Tumblr media
It was a known fact to most people that Leona didn't really care for any material value. And you, of all people, couldn't care less if he lost one of his belongings - jewelry, clothes, or even his money because he could replace them all. Living life as the second prince of Sunset Savanna has its perks, but honestly? Leona wouldn't even bat an eye at it because he longed to be recognized and prove that even if he was only the second prince, he was a worthy leader regardless of his method.
Deep down, Leona also loved and craved something - the one he would fight tooth and nail to reach, even if it was out of bounds or everyone saying how it was impossible. That one happened to be you, the standing older siblings to the students living in Ramshackle Dorm, despite having opposite views from each other.
"Leona, come on. I told Yuuka that I am not staying over Savanaclaw today!" Leona lay down on his side, your back pressed against his chest. Hands gently pried the clingy lion with arms around your waist and his head nuzzling your shoulder. As if his arms weren't enough, his tail wrapped itself around your leg comfortably as the two of you stayed in the comfort of his bed.
"And Yuuta asked me to taste some of his food later. It's not like I would be gone for a week."
"Denied. He has Herbivore #1 & #2 with him, plus their idiot friends. Stay with me instead."
"What did I deserve to end up with a clingy boyfriend like you?" You grab hold of his cheek and playfully pinched it and instead of getting angry - seeing your brows knitted tightly together and lips puckered in a pout made the lion laugh.
"Didn't you say something else when you confessed to me?" You could feel his chuckle rumbling on your back despite you wearing one of his thick hoodies, and hearing him right next to your ear sent shivers down your spine. "Would you like to remember what you said?"
"... that's embarrassing already." Leaning back into the warmth of his arms, you covered your eyes with his arm from the light of the sunset and sighed. "This isn't fair. You are still holding it against me!"
'it's because I want to hold on to your promise.' While you keep trying to get out of his grasp, your words go in from one ear to another as Leona looks at you, lost in his own world. You two were opposites when you first met, but an invisible magnet pulled you together, and Leona isn't a firm believer of fate.
"... you like me?"
"Ah, if you don't like it. Just pretend this didn't happen."
"No, wait! It's just that ... I know I am less rich or smart than most people here. I can't even use magic, for goodness sake! You are so out of my league. How can I stand next to you?"
"It doesn't matter because I like you because you are you."
"Leo, are you going to let me go now?" By the time he was brought back to reality, you were facing him with a worried expression as you held his cheeks in your hands. Leona felt drawn into your gaze, an irresistible force pulling him closer to the love he'd been seeking all his life.
"Is this okay?"
"It's more than okay. I don't need anything - I just need you, and you can have all of me."
"... don't hesitate to take me away."
"Why are you making me look like an obssessive crush?"
With one swoop, the lion covered both of you under his covers and held you closer to his chest, his chin resting above your head.
"Nah, the herbivores can take care of themselves. Just stay with me." Everything fell silent after that, and Leona couldn't help but smirk in victory when he felt you relax in his hold - accepting your defeat.
"I hate you."
"I love you too, (Name)."
Leona doesn't care about anything of material value, but he will always care for you, the one who taught him how to love.

i'll dry the villain's tears
t h e r o s e r e d t y r a n t ' s m o t h e r
you get reincarnated into a role that became the breaking point of the villain's story and you, be it an unwillingness to cause them harm or a desire to survive, must work hard to make sure they grow into a better (or at least safer) person.
You had died.
at least, you think you did.
It was hard to remember much.
Blinding lights, fading screams, it all felt so fuzzy and distant that you could hardly even remember your old face. The new one staring back at you was strange and foreign and perfect; it was almost like you were staring into the eyes of a doll. You pressed a well manicured nail to your cheek, feeling the soft skin give underneath your touch. So this is what she looked like. Bright red hair and piercing silver eyes, Riddle's mother made for an intimidating figure. You could only imagine how wicked she would look when angry despite her pretty looks.
You let out a soft sigh, leaned back against your chair, and attempted a smile at your reflection. The muscles around your cheeks creaked in protest at the attempt and gave you little more then a grimace.
"Not one for smiling, are you Mrs. Rosehearts?"
Well, whatever sickness that had overtaken the former Mrs. Rosehearts seemed to have passed and you no longer needed constant supervision from whoever Riddle had called for. Speaking of, where was Mr. Rosehearts? Surely her husband must've been worried sick once he had heard his wife had collapsed.
After a few moments of pondering, idly rummaging through drawers and inspecting every nook and cranny of what you assumed to be your new bedroom, you quickly discovered there was only a wardrobe for one. How strange. As you continued digging through your new and incredibly modest clothes, your hunt for clues was quickly interrupted by a sharp knock at your door. You dropped everything and let out a quiet shriek, feeling what felt like your heart quickly jumping in to your throat at the surprised new guest. Imwardly, you had to remind yourself that you were in fact, not snooping! This was your stuff now and could look through it all you liked. Quickly patting down your clothes and pinning back your frazzled hair, you attempted to compose yourself and cleared your throat, quietly acknowledging their presence.
"Uhm - yes! You may come in."
Whoever stood out your door seemed almost hesitant, waiting at the door long enough for the silence to slowly grow awkward, before the door let out a small click and they entered.
It was Riddle.
"I finished my lesson for the afternoon." Riddle spoke quietly, eyes never leaving the space behind your head, as if too nervous to even look at you, "If you would allow me, I'd like to take a small break to rest my eyes."
Here it was! Your moment! You had dreamed of this since the beginning and you could finally, finally make a difference and fix the broken relationship between him and his mother!! You eagerly turned towards him, feeling your skirt pick up in your excitement and ducked down, balancing your weight on the balls of your feet and lowering yourself down to his level.
"Actually, Riddle, how would you like it if we took a break together. I made us some tea!" You smiled, eyes crinkling in delight, "And then after that we-"
"No, thank you."
Eh.
What a quick response!!!!
Blinking past the surprise, you were startled to notice that Riddle had taken a few steps back, his eyebrows knitted together in what almost looked like confusion. You could feel the apprehension and barely disguised fear roll off of him in waves as he opened his mouth to continue.
"It's not time for a tea and I'd much rather get back to my studies as soon as possible.."
Yes, you supposed it was rather late in the evening for a tea time but it couldn't be that bad to take a small break to unwind after a tiring afternoon, surely! Bu then again, you realized, Riddle's mother always enforced a strict schedule. There was no time for snack breaks or play time, everything was chosen for him down to the very last millisecond of his day. Breaking this trend would not be an easy task. Mrs. Rosehearts made sure of that.
"Ah, you're right! Silly me..." You took this moment to reach out, intending to push back a stray hair from Riddle's face but he flinched. It was hardly noticeable and honestly, if you weren't down at his level and painfully aware of every twitch and fidget, you wouldn't have noticed but still, you felt your heart break a little more.
"Yes... It must be the fever." You sighed out, lowering your hand before slowly putting it back in your lap, "I must still feel tired after being in bed the past few days. Being stuck in my room must've made me a little mad."
Riddle made no effort to respond, only slowing raising his head. When his silver eyes met yours, you smiled and kept his gaze, "Would you do me a favor then, Riddle? I'm feeling terribly lonely and would like the company... however," You had to give him the option, "if you'd rather end your studying for the day and choose yourself what you'd like to do until your bedtime, you're more then welcome to."
As much as you wanted to quickly mend the relationship between the two of you, you knew you could not rush it. Years of abuse and tyranny do not go away with a single good deed and the more you tried to force it, the more you guessed he would push away.
Riddle paused and searched your eyes, looking for any signs of this being a test. He seemed almost hesitant to even ponder the choices before him as if he had never made his own decision before - with his mother's blessing no less - and wasn't eager to start now.
"I won't be upset, Riddle. You c-"
"I would like to have tea with you, please."
You mentally fist bumped the air, tears of success running down your face. Progress! This was progress, right? Willingly getting him to break his rigid schedule was already a huge undertaking but getting him to choose to spend time with you? You could practically hear the angels singing in your head.
