Social transition tips for trans people: Newbie Edition✨

It’s been really heartwarming to see just how wonderful my coworkers have been literally from the get go regarding my coming out and transition.  They’ve been so wonderful and kind and I’m constantly giddy and lighthearted knowing that they’re such great people.

I’m so incredibly lucky, and I wish that everyone else going through this could have such a supportive environment as they go through such a challenging time in their lives.

A note on my coming out talk with Michelle last October: yes, that conversation happened.  It was an absolute riot and the moment I got home I immediately told my wife as that was, like, the funniest damn thing ever.

Michelle and I are both prone to be goofs, and this was a top tier, absolute A-Class goofy moment.

Love you, Michelle, keep being awesome!

Kitab - Robot Girl

So where does the desire to become a robot girl come from? Well...

Transcription below the fold:

1. I'm in my Baroness stealth armor (I don't really have Baroness stealth armor, but anything is possible in comics.) and addressing the reader. Me: What kind of weirdo would want to become a robot? Me: Um … me.

2. Artistic rendering of a scene from Superman III when Vera gets assimilated by the supercomputer. Me: The television debut of Superman III happened in the spring of 1986, and there was that scene toward the end… Me: You know the one.

3. Little kid me sits in front of the television and takes in the robot girl visions. Me: I was 11 years old and awash in the hormones of puberty. Young Me: Okay, that's … scary. But also weirdly kinda hot.

4. Little kid me sits in the theater, MST3K silhouette style, looking up at Arcee on the silver screen. Me: Later that summer, Transformers: the Movie hit theaters, and I was introduced to Autobot girl Arcee. Young Me (excited): Girl Transformer!

5. Assimilated Seven of Nine in her Borg alcove, illuminated by the green zappy behind her. Me: Then there was the Borg and their heavy rubber kinky cybernetics. Specifically Seven of Nine.

6. The glossy white Björk-bot from her video for "All Is Full Of Love". Me: Björk's "All Is Full Of Love" video did things to my brain. Me: That was the same year I came out as transgender.

7. Sepia-ish black and white artistic rendering of Maria the robot girl from Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Me: With the help of the early internet, I discovered the original robot girl of cinema, Maria from Metropolis.

8. Speculative glossy white robot me with pink and blue highlights. Me: How cool would it be to be a girl and a robot?! Hmm! Girl Transformer! Arrow Text: Design still in alpha.

9. Back to me again, looking a bit forlorn in my Baroness stealth armor. (Which is still awesome, don't get me wrong!) Me: Sadly, at age 50, I'm still made of meat. Arrow Text Left: Sexy, jet black, body hugging stealth armor Arrow Text Right: doe create a passable robotic look.

TRANS GIRL VAMPIRES ARE HOT AS FUCK RIGHT?

Now that I have your attention, read my ongoing trans vampire comic MORIBUND here or on Webtoon ^^

I’m hoping that this is as “angry” as I’ll get with a comic, but given how the world is shaping up politically at the moment, I fear that might not be the case.

It’s been incredibly eye opening to witness the degree to which some people I know are willing to bury their heads in the sand in order to avoid the reality of the awful things that are happening around them.�� Awful things that they were told were going to happen.

In America, people are being black bagged and shipped off to El Salvador without due process to be held indefinitely in prisons, with the current administration now making social media posts cruelly boasting that they’ll never return. 

Make no mistake, if people are being kidnapped by the government, given no due process, and are shipped to a foreign nation to be held in prison with no intention to give them any legal recourse, we need to call these prisons what they are:

They are death camps.

The United States of America is rounding up “undesirables” and sending them to death camps. 

There are people in this country that voted for this.  No matter how nice they otherwise seem or claim to be, these people are evil to the core. 

There are also people who didn’t vote for this, but do provide social validation and acceptance to those who did.

If you are someone who thinks you’re against fascism, but you also accept fascists in your life, you are a fascist. 

There can be no acceptance of intolerance.  In the comic, the person I’m lampooning is the “Fake Trans Ally”, but you can swap out “trans” for any other group of marginalized people.  Frankly, just call this person “The Fake Ally.”

If you’re someone reading this and feel attacked because I’m calling you a fake ally, it’s time to do some soul searching.  When the history books are written about this period of American history, are you going to be someone who was unambiguously against hatred, or were you someone that treated hate as acceptable? 

Were you someone that invited hatred into your home?

Were you someone that shared a meal with hatred?

Were you someone that allowed hatred a safe haven?

If you’re someone that does that, you yourself are hateful. 

When you accept hate, you do so at the expense of those who are the target of that hatred.

Be better, our lives depend on it.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️ I made a comic reflecting on my church upbringing as an eXvangelical trans person. The Jesus conservative Christians claim to represent looked lot more like many of the LGBTQ+ friends I know and love. Just some food for thought 💖
