Babe, Wake Up, It’s Pride Month
Summary: Clementine gets a friendly call from Duck kicking off Pride Month.
Word Count: 924
Read on AO3:
Clementine yawned as she started to make her way towards the bed. She was ready to get under the covers and watch the latest episode of Rupaul’s Drag Race with Louis. Her husband was currently completely absorbed in whatever was on his phone. He kept typing away while Clementine got into bed and kissed him on the cheek.
“Whatcha up to?”
“Getting the text ready for midnight.” Louis mumbled and before Clementine could say anything he spoke again. “It’s time! Send!” He whacked his thumb against his phone then went back to frantically typing. “Aasim, you’re next!”
Clementine’s lips parted, ready to ask what was on his mind when suddenly her phone started to ring. With a quick glance she saw who it was.
“Hey, Duck,”
“Happy Pride! How’s my favorite bi doing? Feeling gay? Because I sure do!” His voice blew up her phone, making Clementine hold it back from her ear.
“Hell yeah I’m feeling gay! And happy pride to you too,” She glanced over and saw the mountain of a text her husband was preparing. That’s why he was so glued to his phone. “So, you just calling to say ‘gay rights’ or are you wanting to party?”
“Seriously?!?! Hell yeah! Yo, Knox, wanna party at Clem and Louis’?”
Clementine could hear Duck’s partner say something but it was too quiet to tell what.
“Tell Oakley we won’t be too loud,” Clementine added.
“Okay, they said yes anyway but I’ll let them know! I gotta call one more person and then the pan squad will be there!”
Duck hung up without another word and Clementine shook her head. Oh yeah - maybe she should make a few more calls.
Violet grumbled as she kept hearing her phone ding with texts. She tried her best to ignore it and instead burrowed her face further into the crook of Prisha’s neck. She knew what those texts were gonna be. Pride celebrations could wait; all she wanted to do right now was be with her wife. Fate didn’t seem to agree with those plans though as there was a knock on their front door. Violet sighed but ignored it until it kept going and going.
“Mmm, what’s that sound?” Prisha mumbled as she tried to blink the sleep out of her eyes.
“It doesn’t matter. Whoever’s there is gonna go away,” But Violet was proven wrong when the knocking continued.
“I’ll go check who it is,” Prisha slipped out of bed before Violet could say otherwise and blindly wandered through the apartment. She double checked to make sure her pepper spray was within reach if worst came to worst. Unlocking the door, she opened it and was immediately surprised when colorful confetti of pinks, oranges and white hit her directly in the face.
“Happy Pride, ya gay!” Renata beamed at Prisha who looked completely exhausted and confused. Her feelings only deepened as Sophie popped her head into view.
“Whoa! Congrats on being gay!” Sophie blew into a rainbow party horn causing it to shoot out and whack Prisha in the forehead.
“Why are you two here at three in the morning?”
“Because it’s Pride Month! Now we gotta hurry - to the Everett household!’ Renata declared then was off like a shot with Sophie right behind. Prisha stood there for a moment then silently closed the door. It was too early in the morning to deal with this.
“Minnie, Min!”
Minnie heard her wife’s voice as she was shaken awake.
“Babe, wake up, it’s Pride month!”
Minnie groggily opened her eyes and saw Renata’s bright smile.
“Yay! You’re finally awake!’ Renata started to kiss all over Minnie’s face while the ginger started to wake up.”
“Ren, what time is it?” Minnie looked over at the clock and saw that it was five AM. Way earlier than Renata usually got up but not so much for her.
“Come on, we gotta go!” Renata pulled at Minnie who was still waking up.
“What? Where?”
“To the first of many celebrations!” Renata wiggled her eyebrows playfully then kept pulling her wife along. It took Minnie a while before she realized they were heading to her old family house. When she arrived she was met with a flurry of confetti to her face.
“WOOO! You’re gay!” Sophie grinned then disappeared back into the kitchen. Minnie followed behind Renata who was busy helping Tenn make colorful pride pancakes.
“Hey there, Firefly,” Walter walked over and gave his daughter a hug. “Happy pride,”
“Thanks,” Minnie was still a bit groggy. “Oh yeah, happy pride,” She watched as her dad let go of the hug and wandered back into the kitchen.
“Matthew, we’re gonna need some more coffee,”
“You got it!”
Minnie watched her family for a minute before she felt her phone buzz in her pocket. Glancing down she saw that she had a ton of texts with the most recent being from James. As she opened it she finally registered what it said.
Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈 I hope you have a great start to the month. Also I was wondering if you wanted to join me on a walk later today. I found a great new hiking spot
Minnie smiled down at the message then sent one back.
Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈 and yeah sounds good
She clicked through all the messages and worked to reply to some when she heard her wife’s voice again.
“Minipie, come on, you gotta celebrate too!”
“Okay, okay,” Minnie smiled then put her phone away. She could tell this was gonna be a great Pride month.

9x06 / TFD TWD / Rickless eps. speculations
#twd spoilers
I saw a clip of Michonne and yeah I teared up. I think the saddest part of Rick’s being gone is that Michonne is so sad and had to raise her kid(s?...!) alone. I mean I already thought of that but it kinda feels worse or annoying since we know Rick’s been alive for six years too. I’m still interested in this uh new TWD show... it still interest me in some parts. I just don’t wanna see emo!Michonne. :( I hope she finds hope soon. (idk I’ll watch it..maybe on Netflix later on..but I’m reading spoilers and see gifs)
9x06, this episode is gonna a big a test for me to what TWD show will be like after Rick’s gone and six years had passed. (and for the fandom and ratings)
I think since the bridge was ruined, I think that means the communities don’t interact anymore. They’re not as united. The mains are affected the most from Rick’s not being there. They all probably haven’t seen each other much. Michonne is very harden ..again. It seems like she’s back to being like comic-Michonne in some ways. She’s in the misery plot and ...will find her happiness when she finds Rick. I think she doesn’t want new people or doesn’t want to leave ASZ. She’s holding on to the old ways or what it use to be.  Idk about Carol, but from spoilers, she sounds like Morgan by going back & forth with pacify or pragmatic/violence. Idk I’m annoyed with writers, aren’t these people by that time have laws now? Idk what’s endgame of Carol’s journey exactly. Daryl is ofc out in wilderness alone with a dog(?). Idk about Maggie. I hope we get some kind of closure with her.
Omg that spoiler about the Richonne baby. I knew if it’s true it would be a boy. heh Like I mentioned before, I have mixed feels about this. I don’t like that Michonne  and have to raise him alone with Judith as she think Rick’s dead. It’s so sad. Before I knew Rick’s alive, I really didn’t want this because it’s sad and added top of more sad feels. Now we know Rick’s alive, it’s like annoying because Rick doesn’t know and he doesn’t help her raise the baby. Another part of it is that since Rick’s gone from the show(AL leaving), I kinda want the baby to happen so that Richonne’s love and part of Rick is still there in the show.
We don’t know the baby’s name. I hope it’s not Alexander. meh. It’s probably Rick(Richard) Jr., but I hope they all call him RJ. I don’t want them calling him Rick. Like it’s weird ok.. Some names I had thought of: Stanley (lol), RJ, Andrew (with Andre/Andrea thing), any A-name like Arthur or C-name like Cedric, or Eric because of comic Elodie/E name.  Anyways, it reminds me that Judith is Clementine and Richonne Jr. is AJ. lol whatever. #twdg Oh and maybe TWD show people can dress Judith as Andrea in the comics, because she kinda looks like her and that hat. Little Annie Oakley.

My Town
Summary: Duck works with Oakley to protect their neighborhood from some baddies who want to steal Duck's toy car.
Word Count: 2102
Read on AO3:
Duck swayed on his feet causing the walkie-talkie on his PJ pants to nearly fall off with his movement.
“Shit, I don’t know why they gave me a meeting out of state right before Christmas. Sometimes I think I work for a bunch of numbskulls,” Kenny grumbled as he worked to iron his pants. He usually wouldn’t bother with that kind of stuff but after all the grief that Katjaa gave him about it and pointing out how it would look unprofessional, Kenny had folded. Now here he was, a taxi coming in fifteen minutes to pick him up and he was still floundering around.
“Are you gonna be back in time for Christmas?
Duck’s question made his dad glance up from his task.
“Yeah, even if work isn’t done it's too bad. I’m spending the holiday with my family. If those fuckers have any problems with it then-” Kenny huffed and shook his head. “Anyways, stay out of trouble while I’m gone. Don’t go calling the police now over silly stuff,”
“I won’t,”
Duck noticed the smile appear on his dad’s lips at that reassurance.
Kenny ruffled his son’s hair fondly. “Good. Alright, son, I’m heading out.” He turned and grabbed his bag before moving towards the stairs.
