Thinking about Van Zieks and his Racism-Via-Backstory because at first I thought it was a cop out like just make him racist as a product of society you don't need a specific reason but then I remembered that a fairly liberal person I know backtracked HARD into transphobia and self- righteousness due to a traumatic experience with a transperson trying to get her fired from work for mostly just being an imperfect cis white woman. Just.. GOD. It makes Van Zieks so messy and human. It just says.. "see? I went against society, I gave you a chance, and look where it got me. look how i was repaid."

I've wanted to remake this meme ever since i finished The Adventure of the Runaway Room (疾走する密室の冒険)/DGS 1-3.

I laughed so hard when i first saw that cutscene. He looked like he couldn't give less of a damn except that he had to have it cleaned up by the next trial.

☆ .* note ─ this is a prolouge for the story I'm working rn, it's a tgaa story a yandere barok and yandere herlock x reader story!! I've been reading the og Sherlock book so I can put some refrences!! Hope you like this prolouge and you can give me your thoughts about this story!! A small clanking sound, heard only outside the garden where the owner of the house was walking around her small garden holding a small basket, only halfway filled with white and yellow chrysanthemum flowers, each one of them looks fresh after yesterday's rain droplet hits the pedals making them glaze like a refine glass.��

The woman still walking around her small garden suddenly stood still at an Indigoletta rose before her. She planted this rose ten years prior and still to this day she still always manages to take such delicate care of the rose. But no matter how gorgeous the rose she only brushed her fingertips to the glistening petals and her eyes full of longing when she touched it. Feeling that her staring will do nothing, her fingertips went back to her batch of flowers then back to what she was doing.

The woman looked at the baskets and noticed that it seemed odd. Like something was missing, she couldn't understand it, she has been doing this many times and why does she only feel this kind of strangeness, like she forgot something but not knowing what it is she can’t figure it out herself. Before the woman could succumb to her thoughts she heard a knock at her door. 

With a quick movement and a slight sigh, she put away the chrysanthemums and walked into her living room to see who could be at the door.

 Opening the door she found the tan skin, looped hair and pink wearing jōgakusei girl-her unofficial apprentice - Mikotoba Susato. The girl smiled brightly at the sight of her tutor and gave a small but respectful bow as a greeting.

 “Good afternoon, Professor.” said the young woman with a gentle smile on her face. The tall woman nodded. “Good afternoon, Mikotoba. What brings you here today? I'm pretty sure that our next turtoring shall be next week and I'm also sure that you're going to be the last person who gets dates wrong, so what is it?"

  With a soft giggle the young girl shook her head. “No, no, I am not here for another toturing. And I am definitely did not forget the date, but I came here because…” She paused and took some papers from her school bag, handing them over to her tutor. “Father wants me to give you this papers, it's legal papers for me to be recognised as a judicial assistant in the eyes of British law." She said while her toture receive the papers while looking with a mild dejected face. "They're still hanging to it huh?" said the woman who just sighed while she adjusted the papers to the nearby table.

"And also," the woman now perked "Kazuma-sama wanted your presence in our state after dinner, to be precise 7:40 pm sharp, he'll be waiting in his room he said, by the look at his face I feel like it's very serious so I guarantee that you may come and seek him." the girl said while the other woman listened intently. 

The woman can only look at the girl and nod to her "Certainly, I wouldn't mind. If it's that important then I'll surely come over and talk to him." The young girl noticing the banjo clock behind the woman hitting an exact 8:50 am said, "Now then I think it's my que to leave, you do need time to read and sign all the papers," the girl said seemingly "So I'll be off and don't worry I'll be telling Kazuma-sama. Thank you!'' The young Mikotoba can give her a sweet smile and a small bow. 

The woman nodded as a reply and waved goodbye to her before closing the door. She sighed again and put the papers on the table before heading to the bathroom to freshen up a bit. As the door closed behind her the young upcoming judicial assistant glanced at the door with the name of her female proffesor and looked at it with some sort of determination.