Getting him to slowly and comfortably break his schedule was one thing but his diet? That was a whole other trauma to fight and you didn't know where to start. Unlike Riddle's mother, you weren't a doctor. Your knowledge of what was healthy and what was not and how to balance calories was never something you were taught past the very basics. Smugly, you figured she wasn't any good at it either so really, it could only get better.
It started with little things, replacing what kinds of ingredients you used and portions and the like and you spent many a nights on Magicam, researching food trends and advice from dieticians and other mothers. Anonymously, of course.
If Riddle noticed the change in his diet, he made no attempt to question you about it, probably enjoying whatever you were doing enough not to bring it up. You were his mother after all and although the dinner table was still quiet between the two of you, it was a more comfortable silence as if you were both too worried to break it. Watching him eat was also a treat. You had always thought Riddle was a pretty child, but to see sparks of life flicker behind his trained expression was a victory you always cherished. Sometimes it was small things, like him kicking his feet or the shock of trying a new taste. It was precious, watching him slap his palm to his face as he jumped in his chair, eyes practically tearing up at the taste of pepper of all things.
And then, one day, you decided that perhaps it was time. A strawberry tart.
You paced in your bedroom for days, practically digging holes into the floor as you plotted your next big move. This moment was perhaps the most important of all the other events that had happened in Riddle's life and you knew it was going to be a real big hurdle to cross.
"Riddle?"
He perked up slightly from his desk at the sound of your voice and turned to look at you. His eyes were brighter now and they no longer had the same fear they once had. His gaze could almost be described as affectionate.
"Yes?"
"I'm going to be out for awhile. not for too long mind, but I have something very important I need to do. I'm sure you don't mind if I leave you to yourself for a short while?" You gave him a sheepish smile as you made your way to the front door, your hand already reaching for the handle. As much as you wanted to do this and get it over with, you could still feel the nerves biting at your ankles.
Riddle nodded his head, his red hair practically bouncing with the movement, before returning to his studies while you closed the front door behind you, breath heavy in your throat. Days of planning were all coming together. You could feel the sweat building up and running down your neck as you took a few simple breathes to calm your racing heart.
Some might consider it obsessive but you had carefully studied That particular bakery and it's foot traffic to ensure that nobody else would be in the store to witness what was about to happen for the past two weeks. In disguise, you had watched and written down the hours there was a slow lull in visitors from out in the streets, careful not to attract any sort of attention. It's not like you were planning anything nefarious! It's just that... the thought of anyone witnessing the verbal smack down you were about to receive was almost too much. But you had to do this. For Riddle, for yourself, and because you really, really, really wanted to try one of Clover Bakery's sweets.
It was time.
"Welcome in! Welcome to Clover Bakery! I'll be right with you in a moment!" A feminine voice sounded like it was in the back as the door to the bakery slowly chimed behind you, as if it was the death knell, signaling your demise. You trained your breath, in and out, and wiped your sweaty palms on the back of your skirt, willing yourself to calm down. You had to be strong! Trey and both his parents deserved a proper apology, even if technically you weren't the one who offended them. You had to fix this mess and you couldn't do it half assed!
"Sorry about that! We just finished the new batch of - oh."
Trey's mother was in front of you.
Trey's Mother was in front of you.
"I..." Your heart felt like it was going to give out. "I've come to apologize."
That obviously is not what she was expecting and judging by the widening of her eyes and the tightening of her posture, she didn't seem entirely willing to accept it but she stood there and didn't seem unwilling to hear you out so in your haste, you tripped over your words in eagerness to continue.
"Please," You lowered your head and gaze, nearly buckling under the stress, "at least hear me out. What I did - to you, your husband, your son, to Riddle - It was unacceptable."
You gulped and began the part you had rehearsed in front of your mirror. This part, while not necessarily the truth, would make the most sense.
"When I couldn't find Riddle in the room where I left him and the window opened, I panicked. I had always been very strict with Riddle and perhaps that's where I erred, where he thought that the only choice he had to enjoy an inch of freedom was to sneak out while I was unaware, So, when I couldn't not find him and found him with strangers, people I had never met before and knew very little of, I panicked."
"But what I ended up doing," Something wet fell from your eyes, "I hurt him. I hurt Riddle. I - I think that's what snapped me out of whatever idiotic beliefs I had. He wouldn't talk to me, he couldn't even meet my eyes-"
"I understand,"
Blinking past the tears, you looked up, watching as Trey's mother let out a long and weary sigh, "I may not forgive you for what you did yet, I can see you obviously mean what you're saying."
"You can?"
"Look at you. You're shaking like a leaf, you look nothing like the woman that came screaming in here for her son. Whatever happened between then and now obviously changed things."
You watched as she ducked behind the counter and wrapped something up in a small container and gestured for you to open your hands.
"Here," She closed your hands around it, "It's a strawberry tart. Those were Riddle's favorite right? I'm sure you can help mend whatever happened with something like this. It's on the house. Just... next time Riddle wants to play, let him. My son has been beside himself with worry ever since."
You held the tart close to your chest like she had just handed you the most precious thing you've ever owned and nodded your head, your once formerly primed and proper hair falling down your shoulders in wave from your excitement, "Thank you! Thank you so much... I will do whatever I can now. I won't make the same mistake again."
"Go on," You smiled, "Open it."
As soon as you returned home, you eagerly called for Riddle to join you at the family table, nearly tripping over your heels in your excitement as you carefully placed the boxed strawberry tart down. Riddle watched your expression carefully, eyeing the concealed treat from the corner of his eye. As much as he's enjoyed the past few months, this was a huge step forwards. It was almost as if he was scared that what he thought was going to happen wouldn't. What if this was an elaborate scheme? What if this was a big final test and he failed? What if-
"It's ok, Riddle," You reassured him with a low voice, pushing the small box closer to him as his eyes snapped to meet yours, "It's something really good, I promise." With a nervous look, he nodded.
You could hear his barely contained sniffles as he slowly began untying the ribbon, stopping periodically to wipe at his eyes with his sleeve, before the box opened and in the center was
the most beautiful strawberry tart he has ever seen.
His small sniffles soon erupted into wails, high pitched and heart wrenching as he sat there in his chair, his hands still in the air as his little body was wracked with tears. You couldn't hold back your own crying as you brought Riddle's small frame to your chest and hugged him tightly as he cried and cried and cried in your arm. His little fingernails dug crescents into your skin as he kept tugging you closer and closer, unwilling for there to be an space between you and him.
"My darling, Riddle," You sniffled back a tear as you dug your face into his red hair, feeling him hiccup and sob as you did the same, "I'm sorry you had to wait so long."

-Rollo's Angelic Obsession-
(This story is from Rollo's perspective during the events of the visit to Nobel Bell College. I only know information from the English server story and events so sorry if anything is terribly out of character. This fic is cannon for my female Yuu-sona, but I do just call them Yuu in the story. Yuu uses she/her pronouns. Hope you enjoy! TW: Rollo is obsessive and Delulu with a major crush on Yuu. Found the banner pictures in a post by @ raven-at-the-writing-desk, they are not mine. I got the event book 1 transcripts from the Wiki, and the book 3 transcripts from @ kanasmusings!)
It was disgusting. The headmaster of Night Raven called to inform us that his group of ten had grown to thirteen, not including the chaperone. I had requested Malleus Draconia so I could execute my plan, but to add two more students to the group was borderline infuriating. I didn’t even have the time to see how powerful these other students were, or who they were. I had no idea if they would be an issue or if it would be better to rid the world of them like the others. The only information the headmaster gave on them was that they counted as one student, and that one of them was magicless. That last note made me somewhat hopeful.
The portal lit up and all of the students stepped through. I recognized each and every one of them, so I assumed the new ones were tucked behind the others. I even recognize the chaperone. None of them were a threat. None of them were pure. They all would burn.
“I've been expecting you,” I stepped out of the shadows, vice president and aide on my left and right, “ Esteemed guests from Night Raven College, welcome to Noble Bell College.”
Mozus Trein, the chaperone, spoke in a tone much like my own, “Judging by your uniform, you must be the student the headmage mentioned.”
“That's right,” I put my handkerchief over my mouth for a moment before speaking again, “My name is Rollo Flamme. I serve as the student council president here.”
