Ramshackle dorm icons

I decided to make my own dorm icons. I didn't know which one to use so I chose both. Feel free to use them! Just credit me if you do please (@/nonokoko). Explanation about each design below

Ramshackle Icon V1

The spider mirror was the first design I came up with. I wanted it had spooky, old vibes.

Since Ramshackle means "in a state of disrepair" I thought of things you can find in haunted, abandoned places. Spiders, ghosts and a broken mirror.

I also chose these elements because when thinking about Ramshackle the idea of fear, spooky comes to mind. Many people is afraid of spiders and ghosts, a shattered mirror is said it gives you bad luck for seven years, which it can be something to be afraid of too.

The hat is a reference to the ghost trio and the liquid that comes out of the mirror represent blot.

Ramshackle Icon V2

This idea is less original but if you think of Ramshackle probably Grim and the Ghost trio appears in your mind. It's simple but effective to know which dorm it represents.

Idk why but the tag behind Grim's face looks like he has a scarf wrapped in to me. He seems wearing a uniform, so cute 🥰

The opening ceremony, briefly seen through the eyes of a Yuu— my Yue— Eunice.

Warmth.

Warmth is the first thing that they feel. Fine velvet against their skin, plush like some mattress of royalty. A drowsy groan makes it out of their throat as they turn, seeking something to hold on to... but it is cramped. They stir their shoulders in an attempt to shrug off space. Nothing. It's getting hard to breathe. Eunice's eyes fly open as memories of it all flood back: the fight, the music, the tracks, the horse, the black carriage. They were hit. 𝘖𝘩 𝘨𝘰𝘥, they were hit. Where were they?

Darkness is all that they see. Hands searching on every surface there is, Eunice grumbles at the tightness of the confinement. (A shrill voice seeps in somewhere from outside the walls, incoherent and inspirit.)

With a resolved nod, they gather their courage and shove with all of their weight. A bang. It flies outward. So do they— 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥, against cold porcelain.

“What?! You ain't supposed to be up!”

A blur of grey pops into their peripheral, hollering a string of colorful expletives. Eunice winces through the dull throbbing of their body. Shoulders planked on the cold flooring, they shove themselves upward and their gaze is instantly met... with a cat.

The thing is standing on its hind legs and a pair of blue flames dance within its ears. They almost mistake it for taxidermy until it 𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘴, striking and uncanny like some fever dream apparition. The shrill voice came from 𝘪𝘵.

“The cat talks...” A bewildered huff escapes them, near-bordering hysterical laughter. “Shit. Was I drugged?”

The cat gives them a look as if they've grown two heads. They might as well have. They're speaking to a damn cat.

The silence that follows the grand introduction is deafening. Eunice can only blink, once, then twice, still trying to grasp the bizarre situation. 𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘢 𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩-𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘬?

It crosses its furry arms, giving them a once-over. “Drugged? Are you loony? What are ya on about? And I am no cat! I am Grim, sorcerer extraordinaire!”

. . .

It visibly sours when no praise is found to stroke its feline ego.

“Hmph. Whatever. Just gimme your clothes, and be quick about it! Otherwise..."

A Chesire grin curls its way to the thing's face when it raises its claws with a firework crackle. Eunice's eyes dart about their surroundings, past the dimness of night and that aurora-green glow. Above them are chandeliers, around are large windows, mauve curtains, and one empty hallway. It's all so whimsical yet unsettling like some carnival haunted mansion. Blue flames begin to spark upon the polished, cold surface, singeing the long and golden edges of their— not even their — robes. Quickly. Perhaps there could be something...

Their open coffin.

"I'll roast—HEY!!”

They dash forward, tackling the cat into the hollow casket and slamming its doors shut with an echoed bang. As they stumble back—nearly tripping over their robes, Eunice turns their heels and makes a run for the exit hall, ignorant of the thrashing of the beast in the casket...

***TWST JP news + anniversary spoilers below the cut!***

The stream starts with Ace, Deuce, Jack, Ruggie, and Sebek's VAs replying to a bunch of quiz questions. I think Ace or Deuce responds with "810" when asked how many items there are on the Heartslabyul lounge's coffee table. Sebek's VA also has a hilarious answer when asked how many Draconians (wakasama fans) there are, he pulls out some super absurdly high number with tons of zeros in it.

