Food Additives: What Parents Should Know
Food additives have been used for thousands of years, ever since people realized salt could keep meat from spoiling. Today, there are more than 10,000 additives approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to preserve, package, or modify the taste, look, texture, or nutrients in foods. But increasing evidence suggests some chemicals used as food additives should be avoided―especially for children.
How do food additives affect kids?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) policy, "Food Additives and Child Health," explains that a rising number of studies suggest some food additives may interfere with hormones, growth, and development Some may also raise a child's risk of obesity. Children may be particularly susceptible to the effects of these additives, given that they have more exposure than adults due to their size and dietary intake.
Below is a list of the most commonly used food additives and the current health concerns. This list includes indirect additives, which are used in processing or packaging, as well as direct additives that are put directly into foods.
How to reduce your family's exposure to food additives
Buy fresh or frozen. It's best to buy and serve fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables when possible.
Eat fewer processed meats. Try to avoid processed meats, such as hot dogs, ham and meats in pre-packaged meals, especially during pregnancy.
Wash plastic food containers and utensils by hand, rather than in the dishwasher. Heat can cause plastics to leak BPA and phthalates into food. Avoid microwaving food or beverages―including infant formula and breastmilk―in plastic, if possible.
Use glass and stainless steel. Especially when cooking or serving hot foods, use alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.
Learn plastic recycling codes. Look at the recycling code on the bottom of products to find the plastic type. Try to avoid plastics with recycling codes 3 (phthalates), 6 (styrene), and 7 (bisphenols) unless plastics are labeled as "biobased" or "greenware," which means they are made from corn and do not contain bisphenols.
Wash your hands. Because chemicals from plastics are so common in items we touch throughout the day, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling food.
Speak out. Join the AAP and other organizations calling for more research into food additives' safety, including improvements to the U.S. food additive regulatory program and retesting some previously approved additives. A recent review of nearly 4,000 food additives showed that 64% of them had had no research showing they were safe for people to eat or drink. While some change to the current law could be achieved by the FDA, some may require congressional action.
Common questions from parents about food additives
How do I find out which additives are in foods?
Additives that are put directly in foods are listed on ingredient labels, but often with their chemical names. For example, salt may be listed as sodium chloride, sugar as sucrose, vitamin C as ascorbic acid, and vitamin E as alpha-tocopherol. Artificial colors are usually listed by their numbers, such as Blue #2 or Yellow #5. However, there are also indirect additives from processing or packaging materials that are not listed on the ingredient labels. These can include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard, and different types of coatings.
Are additives a problem in any baby products?
The FDA recently banned BPA from baby bottles and sippy cups, but the chemical is still used in some food and beverage containers. Many companies have voluntarily removed BPA from their products, but in many cases replaced it with chemicals such as bisphenol S (BPS) that may have similar health effects. In 2017, the Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the use of some phthalates in child-care products such as teething rings.
Do artificial food colors cause childhood hyperactivity?
More research is needed to better understand how artificial food colors (AFCs) may or may not impact a child's behavior. This is because much of the original research on these additives were animal studies that did not include behavioral affects. For some children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other problem behaviors, the AAP says that until we know more, it may be helpful to eliminate AFCs from their diet if they seem to worsen symptoms.
The future of food additives
Many new techniques are being researched that will improve how additives are produced. One approach is the use of biotechnology, which can use simple organisms to produce food additives. These additives are the same as food components found in nature.
Talk with your pediatrician
Although there are ways to limit the amount of potentially harmful food additives in your family's diet, stronger federal food safety requirements will help keep all children healthy.
If you're concerned about food additives, talk with your pediatrician. Your regional Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU) have staff who can also talk with parents about concerns over environmental toxins.
There are many different methods used to produce natural plant extract powder. Durning an extraction process a solvent is used to draw out the plant extracts, common solvents utilised are water or alcohol. Once the desired compounds are extracted the solvent is then removed. The plant extraction method used depends on whether specific compounds of the plant are desired to be extracted or the full range of plant compounds. Here we take a close look at the different methods of extraction.
1. LIPOPHILIC EXTACTION // Lipophilic are oil loving (fat soluble) and therefore soluble in oil. Macerated or Infused oil are Lipophilic extracts. This includes fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), carotenoids, bisabolol and other lipophilic active ingredients. Note: Vitamin C is an extremely sensitive hydrophilic vitamin and therefore it is NOT present in plant oils, however some plant oils exhibit Vitamin C behaviours, research, I am sure one day may explain these 'effects'.
HOW IT WORKS // Plant material is added to a carrier oil. Maceration is performed as cold or warm-cold. Usually the procedure takes a few days to several weeks and the plant material is renewed several times during the maceration period. Heat or sun are applied as sources of energy. Ingredient Example // St Johns Wort Infused Oil
2. SUPERCRITICAL EXTRACTION (CO2) //Supercritical extraction uses CO2 (Carbon dioxide - an oxygen-free process) instead of organic solvents.
HOW IT WORKS // At a temperature and pressure above its critical point, a molecule will become a supercritical fluid, which is not quite a gas, but not quite a liquid. Supercritical fluids can be used under high pressure to extract a full range of phytochemical types. CO2 has a high diffusion rate that can penetrate the material quickier than liquids. It is a pure substance found in nature and is, thus, easily removed from the final extract without leaving any residue.
Among its advantages, supercritical CO2 extraction has the flexibility to extract specific compounds, and it operates at temperatures lower than expeller press and organic solvent methods. It also involves no oxygen, thus better preserving the extracted compounds.
CO2 extraction delivers the superior active properties of the plant without the use of any chemical solvents or the production of residues & impurities or issues with rancidity. Supercritical CO2 extraction is not ideal for all ingredients, this method is only applicable to materials that are lipid soluble.
A natural instant fruit juice powder is a powder made from the juice of fresh fruit and then dried into a fine powder. Fruit juice powders are basically concentrated fruit juice dehydrated by spray-drying method. Its moisture content is 1%-3%. The spray drying process is considered a conventional method to convert fruit juices to powder form. It can be used in drinks, dressings, marinades, desserts, smoothies etc. One must not get confused between fruit powder and fruit juice powder as the two are totally different. Powders are made from drying the whole fruits while fruit juice powders are made from drying the pure juice.
What is an API?
An API is defined as a specification of possible interactions with a software component. What does that mean, exactly? Well, imagine that a car was a software component. Its API would include information about what it can do—accelerate, brake, turn on the radio, etc. It would also include information about how you could make it do those things. For instance, to accelerate, you put your foot on the gas pedal and push.
The API doesn’t have to explain what happens inside the engine when you put your foot on the accelerator. That’s why, if you learned to drive a car with an internal combustion engine, you can get behind the wheel of an electric car without having to learn a whole new set of skills. The what and how information come together in the API definition, which is abstract and separate from the car itself.
One thing to keep in mind is that the name of some APIs is often used to refer to both the specification of the interactions and to the actual software component you interact with. The phrase “Twitter API,” for example, not only refers to the set of rules for programmatically interacting with Twitter, but is generally understood to mean the thing you interact with, as in “We’re doing analysis on the tweets we got from the Twitter API.”

Hi again😍 I would like a synastry ship with TXT, Golden Child and Stray Kids( can you put second best match).
Thank you so much🙏🤭💖
P. S. I would love it more💋 if you do the synsatry ship with Eunwoo with more details😅🤗🙏
Tumblr media
In TXT, I ship you with Yeonjun!
He has a Virgo Sun, you have a Capricorn Sun. This is a harmonious combination, especially since you also have your Juno in Virgo, so you'll find that the best partners often have Virgo traits, humble, intelligent, kind and thoughtful people. He would admire your drive and patience, you would value his hard-working nature and skills. You could achieve a lot together.
His Virgo Mercury trines your Capricorn Mercury so communication is very good, you are both focused on material results, you would function well together, like a well-oiled machine lol!
His Virgo placements are squaring your Gemini Moon and Saturn, which could be challenging, usually between Virgo and Gemini, it's more about teasing and bickering. You could find him a bit too strict and picky. But it's unlikely to be a big issue because of the trine with your Capricorn placements, including your Mercury which rules your Gemini moon, so as long as communication is flowing, the square is not a problem. Virgo and Gemini are also both ruled by Mercury, so they have that intellectual quality in common, and they are both mutable signs, so they adapt to different energies more easily, especially Gemini, as it's such a curious and sociable sign.
His Sun also falls near your Midheaven, so that suits your Capricorn Mercury which is your 7th house ruler, and you Capricorn Sun and Venus. He would be someone who would have a positive impact on your image, reputation and status. You eould see him as a respectable figure. He has a Libra Moon, an air sign like your Gemini Moon, so it eases even both the square aspect between Virgo and Gemini. This is very good, both of you need communication and fun, to share with your partner. It's unlikely that the two of you wouldn't have something to say to the other. As a Libra Moon he would put you first. The trine to Saturn would make the relationship last and would make you two emotionally comitted to each other. It also matches your Moon in the 7th house, the Libra house, so you both need partnership, you would make the relationship a priority.
His Libra Moon is also squaring your Capricorn placements. So we have this double trine, double square with the Sun and Moon. So you would learn from each a lot. You both have a sociable and a more introverted side to you.
His Venus in Leo match your Sagittatius Rising. Leo Venus admires courage, strenght, outspoken people with morals and integrity. They want passion and playfulness in love. And your Sagittarius Ascendant is full of life, so it matches that. He would treat you like a queen and your Capricorn Sun and Venus would like that too.😊
Your Pisces Mars is opposing his Sun, that generates a certain attraction and complementary energy, possibly some adjustments but given the rest of the synastry I think you would motivate each other to act selflessly and for the good of all.
His Mars is in Sagittarius with your Ascendant so he would be very attracted to you, and in Sagittarius he would probably make a grand, bold move to get your attention! His Mars is also squaring your Pisces Mars. So you have a grand mutable cross. It is an aspect that present a certain amount of tension, but the reward is big and the growth and balance that can be achieve is worth it, and you have enough harmonious aspects to handle it.
