fae all wear masks and seeing their faces is seen as a symbol of trust. They also typically keep their hair long.

merfolk in human form keep some key fishy features - namely their teeth, "ear"-fins, and their eyes.

Vil outfit design inspired by high fashion and chapter 5 Overblot design

Vil’s Overblot design reminds me a lot of a nuns habit so I wanted to bring in some recognizable themes such as candles, rosaries , gold detailing and such . For the face droplet mascara and tears meant to mirror crying Mary statues and such .

All this to say I wanted to design something based on these elements and while also being distinctly connected to vil.

I think it’s really interesting that Vil’s Overblot design is so reminiscent of nuns . The juxtaposition of vil who in the spotlight who is well known for his beauty , believing himself to be ugly , is dressed in what is considered to be “modest “ clothing covering himself from view .

Vil is an extremely interesting character coupled with his ob design being my favorite i love this part of his design .

It always bugged me that NRC's students all look the same. It... sort of feels like there's just, like, 6 guys running around the school changing clothes to create the illusion of "random dorm students" being present.

So I gave my favorite npc model a small redesign so it'd feel like it's actually two different guys! There's probably more to come, too. I can't wait to draw the curly-blonde Diasomnia guy, I'm going to turn him into an actual fairy, hehehe!! >:3

I’ve had this project for a while, but I finally finished it today! \(//∇//)\ This was meant to be a Neige LeBlanche redesign, but I strayed a bit from his original more than I intended. I have my thought process and concept art below the cut as usual! ^_^

Anyway, his design was a hard one to tackle. Haha, to be honest, I still don’t feel like he’s more beautiful than Vil! But with this, I wanted to take a lot of inspiration from classic shoujo anime and manga, where the eyes were sparkly and the hair was flowing and curled. My main three sources of inspiration were Candy Candy, Princess Knight, and of course Rose of Versailles.

Neige Leblache felt tough to design because I knew he had to stay very cute and young-looking, but how do you exactly make that sort of design “rival” Vil Schoenheit, while also not making him look like Epel?In my first passes, I emphasized a lot of the cuteness and femininity. But the more I pushed forward, the more I began to doubt the look. Again, the designs didn’t feel very “Twisted Wonderland” enough. He needed a more recognizable design and hairstyle.

I settled on a short hime cut, since Disney’s Snow White is very iconic for her short hair silhouette. I really liked Neige’s sailor hat, so I kept that to emphasize the youthful look he’s going for. I changed the color of his hat to blue, because I wasn’t a fan of how his OG hat blended into with his dark hair.

Then I had a lightbulb moment. I wanted to combine the looks of Snow White and Prince Florian. It would keep Neige’s cute looks, while also giving him a “boy-ish” and princely charm, the sort of charm that gives him a classic fairytale Prince look. Neige is also surprisingly tall, so I decided to emphasize his legs and waist.

To tie in the sailor look, I gave him a red bow, and also redesigned RSA’s coat and magestone because I don’t like drawing the details haha! I gave him brown boots as a reference to Snow White’s servant clothing in the beginning of the film, and also I think Neige still lives with the dwarves in a cottage? Idk I thought it was cute haha. Pomefiore’s dorm uniforms also has a Japanese theme to it, with the uniforms resembles kimonos. I wanted the same thing with Neige’s long lacy sleeves and his hair pin. The flowers on his sheer shoulder part of his sleeve and the hair pin is a reference to the flowers on Snow White’s grave. The iridescent pearls were just to be extra haha, and to try to keep his oversized jacket in place. The lace shapes were meant to be in the shape of apple seeds as well.

But I think the most noticeable change was Neige’s complexion. But going back to his face, I wanted his eyes to be sparkly and striking, sort of like if Epel if Epel had more confidence in his cute charm. I also gave Neige a red lip and red eyeshadow/liner, just to bring out these features more. At first, my Neige redesign was very pale, like Lilia levels of pale 😭 But I wanted to give him a bit of a tan just because haha. I think I wanted to give Neige more of a visual contrast to Vil alongside their personality contrast.

But I’m bad with watercolors, so there were noticeable streaks when I painted his skin. The more I went over it to fix it, the darker Neige got…eventually, I just embraced it and gave Neige a naturally brown skin tone haha... I personally like how it looks, but I acknowledge my redesign strayed a lot from the OG Neige. Perhaps he could just be a TWST-ed Snow White instead of being Neige himself. I really like Neige surprisingly, so I had a lot of fun with this. To me, he’s really cute and I’m happy with how turned out despite the huge struggle I had with painting him and his clothes overall \(//∇//)\

