I want to encourage everyone reading this to take some time to educate yourselves about mental health during this turbulent era, in order to take care of yourselves and to strengthen your ability to provide the support that friends and loved ones may need.
When I was 13 I started pulling my hair out... I couldn't stop. I learned that what I was dealing with was a mental health disorder called “trichotillomania” (trich). I’ve been dealing with this now for almost 10 years, and today I decided to share my story.
There is so much power in telling a story. Mental health issues often hide in the shadows, and can cause affected individuals to feel isolated and alone. Sharing our own stories gives us the power to bring our personal struggles into the light. What was once a niche issue can become a mainstream topic of conversation. It all starts with a story.
I keep reading stories of people around the globe experiencing trichotillomania urges for the first time due to the anxieties of the pandemic we are currently living through. There is no better time to extend a hand of support to those dealing with this and other mental illnesses that have sprung up in this time of deep uncertainty.
I’m sharing my story today to educate people who may not have any idea what trichotillomania is, so that they can better understand and empathize. I’m sharing my story because I want to let others dealing with trich know that they are not alone.
If you have some time, please check out my trichotillomania story in the attached video.

. . . . . #trichotillomania #alopecia #trich #bfrb #hairpulling #hairloss #trichotillomaniaawareness #mentalhealth #skinpicking #bfrbawareness #ocd #dermatillomania #microblading #hairlosssolution #mentalhealthawareness #nailbiting #eyebrows #trichotillomaniarecovery #bfrbs #wigs #excoriationdisorder #bodyfocusedrepetitivebehaviors #hairpullingdisorder #anxiety #skinpickingdisorder #excoriation #brows #alopeciaareata #beauty #bhfy (em JK Shopping DF) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMusf_VBs0V/?igshid=3g9iwjbbfkuc

My fave wig from @litunicorns_ I want a purple one in the same style and maybe blonde too. The wigs are definitely helping me with my trichtotillomania. I don’t pull my hair out and the synthetic hair doesn’t give the same feeling as human hair does. It also helps with confidence, as a lot of us have feelings of shame and low self esteem because of the way our hair looks because of the pulling . The wigs help with that, or at least they help me. And maybe they will help you too. Use code Glamorousandgeeky for $5 off @litunicorns_ 🥰 I hope it helps . #litunicorns #wigs #trichotillomania #trichotillomaniaawareness #trichotillomaniarecovery #lacewigs #mermaidhair #pinkhair #renttherunway #dress #maxidress #shein #pierrehardy #outfitgram #haircare #mentalhealth #styleblogger #ootdmag https://www.instagram.com/p/CF678ghghZW/?igshid=8o8cxi7e4cr3

Approximately 1 in 50 people have or will experience trichotillomania in their lifetime. In my latest blog post, I describe what it’s like to have trich, and how to support someone struggling with trich. I really recommend this post to those who do AND do not have trich to promote awareness and a better understanding.