There is then a Master Chef/Culinary Crucibles-type section where the VAs decorate their own cake for TWST's anniversary. It’s a team effort! Ace and Deuce put on the cream, Sebek added cookies on top, and Jack and Ruggie did the final decorations. It ended up looking pretty cute ^^ (Ace's VA is the one that added all the whipped cream peaks; it was mostly thanks to Ruggie's VA that the cake still looked aesthetically pleasing at the end.)

Actual game-related news time!!! The SR Grim card for the 4th anniversary is... drumroll please...!! 🥁Apprentice Chef Grim!!! ABGKSKVUkvuDSQEVUOFDFIHAFVA HE'S SO CUTE, HE EVEN HAS A LIL TUNA CAN CAKE 😭

For anniversary, there will be a series of free items given out if you log in during the event period (11th to 25th), which includes THREE 10-pull keys (released on the 11th, 15th, and 18th, respectively). You can receive up to 12 days' worth of freebies. There will be an anniversary banner as per usual; you can earn tokens by pulling on this and then trade them in for a SR magical key (50 tokens) and/or past event-limited SSRs (150 tokens), including past years' birthday cards (100 tokens). There will be a new "Event Recollection" feature which allows you to experience events that you may have missed getting the initial chance to play through yourself.

Mr. S's Mystery Shop will sell items from past events such as limited Groovy materials and spell upgrade materials. This is called the "Memory Shop".

You will be able to mark (multiple) parts of the story as your "favorite". This will be indicated with a pink heart icon.

Battles will have a new feature which allows you to save team compositions for them. Up to 25 compositions may be saved at a time. You can also pin your supports, so you no longer have to scroll to find a specific friend's character to borrow.

There will be 3 new item gachas added to the "Item Lotto" of the shop (for Crewel, Vargas, and Trein). Previously, there was only Sam's. You use a new type of medal (obtained by taking classes) to roll on the teachers' lottos, and can pull items related to what you'd typically earn in each of their classes.

Crewel's gacha may provide an herbal tea which can be used to boost Buddy Levels, including those for characters that are otherwise unable to take Alchemy classes. That means Crowley, Rollo, etc. are fair game. (Yes, you can force feed them tea to obtain FRIENDSHIP✨) The tea may also drop during Special Lessons or Alchemy class.

We finally get magical key conversion! On the summoning screen, you can turn 10 single pull keys into one 10-pull key (which guarantees at least 1 SR; single keys do not have this benefit).

The Guest Room will receive a second floor to decorate. This will be unlocked once you reach a Guest Room rank of 31.

The Guest Room rank cap will be increased from 30 to 40. Additionally, all properties of floor 1 appears to carry over to floor 2. This means the same comfort level and attributes will be present across both.

New BGMs will be added to Mr. S's Mystery Shop. There will also be new voice lines added to Alchemy, Flying, and the outfit selection screen. The official TWST soundtrack will be released on the 29th of May, though preorders are tentatively open now. It is 140+ tracks (149, to be exact!) across 4 discs and goes for 4620 yen (inclusive of tax; without tax the soundtrack is 4200 yen). Japanese retailers are offering different dorms' A5 sized holographic sticker sheets as bonuses for preordering.

Well That's a Big Cat

Hello everyone I'm very much alive, just been extra busy w/ school lately and been getting too much sleep

There's been a lot of chimera/overblot Grim on my dash lately so I'd like to contribute : Chimera Grim's Design

So starting off, Grim has a ring of blue fire surrounding his neck, much like a lion and its mane, this could either reference the chimera, or it could be referencing the King of Beasts - Scar.

Also it's interesting how the Shroudbros and Grim both have blue fire, with the Shroud family curse being that they burn away blot and how Grim has an addiction? to eating the left over Overblot stones (and seems fine after eating it) I remember seeing a theory about how Grim might've been the monster that killed Ortho, (given how Grim doesn't remember much about his childhood) Forgetting about your childhood is a actually also a sign for childhood trauma, no idea if it applies to cat-monsters though. .u.