Riddle Rosehearts was the next to speak, “Oh, interesting. Our school doesn't have an independent student council, but it sounds like you all do.”
I removed the cloth from my lips, “Indeed. And while it may sound presumptuous, one could call it the face of our school. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
Idia Shroud’s voice was shrill with surprise or fear, “Ack! Immediate encounter with strangers!”
Azul Ashengrotto seemed equally annoyed and used to the outburst, “Isn't the whole point of this social to meet strangers?”
I could hear some of the freshmen mumbling to themselves, about me undoubtedly. I pressed on, “This is our vice president, and this is our aide. When they heard they could meet with such an esteemed group, they dropped everything and came running. The entirety of Noble Bell College welcomes you. Our school is small compared to yours, and you may find it lacking in some ways, but we beg your indulgence.”
Trein looked like he could almost smile, “How courteous. You have impeccable manners for someone so young.”
Deuce Spade whispered to Silver, a guard of Malleus Draconia, I kept speaking, “We couldn't allow you to keep hauling your luggage around, of course. Let me show you to your rooms. I'm afraid it's a bit of a walk. We can use it as an opportunity to get better acquainted, though.”
I began leading the group forward as Idia Shroud made another winey comment. They were infuriating, and I hadn’t even gotten a glance at the unexpected visitors. They all deserved death.
Azul Ashengrotto made his way to the front with me, “So you're a junior. I imagine it's quite an honor being student council president, considering there can only be one in the whole school. I'm sure your academic performance is also superb and will guarantee you a promising future.”
I tried not to grit my teeth, “Noble Bell simply has a smaller student body. I can hardly compare to those of you from the great Night Raven College.”
Ashengrotto coated his words in flattery, just as we had done with their headmaster, “Please, you needn't be so humble or formal. Why, you're technically my upperclassman! Everyone at my school would be overjoyed to acquaint themselves with such a fine individual.”
I hummed as if amusing the idea, “All right, as you wish. I won't stand on ceremony so much.”
Ashengrotto got involved in a side conversation with Shroud. Leaving me to do nothing but move forward and suppress the urge to strike them down where they stood.
“Ah, but where are my manners? I've gotten ahead of myself,” Ashengrotto pulled himself back to me, “Apologies for the belated introduction. I'm-”
“Introductions won't be necessary,” I waved it off, bringing my handkerchief back to my lips, “I already know who all of you are. You're Azul Ashengrotto, housewarden of Octavinelle and a merman from the Coral Sea,” I kept going, “And you're Idia Shroud, housewarden of Ignihyde and affiliated somehow with the Shroud family. And you-!” I quickly kept myself from flying off the handle at the sight of that Fae, “You are Malleus Draconia, scion of the ruling fae in Briar Valley and one of the top five mages in the world. Correct?”
I felt sick as he smiled, “Indeed, I am Malleus Draconia.”
Sebek Zigvolt butted into the conversation, “Of course the great Malleus would be known even in such a tiny burg!”
I lowered my handkerchief once more, “You are Sebek Zigvolt, and you hail from the same land as Malleus. The one next to you is Silver. And over there chatting with our vice president is Riddle Rosehearts, housewarden of Heartslabyl, Rook Hunt, vice housewarden of Pomefiore, Jamil Viper, vice housewarden of Scarabia, Ruggie Bucchi, Deuce Spade, and Epel Felmier. I thoroughly perused the documents Mr. Crowley so kindly sent, you see.”
Ashengrotto’s eyes were almost wide, “It's like privacy's a foreign concept to that man-”
Shroud gave me a dirty look, unacceptable, “That could get you sued in this day and age.”
Silver almost smiled, “You must have a very good memory, to recall so many different names.”
“It's simply because I was eager to meet such talented mages,” And that’s when I saw them, “But who have we here? You two there. Might I ask your names?”
The first unknown student was a monster. A tiny mythical beast that resembled a cat with fiery blue ears. A familiar that was almost pure magic and fur. Disgusting, “I'm the great Grim, future great mage!”
But the one standing beside him was something else. A woman. Her hair looked silky like a festival scarf. Only one of her eyes was covered by her bangs, but the other one looked like it had seen so much, yet so little. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It made sense that she couldn’t use magic. She was an angel. I couldn’t help but wonder what the school had prepared for her to wear later.
When she spoke, it made the bell seem like nothing in comparison, “I’m Yuu. Prefect of Ramshackle Dorm. Nice to meet you Rollo.”
I loved the sound of my name on her lips, “Ah, you must be the student attendants Mr. Crowley mentioned,” I tried not to smile, “He said you couldn't use magic. I certainly wasn't expecting you to bring a familiar.”
“A familiar-?” The wretched thing spoke, “Wait, are you talkin' about me?! It's the other way around! I'm the boss, and Yuu's my hench-human!”
“I hate to say it,” She rolled her eyes at the creature as she whispered, it was almost as if she had been speaking to me alone, “But at this point I almost can’t debate that.”
“Heh, what a dependable companion you have,” My sarcasm was almost indistinguishable from my normal speech. I let my voice soften as I moved closer to the magic-less angel presented to me, I almost let a smile slip for her alone, “Yuu, I imagine it must be taxing living among mages all the time. I entreat you to forget about school while you're here and enjoy a moment of respite in Fleur City. And I hope the rest of you will enjoy the social.”
Her eyes seemed to widen. She looked shocked at my words. She must be so used to brash animals that it sounded odd to be treated properly.
“I actually-”
Malleus Draconia didn’t hear her and spoke over her. I wish I could have killed him in that very second, “I'm truly grateful for your hospitality.”
I moved my handkerchief to cover my scowl, “Think nothing of it.”
Tumblr media
I stood by the statue of the Righteous Judge while the pests changed in a building nearby. I had made sure that there was a separate space for Yuu to change. I couldn’t let any of those monsters see the angel in her purest form. Her exposed body would be a gift from the saints above. A gift that I had to keep from being tainted though those devils that called themselves her classmates.
The brats talked loud enough for me to hear them. It was all I could do to keep from lighting the building on fire with them inside, “All this goofing around-”
Trein approached me, “Hello, Flamme.”
I put on my ‘show’ once more, “Ah, Professor Trein. What can I do for you?”
“I wanted to thank you for your generous hospitality. Clothing is an embodiment of the culture it comes from and can provide us with a glimpse into different time periods. This is a fine opportunity for my student to get a hands-on history lesson,” Trein was respectable, for a mage.
“Please, think nothing of it,” It was easier to show him hospitality, “Perhaps we should have arranged attire for you as well, though. That was a grave oversight on our part.”
“It's quite alright, I assure you. I don't need the other teachers poking fun at me for dressing like the students when I get back.”
I hummed, “Sounds like you're on friendly terms with the rest of your faculty.”
He released a dry laugh, “Hardly. They're a raucous group and a constant source of embarrassment.”
We broke into humble laughter. I watched as the brats came out, commenting on how me and their professor ‘got along’.
The familiar came bursting out of the building, laughing, “I'm all done changin' too,” He turned towards the building his master was changing in, “Whaddaya think, Yuu? Isn't my getup way more stylin' than yours?”
“I don’t know about that,” She looked amazing.
The others on the council had scrambled to find female festival clothes for her, and I hated that they couldn’t do better. It wasn’t nearly extravagant enough. Dark blue high-heeled boots, thin black pants, a flowing black and purple asymmetric skirt, multi-blue corset with hot pink lacing, a flowy off-white shirt, bracelets and golden bangles, and a silk chiffon scarf in a lavender color that flowed off her head. She was a saint.
The familiar ran over to her, “Oh, you think you can go toe to toe with me? Don't let one set of cool threads go to your head!”
She smiled and scanned herself over, “I’m just glad it wasn’t too extravagant. Those extreme duds might look fancy, but I prefer something simple and somewhat practical. And this fits the bill.”
She was right. A simpler ensemble let her natural beauty shine though.
Sebek Zigvolt scoffed, “You're both equally unbecoming.”
Trein looked like he could almost smirk, “Goodness, don't you all make a striking ensemble.”