His Jupiter and Saturn are in Taurus, trining your Capricorn Sun/Mercury/Venus so with that grand earth trine, you would feel really safe and also powerful in that very stable relationship.
Second choice would probably be Soobin, Taehyun wouldn't be bad either.
Tumblr media
In Golden Child, I ship you with Bomin!
Another Virgo, so same that with Yeonjun, it fits your Juno and your Capricorn energy, but this time he has his Venus in Virgo as well, trining your own Capricorn Venus. So you would both value caution in relationships. For the two of you, love is about more than just the romance and passion, it's first and foremost about trust, honesty, being there for one another, and building something together. You would be secure for sure.
His Venus would also oppose your Mars so there would still be a strong attraction, and it would be a very romantic. He would show his love through small acts of service, cook for you, fix things around the house...😊 Although Virgo Venus can be shy at times, your Pisces Mars would know how yo make him feel at ease and would let him reveal to you the sensual side of earthy Virgo.
Bomin has his Moon in Gemini like you with his Saturn and Jupiter. So the Virgo-Gemini square would be even less of an issue since he has Gemini energy himself. He would understand you perfectly, it would be like with Doyoung (if you remember 😅), talking for hours, when separated being on the phone and texting all the time. It would be very stimulating on a mental level, and because your Mercury are in trine aspect to each other, we know that the communication would be good.
The addition of his Jupiter in this Gemini conjunction brings a lot of joy and it means that you would learn a lot together. You two could enjoy going to museums together, read the same books and then share about it, travel and explore, it's a bit like studying together but it'll be very fun. You will want to improve the relationship constantly, be a better person to make it work.
His Leo Mars makes him act in a brave and noble way which your Capricorn Sun would admire. It matches your fiery Sagittarius Ascendant, you both have a tendency to start things with enthusiasm and passion.
I feel like this relationship would be very rich and long-lasting.
Second choice would be Jaeseok. Jibeom and Donghyun are good too.
Tumblr media
In Stray Kids, I ship you with Minho!
Minho is a Scorpio Sun, Mercury and Venus, which matches your Capricorn Sun, Mercury and Venus. He is more emotional and intense, you are more grounded and controlled, but both of you are commited, loyal, wise and realistic people with a lot of depth. It would be easy to open up with a person like him. Scorpio accepts the dark side of human nature and Capricorn understand that too. It would be a powerful match, both of you have a certain authority and a lot of determination and patience so you could achieve a lot together.
His Scorpio placements also trine your Mars, so he would be your type. On a physical and romantic level you two are compatible, and with his Venus and your Mars in a water sign, the chemistry would be magnetic, it would be a deep, soulful and healing bond.
His Sagittarius Moon opposes your Gemini Moon and conjunct your Ascendant. Even though he would easily relate to you, you actually have opposite yet complementary ways of dealing with your emotions. You may ask yourself a lot of questions and like to consider a lot of different ideas, he wants to find answers. So I feel like here again, there could be a bit of a teacher-student dynamic. But it would be on both side, because his Moon looks up to you (your ascendant), he sees you as a guiding light. You would learn and explore a lot, particularly on an emotional level.
His Virgo Mars trines your Capricorn placements, so again it point to mutual attraction, romantic chemistry. Because both your Mars are in "shy" signs (Virgo and Pisces), you would approach each other with caution, he would just observe you at first, notice little details about you to try to understand you (especially with his Scorpio placements he would be the type to do that).
You would try to magnetize him with your Pisces energy lol. And it would work because his Jupiter is in Pisces, and it rules his Sagittarius Moon. So he would be emotionally drawn to you even more and in this Pisces conjunction he is the guide, so again teacher-student relationship that goes both ways. He would help you channel your Pisces energy in a good way, use your intuition wisely, maybe inspire you with a project you could devote yourself to. He would give you faith in yourself and encourage you.
His Taurus Saturn creates a grand earth trine with your Capricorn planets and his Virgo Mars, bringing stability and fruitful results to the relationship.
Jisung would be my second pick, but Minho is by far the best pick in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Synastry with Eunwoo :
So first of all he is a Cancer rising so all your Capricorn planets fall near his descendant. Your Sun and Venus are in his 6th house, which points to working together, chores, health, routine, these kind of Virgo things, so as a Virgo Juno you may find it to your taste. Your Mercury is in his 7th conjunct his descendant so for you this is good because it fuels your Gemini Moon. Mercury is your 7th house lord so this means that as far as his ascendant goes, you have found the perfect partner to communicate with.😊 Communication would be the main focus in your relationship.
Your Cancer Jupiter, which is your chart ruler since you are a Sagittarius rising, is near his ascendant, so again there is a strong identification on your part. You see him as someone you can learn from who can help you evolve, who shares your vision in life and your beliefs.
His Moon is in Sagittarius with your Ascendant, so he would relate to you just like Minho. It is also conjunct your Pluto and South Node. So there would be a strong karmic connection. He would be magnetize by you, and would definitely see you as a powerful figure. The South Node points to past life connections, it's our comfort zone too. So you would definitely feel like you know him, there would be a strong familiarity on both part.
His Pluto is also right on your ascendant. So he would definitely want you very much! But he could also want to control you. It would all happen on a subconscious level, so it'd be confusing for both of you, could be either creepy or irresistible. Definitely can point to obsession on both parts! Whether one likes this type of contact depends on if they have a lot of Pluto/Scorpio/8th house going on natally. You have your Moon opposite and your Mars square Pluto, so you may have a tendency to attract this type of partners, but you may not own your Pluto. This is a powerful energy that with the opposition points to reclaiming your power by digging deep within yourself.
Now his Aries stellium including Saturn, square your Capricorn placements. The square with Saturn can be tough, it brings lessons learnt in a harsh and challenging way. It is not a glamourous placement. It's controlling, restrictive. So on the long term the relationship could become hard-work. Even though his Aries placements are in his 10th house, which makes him ambitious and career-oriented like a Capricorn, it doesn't really understand your earthy Capricorn energy.
His Mars is in Virgo and it rules his Aries planets so it makes it easier to some extend, makes him less impulsive than the typical Aries, and with the trine to your Venus it points to physical chemistry.
But Aries is a very young energy, it's the first born, it's impulsive a bit selfish, impatient. Capricorn is associated with old age, these people are old souls, mature, wise. His Aries energy could be exhausting to you while he would probably think you are too "parental".
Your 7th house ruler and Venus are in a square to each other, so your love nature is in conflict. In the end you probably have different expectations from a relationship.
But your Junos, the asteroid of marriage, are in good aspect to each other in Virgo and Taurus, somewhat matching each other energy as well (your 2nd house stellium and his Virgo Mars ruling his Aries planets), so even if the relationship would become difficult, you would have a strong devotion to each other and it would be hard to let go.
So not an easy match, even tough there are binding aspects. I guess the relationship could be very passionnate and intriguing at first. His Aries planets are in your 4th and 5th house so definitely a strong familiarity and attraction and it could be fun for a while.

20 Health Tips for 2020
The start of a new decade brings with it new resolutions to improve one’s life, including a healthier lifestyle. Here are 20 practical health tips to help you start off towards healthy living in 2020.
1. Eat a healthy diet Photo: FAO/J. Grey Eat a combination of different foods, including fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and whole grains. Adults should eat at least five portions (400g) of fruit and vegetables per day. You can improve your intake of fruits and vegetables by always including veggies in your meal; eating fresh fruit and vegetables as snacks; eating a variety of fruits and vegetables; and eating them in season. By eating healthy, you will reduce your risk of malnutrition and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.
2. Consume less salt and sugar Photo: WHO/C. Black Filipinos consume twice the recommended amount of sodium, putting them at risk of high blood pressure, which in turn increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Most people get their sodium through salt. Reduce your salt intake to 5g per day, equivalent to about one teaspoon. It’s easier to do this by limiting the amount of salt, soy sauce, fish sauce and other high-sodium condiments when preparing meals; removing salt, seasonings and condiments from your meal table; avoiding salty snacks; and choosing low-sodium products. On the other hand, consuming excessive amounts of sugars increases the risk of tooth decay and unhealthy weight gain. In both adults and children, the intake of free sugars should be reduced to less than 10% of total energy intake. This is equivalent to 50g or about 12 teaspoons for an adult. WHO recommends consuming less than 5% of total energy intake for additional health benefits. You can reduce your sugar intake by limiting the consumption of sugary snacks, candies and sugar-sweetened beverages.
3. Reduce intake of harmful fats
📷 Photo: WHO/S. Volkov Fats consumed should be less than 30% of your total energy intake. This will help prevent unhealthy weight gain and NCDs. There are different types of fats, but unsaturated fats are preferable over saturated fats and trans-fats. WHO recommends reducing saturated fats to less than 10% of total energy intake; reducing trans-fats to less than 1% of total energy intake; and replacing both saturated fats and trans-fats to unsaturated fats. The preferable unsaturated fats are found in fish, avocado and nuts, and in sunflower, soybean, canola and olive oils; saturated fats are found in fatty meat, butter, palm and coconut oil, cream, cheese, ghee and lard; and trans-fats are found in baked and fried foods, and pre-packaged snacks and foods, such as frozen pizza, cookies, biscuits, and cooking oils and spreads.
4. Avoid harmful use of alcohol
📷 Photo: WHO/S. Volkov There is no safe level for drinking alcohol. Consuming alcohol can lead to health problems such as mental and behavioural disorders, including alcohol dependence, major NCDs such as liver cirrhosis, some cancers and heart diseases, as well as injuries resulting from violence and road clashes and collisions.
5. Don’t smoke
📷 Photo: WHO/Y. Shimizu Smoking tobacco causes NCDs such as lung disease, heart disease and stroke. Tobacco kills not only the direct smokers but even non-smokers through second-hand exposure. Currently, there are around 15.9 million Filipino adults who smoke tobacco but 7 in 10 smokers are interested or plan to quit. If you are currently a smoker, it’s not too late to quit. Once you do, you will experience immediate and long-term health benefits. If you are not a smoker, that’s great! Do not start smoking and fight for your right to breathe tobacco-smoke-free air.
