1. the eye of the world by robert jordan

firstly because it's been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now, but also because the woman who recommended it to me wrote really well and said that was where she got a lot of her inspiration from! also because i love chunky fantasy books, though i don't know that anything can top the priory of the orange tree anymore

2. the sea by john banville

i simply can't keep reblogging gorgeous quotes from the book without having read it, so i'd like to read it! i also am just a big fan of anything about water so it's an easy sell

3. a psalm for the wild built by becky chambers

i read this short story by becky chambers last year and loved it, so i already wanted to read more of her work, and then this book was recommended to me by someone whose taste in books aligns very well with mine so i thought i'd give it a go!

4. moby dick by herman melville

okay so this is partially here bc alexandria reminded me i wanted to reread it because it's on her list. but i read this when i was 8 i think and didn't really process any of it, so i'd like to read it again and see if i can actually understand the words on the pages a bit better this time. also again, anything about water, i love it

5. middlemarch by george eliot

honestly, it just looks like it'd be an interesting read. i don't know much about it, but i know that virginia woolf liked it which is a good start?

6. amerika by franz kafka

i'd actually also like to read the trial by kafka as well because then i'll have read all three of his novels, but i think i'd like to read this one first. essentially, i read the castle last year and LOVED it so i'd like to get around to the rest of the poor man's work!

belle’s 2020 tumblr wrap up

i almost didn’t make one of these because i lost my laptop charger on my flight home to california and i didn’t want to type this out on my phone but after being tagged in so many people’s wonderful end-of-year messages (thank you @sunlightwoo​ @heartyyjeno​ @atbzkingdom​ @chaoticdeobi @xfirebenderx @fairyoftbz​ and for including me thus far 💗) i decided i had to join this beautiful love fest and end the year on a good note! 

m i l e s t o n e s  (personal and for the blog) ✨

◇ on february 17th 2020 i started stanning (and eventually ulting) the boyz!   ↳ this is important because i had been listening to the boyz’s music since no air era, but never watched their videos or learned the members’ names. after stanning the boyz, i was introduced to my beautiful deobiblr, which is such a warm and welcoming community. i met most of treasured mutuals through this community and honestly don’t know what i’d do without it!

◇ on april 23rd 2020 i reached 1,000 followers on my blog!     ↳ this was very special to me because i have previously reached 1k followers on many different platforms (quotev.com, wattpad, a different tumblr blog, etc.) but after not writing for a long time i was worried people wouldn’t like my writing anymore or that i wouldn’t be good at it after taking a break. reaching this number was surreal for me and it made me realise that i wanted to study creative writing in university, which i am now doing!

◇ on may 30th 2020 i graduated high school!   ↳ i graduated with honours and a 4.0 along with a lot of life-long friends that i had made in the two years i spent at my competitive, college-prep private school. i faced a lot of hardships but eventually got through it and i am a better person for it. congratulations to all the graduates who didn’t get the graduation they all dreamed of, you did something spectacular this year!

◇ on august 24th 2020 i started university as a creative writing major!   ↳ 2020 was a crazy year for everyone and it made picking which uni to go to really hard, but there was one uni in particular that loved my admissions essay and wrote to me personally saying they would love to have me in their creative writing program, which really touched me and interested me in this uni. i’ve always been someone who finds academics really important so i had gotten multiple scholarship offers from different “higher ranking” universities, but i was able to learn what was important to me in picking a school that would both foster my learning and make me feel at home.

◇ on september 21st 2020 i got my first ever B on a test!    ↳ and i was really happy about it. in high school i strived to get 100% on every test and would have panic attacks when i got even a single point off. i wish i was joking, but that’s the truth. i’ve always been a perfectionist and i wanted to have a more healthy relationship with my personal expectations in university. being in uni helped me to pace myself academically and learn to juggle doing fun things – like this lovely blog – alongside studying. i still managed to get all As in my final grades for this semester, but i really loved letting myself get Bs and take breaks. 