Rosehearts smiled as he dusted off his outfit, “The clothes have a very classical design, I note.”
I removed my gaze from Yuu and addressed the group, “I believe they're patterned after designs that are over 500 years old. Supposedly people in those days had a tradition of wearing new clothes and shoes on festival days. And the outfits grew brighter and more elaborate as the years went on. People would emulate those in prominent positions, such as nobles, royalty, merchants, knights- Which led to the outfits you're wearing now. There were simpler styles that rose to oppose this trend. Though more people gravitate towards the extravagant style in the modern age.”
Ruggie Bucchi was checking himself out, “I getcha. Everyone likes getting fancied up, even if it's once a year.”
Rook Hunt’s accent was almost insulting, “It must have been quite exciting for everyone. I can tell this festival was beloved then as it is now.”
I couldn’t help but mutter into my handkerchief, “Indeed. More's the pity.”
Zigvolt noticed my slip up, “Hm? Did you say something?”
“No, nothing at all.”
Tumblr media
I had been tasked with visiting all the Night Raven groups between duties, and I had the misfortune of never running into Yuu. However, the Topsy-Turvy Festival was a mandatory event for all students and chaperones from the visiting schools. It was the last bit of normalcy before I burnt the magic away from this world.
I locked my eyes on Yuu and approached the Night Raven group, “There you are, Night Raven College.”
Trein did his own kind of smile, “Hello, Flamme. Are you here to watch the festival as well?”
“Yes, this is part of my duties as the Student Council President,” I realized that it may benefit me to stay closer to the group, ‘keep your enemies close’ and whatnot, “May I take this opportunity to sit with you? I’d like to hear about your experiences, too.”
Ashengrotto put on that sleazy grin, “Yes, you’re very welcome to! Please have a seat.”
The fae questioned his classmate, “There’s not enough space, correct? What will we do?”
He smiled as if it was obvious, “Simple. We let Grim sit on Yuu’s lap instead.”
Zigbolt seemed shocked, but Trein only nodded, “Yes, that will do. I’m interested in hearing from Noble Bell College students, too, so please feel free to join us.”
“No way!” The ungrateful monster yowled, “I’m not sitting on Yuu’s lap!”
Shroud smiled creepily, “How about you sit on my lap instead?”
“That grin’s freaking me out,” Grim pushed Yuu onto the bench, “Sit on the chair properly, Yuu! Imma make space for myself.”
I took advantage of it all and sat beside Yuu, “Pardon me. I’ll be taking this seat, then.”
I tuned out the others and focused on Yuu as she watched the mages and the festival goers. There was a slight sign of joy, but she remained mostly neural. She did make a point to try and hold in some laughter at Zigbolt’s outbursts.
“Hello, everyone! All eyes and ears on me, please!” The same Jester I had seen every time the festival came into town spoke, it seemed he was leading this year, “Come one, come all. Forget about all your work and worries for today, and let’s enjoy the festival. Welcome to the Topsy-Turvy Festival!”
“Topsy-Turvy Festival?” The familiar spoke. Ignorant as a newborn baby, “That sounds weird. Will everyone be upside-down or something?”
I covered my mouth with my handkerchief, “No, he’s just talking about the participants in general. It’s the one day people get to live their lives without titles or status. The weak can become strong, anyone can pretend to be king, so on and so forth.”
Negative emotion coursed through me as I realized Malleus Draconia had sat on the other side of Yuu, and now he was speaking, “Ah, so ranks are put aside for today?”
I grit my teeth behind the cloth I held, “Yes, that’s right. That’s why everyone wears masks for the festival.”
Past Malleus Draconia was Ashengrotto, “I see. I think I understand the appeal now. You get to live as freely as you want today.”
“I saw lots of stalls selling masks, too. There’s a kind of romance to hiding your identity behind a mask,” I swear Shroud was smiling.
Grim spoke up and pointed at some performers, “Everyone looks like they’re having lots of fun!”
The Jester kept going as performers kept prancing, “It’s our long-awaited Topsy-Turvy Festival! But let’s not forget that it’s the ‘Kindly Bell Ringer’ who loved this festival the most!”
Yuu and the familiar spoke in unison, although Yuu’s voice was quiet – as if it was for me alone to hear, “‘The Kindly Bell Ringer’?”
Malleus Draconia spoke again, “Oh, did you not know?”
The little beast was the only one to respond, “Nope, I didn’t!”
Ashengrotto rolled his eyes, “You didn’t even bother researching about the City of Flowers, Grim?”
“I’m not interested in anything except for the food.”
Shroud smiled, “I’ll praise your straightforwardness.”
I then tuned out, I had heard this story a million times. While I did love the tale, it was hard to stand it being said from the lips of a jester and his ragdoll puppet. I but in for a moment to tell the animal what a ventriloquist was, but then I resumed just watching Yuu’s reactions out of the corner of my eye.
Tumblr media
The Night Raven students had turned the festival into a horror show of magical fireworks and mage tricks. It was despicable. Although it did give me a moment alone with Yuu while we said on the Night Raven bench. She was watching the fireworks with a neutral smile. Her lack of ‘joy’ made my heart beat loudly in my chest. Part of me was afraid she was going to hear it over the commotion of the festival.
I tried to make conversation, “Mages are quite a handful, don’t you think?” She turned to me, her eyes were mesmerizing, “It must be difficult for you to keep up with noisy mages who don’t understand the severity of it all. It would be nice if magic didn’t exist so we could avoid all this fuss. Don’t you agree?”
Her eyes widened, but she just chuckled, “Yeah right. I’m used to it by now.”
I was almost speechless, I couldn’t keep the horror from my face, “You’re ‘used to it’? Oh you poor thing! I can’t blame you for becoming numb to the absurdity after spending everyday practically swimming in it. Mages will use magic to deceive people around them. They cloud the eyes of the righteous. Truely how vexing. But rest assured. This kind of world will soon vanish.”
She froze, “Excuse me? What is that supposed to mean?”
As soon as the words left her lips, her familiar called out, “Yuu! Stop standing around and spacing out over there. Behold! I’ll show you the Great Grim’s Special Golden Fire!” The monster sent out a spray of golden fireworks.
I used the distraction to slip away. Maybe she didn’t understand right now because she had become accustomed to the horrors of magic, but one day she would. She was too pure. She was an angel. She would be saved from the dirt and grime of magic once it all burned away.
Then she would be mine.

Soft Kissing
Jamil x Reader
You joked suddenly about making out with Jamil, but he seemed a bit intrigued by that.
genre: fluff, drabble
reader is genderneutral (no pronouns in this)
warnings: none? light french kissing though!
Tumblr media
“We should make out… kidding!”
Jamil glanced at you, the two of you were in the library simply studying when you randomly popped that joke out after talking about a couple.
Now there you were, awkwardly sitting there and regretting all your life choices as he stared at you. Welp, there you went messing everything up again, letting your weakness spill to your crush.
“Sure,” he said, still eyeing you.
Now you were bewildered. He seemed so calm about the situation too? When you finally looked at him, he only looked away, pretending like nothing happened.
“Really?” you questioned. “You’re not like questioning me or anything? Not even an insult?”
Closing his book, Jamil sighed. “I’d rather not do this in a public space, let’s head out somewhere else.”
Then, he grabbed your hand and led you away. Soon enough your fingers intertwined as he brought you into an empty classroom. You still couldn’t believe this was happening, and all so fast.
He propped you to sit on the table as he stood over you, holding your waist, and a faint blush spread across his cheeks as he nervously looked to the ground. “Well don’t stare like an idiot, do something, you started this.”
“W-well I said kidding!” you retorted, a blush wildly spreading across your face.
“So do you not want to do this then?”
“That’s not what I said.”
A small smile spread across Jamil’s face, his blush growing even more. “Then, is it okay if I go for it?”
You nodded and stared into his red eyes while he finally looked back. Very slowly, he pushed his lips against yours, cupping one side of your face with his hand, stroking your cheek ever so slightly with his thumb. Jamil never had experience in relationships… much less kissing, but he was doing a wonderful job, it was slow and steady, calculated one might say.