6. Be active
📷 Photo: WHO/Y. Shimizu Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure. This includes exercise and activities undertaken while working, playing, carrying out household chores, travelling, and engaging in recreational pursuits. The amount of physical activity you need depends on your age group but adults aged 18-64 years should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity throughout the week. Increase moderate-intensity physical activity to 300 minutes per week for additional health benefits.
7. Check your blood pressure regularly
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Tanggol Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is called a “silent killer”. This is because many people who have hypertension may not be aware of the problem as it may not have any symptoms. If left uncontrolled, hypertension can lead to heart, brain, kidney and other diseases. Have your blood pressure checked regularly by a health worker so you know your numbers. If your blood pressure is high, get the advice of a health worker. This is vital in the prevention and control of hypertension.
8. Get tested
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Tanggol Getting yourself tested is an important step in knowing your health status, especially when it comes to HIV, hepatitis B, sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) and tuberculosis (TB). Left untreated, these diseases can lead to serious complications and even death. Knowing your status means you will know how to either continue preventing these diseases or, if you find out that you’re positive, get the care and treatment that you need. Go to a public or private health facility, wherever you are comfortable, to have yourself tested.
9. Get vaccinated
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Tanggol Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases. Vaccines work with your body’s natural defences to build protection against diseases like cervical cancer, cholera, diphtheria, hepatitis B, influenza, measles, mumps, pneumonia, polio, rabies, rubella, tetanus, typhoid, and yellow fever. In the Philippines, free vaccines are provided to children 1 year old and below as part of the Department of Health’s routine immunization programme. If you are an adolescent or adult, you may ask your physician if to check your immunization status or if you want to have yourself vaccinated.
10. Practice safe sex
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Tanggol Looking after your sexual health is important for your overall health and well-being. Practice safe sex to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhoea and syphilis. There are available prevention measures such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) that will protect you from HIV and condoms that will protect you from HIV and other STIs.
11. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
📷 Photo: WHO/I. Brown Diseases such as influenza, pneumonia and tuberculosis are transmitted through the air. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, infectious agents may be passed on to others through airborne droplets. When you feel a cough or sneeze coming on, make sure you have covered your mouth with a face mask or use a tissue then dispose it carefully. If you do not have a tissue close by when you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth as much as possible with the crook (or the inside) of your elbow.
12. Prevent mosquito bites
📷 Photo: WHO/Y. Shimizu Mosquitoes are one of the deadliest animals in the world. Diseases like dengue, chikungunya, malaria and lymphatic filariasis are transmitted by mosquitoes and continue to affect Filipinos. You can take simple measures to protect yourself and your loved ones against mosquito-borne diseases. If you’re traveling to an area with known mosquito-borne diseases, consult a physician for a vaccine to prevent diseases such as Japanese encephalitis and yellow fever or if you need to take antimalarial medicines. Wear light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts and pants and use insect repellent. At home, use window and door screens, use bed nets and clean your surroundings weekly to destroy mosquito breeding sites.
13. Follow traffic laws
📷 Photo: WHO/D. Rodriguez Road crashes claim over one million lives around the world and millions more are injured. Road traffic injuries are preventable through a variety of measures implemented by the government such as strong legislation and enforcement, safer infrastructure and vehicle standards, and improved post-crash care. You yourself can also prevent road crashes by ensuring that you follow traffic laws such as using the seatbelt for adults and child restraint for your kids, wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle or bicycle, not drinking and driving, and not using your mobile phone while driving.
14. Drink only safe water
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Guerrero Drinking unsafe water can lead to water-borne diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. Globally, at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces. Check with your water concessionaire and water refilling station to ensure that the water you’re drinking is safe. In a setting where you are unsure of your water source, boil your water for at least one minute. This will destroy harmful organisms in the water. Let it cool naturally before drinking.
15. Breastfeed babies from 0 to 2 years and beyond
📷 Photo: WHO/T. David Breastfeeding is the best way to provide the ideal food for newborns and infants. WHO recommends that mothers initiate breastfeeding within one hour of birth. Breastfeeding for the first six months is crucial for the baby to grow up healthy. It is recommended that breastfeeding is continued for up to two years and beyond. Aside from being beneficial to babies, breastfeeding is also good for the mother as it reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type II diabetes, and postpartum depression.
16. Talk to someone you trust if you're feeling down
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Guerrero Depression is a common illness worldwide with over 260 million people affected. Depression can manifest in different ways, but it might make you feel hopeless or worthless, or you might think about negative and disturbing thoughts a lot or have an overwhelming sense of pain. If you’re going through this, remember that you are not alone. Talk to someone you trust such as a family member, friend, colleague or mental health professional about how you feel. If you feel that you are in danger of harming yourself, contact the National Center for Mental Health hotline at 0917-899-USAP (8727).
17. Take antibiotics only as prescribed
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Tanggol Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest public health threats in our generation. When antibiotics lose their power, bacterial infections become harder to treat, leading to higher medical costs, prolonged hospital stays, and increased mortality. Antibiotics are losing their power because of misuse and overuse in humans and animals. Make sure you only take antibiotics if prescribed by a qualified health professional. And once prescribed, complete the treatment days as instructed. Never share antibiotics.
18. Clean your hands properly
📷 Photo: WHO/F. Tanggol Hand hygiene is critical not only for health workers but for everyone. Clean hands can prevent the spread of infectious illnesses. You should handwash using soap and water when your hands are visibly soiled or handrub using an alcohol-based product.
19. Prepare your food correctly
📷 Photo: WHO/A. Esquillon Unsafe food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances, causes more than 200 diseases – ranging from diarrhoea to cancers. When buying food at the market or store, check the labels or the actual produce to ensure it is safe to eat. If you are preparing food, make sure you follow the Five Keys to Safer Food: (1) keep clean; (2) separate raw and cooked; (3) cook thoroughly; (4) keep food at safe temperatures; and (5) use safe water and raw materials.
20. Have regular check-ups
📷 Photo: WHO/Y. Shimizu Regular check-ups can help find health problems before they start. Health professionals can help find and diagnose health issues early, when your chances for treatment and cure are better. Go to your nearest health facility to check out the the health services, screenings and treatment that are accessible to you.

Calcium Carbonate CaCO3
Calcium carbonate is considered to be the “the first and most important thing when building a scientific civilization from scratch” by Senku in Ch 4 where it’s introduced. Their source for CaCO3 comes from smashing shells, as that’s what most seashells are mostly composed of.
Tumblr media
The four “deadly important” uses for CaCO3 are:
Agriculture
Mortar
Soap
Gunpowder
Agriculture
The active ingredient in agricultural lime is calcium carbonate, and it works to increase the pH of acidic soil (the higher the pH, the less acidic). The explanation states that “lime gets rid of hydrogen ions” as a higher concentration of hydrogen ions is what makes something acidic. Calcium carbonate reacts with acids, yielding calcium and carbonic acid, which further disintegrates into carbon dioxide and water.
CaCO3(s) + 2 H+(aq) → Ca2+(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)
The agricultural use of calcium carbonate shows up again here in Ch 91.
Tumblr media
Acidic soil impacts the production of wheat, so by using CaCO3 to neutralize the pH, Taiju “leveled up” the soil to allow for his wheat to grow.
Mortar
The second use of calcium carbonate is to make mortar, specifically lime mortar, which is made by mixing calcium carbonate with sand and water. This was used by various civilizations in the past, such as in the pyramids build by the Ancient Egyptians and in Indian traditional structures, as well as in ancient Rome and Greece. The sand is used as an aggregate, which is some kind of coarse- to medium-grained particulate material that serves to reinforce things like concrete and other composite materials.
Lime mortar is the “predecessor to cement”, referring to Portland cement which is the most common type of cement used today. The process to make Portland cement seems to be more complicated than making lime mortar, and it can cause chemical burns and other nasty health issues. The Wikipedia page I’m pulling this information from has some other neat things such as how to mix and use lime mortar, and some properties of lime mortar compared to Portland cement.
Soap
Tumblr media
The third use of calcium carbonate is soap. In the manga, it appears that they made soap using seaweed and crushed shells. I can’t find too much about specifically using seaweed and calcium carbonate to make soap, but it seems that seaweed oil can be used for making soap, among other things. Seaweed can also be processed to yield sodium carbonate (Na2CO3, aka soda ash). Mixing solutions of soda ash and lime (calcium oxide here) makes lye, which is used to make "hot process” soap by adding lye to water, cooling it for a few minutes, and then adding that to oils and butters before cooking it for a few hours and placing it into a mold. I’m not sure if that’s the process that Senku used to make soap, though, since we only get a few panels.
Gunpowder
And the fourth use of calcium carbonate is to make gunpowder. The ingredients for gun powder are listed in Ch 8: sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate. Potassium nitrate (KNO3 aka saltpeter) can be extracted from human and animal manure, once bacteria oxidizes the nitrogen-containing organic material into various nitrate salts. It seems potassium nitrate can also be obtained by immersing guano in water for a day, filtering it, and harvesting the crystals, but that doesn’t seem to use calcium carbonate in the process. What does use calcium carbonate is probably the process of treating the calcium carbonate with nitric acid and neutralizing it with ammonia to produce calcium nitrate
CaCO3 + 2 HNO3 → Ca(NO3)2 + CO2 + H2O
And then mixing the aqueous calcium nitrate with potassium carbonate (aka potash) to produce potassium nitrate.
Ca(NO3)2(aq) + K2CO3(aq) → CaCO3(s) + 2 KNO3(aq)
The charcoal is the thing that burns in the combustion reaction for the gunpowder explosion, but the need for oxygen limits the effectiveness of using charcoal on its own as the inner layers would need to wait for the outer layers to burn away in order to access the oxygen needed for the reaction. One way to mitigate that issue is by grinding up the charcoal into powder in order to increase the surface area, and the second way is to mix the charcoal with an oxidizing agent, in this case potassium nitrate, so that the carbon has easier access to oxygen without needing fresh air. The reaction with potassium nitrate and charcoal also uses sulfur in the following unbalanced equation:
KNO3(s) + C(s) + S(s) → N2(g) + CO2(g) + K2S(s)
Here is the reminder not to make gunpowder on your own, kids, because it’s dangerous.