“Got everything?”
“Yep.” Kenny sighed good-naturedly, ready to go over his son’s usual checklist. He knew how much it meant to Duck to help him out before work.
“Passport?”
“In my bag.”
“Wallet?”
“In my pockets,”
“And where are your pockets?”
“On my pants-” Kenny paused as he patted his backside where the back pocket of his pants would be but it wasn’t there. In fact, his pants weren’t on at all. He looked over to see Duck holding up his ironed pants with a goofy grin.
“Thanks. Okay, I’m heading out.”
“Okay, bye Dad!” Duck gave an energetic wave to his dad then walked down the stairs. He looked around the house for a minute. Everything had been set up. If those jerks decided to come to his house then he was ready. They wouldn’t get his toy car even though for the life of him he couldn’t figure out why that scary man wanted it. Duck was lost in his thoughts like he usually was until he heard something clatter in the kitchen. Poking his head in, he saw his mom struggling to get the plates back in place.
“Everything okay, Mom?”
“Duckie, what are you doing out of bed?” Katjaa immediately closed the gap between them and pressed the back of her hand to her son’s head. “Your fever seems to have broken but still. You need to rest or else those chickenpox will never leave your system.”
“Mom, they aren’t even visible anymore. I’ve become immune!” Duck declared loudly before a sharp cough overtook his gut.
“Duck!” Katjaa rushed over to get him a cup of water. Duck accepted it and drank heartily.
“Maybe I should tell my boss I can’t make it to work today.”
“No!” Duck blurted out. The last thing he needed was for those evil jerks to try and hurt his mom or for one of his traps to be set off by her instead. Katjaa looked shocked by his loud outburst.
“I’m fine, Mom. In fact, why don’t I fix up your coffee travel mug so you have something tasty and warm coffee on your drive over to work?”
“Zoon,” Katjaa whispered the Dutch word softly then took a deep breath. “Okay, I’m gonna grab my coat. I made you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It just needs a plate.”
“Got it!” Duck gave a huge thumbs up then got to work on the coffee. Everything was going great until he remembered the trap he had set in the closet.
“Wait! Let me get your coat!” Duck rushed past his mom and in front of the closet door.
Katjaa gave a confused smile. “Duckie, I’m already here, I can get my coat.”
“No, I wanna help you out! Come on!”
His insistence wasn’t unusual to Katjaa.
“Alright,” She wandered off to finish getting her travel mug ready. Duck stealthily looked to make sure the coast was clear and his mom couldn’t see the closet. Once he was sure the coast was clear he carefully turned the doorknob. Every second ticked by at a snail’s pace until the door opened and a red boxing glove attached to a metal rod shot out. Duck dodged it just in time and carefully extracted his mom’s favorite coat. Propping the mop handle against the rod he closed the door and went to the kitchen.
"Here’s your coat!”
Katjaa spun around and returned her son’s bright smile. “Thank you, Duckie,” She accepted his help with getting her coat on then pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Okay, I have my phone on me at all times. If you need anything, anything at all, I’m one call away.”
“I know,” Duck nodded with his usual optimism and moved to open the front door. He could see his mom’s hesitation to leave him alone for the day. “I’ll be fine, Mom, promise.” Katjaa took a deep breath and nodded. “Okay,” After giving one final goodbye hug she left and got in her car. Duck watched as she pulled out of the driveway, waving energetically as always until she was out of view. Once he was sure she was gone he took out his walkie-talkie and pressed the button on the side.
“Knox, you there?”
The other side of the line was quiet for a few seconds.
“Knox?”
“I’m here,” Oakley’s voice crackled to life over the walkie-talkie.
“Operation Save Christmas is a go. We’re gonna make sure these jerks leave our neighborhood for good!” Duck declared loudly and waited for his friend’s response but there was none.
“Hello?”
“Hi,”
Oakley’s voice made Duck spin around to see that Oakley had already come over. They pushed some of their long bangs away from their face with a frown.
“Knox!” Duck went over and hugged his friend then pulled back with a determined smile. “Alright, let’s get the last few traps in place.”
Oakley gave a short nod, a flicker of determination shimmering in their eyes.
“Okay, you know how this goes down. We split up and work to get inside that house. We find the car and get the chip then hightail it out of here. Mission complete, understood?” David looked back at his team who gave a short nod.
“How hard can it be to get a toy car from one little brat?” Abel asked as he opened the minivan door.