A tongue poked against your lips, which made you open your mouth as he licked your tongue ever so lightly. Opening your eyes a bit, you could see him staring at you and watching your reactions.
Pulling back he kept eyes locked on you. Some things were still on his mind so he asked, “Are we considered friends at this point?”
“I… don’t think so…” you said, getting flustered and nervous now that he may reject.
“Okay,” he stated, pecking your lips softly. “Then, let’s date.”
Nodding, you slowly kiss him back and wrapped your arms around him.

- ̗̀May I have some TWST boys with their GN!S/O who treats Grim like their baby (◍•ᴗ•◍) you can choose whoever characters you wanna put! I don't mind!
My baby, our baby.
     ▸SFW.          ▸GN! Reader .          ▸Req?: Si~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
៶𖥨. He knew you and Grim were close. But not as close for a parent-child bond?
៶𖥨. Albeit it just made him fall even more in love with you by how attentive and caring you are for the feline. He’s always in a daze when he Watches you and Grim interact.
៶𖥨. He even gives you tips and tricks that he has used on the others he’s raised, and it works like a charm!
Grim’s stubborn and not listening?
Lure him in with bribery and that he won’t get it until he listens fufu~
៶𖥨.Although this Fae doesn’t mind how parently you are to Grim, he does suggest that you two get alone time too.
You can literally go a day without Grim and vice versa. Please, you’ll both live! Ace and Deuce will take him- totally- he didn’t blackmail them or anything…
៶𖥨. But other than that, he does love playing family with you two~ it gives him an excuse to prep family dinners more often!.. Just- pray. Believer or not… pray and write a will while you’re at it..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⌁. Doesn’t like the sharing of attention… well, it was okay at first. But then it got to be too much.
He treats it like a competition.
And yes, you do give him plenty of attention, he’s just stubborn and greedy. He needs to understand that Grim is your baby and that’s final.
⌁. Grim is also a bit against your relationship with Floyd— that eel keeps tricking and getting him trouble!
⌁. Step dad and step child going head to head type beat.
⌁. Floyd is subtle when you’re not looking with his threats to that cat, but said cat is loud with it and points out what he’s doing only for you to turn and see Floyd busy with something and quirk a brow at Grim.
Floyd shoots a quick grin in Grim’s direction and then go back yo feigning innocence.
It don’t stop there!
⌁. Grim is laying on your lap being petted? He wants to take over.
You’re feeding Grim by hand? That’s his spot now. And in his words; sharing is caring and you agreed much to Grim’s dismay.
Bathing Grim? He tried to replace when you weren’t looking, but he just got bashed in the face with a Loofah while you sported a glowing blush and a hissing Grim blasting fireballs instead..
⌁. That was not a good idea…. This only resorted in you giving Grim more attention in comforting after what he witnessed.
Those innocent feline eyes are forever tainted.
⌁. Jade teases him about this attempt. Jade knows he could do better than this. I guess it is true that love makes you stupid.
Bah! Jade is the stupid one, he don’t know what he’s talking about.. well— maybe- just a tad?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𒀭He finds it amusing and joins in as treating Grim as his own once the two of you are official.
𒀭 He loves how caring you are to the talking feline!
𒀭 He dotes and spoils Grim like no tomorrow.
𒀭 You can’t afford the Mostro sea fish special? Did you forget who you’re married to?? Yes, you heard that right. He tells and brags to everyone about his apparent spouse and child. But Jamil is right behind him to explain that he has yet to actually get married when people look confused and panicked about missing some wedding— especially Kalim’s!
𒀭 Grim is baffled by how far Kalim takes it but has no complaints since he has an unlimited amount of tuna, new collars and anything else he could ever wantbecause of it.
𒀭 And you; absolutely embarrassed but yet, glowing in pride and happiness at your newfound title.

Ramshackle Dorm never felt so warm and cozy as it did now.
In the dorm’s lounge, your friends were either sprawled upon the cushions of the couch or lying on the floor, various textbooks, notes, and blazers were used as makeshift pillows. On the couch, you spied Epel sleepily snuggling into Jack’s stomach, while Sebek vainly tried to appear aloof and regal even while he was sleeping. While his fellow couch-mates looked rather comfortable, the half-fae sat upright, his arms crossed over his chest. Meanwhile, you spotted your Heartslabyul friends, Ace and Deuce, collapsed onto their textbooks and notes. When they awoke, you couldn’t help but think mischievously, there would be lined marks all over their faces.
Finally, you spotted Ortho hovering in the corner of the lounge, obviously in sleep mode.
Silently, you moved further into the dorm lounge, your arms filled with blankets and pillows that you had stolen from the other rooms. Before you did anything with the items that you held carefully in your hands, you made sure to clear the area of your friends’ studying materials. From the laps of both Jack and Sebek, you withdrew a potionology textbook and a binder filled with incantations that were meant to be memorized for defense, respectively; the Heartslabyul duo, a series of booklets detailing the various herbs and fungi that were supposed to be on Crewel’s next exam.
Once you gathered all the materials and placed them in differing piles on the low coffee table (carefully and without messing up the notes or else one half-fae would get really angry with you), you began to tuck in all of the boys.
For Jack and Epel, you sacrificed one of your larger blankets. It was large, fluffy, and was a dark green that reminded you of emeralds. After you made sure that Jack wouldn’t get a crick in his neck for sleeping in his particular position–that is, curled over Epel–you turned your attention towards Sebek.
Unfortunately, there was no way that Sebek could possibly sleep like that without causing undue stress to his body. Swallowing back your nervousness, you shook Sebek’s shoulder, already anticipating an onslaught of verbal warfare. However, as your fingers gently brushed his shoulder, his light green eyes snapped open. Already fearing for your life, you began to start apologizing and begging him to keep quiet, but Sebek must have already been aware of what you were doing before he opened his eyes.
To your surprise, he gestured for another blanket in your arms and when you offered it to him, he placed it around himself and went back to his upright position complete with his arms still folded over his chest.
When you didn’t move your position–you were stunned that he wasn’t going to go sleep on another couch or at least join Jack and Epel in their little cuddle pile–he opened one of his eyes and glared at you.
You mouthed a “Fine” at him before heading towards one of the first few friends that you made at Night Raven College.
For these two, you gently awoke the both of them so you could place a pillow beneath their heads. Ace grumbled a little, but still managed an incomprehensible thank you. As always, it was Deuce who colored slightly at your kindness, but eventually he quieted from his embarrassment to thank you earnestly. You told the both of them that they could relocate to one of the other couches available or go to an actual room with a bed, but they must have been too tired because they waved off your offers.
Satisfied with a job well done, you turned to the last occupant of the room.
No, it wasn’t Ortho.
(However, you did pat him lightly on the arm as a mini goodnight from you to him).
In front of the fireplace, lying on his back and his paws facing up in the air, Grim slept. A few hours ago, the boys had lugged in a few logs and had started a fire so that they could study comfortably. The fire had been stoked recently and showed no signs of dying anytime soon, so you ignored it for now in favor of gently lifting up your favorite cat beast onto a pillow. However, as you placed his sleeping body atop of it, his strange blue eyes opened wide.
He yawned, his sharp teeth dangerously close to nipping you. Blearily, he mumbled out a greeting. “Henchman? Are we done studying?”
You huffed at that, fully knowing that Grim was going to cram later, but you knew that he was still trying his best. Oddly enough, you were proud that he had been putting more effort into his studies, which was a far cry from how he had first started out.
“Everybody’s asleep,” you whispered. You held a finger to your lips to accentuate your point. “Do you want to head to our room or stay in the lounge?”
Grim’s three pronged tail swayed from side to side as pondered the offer over in his mind. While you waited, you sat beside him, your legs sprawled in front of you as your toes were warmed by the heat of the fireplace flames. As the wood burned, you were aware of the crackling and snapping as the logs eventually succumbed to the greedy hunger of fire. Fully warmed now, you found yourself steadily leaning backward until you were fully supine with your face angled upwards and facing the ceiling.
The ground was hard against your back, but you dismissed such discomfort. The warmth was easing you into a lull that would latch onto you until you had no choice but to fall prey to Morpheus and the Sandman.