Tumblr media
The sugar mentioned above is also used for combustion. It probably produces more energy compared to burning just charcoal, leading to a bigger explosion.

Food Pyramid is all Wrong! Obviously.
I’d like to share my opinion about something important to me— that I believe the food pyramid is incorrect and that the majority of us are eating all wrong. Perhaps the food pyramid works in some ways, but it cannot be not entirely accurate and should not be used as a standard for everyone. I believe each person may do best by creating their own food pyramid. The way our food pyramid is treating us, simply isn’t working.
I love to study health and nutrition and I have done so all my life, but without formal training of any kind. I wouldn’t accept formal dietary training by most people anyway, since I believe in listening to our bodies, and I think I know my body best. I have heard that our health and fitness is based 20% on exercise and 80% on what we eat, though heredity can skew these numbers by 70% (learned this as I worked in the medical lab). Studies have shown that slim to medium-sized people, and those who rarely vary in weight, live the longest and have fewer health problems. I have incorporated these evidences into my studies of what might, and what seems to work best for my goals of life longevity, and overall health, and quality of life.
I first became aware of nutrition when I was five years old. I had always been taught that candy wasn’t healthy for my body and that dinner was, but I didn’t understand why— until one day, I listened to my father comment to my mother that he was getting fat, and that he would prefer she not serve him fatty foods. This was the first time I understood (and to a small degree) about being what we eat.
I began, as a teen-ager, trying to find out what types of foods were best for me. I knew I would need self-discipline to be healthy without the help on my mother. I had mostly eaten whatever my mother served, and that had worked alright, but I wanted to go into the world as an adult having some sort of guide or even some rules to follow, and I wanted a good-looking bikini body. I started trying different things. I began to practice not eating when I was already full. I always remembered to eat my veggies. I stopped trick-or-treating on Halloween. I very rarely ate out, and I always avoided soda. I liked taking control of my nutrition.
Living on my own made it very easy to experiment and learn what worked best for me. This is when I created my own personal food pyramid, which I believe can work better for everyone, than the food pyramid we are all familiar with. Americans are known to have a longer life expectancy than many other countries. But we are also known for being obese and diabetic. How much longer could we live healthy lives if we had a healthier standard or guideline of what to eat?
Discovering those foods that seemed to work best for me, showed me how far I had gone from following the familiar food pyramid. So, I started a little month-long research, studying and finding what may very well be the healthiest food for humankind. I wondered which food should really be on the bottom of the food pyramid. My findings weren’t extremely surprising to me and probably won’t be to anyone else either.
I found wild salmon to be the healthiest food a human can eat— only because it contains almost all the nutrients necessary to sustain life. Salmon lacks fiber, and is low in iron and vitamin c, but all other nutrients found in it can also be found in bread, an assortment of vegetables, dairy products, eggs, and nuts. Now, I love salmon so this was exciting to me. But I also love to save money, and I began brainstorming how I could reduce my grocery bill by adding salmon to it. I found several other food items I could go nearly without if I was eating a certain amount of Salmon. Bread (not grains), pork, chicken, dairy products, cold cereal, canned and boxed foods, never enter my grocery cart. I don’t recommend going entirely without any specific food item, however. We need nutrients from all food.
I created a food pyramid from my own studies, and for myself, that I absolutely love. Here is what I have created: I have Salmon and other seafood on the bottom of my pyramid. The second level contains dark leafy greens. The third level up contains nuts, legumes (beans), and olive oil. Level four has all vegetables (besides the dark leafy greens), the fruits and the grains. Then red meat and egg yolk are on the very top triangle. There is no dairy on my pyramid, though I don’t consider it to be harmful in every case— I just find it unnecessary when eating lots of seafood. Too many of our dairy products have massive amounts of sugar or salt added as well, which we should be careful not to eat too much of.  There also are no meats besides the seafood and red meat. Salmon has enough protein and nutrients to cancel other types of meat out. But red meat contains things only red meat has, which are essential for healthy blood and skin and hearts.
Did you know there are people who live off only seafood, coconut, and limes? When I saw this on some islands surrounding Thailand, I was amazed this was possible. Natives of the snowy north live off only seafood, other meat, and berries. A man was stranded on a ship in the early 1900’s for 3 years. After finishing the food on the ship, he was left to just fishing, and for two years, he ate only raw fish which provided most of his water as well. These are signs to me that fish is substantial and nutritious. Nobody ever lived off just vegetables for very long. Bread can come close if served with occasional vegetables and a protein. But certain types of fish alone can feed us for a very long time. Salmon can feed us the longest.
My food pyramid is very high in protein, so to follow my food pyramid correctly, I need to drink a lot of water.  I know this is very different from the food pyramid taught to me as a child. The food pyramid from my childhood is the one that has grains on the bottom, then fruits and vegetables on the next bar up, then meat and dairy, then some pyramids I have seen contain oil and even candy on the very top. Candy on a food pyramid? And why does the food pyramid change so often? Are we still guessing what should be eaten?
The problems I see with the food pyramid where bread is on the bottom and candy is on the top, is that the people who live in places this is taught are mostly overweight and have diabetes and heart problems. They can still live long lives, however, but at what quality of life? Humans are made of meat, not bread. Besides, bread is a step away from grains as it is made of not only grains, but other ingredients as well including preservatives— grains are most nutritious when they are as minimally processed as possible. We eat too much also, which may be the main reason our food pyramid doesn’t serve us well. It is easy to eat too many grains as they are convenient and affordable. It is more difficult to eat too much fish, which often needs cooked before consumption. This is another reason fish is on the bottom of my pyramid. I can’t understand why candy is even on any food pyramid when candy should never be ingested.
Now some of us have health concerns. I have hypoglycemia and high hematocrit (iron), so I made sure my food pyramid would work well for this. I have pasta more frequently than may be necessary for other people since I process the sugars from pasta differently, and it helps me to have energy and to not slip into a dangerous low blood sugar level. I eat red meat less than some others should because of my higher hematocrit (which could cause a stroke. My food pyramid was put together with health concerns in mind. Our current food pyramid would not cater well to anyone with blood sugar issues because of the amount of grains and fruits recommended, which can mess with blood sugar levels.
Most Americans are fortunate to live with plenty of food options. There is usually no excuse to not eat right, except that we may not know how to do it. Some do not get to choose how they eat and then they must be happy with what they get. But, for those who are fortunate enough to decide for themselves, I have offered a suggestion to try— my food pyramid. See how it works for your budget, lifestyle, and body. If my food pyramid doesn’t work for you, then try creating your own, or even sticking with the one we use now.  Regardless of what your food pyramid looks like, it is yours. To have a general food pyramid for everyone can be dangerous if we use it as our only or main guide to nutrition. There should be as many different types of diets as there are people on the planet.
I care about my life and my kids and friends. That is why I care about what goes into our bodies.

(+) Independent, Ambitious, Passionate, Hard-Working (-) Blunt, Hot-Tempered, Judgmental, Sarcastic
Lucy has always been hard-working and ambitious, especially when it came to the family business. It helped that it was what she loved to do, and that she was super passionate about it. Seriously, she’s not exactly the most social of people, but don’t get her started on a conversation about plants - she’ll definitely talk your ear off.
She’s pretty much always been independent, too. She’s needed very little guidance or direction in her life, as she’s known from the very beginning where she’s wanted her future to go. Which was helping her dad.
She can be quite friendly with most people, if they’re also kind and friendly in return. However, typical redhead, she can also be very hot-tempered when she is angry - and she can get angry pretty quickly, if her buttons get pushed too many times.
Lucy doesn’t have much of a filter, so she can be very bold and blunt on occasion, and sometimes she can come off as rude, but she doesn’t usually mean for it to come out that way. She’s just super honest and opinionated. And Judgmental, can’t forget that. Boy, can she be really judgy and too sarcastic sometimes. Easily her biggest flaws.
- H E R   B I G G E S T   F E A R -
Musophobia - the fear of rodents; particularly mice and rats. However, Lucy’s fear extends towards all types of rodent, except squirrels and chipmunks - she isn’t bothered by them as much.
- L I K E S   /   D I S L I K E S   /   H A B I T S
Loves gardening - she spends a great deal of her time in the dozen or so greenhouses that her father has put up on their property over the years - all of which house many of the plants that help supply their shop for things like herbs, teas, essential oils, etc..
Obviously, she's obsessed with plants. Her small one-bedroom apartment is filled to the brim with house plants, almost obsessively so. Thankfully most house plants are very forgiving when it comes to colder climates, so living up in Maine, where it’s usually always cold and rainy with very little sun, doesn’t affect them.
Working out and staying in shape. Goes to the gym three times a week, if she’s not super busy.
Keeping journals, as she finds her life easier to manage when she documents specific life events.
Heavily into plant photography. She keeps an online portfolios up on her online shop, listing all of the species of plants that her family grows and that they sell through their in-store and online shop.
Being social, despite feeling like, at times, she could be a bit awkward when it comes to actually starting a conversation with a stranger. Good thing Derry’s small and coming across a stranger is rather uncommon.
Is 100% vegan
She is a true artisan - she takes the most pleasure out of growing and making things from scratch and by hand. She dabbles in a lot of areas - from baking to cooking, to DIY arts & crafts, and especially to making and perfecting natural-based recipes for a lot of different things that she sells in her shop: lotions, soaps, lip balms, scrubs, essential oil blends, candles, tea blends, spice blends, etc. You name it, and Lucy’s very likely got her hands on it.
She dries her own herbs and spices and tea leaves, and though it’s quite a tedious process, she LOVES doing it. She loves harvesting the leaves and bundling them in twine and hanging them to dry all around the shop. In her opinion, it’s totally aesthetically pleasing. That, and she very much enjoys doing things the old fashioned way. By hand. She’s got a total pioneer-like homestead mentality when it comes to how to does things.
Ever since she was a very young girl, Lucille’s always been more than willing to help her dad look after the greenhouses and she’d come into the shop whenever she could, helping him stock shelves and nothing’s really changed. Only now, she was selling a lot of her own products as well as the plants that come from both the Hannigan and Rhoades nurseries.