'I know that you'll find the courage to step foot on that place again,'

► (Y/N)s' House is half English half Japanese architecture and the outside is a small traditional Japanese garden with a lot of European flowers blooming. She gives them to kids and neighbours whenever she sees them or anyone gazing upon them.

► Despite the sakura theme jōgakusei that Susato is always wearing, her favourite flowers are actually Magnolias and Gladiolus. Because those are flowers that remind her of you during your youth based on the stories you've told.

Some van Zieks bros headcanons I'd like to share

-Barok appearance wise takes more after his father but has a personality more similar to his mother, Klint looks more like their mother but has their father's personality

-Thier paternal line comes from the Netherlands. Their great grandfather studied law in England, and remained through his law career. His contributions to the legal system is what gained him the noble tittle that was passed onto his descendants who also followed in his footsteps in working in law.

-Barok and Klint's parents died in a carriage accident when Barok was only 6 and Klint 16. While he had help getting little Barok dressed and fed by the household servants, Klint had to do a lot of Barok's raising on his own.

-Even well before his despair that led up to his killings, Klint would have boughts of severe stress and depression. Between raising Barok, and all the pressure he put on himself to succeed as a prosecutor and do his family line justice he was under constant stress, though he was good at putting on a brave face. It wasn't an unrealistic expectation for his parents but he was just a child himself and had to put himself through training and school to get where he needed to be.

-After their parents' death, Barok was prone to nightmares that would leave him shaking and crying. He had to sleep next to Klint for a while. It helped prevent the nightmares in the first place but when they did happen it helped to have Klint right beside him to sooth him when he woke up.

-Barok eventually grew out of the nightmares and it seemed they were gone for good. That was until Klint's death. Between losing his brother and now being the target of physical attacks by the disgruntled goons of the reaper victims, they came back worse than ever. It persisted for years and was one of the factors that led him to his five year gap.

-While the van Zieks brothers (and their father for that matter when he was alive) were always rather indulgent in wine, Barok got badly into drinking during his five year gap. By the time he returned, he was still a functional alcoholic but didn't actually drink as much as he used to. He found ways to calm his drinking vice down, for example pouring out a glass, perhaps taking one or two sips, or just smelling and swishing it, and then throwing it when he felt inclined to start stress drinking.

He needs to say this and get it off his chest. “Self harm. And self sacrifice. As you know. When Genshin approached me and told me of his plan I was more than happy to let him kill me. I didn’t wish to live anymore.” Admitting that made him feel like a weight was lifted from his shoulders. He was glad to be free of that burden now. “And Kazuma like I was back then has demonstrated that he’s more than willing to hurt himself for others. I don’t want things to get any worse for him. I care for him greatly, even if he hates me for everything I did.” Klimt makes note that Asougi might avoid him, or pretend that nothing happened. He lets out a chuckle. “Yes, we certainly have witnessed each other losing our composure far too often. I’m sure it doesn’t even faze you to watch me fall apart. We should visit their graves together soon.” Klimt says.

A mixture of both. He's certainly repressing things, but... well, he's always had issues with honesty. He almost never opens up about anything.

You could... try to speak with him. I'm unsure how successful you would be, but perhaps it will help him to know that you don't hate him, either.

DGS Rarepairs, Pt 5

Lady Baskerville x Mrs. Asogi (I got this by listening to Vigilante Shit. Originally, I thought this song described Lady B's situation if she left Klint in the aftermath of the Professor case -- but the ex in the song is implied to be a cis woman, which doesn't really suit a storyline where she starts an affair with Genshin...so, why not set her up with Mrs. Asogi in this case? Definately AUish, but I guess they could've always secretly meet up? Especially if the Ziekervilles & the Asogis had some kind of polycule going on?)