A paw gently stroked your cheek. Although you kept your eyes closed, you made a humming sound to let Grim know that you were still awake.
For some odd reason, Grim remained silent and you found yourself frowning. Opening your eyes, you expected your cat beast to be actually asleep, his paw resting on your cheek a mistake that he hadn’t rectified.
And yet–
When you gazed at him, you found that his sapphire blue stare was mirroring you.
“Grim?”
The cat beast hesitated. As a way to soothe this sudden bout of nervousness, you began to pet his fur. As always, he wasn’t exactly fluffy like most normal animals, but there was comfort in pressing your fingers in his weak spots and watching him melt into your embrace. As a result of the aforementioned melting, his head smooshed into your shoulder and that’s when you heard him speak.
“You looked sad today.”
You blinked and felt your face warm. To calm yourself, you continued kneading the fur around his neck and in between his ears.
Voice measured, you replied, “Really? I guess the stress about the upcoming exams has got me feeling blue. Heh.” You poked him in his cheek, careful not to press too hard or else he’ll claw at you for insinuating that he was cute enough to irritate like this. “Get it, blue?”
Grim rolled his eyes and you could have sworn that the bright blue flames from his ears turned red for a second.
Okay. He wanted to be serious with you.
That was new, but you could oblige.
You withdrew your hand from his fur, silently lamenting the loss of contact, before you answered him in full.
“We have less than two weeks left, Grim.”
He nodded absently, his eyes never leaving yours. What was going on in that brain of his, you couldn’t help but think. It wasn’t like him to be this concerned over just a random mood change.
“Yeah, and? Henchman, if you’re worried about failing, don’t worry! You’ve been studying so much with these guys–” He waved his paws in the random direction of your fellow Night Raven College first years. “–that I think if given the chance, you could actually teach the subjects by yourself!”
Almost as if you wanted to remove yourself from the situation, you faced the ceiling again. It was true. Way before the end of year exams were announced, you had long since started documenting and taking notes of what should appear on the tests. It wasn’t out of pride or the ambition to be at the top of the first year student list. No, it was because…
Well…
Only you and Grim knew what it was like to be stuck in this particular situation and even then, it seemed like you were fighting this battle alone despite your shared title as one student.
“It’s not about the exams,” you whisper into the red tinged darkness. “It’s about what comes after.”
The Headmage had only offered you room and board for the school year only. You had asked around and while summer classes were available (for students who needed remedial lessons), what use were they of to you? Sure, you could probably skip ahead in some classes and lighten your load for the next few years, but what then? What came next? After nearly a year stuck in a world where magic exists and with no hope of ever going back to your home world, you were tired.
Studying for exams was the only thing that kept your head above water.
It was a red herring for the real thing that caused you stress: the need to find a place to stay.
“I…” And that’s when you realized that your eyes had become wet and your throat had become tight and scratchy. Even breathing, a task that should have come naturally to you, had become laborious and hitched the longer you thought about your situation. “I don’t want to stay here forever.”
At the same time, you didn’t want to be cast out into the world without a safety net. For all of his grand platitudes about kindness and benevolence, the Headmage did little to reassure you that someone would take you in when he knew that you had come into this world with nothing and that while it had been almost a year, you still had nothing to your name.
Only used garments from previous Ramshackle tenants; ratty, tattered notebooks that taught you things that were of no consequence to you; and a dorm that was empty except for ghosts.
If you were looking at this optimistically, Night Raven College would house you for the next three to four years all through the school and summer terms. Once you got your internship (hopefully something that didn’t require innate magic), you could finally come into your own.
On the other hand, maybe the Headmage would finally tire of you. The Overblots had long since ceased after Malleus’ meltdown, but you hadn’t heard from the Headmage since. Common sense warned you that it would be best to set up a meeting with your warden so that you could be on the same page and map out a route on how you should proceed, but you couldn’t do it. You procrastinated.
You didn’t want to be confronted with the reality that the Headmage could just as easily throw you out as let you stay on the grounds when most of the student populace had gone.
And, a traitorous voice in your head whispered, what if the Headmage actually found a way for you to return? What if all of your worrying and fretting was useless?
All you had to do was ask…
You closed your eyes tightly–a vain attempt to stifle your tears. It was useless, though, a few tears escaped and you felt them trail down the creases of your closed eyes and down the slope of your cheeks. Absently, you felt Grim rest his paw on you again.
“You’re gonna be a great mage one day. You know that, right?” A smile split your face open; it felt painful and out of place as you began to sink into despair. “I’m gonna miss you.”
Silence.
And then–
All of a sudden, you felt a weight drop onto your chest at an alarming velocity. Spluttering with disbelief, you found yourself suddenly face to face with Grim. His ears were blazing fiercely, the fiery red at odds with the exact same fire mirrored in his sapphire blue eyes.
“G-grim–?”
“Why are you talking like we’ll never see each other again?” You felt the full weight of his body press down on your chest, nearly suffocating you as you tried to regain your bearings. “Do you think the Great Grim would actually abandon my henchman?”
“N-no? That’s not what I–”
“Exactly!” His paws pressed deep into your cheeks, forcing you to look only at him. There was no escape from him. “If the Headmage kicks you out, he’s also kicking me out! Where you’ll go, I’ll go!”
Oh.
So, Grim had actually been paying attention to you.
“But that’s not gonna happen,” Grim continued. He removed his paws from your face, but remained seated on your chest, his eyes defiant and his body language demanding that you pay him attention. “Because we’re a team and if that stupid Headmage knows what’s good for him, he’ll keep us both because we’re gonna be great mages! Just you wait!”
He stood above you, his ears finally returning to their electric blue color. In amazement, you could only gape at how mature and confident he sounded. Could it be really that easy? Or was it that foolish optimism you were feeling?
Regardless, you managed to huff a disbelieving laugh as you reached out and scratched the fur in between his ears. The heat welcomed you like an embrace as Grim followed suit. Without so much as an invitation, the cat beast burrowed into your neck as he flung his forelimbs around you.
“Didja hear me, Henchman? We’re gonna be great mages and you’re gonna find a way to cross worlds so I can see how much of a dump your old home was, ‘kay?”
Playfully, you pinched his cheek at his dig at your home world, but ultimately let it pass.
“You do realize that I still don’t have magic, Oh Great Grim.”
“So what?” He held you even tighter as if it were possible. “That’s why we’ll be both the greatest mages in the world! You’ll be the first to not have magic!”
You didn’t question his logic, your mind was still frazzled from the roller coaster of emotions you felt and the snot and tears that were building up at the back of your throat was not helping matters either. Perhaps in the morning, when you were well rested, you would tease Grim for such a weird thing to say, but for now–
You could only hold him closer so that he could use you as a pillow.
As his breathing slowed down in slumber, you blindly reached around yourself until you finally picked up the last blanket. It took some maneuvering, but you managed to drape the cloth over yourself and the very first friend that you met in Twisted Wonderland.
Tomorrow, you promised yourself. Tomorrow you will corner the Headmage with Grim in tow and finally settle the summer arrangements.
Whatever happened next, you knew that you wouldn’t be alone.

kind of wanna reinforce this here. because i’ve seen ai writing become so popular on tik tok.
ai writing is not okay.
it’s literally theft. just like how ai art steals, ai writing steals. it’s using authors’ very real work to generate whatever you type in. and this also needs to be said as well.
writing is a form of art. fanfiction is a form of literature.
seeing this all over my fyp is REALLY discouraging. fanfic itself is already a labor of love and we love it when you interact. but please do not use ai writing for your fanfic needs when this writing literally steals from fanfic authors.
genuinely don’t know if this post will go around because my interactions outside of hcs are shit, but i hope it does.

i'll dry the villain's tears pt.2
you get reincarnated into a role that became the breaking point of the villain's story and you, be it an unwillingness to cause them harm or a desire to survive, must work hard to make sure they grow into a better (or at least safer) person.
all entries are meant to be read as platonic. all are meant to be taken place in the TWST universe accurate to the game.