Enjoys baking and cooking, immensely - having been taught by her mother from a very early age. She uses her baking skills to make specialty breads and other baked goods to sell in The Rose Garden.
Is a self-taught pro at needlework - embroidery, knitting and sewing alike. A lot of her hand-made pieces can be seen hung up around her apartment and her shop.
- T H E   R O S E   G A R D E N -
“ Where the love for nature, baking and art meet “
It’s very much an artisan shop, heavily focused on home grown and hand-crafted products. A botanical shop / natural apothecary / produce market / bakery all in one.
See the overview list of things The Rose Garden sells here
- B I O G R A P H Y -
Is a native to Derry. She’s lived here her entire life, apart from the four years she left to go to New York for college.
Is of Irish / Welsh / Scottish descent, from both of her parents’ side
Has an older brother, whom she is very close with. He, too, helps out with the family shop when he can, but he’s usually off doing his own separate thing.
She is also close to her first cousin, Chrissy Rhoades (Lucy’s dad being the brother of Chrissy’s mother) who’s family owns their own plant nursery. The two families are greatly connected with one another, as the fresh produce from both nurseries and greenhouses are sold at The Rose Garden shop. Lucy also uses fresh ingredients supplied in bulk from both family’s crops to whip up large batches of her various handmade goods and body products.
While her brother preferred going off and doing his own thing, Lucy often stayed close to her parents, finding comfort and peace at their side verses being out-going and overly social. This lent to her growing a very strong attachment to both of her parents, since she was never very good at relating to other people as a whole and Hugo and Renee Hannigan were her whole world as a small child.
That being said, she’s always had a stronger connection with her father, with whom she shares a love for all things leafy and green, and the want to turn said leafy and green things into a variety of different things. They had the biggest green thumbs and most inventive minds of the family, and it was just something the two had always bonded over. That, and they were both highly anti-social and quirky individuals, preferring their plants for company rather than other people. Not that they weren’t friendly and welcoming to the other locals of Derry, they just didn’t know how to talk to people outside of business-talk. At least, not very well.
The two are insanely obsessed with the work they do for The Rose Garden, putting all of their time and passion into their shop and making sure their greenhouses and various equipment were running nicely.
So you could safely say that she was a daddy’s girl, through and through, from the very moment she came into the world. She took after him the most.
Her childhood was quite normal, all things considered. The Hannigans were a happy family with a pretty healthy family dynamic. All was great, or so Lucy thought. She was around 10 when her mother started acting peculiar. One minute she’d be fine, fixing dinner in the kitchen or cleaning and then the next she’d totally flip out and start screaming. At seemingly nothing. The episodes would send the entire house into chaos. Her father would shoo her and her brother up to their rooms or into the next room to keep them both safe and trying to keep them from witnessing the full extent of their mother’s mental breakdown. Which both children were more than fine with, as just listening to their mother’s blood curdling screams and subsequent emotional crying was more than scarring enough for them.
This went on for two years, the episodes unpredictable but never any less intense and frightening. The mental health of Lucy’s mother decreased significantly over that short amount of time, until it reached the point where Renee refused to get out of bed, and remained in a perpetual state of terror, leaving her essentially catatonic, apart from incoherent mutterings under her breath, and the godforsaken rocking. Not even the professionals could tell what was wrong with the woman or what had even triggered her mental decline, but they did eventually, very loosely label her condition as catatonic schizophrenia.
At age 12, her mother was taken to Juniper Hill Asylum, where she’s been ever since, still unresponsive to anyone’s presence apart from her own mental demons. She continues to mumble nonsense under her breath that nobody seems to be able to make out.
Adjusting to life without their mother was hard for both Hannigan children, and hard on their father, but despite his heart breaking at the loss of his wife, he made sure his kids were taken care of and loved and wanting for not. And yes, they did consider Renee’s absence as a loss, for though she wasn’t dead, her lack of presence in their life was greatly felt and just as devastating.
They still, to this day, visited her often, but every time was a very painful experience, resulting in lots of tears, mostly on Lucy’s end. She just couldn’t bare to see her mother in such a sad state.
The absence of her mother caused Lucy to cling tightly to her dad, and even her brother. The three of them became one another’s rock, bringing the remaining three Hannigans even closer as a family.
After high school, Lucy moved to New York City for four years and graduated from NYU at the age of 22 with a double bachelors degree in Horticulture and Botany. That had been her set goal from as early on in her life as she could remember; she’d always planned to go to school to study plants and grow her knowledge on the subject. Plant science - or Botany, as it was called - and how to properly cultivate different species - was something she had always been fascinated in. She already had quite the training, having been taught a ton by her dad growing up, but she wanted to be properly certified when she joined him full time at the shop.

𝐅𝐑𝐔𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒   ♡   𝐒𝐘𝐌𝐁𝐎𝐋 𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐄
Instead of having people send these in I just wanted to do all of them myself!
🍍  :    how comfortable is my muse in their body? how do they feel about their height,  weight,  strength,  and body type?  how important is being attractive to them?
All Scanners share virtually the same physical form, and all YoRHa units use the same base endoskeleton, though the hardware differs between function. They’re short and small-framed to save the maximum amount of materials while still being able to effectively perform their duties. 9S has never felt self-conscious about himself physically because he looks almost identical to every other Scanner and there was never any pressure on any of them to look a certain way like there is with humans. They have no ability to change their height or weight (though non-YoRHa androids can do so for aesthetic purposes if they choose) and it’s forbidden by their uniform code to modify their bodies anyway.
Since coming to Koi, 9S is quite aware now that he would be very short for a human of his apparent age, but he doesn’t feel bad about it or anything, other than occasionally being irritated at getting mistaken for a kid.
🍅  :    how does my muse feel about plastic  /  cosmetic surgeries   &   procedures?  is it something they have done or would do?  do they mind if others do it?
As mentioned before, it’s forbidden for YoRHa units to try and alter their bodies, even if it’s for something like a tattoo or piercing. 9S doesn’t feel like he has any reason to do so right now, but that might change in the future. He doesn’t care if others do it. It’s their choice to do what they want with their bodies, as long as they understand the consequences.
🍏  :    how stable is my muse’s physical health?  do they go for regular or semi-regular checkups by a physician?  do they have any diagnosed illnesses and / or take any medication?  how often do they get sick?
9S knows maintenance is extremely important, and he is fairly accident-prone it seems. He’s had a limb or two blown off by machines more than once. Although he’s not a Healer unit, he’s gotten used to performing repairs on himself in the field and gets fussy if he has to sit around and wait while someone else fixes him up or checks him for viruses. As an android, he’s immune to biological pathogens, so there’s never any reason to worry about that. Currently he is functioning just fine.
🍎  :    how stable is my muse’s mental health?  have they been diagnosed with any mental illnesses and  /  or conditions?  do they have any undiagnosed mental illnesses and  /  or conditions?  do they or should they attend therapy?
An android’s mind doesn’t work the same way as a human’s, but it’s still very possible for their data to get scrambled or glitched due to trauma. 9S was supposedly wiped clean after every execution, but that doesn’t mean nothing ever remained, and every time he rediscovered the true reason for his partnership with 2B it became more and more painful to confront.
9S does an excellent job at convincing himself he’s stable, but it’s quite easy to push him over the brink. His emotions are terribly repressed so one needs only to scratch the surface to draw them out. He really should talk to somebody about this but there are no therapists on the Bunker.
🍑  :    how meticulously does my muse look after their physical appearance?  do they spend a lot of time on their hair,  makeup,  grooming,  and clothing?  is there a particular reason why they do or don’t?
9S really likes to be clean! Although it’s not necessary for androids to bathe, since their bodies are naturally resistant to dirt and moisture and they don’t sweat, he doesn’t enjoy getting all dusty or covered in machine oil and will wash himself off the first chance he gets.  He finds being dirty very distracting. Keeping one’s dermal layer repaired is a vial part of maintenance as well, so he mends any small cuts or scuffs quickly.
🍒  :    how much does my muse value companionship?  do they constantly keep people around them,  or do they prefer to be alone often?  do they have or desire to have many friends?  do they see every meeting as an opportunity to make a new friend?
Although Scanners are often solitary, 9S really enjoys being around others and will eagerly socialize with other androids. If only the resistance members wouldn’t stop trying to get him to run errands for them... He’s friendly with the other Scanners and will spend time with them if they’re on the Bunker together, though they seem to hold him at arms’ length for reasons he understands now.
2B is a special case, being his bodyguard of sorts. She could even be considered his best friend, and though his feelings of fondness for her are genuine, they’re very complicated. He’s happy she’s here. He’s also thrilled to be making so many new friends on the islands and does his best to make a good first impression, especially with humans.
🍇  :    how would my muse describe their childhood?  how much has it impacted the person they are now,  or will become as an adult?  around what age did they or will they start to mature,  and why?  do they wish to go back to their days as a child,  or have they embraced adulthood?
9S was ‘born’ fully-functional and did not have a childhood of any sort. He didn’t even get to shadow a senior Scanner or anything, he was thrown right to the wolves. Such as it is.
🍐  :    how intelligent is my muse overall?  are they smarter than the average person,  or less than?  are they primarily self-taught,  or did they acquire most of their knowledge in school?  are they more street smart or book smart?
Uncommonly clever and observant, even among his own kind, though prone to making reckless decisions when driven by his emotions or his insatiable desire for answers. 9S has access to vast informational databases he can draw from, even in his own archives, with even more stored on his Pod he could summon at any time... if his Pod was here.
🍉  :    which of the four seasons suits my muse best,  and why?
Winter. Everything is buried, dormant, appearing quiet and serene on the surface.
🍌  :    is my muse inclined to help others,  or will they only do it when it benefits them,  if at all?  what makes them this way?  has it ever gotten them into trouble,  or inconvenienced them?
9S doesn’t mind helping others, though he can get irritated if given tasks he feels will distract from his mission, or that are boring or too difficult. When it comes to helping the surface androids, they more often than not involve combat with machines and him and 2B risking their lives, which he finds completely annoying, and not fun, but he still does it anyway.