Edit: I was scrambling to post this because I was busy that day haha, but now that I have more time to collect my thoughts, I want to elaborate on what I mean by a “recognizable design.” Neige is a character with so far very little screen time, as he’s not part of the main cast. However, Chenya, who arguably had even less screen time than him in the main game (excluding GloMas), became very popular, no doubt because of his design as the Cheshire Cat. Of course, you have to account for personality as well. Neige is often considered too “goody goody” for a TWST boy, cause even though Chenya is at RSA, he still has a mischievous streak. But I think what brings Neige down even more is his design. There’s nothing automatically striking about him. He’s very cute, and I love his accessories. But as someone to rival Vil, Neige isn’t particularly more handsome or cute than the other boys in the cast. It’s partially why I personally like the darker skin tone I gave him. Since TWST doesn’t have a lot of darker skinned or even tanned boys, I feel like it could’ve helped Neige be a bit more recognizable. This is just my opinion, but I wasn’t a huge fan of how pointed the ends of Neige’s hair was either. Snow White has a very soft design, especially when considering the era she came from. I thought a soft shapes and doe-like design for Neige would’ve made the contrast between him and Vil stand out more. As some of the reblogged tags pointed out, Vil has a mature appeal, and Neige’s is much more “innocent.” I thought Book 6 would have a bit more commentary on the nature of celebrity industry, because I thought it was fascinating how Neige didn’t seem taken aback from Rook’s stalker-ish behavior? It made me wonder if he’s used to it, especially since his character was meant to have a cuter and innocent appeal, compared to Vil who seems unapproachable. ANYWAY this ramble went on longer than I intended, it probably deserves its own post to talk even more 😭 I just really like Neige, I think he’s underrated but admittedly TWST didn’t exactly give him his chance to shine, especially in EN when his song was cut.

Monster AU Kalim and Jamil Concept Update

Soooooo...fascinating how two years can make a huge difference in how you approach concept designs 😂

In continuing with my desire to make the characters in this AU more closely resemble their monster selves while still being recognizable, I went back and reconceptualized Jamil and Kalim from the old sketches I did two years ago (see chibi-ish sketch below)!

Honestly, I'm really proud of how Jamil turned out since I was trying to go more with the "flatter non-human face" that some naga/gorgon designs I've seen have, and it looks like he has a :3 face like a python 🥰 Noodle boi~

Kalim was a little trickier to work with as I didn't want to give him too much of a canine face, but still wanted to give him some non-humanish features. So fur fluff on the cheeks and a broader "snoot" seemed to be the best way. UvU Not sure what I'm gonna color his shoulder feathers though, but chances are they'll be the same color as his hair.

Jamil's lower jaw and underbelly, I'll be following the designs of actual snakes once I settle down long enough to do some digital coloring 😅

Expect to see more in the coming days, I'm on a roll!

Hello everyone~ with chapter 7 part 2's release, we got Malleus's overblot! And I've gotta say I was a little... underwhelmed. I wanted to see Malleus in a more monstrous Form. I have no qualms about most of the outfit, except.....

the corset was... plain. He had not NEARLY enough scales and he was GREY!! NOT GREEN! The tail was so small and not nearly imposing enough. The end of his tail looked like a weed leaf, we couldn't see his tiddies, and his hair was... short? And so, I took his fate into my hands. I present to ye, dear reader, the Malleus overblot redesign:

Kei joined this Club once he started to bond more with Malleus. Even though this was something he wasn’t used to, Kei still wanted to support his prince fan to listen to his interesting facts and ramblings.

Best Subject: History of Magic

Originally Kei took this class simply due to her being completely new to Twisted Wonderland. Ever since her first lesson on this subject, Kei studied up in the college library to get a better hold of the magic system of this world. Even coming across mentions of enchanted tools that piqued this detective’s interest more.

Hobbies: Ballet and Waltzing

Took up dancing classes at a young age after his classmates’ parents complained about Kei’s behavior. He would often tell kids infamous murder mysteries during conversations and psychoanalyze kids around him to the point they regret talking to Kei.

“Your child should be more ladylike and talk about dolls or dresses! Not this disturbing foolishness! Put her in some dancing classes or something. Maybe that will take her mind off of that crap.”

At first Kei’s parents ignored the parent’s blatant screeching. They didn’t want to force their kid into doing something she wasn’t comfortable with. But Kei on the other hand agreed with the angered parents and decided to take these classes.

The last thing she wanted was her parents to get in trouble because of her actions.

Kei’s Inventory 

Magnifying Glass:

At first, this was just an ordinary tool used by Kei during his investigations. But thanks to Crowley enchanting the Magnifying Glass for his future cases, Kei can now detect other’s fingerprints and remnants of footprints through this magical lense.

Seeker’s Will:

This was originally Crowley’s infamous weapon “The Whip of Love.” But since he barely even used it Kei decided to take ownership of it. Crowley even changed the design and gave it a different enchantment from the original one. Kei needed to protect himself since NRC is well…NRC. 

Utility Belt:

A belt that Kei wears to carry his most important tools. From Seeker’s Will to his Magnifying Glass. Kei found this belt while exploring the different rooms in Ramshackle.

Notepad:

A notepad that was transported with Kei when she arrived at NRC. Containing all the old notes she was hiding away in her old bedroom.