Tumblr media
It was a very strange feeling, being immortal. Within the blink of your eyes, decades had past and you still didn't know why you were brought to this desert world and why you were granted a second chance at life. Your memory is broken and fading, yesterdays felt like years and years felt like yesterdays. Very few things mattered enough anymore for you to remember. All you can piece together is the distant, far off memory of waking up from what felt like a long nap and falling into the arms of a man clothed in rags.
He's dead now. Has been for a long time.
But now, you serve his family - his descendants. The shackles that once bound you were broken off centuries ago but... Something was telling you to stay, to wait. You were needed here. You didn't know how long you would have to wait but nothing could pull you from your course. Nothing.
It wasn't until the birth of Kalim Al-Asim that you remembered. Everything came rushing back, flooding your mind's eyes with visions of blot and tears as the palace erupted into cheers and praises, everyone around you eager to celebrate the good news. The birth of this child would surely be a blessing to everyone around him.
Except..
for Jamil Viper.
You had to find him.
For the first few months, you practically tore up the palace, ignoring the cries and complaints of the servants and guests in your pursuits, claiming you mad behind their hidden mouths and jeering tongues.
"Why are they searching so hard for a servant boy?"
"Our blessed and loved Kalim Al-Asim has been born! Why wouldn't they want to shower him in their blessings?"
"Surely this dijinn has gone mad with age!"
You ignored the servants and their trite giggling over meaningless chores. Your cause was greater then their own.
It wasn't until several months later that you found him. In the arms of his mother and father, you found the child that would curse the name of his brother in near everything but blood and nearly wept in pity. You clutched your fist, ignoring the whispers and the gawking of the palace servants and guards as you knelt down and pressed your lips to the child's palm, smiling as the innocent child giggled at you. It knew nothing of the future it would've been granted if they didn't have a friend like you.
"Don't worry, child, your life will be a happy one."
Tumblr media
"Watch where you're swinging that thing! You nearly smacked the intern's head clean off!!"
Was that why you were seeing stars?
You stumbled for a second, nearly dragging a boom mic down with you as your legs tried to catch your near dead weight. The man carrying the wooden beam didn't even apologize as he carried on with what he was doing. In fact, nobody really seemed to care after they knew you weren't knocked out cold on the floor, knowing they just dodged a lengthy worker's comp.
"Yeah... thanks guys. Really feeling the teamwork," you grumbled, blinking past the tears. Where were you anyways?
Wait, that was strange. Why couldn't you remember anything? You remembered important details like what car you owned, where you lived, how to drive a car, but your past, your name, everything was gone like a balloon just popped between your ears.
"Ugh, maybe I do need to get myself that worker's compensation," You grumbled, rubbing your palm against your forehead, "Everything's coming out all topsy-turvy..."
Your thoughts were quickly interrupted by a loud smack against your back, nearly sending you reeling back into the boom mic's loving arms. "Hey, intern! The star needs something to wake him up, go get a drink from the cafe downstairs. You know what he likes, right?"
You spluttered as the burly man, obviously your boss, shoved a credit card into your hand and walked off back on set, not even giving you the chance to open your mouth to respond. You bit back a scowl, choosing instead to pocket the card and noiselessly stomp out of the recording studio, silently cursing your luck.
It continued all the to the cafe where you realized, hey, you really don't remember what ''the star'' liked in caffeinated beverages. The barista, equally as tired as you, watched in workplace related misery as you fumbled for ideas.
"Uh... hey," You tried reading their name tag, "Mim? What's the most popular drink you got here? I'll have one of those?"
"One java-chipped cappuccino coming right up~"
You pulled out one of the chairs at a table and sat yourself down while you waited and tried to piece together what exactly had happened to you. You were an intern, you could recall, barely scraping by in the big city with dreams of being film crew. You had graduated college with high grades, nothing to sniff at, but you had chosen to intern at this particular business for some reason. You pinched your brows but the more you thought about it, the more annoyed you got. The sound of your name being called was just the wake up call you needed.
The barista handed your drink before centering their gaze to your chest. You followed their gaze and found their eyes linked with the nametag laced around your neck as you ran the credit card to pay.
"Wow," they tapped their nail against the counter, "You're working with the Vil Schoenheit? That must be pretty crazy."
You let out a loud squawk in shock as memories came flooding back, accidentally sending the coffee half way across the counter and on to the floor, the foam and drink dripping all over the freshly wiped down tile. Your arm remained high in the air as you both looked at the mess you had made.
"I'll... um... can you hand me some napkins?"

-Deuce’s Winter Break-
(This story is from Deuce's perspective during the events of book four. I only know information from the English server story and events so sorry if anything is terribly out of character. This fic is platonic and is cannon for my female Yuu-sona, but I do just call them Yuu in the story. Yuu uses she/her pronouns. Hope you enjoy! Ps. There is a little bit of cussing. Found the pictures in a post by @ naruryun, they are not mine.)
“We should trade Magicam IDs now that you've got a smartphone,” Ace pulled out his phone and began typing out Yuu’s account in the search bar, “Y'know, in case something comes up.”
I smiled as I pulled up the app on my own phone, “Oh, good idea. I'll share mine, too.”
Yuu’s ID was a play on the fact that the headmaster called her “Beast Master” after we got back from the dwarf’s mine. I could always tell she was secretly proud of that title.
Ace finished adding her, “Feel free to hit me up if you get bored over winter break.”
She smirked, which was her form of a smile, “Thanks, I'll do that.”
“Man, you take everything I say so seriously Yuu,” Ace chuckled, “I was joking.”
I glared, “Then it was a lame one,” I then turned to smile at Yuu as I added her, “Anyway, feel free to reach out if you need anything at all,” I quickly tucked my phone in my pocket and grabbed my bag, “My mom's probably waiting on me, so I'd better go,” I began walking towards the Dark Mirror, “Happy holidays guys.”
I could hear Ace behind me, “Yeah, I'll do the same. See you next year!” I could hear him running to catch up with me, but I was already whispering the name of my street and stepping into the murky abyss.

It was hard to see my mom among the other kids meeting their families. Children cheering as their older siblings came home from their schools, parents hugging their grown babies and fussing over their bags of laundry, and the students basking in the attention that coming home brings.
I looked through the crowd and found my mom. My grandmother always said I was the spitting image of her. She had straight, navy blue hair cut into a bob, blonde streaks weaving into a larger mass of hair.  Her eyes looked gray in the afternoon sun, but I knew they were really cyan.
She caught my eye and lit up, “Deuce!”
I ran over to save her the trouble, “Hey Mom.”
“Let me get a look at you,” Mom gently grabbed my face and moved me around, “I can barely believe that’s my son.”
I pulled back and put my hand behind my neck, “I guess I’ve changed a bit since I left.”
She smiled, “You have no idea how proud I am of you.”
I flushed under her gaze, “Let’s head on home.”
She giggled, “As long as you tell me all about school.”
I gathered my bag under my arm, “Fine.”

Home was the same as it had been when I left. A small apartment with blankets piled on every chair and letters piled on the kitchen counter. I set my bag in my room and then moved to the kitchen, where Mom had begun fixing dinner.
“I’m making folded egg sandwiches,” Mom had her back turned to me, “Is that alright?”
“Yeah,” I sat down at the dining table, “So what do you want to know?”
“Everything,” Mom moved to the stove, “I haven’t heard anything from your teachers.”
“Well I’m doing okay in class, but that might just be because Trey, Riddle, and Yuu help me out.”
“Who are they?”
“Well, Trey and Riddle are in Heartslabyul with me. Trey’s the vice-housewarden and he’s like the dorm mother hen. He’s done most of the tutoring, but Riddle helps him sometimes. Riddle’s the housewarden and he’s ridiculously strict.”
“Oh really?” Mom started grating cheese, “And who’s this Yuu person?”
“Yuu is one of my-” I tried to think of the right word. Our group never calls ourselves ‘friends’, but that seems to be the only word to describe how we are. Yuu calls us “Dumbass Beasts”, but I don’t want to tell my Mom that.
“She’s one of my best friends.”
I could hear Mom’s eyebrow raise, “‘She’? Isn’t Night Raven an All Boys school?”
