can attach to the edge of a desk to eliminate glare. An office chair with directional speakers in the headrest plays white noise to muffle nearby audio. For people who may no longer require a permanent desk, Google also built a prototype desk that adjusts to an employee’s personal preferences with a swipe of a work badge — a handy feature for workers who don’t have assigned desks because they only drop into the office once in a while. It calibrates the height and tilt of the monitor, brings up family photos on a display, and even adjusts the nearby temperature. In the early days of the pandemic, “it seemed daunting to move a 100,000-plus person organization to virtual, but now it seems even more daunting to figure out how to bring them back safely,” said David Radcliffe, Google’s vice president for real estate and workplace services. In its current office configurations, Google said it would be able to use only one out of every three desks in order to keep people six feet apart. Mr. Radcliffe said six feet would remain an important threshold in case of the next pandemic or even the annual flu. Psychologically, he said, employees will not want to sit in a long row of desks, and also Google may need to “de-densify” offices with white space such as furniture or plants. The company is essentially unwinding years of open-office plan theory popularized by Silicon Valley — that cramming more workers into smaller spaces and taking away their privacy leads to better collaboration. Real estate costs for the company aren’t expected to change very much. Though there will be fewer employees in the office, they’ll need more room. There will be other changes. The company cafeterias, famous for their free, catered food, will move from buffet style to boxed, grab-and-go meals. Snacks will be packed individually and not scooped up from large bins. Massage rooms and fitness centers will be closed. Shuttle buses will be suspended. Smaller conference rooms will be turned into private work spaces that can be reserved. The offices will use only fresh air through vents controlled by its building management software, doing away with its usual mix of outside and recirculated air. In larger bathrooms, Google will reduce the number of available sinks, toilets and urinals and install more sensor-based equipment that doesn’t require touching a surface with hands. A pair of new buildings on Google’s campus, now under construction in Mountain View, Calif., and expected to be finished as early as next year, will give the company more flexibility to incorporate some of the now-experimental office plans. Google is trying to get a handle on how employees will react to so-called hybrid work. In July, the company asked workers how many days a week they would need to come to the office to be effective. The answers were divided evenly in a range of zero to five days a week, said Mr. Radcliffe. The majority of Google employees are in no hurry to return. In its annual survey of employees called Googlegeist, about 70 percent of roughly 110,000 employees surveyed said they had a “favorable” view about working from home compared with roughly 15 percent who had an “unfavorable” opinion. Another 15 percent had a “neutral” perspective, according to results viewed by The New York Times. The survey was sent out in February and the results were announced in late March. Many Google employees have gotten used to life without time-consuming commutes, and with more time for family and life outside of the office. The company appears to be realizing its employees may not be so willing to go back to the old life. “Work-life balance is not eating three meals at a day at your office, going to the gym there, having all your errands done there,” said Ms. Arieff. “Ultimately, people want flexibility and autonomy and the more that Google takes that away, the harder it is going to be.” Google has offices in 170 cities and 60 countries around the world, and some of them have already reopened. In Australia, New Zealand, China, Taiwan and Vietnam, Google’s offices have reopened with occupancy allowed to exceed 70 percent. But the bulk of the 140,000 employees who work for Google and its parent company, Alphabet, are based in the United States, with roughly half of them in the Bay Area. Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Alphabet, said at a Reuters conference in December that the company was committed to making hybrid work possible, because there was an opportunity for “tremendous improvement” in productivity and the ability to pull in more people to the work force. “No company at our scale has ever created a fully hybrid work force model,” Mr. Pichai wrote in an email a few weeks later announcing the flexible workweek. “It will be interesting to try.” Source link Orbem News #balloon #Future #Googleplex #Meeting #Privacy #Robots #Tents #Wall

The Rogues Rant #262
Welcome to The Rogues Rant, an occasional look at all things Rugby.
