Actually I want to explore the comparison between Marcella and Trystane's betrothal and Sansa and Joffrey's a bit more. It's an interesting foil that Doran is scheming from the start (we know he was plotting the destruction of the Lannisters, even if he was consciously trying to make Myrcella inherit Casterly Rock), while Robert was acting in good faith in the sense that he genuinely wanted a marriage alliance to fuse their houses together but the actual relationship between Trystane and Myrcella personally seems relatively healthy (although obviously war between their houses will put a barrier across that), whereas it's clear that Joffrey's courtesy was an act from the beginning.

I just realized that House Martell has Arryn blood in it through the first Daenerys, who descends from Aemma Arryn. I would've never thought about connecting this houses together, it's kinda crazy. Makes you think about how connected the Main Houses are between each other in ways that are not as apparent.

No because the ASOIAF fandom needs to address how the ‘Martell are brown’ headcanon became just a justification/excuse to fetishise SWANA and Indian culture. It is completely valid to want representation, but Orientalism isn’t it.

GRRM said that he was inspired by Iberian and North African (moors) culture and history, and honestly I would have loved to see some Amazigh/Indigenous North African influenced art and edits, maybe some more unknown sides of Spanish or Portuguese culture there, like the portuguese Estremadura.

Why Desi and South Asia? Is it to fetishise? Because Morocco and Algeria have beautiful cultures and there is enough of it online to use! I’ve seen people mixing Egyptian with Iranian culture and architecture just for the aesthetics! It’s literal Orientalism