◇ on october 18th 2020 i reached 2,000 followers on my blog!   ↳ if you read how important reaching 1k to me was, you can probably guess how amazing and emotional this was for me. not only did i have enough followers to fill three of my high schools, but i had made a lot of friends at this point, and that was so special to me. i had also never done a special series to celebrate a milestone, and as i stand here on december 31st with 2,457 followers, i have yet to finish my 2k celebration due to taking a short break from writing. don’t worry though, it’s all coming very soon!

◇ on november 29th 2020 i reached 1,000 notes on a masterlist!  ↳ facade? was my first social media au masterlist to reach 1,000 notes and when that happened, it truly blew my mind. i have no words to describe how special that moment was for me. a lot of people loved it because they resonated with the main character or because they found all the plot twists fun, and i really love that so many people enjoyed it and gave it a chance, despite the general plot being quite common.

◇ on december 7th 2020 i reached 1,000 notes on a fic! ↳ he loves me, he loves me not was my first one shot/fic to reach 1,000 notes and my second fic ever to reach 1k notes, which was literally crazy. so many people have reached out to me about that fic and how much it resonated with them and their experiences, and i just loved that this was the first written fic i ever had reach 1k notes because of the emotional implications.

Her writing is always exceptional and its made me cry on many occasions. but also has made me HELLA happy. It’s a wonderful escape that everyone needs to take part in. The way she writes for Obidala is literally no damn words I am utterly obsessed with Obidala all because of how she writes for them the detail, the feeeeelings ugh the feelings, fuck me up the slooooow burns and the fast pace in other fics is fckn AMAZING. 

Abby has helped me through so many things serious and not so serious I am truly honored to be her friend. I always admired writers for the worlds they craft, the characters they develop, and the plots they devise, all for it to come together in one cohesive work of literature. Now that I have a vague understanding of what that’s like, I know that it’s nothing short of strenuous. Words are so powerful, and although I’m a really sensitive sap, I’ve read so many things that hit me to the core, and now I’m sure to tell the authors how much I enjoy their fics. If they went through hours (perhaps days/weeks/months) of drafting, writing, editing, and formatting, a quick comment from the reader really doesn’t hurt !! It’s the most rewarding thing a writer could ever ask for. As an amateur author myself, being on the receiving end is the thing that keeps me going !! I promise you, I don’t take any of it for granted. Your words seriously resonate with me, and it’s a huge motivator for me !! I hope that in the new year, I can work on new pieces for you all (as much as I don’t want to make up excuses, juggling life is not easy as a student!!) It was both a personal thing for me and a Doctor Who reference.The Kintsugi refers to a method of repairing broken ceramic by filling the cracks with gold. It symbolizes seeing the beauty in the broken and I went from someone who was pretty sad and kept her flaws hidden behind one mental wall upon another, to someone who became willing to share her flaws with people she trusted instead of having her fear of being rejected keep her from sharing anything at all. 18. Hello There! Thank you so much for you kind words! And may I be one of the first to welcome you to the Roleplay Community on Tumblr, as well as ( more specifically?) to the Comicbook Fandom! I’ve been exactly where you are now, my friend, as a veteran of RP from other sites and venues, newly branching into this hot little mecca of writing known as Tumblr!

                                               I think you’re really going to like it here. :) 

Tumblr is an expansive universe where the possibilities are limitless, both within and beyond the fandom your character might originally hail from. It is the birthplace of some truly wonderful things, like SuperWhoLock, Batfamily Shenanigans, and Redemption from Marvel’s Civil War 2 trash. On here, all those usual rules that controlled the way you wrote your character in an RP Community or chat room no longer exist, granting you freedom to interpret them any way you wish (or multiple ways in multiple settings!). Many fandom, like the DC Comics Fandom, are populated by passionate and friendly writers who want to interact with others that feel just as strongly about the universe as they do!