“That surprised me too, but Yuu’s an exception to a lot of rules,” My phone vibrated with a message, I spoke as I went to pull it up, “She doesn’t have magic, she’s only half a student, and she isn’t even from this world.”
Mom grabbed the bread from the breadbox, “I’m going to need you to explain all of that.”
“I wish I could.”
The message was from Yuu; Cater has been tagging me in his old photos for the past two hours. How did he even know I got a Magicam account? I couldn’t help but laugh.
Mom scooped the folded eggs onto the bread, “At least explain the ‘half a student’ comment.”
“Well,” I sat my phone back on the table, “Since Yuu doesn’t have magic she and this monster named Grim share a single enrollment. But Yuu’s in charge of him since she’s the Ramshackle dorm prefect.”
“Ah,” Mom set the plate down in front of me, “Is that all your friends?”
“Nah, I’m friends with Ace too,” I got up to get something to drink, “He’s one of my roommates.”
“Ace Trappola?” Mom began making her own egg sandwich, “I think his father works at your grandfather’s company.”
I poured a glass of orange juice and made my way back to the table, “The four of us have done a lot in one semester.”
“Like what?”
“Well Ace and I challenged Riddle for his title.”
“What?”
“Yeah,” I took a sip of my juice, “Ace got in trouble for eating Riddle’s tart and then it became a huge deal. Riddle ended up overbloting.”
I swear Mom’s eyes bulged out of her head, “Overblot!?”
“Yeah. Yuu led all of us into battle to keep the other student’s safe and to keep Riddle from destroying himself. But that was only the first overblot.”
“The first?”
“Yeah don’t worry about it,” I took a large bite of my sandwich, “Yuu always has it under control. Even if she’s just directing us. It’s amazing.”
Mom sat down next to me, “Do you have a picture of your friends?”
I picked up my phone, “Not unless you count pictures Cater took while we weren’t expecting it. And then posted on Magicam with a dozen hashtags.”
“Maybe you could ask Yuu and Grim for a picture? I’d love to see them.”
“Sure,” I opened up Yuu’s message, “It’s not like they have much else to do at school.”
“At school? Did they not go somewhere for winter break?”
“They didn’t have anywhere to go.”
Mom set down her food, “Invite them to come here in spring. I’d be happy to host them.”
I chuckled, “Alright,” I texted Yuu; Hey my mom wants to see a pic of you and Grim. Mind sending one?
It took a moment for Yuu to respond; Yeah sure. Just let me get the weasel.
I set my phone down, “She’s gonna send a picture of her and Grim.”
“How sweet,” Mom took the moment to begin eating.
Our conversation dissolved into specific stories and the basics of our lives apart. It was weird how I felt so at home, while only feeling like a guest in the apartment. My Mom gushed and worried in waves as I talked about the Spelldrive tournament and the final exams. It was sweet to see her so happy about my actions. About who I was. I had given her a son to be proud of.

I spent the next day with my mom, meeting with other family and shopping for the holidays. But that night my phone lit up with a message from Yuu; Trapped in Scarabia, I’ll explain later.
I was up all night, waiting for my phone to buzz again, but the only notification I got was Ace messaging me to ask if I had heard anything else from Yuu.
Eight AM came around and I chugged two cups of coffee before heading out on a walk to keep my mind off of Yuu’s vague and semi-terrifying message.
“Hey Deuce!” I froze in my tracks, turning to see my old ‘pal’ Hatter, his lackey Coney trailing behind.
Hatter was the leader of the delinquents I hung out with in middle school. He called me his equal until I went straight. His appearance hadn’t changed; hair bleached a platinum blonde, green eyes that constantly had a crazed look as they dashed from victim to victim, a trailing black jacket with copper buttons, and of course his iconic evergreen tophat with the price tag sticking out the brim.
Coney matched the jacket, but he had his own brand of insane to portray. His hair was bleached to a honey blonde and his brown rabbit ears stuck out of his head with copper piercings along every furry edge. His black eyes always seemed to be watching Hatter, as if he was waiting for the signal to attack.
“How have you been, man?” Hatter wrapped his arm around my shoulder as if we had only been apart for a week or so, “Coney here was just saying how much he missed seeing you on that blastcycle of yours. Right Coney?”
Coney nodded like his life depended on it, “Yes! Yes!”
“Look guys,” I made an effort to move out of their reach, “I’m not-”
“Aw,” Coney stopped nodding, “Are you not fun anymore?”
“What?”
“Sounds like you hit the bullseye Coney,” Hatter began messing with his brim, a signal to change their approach, “I guess you were serious about that ‘going straight’ thing.”
“I am,” I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, “And I have to go.”
“Go?” Hatter came closer, backing me into an alleyway, “But we just reunited!”
“I’m not like you guys anymore,” my hand gripped my phone in my pocket, praying that it would buzz again, “I have friends who need me right now.”
Coney’s hand drifted towards a bright blue dumpster, “You think you're better than us?”
“No way mate,” Hatter smirked and whipped his own magic pen out, “Tea Party!” My arms went flying up, my phone and other valuables making a mad dash for Hatter’s and Coney’s open hands. Hatter caught my phone and looked at the message, “This ‘Ace’ fella is.”
My heart sank, the message wasn’t from Yuu.
Coney looked over, “Oh what’s this? You and this ‘Ace’ are talking about a girl?”
“What did he say?”
Hatter smirked, “Oh? So this ‘going straight’ thing is for the eye of some lovely lady. I’m hurt.”
“No,” I marched forward and grabbed my wallet from Coney’s hand, “I’m becoming a better person for myself. I want to be an honor’s student and I’m doing a damn good job. Yuu is just a friend.”
“Sure,” Hatter rolled his eyes, “I’ll believe that,” he changed his voice to mock mine, “‘Look at me, giving up my freedom for some stupid dream of being an honor’s student.’ No way. You’re not built for that Deuce.”
My phone buzzed in his hand.
“I used to respect you Spade,” He put my phone in the ribbon of his tophat, taunting me, “Now look at you. You’re a fucking chump.”
My phone buzzed again. Something inside of me snapped like a dry twig. I could feel my body heat from the inside out, old mussels returning to their place. I didn’t reach for my pen. I just punched the bastard.
Hatter went flying back into the wall, clearly expecting to have to taunt me longer before I took action. Coney didn’t hesitate to pounce on me, knocking me to the ground under him. He fired off punch after punch, leaving the taste of blood on my lips. I kicked him off and into Hatter, aiming to get my phone back. I had to see if it was Yuu.
It all turned into a blurr. A barrage of fists coming from all directions. All I focused on was Hatter’s stupid tophat.
I got the phone back and backed away. No one followed me.
Tumblr media
All of the messages were from Ace.
Yuu hasn’t explained. What does her text even mean?
Should we go back and check on her?
I’m going. I don’t know what’s happening but it sounds like trouble. Meet me at the bus stop in town in two hours if you’re joining me.
I cleaned off in a park restroom before running home to pack a duffel bag. Mom was immediately understanding and packed me a few sandwiches for Ace and me. She smiled and reminded me that Yuu was welcome to come back with me, as well as telling me to text her when I was coming back. I nodded and gave her a hug before running out the door.
Tumblr media
The two hours were up and I met with Ace at the bus stop.
Ace was pacing, waiting for the noon bus, “Who just messages that they’ve been kidnaped and then doesn’t respond for twelve hours!? Yuu’s going to be the death of us.”
“Calm down,” I hid my own anxieties, “This is Yuu we’re talking about. If anyone can handle being ‘trapped’, it’s her. Plus, Grim should be with her.”
“You say that like that’s a good thing.”
“Fair enough,” I kept going, “But despite the fact that it’s Grim, he can still fire off spells. Plus he’s pretty good with fire magic. Maybe we’ll arrive to see Scarabia in blue flames.”
“Again, you say that like that’s a good thing.”
“It’s the best thing I can think of.”
The PA system cracked to life, “Bus to Night Raven terminal is now boarding on platform three.”
“Come on,” I grabbed my bags and began walking, “Our friend needs us.”