🍊  :    does my muse desire romance?  is it something they would actively seek out,  or prefer to happen more  ‘  naturally?  ’  what is their love life like?  do they have any exes or past flings,  or crushes?
Relationships between YoRHa units are officially banned, though the rule is not enforced very strictly. 9S has a hard time comprehending the complexity of romance and prefers not to think about it, perhaps unconsciously convinced he doesn’t deserve to have anybody feel that way about him.
🍓  :    how is my muse typically seen by others?  does it ring true to who they really are?  does their reputation matter to them?
I would imagine, based on his youthful appearance and friendly, earnest demeanor, a lot of people would assume he’s a lot more naive than he really is. 9S lacks a lot of knowledge about how modern society functions, but that’s because he arrived 6,000 years too late to the party. He picks up on things extremely quickly and is quite socially perceptive. Fitting in is important to him, having come from such a conformist culture as YoRHa.
🥝  :    does my muse have any  ‘  unusual  ’  habits, interests,  and  /  or talents?  do they hide it,  or are they proud of it?
9S is more interested in human culture than most Scanners and especially enjoys collecting human-created media, particularly music, which he stores on his Pod and plays when he’s out scouting. He’s had a great time in Koi renting movies from the library, because entertainment options back home were extremely limited. He’s also gotten into fishing because of 2B.
🍋  :    what kind of diet does my muse have?  do they eat regularly,  or the standard 2-3 meals a day?  do they have to be reminded to eat,  or are they likely to remind others?  do they cook,  or have others cook for them?  do they eat healthily,  or not so much?
As an android, 9S doesn’t require food to live. He can’t feel hunger or satiation. YoRHa units are powered entirely by the reactors in their black boxes, which only require water to function. Most of the time they can get all the fuel they need from vapor in the air they breathe, though in dry climates they’d need to find a water source.
However, eating is an important communal activity, so they have a limited ability to do so. They don’t have stomachs or digestive systems. Any matter they consume is incinerated as soon as it’s swallowed. As a Scanner, 9S can analyze the chemical makeup of things he tastes, so he’s always putting weird shit in his mouth just to see what it’s made of. He enjoys eating with others, especially after difficult missions. It’s relaxing, even if the food is usually terrible because nobody has proper ingredients.
🥭  :    how important to my muse is their hometown,  or where they’re from?  are they proud of it,  or considered a hometown hero? did they move away,  or do they wish to?
9S doesn’t have a hometown, unless the orbital base he was manufactured on counts. He doesn’t like spending extended amounts of time there, because there’s not much to do, but returning is often required in order to meet with the commander and receive mission details. It’s kinda nice to be able to look down at Earth from space, though...

Roh Suha: Survey
What is your character’s name? Nickname?
Birth name: Roh Suha English name: Susan Roh Nickname: Sue/Su
Does your character have any birthmarks? Scars? How did they get them?
No birthmarks. A few moles on body: back of right calf, left ankle, hip, ring finger. Only scars to note are a burn the size of a kidney bean on her knee, several mosquito bites on her legs, and scratch-marks on her left wrist from a minor fall she’d taken off the back of her second boyfriend’s bike.
Who are your character’s family? Are they close?
Father: Roh “Jimmy” Joohyuk, 74. Chairman and Co-founder of Oh+Roh Architects. Member of the Architectural Institue of Korea and the Korea Institute of Architects. Lecturer at University of Seoul. Warm persona despite tight-lipped face and towering disposition. Level-headed, with the comportment of a monk. Suha is very close to him and admires him most.
Mother: Heo Yeeun, 70. Recently retired anesthesiologist. Practical but emotions are in constant flux. Known to hold grudges. Spends most of her time these days hiking and photographing nature. Hopes to see one of her photos published in the National Geographic someday. Suha is fairly close to her, but they do butt heads from time to time.
Younger brother: Roh Suhyun, 32. Hair stylist. Unabashedly outspoken. Bright, feigns idiocy. In a long-term relationship with boyfriend from university—they had been fellow pre-law students (before Suhyun dropped out to pursue his current line of work). Scares Suha because his intuition is always fuckin’ spot-on. Suha is very close to him.
Describe your character’s closest friends/types of people they surround themselves by.
Suha keeps a large circle of friends around her at all times but the majority of her friendships are superficial/prolonged only by some lingering sense of obligation and because sometimes you need to get out of the house and see someone other than your whining kid or your husband’s dumb face. Regularly lunches with work friends (current coworkers, former employees who moved on to start their own practices, clients she clicked with) or classmates from SNU and Cornell. Suhyun is her best friend. Her neighbor, Heesun used to work alongside Sewon until she decided restaurant business was more her flavor please don’t mind the pun. Together they bitch about him with reckless abandon.
Where was your character born? Where have they lived? Where do they call home?
Born and raised in Seoul. Father was just starting to get a name for himself, mother had just started residency at the hospital. Home was a small apartment in a well-to-do neighborhood south of the Han. Six years later, family moved to a slightly larger unit just a few streets away, to accommodate for another little one. Family’s final move took place after Suha’s matriculation to SNU, to a single-story home in Yongsan-gu designed by Suha’s father.
Lived in NYC for a few years after graduating. Lived in Ithaca, New York, to finish a master’s program. Returned to Seoul and lived with family for another two years until engagement in 2010. Commissioned a fellow architect/former classmate to design a small house in Hannam-dong, where she stayed with husband until their separation in 2016. Currently living in a two-bedroom loft in Daechi-dong.
Where does your character go when they’re angry?
To the office. To the gym. Work and working out are the only two things that will take her mind off her boiling rage.
Does your character have any phobias?
Gets squeamish at the sight of blood.
Describe your character’s most meaningful past relationships.
Wouldn’t consider any of the relationships that came before her marriage meaningful—just necessary learning experiences.
Age 17: Her first boyfriend. Stupid attractive and otherwise completely vacuous and unable to hold a conversation. 3 months.
Age 20: A heartthrob (none of her friends agreed with her on that) from Busan. Stoic, short of words. A truly fear-inspiring face, with a protruding jaw, high cheekbones, and long monolids. Emotionally unavailable unless drunk, which was most of the time anyway so maybe in retrospect he was actually very emotionally present. Helped her mature. 2 years.
Age 23: A go-getter. Felt like she was constantly in competition with this guy. Unhealthy relationship, but did get her past her career slump/minor existentialism. 1 year.
Age 27: An Asian-American guy from Denver, Colorado. Enthusiastic, spontaneous, and fun-loving—but a total smart alec. 7 months.
What’s in your character’s refrigerator right now? On their bedroom floor? On their nightstand? In their bag/wallet? In their garbage can?
Fridge: Two tupperwares of banchan: kimchi and pan-fried potatoes with pepper. A carton of eggs. Leftover shrimp vindaloo from yesterday’s lunch. A drawer full of vegetables: cucumber, radish, spring onions, kale, broccoli, asparagus. A drawer full of fruits: strawberries, blueberries, apples, pears, grapes, melons. Whole milk plain yogurt. A carton of coconut water and two bottles of sparkling.
Bedroom floor: Hardwood floors and a pewter cowhide rug.
Nightstand: A lamp and a Byredo candle, Tree House scented.
Bag: iPhone, keys, wallet (+ daughter’s photo at eighteen months), two pens, a pack of mints, tissues, two hair ties, Sensai lipstick in #16, Garrett Leight sunglasses, ibuprofen, hand sanitizer, a fine-tooth comb, a few spare pads, her business card, a compact, hand lotion, band-aids, tweezers, and two flash drives.
Garbage: Banana peels and other miscellaneous food compost.
Look at your character’s feet. Describe what you see there. Does your character wear dress shoes, gym shoes, no shoes? Ratty socks, or slippers knit by grandma?
Manicured toes unpainted thank you very much under white socks under The Row white lace-up sneakers.
When your character thinks of their childhood kitchen, what smell do they associate with it?
Sesame oil comes to mind first and foremost—mom had always been liberal with it. Spice did not feature heavily in the diet as both her parents and brother had a low tolerance for it (much to the chagrin of Suha’s bolder palate), so chicken soup and other clear broth-based meals were customary.
Your character is doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for them to throw out? What’s difficult for them to part with?
No sweat: most everything printed on A4; tabloid magazines; Christmas cards; anything that’s been relegated to the Reject portion of her closet; discolored/damaged cook and bakeware; museum pamphlets; airplane tickets; electronics; gifted perfumes
Second thoughts: cookbooks that she’s been meaning to flip through; kid’s crafts projects; baby shoes; high school mixtapes; polaroid photographs; dad’s handwritten letters, sent during her studies abroad; vintage hand-me-downs from mom
It’s Saturday at noon. What is your character doing?
Finishing up a morning bikram yoga class; picking up Saeeun from Sewon’s for some wholesome mother-daughter grocery shopping; fixing a simple lunch or cutting up fruit while Saeeun’s occupied with the iPad.
Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where are they going? What do they wear? Who will they be with?
Likely checking out the opening for a new shop or show—alone, now. Black’s the easiest and the first thing she’ll reach for until she remembers that Maison Margiela dress she’d plucked off the off-season rack last Sunday.
What is your character’s greatest regret(s)?
Not speaking up for a girl who’d been ostracized from her third grade class for having cleft lip. Not being able to provide a full family for Saeeun. Letting her marriage break down—not having done more.
Is there anything your character was/is currently obsessed with?
Speed-walking on a 5% incline on the treadmill; using her milk frother for perfect vanilla lattes; (dancing to) old bossa nova records.
What is the trait your character likes most about themselves? Likes least?
The good: integrity. Probably her guiding principle. The work relationships she fosters, the foundations for a new plan, the flatware on her table, the food she puts into her body, the specs on her car, the hairstyle she decides on for Saeeun. Everything requires a heavy dose of intentionality and integrity.
The bad: impatience. Her tendency towards perfectionism manifests in other, less productive (re: destructive) ways. Has a hard time keeping that fuse unlit.
Does your character have any medical problems?