Well season 2021 is here. Round 1 of the IDRU Builders Club Premiership kicks off this Saturday with five match ups in 1st and 2nd Grade. As well as the Competition Points being up for grabs this week, two of the three IDRU Perpetual Shields will be up for challenge. In the top grade, The John Haines Shield, held from last year by Shamrocks will be on the side line at Ocean Park where Shamrocks host Kiama. The holder of the John Haines Shield is required to defend the Trophy on their home ground. Vikings won the Talk2MeBro Shield last year finishing on the top of the Table in 2nd Grade and are now required to defend the Trophy in their away game against Campbelltown on Saturday at Campbelltown Showground. Avondale took out the Peter Woods Shield in last years abridged 1st Grade Comp and will be required to put the trophy up against Vikings in Round 2 at Vikings home ground. I’ll keep you up to date each week on how the fight for the Shields is progressing.
The issue of Concussion in the football codes is certainly getting plenty of attention. I reckon Rugby is on the right track with the hard line stand being taken with tackles that make direct contact with a players head. The Players and Team Officials need to get the message! The medicos are being heard loud and clear about the effects of multiple concussions on players from heavy body contact sports and it is hard to ignore the stats in this regard. The days of a player playing on after being knocked out being considered as a badge of honor is profoundly out of place given what information is now available. All involved in our sport and other heavy contact sports must take steps to reduce and eliminate the game situations that lead to these sorts of injuries occurring. That means all must be done to eliminate high tackles and the chance of head contact by making changes to the Laws of Games to protect all that aspire to play the game.
It was good to see the majority of clubs turn out at last Sunday’s Season Launch with their junior players to receive their signed NSW or Wallaby Jumpers to use for some Grass Roots Fundraising. Most of the kids were trying to get a look at the Draw in order to avoid the Waratahs Jumpers which was appreciated by most of those present.  IDRU President, Darin Crofts was confident that we would be able to get through season 2021 uninterrupted to hopefully get Clubs back to full strength. The Third Grade Comp will follow the Main Draw with all clubs encouraged to continue to recruit players as the year progresses with the hope that extra 3rd Grade matches can be scheduled as the season goes on. The Board is also still working on the possibility of running a shortened competition for Women and some form of Under 20/Under 85Kg structure later in 2021. Replacements in 1st Grade this year will revert to be as per the International Laws with rolling subs being the go in 2nd and 3rd Grade.
Super Rugby should be pretty predictable this week, well in Australia anyway. It was another entertaining match last week in Canberra with the Reds just pipping the Brumbies to keep in touch with them at the top of the Table. James O’Connor was brilliant again for the Reds showing great composure to keep his side in the game. A last minute try by Jordan Pataia, converted by O’Connor, put them in front for the first time in the match. A win this week for the Reds over the Force will put them on the top of the Table with all sides having played four matches. My tips for this week after four from four last week: Rebels, Reds, Hurricanes and Crusaders.
A full round of matches this week in Round 1 of IDRU Competition. After some good early season form shown by several clubs so far this year it looks like we might be in for a close race in 2021. Things get underway early on Saturday at Saunders Oval where Tech Waratahs host neighbors University with an early start of 12.00 Noon. Tech finished last years shortened season very strongly and have shown good early signs over the last few weeks. If their match fitness is up to it they can cause an early season upset here. Tech Waratahs to Win. Campbelltown and Vikings meet at Campbelltown with both clubs losing several key players from last year to Sydney Clubs. This will be an interesting match to get a gauge on how both clubs will fare this year. I’ll go for a Quinnies win at home. Campbelltown to Win. Shamrocks and Kiama meet at Ocean Park, Woonona and after a strong hit out last week against Waverly in which they put over 40 points on the Sydney club the Rocks will start favorite to win. Kiama are once again a bit of an unknown quantity so this will be an interesting outing for both sides. I’ll go with the home side again. Shamrocks to Win. Shoalhaven have been the form club so far this year with strong performances at the Macarthur 10’s and the Kiama 7’s. They also have recruited very well with the return of Will Miller to the club and the addition of a few other interesting recruits from out of town. Camden will be happy to get their longest away trip out of the way early but I think they will struggle to get the win here. Shoalhaven to Win. In the Match of the Round Avondale are home to Bowral in another very interesting clash. It will be interesting to see just how Bowral returns after a full year off and with a new Coaching structure at the club. Avondale were outstanding last year to take the Peter Woods Shield and deserve favoritism for this match. I’ll go for the home side again. Avondale to Win.