Ghost Camera:

Kei uses the Ghost Camera mostly for crime scene purposes so she can take pictures of scenery that might be relevant to her case. But whenever a special event occurs in her friend group, she often snaps a few for memories sake. Just to look back on if she ever does find a way back home.

Heart-Shaped Locket:

A locket from Kei’s childhood that has a picture inside he still holds on to this very day. Often gets tense when people touch it.

Briefcase:

Another item transported with Kei to Twisted Wonderland. It holds different newspaper articles about the disappearances and even some of Ida’s findings on that case.

Background

Kei Yoshihiko is an aspiring detective who is desperate to solve the case of his mother's disappearance, Ida Yoshihiko. Before she went missing, his mother was a journalist who wrote articles about strange disappearances in the city where they lived. But there was always something strange about Ida’s actions that Kei found interesting; whenever he went inside Ida’s room to check on her, he would always find sketches of a black horse carriage and notes about dreams she had about a magical mirror beckoning her to come to another world.

Kei gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was just getting sleep deprived from the story she’s reporting on. But when her mother went missing the next day, Kei's father, Detective Yoshinori, jumped right into the investigation. Kei wanted to help with the case, but her father didn't want her to get in the way, so he quickly shut her down. Which really just made Kei feel absolutely useless in that moment. She couldn’t help find her own mother’s whereabouts simply because she wasn't qualified. Nothing but a glorified distraction in her mind.

He knows Yoshinori didn’t mean to make him feel this way, it was just his inner thoughts getting the best of him during this stressful situation. But that didn't stop Kei from finding out the truth. He took Ida's notes, drawings, drafts & began trying to figure out if they had anything to do with her sudden departure. After coming to a dead end, he decided to rest and continue his “investigation” the next day.

That night, however, Kei had a dream about a talking mirror. The mirror reflected a hand in its frame, beckoning him to approach it. Realizing that her mother's notes were correct, She stomps towards the mirror to yell at the possible cause of her mother’s disappearance. Only to wake up in a dark floating coffin with a feisty cat outside attempting to steal his newly acquired uniform.

Now stuck in the world of Twisted Wonderland, it is now Kei's goal to discover the secrets of  NRC while also attempting to determine whether or not his mother vanished in the world he has now found himself entangled in.

Personality/Situation

From day one in this new world, Kei Yoshihiko said that he was a junior detective. That was a lie.

Kei is not a detective. Yes, he has the skills worthy of one but it’s not official. Coming here to a new world gave Kei the opportunity to strive for his dream. Even if it’s in a magical world. Maybe even be a help to others in NRC by solving cases.

Eventually she started to slowly feel miserable. After case after case she solved all of them. But, more kept coming in this hell hole of a school. Crowley was oh-so happy to pile a work load onto someone else for a change and luckily for him Kei was the perfect person to hand it off to.

Soon enough, Kei started to develop an Imposter Syndrome and acted differently to how she was in the beginning. In the prologue Kei was a confused mess who often let people walk over him like he did previously in his world.  Now in later chapters Kei has become more stern, mysterious and most importantly done with everything.

All she just wanted was to find her mother and leave this place. But of course, Crowley wasn’t doing his due diligence to help out Kei as much as she helped him. Leaving her having a disdain for the raven looking headmaster. Now she has to deal with cases, blots and finding a way back home. Which only makes her life even stressful.

But later on as he continues to live in the dingy Ramshackle dorms with his demanding cat Grim, he begins to realize that even if his treatment was grueling. He signed himself up for disaster in the first place. Lying about being a detective. Noticing that he is also at fault for his own well being.

Coming to terms with herself, she continued to solve cases and help out whenever she could to students in need of a mystery to solve. And so she could feel less useless to the people around her. In the end, Kei has grown bonds with different students and housewardens. Even got herself into a relationship. Which was a huge surprise to her as well. 

Even if Kei still acts stern and serious, he does have his soft moments with the main cast. Often being vulnerable to make them feel comfortable around him. Deep down he does this out of care even if it meant lying to others about his profession.

Kei knows that one day, she would eventually have to tell them the truth even if it would hurt her on the inside. She’s just waiting for the right moment. When will that moment come? Well that is a mystery soon to be solved.

Trivia

Whenever Kei gets annoyed or flustered she starts to speak Osaka-Ben. She picked up that speech from her father and relatives in Osaka.

Gets completely stubborn at the mention of sleep. Refusing to go rest until her work is fully complete.

Often prefers to work alone but over time Kei has gotten used to his company. 

Has been learning how to handle Seeker’s Will properly but is still at his beginner phase. Usually better at restraining people rather than attacking them.

Her parents helped dye her hair when she first turned 18

When Kei was a kid, she would often rummage through her dad’s files of different cases. Some of the gruesome pictures didn’t really affect Kei in her young state. Which just made her parents worried for a few months.

Is currently in a relationship with Rook. This was a surprise to Kei because he never believed that he could ever be in a relationship. Especially with someone like, well…him.