Suffered some hair loss back in university thanks to a crippling case of clinical depression (lost another good chunk from the anxiety wrought by the hair loss itself), but the time’s passed and her follicles are in tip-top shape along with the rest of her health.
What kind of car does your character drive?
2015 BMW 3 Series Sedan in black.
What fragrance(s) does your character use?
Imaginary Authors’ Saint Julep (2017) is the current casual go-to—sweet mint, tangerine, bourbon, and sugar cube. Her classic pick is MEMO’s Moon Fever (2007)—bitter orange, lemon, sage, vetiver, leather, and tonka bean.
Does your character own any pets?
No. But her brother and his partner own a massive chow chow named Diablo, who also happens to be the sole reason she never visits. It’s essentially wild. How they manage to keep it on a leash is beyond fathoming.
Describe your character’s educational and work background.
Education: Public school, then foreign language school. Always kept to herself. Selfishly smart, why don’t you share, kids used to say. Finally took a peek out of the shell over the course of her short-lived first relationship. Crawled out of it for good and let all hell loose after getting The Acceptance Letter, i.e. the crowning achievement of her childhood. Nearly flunked out of SNU her first year but cleaned up her act and just barely made it to Dean’s List. Her reputation at work/shining referrals thereafter landed her a place in the graduate architecture program at Cornell.
Static work history: Oh+Roh (Seoul), Partner, 2014– Oh+Roh (Seoul), Senior Manager, 2012–2014 Oh+Roh (Seoul), Senior Architect, 2009–2012 Oh+Roh (Seoul), Architect, 2008–2009 Richard Meier & Partners (NYC), Architect, 2004–2006 Richard Meier & Partners (NYC), Architectural Intern, 2003–2004 Oh+Roh Architects (Seoul), Architectural Intern, 2002–2003
What did your character grow up dreaming of becoming?
An ice cream store owner. Then a rocket scientist.
How good of a singer is your character? Dancer?
She can carry a melody, but there’s no technical finesse to her delivery. Never had time to humor afternoon noraebang trips. Solid dancing skills. Took ballet as a kid and picked up dance again after grad school as a fitness hobby.
What is your character’s political affiliation?
Left-leaning. Voted for her girl Sim Sangjung in the 2017 election.
Which countries has your character been to?
For school: USA For work: USA, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Brazil, Mexico For leisure: USA, Japan, China, Hong Kong, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain
What cuisine is your character’s favorite? Dish? Dessert?
Cuisine: Mexican, Indian, Sichuan Dish: Galbi-jjim Dessert: Mango sticky rice
Does your character have a sweet tooth?
Unfortunately. Has to keep herself in check.
What genre of film does your character enjoy?
Animation. Must have been Saeeun’s doing. Before her, it’d probably been crime or action or thrillers but she also could just be making this all up.
What are some of your character’s pet peeves?
People who interrupt (hypocrite), bad table manners, slow walkers (especially the ones that refuse to walk in a straight line so it becomes impossible to pass), “irregardless” and “I could care less”, humble bragging.
What are some of your character’s bad habits?
“I told you so”, never admitting that she’s wrong or apologizing when it’s too late, pulling out her phone at any given moment.

8 Things You May Want To Avoid in The Grocery Store
Tumblr media
One of my most significant food challenges as a moms and dad is locating healthy and balanced foods for my household. Also several traditional packaged foods and also treats are over-processed, over-sugared, have actually been genetically modified, and deal little dietary value. We are all attracted to grab the fast food sometimes, yet if you are lured, it's best to do so with your eyes wide open.
Having helped among Canada's greatest food brand names for over a years developing food, I found out thousands regarding food and the handling of it. As well as from one moms and dad to one more, I totally recommend examining exactly what is in your household's food to earn sure you are comfy with it. Below are some elements I think about when acquiring healthy foods at your local supermarket:
⚘Genetically Modified So many foods are genetically changed. As the court's out on whether damaging health and wellness problems can occur from consuming GMO foods, I figure why delay while the scientists as well as major genetic modifiers are arguing regarding the information? When we understand that some crops are changed to stand up to some rather serious pesticide use which would certainly otherwise kill the plant, why consume it? That's why I chose natural (specifically corn, soy, and also sugar) as commonly as I can.
⚘High-Heat Processed Heat eliminates a lot of nutrients but is should eliminate online components that go off conveniently to offer a longer shelf life. Pick raw or minimally-processed foods whenever feasible. One example would be the choice of a piece of fruit vs. a refined fruit juice. Despite what does it cost? advantage a juice producer informs you there is in an industrial juice, it has been processed. Raw chocolate is super-healthy in its raw state, however it loses substantial nutrients in its processing. For a much healthier treat, chose raw chocolate made into home-made goodies or in a delicious chocolate bar sweetened with a little walking stick sugar.
⚘Wheat I am not a big fan of industrialized wheat. It uses marginal nourishment at best as compared to other grains. Removed of natural benefits through adjustments as well as processing, it hardly appears like the wheat our grandparents understood. More and even more people who don't have Gastric Disease are having problem absorbing it. Better options are the grains not yet meddled with such as spelt, kamut, or red fife. I find these taste much better and also they are not genetically customized. And also shock, my kids like the baked goods I make.
⚘Added Sugar Sugar is added to more foods compared to you might imagine. Food firms like to add sugar as the human taste buds loves it. It's so unneeded in products like pasta sauce and also salsa, and also conventional yogurt usually resembles a treat, not a morning meal food with the substantial amount of added sugars. Instead, I opt for bitter, organic yogurt and make use of a little actual Quebec syrup to sweeten as required. I abandoned my favorite brand of salsa in favour of one that has no added sugar. Amusing feature of the human palate as high as it likes sugar, it adapts to less as well as much less fairly easily.
⚘How Is It Preserved One thing to know about Big Food is that it typically should maintain the food somehow. The foods undergo substantial distribution systems, sit in stockrooms, after that remain on shop racks, and afterwards in your residence. I look for debatable chemicals or any type of also connected to health concerns. This means I stay clear of BHT (utilized to maintain food As Well As cosmetics). As Canadians are being advised versus also using it in bodycare, I like not to consume it. That wishes to wait while scientific research is verifying or negating believed links to cancer? Inspect your morning meal grains, margarines, enriched rices, or even eating gum.
⚘Ingredients In the Packaging While BPA was outlawed for usage in infant bottles, it continues to be in the cellular lining of canisters and the covers of infant food jars. Cook your personal beans from dry and also make your personal infant food or merely restrict the quantity of either that you consume.
⚘Unappealing, Unneeded Ingredients Read your tags! Food business attempt to introduce to obtain even more of your consuming dollars. Sometimes they miss the mark, developing foods that are in my viewpoint, truly fairly uninviting. I just recently saw a yogurt ingredient list which included anchovy and also sardine oils As Well As pork jelly. If the addition of important omega 3′s is exactly what they wanted, somebody should inform them there are wonderful plant-based choices for obtaining your Omegas.
⚘Real Or Not? Know your foods as well as determine your personal resistance for fake foods. Refined treats are commonly not 'real.' At only 42% potato, Pringles are not so 'real.' As well as neither are Fruit Roll Ups. With the guideline in Canada needing just 2% be fruit puree, fruit rollups supply no nourishment for your wee ones. One company, Sun Rype, does use a real fruit treat so need to not be puzzled with Betty Crocker whose fruit snacks include man-made dyes and loads of sugars, mineral oil, and also carnuba wax.
Read tags, study points you find out about food, and also figure out exactly what is essential to you and yours. Qualified sources of details are conveniently available online. And next time your kids work you over for something in the food store, you just could have a truly great come back regarding why it's not such a good idea!

7. Homemade Granola Bars
Sure, you can buy granola bars at the grocery story. However, then you have no control over the fat and sugar content. Making your own granola bars at home is a much better option, as you can pick and choose the ingredients and flavors that your family loves.
Our Homemade No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola Bar recipe is easy and quick to make—just combine peanut butter, honey, rolled oats and semi-sweet chocolate bits in a saucepan, cool and press into a pan which sets in the freezer. You can make a couple of batches at the same time to last the entire week (unless the kids go back for seconds). Each bar is 199 calories. They even fit into your Nutrisystem plan as one Smart Carb and one PowerFuel.
8. Apple Slices and Nut Butter
Apples and peanut butter are a snack time staple. The dynamic duo pairs fiber-rich fruit with the healthy fat and protein that is found in nuts. This balanced snack is a great option to pack for s school or office lunches. Want to switch things up? Almond butter makes this old standby special. You can buy a jar of almond butter and smear one tablespoon on a sliced medium apple, or look for single-serving almond butter packets at the grocery store.
9. Ants on a Log
Every kindergartener’s favorite treat! Smear peanut butter on a celery stalk and stud with raisins. Just like the last snack, you can swap in almond butter for something different. You can even use different types of dried fruit instead of raisins. It’s a simple, three-ingredient treat that the kiddos will be asking for all week!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. Healthy “Ice Cream”
Stop buying tubs of ice cream that are loaded with added sugar, fat and calories. If you have a powerful blender, you can easily make your own ice cream at home that’s just as delicious! “Nice cream” is the trendy frozen treat that everyone is blending up in their kitchen. Most recipes use bananas as the base as they create a creamy and decadent consistency that’s just like real ice cream. Then you can have fun and add all of your favorite toppings and additions.
To make a peanut butter and chocolate version of nice cream, grab your blender and combine a quarter-cup of powdered peanut butter with one medium frozen banana and a tablespoon of sugar-free chocolate syrup. Blend until creamy and then eat it right away. It doesn’t keep.