But, and I’m sure you’ve heard this, RPing on Tumblr is not for the faint of heart. All those things that make this place a source of creativity and inspiration also allow for some serious issues. The site itself can be a challenge, not really designed for intuitive, flowing RP threads. The atmosphere of a fandom, usually so positive, is also constantly changing in nature, and populated heavily by free variables (i.e. people), so that there are no comfort zones for anyone involved.

On one hand, this will make you a better writer, a more conscientious interpreter of character motives, and a much stronger RPer overall. On the other hand…. well, even the best fandoms have their fair share of abuse, and no one is immune to having their feelings hurt.

Knowing all this, me and my fellow roleplayers still come online to write our hearts out everyday, because we love to write and Tumblr is hands-down one of the most prolific places for Roleplay on the internet. And I’ll tell you this, lovely anon, hard as it is, tumblr RP is also a breeding ground for wonderful and meaningful friendships that will last far longer than even the strongest OTP. That’s why I’m so pleased to heard that you are willing to give Tumblr RP a try, even if you don’t feel totally certain about how to start.

As for me, I look forward to seeing you in the this fandom community (or perhaps another!) and possibly interacting with you in the future. Thank you so much for trusting me enough with your question. I’m certainly not an expert on being a successful roleplayer (some days I make a potato look like a better talent than me!), but I hope I can offer a few small pointers that might help you get started on your way to RP glory.

First of all, regardless of whatever fandom has caught your fancy, I suggest you research the atmosphere of the RP community here on Tumblr. Use the search feature to scope out RP tags for the fandom, spot promos for characters, and stalk any RP communities currently seeking applications on the site.  All this information will give you a feel for the type of RP experience you’ll have while in that fandom., and may influence your decision to take up a certain character.

If you have a personal tumblr blog, but you want to RP a character in a fandom, then I highly recommend you make another (completely separate) tumblr blog. Sideblogs are nice, but they don’t work well when you’re following others and want to interact via asks, replies etc. Things can get very confusing, very fast, especially in the activity feed!

Many people swear by their ‘About’ pages, and that’s a good thing. Once you’ve created your character blog and start reaching out to others, most RPers on tumblr will bee-line for your ‘About’ or ‘Rules’ page as soon as they see you’ve followed them. This is a courtesy so they can know how to best approach your character and what the important details should be known when RPing with you. So, to hedge your bets in a good way, always make an About Page and include all vital details about your character on it!

Also, keep in mind, there is no wrong way to write an About Page. You can check other RPers’ blogs for examples, but just write it however most makes sense to you. As long as it gives the reader an understanding of your vision with your character, that’s what matters.

Sometimes when you’re starting out, especially if you’re playing an OC or a lesser known Canon character, you’re going to have to be the brave one that reaches out to others and asks for threads. Just posting opens and following other blogs might not get you the responses you hope for, and I don’t want that to discourage you. Don’t be afraid to (respectfully) go after the RPer you’re interested in writing with, I guarantee they’re all super nice people and they will respond favorably to your interest in them!

Depending on the type of person you are, I would recommend possibly getting an instant messenger account for your RP blogs. I know that Tumblr messenger exists, but many RPers prefer to limit access to who can message them via that interface. The most popular instant messenger choices on tumblr are Skype, Kik, and Discord. This is certainly Not a requirement, and please don’t feel pressured to get an account if you are not comfortable with talking to strangers via instant messenger. But, if you love to spazz out over your fandom, and you love to share plot ideas and headcanons, then you will find a great many fast friends in the RP fandoms on tumblr. So many writers (me included!) love to share their inspiration in this quick way, and translate it to writing on the site!

