It’s Trilobite Tuesday! Meet Heliopeltis, one of Morocco’s strangest Devonian trilobites. This 400-million-year-old marine arthropod had a small body, large eyes, and long spines. Scientists think its unusual physique indicates that this species floated on gentle ocean currents.

hand printed/sewn/quilted trilobite wall hangings up in my shop now! remnants from a larger project I wasn’t happy with as a whole, but i love the individual pieces. all made with reclaimed denim from an old chair cover, and stitched with thrifted thread. each of the trilobites are stuffed to stick up from the rest of the fabric just a tad :)

Pyritized OMANYTE//OMASTAR & Pyritized KABUTO//KABUTOPS

A Pyritized fossil is one where during the formation of said fossil it becomes iron pyrite, a mineral know as "fool's gold" due to its golden shine. This process is common in fossils from the Paleozoic era like Ammonites and Trilobites

This versions of OMANYTE and KABUTO are revived from such pyritized fossils, this not only changes their color, giving them both a golden shell, but also changes their type, now being Water/Steel type

Welcome to Trilobite Tuesday! Have you ever wondered how trilobites are found in the field? Often, as was the case for this 3.1-in- (8-cm-) Thysanopeltis, rock after rock must be cracked by hand and carefully examined. The presence of a thin cross-section of calcite—like the crack still visible running through the middle of this critter’s body—indicates that a complete specimen might be buried within the stone matrix.