“You should know better than anyone. You couldn’t even catch the toy car when it was right in front of you,” Lilly noticed Abel’s expression grow bitter at that.
“Whatever,” He cussed her out under his breath and left alongside Joan.
David watched them for a minute then got his gloves on. “I’ll take the front of the house. You walk with that mutt and go around the back.”
Lilly nodded then pulled David in by his jacket collar for a kiss before pushing him away. Without another word she got the husky out of the car and started to walk her casually.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly as she walked down the street until the high-pitched sound of a whistle perked up the husky’s ears. Oakley stayed hidden in the bushes and carefully snuck to another spot to blow on the whistle again. The sound guided the husky over while Lilly was having yet another argument with Abel.
“Listen you idiot, why can’t you do one single thing ri-” Lilly’s sentence was cut short as Oakley used the dog whistle once more, causing the husky to book it towards the sound. Lilly immediately slipped on the ice and was dragged across the ground.
“No! No! Bad dog!” Lilly yelled, unable to stop the husky at all. After a minute or two of being dragged along the icy mud on the sidewalk Lilly was forced to let go of the leash and lay flat in defeat. The husky rushed around the corner where Oakley stayed crouched.
“Shhh, shhh, Arwen, stay still,” Oakley cautiously worked to undo the heavy-duty leash around the husky who was simply happy to see a familiar face. After a couple seconds the leash was off and Oakley threw it over some bushes.
“Okay, go back home. Nurgul is worried about you,”
The husky gave a bark and licked Oakley across the face. The young kid’s happy smile soon faded as the sensation of saliva on their face had sent them into a panicked state. They focused on staying silent and timing their breaths as their heart raced. They couldn’t afford to make a sound and risk getting caught right now. Even though it took a few minutes to finally calm back down, Oakley was glad that they got to help out their friend’s dog. They smiled as the husky rushed back to her home, disappearing round the bend.
“Hello? Lilly? Heh, bitch,” Abel sighed then used the earpiece to talk to Joan. “Joan, how are you doing?”
“I’m approaching the back porch. There doesn’t seem to be any signs of the kid,” She walked forward, unknowingly getting a dangling hook attached to the shoulder of her shirt. Joan continued on until she felt a small tug on her shoulder. Immediately she stopped in her tracks and spun around wildly. She kept looking around this way and that, trying to figure out if something had happened to her or if it was her imagination. As she continued searching the invisible wire that was attached to the hook slowly turned the valve of the backyard hose that the other end of the wire was connected to. Joan continued to spin this way and that until she spotted the clear string. The wheels of curiosity turned in her mind and without thinking twice she grabbed hold of the string and tugged. Suddenly Joan was hit with a cold rush of water from the hose. Her frantic yelps could be heard over the comms as she struggled to block out the hose only for a second one to burst to life shooting  cold water up her backside.
“Joan? Joan? Damn it!” Abel grumbled then walked forward. What the hell was with the uselessness of the women on this team? He continued to stew angrily until he saw a set of red wires with a sign reading: Don’t touch!! Will shock you! A little stick figure being electrocuted stood by the warning.
“Heh, cute,” Abel said with annoyed disdain and was about to try to jump the obstacle when a hand appeared on his shoulder.
“Don’t. Look, the wires aren’t connected to anything.” David pointed out and Abel stared in silent shock as his boss tore out the wires and poles holding them up. “He’s just a kid. He thinks if he puts up some fake traps then it will scare us away.”
“Yeah, I knew that,” Abel nodded and followed David until they reached the front door. Abel was about to try the doorknob until David held him back. He motioned with his eyes to a thin clear wire running upwards from the doorknob.
“We’ll cut this and wait to see if anything happens.” David took out his army knife and sliced through the line. Both men took a step back and waited for a minute but nothing happened.
“See? Just a stupid scared brat,”
“Yeah, yeah you’re right. Don’t know why I was giving him any credit,” Abel stepped forward with David until suddenly they heard something crash through the attic window. A trunk full of books was falling from the sky and catapulting straight towards them. Both men let out high-pitched screams before they were brutally knocked over by the box.
Duck peeked out for a second then pumped his fist when he saw the trap had been successful.
“Arwen is free,”
Duck looked back to see Oakley who’d made their way over to join him.