Learn the fine art of tagging posts. Tags are just about the only thing we Tumblr RPers have as a search filter on this website, and some of us follow certain tags religiously. And I don’t just mean our tumblr url, I mean anything we feel is relevant to our character. For example, I track the tags: #sunxking, #apollo, #midnighterandapollo, #midnighter, #TheAuthority, etc. I also generously tag anything I post so that I can easily find it again on my blog, or provide navigation links to it for others to find. (such as #openstarter for all my Apollo RP opens). Additionally, I feel it’s important to be careful in tagging for triggering posts. I always tag with the keyword of the triggering content, and append the triggering keyword with either ‘ts’ (for tumblr savior) or ‘tw’ for “trigger warning.” Keep in mind that if you’re tagging an original post (not a reblog) that only the first five tags are picked up by the tumblr search engine. 

Stay open minded. And I don’t just mean in regards to crossovers and alternate universes. There will be RPers that you will meet that may interpret a well-known character in a way that seems entirely contradictory to how you envision them. And you may like it… or you may not. But sometimes thinking outside of the box produces great rewards, and you never know what innovative idea might spring out of a crack conversation. Regardless, always follow the rule of thumb: Respect others and lead with kindness.

Hopefully these initial pointers will help you hit the ground running with an RP blog on tumblr! There are other things people focus on, like the right theme, or text formatting… but that stuff doesn’t really matter to me. Personally, as long as your writing content reflects your dedication to your character, I am interested in reading it!

Star sign: Aquarius/Pisces, because I was born the 19th of February, so some horoscopes consider I’m an Aquarius and others consider I’m a Pisces. As I’m somewhere in between, I’m weird as hell.

Height: I’m 185 cm (6 feet). Does it make me one of the tallest girls in Spain? I don’t know, but it’s hard to find someone of my height around these lands (please, tall people, come to me, love me, make me feel like I’m average height).

When did you create your blog: I created my main blog 5 years ago (I think), and the studyblr I’m posting this in was created a couple of years ago, as a secondary blog (that’s the reason you’ll never see “thenorthernthrone has followed you”, but you’ll see “officialchloejr has followed you” or “officialchloejr has left a comment on your post” (now changed to MrsPadawan because I’m a nerd and I can’t help myself). I tried to change this blog and make it the main one but discovered that I can’t, so we’ll have to cope with this situation by now.

What kind of stuff do I post?: Studying related stuff: motivation, bullet journals, agendas, studying spaces, books,... I barely post something mine, because I’m a mess, my handwriting is ilegible and I the level has been set to high for me (but I try, I promise).

Do you have any other blogs: Yeah, my main blog, which is called MrsPadawan (S-U-P-E-R-N-E-R-D).

Do you get asks regularly?: Asks? What are those? (This means that nope, I don’t get asks regularly and it makes me sad).

Why did you choose your URL?: Because as I said before, I’m a nerd, so I though that as I live in the north of Spain and I like Game of Thrones (the Starks indeed) this URL would fit me perfectly. 

Gender: Female (her/she).

Hogwarts house: Slytherin.

Pokemon team: I don’t play Pokemon Go, but if I did I would have chosen Mystic or Valor, because they’re leaded by girls and who run the world? Girls.

Fave colour: Black, as my soul, my clothes and accessories and bank account.

Average hours of sleep: 6 hours, 7 if I’m feeling lucky.

Lucky number: A white 13-ish shaped spot of a black cat who has crossed the street right before my feet and has stopped to say hello, that’s the only way for me to have luck these days.

Fave characters: Anakin Skywalker, Rey (Star Wars The Force Awakens), The Winter Soldier (Bucky), Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Black Widow,... In my heart there’s place for every single character, even more if they show deep feelings (ya get me, right?).

How many blankets do you sleep with?: All the blankets in the world wouldn’t be enough to make my feet warmer at night (they hang out of bed, because I’m too tall to fit in a normal bed, why would you do this to me midichlorians?).

Dream job: Hollywood actress or singer. As I can’t be any of them , I’m hoping I can be a scientist so I can gain a lot of money and become a superhero as Tony Stark did. I have big aspirations.
