Well, shit.

I did it.

I actually did it.

93,000 words later (10% of them in the extra long last chapter WOWEEE) and I finished* my Same Weird Family post S2 spec fic series a whole two days before my self-imposed deadline of Season 3 Season 4.

(I've made my peace with S3 on Netflix and genuinely enjoy some bits of it but really, I still kinda secretly like my idea better. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong I'm here for all of it.)

Just rewatched season two episode two and my God the LOOK Five gives Luther when Luther tells him to fuck off about the apocalypse, I’m actually in shambles? HE JUST WANTS YOU TO BE SAFE AND LIVE!! Nobody in that family truly appreciates the shit Five went through just for a chance to save their lives. He doesn’t care about the world, doesn’t care about the commission, he cares about his family. I mean shit, Five Hargreeves has loved his family longer than they’ve been alive, and they just don’t realize how profound his love for them is. To know, they have someone who spent forty years alive on hell on earth just for a CHANCE to keep them safe? And to become an assassin and be experimented on, just to see them again??? I’m going to cry, he is truly the most sad character in this show, his whole life has been a cosmic joke and all he ever cares about is his loved ones, he’s the loyalest motherfucker in existence, SOMEONE GIVE HIM A HUG GODDAMNIT

Another way of looking at how different the vibes are for S2 & S3 from S1 is listening to Gerard's cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter" since he said it's the theme (besides the actual main theme by Jeff Russo) for TUA. You can listen to it and imagine S1 and think "Oh yeah that matches the overall feeling and mood of the season" but you just can't do that while imagining S2 & S3

i fully understand people being upset about the klaus getting sex trafficked thing & i don't want to excuse that plot line or anything else going on in s4 because it's sure ... not what i wanted (although i don't have high expectations for tuatv in general) but i feel like some are missing that it's just. lifted straight from the comics. that happens in the comics. almost beat for beat. the show has a very different tone from the comic and that's part of what makes it so jarring! but there's a - very flimsy - reason for including that specific plot line (other than needing klaus off doing something because for some reason tuatv is obsessed with making him irrelevant to the plot). yeah anyway

well seeing as it’s being made by a man receiving mass accusations of being an abusive and cruel boss and one of the leads is a Zionist with family who share that belief… I’m not 100% surprised to see that TUA has become a total car wreck. my condolences to the fans (I was once one) but yeah.

well, i finished rewatching s1 of the umbrella academy but i. uh. still have two seasons left to rewatch :/ so i will hereby be blocking all the tags and hopefully avoiding spoilers until i finish my rewatch and actually have time to watch s4 (whenever that may be) 🫡

TUA s4 felt just like OFMD s2 to me, in the way that it feels like the creators a) fundamentally did not understand what about their show appealed to audiences in the first place and b) did not care enough about closing up existing storylines vs starting new ones out of nowhere that had no foundation in the existing material

Howdy, I'm writing a series of short and soothing fluffy and only mildly angsty epilogues to my Same Weird Family fic series where Five gets the chance to interact with his family after all of the shenannigans are done.

In the latest chapter, Five finally gets to meet Claire, and we get some warm family fuzzies going.

ngl ive not seen any trailers for tua s4 yet bc i kept forgetting and it comes out in 2 days atp i might just go in blind tbh, but im getting excited

The reason I hate S2 and 3 is because while S1 did mainly flesh out Klaus, Viktor and Luther it also gave us clues into everyone’s else’s trauma that were never touched on and now three seasons in Five and Diego have yet to be properly fleshed out, Allison went from a great arc (S2) but no trauma explored to what the fuck (S3) (side note she SHOULD have had a villain arc but they just had her turn a 180 w no explanation instead of having a slow descent into villainy that would’ve been way more compelling imo), and Umbrella Ben is apparently dead now. Sparrow Ben ily but I wanted to see more of Umbrella Ben and them hating each other.

Everyone is either turned into a joke (Diego and Klaus, and Luther), overpowered as fuck (Viktor), given really shitty/nonexistent arcs (Ben, Allison, Five), or literally isn’t there enough to have a character despite how interesting it would be (every single one of the Sparrows). The plot twist Stan isn’t Lila and Diego’s kid is stupid bc they’re both clearly nonwhite and he clearly is white. Then again ig the writers keep forgetting Diego’s POC given how they never touch on that once even in the 60s (side from the bar scene w Allison ig).

Also, expansion of Diego’s powers??? Bro can control trajectory and you just. Do nothing more than him controlling bullets?? EVERYTHING HAS TRAJECTORY. He can control falling water or falling people or the fucking. TRAJECTORY OF PLANETS AND SHIT IN SPACE IF HE WANTED. Like?? Five. HE DID SO MUCH COOL SHIT IN S2 THAT’S NEVER EXPANDED ON? Viktor bby ily but why are you just going boom blast thing now. His powers are sound focus on that!! Really good hearing, soundwaves, controlling what people hear?? Holy FUCK stop giving him powers and start expanding on them.

Also Luther stop marrying your sisters please.