Also, see those tentacles behind the mane? Does it remind you of someone? Our favourite octo-capitalist perphaps?

Ah yes, the snake tail. Again, this could either be referencing the chimera or the snake in the Scarabia icon. (both maybe?)

Dragon wings!!! The chimera doesn't reference dragon wings so this is definitely referencing Malleus' dragon-fae lineage. Interestingly, I don't see any references to OB! Riddle or Vil, those two could be harder to reference since they don't have a clear "animal" motif, I would appreciate it if anyone notices anything lol.

But we're still missing the goat, the chimera has a "goat protruding from it's back" but I don't see it anywhere on Grim (again, if you notice something or know someone who is better than analysing stuff pls tag me ToT)

@prince-kallisto has posted about how Twst has LOADS of religious symbolism(specifically Christian symbolism), so check them out for a clearer analysis on the stuff I'm abt to say. Goats are a symbol of Satan/The Devil in Christian mythology, and given how Maleficent(a dragon) herself has demonic symbolism the dragon wings on Grim's back could symbolise the "goat protruding from it's back".

From the start, Lucifer wonders how the hell you are even going to survive in the Devildom— your soul's the embodiment of purity, and you're also incredibly naive and gullible.

Not to mention you constantly end up lending his brothers your wealth, much to his headache— where did you even find a place to exchange Madol for Grim?!

He has to make it very clear to all the lower demons that you were chosen by Diavolo and not someone to be messed with at all.

Still as time goes on you grow on him.

You never seem to get angry or upset, and it is so refreshing to have such a sweet person by his side.

It's like the sunshine baby x grumpy protector dynamic. He's kinda like your Jamil.

Furthermore, you're always there to support and encourage him and his brothers. It almost annoys him with how soft he is for you.

However he does lecture you when you do something especially dumb.

Mammon

No seriously when he finds out how generous you are he is MOOCHING off of you. You don't even get upset with him for losing the thousand you lent him! You don't have a greedy bone in your body

Halloween was inching closer and closer by the day and you didn’t have much more time to complete your costume. So, as soon as you were finished with class for the day, you immediately returned to Ramshackle, cooping yourself up in your room until it was time to make you and Grim dinner. You had been working non-stop on your costume for the past week or so, powering through the many times you’ve pricked your finger with your accursed sewing needle. You couldn’t even count the numerous occasions that Grim or the ghosts had to help bandage your hands up after all your slip-ups at this point.

You had come up with an idea nearly a month ago and wanted to make it a reality with your own two hands – this year for Halloween, you would be a mushroom fairy! You had thought the idea was pretty cute, plus it was a simple enough costume to make considering all the DIY videos you could find on the internet. While it most certainly wouldn’t be unique by any means, hopefully your classmates would be able to appreciate the work you had put into it.

Your costume was based on the Fly Agaric mushroom, also known as Amanita Muscaria, simply because it was an iconic mushroom with its recognizable red-and-white-dotted cap. It was also one of your upperclassmen’s favorite species of mushroom, but that wasn’t the reason why you chose it – it was just a coincidence, you swear.

Right now, you were currently finishing up your mushroom cap, sewing on a few final details into the red fabric considering Halloween was now only two days away at this point. You were certainly excited to be able to show off your costume to your friends, and you were hoping you’d get a genuine reaction out of the previously-mentioned upperclassman. After about another twenty minutes, you had completed adding all of the small white beads to your hat. With a wide smile, you held your costume out in front of you. It was finally ready, and you couldn’t wait to see what everyone thought of it at the party.

Before you knew it, it was finally Halloween and – after weeks of hard work and bloody fingertips – you were finally able to wear your costume! You already had gotten quite a few compliments from some of your friends, but you had a specific upperclassman in mind you knew would absolutely love what you were wearing. You were currently scanning the room to see if you could find him, trying to spot his signature teal hair among the large body of students. It shouldn’t be too hard to find him considering how tall he was, but you ended up finding his brother before you could him.

“Hey Floyd! Happy Halloween!” You said with a smile, making your way over to one of the school’s biggest menaces. Floyd’s face seemed to light up when he saw you, a bright yet somewhat intimidating grin spreading across his features.