“It’s working so far! They won’t be in our neighborhood for much longer!” Duck held up his hand and Oakley stared at it for a second before it registered with them what Duck wanted. Slowly Oakley tapped their hand against his, high fiving it. Duck grinned and curled his fingers with Oakley’s, holding onto their hand. The sudden gesture left Oakley shocked for a few seconds but soon they returned Duck’s smile with a softer, more subtle one.
Duck was right. They were gonna win against the bad guys today.

Happy International Non-Binary People’s Day!
Tumblr media
Since it’s International Non-Binary People’s Day to celebrate we thought we’d share some more about our non-binary oc, Oakley!
Oakley is a middle child who has an older sister and a younger brother.
They enjoy exploring the forest and searching for fairies.
Their favorite foods are granola and salad.
They are somewhere on the autism spectrum.
They enjoy cloudgazing.
They show that they care for others through actions more so than words.
They don’t emote that much but once you get to know Oakley you get used to their particular body language.
They are more quick to hide than to fight.
They are more of a day person and like to spend that time in nature.
Oakley’s birthday is April 21st.
Their significant other is Duck.

Hey, how's it going? I really liked your answer to my request regarding a crossover between TWD and Star Wars, sooo... more xD
Of course you can add as many children as you like, but I'm mainly asking for Marlon, Louis, Mitch and Brody:
-Last time you wrote, that actually all of them have a tendency to the dark side, which I totally agree on. But do you think one/some of them will really fall and become Sith?
-After Order 66, what do they do? Do they stay together, do they split up? Will they join the rebellion, become lonely bounty hunters or just disappear and hide somewhere?
-Any changes regarding their lightsabers and fighting style as they grow up? (if they live long enough of course)
-And last but not least - how do each of them die in the end? A fierce battle with some inquisitors? Old and withered, chilling on some rocks and becoming a force ghost? Or something completely different?
As always, thanks for your answers, alsways love reading your stuff ;) Have a nice day!
Ooo! More Jedi au, let's go!
Do any fall and become Sith?
The answer is yes. Everyone assumed it would be Mitch but he actually stays solid on the light side. After Order 66 Brody disappears and Marlon does sometime later which really concerns the group that was with him especially Louis, Sophie, and Ruby to name a few. Others had been taken by the Sith too such as Violet, Prisha, and Minnie. Minnie fell to the dark side fairly quickly being taken after desperately trying to protect Sophie. Marlon and Minnie more fell to the dark side willingly while the others were forced to through intense methods. Violet and Prisha's safety was used against each other and Brody was isolated for a long time and broke. All five become Jedi hunters, hunting those they care about most.
What occurred after Order 66?
Aasim wanted to keep the Jedi Council as intake as possible and suggests they find those who are force sensitive to become Jedi. So he heads out and searches for new potential Jedi. He finds some more strange ones like Renata and Oakley who had been tossed out of the Order for being too eccentric. Mitch stays behind and cares entirely about keeping the young padawans safe and finding Brody. Louis is focused on finding his missing friends both those who fell and those who were rumored to be dead but no one had solid proof. Javi is with the rebellion and some Jedi join him while others like Sarita and Tripp start a new order of gray Jedi. Clementine who was told she was the chosen one for as long as she remembered disappeared after her Jedi master Lee died. She couldn't handle the pressure of the galaxy's expectations on her. As for Brody and Marlon, they are Sith now and trying to come to terms with their new orders. Brody gets in an intense fight with Mitch and also clashes with Ruby. Both try to remind Brody of who she was and what she stood for. Louis also gets into a confrontation with Marlon and later with Violet. He along with Sophie desperately try to get Marlon and Violet back. Willy is the one to try and save Prisha even though everyone says its too dangerous.
Any changes in lightsabers or fighting styles?
For Louis and Mitch, no. They stay as wild and flamboyant as always with their fighting styles and their lightsabers stay the same. As for Marlon he discards his old lightsaber and picks up a red lightsaber. His fighting style switches from a firm, normal grip to a reverse grip depending on his emotional state. He is incredibly easy to read in battle but also extremely dangerous. As for Brody she keeps her yellow lightsaber since her loyalty to the Dark Side is shaky and unstable but she also has a red lightsaber. In battles when she is extremely emotional she recklessly pairs the two lightsabers together. Does it always work? No, but she is extreme when emotional in battle.
How do they die?
Louis- Dies at an old, old age super peaceful and surrounded by his loved ones.
Brody- Also dies at an old age, and becomes a force ghost.