Lady Baskerville x Evie Vigil (they have the vibes like they met up in a writers' group & later fell in love by collabing on a steamy romance-mystery novel. Hmm. Maybe they try & react all the scenes & storylines they've written, you know, "for research?". Love this! I may actually write this one)

Rei x Barok (Rei would have to be aged up here/Barok aged down. Either way, I kind of love the idea of him swooping in & saving her -- she loves a gallant, chivalrous, handsome man after all! Bonus points if there's a scene where they have to bandage each other or Barok seductively pour wine over one of his chest wounds to clean them before Rei bandages him. This one's giving me "Barok international sexy seductive superspy" vibes, although it totally makes sense in canon, given how often he's attacked. This is an oddly fun idea to me --- I may write this one.)

TW: Alcoholism, depression, divorce, unhappy marriages, death

Barok x Irene Adler (until I finished the game, my OG theory about Iris' parents were van Zieks -- that is, Barok van Zieks -- and Irene Adler had a happy marriage before the Professor case + Barok's depression era happened. Irene later decided to leave Barok without telling him she was pregnant. She later gave baby Iris to Sholmes, her good friend, hoping that Iris would have a stable, happy home with him, before dying in childbirth.

Obviously, jossed by the canon, but now that I know that Sholmes himself sometimes crossdresses as Irene Adler & he is Iris' father, this is actually plausible! I'm so pleased because I can finally write a lighter version of this story! Plus, I'm a Vanlock shipper, so it's perfect! I'm definitely going to do a love triangle thing when I get to writing this one.

A stuttering, blushing mess was the boy; Ryunosuke Naruhodo when you accepted his love confession. He was not intense unlike a certain best friend of his when showing his affections towards you, he's sweet and charming in his own ways making sure that he's doing everything in his power to be the best lover to his beloved.

He's quite suffocating with his affections but you can live with that you think. He was--in your opinion the best lover you ever had until you started noticing that a lot of your friends were drifting away from you ever since you started dating Ryunosuke, you tried your best not to think deeply about it but then you noticed the guy who used to flirt with you at campus started avoiding you like a plague, and then like a courtroom evidence started stacking off. Remember that one friend who warned you about Ryunosuke? Ryunosuke somehow made you avoid that friend.

But you dare want to question your lover, who has done everything for you?

My, it seems like you caught the eye of the composed, yet hot-blooded Kazuma Asougi. Him being determined to claim your heart by courting you, you felt super flattered. It's not like everyday you'll see anyone declare their intention of courting someone in front of a whole crowd and better yet someone as handsome and diligent as Kazuma. 

Everyday he'll pick you up at your estate, maybe even trying to woo your parents into thinking he's a perfect partner for their child. Maybe it's his passionate words about how he's ready to climb mountains after mountains just for your soft everlasting touch. Let's say after his whole speech his name will be brought up more every time you visit or eat together with your family. 

At first you thought that this was too good to be true, Kazuma is always the first person you'll see in the morning, he'd carry all your stuff for you and even bring you gorgeous accessories, until he became quite overbearing... 

He'd act so possessive over you, making sure that every free moment of your time should be with him. He'd act so jealous whenever you're getting too close to your male or female friends. There isn't a single moment where you can't hear his name on someone's mouth and your parents didn't help either, they were always gushing about him like how he helped your mother pick up some groceries or how your father talks about how he's easy to bond with, maybe if you have siblings; younger siblings to be exact rants of how big brother Kazuma help them with their homework and after that played with them. It was too much, you want time for yourself. But you can't do that now, rejecting a man like Kazuma would not only make your parents see you with dejected eyes but also Kazuma is a stubborn man, no matter what you say or do he'll always be coming back to you. No matter what he won't back down.

Sometimes being passionate and determined can lead you to being stubborn.

How charming and unique she is; Judicial assistant Susato Mikotoba was always there for you, she was a woman who you can truly depend on, she'll always there's help you giving you new knowledge she's a determined and fierce woman if she ever hears someone talks bad about you she would be giving them a great scolding.