His sharp teeth were at full display as he made his way over to you, waving as he said in a sing-song tone, “Shrimpy~, there you a–!” However, once he seemed to register your costume, his smile immediately faded as he questioned with a slight scowl, “…What are you wearing?”

“I’m a mushroom fairy! Pretty cute, right?” You told him in return, pride filling your chest as you gestured towards your outfit.

“Ew, no – mushrooms are gross.” Floyd said with a grimace, looking almost disappointed with you.

“What? No they’re not! They’re absolutely adorable!” You told him in return, placing your hands on your hips as you stood your ground.

“Ugh – you’ve been hangin’ out with Jade too much. He’s a bad influence on you.” Floyd said, coming over and placing his arm on your shoulder as he leaned into you with his taller form. He had the habit of using you like an armrest every now and again, a habit that he had picked up months ago at this point.

“Arguably, I think you’re a worse influence.” You said with a slight huff, trying to keep yourself balanced considering you had a giant leaning against you. You moved the hat on your head out of the way so you could glance up at Floyd, asking him, “Where is your brother, by the way? I’ve been looking all over for him.”

“Last time I saw him, he was with Azul by the food table.” Floyd said, glancing down at you in return. However, once your eyes met, a wide smirk began growing on his face. As he poked your cheek slightly with his index finger, he asked teasingly, “Why, you wanna show him your adorable costume? Ehehehe, you’re getting bold, Shrimpy.”

“You know what? I think I’m done with this conversation.” You bluntly stated, quickly removing yourself from under his weight as Floyd laughed out loud at your slightly flushed face; you didn’t get why he liked teasing you so much. He didn’t seem fazed by it at all by your sudden movement either, immediately returning to his usual posture as though he hadn’t been putting all of his weight on you just mere moments ago.

“Good luck~ – I’m rooting for you!” Floyd said with a shit-eating grin, waving to you as you left that conversation before he could embarrass you any further.

You weaved in and out of the sea of your classmates, looking for the food table since that was the only lead you had to go off of. You knew you probably had all night to show your costume to Jade who was arguably the person who would appreciate it the most, but a part of you just wanted to show him now. Thankfully, as the snack table came into view, you saw both Jade and Azul who seemed to be talking with one another. Azul was drinking what seemed to be fruit punch, a slight scowl on his face as he glared down at the cup in his hand, while Jade seemed absolutely delighted by his companion’s utter look of distaste.

“Note to self,” You thought, “Don’t try the punch.”

Now was the perfect opportunity for a scare, though, so you tried to make yourself as small as possible which was honestly quite difficult given the size of your hat. You slowly closed in on Azul and Jade, the former seeming to notice your presence but deciding not to say anything as you snuck up beside Jade, jumping up slightly as you exclaimed, “Boo!”

“Ah, Prefect, it’s nice to see y–…” Jade said with a smile as he turned slightly to look at you, his words tapering off as soon as you two made eye contact.

You grinned up at both of them, saying happily, “Happy Halloween you two!”

“Yes, happy Halloween to you as well.” Azul said, throwing his cup of punch into a nearby trash can as he asked you with a slight smirk, “Not going to say ‘trick or treat’ to me again this year, hmm?”

“Nope – I think I learned my lesson from last year… but, if you happen to have any treats you’d like to give out, I’ll happily take some!” You said with a smile, watching as Azul pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. Jade was still looking at you, not having said anything besides his unfinished greeting.

One of Azul’s brows rose in question as he asked, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked at you as if you had grown a second head, “Since when did I become someone who just gives out things?”

“Since we became friends, duh – friends do nice things for friends, no strings attached!” You told him honestly; after all, you considered the three most terrifying influential members of the Octavinelle dorm to be your friends. While you definitely did not have the best start with any of them, you really didn’t have a lot of good first impressions (or experiences) with any of your friends at NRC. Somehow throughout the past year, though, you had grown to be quite close with the octo-trio.