11. Black Bean Brownie Dip
You might want to keep the black beans as a secret ingredient when you serve this healthy snack to the kids. They’ll never know! They’ll also never know that medjool dates and maple syrup supply the sweet to this Black Bean Brownie Dip, which also includes unsweetened vanilla almond milk, Dutch processed unsweetened cocoa powder and chocolate chips. Serve it up with strawberries or graham crackers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
12. Spicy Buffalo Deviled Eggs
If your family loves buffalo wings, they’ll love this egg version made with hardboiled eggs, buffalo sauce and light mayonnaise. Each satisfying serving (one whole egg) is only 81 calories. You can count it as one PowerFuel if you’re on the Nutrisystem plan. Get the full recipe here! >
13. Banana Pops
This “popsicle” is healthier than any other option you will find at the store. Featuring fresh bananas and low-fat vanilla yogurt, Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego recommends peeling and cutting the bananas in half and sticking a popsicle stick in the flat end. You will then roll each banana in the yogurt.3
After coating it in the yogurt, we think these tasty pops would be even more delicious with a coating of chopped nuts or granola. Pop them in the freezer when your done so they can firm up before eating. Yum!
14. Chocolate-Covered Fruit
Fruits covered in chocolate are great healthy snacks for kids.  They can even help out in the kitchen with this one! Simply melt some semi-sweet or stevia-sweetened chocolate in the microwave. Once it’s cool enough to handle, let the kids dip their favorite fruits in the chocolate. You can even use dried fruit like dried pineapple slices, mangoes, oranges, apricots or raisins. You can even sprinkle them with chopped nuts, seeds or even sprinkles!

Costco Keto Diet Foods
Looking to enjoy the cash savings of the keto diet?  Then look no further than looking for keto Costco style.
Here’s some bargains we found while cruising the aisles of Costco looking for keto items:
Probably the best deal on the plant for any keto diet folks that want to bake.  That includes pancakes, muffins, crepes, bread and more.  Ideal for starting your keto diet adventure. Keto Costco favorite.
Blanched Diamond Almond Flour 3 Pounds
That’s 3 whopping pounds of the best “flour” to bake with on a ketogenic diet.  Try getting that at Kroger’s or any other value chain.  Price is a very reasonable $12.99 in my state for this Diamond Almond Flour at Costco.
Salmon lovers, get ready for a real treat!  Costco has a good variety and selection of salmon and steelhead trout filet for sale at the best prices around.
If you haven’t heard, Costco also has the best beef available. It tastes better, cooks better, and gives you a full keto meal with a single filet mignon or new york strip. All cuts and styles are always available at Costco.
You get a whole tranche filet to work with, which could easily last one person a month’s worth of keto dieting.
With deals like this, you can start to see why Costco is the go-to place for people on the ketogenic diet.
Like your bacon and eggs?  Well, Costco is absolutely the best place for these items – from organic free-range bacon cuts, maple and applewood and more, and of course, the ever popular 24 pack of organic eggs.
Use these eggs in all your baking recipes, in your morning keto bacon and eggs, and everything else where eggs are needed.
Kirkland Protein Bars Keto Ready
One of the superstar keto foods at Costco, with better nutrition data and even the famous Quest bars, are the Kirkland Protein Bars, my favorite keto bars Costco carries.  These Kirkland protein bars keto lovers will enjoy, they have a load of fiber, bringing down the already low carbs in these bars to a low single digit per bar, and makes a perfect keto snack.  My favorite Costco keto low carb protein bars.
Not only that, but they are so tasty they often don’t make it to the car before being ripped open.
You get two flavors in each pack, with 10 chocolate chip dough (yum yum!) and 10 Chocolate Brownie (personally, a little heavy on the chocolate, but tasty nonetheless).
With a whopping 21 grams of protein per bar, you can have one of these per day to balance out your protein intake, while keeping your carb count well within the “net 20” rule of full ketosis body ripping. Get your keto diet Costco style!
No artificial flavors mean there’s no nasty surprises to degrade your health in these bars – so you can add these as a supplement to your daily routine.
Aw, Nuts –
Low Carb Diet Favorite Shelled Pistachios Costco Keto Snack
Everyone knows we snack more than we should, and the hard core keto guys do that intermittent fasting in their daily routine.  Yet, if you find yourself unable to be strict with your 2-3 meals per day, then many nuts are good for you.
Shelled pistachios are probably the all-time favorite for keto snack items.  Apart from universal appeal and the perfect blend of fats, protein and carbs, pistachios are just down-right delicious, and you can grab a handful for a keto snack whenever you want.
The best part of this ketogenic friendly package is there are no shells.  You don’t spend your time working for each tasty morsel, but instead can indulge in a handful of delightful flavors, all while keeping in range of your keto requirements.
The one thing to note about pistachios is the “net carbs” is a little higher than most nuts (not cashew-crazy carbs, but still something to watch out for).
With a hand serving of 28 nuts or so, you’ll be getting 14 grams of fats, 5 grams of “net carbs”, and about 6 grams of protein.
It’s still well within the daily “net 20” carbs rule of ketosis, but these nuts will lead you to want to have a second serving, so be careful with the carbs here.
More Keto Costco Items
Contrasting pistachios are the raw shelled organic pumpkin seeds – basically a keto staple for anyone really into the keto lifestyle.
More tasty than the go raw sprouted pumpkin seeds Costco used to see, and better price, too. Try these organic pumpkin seeds Costco sells and see how good they taste.
Just take a look at the nutritional powerhouse food information you get with organic pumpkin seeds:
17g fat
10g protein
2g net carbs
While these nuts are not quite as tasty as the pistachios or smoked almonds, you get a good serving of the fat and protein to tide you over to the next meal, with very little in the way of net carbs.
Ketogenic Foods for Snacking
The nuts we’ve covered so far are popular among all people, and the next nut we’ll cover is more of a specialty item.
Irresistable snacking!  Smart Eating!
This is a love/hate kind of nut – the salted smokehouse almonds, but to those who love them, they are one of the tastiest nuts out there.
Since the electrolyte issue with keto is an issue, you can have a small serving of these Costco Blue Diamond Almonds when you are low on energy, couple it with a glass of water, and you’ll be back in business in minutes.  Lots of sodium and potassium.
2g net carbs per serving (3 tbsp) also rivals pumpkin seeds, but here you get a smorgasbord of sensation in addition to the ketogenic friendly food.
Let’s take a look at the Costco smokehouse almond stats:
28 nuts gives you are real vitamin delivery in addition to the keto friendly ratios:
16g fat
6g protein
2g net carbs
It doesn’t get much better than that for perfect ratios, and vitamin-wise, you see it delivers a nice serving of salt as well as some potassium, so it bumps up your electrolytes as good as any 3rd-party supplement.
With the Costco pricing, you also get a done of servings in a single bag, so you really make bank on this one purchase.
It’s also not well known that magnesium is a depleted but needed nutrient for the body, and by having ample magnesium, your brain and body will be happier.
I’d call these salted almonds the happy food of the keto crowd.
And a tip: eat these one nut at a time to fully enjoy the savory sensation.
Give them a try and see if you enjoy them as much as the fans of Blue Diamond.
Shiitake Anyone?
Costco has some awesome rare treats as well that fit the keto diet, including the delish shiitake mushrooms. These have no calories and are perfect for any keto meal you make.
Epicurean Shiitake Mushrooms at Costco
Nutritional Info for Shiitake Mushrooms at Costco
Well, looking more closely, we see these particular mushrooms do have some carbs, so be careful to consume 1-2 caps for that 7g net carbs listed above.
Get Your MCT Oil at Costco
In addition to excellent meats at Costco, you can even find keto favorites, like MCT oil, those medium chain tryglycerides that keto people find so helpful. See more mushrooms at Costco here.
MCT Oil from Coconuts at Costco
This useful oil is handy for keeping your levels of fat intake at the high level needed for ketosis. Dairy and gluten free and vegan friendly, this mct oil blends well with shakes and coffee (for those bulletproof coffee fans).
You get 2 bottles of 20 fl. ounces of mct oil in this one package.
Coconut Derived MCT Oil Nutritional Info
Coconut Oil at Costco
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil from Costco
If you are looking for a good price for organic virgin coconut oil for your keto diet, you’ll love this 84 fl oz container at Costco. In 1 tbsp you get 120 calories from fat, including 12g saturated fats, no trans fats and no cholesterol.
Organic Chicken Stock At Costco
Organic Chicken Stock at Costco
You get 6 cartons that are a quart each, so a total of 6 quarts in this pack. Created from slow-cooked organic chicken bones, it is a perfect alternative to chicken broth.
Organic Chicken Stock Nutritional Info
With zero carbs this chicken stock is perfect for a wide variety of keto recipes with low carbs.
Keto Sweeteners at Costco
You can also find many good keto sweeteners at Costco, including stevia and monkfruit blends, Splenda, and more.
Stevia Leaf and Monk Fruit Sweetener
Nutritional Info for Stevia Leaf and Monk Fruit Sweetener
You get a sweetener with no fat, and you’ll see they add the antioxidant alcohol distilled sweetener erythritol as well, so it is healthy for you as well as a good sweetener.
More Keto At Costco
Finally, there’s one more nut to crack:
The ever-recommended and perennial favorite walnuts!
Like almost everything at Costco, you get shelled organic walnuts from California that are nutritionally packed with power.
Is it any wonder all the keto kids say walnuts are the best?  Besides looking like brain food, these walnuts actually have good nutritional numbers:
20g fat
5g protein
2g net carbs
If you are a little clogged up, walnuts can help with that – low in sodium and full of potassium, they can get things flowing again, if you have that common keto condition.
More Keto Snacks That Costco Sells
Chia Seeds for Salads
These delicious and nutritious seeds are perfect for any salad and are loaded in the right keto combinations.
They are yet another one of the keto foods Costco sells.
Looking at the nutritional value of the chia seeds, you can see they are loaded in dietary fiber, rendering these to a mere 3 “net carbs” for 3 tablespoons. That’s well within the “net 20” you must aim for on the keto diet.
Costco Hemp Seeds For Keto
New on the scene are the nutritionally keto complete hemp seeds. These tasty seeds complement salads and are rich in Omega oils and protein.  Adding these hemp seeds to your diet is a perfect complement to your keto diet.
With the standard hemp seed serving of 3 tablespoons, you get 15g of fats, 10g of protein, and zero net carbs (1g carbs minus 1g fiber). Not very often will you find a purely zero net carb food you can use for keto.
If your metabolic type says you are good for keto, you’ll love this seed.