Mitch- Dies at an older age protecting his kids and his friends' kids some of who are all padawans in training.
Marlon- Dies around late 50's from old battle injuries that have finally caught up to him. He gets to have his redemption and a family so while he of course wanted more time he couldn't complain since he got a happier ending than he thought possible for himself.
Thanks for the ask! As always feel free to send in more asks whether it's for this au or if anyone has anymore aus they'd be curious about our inbox is always open.

Haven’s Landing
Summary: Javier and Santiago work to make this new community their home after New Richmond has fallen.
Word Count: 1766
Read on AO3:
It was peaceful and quiet. Something that Javi still was struggling to get used to. It was nice to finally have a community to be a part of again. To have walls and shelter and a constant food source. But a part of him still feared that one day it could all be taken away. It had happened in the past so there was nothing stopping it from happening again.
Javi stared up at the ceiling while Santiago lay beside him, his arm draped over Javi’s chest. His slow, steady breathing helped Javi get out of his spiraling thoughts. It wasn’t helpful to be pessimistic. The best thing to do was to keep working to make Haven’s Landing the safest community it could be. That thought helped settle his anxiety-soaked mind but it also sent waves of nerves spiking all throughout his body. The antsy feeling always drove him nuts and he knew what he had to do.
Carefully, Javi slipped out of bed, wishing to not wake up his husband as he sat up and reached for his undershirt. His eyes stared blankly at the wall as he worked to get his shirt on then the next layer. Double checking his long sleeves, Javi then grabbed the last article of clothing he needed to put on. His fingers meticulously worked to push the buttons through the holes and ensure that his baseball jersey was nice and snug on him.
“Leaving already?”
Santiago’s sleepy voice drew Javi’s gaze back to his husband who was blindly searching for his glasses.
“They're right here, babe,” Javi snatched up the pair of glasses and placed them within Santiago’s hands.
“Thanks,” Santiago pressed a kiss to his husband’s cheek then placed his glasses on. “Heading out to check on the west wall again?”
“Yeah, just to be safe,” Javi fidgeted with one of the buttons on his baseball jersey. His nerves were really making his skin crawl.
“Okay, be safe,” Santiago stole a quick kiss then slipped out of bed. “I’m going to meet with a few of the others about if we can get that school in better shape.” He worked to get his deep blue sweater on then looked back at his husband. He studied Javi’s eyes carefully, noting how exhausted they looked and how the bags underneath hadn’t disappeared yet. “If you want I can visit the graveyard today with Gabe?”
J avi glanced up at that offer then worked to get his boots on. “Yeah, maybe that would be for the best. I’ll let Gabe know before he goes out on the docks today.”
“Alright,” Santiago walked over and scanned the top of the dresser for a moment before spotting the hairbrush. “Maybe you should brush your hair a bit before going, it’s wild right now.”
“But isn’t that what you love about me?” Javi grinned and strode over. “How much of a wild guy I am?”
“You know it,” Santiago winked. “But still, taking care of things like this is important too.”
Javi accepted the brush and ran it through his hair a few times. “There, is it okay now?”
“Perfect,” Santiago shared a kiss with his husband.
“Great, now it's your turn - you have major bed hair. It’s cute though so maybe keep it as is,” Javi ran his fingers through Santiago’s curly hair then ruffled and played with it for a minute.
“Now you’re just making it messer,”
“Yeah, but now you’re extra cute,” Javi smiled then took a step back and grabbed his baseball bat, attaching it to its carrier on his back. “Okay, heading out for real now.”
“Okay, want to meet in the courtyard around lunch?”
“Yeah, it's a date,” Javi strolled forward and started making his way to the door. Santiago watched him for a minute then resumed his task. With a long yawn, he scratched the back of his head to wake up and get the supplies he needed. After he had gathered a pencil, a few sheets of paper, and a stack of three books he was set.
Santiago figured working outside would help motivate and inspire him for the plans he had for the school in Haven's Landing. Before heading out he picked up an apple and stuck it in his mouth then left out the front door. When he emerged from the house he was hit with the cool morning breeze and the promise of warmth from the sun. It was the perfect day to lesson plan. With that motivation, he took a few steps forward and sat in the small courtyard that stood between his house and that of their neighbor. After a minute he spotted said neighbor working on gathering up the fallen leaves that had already shedded from the trees. They always did enjoy fall. Slowly their eyes lifted from the pile of leaves and spotted Santiago.