He seemed to think for a moment, glancing over at Jade before smiling and muttering slightly, “Hmm… I have an idea of something nice I could do for both of you, then.” He then suddenly began to walk away, waving slightly as he departed as he spoke, “I’ll talk to you later if we run into each other again – have fun, Prefect.”

“Oh, uh… you too?” You managed to say, waving to him as well despite how confused you were at the whole situation. Why did he just leave? How exactly was ditching in the middle of your conversation doing something nice?? You know, sometimes Azul was just as much an enigma as the twins were.

“Well, that was kind of weird…” You muttered to yourself before returning all of your attention to Jade, smiling up at him as you gestured towards your attire, “So, what do you think about my costume Jade? Believe it or not, I even managed to make it all by myself.”

He had been watching Azul’s retreating form with a slight frown on his face as he muttered under his breath, “…He’s going to make me repay him for this, isn’t he?”

“Hmm? What was that, Jade?” You asked, not having quite heard what he had said. Between the noisiness of the party and the height difference between the two of you, it was difficult to hear anyone if they weren’t speaking louder than usual.

“I mean, probably it’s an iconic mushroom, you know? Like, I’m pretty sure everyone knows what this one looks like even if they don’t know its name.” You told him, taking a moment to think about whether you wanted to admit the second part out loud. Well, you might as well be completely honest with him – after all, he could very easily get the truth out of you if he wanted to, “Plus… isn’t it one of your favorite mushrooms? I just thought you’d appreciate it, is all.”

Jade’s face was unsettlingly blank for a long time before an arguably terrifying smirk grew across his face as he lightly pinched one of your cheeks in between his fingers, “My, you’re too cute, Prefect. I could just eat you up right now.”

“Really Jade? Now isn’t the time to joke around like that… I mean, you are joking, right?” You asked, glancing up at him; however, Jade said nothing in return, the grin on his face only widening. You could feel your blood run cold as you asked him, a nervous smile on your face as you said, “…Do I at least get a head-start?”

He seemed to think for a moment, standing up straight before telling you with a smile, “Go ahead – I’ll be a little more courteous to you than my brother usually is. Now, let’s have some fun, hm?”

if ace's signature element is wind (probably) and riddle is fire, etc. are there any other twst boys who seem to have a element that could possible be connected to them? I was trying to remember what Deuce's was but all I keep remembering are his cauldrons..... 😭😭😭😭

Some characters having signature elements might be a holdover from the game's earliest design stages!

The Magical Archives Game Guide explains that when the character selection screens were still being drafted, there was a version where "each character also had an icon indicating their magic attribute."

In the guide's example we see:

・Jamil with a fire element ・An unused Diasomnia character with a water element ・Malleus with a lightning element ・Both Ace and Trey with wind elements

A few of the characters might still be partial to certain attributes, although it seems that the system itself was ultimately abandoned.

As you say, Ace seems partial to wind magic, which is what he uses as collateral in his contract with Azul (and Azul's whole thing is collecting the particular abilities of others).

Deuce's collateral in Book 3 is his cauldrons, as you point out, and it is possible that he isn't particularly partial to any one element over any other.

Riddle seems very partial to fire as you say, while Leona's King's Roar might ally him with "earth?" (If that counts? I am not sure!)

Despite being mermaids Azul, Jade and Floyd do not seem any more particularly partial to water than they are to any other element, with Azul's contract system making him proficient at a variety of (other people's) magics.

We do see Azul use ice to freeze a door in Book 6 but he was also trying to keep the door from melting, so ice may have just been the most logical choice at the time rather than a magic that he has a personal preference for.

Kalim's "Oasis Maker" unique magic might ally him with water (similar to Leona's King's Roar and earth), while we see Jamil use wind magic in a vignette.

Rook creates what is described as "an island of ice" in Book 6 but, much like Azul's situation, this may have just been the most convenient solution at the time rather than a hint at what element he may have been assigned early in the game's design process.

Both Sebek and Malleus seem partial to lightning, while Malleus also (accidentally) causes a blizzard in Book 7, so his abilities might lean towards the weather in general (and lightning in particular).

And then there is Rollo with his fire-based unique magic, and Grim with his own unique fire!

