Elizabeth de York's portrait is one of my favorites and I have always had a fascination with it and its reproductions. Despite the fact that I'm not exactly a big fan of the Tudor dynasty, Henry VII and Elizabeth of York are historical figures that pique my interest, given their connection with the Wars of the Roses. This fascination of mine for this representation in history means that almost all my drawings with Elizabeth are composed of the clothes worn in this portrait. And today it seems that that was no exception.
So we have an Elizabeth of York in all her splendor and further back ... a very proud husband! XD

Details of Paul Laroche’s 1834 painting, “The Execution of Lady Jane Grey”.
“Where is it? What shall I do?” were some of the last words uttered by England’s “nine days” Queen while blindfolded and unsuccessfully reaching out for the scaffold upon which she rested her head shortly before her execution, which took place on 12 February 1554.

"Anne was particularly admired for her exquisite taste and the elegance of her dress, earning her the praise of Pierre de Brantôme, a seasoned courtier, who noted that all the fashionable ladies at court tried to emulate her style, but that she possessed a ‘gracefulness that rivalled Venus’. She was, he concluded, ‘the fairest and most bewitching of all the lovely dames of the French court.’ By the time that Anne returned to England in 1522, she had blossomed into an attractive young woman. Her slim, petite stature gave her an appealing fragility, and she had luscious dark brown hair, which she grew very long. Her most striking features, though, were her eyes, which were exceptionally dark and seductive, ‘inviting conversation."

HOLY SHIT. I MET NATALIE DORMER!!!! Absolutely incredible 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
She did a talk at The Oxford Union (the local debating society) and I went; they're uploading the recording they did at some point. She did talk about The Tudors and Anne a lot. She said she felt a profound responsibility to Anne since she was a real person and can't help but feel protective of her whenever she sees another portrayal lol (shades of Genevieve Bujold) Also she did a lot of research for the role - she mentioned Starkey and Fraser but not Weir (we love to see it!!! She really admires Anne and sees her as a really strong and extraordinary woman and she mentioned Elizabeth probably got a lot of her fire and strong will from Anne. But at the end of the day she did say she had to follow the script as the main vehicle for her performance. However, she felt it was her duty working with the script to nudge people in what she saw as the right view of Anne, so even if she had to do a scene where Anne is really unsympathetic (maybe she meant the scenes where Anne was really plotting against Mary?), she'd still try to rebel and work against the grain in that way through like small acting choices and stuff.
The full thread of my notes on her talk is here btw: https://twitter.com/CunananEnzo/status/1620865465726951425?t=oJBYmUBO9KXeR79OptrO_g&s=19
But ya it was amazing seeing her !!!