“Morning, Oakley,” Santiago took the apple out of his mouth and pocketed it for later.
Oakley gave a small nod then went about their day. They were never much of a talker and even after knowing each other for some time now Santiago couldn’t seem to hold that long of conversations with them. He found that to be a bummer since he would love to pick their brain about certain topics but it seemed that Oakley was completely content with keeping their mind a secret to all.
Sidestepping the little bushel of herbs that were growing, Santiago set out to sit on the steps of the library for a bit. It wasn’t a long walk over but he always enjoyed looking at this new community he called home. He watched as children began to play in the public square by the school, noticing certain members of Haven's Landing wandering towards the blacksmith shop to start their morning routine. People were already hard at work in the field where the crops had grown and the people on watch were as diligent as always. All of them wanted to make sure no man or walker got close to any part of the four walls that sheltered this relatively small community. The smell of the sea wafted through the wind and tickled at Santiago’s nose as he sat down on the steps. He was still getting used to that smell.
A happy sigh left his lips while he placed two books onto the stray pieces of paper and rested the pencil beside them. His fingers brushed along the rim of the book, making sure that he didn’t do any damage to the weathered object. It would be a shame to lose any more knowledge than the world already had.
He silently read through the pages of the book as he bit into the apple, letting the juices wander down his throat. In an instant he was lost within his own little world and let time slip through his fingers. Until he heard a sharp bark and glanced up.
A German shepherd happily trotted beside its owner and was ready for whatever the day brought her way.
“Hey there, Mr. Santi,” A girl with short brown hair walked forward, a bow resting across her chest and a quiver on her back. Her hazel eyes shimmered with the same casual joy she had in life as the sun shone brightly on her. The light highlighted her half up half down hairdo and the wisps of hair that curled around her face.
“Good morning, Bethany.” Santiago smiled. “You know you don’t have to call me that.”
“Oh right, sorry,” She kicked her foot across the ground lightly. “Just used to being more formal with teachers I guess.”
“I’m not really a teacher and besides adding “mister” to my name makes me feel old,”
Bethany’s eyes widened. “Oh shit, okay then it won’t happen again,” She gave an apologetic expression then tilted her head to the side when she noticed the supplies by him. “Whatcha working on?”
“Hmm? Oh some potential classes for the school. Are you thinking about joining?”
“Me?” Bethany pointed to herself then shook her head strongly. “Nah, I always sucked at school especially when it came to books. Words always look weird to me, sometimes it's like alphabet soup.” She held onto the bow tightly with her two hands. “You ever remember eating that?”
“I’ve had it once or twice,” Santiago leaned forward; he was more curious about the statements that Bethany had just made, not the soup. “Have you always had trouble reading?”
Bethany pursed her lips together, her brows a bit more tense. “I guess. All I know is that I wasn’t a fan of English class. Anyways, I shouldn’t keep you from your important work. Plus me and Bandit are heading out to check the nearby traps.”
The dog barked happily at the acknowledgment of her name.
“That’s right, Bandit, ready to take down some slinkers?” Bethany asked as she gave the dog lots of pats and attention. The German shepherd’s barks made it clear what her stance was.
“Okay, be sure to take a buddy along with you,” Santiago watched Bethany turn her attention back to him.
“Yep! Sisi already agreed to help me out so I’ll be heading out with them soon.” Bethany finished showering Bandit with praise then bounced lightly on the balls of her feet. “Okay, well have a good rest of your morning,”
“You too,” Santiago called out and Bethany gave a short goodbye wave.
After a moment he returned to his studies and got lost in coming up with a plethora of lesson plans. Looking at the amount of work, Santiago figured he may have gone overboard but better to be over-prepared than under. He always strongly believed that.
He continued his work until he heard a new voice appear a few paces away from him.
“Hey Santi, I finished up dock duty so wanna head over to the graveyard?” Gabe walked forward, double-checking that his beanie hadn't fallen off during his work.
“Yeah. Mind if we drop off some stuff at the house first?” Santiago asked as he got up from his spot.
“Nah, we gotta make a stop for flowers anyway. Can’t visit without them,”
Santiago nodded along and watched as his nephew walked casually beside him. A gentle somberness filled his eyes and was etched into his expression. It always got that way when he visited his lost loved ones.
Santiago made sure not to take too much time at all, dropping off his work supplies then stepping outside the house again. “Alright, ready?” Gabe nodded and took a deep breath. “Yeah, let’s go visit Mari.”