You were used to the smell of tobacco and sweet pastries ever since you became close to the infamous detective: Herlock Sholmes and his assistant slash adopted kid slash border Iris Wilson. He may have a reputation and name for being called a great detective but if you spend even a second with him you might even find yourself wondering if the man in front of you even called a detective after all his deductions that do not even come close to being correct it's quite concerning time to time but that's the reason what led you to be close to him. You were helping him in every job he decided to accept you helped him fill in some missing logic, little but still crucial things, that's the reason why he kept on dragging you to new cases you basically didn't even have time to do your own detective work.

While your relationship with Iris was wholesome, she'd make some of the most delicious sweets you have ever tasted, and whenever both of you have remaining time you help her bake or cook dinner It truly a heartwarming bonding with her. Or maybe there are days when you and Iris are playing with each other she might be a genius but she is still a little girl. You really tried to avoid the feeling but both of them were overbearing in their ways, you one day decided to talk to them about their behavior and how much they were taking so much of your time but whenever you looked at their eyes especially Iris's the words would just die on your mouth and eat dinner with them with a sad smile on your face, Herlock would try his best to be more comfortable around with him and Iris the sweetheart she is would try to pry those thoughts off you.

Herlock knew exactly what he was doing with the help of Iris the both of them would be like one happy family, you wouldn't leave them, right?

[♡]ー ꒱・！the boot-rising, lip service deadly prosecutor - BAROK VAN ZIEKS.

Barok Van Zieks hates you. He hated how determined you were when helping the defense clear out the defendant's name and how your eyes spark with hope when doing so. 

You made his almost dead heart slowly beat for the first time in many years, he kept on investigating you, digging information after information on you, every time you were on a new case he would also be there, and he would throw some snarky remarks towards the attorney you were working with but never towards you. Whenever he's stressed or had a bad day he'd always look at a picture of you and his heart would beat faster, he just couldn't get enough of you. 

Barok knew what he was feeling wasn't normal and he was guilty for it. But he just couldn't resist you. The last straw was when he got injured when protecting you from a gunshot, probably the person was tied to the case and didn't want anyone finding out, besides the point. He woke up with you beside him with eyes with care and concern only for him. He hates you for him making feel greedy. He hates how much he yearns for you. He also hates himself that his heart is so weak for a person that everyone and anyone could love. You're so nice, kind, caring, understanding, selfless and so strong, that he can barely stand seeing you with another man when you've just started going out with even if it's just your legal companion.

... you made the Barok van Zieks weak.

And yet he loves you for it.

Gallant! Dashing! Such compliments could be said by Rei to you, she would praise everything you do. Gushing, Fussing at everything you do it's too much to bear, but you don't want to break the girl's heart. Why should you that girl is head over heels for you, and ready to put anything including her below you, your needs will always be first! 

She's always with you making sure that you won't get hurt but if you do get hurt then get ready for an incredibly adrenaline-rushed lady, she would fuss over it even if it's a paper cut, but don't worry she didn't learn medicine for nothing so let her take care of you! 

She would be bandaging your wound while trying to keep her cool but how can she? She's touching the skin of her beloved so how can she contain her lovestruck smile. Oh, how she dreamt about this! Like one of those fairytales when the princess heals the Knight. Now, would you love her and protect Rei like a princess while you act as her courageous Knight? You do love her, right?

[♡]ー ꒱・！the honest and hard-working sick detective - SATORU HOSONAGA.

He's an honest and hardworking man and you love him for that. Your fiance Satoru Hosonaga; a detective is such a lovely man. He's devoted to you making sure that you eat and sleep well, he's even the one making your bentos, better yet even if he's a detective he always has the time to make dinner for you. Day and night he's always on your side, ready to protect and smother you with his love. 

He would praise the floor which you've walked upon, how could he not? You were sweet and caring no wonder why he was attracted towards you, but like candy unwrapped and left unsupervised it will attract some flies, just like how your sweet honey personality attracted many suitors. Hosonaga knows his limits as a detective and the power he yields as one, he tried to be logical about it first but whenever one of your suitors were making moves on you all he sees is read and all logic are thrown out of the window, the longer he stays away from you the more he yearns of you. 

He'll keep you safe, and you'll always be loved by him, his love for you is expected of your soon-to-be husband.
