we've spent 32 fucking issues establishing that rachel has been trying to distance herself from her parents' legacies IF this was well written and jean and/or kitty or even ororo was the one to talk her down the story could have been "I'm not my parents but the love of my family still keeps me strong" (biological and found family!!) instead we get tykelops, someone who's only real connection she has to is that he's her father even though they've barely ever talked or had any sort of relationship which just leaves us all feeling very tired and unfulfilled

ive always been personally really fond of trans girl laura but all trans xmen hcs are valid and wonderful and i support this 1000%. platonically, scott and laura would b so good for each other they’ve been through so much and could help each other out. Neither one of them are particularly good at talking about what’s bugging them but they could tell what’s bugging each other and know how to ask without prying too much to be uncomfortable. idk what fanon laura sexuality headcanons tend to lean towards but i always dig the idea of lesbian laura?? so consider: scott and laura being each others wingman w ladies. scott is always encouraging laura to just talk to that cute girl she’s being shy about

can you name me a few good modern x-men stories to read?

Joan: How modern? There was a serious period of time, maybe 3 or 4 years, where the X-books were… lackluster at best. Mostly starting with AvX and continuing up until the most recent relaunched X-titles. There of course were a scatter few good books in that time but not a lot.

Storm’s short lived solo series was incredible. Wolverine And The X-Men vol1 was mostly great.  The X-Club mini series was beyond incredible. All New Doop was hilarious. Wolverine’s solo series by Jason Aaron is my all time favorite Wolverine solo, with the only close competition being Greg Rucka’s run. All-New X-Men had it’s moments, but it also had a lot of not good ones. The X-23 solo series starts off not great but becomes something really special by the end.For something almost a decade old now I’ll recommend Joss Whedon’s run on Astonishing X-Men although that series has a lot of Joss Whedon problems, but it’s a good story. Amazing X-Men was also lackluster but it had it’s moments.Wolverine: First Class hols a special place in my heart but most people don’t like it but I love it and it’s dorky jokes and dorky premise and I’ll always plug it.

However I am really loving the new X-Men Gold series which is only 5 issues in. I love it despite how much I hate Kitty/Colossus so that’s saying something since they are really pushing bringing that nonsense back.

Ana: I really have no right to comment on this since I haven’t been reading much recently, but I will give an honorable mention to Brian Wood’s run on X-Men v3 and X-Men v4. The latter was great in concept but all the hype made it a bit lackluster, though it had its moments. The former had some really really good moments of its own! 

I also enjoyed what I’d read of Rucka’s Cyclops! (The one starring Tykelops in his space adventures with his spacedad) 

And, like Joan, I’ve been reading bits of the current run of X-Men Gold. It’s got some really well-implemented “back to basics” stuff in it. :)

Also, just to keep this post blog-relevant, any time Ororo and Logan are a couple but as written by: Jason Aaron and Greg Pak! Don’t bother with the Cornell stuff.

the difference between laura&tykelops and laura&cyclops is so funny to me because at the same time laura and tykelops were autism parallel playing or whatever, it can only be assumed that cyclops was off-screen coming up with increasingly convoluted reasonings to never be in the same room as her for more than a minute at a time out of the fervent belief that if that happens logan will teleport there just to kill him

I usually like nicknames, this isn’t just me hating the concept.