This is what I have noticed thus far, but if anyone else knows of more instances where a character seems partial to one element or another, I would love to expand the list! :>

But all these references is just making me think that if this is intentional,,, then isn't Meleanor *alike* with Mickey with how they "appear" as an figurative icon in TWST/NRC's design?

Like, we know that 'Mickey's Shadow' appears in a vast amount of cards and bg images in-game, just like how this theory states that Meleanor's motifs resembles NRC's designs.

There's this masterlist of all the hidden Mickeys in-game (I personally think there's a lot more and we still haven't noticed because they're conveniently disguised lol)

I think this theory stands though, because Meleanor can be a parallel to Mickey's.

If she's actually the Dark Mirror (at least in essence), then both her and Mickey are "beings inside a mirror."

They can also be a good contrast to each other... Maleficent (or Meleanor in this case) being the frequent Leader of all Disney Villains and ofc how Mickey is always the hero in each Disney franchise.

Also both their locations have direct parallels to some of NRC's location.

Yuu's Ramshackle Room > The Room in Mickey's Dream

NRC Coliseum Backstage > Eastern Fortress of Briar Land

Diasomnia Hallway > Meleanor's Castle Hallway

In reference to my theory that Grim and Meleanor might be related to each other , I think its nice to mention how Mickey never appears in the presence of Grim (who might be related to Meleanor in some way).

Like Grim has to be far away or deeply asleep in order for Mickey to reflect in the mirror. And, the farther Grim goes away from Yuu, the more vivid Mickey's mirror gets.

Which makes me think that 'condition' occurs because Grim is related to Meleanor/the Dark Mirror. And ofc, Mickey "can't be reflected" because there's already a Magic Mirror here, the Dark Mirror with Meleanor(which can be related to Grim) encased inside it.

Tldr: Meleanor and Mickey are parallels of each other because of their reoccurring "presence" in NRC's design.

Tbh, them being parallels is so funny though... Does this mean Mickey will have to fight against Meleanor?? lol 😂 There is this whole undertone of Heroes vs Villains in TWST's narrative...

Mickey's "presence'' is more prevalent because his silhouette appears in locations outside of NRC which can be a nod at the fact that Heroes (like RSA) are stronger than Villains like Meleanor whose silhouettes only appear in NRC.

TWST CANT JUST DROP A REFERENCE TO CHERNABOG (FROM MALLEUS’s HALLOWEEN COSTUME STORY) AND EXPECT ME TO NOT GO CRAZY ABOUT THE CHERNABOG-RAMSHACKLE CONNECTION THEORY 💀💀💀

If Chernabog represented Ramshackle when it was a valid dorm, it would make sense that people would not dress up as him, as he would be respected enough to turn off people from that idea.

If Ramshackle turns out to be a 100% confirmed missing dorm (and not just an old outdated dorm building for a dorm we already know) that used to be valid it must be very old. (I’ve seen other people discuss this next part, writing it here for others and for myself as a note, and I also add info about Fantasia since this is about Chernabog)  Pomefiore is one of the oldest dorms (confirmed in-game) (Snow White came out December 21, 1937) and is the main theme of NRC. Mickey's Thru the Mirror short (May 30, !1936!), which Player's room is based on, is slightly older than that, and Fantasia, which Chernabog is from, is almost as old as the Snow White film. (November 13, 1940)

Grim wants to be the strongest mage / Chernabog is often portrayed as one of the strongest power-wise Disney villains AND HE’S DEF ICONIC ENOUGH TO BE IMPORTANT IN TWST and he’s connected to Mickey through Fantasia, and we have some Mickey thing going on in Ramshackle

Ramshackle’s green-ish palette could be somewhat inspired by the fact that Chernabog have been portrayed as green before:

Chernabog summons ghosts when he awakens, so if Chernabog represented Ramshackle, Player and Grim getting along with their ghost roommates fits extremely well!

Ramshackle dorm also has. Goddamn. Gargoyle sculptures!! Hello!!!!!!!!! idk if im just unlucky but i haven’t seen anyone discuss this when connecting Chernabog to Ramshackle 😭 You can’t clearly see them anywhere though, sadge. Malleus disapproves...
